Bought this machine in January 2012 and it's still going strong. Popcorn machine was a big hit at parties and my family reunion. Once you use this machine you won't go back to microwave popcorn. It's easy to operate and clean. If you want movie theatre popcorn you have to get coconut oil and butter popcorn salt.

The one small problem i had that i quickly figured out is that you have to use a little less than 4 ounces of popcorn seeds to cook all in kettle. If you use 4 oz or more, only half the popcorn would pop. So, 3 to 3.5 oz seems to be the magic number for my machine.

This style of popper has been around for decades. There is a stainless steel kettle suspended from the roof of the cabinet, with a stirrer, and you put the kernels inside to heat in the oil and then spill out when the lid lifts.

The sides are tempered safety glass panels while the doors are polycarbonate plastic. You use commercial popping oil (coconut oil based) that can take the high heat of the popper. The cleaning is relatively simple; the worst job is occasionally cleaning out the windows as they get a bit greased up. There is a drawer to hold the unpopped kernels.

This is reasonably priced enough for a splashy home theater or for a boys and girls' club. Charitable organizations and businesses might even consider it for carnivals, convention events or fair trailers for selling popcorn or giving bags away as a promotion.

I decided to wait to write my review and before I knew it...it has been over two years. Still going strong! We love it and the only complaint is I wish I had bought a 6oz. popper. The popcorn can be sealed up and eaten the next day and it is still fresh. We use mega-Pop but they are all pretty much the same. Movie night is really exciting now and our guests simply love it!

Honest reviews on Great Northern Popcorn Black Foundation Antique Style Popcorn

After much research, I decided on this model popper from Great Northern. I purchased a box of their 4oz pre-measured popcorn to go along with this and popped my first batch after taking about 10 minutes to set everything up. Four minutes later I had my first batch of popcorn. I think each popped batch is enough for two people so I'm happy with the volume. The design of the machine seems fine to me. Nothing was obtrusive and nothing was excessive. Simple and easy. I'm extremely happy with this popper and so far I think it is worth the cost. Their owners manual could use some simplifying but that's just being nitpicky.

I have owned several different electric kettles, but this one is by far the best. The Zojirushi is easy to use and set up. The timer is the best feature of all, I set the timer in the evening and the water is at the perfect temperature when I wake in the morning. The whole family uses it, for tea, hot cocoa, coffee (french press), instant oatmeal, roman noodles and more! This is the best purchase I have made in a long time, and the Zojirushi is worth every cent.

All in all, this electric pot is wonderful. Heats as stated in the manual (about 35 minutes for entire pot). Easy to use (plug and go). Keeps the water hot for a long time and the digital readout lets you know the current temp of the water.

Couple of drawbacks that maybe they'll fix in the next model: 1) Runs on 2 "AA" batteries for dispensing when not plugged in. Batteries only last about 7 hours. 2) When the batteries run out, you can't just replace the batteries and continue using the pot. It doesn't recognize the new batteries. For the new batteries to be recognized, you must plug the unit back into a wall outlet. That really defeats the purpose of going outlet free.

Seems a bit expensive for the 2 problems noted but otherwise I'm almost universally happy with all Zojirushi products I've ever purchased.

Best Deals on Zojirushi CV-DYC40 Super VE 4-Liter Vacuum Electric Dispensing Pot

My only complaint is: It is only stainless steel for the outside look, not for the container that actually holds the water. As a result, the water dispensed from it always tasted/smelled a little weird, not like from a real stainless steel kettle.

Honest reviews on Zojirushi CV-DYC40 Super VE 4-Liter Vacuum Electric Dispensing Pot

I own this particular model along with a couple CD-LCC models and other boilers. Hand down, Zojirushi is the best for having large amount of hot water ready at home or small coffee shops.

Please note that CV-DYC40 was mainly designed for holding water at 208F and 195F. The unit is designed to be plugged in 24/7 and refilled as needed. Note that a whole gallon of water is contained in an extremely well insulated container while the boiler heats to 212F every single time one adds water! It takes about 2hrs for the insulated units to cool to 175F, which is painfully slow. If you insist on holding water at 175F, I suggest getting a non-insulated CD-LCC model. A workaround for CV-DYC40 is to boil about 2/3 of the water and top off with cold water.

The battery function is very nice as you can take the boiler anywhere in the house, coffee shop, outdoors for parties, catering etc. If you own a small coffee shop and are looking for a boiler/kettle for americanos and hot chocolate consider that this boiler is very slow (30-40min to boil a 4 liters) and you may end up using this boiler as more of a 'fancy' carafe, still using a regular kettle to boil water.

Lastly, for those of you who are tea aficionados, part of the tea flavor comes from oxidation. As the water sits in the boiler at, say, 195F or 208F oxygen and other gases escape which may lead to some teas tasting slightly different. But, hey! If you can't tell a difference then who cares?

Having a Zojirushi rice cooker, it is a trusted brand in my house. I am a frequent flyer and two problems arise from weekly flights: a weaker immune system and jet lag. Proper hydration reduces jet lag and any device that easily increases my water intake keeps me healthier.

I have a large collection of tea of coffee apparati. For tea, I enjoy the instant satisfaction of filling up a cup with more hot water, and have always relied on electric kettles. The Zojirushi has a very large reservoir, definitely enough to fill my 12-cup Bodum Assam teapot twice full for a tea party... No pun intended.

The stovetop method is what I've used the past few days. 7min and boiling water, viola! This method produces water too hot for coffee, and scalding hot for green tea. No control!

Previously, I used 2 Pino digital electric kettles ($70/ea) and found them to have much more flexibility for teas and coffee. They were far better at maintaining temperature to 2-3F, and had a smaller reservoir of 50oz. I found myself refilling the kettle on occasion, perhaps 2-4x daily during the winter months. Major issue is that I used them so much they ended up burning out after 1yr or so of use.

As previously mentioned, the Zojirushi has a massive reservoir. It is great for all sorts of kitchen uses and dare I say household uses. The toilet clogged and we used boiling water and soap to fix it. I'm told it would work well for gelatins, hot breakfast cereals and instant noodles, as well as hearing baby bottles.

For teas, I find the Zojirushi to lack the sensitivity I'm used to from a digital kettle. Rare teas are to be steeped as low as 160F and that's harder to hit that target for me now. I find myself mixing hot water with cold tap water to get exactly where I need to be.

For coffee, 203F is a good target to hit. This water boiler runs hot and the timer works well for waking up to hot water.

Overall, I like the larger reservoir but have sacrificed the control that my Pino kettle had. Hopefully this will at least last longer. It is very easy to make crappy green tea if your temperatures are too hot, less so for black teas.

This model in particular requires batteries. You can make your device portable. To be honest, you can do this with a Zojirushi thermos and save a few $$. The stupid thing is that the batteries literally allow you only to dispense water without being plugged in. For $30, this feature doesn't seem worth it, considering the boiler is insulated. I thought I'd use this for reheating on batteries but that isn't the case.

More updates after sustained usage to come...

I have a medium open living/dining area with high ceilings. I, like most wanted something to help with the heating costs. This machine worked well during the day when I had it running on high with the fireplace going and would warm the room to 70-71 degrees. At night, I put the central gas heat on 64, turned off the fireplace and left the Edenpure running on high. When I woke up, the room was 64, just as I had set the thermostat on the central heat. So needless to say, it did not work at all as the main heat was kicking on. I also do not like the fact that there is no digital thermostat but just several lines to indicate the level of heat and there is no timer. I actually have ordered another similar unit from Home Depot that has both of these features, has two more additional heating elements and is supposed to heat up a 1500 sq foot room and only cost $259 with free shipping. And of course the added bonus of being able to return it directly to the local store if I do not like it. This Edenpure I purchased is rated to heat 1000 sq feet. So, I personally cannot recommend this product.

Consumer Reports, February 10, 2010:

Heating Claims Don't Add Up

Manufacturers of electric space heaters want you to believe that using one of their devices will lower your heating bill. Lowering your home's thermostat(s) and using your main heating system less in tandem with a space heater--called zone heating--will cut your utility bill. (Every degree you lower the thermostat(s) can save you about 2 percent on your heating bill.) But keep in mind that based on current national average prices and adjusting for the energy losses due to burning a fuel, heating with electricity is about two and a half times more expensive than heating with gas, the most common heating fuel in this country.

EdenPure suggests that "you can turn the heat down in your house as low as 50°F, yet the room you are in will be warm and comfortable. When you move to another room, the EdenPure goes with you. Its wheels make relocation a snap." That scenario assumes that you have to heat only a single room to heat at a time or that you own multiple EdenPure space heaters; that once you're in a room you stay put and don't move around the house; and that you're willing to keep the rest of your home at a chilly 50°F. Lowering the thermostat(s) by 3°F would likely result in minimal discomfort for you and your family, but are you willing to keep your home at 50°F?

...Its design essentially negates the radiant-heating effect, so it operates more like a typical fan-forced convection heater. While a fan can help mix the room air, there is typically some temperature variation, with cooler air near the floor and warmer air near the ceiling.

Humidity Information Seems All Wet

EdenPure says its heaters "protects the humidity level and air quality important to breathing comfort and personal health," and also notes that "Heat from the copper tubing rides the humidity in the room and provides moist, soft heat--ceiling-to-floor, wall-to-wall--without reducing oxygen or humidity."

Simply put, when you heat a room with any space heater and don't also have an additional source of humidity, say a humidifier, the total moisture in the air in that space will stays the same but the relative humidity will go down, not up. That's true for every space heater we've tested...

We needed a heater for our fifth wheel and I prefer products made in the USA (especially electric products), so after reviewing many heaters decided on the Edenpure. It really does the job! Saved quite a bit on propane and heats the whole 5th wheel. Plus it's a lot quieter than our furnace. We've been extremely pleased.

Honest reviews on New EdenPURE Infrared Heater US1000

Years ago,I purchased two Edenpure, very efficient and safe, model Gen 3 heaters. One of the heaters was a refurbished model. Both heaters worked great, until the refurbished heater stopped producing heat. I called the company, being that a refurbished hearter did not carry a regular warranty, I could not get help..not even a timely answer from the on line trouble shooting expert. It was the Christmas vacation week for my grandchildren who were coming to stay with me in upstate NY., and without two heaters, my home is really cold. After a long wait for the online company representative to get back to me, only for him to write back stating that he lost my e-mail and what was my heater problem. I wrote him back, but again never recieved answered, and with the nearest repair shop for these heaters hundreds of miles away from my home, I went to BJ's store to see what brands of heaters they had available. To my surprise BJ's had 1 Edenpure US1000, which I purchased. Edenpure has made some changes;the US1000 heater uses three bulbs instead of the 5 bulbs as in the original heaters and I believe runs a bit cooler, not giving the wide spectrum of heat output as the older models did. The Edenpure is a safe and attractive looking heater, and I feel very comfortable when my grndchildren are at my home, knowing that they will not be harmed by any heating elements.

I bought 2! The heater works very well. We run it in the room where our TV and thermostat are located. It raises the temperature to around 72 degrees, which keeps the heat from coming on. As long as we stay in that room, it's nice. The rest of the 1st floor of the house gets very cold unless we run the second heater in another room. These are idea for trailers or small homes. If you have a bigger house you may want to buy a couple of them but, would you really be saving any money then???.

I ordered this unit for work, so I wouldn't have to keep buying soft drinks from the vending machine. It does work in that capacity, but there are some annoyances with it, and some limitations.

First I'll start off with the positives. It's lightweight, and it's really attractive. It also does cool things pretty well. I can't comment on warming things up, because I haven't tried it.

The negative part is it is quite large for what it can hold. And more than that, the insides don't hold temperature very well at all after you power it down. It warms up way too fast. Also, unlike a compressor based refrigeration unit, this thing is on all the time. Lastly, you are only supposed to run this for 48 hours consecutively, after which time you need to power if off for one hour. This is not stated in the description, but is an annoyance.

So, overall, it's not bad, because it does keep things quite cold, and you can put most things in it (2 liter bottles you have slant a little). Particularly at work, it can save you money, and give you a much better selection than the vending machine since you can bring in whatever you want. You will also get comments on how beautiful it is; it's that attractive. Just be aware of its imperfections so you won't be disappointed.

I bought two of these and as an electrical engineer I can attest that the circuit board inside the can is cheaply made and poorly designed; the cord heats up after a while and the unit will eventually die. This mini-fridge is defintely a fire hazard. If you buy this, you should invest in a timer to shut the unit down for an hour or two per day, maybe 2AM to 4AM.

FYI:

I also bought the Pepsi Can fridge and it is a beast. I never unplug the unit and it has been running for 6 months now. It is a little smaller than the Coke can (which is great) and it does not have an ugly AC/DC converter brick (not shown) hanging from it like the Coke can does. The Pepsi can's power is converted internally; only a cord is exposed and not any ugly power brick.

Update: Both Coke Frigdes died in less than 4 months of constant use. The Pepsi Fridge eventually died after 7 months. I recommend to stay away from these fridges. They are great to look at but they are NOT made for everyday use.

Update2: I opened up the two Coke fridges and the Pepsi fridge, and realized a biasing capacitor blew in each. I went to RadioShack and bought replacement caps, and now I have my fridges back. Easy fix for those who can de-solder a part from a small circuit board, and replace it with an equal (or better part). I bought capacitors with a higher breakdown voltage (100V rating), so it will be able to take a little more abuse.

After reading the instructions that came with the fridge it said that I had to unplug it after 48 hours and I was looking for something that could be used like a regular fridge :(

Honest reviews on Koolatron CC10 Coca-Cola Can Cooler

I got this for Christmas and it stopped working after 6 months. I called the manufacturer (Koolatron) and they said it only has a 90 day warranty. When I said it's only been 6 months, they said that the refrigerator was from China, so it wasn't warrantied past 90 days. They offered that I could buy a new motor $30 or new AC adapter ($40). Don't buy this please. You can do a lot better without the hassle. I also had to buy a little thing that turned it on/off every night, so the total cost of this thing far outweighs its cuteness.

....A week after my son got this for Christmas it shut down, never to work again. It looks cool in his room and draws attention, but its appearance is the only thing going for it. We put an Ice pack on the shelf and it keeps things cool, not cold, but a least there is no Fire Hazard! If you want cute, buy it but don't have high expectations.

AC unit is powerful and has a reassuringly even and gentle sound. One thing it is not, however, is quiet. If one uses it in a mobile home (my situation!) there is no part of the house where it is inaudible, at least with the doors open. I can deal with it as I like the sound, my insomniac spouse cannot.

This isn't a bad thing by any means. She is impossible to please. Just be aware of what you're buying a powerful, unobtrusive-sounding but loud cooling unit. Oh, and it can blow cold air in two directions at once which is awesome.

I bought this unit to put in my bedroom. This is an old farmhouse so the air circulates freely throughout the house in a circular manner with my bedroom being at the far end. That part of the house get warm. We already own a Fridgedaire and it just does not do much of anything at all even though it has more BTU's. Hubby suggested I get the 8,000 instead of a larger unit for my bedroom since it is a small area. On high cool this machine cools the whole house while the living room Fridgedaire is only an assist. Granted it is rather noisy but at night I put it on low cool or low dry and it does not bother me much at all. I would think that one would have to take this into consideration before buying. I preferred having the cool during the day and I am not sorry I bought this product in the least, it pushes out the cold air far into the room and the directional adjustment is far superior over the Fridgedaire. I Highly recommend the Artic King over other units if you want cool.

It did raise the Electric bill but If you can afford an Air conditioner, you can afford the bill.

I really liked the idea of the split system, and the idea that it could be a lot quieter than a window A/C. I needed the 25' hose kit since I was installing it on a second floor room (~250 sq ft), so I had to order through the distributor instead of Amazon.

It's now installed and it works cools and heats really well. It's a bit noisier than I thought from the other reviews, but it's a lot quieter than the old window unit it's replacing. We use the room for meditation and yoga we were hoping for something even quieter, but its internal squirrel cage fan seems a little off balance, and various plastic parts sometimes rattle.

It arrived in three packages the outside unit, the inside unit, and the hoses. For me the hardest part about installing the outside unit was that I had to put in an outside disconnect box for power, and all the conduit and fittings that required, and a dedicated 15 amp circuit. It took a couple of days and about four trips back to the hardware store to get it right. It easily just sits on a couple of 12"x12" pavers from Home Depot you could use cinder blocks just something under the feet.

The indoor unit was hard to mount it's heavy and awkward you need two people. I had to buy a 2-3/4" hole saw to make the hole in the wall for the hoses (pipes), power cable, and condensation drain line (one hole for all). But it does snap onto the bracket when it's done.

The (amazing!) instructions are actually adequate, but they had me buy a torque wrench for the refrigerant flare fittings, which it turns out you don't need a regular adjustable wrench (or two) is fine. It took a couple of trips up and down the ladder with soap solution and the wrenches to get the fittings snug and not leaking. The thing they don't tell you is that to get the air out of the system you press the Schrader valve stem for 3-4 seconds (it really blasts out) on the "T-branch valve" (which is closed, while the fluid line valve is open). Then you're good to go.

The tape you're supposed to wrap the hoses (pipes), cable, and drain line with is not sticky it's just a strip of thin vinyl, and it's too easy to drop it from high on a ladder while you're wrapping. But it finally works.

The last thing that got me was when it was all wired up, nothing happened. I used a test meter and verified that power was going to the outside unit from the disconnect box okay, and to the cable to the indoor unit. I finally had the determination to open the cover on the indoor unit, remove the 5 screws, and remove the middle cover. Then I removed the metal cover from the electronics module (one screw) and discovered that the cable had pulled and one of the power connectors was now about one inch too short to reach where it was supposed to connect! Another trip to the hardware store and I had an extension (the cable could not be pulled back since it was now all wrapped tight with the hoses). It was hard to plug in, but with a long pair of needle-nose pliers I finally got it. Putting it all back together is tricky (a true Chinese puzzle) but patience works, and the air-direction vanes are not damaged, and everything fits nicely.

And it works!

I figure I saved $1000 by installing it myself (based on one bid from an HVAC guy), and I'm happy I did. I'd definitely do it again.

I bought this air conditioner for a 350 SQ FT office, it did very good job cooling it down, it is quiet.

Installation was easy, the included instructions were very brief and hard to understand (that is why it lost a star). I found a couple of videos on youtube that made the installation very easy.

Today was the first time to use the heat pump, no complains.

Great Product! Quick ship. Very quiet unit inside and out. My weather has been relatively cool, thus a real test will come with the heat. My only complaint is the manual and instructions. They are somewhat less than precise, however tech support is great via phone. I am not very handy or experienced and I got it done.

Honest reviews on Celiera 12000 BTU 1 Ton Ductless Wall Mount Mini Split Room Air

I should have bought this years ago! I had a window unit in my bedroom for many years. Lost the use of the window, and had to constantly clean the filter, and the condenser. This unit eliminated all of that, although filter maintenance is still important.

Unit arrived in 3 boxes, all in good shape (no damage at all). Instructions weren't the best in the world, but with some good feedback here, and a few You Tube videos, installation was pretty straight forward. Inside unit is heavy, so it really needs two people to lift it into place. Marking and cutting the hole for the lines/wires was pretty straight forward also.

Outside unit had one minor flaw, that was pretty easy to fix. The fins on the condenser are not protected. The opening around the fins was wide open, with no protection at all. I installed a couple of pieces of hardware cloth (wire mesh) in these two areas, and now have good protection for the fins. Outside unit is pretty heavy so have some help available to move it around and get it set in the right spot. You can buy a small faux concrete or rock platform for the unit to sit on, but I made my own platform from treated lumber.

Installation of the outside unit was pretty straight forward also. Lines were easy to hook up, and bleeding the air out of the system was a breeze (hold the schrader valve open for a 4 second blast to air free the system expect oil to spray out onto your hand during this step).

System is whisper quiet, inside and out. I was so used to the window unit making noise that I had to check a few times to make sure the new unit was indeed running. Even the outside unit is extremely quiet. I keep the bedroom (14' X 18' room) very cold for sleeping, and this unit will cool the room down to a very comfortable (chilly) temperature in about 20 minutes or less (I turn the unit on about 20 minutes or so before I get ready to go to bed, and turn it off when I get up in the morning)

When hooking up the electrical for the outside unit, you must provide your own box, and either a separate breaker for the unit, or a plug for the unit. The electrical feed wire for the unit has bare wires at the end no plug. Either wire directly into a breaker mounted in an outside box, or install a plug and an exterior outlet for the unit. Not a big deal either way, but the unit does NOT come with materials to do this. You must buy these items separately (Home Depot, Lowes, or any other hardware store will have what you need).

All in all, this an excellent system, and I would highly recommend this to anyone needing a good air conditioning system for a room. I plan on buying another unit for my new office, and one for my new music room. Beats a window unit hands down, and is much better than adding a new central unit for my addition, or even running extra ductwork and vents from the existing central unit.

I bought this unit to condition the air in a partially converted garage. I was a little concerned having never installed a unit like this before, but figured i'd give it a whirl.

The unit showed up in 3 boxes, the indoor unit, the outdoor unit, and the hoses. Installation was pretty easy despite the instructions which were seemingly written on a speak and spell. The hardest part was making the hoses look like something other that a mess after installation. I had to coil them up and wire tie them. Otherwise, the individual pieces were small enough to move and install by yourself, and i figure had i not had to make 3 trips to the hardware store, i could have been done in about half a day.

The unit works like a champ, is nice and quite, and i am well pleased. however, if you are going to do this yourself, and you are going to do it to code, expect to spend about another $100 at lowes buying conduit, breakers, the right size hole saw, and a outside disconnect.

Fits my needs perfectly; I drink about 3 8oz cups of tea each morning. No issues thus far after 3 weeks of daily usage.

Initial heating of water first thing in the morning:

Filled to maximum capacity which is 48 oz

Water and ambient air temperature: 75 F

Time to reach 195 F was 4 mins 30 secs.

Used the following to measure temperature:

CDN DTQ450X ProAccurate Quick-Read Thermometer

Reheats within minutes if reheating within a few hours after the initial heating. I do not refill the kettle with water until after making my last cup of tea.

Love its simplicity of operation!

.

.

Update: 10.11.2012

Kettle still going strong, still using daily.

To operate:

Turn dial to desired temperature then press the center of the dial to turn on.

When ON, a blue ring on the knob lights up along with a blue LED next to the selected temperature. Lighting turns OFF when water is at desired temperature.

Would have been nice if it had a means to audibly notify that the water is at the desired temperature.

Still luv'in the kettle...

Kettle stopped heating water earlier Dec '12, received replacement after Christmas '12. Had to shipped back the unit to Capresso at my own expense.

The replacement was a new unit, but the power switch does appear to be defective. The switch sometimes requires an extra press or two to turn the unit on. Haven't decided if I want to request another replacement, appears there are quality issues after reading some of the other reviews.

Somewhat disappointing after owning a Capresso espresso maker for over 6 years which is still going strong.

We've been using this Capresso electric kettle pretty heavily (several times daily) for just over a month, and so far it's working quite well.

Pros:

No plastic parts in contact with water (important for health reasons).

Temperature control works very well, so it's great for tea lovers.

Reasonably attractive retro-modern design.

Auto-shutoff works properly at high altitude (8500 feet here), unlike at least one of it's temperature-controlled competitors.

Cons:

The unique design of this kettle has a flaw for single-serving use: The steel dome at the bottom must be completely submerged to avoid damage, which means you always have to heat at least 2 1/2 cups at a time, even if you only need one (because if you only put one cup in, it won't cover the top of the steel dome). This unnecessarily wastes energy, water, and time, and this problem doesn't exist with other kettles (it's specifically a result of the design of this particular model with the dome at the bottom).

Another downside to the glass-and-steel design: If your water is hard, the beautiful, shiny steel dome will be covered in calcium scaling before long, and since the kettle is glass, that scaling is visible. In our home, the water is quite hard and it only takes a day of use for the scaling to be quite visible. So, unless your water is pretty soft, you'll have to choose between frequent cleanings with vinegar or leaving a visibly scaled-up kettle on your counter. In other words, in hard-water locations, it's a more high-maintenance kettle than its all-steel competitors. We can't fault the manufacturer for the quality of our water, but we wanted to make sure that you, the prospective consumer, are aware of what you're signing up for if you have hard water.

Still, we're reasonably happy with the purchase. We're totally sold on the concept of temperature-controlled kettles and we're happy to have found a plastic-free model that works dependably (so far). Next time, though, we'd look for another plastic-free model that doesn't have the steel dome design and thus can be used for single servings without wastage.

BTW, we're sorry to see other reviewers experiencing failed units and some other issues, but we haven't encountered any of these problems (at least not after one month of heavy use).

***

UPDATE Aug 25, 2013: Just a quick follow-up to say our kettle is still going strong months later. We have not had any of the problems with the power button that others are reporting. Perhaps it's the luck of the draw.

I bought this based on the other great reviews, but mine quit working after a week. I returned it through Amazon's great return policy. One other thing to note is that it has a large silicone rubber type ring in the bottom of the kettle to seal the heating element to the glass kettle. There is no mention if this is BPA free or not.

As a replacement for this kettle, I ordered the Bonavita 1-Liter Variable Temperature Digital Electric Gooseneck Kettle. So far it has been fantastic. It has a variable temperature setting the will maintain a constant temperature for a pre-determined time. The Capresso would bring the water to one of five pre-determined temperatures and then shut off once it has been reached. Plus the Bonavita is an all stainless kettle. The only plastic on the kettle is where the handle attaches at the very top, which is out of reach of the heated water. I highly recommend the Bonavita over the Capresso.

They have a problem with this hot water heater for tea--something internal malfunctioned as there isn't much to go wrong elsewhere. Bad experience for my tea-loving wife and thus for me too!

It is a cute kettle and the temperature settings are good for people who like to drink tea. I really liked it when I got it. However, mine stopped working for 1.5 months after I got it. The kettle stopped to heat water: the blue light kept flashing every time I pressed it and then turn the kettle off automatically. Well, the customer service is fine. They asked me to ship it back (I paid the shipping fee) and sent me a replacement. The replacement was also deficient. It was hard to shift the temperature control to the right place, where the power button can be pressed to heat water, and one of the temperature setting cannot be choose. I am waiting for the another replacement (they paid the shipping fee to return it this time) and hope to get one that works perfectly.

EdgeStar 14,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner & Heater
Customer Ratings: 3 stars
Buy Now
This is a general overview of the Edgestar 14000 BTU dual hose air conditioner.

Buying experience: Average

Product was slow to be delivered, approximately two weeks from the time I placed the order until I actually received the item. Buyer's need to keep in mind that this product is not sold by Amazon. It is some external site that sells via amazon. Most buyers will not face any complications but it is important to know that dealing with some little dotcom is very different than dealing with Amazon in terms of service, quality of product, and returns.

Design: Below average

Product itself is extremely bulky in girth and tall in profile. The "portable" tag is rather misleading. Yes, anything is portable but due to the weight and size of this unit, it is not very portable at all. While it looks very slim in the pictures, it has a large rear section where the dual hose is located. The control panel on the unit is also not very touch sensitive and the power button became non-responsive after a few uses.

Product use: Poor to Unacceptable

It is also very unlikely that this product is a 14000 BTU air conditioner. It cannot, I repeat, cannot cool a space larger than 500 sq feet. It has been used in a wide range of temperatures (72-95F) and completely fails to lower the room temperature by more than 5F. I would estimate that it can cool a space that that is at most 200 square feet. Also note that the unit is very prone to condensation and leaks. Puddles form around the unit on high humidity days. Be careful when using on hardwood floors. It is a disaster waiting to happen. Window kit also had a nice big crack around the hose connection area.

Manufacturer/Tech support: Below Average

As mentioned previously, when dealing with an external seller, it can range from annoyance to frustration. First tried the seller for help and as expected was referred to the manufacturer as "this unit should be covered by the warranty". Manufacturer was must have all of one employee working for them. Impossible to get a live person and even then it was the standard read from a script response.

In summary, this is a dismal product with even worse support. It would be best to avoid this brand and seller. I would not recommend this air conditioner even on a sweltering summer afternoon.

I bought this unit as a birthday present for my husband's new workshop. The square footage of his shop is well under what the unit is rated for, but it was worthless in real heat...we live in South Texas. We called Compact Appliance, who sold it to us with a 100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee and they told us to call the manufacturer. They have ignored all subsequent requests for assistance. Manufacturer said its not designed to work where the ambient temperature is over 90 degrees. REALLY?? Why would you spend that kind of money to air condition an already cool place? I will never buy from Compact Appliance again and I will tell this story to anyone who will listen.

Don't buy this money pit!!! Big waste of $730 (original purchase plus repair costs!!!)

On the day after the one-year warranty ended, it stopped running. The manufacturer was rude & very difficult to work with and as a "favor" sent the replacement part at no charge. The part that failed had been redesigned because a tendency to fracture under heat stress. I opened up the back and realized that the job was way beyond my own diy skills. I shelled my own $130 for the repairman, who was very hard to find. He kindly informed me the secret is most AC techs are not qualified to work on mini-duct ac's, which is technically what this unit is.

One year later, the electronics have failed, and having moved to New England, there is NO-ONE who does mini-duct AC work. Still need an AC, though, to keep the creepy basement dried out and the mold at bay...

I read all the reviews and this seemed like the perfect heater/ac for my little office. Well it didn't even come close to cooling my office this summer and now that it is winter I was optimistic that it would at least heat my space...no such luck. In hindsight I should have bought a couple of little heaters and a good fan. I would have been $400 ahead and cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter....sigh.

FOR CLARIFICATION: The item which Amazon shipped to me and which I reviewed is the DK350 Stainless Steel kettle. It was NOT the "DSJM350" as was listed on Amazon and also on my Invoice. The DSJM350 is not a current production model of this kettle.

I have been searching for a replacement cordless kettle for our Capresso H2O Plus 48 oz "glass" kettle. As other have reported the plastic lid on the Capresso fell apart precisely at the end of the one-year warranty. Two screws hold the lid to the glass and they are exposed to the hot steam whenever the unit is on. This is a poor design. Moreover, the metal heating element in the bottom of the kettle began to rust after a few months and it was a continuous effort to remove that weekly. Finally, I never did completely get rid of the annoying plastic smell/taste that others have also complained about.

After my so-so experience with the Capresso, I knew what I did NOT want. I seriously considered the Zojirushi CV-DYC40. However, I declined on that for two reasons. First, the Zoji has a huge footprint. It eats up a 9x12 area on your countertop, and it's ~14" tall. Second, it is a dispenser with a spigot. We use a kettle primarily to pour water over coffee in a Chemex or Melitta filter unit. To use the Zoji, you would have to dispense into a pitcher device first and then pour onto the ground coffee, unless you have a step counter where you can keep the Zoji at the higher level. Not very convenient in our home.

So, I looked and looked on Amazon, and one day the DeLonghi DSJM350 popped up. It was advertised as being able to heat to two different temps, and having a 58 oz capacity (as opposed to the Capresso's marginal 48oz). It sounded good, so we gave it a go.

This is one impressive unit! Construction quality is superb. The pot is stainless steel encasing a laboratory grade polymer vessel. The footprint of this unit is modest for a 57 ounce capacity. It takes up only 6x9 on the countertop. The ON/OFF is an UP/DOWN toggle. When you toggle down, the unit heats the water to the boil. When you toggle up, the unit heats the water to ~175 degrees, the correct temperature for green teas, etc. It heats very fast at 1,500W, less than 6-7 min for a full pot. Remarkably, there is absolutely NO PLASTIC ODOR in this unit, either when it is dry or when the water is boiling vigorously. This is amazing.

Now for the doo-dads. When you set the kettle on its base, it emits a chime tone. As the water heats, there is an internal light in the unit that changes progressively from blue to red at the boil (look at "other images" on the Amazon description). The unit shuts itself off when reaches the boil or when you remove the kettle from its base (unlike the Capresso).

By their very nature, electric water kettles are abused from the get-go. The repeated heating, steam, etc. do a number on the components. This DeLonghi seems to be up to the task, and for now, I would have to say this is the best cordless electric water kettle of this type that we have used. Bravo, DeLonghi.

ADDENDUM: After 10 months of daily, non-problematic usage, our DK350 kettle started to act funny---it would start to heat the water, and then shut down prematurely. It could be restarted and would complete the cycle just fine, or may shut down again. I called DeLonghi. Very courteous C/S staff. Per the terms of the warranty, for $15, they are shipping me a new DK350 replacement unit.

I had high hopes for this electric kettle. DeLonghi usually makes high-quality products, and for a list price of $80 the DK350 should be top quality. After all, it's only boiling water. What I really liked about this model compared to others is the well-thought out design with lights that change color to indicate rising water temperature. Makes a boring task fun. However, it does two things really badly: 1) When the water starts to boil it takes almost 10 seconds for the heater to shut-off. That's much too long for steam to be coming out of the pitcher. And, more dangerously, 2) When I put the empty pitcher back on the heating element, turned off, it spontaneously turned on and started to heat the empty pitcher. Very scary. At first I thought this was a fluke and tried again. After a full 15 minutes of being off, the heating element spontaneously started up again. Needless to say, after this I boxed everything up for return. The threat of the DK350 burning down my home was enough for me to write this product off. I have a feeling this isn't a UL-listed product and presents a tremendous danger if this is a common engineering flaw.

On another note, the inside of the pitcher is lined in plastic. Nowhere in the instructions or box does DeLonghi clarify if it's BPA-free. Therefore, I assume it's not. Shame on them if this is the case.

I purchased this item on December 10, 2010. So far so good! I have to admit that not all Chinese goods created equal some are really worth money you pay for them. This is the case when I feel a respect to the manufacturer and total satisfaction of the purchase.

It's not only perfectly functional but also a visual entertainment during the water heating process you can see how the colors are changing from blue to violet and to red when the water is boiling (you see that through that matte plastic part with the measurements). Also you'll hear the special sound when the water is ready for brewing.

The kettle toggle switch works down (to boil the water completely) and up to keep the water hot enough to brew instant coffee or some other drinks which require hot but non-boiling water). I use toggle down most of the time and it works like clock.

By the way I bought DeLonghi juice extractor from Amazon several days ago and without doubt I see the high standard which this brand represents. From now on I'm going to consider DeLonghi among the ones I would prefer to buy from.

Honest reviews on DeLonghi DK350 Stainless-Steel 60-Ounce Cordless Water Kettle

Started to show rust inside the container after about 2 months of use.

Also it is nearly impossible to open the lid. Need really hard pressure on the button in the lid to open it. Absolutely not possible to open with one hand.

FINAL UPDATE: FAILS THE TASTE TEST

Received original kettle June 22, 2012.

Returned for exchange on November 1, 2012 because water tasted bitter, decidedly electrical.

Received replacement kettle on November 9, 2012.

December 27, 2012: After myriad washings with boiled, filtered water, vinegar, citric acid, and combinations thereof, the water remains metallic, bitter, and has ruined every variety of tea I've brewed.

Upshot: It's curtains for this kettle, no more tries (and prayers!) for a properly working device. I will advise DeLonghi as information only, with no more exchanges for me. The ridiculous round robin I've engaged in is enough proof that this is not a reliable item. If at this juncture it hasn't produced more than a poisonous potion, I'm at ease with tossing it onto the junk heap--loss accepted.

I purchased this unit online about 1.5 yrs ago. The sleek design is cool as is the air it produces. The initial setup time was around 30mins (you must assemble the plastic hoses and mounts), but I managed to get it running within 10min this year. The product works as designed and keeps my living room/kitchen at a constant 73 degrees (easily 400sq ft). I have not emptied any water from the drip valve in the rear so maintenance isn't an issue. The system is a bit noisy and definitely heavy (does have wheels) but we are talking 12,000 BTU. I would recommend this product to a friend or family member.

I consult for an association in the DC metro area and the building space they rent shuts off the AC on weekends and week nights. I've installed 5 rack mount servers and their related switches, routers, etc., in their network closet. This is shared with several telecom systems and back up power systems. This technology setup produces incredible dry heat and is torture on the electronics and media. Several times the servers have shut down due to thermal overload.

This closet is about 10' square with a 9 foot ceiling. The building's HVAC system is connected to this closet.

This unit has kept the closet to the set 76 degrees and only runs when the building's system is on standby as the building keeps the temp at around 74 and this closet has a supply that is wide open.

Installing this unit was painless, cut the drop ceiling tile to size, install included drop ceiling vent adapter, connect exhaust hose and plug in the unit. We've yet to trip the 15 amp breaker.

I gave this unit only four stars because the condenser fan (made of a reinforced plastic) disintegrated at the end of last year's cooling season. When the association fired up the AC this season they noticed it would only produce cold air for perhaps 2-4 minutes, then cycle to room temperature air.

As the case is, Royal Sovereign has just one part listed on its web site for this unit, a $15 replacement condenser fan. Well, today I replaced the fan and it took perhaps an hour. I even removed the 48 blades and assorted other plastic that was once the fan, none were left attached, the squirrel cage was demolished.

I could see where someone else might rate this unit a 2 or 3 if their fan catastrophically disintegrated, however, this unit, when running as it did all last season, was more than up to the task. Because other contractors, consultants, and personnel access this closet, I'm not all that uncertain that someone may have bumped roughly into the unit while it was running and caused the damage.

As the closet air is dry because of the heat produced by the electronics, I haven't, nor do I expect to, experience any issues with condensation.

This thing cooled my 100 degree room in no time. I live on the second floor and as we all know, heat rises! Well this thing really worked well. A bit pricey ($550 when I bought it), but soooo worth it. Put it next to our bed and it cooled down my husband with it's oscilating fan. Remote came in handy when we woke up in the middle of the night cuz we were freezing! I don't know why the other reviews were so poor; we think it's excellent! Not to mention the nice black and silver looks so much better than the clunky white ones we used to own.

Honest reviews on Royal Sovereign ARP-5012XH Portable Air Conditioner Dual Hose

While this product did cool my room a bit, it wasn't what I expected.

This product is extremely heavy and takes a lot of space. The dual hose window ventilation kit is a piece of junk! I had to use heavy tape just to keep it together. I am returning this product right away.

I am unable to report how this unit works because two different units shipped "badly" damaged. I spent a great deal of time researching 12k BTU units. This RS ARP-5012 fit the bill technically. I ordered one from another vendor returned damaged, and ordered the same from Amazon in hopes this would be OK. My mistake.

If I had paid attention to the packaging the first time, I would have noticed that there was very little protecting foam at the top of the unit. Both came in with the very thin, soft foam material broken and in the bottom of the box.

Beware of this manufacturer.

I originally bought the Fire Sense Commercial Patio Heater (see my review of it). I was extremely disappointed in that product. It was absolutely not worth it! The parts were poorly made. It was almost impossible to put the heat shield together since the small nuts & bolts were not long enough to fit through 3 pieces of metal. After numerous attempts to make it work, I boxed it up and sent it back. To give you some sense of what a pain it was to put that heater together, the same day as I put that patio heater together, I also assembled a Weber Gas Grill. My father and I had more trouble putting the patio heater together than we did the finely crafted Weber Grill! Now with a new beautiful grill and no patio heater, I was then going to order a patio heater from Restoration Hardware since I thought they would offer a higher quality product. What I discovered when looking at their specs, the heater they offered was actually this same Fire Sense Deluxe Patio Heater offered on Amazon for $50 more then the FS Commercial Heater. Restoration Hardware offered the Deluxe heater for $449, but did include a cover with it. I opted to order the unit from Amazon at $304.00 and it arrived yesterday. I immediately noticed the quality of parts is much higher than the Fire Sense Commercial unit, and the heat shield went together without a glitch almost, you do have to push hard to get a couple of those bolts through 3 pieces of metal, but much better on this Deluxe heater. The Deluxe heater's heat shield is also better designed as it has fewer pieces. Overall this new Deluxe heater went together smoothly, except for one MAJOR flaw in the directions! The Deluxe Heater stand is not weighted, and there is a plastic unit on the bottom that needs be filled with sand. You should fill the plastic tote as your first step before doing anything else. I put the entire heater together & then was going to fill the plastic bottle at the end, but with the weight of the sand, I could not re-attach it (I was working by myself this time). I ended up having to take the heater apart again, so I could wrangle the base and attach the sand filled weight. The directions do not say anything about filling the plastic tote! My Deluxe Heater starts right up & provides excellent heat range!! The moral of this story is, do not try and save $50 bucks. Buy this Deluxe Patio Heater at the outset and forget about the FS Commercial unit! One other note on this Deluxe unit, to start the heater, it tells you to move the dial counterclockwise, move dial to Pilot position, and hear 2 clicking sounds. I only hear one click on my unit & need to move past Pilot to the low position for it to light. It does immediately light up & produces excellent heat. I would give this unit 5 stars, except they need to change their directions to tell you about the sand weight unit on the stand base! Enjoy!

I did a bit of research on patio heaters and finally settled on this one. The review from KLV is spot on. Just a few other comments:

1. I agree that this model really is worth the extra $50 (at least at the time of my purchase). I have assembled a lot of things in my time and this product clearly has high quality parts.

2. The only catch is filling the base with sand. I am sure there is a better technique but (as I don't live near a beach) simply pouring dry sand into the base was not an option. Give yourself a good 1/2 hour to manually stuff wet playground sand into the base (as was my only option from the local Lowes/Home Depot). I suppose you could pour gravel into it but considering this thing is going to be literally on fire, I wanted the most weight possible to hold it down.

3. As KLV noted, the directions are good but not great. I missed the small note to bolt the propane tank fasteners down before attaching the ballast. Not a huge deal but I did have to do some disassembly/re-assembly to put them in.

4. *****IMPORTANT***** I wasted about a half hour trying to light this for the first time. When I read the reviews I missed this point. The directions are wrong. KLV pointed out you need to turn the dial past the "Pilot" setting to the "Low" setting for it to actually ignite. Once you do, it fires right up. Fire Sense and Amazon should send whoever KLV is a big gift certificate because I probably would not have figured this out and would have tried to return what is now an 8' patio heater.

Please read the review by KLV. My review assumes you read that review first. Rather than repeat what KLV said, let me embellish where I can. Let's start with the fact the heater seems very sturdy and works pretty well, though I've only used it once. Construction seems solid and unit is stable when assembled correctly. If I needed another one, I'd have no problem buying the unit again. That said, the directions are terrible so I'll toss in a few things not in the KLV review.

My unit came partly assembled which doesn't match the directions. The notes below correspond to the steps and part numbers in the directions.

Step 0: There is no mention in the directions of needing to fill the "water box" with sand. The "water box" (Part #23, the thing you fill with sand) on my unit was already attached to the unit. Detach this from the stainless steel base and fill it first. Once it's filled but before you re-install it, attach the wheel assembly and put on the tank base supports (Step 1, Part #22 in the directions). Once these are on, reattach the "water box". If you have a table or bench, put the water box on the bench and then put the base over it. Slide one side of the base just off the table so you can reach the first screw. Using an electric screwdriver in one hand, slide one of the nuts from the bottom of the water base into the hexagon shaped hole and hold it there with your finger. Spin your screwdriver in tighten mode until the nut catches the and tighten securely. Remember that you are tightening metal against plastic so go easy on the torque. Turn the base slightly until the next screw is just off the table and repeat attaching the next nut. Do this until all four screws are tight. Then put the unit back on the ground.

Step 1: My post mounts were already loosely attached to the base. Leave these loose until you attach the post support.

Step 2: Attach post support securely (Part #10), then tighten the post mounts.

Step 3: The lower post (Part #6) is the part of the post without the instruction label. Tighten the screws evenly as you attach the lower post.

Step 7: [Have a step ladder hand for the rest of the assembly as your new heater is getting pretty tall at this point]. My gas hose assembly was in two different pieces. The upper piece was already attached to the head assembly so the head assembly hose must be fed down through the post from the top (not up from the bottom as the directions say).

Step 7a: Attach the gas regulator to the lower end of the head assembly hose which now extends a couple inches below the post support.

Step 10: Only one of my tank support mounts lines up with a hole on my tank base at a time. If that is the case with your tank, line up the one hole up with tank support opposite the wheel assembly so that when you rock the heater back on the wheels to move it the tank won't tip over and hit the cylinder cover.

Lighting instructions: Again, read the KLV review. My unit also makes just one click (this is the igniter lighting the pilot light). It will appear as if nothing happens since you can't see the pilot light. Let up on the control knob and turn the knob counter-clockwise to the left to "LOW" then press the knob back in. My heater lights first time using this procedure.

Honest reviews on Fire Sense Deluxe Propane (LP) Patio Heater w/Wheels

I had some reservations about ordering this, based on the reviews that commented about missing parts and difficult instructions. However, since it seemed to be a good quality heater, I decided to go ahead (I actually ordered two of them). Perhaps they've improved the instructions since prior reviews, but I did not find them difficult to follow. I also did not have any missing parts for either unit. All parts fit together perfectly. Both units fired right up and provided nice uniform heat. Although, I will say the lighting operation is a little strange, but it works fine once you get used to it. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Reference the previous review about the ignition problem. It is a bit quirky, but once you get it, no problem. Just be careful if you hear the propane emitting from the burner and cannot light it soon thereafter you will want to wait a couple minutes.

Other than that, it is of quality construction and can be assembled by one person. You can tell that the directions were written in China or somewhere that is not English speaking, because there are some translation context errors in the directions. They are not huge hurdles though.

The only tidbit I have to add to the previous reviews is to be careful when tightening the bolts. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! You will strip the threading. When you unpack everything, make sure you have an open space, because there are a lot of parts and you do not want nuts and bolts getting kicked under a cabinet and missing something. They do not give you extra parts!
