THe heater is very quiet and warm. It's not on or off, but a constant warmth coming from the unit. You don't know that it's there which is what I was looking for!

Heater worked great and was very quiet, for a while. Unfortuantely after 6 months or so it "died" sparking, etc. I'm just glad I happened to be there when it burned out as I suspect it could have been a significant fire hazard.

this heater makes absolutely no noise and has a very effective thermostat. it heats my bedroom perfectly in the winter.

Honest reviews on Comfort Zone® Low Profile Baseboard Silent Operation Heater CZ600

I was specifically looking for a heater with lower wattage than the majority of the heaters on the market because I didn't want to overload the circuit I was going to plug it in to. This heater was just what I needed. Simple controls, good safety features, and it puts out all the heat I need.

I ordered two of these heaters, one came broken-don't know if it was caused in shipment or not, but I returned it and got my money back right away. The one I kept, puts out tons of heat, however there is no fan on it, so the heat goes straight up. I use it in the bathroom and it really heats up the bathroom. I also sometimes use it to supplement the heat in the bedroom and it helps alot. Live in Colorado and it's COOOOOOLD right now, so very glad to have this little thing. Wish the other one wouldn't have broken. ;-)

Review of Jerdon Warmrails Mid Size Wall Mounted or Floor Standing Towel

Jerdon Warmrails Mid Size Wall Mounted or Floor Standing Towel Warmer, 37.5-Inches, Chrome Finish
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars

I'd seen Warmrails in a store, and ended up at amazon looking for the cheapest model I could find. We had more towels than we had towel racks (a wife and three kids can do that to you), and my towel was rarely completely dry for my morning shower. I wanted, if nothing else, an extra free-standing towel rack to put it on to air dry. So I tried this.

It worked better than I expected. Not only is my towel dry each morning for my shower, but when we put two other towels on it after the kids have a bath, they're dry by morning as well! Three towels, folded (so there's a six-towel thickness) neatly over the top of the rack will dry just fine in just 8-12 hours -and the innermost towel ends up nice and toasty warm (the outtermost will basically be room temperature, maybe just slightly warmer on the half that's closest to the rack, but all three will be completely dry).

Some reviewers were disappointed their towels weren't toasty-warm -in that case, I'd suggest a higher-priced model with denser heating elements, or putting extra towels on top and using from the inside. The manual does point out that how well it works will vary according to where you put it in your home -in particular they recommend against any drafty places. Ours is in the master bedroom, just outside the master bath, and even with a ceiling fan on at times, it seems to do just fine.

All in all, it's more expensive than a towel rod from the local home store, but you don't have to attach it to the wall (a plus for me, as I didn't know where I'd put it if it weren't free standing). It's also probably cheaper on the electric bill (and easier) than dropping towels in the dryer each day.

I was very disappointed with the Warm Rails. The only thing that was warm was the 1 inch space of the towel on the top of the rail. I left it warming overnight, no improvement. I would not recomend this product to anyone who desires warm towels.

Best Deals on Jerdon Warmrails Mid Size Wall Mounted or Floor Standing Towel

I bought this towel warmer as a gift for my husband and was horribly disappointed with it as was he. The bar got very warm while the towel stayed nice and cool. We even tried the suggestions of putting several towels on it at a time, this too failed. This product may be okay if you're looking for a drying rack but don't be fooled in to thinking that it will warm your towels.

Honest reviews on Jerdon Warmrails Mid Size Wall Mounted or Floor Standing Towel

I got this about a week ago. I use this everyday to prevent towels from smelling like mildew. In winter, the towel seems to take forever to dry after shower, which often results in that foul smell. I don't think it "warms" the towel too well (barely lukewarm at best), but it does dry a wet towel pretty effectively. Prior to getting this warmer, I washed all towels after 2 showers, but now the towels smell clean and fresh longer. So don't buy it to use it as a "warmer," you may be disappointed. But it would be good to use as a dryer. And, oh yeah, I wish it were a bit smaller in size. It takes up quite a bit of space. Happy shopping!

I sooo have wanted a heated towel rack ever since I saw a hard wired one at a luxury home I visited. So I was thrilled when I saw Warmrails at the superstore near my home. It was priced at $49. I didnt buy it that day, but did return a few weeks later. It wasnt on the floor, so I made them get it for me from the storage room.

It was very easy to assemble you just snap the "feet" stands on. I was also impressed at how little floor space it takes up. I have a 3 ft X 15 ft bathroom, and the WarmRails takes up very little space and lines up well against the wall without actually touching it. The chrome is also an attractive design and finish, although mine didnt come with a wall mounting bracket.

Functionality is very 'meh'. Like the other reviewers, I am dissapointed with my Warmrails. My towels are not warm. The bar gets hot and the towels are fresh and dry, but not warm. I even out my robe on there and it didnt get warm either. Maybe this thing is good for households who re-use towels over and over and leave them hanging damp on the rack. When my towels are wet after the shower, I just throw them in the laundry (which doesnt amount to too much as I'm living on my own right now.) So I get fresh dry towels anyway.

I'm going to try to return this thing today and get my money back. I'll do some research and see if I can buy an actual towel warmer that *warms*.

Fits my needs perfectly; I drink about 3 8oz cups of tea each morning. No issues thus far after 3 weeks of daily usage.

Initial heating of water first thing in the morning:

Filled to maximum capacity which is 48 oz

Water and ambient air temperature: 75 F

Time to reach 195 F was 4 mins 30 secs.

Used the following to measure temperature:

CDN DTQ450X ProAccurate Quick-Read Thermometer

Reheats within minutes if reheating within a few hours after the initial heating. I do not refill the kettle with water until after making my last cup of tea.

Love its simplicity of operation!

.

.

Update: 10.11.2012

Kettle still going strong, still using daily.

To operate:

Turn dial to desired temperature then press the center of the dial to turn on.

When ON, a blue ring on the knob lights up along with a blue LED next to the selected temperature. Lighting turns OFF when water is at desired temperature.

Would have been nice if it had a means to audibly notify that the water is at the desired temperature.

Still luv'in the kettle...

.

.

Update: 01.08.2013

Kettle stopped heating water earlier Dec '12, received replacement after Christmas '12. Had to shipped back the unit to Capresso at my own expense.

The replacement was a new unit, but the power switch does appear to be defective. The switch sometimes requires an extra press or two to turn the unit on. Haven't decided if I want to request another replacement, appears there are quality issues after reading some of the other reviews.

Somewhat disappointing after owning a Capresso espresso maker for over 6 years which is still going strong.

Changed rating from 5 stars to 3...

We've been using this Capresso electric kettle pretty heavily (several times daily) for just over a month, and so far it's working quite well.

Pros:

No plastic parts in contact with water (important for health reasons).

Temperature control works very well, so it's great for tea lovers.

Reasonably attractive retro-modern design.

Auto-shutoff works properly at high altitude (8500 feet here), unlike at least one of it's temperature-controlled competitors.

Cons:

The unique design of this kettle has a flaw for single-serving use: The steel dome at the bottom must be completely submerged to avoid damage, which means you always have to heat at least 2 1/2 cups at a time, even if you only need one (because if you only put one cup in, it won't cover the top of the steel dome). This unnecessarily wastes energy, water, and time, and this problem doesn't exist with other kettles (it's specifically a result of the design of this particular model with the dome at the bottom).

Another downside to the glass-and-steel design: If your water is hard, the beautiful, shiny steel dome will be covered in calcium scaling before long, and since the kettle is glass, that scaling is visible. In our home, the water is quite hard and it only takes a day of use for the scaling to be quite visible. So, unless your water is pretty soft, you'll have to choose between frequent cleanings with vinegar or leaving a visibly scaled-up kettle on your counter. In other words, in hard-water locations, it's a more high-maintenance kettle than its all-steel competitors. We can't fault the manufacturer for the quality of our water, but we wanted to make sure that you, the prospective consumer, are aware of what you're signing up for if you have hard water.

Still, we're reasonably happy with the purchase. We're totally sold on the concept of temperature-controlled kettles and we're happy to have found a plastic-free model that works dependably (so far). Next time, though, we'd look for another plastic-free model that doesn't have the steel dome design and thus can be used for single servings without wastage.

BTW, we're sorry to see other reviewers experiencing failed units and some other issues, but we haven't encountered any of these problems (at least not after one month of heavy use).

***

UPDATE Aug 25, 2013: Just a quick follow-up to say our kettle is still going strong months later. We have not had any of the problems with the power button that others are reporting. Perhaps it's the luck of the draw.

Best Deals on Capresso 261.04 teaC100 Temperature Controlled Water Kettle

I bought this based on the other great reviews, but mine quit working after a week. I returned it through Amazon's great return policy. One other thing to note is that it has a large silicone rubber type ring in the bottom of the kettle to seal the heating element to the glass kettle. There is no mention if this is BPA free or not.

As a replacement for this kettle, I ordered the Bonavita 1-Liter Variable Temperature Digital Electric Gooseneck Kettle. So far it has been fantastic. It has a variable temperature setting the will maintain a constant temperature for a pre-determined time. The Capresso would bring the water to one of five pre-determined temperatures and then shut off once it has been reached. Plus the Bonavita is an all stainless kettle. The only plastic on the kettle is where the handle attaches at the very top, which is out of reach of the heated water. I highly recommend the Bonavita over the Capresso.

Honest reviews on Capresso 261.04 teaC100 Temperature Controlled Water Kettle

They have a problem with this hot water heater for tea--something internal malfunctioned as there isn't much to go wrong elsewhere. Bad experience for my tea-loving wife and thus for me too!

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Capresso 261.04 teaC100 Temperature Controlled Water Kettle

It is a cute kettle and the temperature settings are good for people who like to drink tea. I really liked it when I got it. However, mine stopped working for 1.5 months after I got it. The kettle stopped to heat water: the blue light kept flashing every time I pressed it and then turn the kettle off automatically. Well, the customer service is fine. They asked me to ship it back (I paid the shipping fee) and sent me a replacement. The replacement was also deficient. It was hard to shift the temperature control to the right place, where the power button can be pressed to heat water, and one of the temperature setting cannot be choose. I am waiting for the another replacement (they paid the shipping fee to return it this time) and hope to get one that works perfectly.

I find this heater to be adequate for my purpose which is to heat my RV during the winter. I use this unit for the front and an electric heater for the rear. Together they provide enough heat although our temps have only gotten down to the mid thirties so far. Manufacturer suggests using it for fifteen minutes outside before putting it in a confined space but I found that it took several uses to burn off the toxic-smelling paint used. Easy to use but plan to spend as much on venting material and gas hoses/hardware as you did on the unit itself.

We rent an old 3-story Victorian home with 8 bedrooms, 4 baths, and 3 kitchens. There's a lot to heat in the winter. Even with new furnace and heat pumps etc. it was costing us $800-$1100/month to heat during December-February. After trying several space heaters, we opted for one of these, and it really is a hit. I keep one in my office, one in my bedroom, and one in the living room. At night the one from the living room is moved upstairs to heat the kids' bedrooms. Because the radiator is quiet, I can take calls in my office without a problem. Because it isn't blowing out forced air, there's none of the sinus issues normally seen in winter when the heat is on. We just love them. This is our second year using this model. I'm going to pick up a few more and use them upstairs as well. My electric consumption for that first year dropped more than 50% and we stayed warmer. This year, we haven't used the central heat at all so far, and my electricity consumption has dropped almost 70% what it had been when I was trying to use the central heat and forced air space heaters. I was hoping they'd be cheaper this year, but even at this price, they're worth it. It's such a nice, even, pleasant heat. You don't have to be right near it. It won't burn your skin if you bump it, and you can turn it off or down at night if you get too warm.

This is a slightly edited version of a review I wrote about the Delonghi Vento:

I now own three different models of oil filled radiators. The Delonghi Safe Heat Oil-Filled Radiator with Overheat Audible Alarm is great, but not as quick to heat as the Delonghi Vento. The heat from the Vento radiates very quickly out the top of the unit. The Safe Heat heater puts a little more heat on the floor, so I am actually glad that I have a couple different models. We use the Safe Heat version in the bedroom because it is very quiet, and heats the floor a little quicker than the Vento. The Safe Heat also has an audible alarm if it overheats, and automatic tip-over shutoff. Those will be nice safety features while we sleep.

Back to the Vento: The timer feature is great; it allows you to automatically turn the heater on and off as many times as you want, up to every 15 minutes, for a full 24 hours! In the winter I plan to have it turn on early in the morning and heat up the living room while we're still sleeping. The analog timer is MUCH better than a digital timer in my opinion. A digital timer has limitations on how many times you can turn it on and off (usually only once or twice). For now, I just leave all the switches "on" and turn it on and off manually.

I have an older Lakewood digital thermostat radiator also; that one we cannot use in the bedroom because the digital relay system to turn it on and off is very noisy, and keeps us awake. Out of the three, it is also the slowest to heat up but it has lasted me 10 years so far so I can't complain. I feel that all analog controls and relays are much quieter than the digital versions. The digital thermostat is nice in the kitchen to set a minimum, but too noisy in the bedroom. .

The Vento is in the living room, puts out the (by far) quickest and most heat, and fills the room-again, less on the floor but it heats the room quicker. The edges are curved so there is less potential for injury, and it really puts out most of the heat up and into the air--the unit doesn't seem to get quite as hot to the touch. The Vento took about twice as long as the Safe Heat to "burn in", but I just put it on full blast outside for about 4 hours and it was good to go. There is much more metal in this unit to "burn in" so it makes sense...

I highly recommend the Safe Heat heater, and even more than the Vento if you want heat on the floor as well!!! It warms up very quickly and is very reasonably priced, and has great safety features. It is our choice for the bedroom.

Best Deals on DeLonghi TRH0715SH Oil-Filled Radiator with Overheat Audible Alarm

got this, based on reviews... to heat up my living room...

but i only feel the heat when standing 7" away from it and/or hunching over the top of it.

AND it has to be 3ft away from anything/everything so you can't put it to the side of the room, or out of the way...

really disappointing heater ornament.

Update: okay, so it didn't work in my living room with high ceilings, so I put it in my bedroom to see if it would be better and it did! It was really hot and toasty. So I think depending on the room.... It will work great or, not. So glad I won't have to return it.

Honest reviews on DeLonghi TRH0715SH Oil-Filled Radiator with Overheat Audible Alarm

This heater must be kept around 2 meters from any walls, furniture, book shelves, etc. That's tough to do in a small apartment. In my case there was no place to put it that wasn't within 2 meters of something. Desperate for heat in a slumlord-owned building with a draft and a poor radiator I tried to use it anyway. No go. As soon as the unit would start to heat up it would shut off because it was too close to the closet. A safety mechanism that is a good feature to be sure -just look at all the poor people who burn themselves up trying to heat their homes each winter after their utilities are shut off. Still, I couldn't use it in my place. I wish I would have seen some mention of that on Amazon.

I always think of black and decker as a really superior brand. I was disappointed when I received this product. It would not sit flush on the counter. I thought, wow, I can't cook with this wobbling all the time. I bent and turned the product until it did sit flush and now it seems ok. I do not think it is a very study product and think it should be in the $20 range because it is very cheaply made.

Like other reviews I saw on this particualr product, it's OK but beeing Black & Decker I thought the quality would be much better, it's very lightweight the chromed part beneath the burner turned all black in a couple of weeks, one burner doesn't heat as much and stumbles a bit. I know it aint pricey but it's not worth buying.

Worst piece of junk ever and absolutely no customer support. Only used 3 times and it failed miserably until it just finally quit during the 3rd use. I am ashamed I even purchased this poorly made, poorly designed and obvious "toss away" item for my office. The literature warns you about the shoddy electronics, this thing has to be plugged in an outlet almost by itself, don't try to use it on a strip with other, more well made items, it will not work. As for calling customer support, our Canadian friends have no concept of "support" unless it is the bandage you need from pressing numbers trying to follow the encyclopaedian phone tree, which is very like the Land of Oz, you end up where you just left from. Do not buy this item, do not buy any item from Black and Decker until they publicly admit they just couldn't throw all these away and so dumped them at discount stores everywhere. Bless the exploited indigenous people tricked into manufacturing this waste of 3rd rate electrical parts.

None of the electric hotplates offered to American consumers is made well, and that includes B&D's. As one can see from the detail of the image, the spiral coil is fastened to the unit, cannot be raised for cleaning. That means it will soon look like the junk that it is.

A hotplate should be made with a removable coil so that the drip pan below may be cleaned. The drip pan, itself, should be a standard as are the ones on an electric range, if after several years (ha!) it needs replacement.

The black-top type of hotplate does not give the heat output for boiling a pot of water (1.5 qts) in 12 minutes. No good for cooking spaghetti! The spiral type might do this when it is new, but not for long.

I blame the retailers, like Amazon, as mush as the Chinese manufacturer for distributing these junk items. Amazon ought to demand better products or not sell them.

Purchased this heater fan with high hopes that it would do the job of heating up my chilly 12 x 12 bedroom and circulate the air...especially at nite. It circulated the air, all right, but it took forever to heat the room and it was so noisy that I could not use it in my bedroom. And I ALWAYS had to set it to the highest heat setting in order to get any kind of performance from it. I ended up using it in my kitchen and purchased a flat panel DeLonghi from my local BB&B. Now THAT was an excellent choice! The Bionaire was eventually given away thru my local freecycle program.

Granted, It was 90 degrees out when I first used the Ac on the bridge of my 50' Yacht.

It just did not cool my 15'X15' bridge. The best that it got was 10 degrees cooler than the outside Temp.

I did like the controls, and the remote. I liked the two speed fan as well.

The air direction fins (Side to side) really do not do the job. The water discharge plastic pipe should expand and stretch another foot or so.

I have not used the Heater yet, so I can not grade that function.

I have had no problems with this unit so far and have been using it daily for the past month or so in the worst part of the summer. The seer rating on this unit is almost 10, so it out classes most other portables in it's BTU range. Not as efficient as a mini split, but not wasteful like the easiest option to get my hands on at a local store. Their seer ratings were around 8-9, plus there's heat. Would buy again and recommend to others. To the users complaining about the internal tank size you should consider trying to look for solutions to that problem besides complaining about it. I've got mine dripping into a 40 gallon reservoir so I don't have to change it out as much, but it's a very efficient unit so there's a trade off. Think outside the box and you'll appreciate this unit. Although my only criticisms are that there is no timer nor can I use one at the electrical socket as when the power comes back on, the unit will still be off.

I was not impressed at all by the performance of this unit.

The instruction manual is very specific regarding the routing of the exhaust ventilation hose.

The "ideal" configuration is a straight shot from the discharge port of the machine to the window. The manual says the shortest length of hose is prescribed and the efficiency of the unit is diminished in relationship to the discharge ventilation.

With all of this in mind it sounds ridiculous to use this system if a standard "window unit" can be installed. It appears that window units (ones that are mounted entirely in the window) are much more efficient.

In comparison and conclusion I suggest making every effort to go with the standard window unit.

I spent several months researching garment steamers and could not decide which one I wanted price vs. quality and which brand was best etc. So I decided to buy an inexpensive one and see if I liked it. Well... I love it and I'm so happy I didn't spend $200 on one either!

I took my 20% off coupon to Linens and Things and was able to compare several models side by side and CAUTION!!! the much more expensive Sharper Image model is the EXACT same as this one just a different color! As far as I could tell, this table top model was the same as the pro models but without the extension pole and with a smaller water tank I mean, how long are you going to be steaming anyway?

When I got it home, it was easy to assemble just stick the hose in, fill it up with water and turn it on. It took a few minutes actually I realized I hadn't been paying attention and filled it way past the max fill line ooops but it still never overflowed or leaked. As soon as the water started boiling, it began to put out a lot of very hot steam. I was a bit worried that the hose was too stiff but once the steam started flowing, it became very flexible.

For all the people that did not like the short poles on the more expensive models, the over the door hanger was perfect. The steam handle hangs on it and it is a much better design for long pants or dresses.

I steamed a pair of curtains, a bed skirt, my comforter (still on the bed), a shower curtain, and a pilgrim outfit. I ran the steamer for about 30 min. and when I stopped, the water level had just made it down to the max line. My biggest problem was that I ran out of things to steam! I was having so much fun watching the wrinkles disappear from all my stuff!! I did steam my hand once or twice at first but I quickly figured out how to stop doing that!

I got this steamer for just under $25 and I couldn't be happier!

I love silk everything, so my dry cleaner loves me. Like many people, I take a boatload of items in every few weeks and hope they don't wrinkle again on the way home or in my closet ... the whole process is expensive, and this little steamer really helps save your clothes and your wallet. It generates a strong, steady flow of steam in about five minutes, and is easy to fill, carry, and store. With one max fill I was able to refresh three silk cardigans, smooth the wrinkles out of three silk blouses and a few of my husband's ties -a good 20 minutes of steaming. It comes with an over-the-door hanger, and two other attachments (brush and velour) that slide over the nozzle head. Instructions for the unit are clear, but nothing is said about the additional attachments. The steamer itself is thoughtfully designed -the nozzle hose coils around the unit, and the head locks into place on top of the steamer, and underneath the steamer is a built-in cord wrap for the power cord.

I don't know how favorably this would compare to the fabric steamers in the $200 range, or how this would work for someone who wants to give up ironing altogether ... but this has definitely reduced my dry cleaning trips, and will help extend the life of some of my favorite clothes. Definitely a worthwhile investment at under $30!

O.K., it's probably not the best steamer in the world but for the price, it's a great value. I've only had it a little over a month and I've already found so many uses for it that it's more than paid for itself. I'm a knitter and find that it works beautifully for steaming and blocking my delicate handknits. Of course, it's great for other clothes too and my drapes never looked better. Tonight I used it to steam out an area rug that had been rolled up too long and had developed some serious creases and it worked like a charm. Now I only wonder why I waited so long to buy it.

Honest reviews on Conair GS4R Compact Fabric Steamer

I'll start by saying I am an avid sewer and have been sewing for over 20 years but have never owned a steamer. I love my iron and the extremely crisp look of a nicely ironed garment. Why I finally decided I needed a steamer is because I was making several outfits out of expensive velvet that cannot be safely ironed without potential permanent damage to the velvet. After researching a variety of steamers, I decided upon this Conair Compact Fabric Steamer based mostly on the customer reviews and price. My only real concern was with the reports of the steamer "spitting" but at least one helpful reviewer commented that this problem was easily avoided by following the instructions and raising the hose occasionally to allow condensation to drain back into the tank (this is 100% effective in completely eliminating that issue my steamer NEVER spits on my garments!)

After reading the instructions and setting my steamer up, the 1st thing I steamed was an old piece of velvet which had be folded and stored in a box for at least 10 years. I didn't expect this fabric to be recovered or restored into any usable condition as it was extremely wrinkled, but after just a few minutes of steaming it was as wrinkle-free and beautiful as the day it was bought.

I steamed many garments that day, cotton, poly, cotton blends, shirts, pants, skirts, etc. and of course, the velvet britches, cape, and dress I was making. I am extremely satisfied and happy with my steamer, it worked better than I hoped or expected on everything I steamed that day, especially the velvet.

On the silk, wool, and velvet garments and sweaters that I would never iron anyway, this steamer is fabulous and, on these types of garments, I would completely recommend the steamer with no reservations.

My only reservation is this...

If you are obsessive and compulsive about your shirts and/or pants being extremely crisp like me, you definitely will not want to abandon your iron. I was not able to get my shirts to look like they had been compulsively ironed and starched, but the wrinkles were removed and they looked nice. One good thing about this is that my teenaged son and daughter do not like the obsessively crisp starched look in their clothes but I don't like the "just rolled out of bed" look, this steamer will give you a nice happy medium neat but not compulsively so.

This is a decent product for the price. Use it 6 times and it will have paid for itself in dry cleaning bills. I agree with the other reviewer who said that steaming is not a panacea, but is like ironing vertically rather than horizontally, and some time and energy are still required. However this product is really good for people who don't know how to iron. I've burned things trying to iron. I have found that you cannot really damage clothes with a steamer, and on that ground I find this to be superior to ironing.

The Conair people could improve this product by making it more compact to store.

I bought four of these and am extremely happy with light performance. They are easy to install and give off great light (you do have to be able to run gas lines though). I did not open the light boxes till after I had them on site, out of country. Mistake on my part. Three of the preformed mantels were trashed out of the four, and one of the glass globes was broken. Since I planned on using the tie on mantels anyway, could care less about the preformed. I'm still going to buy a couple more of these lights.

Well, bought this to replace the original lamp in the 71 Shasta Compact I am rebuilding. The fit is almost identical to the original light in the trailer. The lamp housing is of good quality and the gas valve works nicely. Best of all, they are available!

We purchased the first of these gaslights for use in a remote cabin with no electrical service. For several years, we used wick-type oil lamps and enjoyed the pleasant yellow-band light. But oil lamps require adjustment, trimming, cleaning, and refilling. So about a fat year ago, we tried one of these propane gaslights. It was plumbed through the wall to an eighteen pound propane canister set in a small enclosure outside the cabin wall. A 1/4" copper tube connects to the lamp through the wall. The lamp lights easily and provides about the same light as a sixty watt electric bulb. The control is basically, ON-OFF, without much effective modulation. The rigid mantles seem to work and last as expected, tho' the manual suggests they are less bright than the traditional tie-on type. The color of the light is amber (similar to the oil lamps), and is bright enough to read small print from an adjacent chair. Propane use appears to be very economical as the original eighteen pound bottle is still in use, although it now serves three of these lights. We use the lamps for a couple of hours about two to three times a week. The lamps light and operate in very cold outside temperature (i.e. 10F)The gaslight produces a fair bit of "exhaust" heat so care must be taken to isolate anything flammable...and to provide fresh air ventilation. With three gaslights going, the Smart Bear cracks a couple windows to replace depleted oxygen, or plan to doze off sooner and longer than expected..

Preformed mantles are fragile and always arrive broken. They do include a different nozzle that uses tie on mantles which is what I used and the tie on is included with the lamp. No biggy really, just tie one on and light it up. Would have been nice to use the preformed but not a deal breaker.

I haven't installed this Mr Heater brand

but have the Paulin and Humphrey

which were the companies that made this

light before. They're awesome lights. I have

them in a cabin at 5600 feet elevation as

my only source of light. We have no electricity.

They put out close to the same as a 100 watt

bulb. They're quiet and very fuel efficient. I

like the tie on mantle better than the preformed.

It brighter and cheaper to replace.
