THe heater is very quiet and warm. It's not on or off, but a constant warmth coming from the unit. You don't know that it's there which is what I was looking for!

Heater worked great and was very quiet, for a while. Unfortuantely after 6 months or so it "died" sparking, etc. I'm just glad I happened to be there when it burned out as I suspect it could have been a significant fire hazard.

this heater makes absolutely no noise and has a very effective thermostat. it heats my bedroom perfectly in the winter.

I was specifically looking for a heater with lower wattage than the majority of the heaters on the market because I didn't want to overload the circuit I was going to plug it in to. This heater was just what I needed. Simple controls, good safety features, and it puts out all the heat I need.

I ordered two of these heaters, one came broken-don't know if it was caused in shipment or not, but I returned it and got my money back right away. The one I kept, puts out tons of heat, however there is no fan on it, so the heat goes straight up. I use it in the bathroom and it really heats up the bathroom. I also sometimes use it to supplement the heat in the bedroom and it helps alot. Live in Colorado and it's COOOOOOLD right now, so very glad to have this little thing. Wish the other one wouldn't have broken. ;-)

I bought this heater based on some reviews the features mentioned in other reviews I actually mostly agree with. It is quiet, it has a nice display and the unit is small. But as far as effectiveness as a heater it stinks. Unless you're heating a very small room it's inadequate. I have some other small space heaters and they are more noisy but they run less and heat more. I'd trade the quiet for better throughput. When the vornado runs for a long time (hours) The output seems to be noticeably less warm than when it first runs. The unit also has a safety feature which automatically turns it off in case it's tipped. This is a great safety feature that should be in all space heaters but on the vornado the switch is so sensitive that it sometimes turned off even if it's just lightly bumped even though it's still sitting completely upright. Even on hardwood floors I have to go press the unit down to get it to start heating again. I would not buy another and am even more upset at its poor heating given its high price.

I purchased the heater for our bathroom. I have been through quite a few bathroom heaters. It's the only room that I want a little toasty. This so far is the best, it's quiet, so quiet I didn't think it would work, but quickly effective.

We got this heater to maintain the temperature in the nursery without having to heat the whole house. It's great! I was always worried that my little one would get too hot or cold during the night. This gives me one less thing to worry about. Bonus points for providing pleasant t white noise and for being a fan (noted for reducing risk of SIDS). Worth the price for the reassurance but still high in my opinion.

Honest reviews on Vornado iControl Whole Room Vortex Heater, Automatic Climate Control

When I was a young adult, I was amazed at the neat little room heaters that became popular. They were basically just heating coils that generated heat out the front of the little metal box that sat on the floor. They were power drains. They were dangerous.

Technology has gotten better and better. Now, with our Vornado, following the instructions, we can strategically place it in a room and it creates a vortex of air that deflects itself around the entire room. This little device packs a punch.

Sometimes, my wife wants instant gratification when her feet are cold. She will aim it at her feet in the conventional way we used space heaters. This little gem works great in that mode also.

...from heaven. This is possibly the nicest heater I have ever owned/seen. Quiet, safe, cool to the touch, 2 heat modes, and a fairly accurate temperature sensor. The controls on the heater are kind of a hassle and I much prefer to use the remote. Besides that I LOVE this heater. Well worth the $150 IMO.

As a data processing manager, I have seen many office space heaters plugged into the same outlet as the person's computer. Most of these heaters draw 1500 watts at full power, risking popping a circuit breaker and shutting down their computer. Additionally, many of these 1500 watt heaters are poorly designed and melt their plugs over time. The Vornado VH101 Personal Heater draws either 750 or 350 watts, depending on setting. When placed on the desktop or hidden under the desk, it warms the user as well as a room heater without the above mentioned risks associated with excessive current draw.

I tried to like this heater. I really did, but it's actually not correct to call it a "heater". It's really a "warmer". I ended up returning it after several weeks of trying hard to make it work for me.

It performs nicely in cool rooms. It's probably ideal for an office or cubicle in a modern, heated building where you just need a little more warmth in your personal space. The vortex action of the Vornado is impressive. Unlike heaters that aim the heat at you, the Vornado aims it around you rather than simply blowing it on you.

However if you are like me and need to heat a cold room, this is not the device for you. During the winter, the temperature inside my office when I open it up in the morning is usually in the 42F-55F range, and this heater completely fails at heating it up. I was using the heater in conjunction with my oil-filled radiator, with the Vornado providing some heat while the oil-filled heater slowly heats up. The tiny 200 watt Lasko MyHeat does an excellent job at this, but the Vornado does not. Used in this way, The Vornado actually takes nearly twice as long to bring my tiny office up to 67F as the little Lasko does.

However, I don't want to totally bash the Vornado. For people with other heating needs, it could be a perfect choice.

What I like about it:

The tip-over switch works well, almost too well. The first day I used it, I didn't notice that the rear edge was resting on a USB cable. It was enough to stop the heater from working. It's a good safety feature.

It appears well made

The heater is good looking, a shiny black with a silver grill. I don't really care how a heater looks as long as it works well, but it's a definite plus to have it be good looking as well as functional.

It comes with a three year warranty, longer than many heaters.

What I don't like:

The switches are on back, so you can't see them unless you pick up the heater and turn it around. Until you're used to it, selecting high and low settings without seeing the buttons can be tricky, especially with a non-heat fan-only option between high and low. It was a nuisance, especially on a heater without a thermostat.

The warning light that shows that the heater has failed to turn on because of a problem such as sitting at an angle is nearly the same color as the orange power light. It should be a different color, such as red. You get used to it, but there really should be a greater difference in color.

I'm knocking off one star for the design problems in a heater as well designed as the Vornado, they are unexpected and I'm knocking off a second star for its pathetic heat output.

General information about buying electric space heaters:

=============================================

I've owned and used electric space heaters since 1988, mostly DeLonghi oil filled radiators. When I recently began looking for a heater that would warm up a room faster, I was frustrated at the lack of hard, objective, facts about electric space heaters. Even the manufacturer websites often fail to mention or makes it hard to learn the most basic information you need to know, such as wattage ratings and warranty lengths. Not even Consumer Reports has enough information to really inform a consumer. Therefore it's up to us as consumers to share what we know. The rest of this review shares some of what I've learned.

In case you're wondering what heater I decided on to replace my DeLonghi, I didn't, at least not yet. I tried a Vornado PVH and a Bionaire BH1331-U, but I ended up returning both heaters. I'm sticking with my oil-filled heaters for now.

Basic electric space heater facts:

1. All electric space heaters are equally efficient. All heaters rated at 1500 watts output the same amount of heat, but may do it very differently. You have to choose the one that heats the way you need it.

2. Power consumption is determined by two things: the power setting you're using and how long the heater is actually on. Turning up the thermostat setting doesn't increase the heat or power consumption; it just lengthens the time that your heater will be running.

3. To reduce power consumption, use the lowest power setting on your heater that produces the heat you need.

4. An electric space heater will save you money only if you turn your central heating down or off and use space heaters to heat only the rooms where you need heat.

5. The only kind of electric space heater that's likely to provide adequate heat in a large or draft space is a radiant heater (not to be confused with a radiator heater, which is very different), but radiant heaters pose a fire hazard.

Don't take manufacturer wattage claims too seriously. When I used my Kill-A-Watt meter on six space heaters, I found variations of up to 200 watts between the claimed and actual wattage for each space heater. In most cases the actual watts were less than the claimed watts, but one of my DeLonghi's 1500 watt heaters turned out actually to be a 1600 watt heater.

Two crucial steps in finding the electric space heater that's right for you:

============================================================

1. Learn which heater is right for your needs. A huge percentage of complaints by reviewers about space heaters are due to reviewers buying the wrong type of heater for their needs. Your first step should be to decide between the basic types: Ceramic heaters with a fan, oil-filled radiator, micathermic, and radiant. First learn the conditions in which each one works best and works best and then select the type that will work best for your needs. There is no one single "best" heater for all situations. Each one has conditions in which it works well and conditions in which it's terrible.

2. Look at the warranties. Warranties on space heaters range from one year to five years. Delonghi and Soleus heaters that I've checked have one year warranties. Other companies, such as Bionaire, Honeywell, Lasko, and Vornado offer three year and five year warranties on many but not all of their models. If a company offers only a one year warranty on some models but a five year warranty on others (such as Bionaire), it raises question about the durability of the heater with the shorter warranty. However a long warranty is only as good as the company offering it. Read reviews to learn what experiences people have when their heaters die while still under warranty.

In most cases, you'll have to download the manual from the manufacturer's website to get the length of the warranty. It's a nuisance, but it's worth taking the time to do.

Don't let anyone tell you that any particular type of heater is "the best". The best type is the one that best suits YOUR needs. The best heater for me might be the worst heater for you. Some heaters heat up a cold room faster, some keep a room at a steady temperature, and some will work better in a large space.

Some questions you need to ask yourself before deciding which type of heater to buyWill it be keeping a room at a steady temperature? (oil-filled radiator or micathermics heaters might be best)

Will it be heating up a cold room? (a heater with a fan or a radiant heater might be best)

Are there children or pets who might be injured by touching a hot surface? (oil-filled radiator and radiant heater might be a problem)

Do you want to heat just a particular spot rather than the whole room? (radiant heaters might be best

Are you concerned about fire risks? (oil-filled radiator or micathermic heaters might be best, though no space heater is completely safe)

Oil-filled radiators:

These are my favorite heaters. These are the heaters that look like old-fashioned steam radiators. The oil retains its warmth after the thermostat cycles off, which is important if you want to keep a room at a steady temperature. The downside is that the oil takes longer to heat initially, which is why these heaters take so long to warm up.

I have two DeLonghi oil-filled radiators; I've been using one of them for 23 years, and the other is about eight years old. I love the heat they provide. It's steady, warm, with no noise and no drying out of the air like with some other types of heaters. They are ideal for maintaining a steady temperature in an enclosed room.

Oil filled heaters have a huge drawback, however: they are terrible at heating up a cold room. It can take an oil-filled heater hours longer to heat up a cold room than other types of heaters.

The US Department of Energy recommends oil-filled heaters as the most efficient, because the fins generate warmth even when the heater's thermostat cycles off. However this efficiency is only when the heater is continually on, keeping a room at a constant temperature. If you turn the heater on and off frequently, you'll lose most of the efficiency that's inherent in these heaters.

If you have children or pets, look into one of the shielded radiator heaters. I prefer the unshielded ones because they radiate more heat laterally, but the surface can get very hot and be a hazard if touched. DeLonghi claims that their shielded radiator heaters circulate heated air more quickly. Both of mine are unshielded, so I have no way of confirming that. My concern about the shielded radiators is that they would direct more hot air up rather than to the side, where I need it.

If your electric rates are different for different times of the day, you can use this to your advantage in setting your radiator heater toswitch on and warm the room from cold when rates are low, then let it provide steady heat when rates are higher.

A word of warning about oil-filled radiators: if one is poorly made or damaged, it can leak oil and permanently damage rugs and floors or even start a fire. Only buy from a reputable manufacturer and don't accept one that has any visible damage.

Ceramic fan heaters:

These are great at heating a room quickly, however many people including myself don't like the heat they blow. I don't mind it in my Vornado Personal Heater (375/700watt), which is located under my desk, but I thoroughly dislike it in the old Honeywell ceramic oscillating heater that came with my house. I much prefer the warmth that comes from an oil-filled radiator. Ceramic heaters can be most effective at quickly warming up a cold room.

Radiant heaters

Radiant heaters (don't confuse them with radiator heaters!) work by heating whatever they are pointed at rather than heating the air in the room. If you have a large, drafty space, a radiant heater might be your best choice, because it doesn't heat the air, only the objects and people it's directed at.

Micathermic heaters

Micathermic heaters work similarly to oil-filled radiators, except that instead of heavy metal fins filled with hot oil, micathermic heaters have thin sheets of mica that heat up. I've only had experience with one micathermic, a Bionaire BH1331-U, and found that it's exterior surface remained very cool except for a few very warm spots on top. There would be less risk of young children being burned by touching a micathermic heater than an oil-filled radiator. Micathermic heaters are slower heating than ceramic fan heaters, but are faster then oil-filled radiators..

Baseboard heaters

I have a Lakewood oil-filled baseboard heater I bought five years ago that has many of the advantages of a micathermic heater. It heats faster than an oil-filled radiator but has no hot surfaces and low fire risk. My Lakewood does an excellent job of heating my 12x15 bedroom.

However I have not researched baseboard heaters and only have experience with this Lakewood, so I don't know whether others are as good as this one. I was impressed that when I measured the actual wattages of my various space heaters, the Lakewood's actual wattages came closest to its claimed wattages of all the other heaters I tested. Lakewood unfortunately went out of business in 2009 and had a major problem with oil leaking from its heaters a few years earlier. Despite this, it's in many ways my best heater and has the lowest cost of operation.

I ordered this for my wife, who actually wanted a larger version of the same unit. After reading the specs and reviews I picked the EH1-0050-06. It Was for her cube at work and a larger one of a different brand had already tripped the circuit breaker and shut down a few computers. The IT people were not very happy. This one works great, keeps her warm and stays under the power draw to trip the circuit. She uses the fan mode when too warm and the heater when too cold. Perfect!

Honest reviews on Vornado VH101 Personal Space Heater

My VH101 personal heater works great. However, shortly after running it for several hours it started to make a "clicking" sound which is very annoying. I emailed Vornado customer service about the problem and never heard back from them. We own a couple of other Vornado products that have performed well for us for many many years. Those units were made in USA. The VH101 was made in China. Even with the annoying "clicking" sound, I recommend the VH101.

This little heater is perfect. It's quiet, it's compact, and it keeps me warm! What's not to love? I also like the built in safety feature, which is the little button underneath which, if the heater gets tipped over, or is even lifted off the ground, it turns off. Also, I like that the body stays cool regardless of temperature so it's not hot to the touch. The only potentially negative thing I have, if you can even call it that, is when I put it on the HIGH heat setting, it smells like heat... vaguely like hot plastic even though the unit is NOT, in fact, melting. I wouldn't trade it for anything, I am finally comfortable at my office. LOVE IT.

I would like to warn anyone who wants to buy Dimplex Wall Heaters period, "don't". I bought 3. Two for my home and one for a friend's home. All three work and preform the exact same way, Terrible. You half to turn the thermostat all the way up to get it to come on when its cold. They then continually go off and on, off and on. On for about eight minutes each time. They don't stay on heating but about maybe five minutes, which does not heat the room at all. Like I said all 3 work just alike. Now one of them will not go off period unless I turn the knob all the way off. Because they keep going off and on continually for a short period of time the heater does not put enough heat out to warm the room. The heaters should since the room temperature before they go off so that when it gets warm, then cut off. But not so. Please do not buy Dimplex heaters thinking they will warm your house. Made only, I repeat only for indoor spaces, whether placed in a vestibule, entrance way, stairwell, kiosk, or other area subject to cold drafts and at that I can't see how they would work.

I am having to buy another brand called Q-Mark which is made to heat a 480 square foot room. I since then I have done a lot of research on wall heaters and found Q-Mark to be one of the top brands. Just cut my loses and move on. Like they say live and learn sometimes the hard and expensive way.

The heater was received in new condition. Installation was extremely simple. Works great. Nice feature to have the built-in thermostat. The only issue I have is the dial on the heater unit doesn't indicate temperature, so you have to guess where to set the dial for the proper temperature. Other than that, a great unit.

I am the world's biggest Keurig milk frother fan, so why am I giving it only 3 stars? Because this expensive and addicting accessory only works reliably for about three months. It froths milk for those first few months like nobody's business, perfectly heating your milk with a snowy mountain of froth on the top and then it stops working. I know this through extensive personal experience, because I have (hangs head in shame) actually paid for three of these puppies that's how obsessed I am with them. I returned the first one after a surprisingly contentious phone conversation with a Keurig representative who all but accused me of breaking the item. "You can only use skim milk with it", she admonished me, even though the advertising blurbs for the item say nothing about that. I have dutifully complied with the rules for frothers #2 and #3, but yesterday, when the third one gave up the ghost, predictably, at the 3-month-mark, I decided that my dysfunctional relationship with the Keurig frother has to end. Time to start buying half-and-half again.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

The first unit was purchased last Saturday, and Saturday afternoon, I made delicous and abundant froth for my coffee. The next morning, my husband made it, and it only half frothed. Monday, the unit did not work at all; replaced it. Monday afternoon, new unit must not have heated long enough. No work. Replaced it, thinking third time's a charm--Fool that I was. These units are definitely lemons--not charming. The third one shut off this afternoon after around 35 seconds. I think that is the problem, they are shutting off prematurely. What are the chances that my local Bed, Bath & Beyond got stuck with a shipment of lemons with electrical cords and cheap, plastic frothers?

Best Deals on Keurig Cafe One-Touch Milk Frother

Found this item cheaper at a local "Bed, Bath and Beyond" store ($79).

This product works as advertised. It has three parts:

1. The base (which plugs into the wall and provides the electricity)

2. The decanter which contains the electrics that heats the milk. There is a socket under the decanter the plugs into and sits loosely the base.

3. The removeable lid that has a stirrer attached to it.

3. The stirrer, which is a tiny wire whisk that you can remove when you only want to heat the milk.

Its very easy to operate... You put the correct amount of milk into the decanter(There are two fill lines, one for froth, and one for hot milk), place the decanter onto the base and press a button. The wire whisk spins around as the unit heats the milk and you get a nice single serving of froth. Remove the whisk and you can simply heat up the milk. The unit shuts itself off automatically when it is finished properly frothing or heating your milk. There's no guesswork at all.

Not only does this product prevent you from cooling off your coffee with cold milk, it makes your coffee look and taste better too. Funny how simply placing a layer of froth on the top of your coffee makes it look ten times more appealing. We tried it using Mocha, Donut Shop, and Butter Toffee flavors. It worked great in each one of those.

After you're done, it's very easy to clean up. Just rinse the decanter out with water (and dish-soap if you want) and rinse off the whisk and stirrer.

Is it worth $80? We think so because, like the Keurig, there's no guess work. Just pour in the milk and press a button.

Its great for getting creative with your coffee! For instance, we created a layered mocha: Pour the froth on the bottom of the cup, add Chocolate Syrup and then the coffee on top of that.

This heater has a huge pair of shoes to fill, and frankly, I doubt it will be able to measure up. My first portable heater was a Tatung ceramic heater, a cube about 8 inches per side with similar wattage to the Soleil. Both heaters have fan-only/low/high operation with 1500W maximum (the Tatung might have been only 1200W...can't quite remember, and the Soleil actually has the reostat-type temperature/thermostat control as well).

My Tatung was in constant use during the cold months and it lasted 17 years of absolutely maintenance-free operation...UNBELIEVABLE!

I am all but positive that the Tatung was made in Taiwan. The Soleil is marked Made In China. And given my experience with Chinese electronics I would NEVER have purchased it if it weren't for the fact that I was in a bind. When I went to buy an alarm clock, I had to buy THREE before I found one that functioned straight out of the box. And there are a lot of goofy things I see in Chinese made products the dish rack where the bowls won't stand up, the socks that are so tight that they strangle your feet...don't even get me started about the rest of it. It's like they are playing craps with the specs and measurements. It's extremely irritating to have to deal with this type of thing. And people in the States are not aware of the fact that, in Europe, they get well-made German engineered products...it's we here in the States that get the crap from newbie engineers in China. That is just the reality of things.

Well, all that being said, this Soleil heater gives a very good first impression. The case itself seems solid. I like the brushed metal look and feel. The controls feel tough and they click in a sturdy way when engaged. Also, I must say, it is very nice to have a heavy-gauge power cord for once I haven't felt any heat in the cord, even after several hours of use. Ah soooooo, Thank you, Soleil! I am using it in a somewhat larger room than many might, so I cannot say how well the thermostat feature works (When I use heaters and air conditioners I usually like to max the output from what I hear they operate more efficiently in those conditions).

How did farmers use their milk house heaters? Not sure. Maybe they hung them up, but I am surprised that there aren't some optional plastic feet like your box fans come with, because this thing likes to tip over. But the good thing is that the auto shut-off is very sensitive. This thing shuts down if it tilts just an inch or two in any direction, so I suppose that is a good thing.

I haven't owned this for long, but I already have developed some confidence in this little box. But for now I am keeping my receipt anyway.

I looked around for a U.S. made milk house heater but to no avail. If anybody knows of one, please let me know. So I bought one of these. So far, works fine. But I also bought another brand, same style which I like just as a backup. Why? Because I know that this heater from RED China will not last. and maybe buying two of them is just what the greedy business types who have exported our jobs to RED China want. At any rate, I can tell you that for now it works fine. Years back, I had a U.S. made model that probably lasted 20 years. I don't expect that of this one.

By the way, for all of you who wonder what a milk house heater is, it is used to warm up the milk houses or milking parlors ---the place where the dairy cows are milked. It is not used to heat up the whole barn, that would be impossible for it to do.

My husband and I purchased two of these heaters at the start of the fall season. We live in a pretty big farm house so all the gusty cold wind just whips right over us from the fields. We also have oil heat and have spent nearly $2,000 a year in oil! We got these to help keep our oil use down and they work great! We had almost a full tank of oil delivered in October and now we're just at a little under 3/4 tank because of these heaters. We set our thermostat at 65-68 and use these as our main source of heat when possible. Nice even heat, doesn't dry the air out and doesn't "pocket" heat either. I was a little worried about our electric bill but it hasn't really changed much...maybe 20 bucks a month. Even if it was $100 dollars more it STILL wouldn't come close to what we usually pay for oil so I was pretty happy with 20 bucks:)

I am not impressed, the fan/blower inside of the box moves very little air, so while the box gets very hot (which is nice), unless you are holding your hands or feed literally right next to the front of it, you cannot benefit from the heat.
