The Dimplex Lincoln Bronze Feestanding Electric Stove is really nice. It shipped on time, no assembly required, no problems. Just plugged it in and turned it on. I love the bronze color. It does produce a warm heat for a small room, as advertised. Ours is outside on an enclosed porch. We are in Florida and on a cool night (50 degrees) it helps get the chill out of the air. I especially like the sturdiness and the realistic flames. The door opens and it looks real but is cool to the touch ... good for our granddaughter. Also, a plus, is you can choose heat or no heat with the flame. We got it on sale for $150 and the shipping was an additional $65. Still, it is hundreds less than at our local hardware store ...$400+. We have no complaints. As a matter of fact, I was looking to buy another one because my mother and father fell in love with it over the holidays, but it is now over $220 on amazon ... plus shipping. So, I am shopping around or waiting for this to go on sale again. Only one suggestion ... measure your area and look at the size of this. It is not big. I was hoping for a larger unit and just didn't take time to look carefully at the dimensions.

I purchased this firplace for my bedroom. Love the bronze finish, beautiful little fireplace ! Purchased the Dimplex Celeste cream colored stove for my living room. Both are quality made stoves. About a 30 dollar difference in my electric bill. You cant go wrong with Dimplex. Amazon had the best prices !!

Honest reviews on Dimplex North America DS5629BR Traditional Electric Stove, Bronze

We bought this stove for supplemental heat in our sun room. It is a nice looking stove, and it worked fine for about 2 weeks. Then it stopped generating heat. The owners manual states that if the unit overheats, it will shut down, and to reset the stove by turning it off for 5 minutes and turn it back on. If the problem persists, call Dimplex Customer Service. I don't see how it could have overheated, but I tried that and it didn't work.

The problem is Customer Service is only open 8:00 to 4:30 EST, Monday thru Friday, and when you call you get put on hold for the "next available technical service representative". I was on hold for over an hour twice and never got closer than caller number 11. The number went down by one about every 10 minutes. So either no one is answering the phone and the number went down as others in front of me gave up, or they are woefully understaffed.

I understand that problems happen. That's okay if the company stands behind their product and makes it right. It's obvious that customer service is not a priority at Dimplex. If that's important to you, I would not recommend buying any Dimplex product.

Just received my new Dimplex yesterday. Got it unboxed and set up by myself. It is terrific. Heated up my living room in a matter of minutes, my dog even loves it she laid down right in front of it. I would definitely recommend this stove to anyone. Thumbs up on this one. Thank you

Hopefully this video captures the charm of the artificial fire. I love it! It's safer than a real fire and much cleaner. Flip a switch and it's on, flip a switch and it's off. The switches and temperature dial are located behind the door, below the faux fire. When the blower is on the warm air comes from the base between the front legs. No assembly was necessary. Only the door and embers are plastic, the unit is metal. It's sturdy but light enough to carry to different locations.

Ordered this little stove and was pleasantly surprised! Love the happy red color, and it's a great space heater as well as artificial fireplace. Double switch allows you to use only heat, only fire, or both. We've enjoyed using it as an extra heater over the winter.

This electric stove does warm my 12 x 12 bedroom adequately as a backup, but not nearly as quickly as my old Lasko ceramic heater, which was just too ugly to bear. The thermostat is a dial, located behind the door, near the floor. This keeps it out of sight, but a little difficult to reach. There are no numbers on this dial so one must set it by turning it until it goes on and maintains the temperature you're comfortable with. The on and off switches are also located in the same place. The flame can be turned on without heat, but must be on for heat to work. I took a paper and cut a template and tried to determine the temperature by placing my old Lasko with the digital thermostat next to it. That helped somewhat. Then I marked the template with what I was comfortable with at different settings one for overnight. So the thermostat was a disappointment. The flames are pleasant, but the Vernon I bought is more realistic (though it did not have functions as advertised). The heater is very sturdy, and attractive. I like the bright red. I replaced the two bulbs (candelabra 40 watt) with 15 watts so I wouldn't feel guilty about burning electrictiy. Generally, lookswise, this heater is perfect for my Victorian style decor and I won't mind leaving it in the room year round and enjoying the fireplace any time. It will also make a cute table top to set my fan on in the summer.

Honest reviews on Duraflame Red Electric Stove - 4600 BTU, 1350 Watts, Model#

I have had other electric fireplaces in my small room that have been wall mounted and very pricey. for the size of this one, the price, the aesthetic character, and the portability, this electric stove is fabulous! it gives very realistic flames, stays cool, and puts out an amazing amount of warmth when the heater is on. the only thing I wish is that this electric fireplace stove had been available 4 years ago! Excellent item, Duraflame!!

I am absolutely delighted with this little red stove! Everything about this purchase has turned out to be even better than ever expected: stove is a sturdy metal of caboose red. WORKS VERY QUIETLY AND EFFICIENTLY. I have a 400 sq ft park model home. I wanted this little stove to be used in the living/dining/and kitchen area, which is about 60% of my home's space. The first morning after I got the stove, we had a cold front (well, in Texas, it was about 45 degrees with cold winds). I bought this heater to use rather than turn on the central electric heat, as I'm usually in the main living area during the day and I saw no need to heat the entire trailer. I turned it on, both the flames and the heater, and turned the thermostat dial. The blower is quiet and I thought the heater wasn't working, but within 15 minutes -with the thermostat turning the heater on and off automatically -the area was already fairly comfortable. I have wood floors and set the unit's plastic legs (housing is sturdy metal with, I believe, a plexiglass or even glass window on the door) directly on the wood and was pleased to confirm that the heat from the blower is aimed outward, not downward, an the floor and housing of the heater remained cool enough to touch -housing in places was warm but not hot. The quality of the stove's design and workmanship is way way beyond what I'd expect for the price of $69.99 + shipping I paid. Shipping was fast and the stove was well packed to avoid damage during shipping. GO AHEAD, BUY IT!!! I think you'll be as delighted as I am.

I considered giving this a 1 star but since it does turn on I gave it a 2 star. This unit has an automatic shut-off if it gets too hot. The problem is that if you turn this thing on it overheats in a few minutes and shuts off. The manual says wait 10 minutes and try it again.. Guess what it over heats again and shuts off.. I'm not even turning this thing on high. 1/2 way on the dial gets this unit to overheat and shut-off in a few minutes.. This heater is basically unuseable. A few minutes of heat is not enough heat to do anything.. I would send this back but the hassle of returning it is more than the money I spent on this.. My recommendation is don't buy this... I have a little 800 watt heater that puts out less btu's but at least it runs for as long as I have it turned on...

New EdenPURE Infrared Heater US1000 Reviews

I have a medium open living/dining area with high ceilings. I, like most wanted something to help with the heating costs. This machine worked well during the day when I had it running on high with the fireplace going and would warm the room to 70-71 degrees. At night, I put the central gas heat on 64, turned off the fireplace and left the Edenpure running on high. When I woke up, the room was 64, just as I had set the thermostat on the central heat. So needless to say, it did not work at all as the main heat was kicking on. I also do not like the fact that there is no digital thermostat but just several lines to indicate the level of heat and there is no timer. I actually have ordered another similar unit from Home Depot that has both of these features, has two more additional heating elements and is supposed to heat up a 1500 sq foot room and only cost $259 with free shipping. And of course the added bonus of being able to return it directly to the local store if I do not like it. This Edenpure I purchased is rated to heat 1000 sq feet. So, I personally cannot recommend this product.

Consumer Reports, February 10, 2010:

Heating Claims Don't Add Up

Manufacturers of electric space heaters want you to believe that using one of their devices will lower your heating bill. Lowering your home's thermostat(s) and using your main heating system less in tandem with a space heater--called zone heating--will cut your utility bill. (Every degree you lower the thermostat(s) can save you about 2 percent on your heating bill.) But keep in mind that based on current national average prices and adjusting for the energy losses due to burning a fuel, heating with electricity is about two and a half times more expensive than heating with gas, the most common heating fuel in this country.

EdenPure suggests that "you can turn the heat down in your house as low as 50°F, yet the room you are in will be warm and comfortable. When you move to another room, the EdenPure goes with you. Its wheels make relocation a snap." That scenario assumes that you have to heat only a single room to heat at a time or that you own multiple EdenPure space heaters; that once you're in a room you stay put and don't move around the house; and that you're willing to keep the rest of your home at a chilly 50°F. Lowering the thermostat(s) by 3°F would likely result in minimal discomfort for you and your family, but are you willing to keep your home at 50°F?

...Its design essentially negates the radiant-heating effect, so it operates more like a typical fan-forced convection heater. While a fan can help mix the room air, there is typically some temperature variation, with cooler air near the floor and warmer air near the ceiling.

Humidity Information Seems All Wet

EdenPure says its heaters "protects the humidity level and air quality important to breathing comfort and personal health," and also notes that "Heat from the copper tubing rides the humidity in the room and provides moist, soft heat--ceiling-to-floor, wall-to-wall--without reducing oxygen or humidity."

Simply put, when you heat a room with any space heater and don't also have an additional source of humidity, say a humidifier, the total moisture in the air in that space will stays the same but the relative humidity will go down, not up. That's true for every space heater we've tested...

We needed a heater for our fifth wheel and I prefer products made in the USA (especially electric products), so after reviewing many heaters decided on the Edenpure. It really does the job! Saved quite a bit on propane and heats the whole 5th wheel. Plus it's a lot quieter than our furnace. We've been extremely pleased.

Honest reviews on New EdenPURE Infrared Heater US1000

Years ago,I purchased two Edenpure, very efficient and safe, model Gen 3 heaters. One of the heaters was a refurbished model. Both heaters worked great, until the refurbished heater stopped producing heat. I called the company, being that a refurbished hearter did not carry a regular warranty, I could not get help..not even a timely answer from the on line trouble shooting expert. It was the Christmas vacation week for my grandchildren who were coming to stay with me in upstate NY., and without two heaters, my home is really cold. After a long wait for the online company representative to get back to me, only for him to write back stating that he lost my e-mail and what was my heater problem. I wrote him back, but again never recieved answered, and with the nearest repair shop for these heaters hundreds of miles away from my home, I went to BJ's store to see what brands of heaters they had available. To my surprise BJ's had 1 Edenpure US1000, which I purchased. Edenpure has made some changes;the US1000 heater uses three bulbs instead of the 5 bulbs as in the original heaters and I believe runs a bit cooler, not giving the wide spectrum of heat output as the older models did. The Edenpure is a safe and attractive looking heater, and I feel very comfortable when my grndchildren are at my home, knowing that they will not be harmed by any heating elements.

I bought 2! The heater works very well. We run it in the room where our TV and thermostat are located. It raises the temperature to around 72 degrees, which keeps the heat from coming on. As long as we stay in that room, it's nice. The rest of the 1st floor of the house gets very cold unless we run the second heater in another room. These are idea for trailers or small homes. If you have a bigger house you may want to buy a couple of them but, would you really be saving any money then???.

I bought the Frabosk 8 3/4" and the 5 5/8" plate for use with my Electrolux Induction Range.

Pro's: They're very nice looking and very well made

Con's: Although they work, they don't work well. The heat transfer is v...e...r...y sloooooow! I could not get the toast for a grilled cheese to brown. I could boil water slowly. And the handles go through and are unusable while heating which kind of makes the handles useless.

My Frabosk plate worked OK for a while, but after a few month it started to do some crack-like noises.

Then it lost its flatness, and assumed a curbed shape.

Finally its three metal layers started to come visibly apart.

In the long run, you may spend less and have far better results, buying a few induction pots and pans at IKEA.

This plate works well but you will need to adjust your temp. to make sure you have it right, it cuts down the temp just a bit.

Pro's able to use non-induction style cookware with ease

Con's, inability to lift off induction cook-top, handle doesn't sit flat...stays hot for a long period of time.

All in all a great product if you need to adapt older cookware that isn't compatible with new cook surfaces

I am relatively new to the tea scene (my wife and I started drinking Teavana teas about a year ago) and as such I have been searching for a really good kettle. I wanted an electric kettle because of their ease of use as well as the extra features some of the nicer kettles offer. After an exhaustive search I decided upon the Breville SK500XL Ikon Stainless-Steel Electric Kettle based in no small part to the excellent reviews it has received on Amazon and other sites.

I went to a few stores to examine it in person and compare it to about ten other electric kettles that the different stores carried but nothing seemed to come close to the design and quality of the Breville. So after finally making my decision, it was simply a matter of time before I made my purchase. I am very glad I waited as within 2 weeks this new Breville kettle was released. While still substantially costlier than the SK500XL, the BKE820XL has a number of features and design improvements that made the extra cost more than worth it. These include:

Multiple temperature settings (different teas require different temperature water for an optimally brew) with 20 minute hold

Improved water level indicators now on both sides (the single water level indicator on the SK500XL is behind the handle which makes it hard to read)

I've only had my BKE820XL a few days (I purchased it from a local store) so I cannot speak to its long term reliability yet, if it is anything like the SK500XL, I don't expect to have any problems.

Oh yeah, and the tea I've made in the last few days is easily the best I've ever brewed! Yay!

UPDATE 1/2/2009: I've had the BKE820XL for over a month now and I still love it! The only thing I've found that I would critique is:

After you are done boiling water for the day, you need to either dry out the lid by hand or leave the lid open for a few hours to let the water evaporate (from the lid where it collects). I am concerned that not doing this might lead to issues down the road.

Even with that, I am still overjoyed with my purchase (which I use at least 5 times a week) and highly recommend it to anyone in search of a quality electric kettle.

UPDATE 3/12/2009 Nothing much to report except that my wife and I are continuing to use our kettle mutliple times a week and are extremely happy with it. It has a permanent place on our counter! :)

UPDATE 09/26/2010 Just wanted to pop on and provide a quick update. We have had this kettle almost 2 years now and have yet to have any issues with it (fingers crossed). We have used it at least once a week (if not a lot more) pretty much without fail and are still very happy with it. At this point if something were to go wrong with it, we wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one. Highly recommended. :)

UPDATE 09/30/2010 A commenter chastised me a bit for not mentioning the BPA controversy in my review. As I mentioned in my reply to her, I would caution everyone to be sure to read the actual scientific papers or publications that are as unbiased as possible. I find a great source for all things scientific to be Arstechnica.com. They have a great way of breaking down complex topics in ways that non-scientific types (like myself) can really understand and absorb (see this BPA article as an example: ).

If you don't want to wait for a conclusive link between BPA and health issues (of which there has not been one to date that I am aware of), I can completely understand and sympathize. If I had an infant I would definitely be doing all I could to minimize their BPA intake. Still, with that said I would ask that anyone concerned by this or other health issues please try to represent the facts in your arguments and not the hype; this allows others to make their own, informed decisions as well.

UPDATE 09/04/2011 We've had our Breville almost three years now and have yet to have any problems with it. Most of the negative reviews seem to be in regard to the potential BPA issue which I've already posted my opinion on (both above & in the comments to this review) however a few have mentioned actual mechanical issues. Perhaps they use theirs more than we do (we use ours at most once per day but probably more realistically about 3 to 4 times a week on average) or maybe they just received a lemon (or perhaps ours is the exception, I couldn't really tell you). I have noticed recently that the lid sometimes stays shut while the water is still hot; I don't know if it has always done this and I never noticed before or if it has recently started to do this, either way I look at it as a design element (to help keep me from spilling hot water on myself) but perhaps it is a design flaw? Regardless all I do is tap on the lid once or twice while pushing the button and it opens right up. Other than that it works just as well as the day we bought it (I still don't have a decent thermometer so I couldn't tell you how accurate it was new or used but the water still seems as hot...for whatever that is worth).

UPDATE 04/09/2012 Well I am sad to report that, after almost 4 years of service, our Breville appears to be on its last legs. Over the last few months we've started to notice some faulty behavior that I suspect is indicative of our unit's impending death. Here are the issues that have started to plague our kettle:

Kettle does not shut off at the proper temperature: this is happening more and more we mostly use our kettle for coffee these days and I use the second highest setting (195 degrees) for our Chemex. The issue is the kettle doesn't always shut off at 195 degrees but will go to a full boil instead. I do not know if it would eventually shut itself off or if this is a true safety issue as I've always notice the issue right away. This is not a huge issue (provided the safety shutoff is still working, which is unknown) as much as an inconvience but it does not bode well for the kettle's future.

For the first time this morning, the Breville shutoff prematurely. I turned the kettle on, set my temperature and the temperature hold and walked away. When I returned (less than 5 minutes later), the kettle had shut off and the water was nowhere close to the 195 degree that it was set to. I was unable to get the kettle to heat up the water to the 195 degree setting as it would (by the sound of it) start to heat up but then before the water was hot enough, it would shut off. The water never got to the correct temperature and the kettle never shut off. It seemed stuck in a repeating cycle. I eventually set the kettle to its highest setting (205 degrees) and the kettle started working again.

To me these issues seem to indicate that the kettle is having issues with its electronics and not with the actual heating unit itself (but obviously this is purely speculation on my part based on my anecdotal evidence). Being that this is the only "high end" kettle we've owned, I don't know if 3+ years is a normal or acceptable lifespan for a tool such as this. I know it only comes with a 1 year warranty but for the price, I had hoped it would last at least 5 to 10 years but perhaps that is unrealistic? Being that my wife and I are mostly coffee drinkers these days, we probably will replace this kettle with gooseneck spout type kettle (like this Bonavita: Bonavita 1.0L Electric Kettle BV3825B) instead of another Breville. Overall I'm still a fan of our kettle and will be sad to see it go.

I believe my original score of 5 stars still stands though I'd change it to a 4.5 if Amazon allowed 1/2 stars.

First, this kettle is gorgeous! I bought it for it's beauty and easy to use variable temperature and the fact it had a viewing window to easily see how much water was inside. Before I used it, I emailed Breville to find out what type of plastic the viewing window was made from. The response I received was a defensive email about how polycarbonate and BPA are safe for food contact and this kettle is safe. I've been reading the research on BPA and polycarbonate for years, so they didn't share anything new with me. I would have preferred their response to simply state "polycarbonate" and then offer to provide me with more information if I had any concerns.

Regardless, they weren't going to change my mind. I don't feel comfortable with polycarbonate around my boiling (or close to boiling) water and in this day and age where BPA is a huge uproar, I am super surprised that Breville came out with a brand new kettle containing polycarbonate. I would have loved to see this kettle have a glass viewing window and lid, that would have been super! Especially with the price point they are selling this at. Having it be a "toxin free" kettle with no plastic would have been a great marketing move.

I did reply and thank them for the information and politely told them I would be returning it due to the polycarbonate, but that if they came out with a version that had glass instead of polycarbonate, I'd snap it up in a second. I received no further reply from Breville.

Best Deals on Breville BKE820XL Variable-Temperature 1.8-Liter Kettle

I drink various types of teas constantly to my dentist's consternation, such as Irish and East Frisian in the morning with Pu Erh Tuo Cha and Green Jasmine in the evening. On the weekends I drink French Pressed coffee.

I did it the old fashioned way with a thermometer. Needless to say, but I will anyway, this kettle did make life simpler, but, (always a but) it has not functioned as advertised.

The primary issue is on the boiling setting for black teas. Sometimes it shuts off, and sometimes it doesn't. The other presets have worked flawlessly, and this may only be an anomaly with this particular pot.

I will say that I am going to order a second one, and send this one back to Breville for repairs. That should tell you how much I like the idea of this kettle.

Honest reviews on Breville BKE820XL Variable-Temperature 1.8-Liter Kettle

Despite the 1-star review, which I will get to in a moment, this Breville kettle gets 5 stars for performance and aesthetics, both of which are addressed in detail by others in their reviews, so I will not repeat. It gets 4 stars for durability I have had the kettle for about 2 years and it still works great, however less than a year in, the inside bottom developed several dozen small white spots. I have tried more than once to remove these with baking soda but they persist (I never boil anything other than Brita-filtered water).

Now, why the 1 star? As some others have commented, Breville kettle uses plastic material for the water-level windows on both sides of the kettle not BPA free. Even plastics that have no BPA still leach chemicals into water at boiling temperatures, so the use of plastic instead of glass in a kettle is truly not acceptable any more.

Here are some numbers, to support this potentially serious issue. I recently purchased ZeroWater Water Tester ZeroWater ZT-2 Electronic Water Tester, which measures the amount of dissolved particles in water (with very consistent and accurate results; highly recommended, may change your water drinking habits). We are fortunate to have relatively clean municipal water, its reading came in at 47 TDS (typical range in the U.S. is 51-200), which Brita pitcher gets down to 35 TDS. After boiling Brita-filtered water in this Breville kettle, the TDS reading went UP from 35 to 90 TDS! The same Brita-filtered water boiled on the stove in a non-stick pot went up from 35 to 43 (after boiling for 3 minutes). In a steel pot, the particles' reading went up from 35 to 47. The particles concentration goes up, in large part, due to evaporation of some of the water by steam, thus leaving a higher concentration of heavier (non-evaporating) particles in the pot.

I repeated the test a few days later. The absolute readings were +/3 from the above results, but the conclusion was still very much the same using Breville kettle to boil water adds chemical particles to your drinking water. You have to decide for yourself are the satisfying performance and stylish looks of this kettle worth adding significant unnecessary and potentially harmful plastic particles into your body.

UPDATE 11/15/12:

After about a year, 2 performance issues developed:

1. The auto-shutoff stopped working it actually got delayed, rather than completely not functioning the water would boil and boil, for 5-10 minutes, before the kettle would finally shut itself off.

2. Kettle started leaking at the bottom of the handle. Not a few drops type of leaking, but a little stream.

I'm looking for a replacement now.

I got this kettle to brew the perfect cup of coffee and I loved it for the first 6 months. Then things started going south. The kettle intermittently does not shutoff when it reaches the proper temp of 200F. Instead it continues to heat to a boil and will boil itself dry unless turned off. Now the audible alarm has stopped working. I can't trust the thermostat and the kettle shouldn't be left unattended the 2 main reasons for purchasing it!

I feel that for what this kettle costs it should have lasted a lot longer. If I had written this review when I first got this kettle I would have given it 5 stars, but experiencing such failure in so short a period of time I can only give it 1 star. I wonder how many of the 5 star reviews were posted right out of the box.

I really got spoiled when this kettle as working properly. I'm on a quest now to find a reliable replacement.

This fireplace is worth the price and effor it took to assemble. The assembly was not difficult, there are just quite a few piece to put together (for the mantle). This is one of the thinnest fireplace on the market. I love mine.

The item was smaller than it appeared (yes I read the measurements). It's all press board. About 10% of the holes were not totally complete or slightly off center. The door panels have clear plastic not glass. The fire looks far less realistic than hoped. The fan is a bit noisy. Basically it is worth about $125 at best (being generous). I would not recommend this product.

I've owned one of these for about a year. The big selling point is of course the cooling feature, since warming a bed with an electric blanket would be far cheaper. If it lasts for a couple of years, it will probably pay for itself since air conditioning is far less effective than having cool water circulating below you. For that reason, this may be considered a "green" product, since it takes more energy to cool a houseful of air than to cool the two cups of water running through this.

Pros: Energy savings, two sides of the bed can be different temperatures, built-in timer can turn it off before you freeze at 3 am, more comfortable than an electric fan, remote control.

So-so: It's about as loud as a box fan at medium speed. I actually like falling asleep to such a sound, others may not. Maybe keeping it under the bed would muffle it some.

Cons: Pretty darned expensive.

I actually found out about this product from one of the social news sites, it might have been digg. I was a bit scared to buy it since there were few reviews, but I took the plunge and it has been a great purchase. A cool bed in the summer is something I've missed since giving up my old waterbed 20 years ago.

What I don't understand is why this isn't a top-seller... it's such a simple concept.

Pros: Warms quickly and well, fits on the bed nicely, easy to clean

Cons: Clicks all night long, display is really bright in the room, does not cool adequately, remotes drain batteries quickly, does not easily fit under bed, poor customer service

My husband purchased the Chilipad for me 6 months ago. For medical reasons, my husband needs a humidifier in the bedroom which makes me very warm. We thought a cooling mat would be perfect and allow us to sleep comfortably in the same room. Upon unpacking it, we noticed that the display on one of the units had a black spot on it that made the display difficult to read. We went ahead and set up the unit to see how effective the pad is. We could easily feel it quickly warm up, but the cooling was less noticable. I thought that maybe once I was under covers and sleeping it would be more noticable. It wasn't. I had the temp set to 68 all night and was still warm. It was the same night after night. On top of that, my remote would go through a set of batteries every week even though I rarely changed the temperature. I used it mainly to turn the unit on and off. Add that to the fact that the unit does not slide easily out from under the bed, and I couldn't see what temp the unit was set to anyway because of the big, black spot on the display, and it became worthless.

At the time, the website for Chili Technology said that there was a 90 satisfaction guarantee, but did not say that you had to purchase from their website for it to be applicable. Since the Brookstone price was slightly cheaper, we purchased from them. After we decided the product did not satify our needs, we were told that the guarantee only applied if we purchased from the Chili Technology website something that is NOW advertised on there.

We were then promised that the company would call us back in 3 months and offer an exchange for the newer units which cool down to 46 degrees. It's been 6 months, the unit is advertised on their website and still no call.

The pad had been on our bed unused all summer, but now that it's cooling down outside, my husband wanted to use the warming feature. His remote drained the batteries in a week as well. So once again it will sit unused. Only because my heart can't take the idea of throwing away a $1000 piece of junk.

If you want heat, buy an electric mattress pad. It's cheaper, doesn't click all night long, doesn't need to be refilled with water, and doesn't need new batteries in the remote every week.

UPDATE: Still no call a year after purchase from customer service. I was using this with the sleep timer to warm my bed over the winter. I went to turn it on last night and my unit will not work. The power light is on, but pressing buttons on the unit or using a remote with fresh batteries does nothing. If I could move this to a one star review I would. It is now a completely worthless device.

While, I have LOVED the product, I must also warn you that their customer service seems really nice and helpful and like they are going to cover your problems, until you actually go to make a claim, then it is a different story. $90 per unit to take a look at it. I reported that the screen light was flickering and I was assured that the note was made and they would "take care of it" NOW, I am told that the person that made those promises has left the company and they have NEW POLICIES. I am very angry that they are not honoring a promise that I have in writing, just because their employee is no longer there. That seems like poor business to me. I have 2 of their chilipads.

6 months later, I still have gotten NO customer service with the problem. That is really silly since they have such a great product. I am disappointed in what otherwise would be a stellar experience.

THIS IS WHAT I WROTE 3 YEARS AGO--I just purchased the Chilipad so these are initial reactions. I read all the reviews and found them mixed. Either loved or hated and a waste of money. I called the company directly and the customer service rep assured me that they honor the 90 day money back guarantee. So I ordered. It took over three weeks to get, but I think it was worth it. The first night I found it loud, bright and did not fit under the bed. It made the room HOT. It is the first time I had ever gotten up in the night and found a HUGE difference in temp between the bedroom and the hall. I would say at least 6-8 degrees. So the pumps throw off a lot of heat. Deciding that between that and the brightness of the panel lighting up the room to much, we had to alter the application. Our bed is on a wall that has a closet to the dressing room on the other side. We drilled two holes (KING has dual pumps) through the wall and placed the pump on the other side of the wall in this closet. The tubes were long enough to comfortably reach the pumps. WALLA, the problems solved. The remotes work through the wall, no more heating up the bedroom, no bright lights, and no noise. I found that my side cools so well that I can't set it on the lowest number 46 degrees. We had adjusted the thermostat in the house to 76 degrees (our daytime temperature) when we usually had to lower it at night to 70-72 to be comfortable. I was SHOCKED when I woke up too cold, when I had full covers on. I HAVE BEEN SO HOT THE LAST FEW YEARS I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW HAPPY I AM TO HAVE A COOL BED. I LOVE A COOL BED. Previously, I was waking up trying to find a cool spot. Not an easy task when you have a partner in the bed. I am happy we were creative enough to solve the problems and now have the perfect solution to being cool in the night. Also, warm without an electric blanket in the winter will be a plus for my husband. (I'm not cold in the winter) I don't like the idea of the electric fields in an electric blanket around me either. THANK YOU CHILIPAD FOR THE BEST SOLUTION TO A HOT BED. I am your biggest fan so far. The three year warranty gives me peace of mind. We spent $600, so $200 a year to be cool at night is a real bargain. If it lasts longer, even better. Give it a try, confirm the 90 day warranty and buy directly from the company. I think they will honor their return policy if you don't like it.

UP DATE

Nothing but cool nights and great sleep for me baby.....since I made the modifications, I can't tell you how much i love it. It works beautifully. I had to turn it up to about 62 because I was actually too cold in a room that is 76 degrees. UNHEARD OF!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Now, if it gives me 5 wonderful years, I will be extraordinarily satisfied with my purchase.

Honest reviews on ChiliPad Bed Temperature Control System

I bought this to put on top of my tempurpedic mattress. The foam mattress gets very hot even during the winter! Instead of turning on the AC, this pad helps cool the mattress enough to get a great night sleep. The remote is very basic but works well.

Pros Keeps you cool (or warm if you turn temp up)/ Not much maintenance required / Low energy use (compared to AC)

Cons Noise (sounds like small fan but does not bother me) / Bright light under bed (can probably cover with electrical tape but I have not done so)

I am rating this product as 4 stars because it really has helped me enjoy my tempurpedic bed to the max. I love the bed but was going to return it due to the heat it generated. With the chilipad, the combo is perfect, allowing me to enjoy the comfortable foam mattress without the heat issue. I would have rated it 5 stars but I did have some trouble with defective units. I went through 2 or 3 replacement units (not the pad but the motor that runs the water). The Company's rep was extremely nice and accommodating and paid for all costs related to the replacements. While it was a hassle to replace units, the service was great from the Company and thus overall I rate this 4 stars. The unit itself I would rate 5 stars!

I've had this product since Nov. '09 and like to share some thoughts about it. I am an owner of the Single zone Queen version of the chilipad. The technology that I think the chilipad uses for cooling is thermoelectric cooling. It is useful in that it doesn't require refrigerants and is quiet but the downside is that it doesn't cool as fast as a system that uses refrigerants. The cooling is also limited by the surrounding ambient temperature because the cooling temperature can only drop so much based on the surrounding temperature.

The following is based on my observation. My home setup for the chilipad is that the room temperature is at a constant 78F degrees and the floor is hardwood. The chilipad's cooling pad sits between my mattress and the bed sheet with my lite (summer) down comforter on top. The position of the chilipad machine is next to my bed about a foot away from the bed with good clearance from all sides. Based on that setup, once I turned on the chilipad, the temperature displayed on the chilipad starts off at 87F and rapidly drops down to about 71 degrees in about 15 mins. The temperature reading displayed I believe is based the water temperature inside the chilipad device and NOT the bed temperature underneath the comforter. Once the temperature drop to about 68F, the speed of the drop in temperature reduces. At 1 hour, the display shows 61F and has hold steady at 60F after 1.5 hours. From room temperature, it's safe to say that the chilipad would cool down to about 18F from room temperature. The claim that it can cool down to 48F probably would be possible if the room temperature was 66F or colder. Personally, I am comfortable setting the temperature at 65F so it works for me.

The display back lighting is bright when it is on but it would be nice if they gave an option of turn it off or for the display light to turn off after 30 seconds. Since the system is expelling the warm air into to the room, it would increase the room temperature but not to uncomfortable level. I would leave the bedroom door open to help ventilate if it was a problem.

The chilipad did break once so I emailed the company and had a new replacement sent to me and returned the broken one to the company with no problems. Response time was fast. My opinion of their customer service so far is great.

I did extensive research before purchasing my portable air conditioner. Thanks to some reviewers I learned that having a dual hose is key, as a double and contrary pressure inside one hose could create problems in the future (the AC pulls air from outside and releases air from the room, it's a double process get a dual hose). So I searched for a dual hose as a pre-requisite and the only one I found on Amazon was this 13,000 btu Soleus. Even though the room I needed it for was a relatively small bedroom, I went for this item. And I'm so happy I did!

The machine is really big, really huge, and extremely heavy. But pretty good looking, with a great design. Packaging was large and bulk, and it traveled a long way to where I am. The side panels were a bit damaged from shipping and handling and I hoped it wouldn't be a problem, so far not a problem.

There is nothing portable about it. Besides its heavy weight, once you install the window kit, the last thing you want is to keep moving it around and compromise a good installation.

I did not receive one of the accessories, the sliding panel, and the instructional dvd and manual showed that this was necessary for installing the AC on my window, but we figured it out in the end with what we had. My window is a horizontal sliding window. I adapted two of the panels I had (one with two exhaust hose openings and one with no openings) to one end of the window, mending the two to cover the entire vertical length. Attaching the exhaust hoses was really easy, all I had to do was make sure that the window kit was well screwed in my window, to hold, and then stretch the hoses and attach them to the AC unit.

When I plugged it in and turned it on it sounded like I had a plane's engine right inside my room. It was so loud! Later I grew used to it and now it doesn't bother me anymore, in fact, it helps, because it simply eliminates any other noises you might have from outside.

The first night after about three hours the AC mode simply shut off and it went into fan mode. A red light was on, indicating that the condensate holding tank was full. I couldn't believe this, since it had been on for only three hours! So I fit a small tray from my toaster oven under the drain plug and discarded all the water that came out of it.

The second night, we figured we should just leave the drain plug open and the toaster oven tray under it. We woke up to a flooded room, as the tray is barely enough to hold so much water.

Since the drain plug is so near the floor, the only solution was to put the AC on top of a low coffee table, which in fact, shortened the length of the exhaust hoses, optimizing the overall cooling capacity, as one of the hoses gets pretty warm and the longer the hose, the harder the AC will have to work to cool the air around it.

Now we have it all set. Our AC sits on top of a coffee table, with a bucket behind it and the tiny hose that came with it attached to the drain plug. The drain plug is always open, and the water that comes out of the unit simply fills the bucket to about 1/3, it is so much water! But the AC mode never shuts off anymore, and you get some healthy humidifying from having a bucket full of water in the bedroom and the hoses are less stretched, ensuring better cooling.

So far, so good! The AC does an excellent job of cooling the room and I absolutely love it!

I purchased this unit in July 2008 and I have had nothing but problems with it. The Soleus support line is always busy, and when you do get someone, they look for an answer and never call back. My front panel to control the unit does not work, and I have tried to get Soleus to replace the panel, with no luck. I have to use the remote control to use the A/C. Around 2 years of service, and the unit started leaking water. It appears the drain line for the unit is not placed far enough back, and so the water pan just drips out of the unit, right onto the floor. You can pay to have the unit shipped back and repaired they said, but the minimum charge is $150 plus shipping charges. Don't waste your money!

This thing does not evaporate well, still have to empty the tray every other day. But it does not flood your floor it shuts off when full.

As for heating this unit is completely useless. A $50 ceramic unit will heat better than this heat pump.

Don't bother buying if your temp outside goes below 40 this unit will not heat to keep even 65. (This was heating a room around 250 sq ft)

Overpriced air conditioner.

Honest reviews on Soleus Air PH4-13R-01 13,000 BTU Evaporative Portable Air

I actually purchased Soleus Air PH4-13R-01 13,000 BTU Evaporative Portable Air Conditioner, 13,000 BTU Heater, Dehumidifier and Fan locally as the ones sold on Amazon are getting poor reviews, but mine shoots out 61°F cold air 24/7 and never leaks or needs to be drained although we are having the most humid summer I can ever remember. A favorite 2012 purchase which I would have purchased on Amazon were it not for all the bad reviews there.

UPDATE OCT 21, 2012 This A/C ran 24/7 up until about a week ago when it finally cooled off and never once did it leak or need to be drained. I am extremely happy with my Soleus Air PH4-13R-01!

UPDATE JUNE 30, 2013 It was very humid here and I ran this 24hours straight more for the humidity than for the heat at 61°F and it did not leak once. I have it set up to exhaust to the outside and intake inside air as my home is loose. Also I like having it set up next to the entry way window as that way I can use floor fans to direct the air up to 30feet into the room(s) I want. This weighs 80lbs so you really don't want to be moving it all the time. I am very thrilled with this portable A/C, dehumidifier, heater, and fan. I have used it as a heater during the winter too and that was great.

The heat pump for our house is probably a bit too old and under-sized for our house. For the last seven years or so I have placed a very small window AC unit in our (2nd story) master bedroom to help cool the house in the summer. Thinking that the window unit was making the house look a bit trashy we decided to replace it with this unit.

Overall, we are quite pleased with the unit, but it takes up quite a bit of space in the bedroom. Sometimes I think the window unit was easier in that sense certainly cheaper / took less indoor space.

A word about capacity the previous unit was only 8000 BTU this unit claims to be larger in capacity and it may very well be but it certainly seems to take a bit longer to cool the room / upper floor of the house. (this seems typical of this type read up online) BUT it isn't nearly as noisy as the old unit was. There is a small rattle that is solved by placing a small pillow on the left side of the unit annoying, but workable.

The remote is probably a cool feature, but we simply set to temp and move on. We never touch it. I'm curious how the heater will work in the winter.

Relatively easy to install took about an hour the unit is quite heavy over 100 lbs easily takes some effort to move.

Don't turn on for 24 hours after you've moved the unit especially if turned on it's side. I let the unit sit in our bedroom for a few days as we had to set it at an angle to transport.

CONS this unit is expensive, takes up a lot of room INSIDE of the house, might take a bit longer to cool than a window unit.

PROS easy to install, remote nice feature, works pretty well.

I have waited more than 3 months to review this tea kettle because I have bought so many in the past and written a rave review after just a couple weeks, only to have it break on me shortly thereafter. In fact, I'm still a bit afraid that if I write this review I will jinx my good luck with this tea kettle.

I bought the Krups kettle because of it's name, because I've heard that Krups products are good quality. It was a bit more expensive than other tea kettles out there, but after having bought 3 cheap ones in the past couple years that have broken down on me, I decided it was worth it to spend a bit more.

The design of the Krups kettle is pretty slick and it works very well. I've had problems in the past with the pop-up lid breaking, but this one has a nice smooth design that seems impossible to break. You can see the water levels through the semi-transparent blue and it has a nice swivel base. The water boils quickly, just as one would hope.

The only negative about this tea kettle is that you can only lift it by the handle after it has boiled because the metal part gets very hot. It took some getting used to for me because in the past, with my plastic kettles, I would sometimes pick it up with two hands, one on the handle and one on the kettle itself, so the first few times I used this one I burned myself. However, by now I've gotten used to it and don't think about it at all.

There was a "new kettle taste" in the water that lasted a bit longer than with other kettles, but of course after more than 3 months it is totally gone.

I hope this kettle will last me a long time! I'm very pleased with it and would recommend it.

Have been using this kettle for about six weeks now and we are very pleased with it. The appearance is nicely finished and the blue light effect when heating is appealing. It has enough capacity to fill a 10 cup teapot and pours nicely without spilling. More importantly, it is quick to bring water to a rolling boil and quiet. Definitely worth the slight premium price over other products.

We bought this kettle because of the Krups name and we liked how it looked. We had it for about 2 weeks and the top started rusting. A kettle to boil water and the top was rusting?!! We sent it back.

Honest reviews on KRUPS BW3990 Prelude Electric Kettle with Blue Lighting Water Level

I bought this about a year ago to replace my Braun. Everything the reviews say are true, it's gorgeous and stylish. The lid does fall off sometimes, but it doesn't bother me. The water tastes great. It does leak if you overfill it. And because it is meta;, it does get very hot, so you have to be careful not to touch the body but only the handle. But this is true for all of the stainless pots. One fine day, it just stopped working, and it was not abused in any way. (The contact between the base and the pot stopped working). My conclusion, this is poor quality and I don't recommend buying it. Too bad! So beautiful!

We bought this product in March and immediately one of the two blue lights shorted out. In about four months it began to rust inside (bottom) and is almost destroyed now.

Poor quality, poorly made and designed. I will not buy Krups again.

This heater was purchased for use in an airplane hangar I chose this particular model because it had enough BTU's to do the job, and was easily movable with the included wheel kit.

Pros: Well made, portable, holds 14 gallons of fuel (burns 1.3 GPH), will burn kerosene, diesel, Jet-A and #2 fuel oil. I was particularly impressed by the quality of the wheel/axle assembly. No smoke and very little odor burning diesel fuel. Easy to assemble.

Cons: Although the heater moves easily, the front handle is a bit cumbersome. The fuel filler is located such that you will probably need to use a funnel. The fuel gauge seems accurate. The heater arrives factory-set to burn kerosene. Using one of the other higher viscosity fuels may require adjusting the fuel pump pressure this is easy to do, but the instructions are a bit confusing as the drawing of the adjustment screw did not match what I was seeing. I took a chance on the screw that extended out from the back of the pump housing, and it did the trick.

Overall a great purchase!

This heater operates as advertised if the thermocouple-secured shutoff valve allows the flame to turn on. It takes a lot of fiddling with the shutoff valve to turn to the two 'on' positions even after the pilot has been lit for 15 min. The pilot alignment appears to be as shown on the instruction manual. I find this difficult lighting to be a nuisance.
