I have tried the quartz and ceramic heaters which often require a small fan to circulate air past the elements to heat the air. I have also been in homes that use natural gas for gravity heat, central air, built in electric ceiling heat, and a natural gas wall heater. Most of the gas or electric element heaters that I mentioned tend to dry out and remove some of the oxygen from the air which can cause that uncomfortable "soar throat and headache" feeling. These DeLonghi oil-filled radiators don't seem to negatively effect the air since they use clean electricity and simply heat up the air through efficient convection and radiation. This model TRD0715T has side metal tubing that creates more of a vacuum effect which seems to make the hot air blow out of the top of the unit without the use of a fan. DeLonghi rightfully nicknames this as a "Dragon model" since has the effect of a forced air heater without the noise or extra electricity requirements. On low 700W, medium 900W, or high 1500W settings you can feel the hot air at least two feet above the top of the heater. A simple analog thermostat dial enables you to choose your desired temperature level for the unit to operate at. Other nice features include a 96 position, 24 hour timer that allows you to customize when the heater turns on or off throughout the day. There are also some nice safety features such as an automatic shut-off if the unit is tipped over or if the temperature of the unit gets too high. Although the sides and top of the device get hot it does not burn you if you happen to accidently touch it. These devices are very efficient compared to the other electric heaters and many people use them as very efficient room space heaters and they are able to turn down their central air systems to save on gas or electricity.

PROS: This oil filled heater is clean, energy efficient, safe, and works well at heating small to medium sized rooms. The clever design allows for a hot air vacuum effect which heats a room faster, this model includes a 24 hour programmable timer. Retractable wheels allow you to easily move or store the device. The sealed oil-filled unit with auto shut off features makes it one of the safest electric heater designs.

CONS: Not as effective at heating large rooms that have poor insulation or large open areas. Energy efficiency is limited to use as a space heater in smaller to medium sized rooms or very well insulated larger rooms. The heated air is very non-directional compared to forced air or reflective quartz or ceramic electric space heaters. Similar to other types of large electric space heaters it requires a very high (up to 1500W) electrical current from a single outlet which can cause problems in homes or buildings with very old or poorly designed electrical systems. It does not have a digital LCD temperature display which is a common feature on many other space heater models.

SUGGESTIONS: On their high setting most electrical space heaters can draw as much electrical current as a big hair drier. Make a plan as to which room outlet you are going to plug this high current heater into since it is recommended that you do not have any other high current devices plugged into the same outlet or on the same circuit as this heater. If you have any of the previously mentioned issues with your electrical system consider using the low 700W or medium 900W settings to help prevent any problems with overloading the electrical circuit. If you are on a very tight budget and you don't need a programable timer take a look at the very low cost model EW0507W (I also own one of these) which has less features and no metal side tubing but uses the same basic oil-filled radiator technology. When brand new all models of these heaters give off a "wet paint" odor which in fact from an anti-corrosion chemical used to protect the unit during shipping. Simply keep the heater in a well ventilated area when you use it the very first time and the odor will go away for good after running it at the high temperature setting for a few hours.

THE BOTTOM LINE: This "Dragon model" TRD0715T safe heat oil filled heat radiator is the best room space heater I have ever used. I am so impressed with this heater that I have purchased two of them. I give it the highest rating of FIVE out of FIVE STARS.

Just bought this, still deciding whether to keep it. Ran a little experiment, thought it might give folks an idea of what to expect.

Room size: 154SF (11x14)

Finished, unheated basement room, with one insulated external wall, the rest uninsulated interior walls. No windows, door closed.

Outside temp: 15F

Put heater in center of room

Put thermometer on a desk 6 feet away

Started at 10:20AM with a cold heater set on high, measured for 5 hours

10:20AM 49.6F

11:20AM 55.9F

12:20PM 59.9F

01:20PM 62.6F

02:20PM 64.4F

03:20PM 65.8F

So roughly 2 hours to raise the temp 10F, 4 hours to raise the temp 15F

Unfortunately, I suspect that none of the competing electric heaters would do significantly better, since they're all limited to 1500W. Since I'm reluctant to try a fuel-burning heater in an unventilated space, I may stick with this Delonghi and call it good enough.

Here's a review from the perspective of having used one of these for an entire winter. I bought one of these a year ago so we could set our natural gas heat on a very low temprature at night during the winter and still keep the master bedroom warm. Here are my observations.

1. It performed flawlessly and was so quiet we wouldn't even know it was there.

2. The timer is what sold me on the unit. 24 hours divided into small time intervals which may each be turned on or off give huge flexibility in when this heater runs and doesn't. It's on automatically only when you want it on.

3. The heat comes out the top. The sides stay very "cool" for a heater. I can put may hands on the sides for about a half a second, which means that touching the heater accidently on the sides probably won't cause a burn. It really seems to be built with safety in mind.

4. I would, of course, still follow the directions with regard to how close it is placed to other objects. As an additional safety measure, I bought a large, thick ceramic tile to put on the carpet, and then I put the heater on the tile.

5. There is an oily smell that seems to come from the heater when it is new out of the box and after being turned on for the first time after being in storage for the summer. When we first activated ours two nights ago we smelled it, but tonight not so much.

6. Some seem to have had build quality issues and I can't comment on that because we seem to have received a good one.

7. I live in the Pacific Northwest where the winter temperatures rarely get below 30 degrees. I know in some places it gets way colder than that, and I have no idea how well this heater would keep you warm under those circumstances.

8. Right now we're running it in the family room to see if we can leave the electric baseboard heaters off for the winter. Of course, if this experiment succeeds, we'll have to buy another one of these heaters for the bedroom.

9. I have two small children, and once I've explained to them that they need to stay away from it, I have no safety worries for them.

So far, this is far and away the safest, quietest, and most effective space heater I've ever owned. For me, it sure beats a box with glowing orange heating elements and a fan!

Postscript: I bought a second one. When you are unpacking it, beware that there may be bits of styrofoam down in the heater. Look for those and get them out of there before you power it on for the first time. That may save some you some stinky fumes, but still follow the directions and let it run on full power with a lot of ventilation for at least two hours or more. I bought a second unit and ran it for three hours with the window open.

Second Postscript: Well, we bought a second one to see if it was more efficient than the baseboard heaters in our family room. We turned the baseboards off and ran this heater using the timer to have it be on about six out of every twenty four hours. Surprisingly, our electric bill this December was significantly higher than last December, and this is about the only thing different about our energy consumption. So, that experiment seemed to have failed, and then the timer on the second heater failed only ten weeks after we purchased it, so I took it back to where I bought it and decided to take a credit instead of a replacemet. I still love having the one in the bedroom for those cold winter nights though.

Honest reviews on DeLonghi TRD0715T Safeheat 1500W Portable Oil-Filled Radiator

I've had an old Delonghi oil-filled space heater for 15 years or more. It had a recall on the control panel. The last few years it has been leaking oil on high setting. So I searched and decided on the newest version of the old Delonghi.

This is a good product with easy control and a clever timer feature (took me a while to figure out, though NOT obvious, and I'm reasonably bright and handy!).

Only complaint, and it is fairly serious: when new, it stinks when run on high setting, which is only 1500 watts, after all.

There was a paper in the packing that said to expect some off-gassing at first. Well, I've run the thing for 5 days on high heat and it still smells toxic when running on high heat. The paint finish gives off some sort of fumes for days and days. I still cannot stand to run it on the high setting indoors at all. It really smells bad like curing oil-based paint.

It really stinks! I've been running it in the basement and it still is not nearly acceptable for indoor use.

I trust I will eventually be able to use it in an actual room. I'll give it five more days of blasting away. I may have to send it back. It is pretty heavy, though; I'd lose a lot of money on the deal from shipping costs.

The unit caught fire last night. It looked to be a short inside the front panel that caused the fire. Fortunately we had not fallen asleep yet and were able to unplug it and put out the fire.

We were going on vacation and were going to be driving for two days. Of course one of the kids was put on antibiotics that had to be refrigerated several days before we were scheduled to leave! I bought this refrigerator and it worked PERFECTLY! Just what we needed to keep his meds cold and safe! We were also able to fit some yogurts and cheese sticks in there too!

The Rally 7285 12V cooler/warmer, bought @ amazon.com, is small enough to fit into my Prius, but does a super job keeping my insulin, my soft-drinks and lunch food cool and safe over a 2500 mile trip. Now I use it to keep grocery items cool in our Texas Summer heat and to bring my insulin home safely. Just great.....

In Michigan, I use this heater during the fall and winter months to blast a bit of heat into a 6X7 bathroom in those wee hours when the temp in the house is btw 66 & 68 degrees. It warms the air rapidly and quickly mitigates the cold chill.

This lightweight heater is easily transported and has an easy hand grip on top. This will be my third winter with it. I use it daily up to 4 hours.

The noise of the unit can get to you if you have it on while reading or relaxing. I have forgotten about it and the unit, coming on at night, has awakened me.

I have also used it to warm a 14X12 space, but there are other units better suited to warm larger spaces that won't dry out the air. Like the Holmes HQH308 or the Delonghi EW750L.

I purchased this unit off season -so I got an extraordinary dealanother reason I like it so much.

I also have the Holmes HFH2986-U Whisper Quiet Power Heater. The thermostat has never worked on the unit -only the continuous HI / LO setting. I don't like this as well. This unit is cumbersome, fat and not easy to grip to pick up and transport to another space.

I would recommend the Holmes HFH442 if needed to quickly heat small areas quickly.

I was recommended to always purchase a holmes heater with a thermostate 10 years ago. Well, they finally quit on me. I couldn't find them like this one in any store. It's great to use if you don't feel like burning the fireplace. It's safe around my home especially with the ALCI.It knocks the chill out of the air almost immediately depending on what you set the thermostate on!These heaters are the best> I know because I have tried others. Always get one with a thermostate. It's like the central heat in the home. It cuts off automatically when reach that temp and comes back on! I love my heater!Holmes Heater Fan With ALCI

I have owned 3 of these heaters. They last about 2 years and effectively heat about 800 sq ft. The company has great customer service. I set the thermostat and leave it alone. My house is 1200 sq ft, open rambler. The sole source of heat was propane, which is expensive. The propane stove is set to come on when the temp in the house drops down to 64, which is at night. The heater is in the living room and keeps the house at 68 during the day when I'm gone. When I'm home I set it to 70. Do not set the Comfort Zone at the economy mode as it will run none stop. Set it at the middle mode and then it will be energy efficient and turn off when it reaches 1 degree above the setting and will turn on when it falls 1 degree below the setting. The Comfort Zone is more efficient and costs less to run then my friend's Edenpure Amish heater that cost twice as much. It keeps about 800 sq feet warm, the outer areas are cooler. I don't remember exactly what the cost per hour is but it isn't much. The power is on 24/7 from about Oct through April and costs about $20 a month compared to a tank of propane at an average of $500 a month. Before the Comfort Zone I was having the propane tank filled every month from Oct through April. $20 vs. $500, it is well worth the savings. I have a separate Comfort Zone in my sunroom which isn't heated. It comes on in the late evening and keeps the sunroom at 60 otherwise it drops to 44. I've had black, walnut, and cherry they all work the same. I recommend them to all my friends. The one drawback is while they keep the house at a consistent temp, they do not permeate the heat like propane does. Again $20 vs. $500, it is well worth the savings. Read the manual and clean it the way it says to so it keeps running efficiently. I live in the Pacific NW. Hope this helps.

This machine does the job, however, it takes white noise and raises it to an all new level of annoying. I suppose we'll get used to it, however, if you are looking for something you can't hear, this humidifier isn't for you. I know most of them are considered loud, but I have had at least 4 models over the years and the VICKS one we have in another room is far quieter, although quiet isn't the word I would use to describe it. I guess you would have to deal with the noise with any machine, but this one is louder than most.

I'm really scientific about stuff and it was no different when it came down to finding something to add more humidity to the air in my townhouse. I looked at three main options, the vaporizing or misting humidifiers, the filter/evaporation type humidifiers, and the types you install in your central air conditioning system.

I owned a couple vaporizing or misting humidifiers. I did not find them to be the best because they will pump water vapor into the air constantly with no regulation. Therefore you can easily get too much humidity. Also, they vaporize whatever impurities are in the water so those are also put into the air. Because the Jarden unit and similar types draw air over a wet filter and require evaporation to occur, as the humidity level rises less and less evaporation will take place. So they kind of self regulate. This Jarden unit has a hygrometer type sensor in it though, so you can set the humididty level. I tested the accuracy with an external calibrated hygrometer and it was fairly accurate.

The last type of humidifier is the type that installs in your home central air system. These are expensive and much more difficult to install and for those reasons I did not go that route.

I also bought this from Jarden. Since it's getting colder and winter time's around the corner, turning the heat on makes my nostrils and mouth really dry. So, I wanted a humidifier to help me out! I've been using mine for 5 days now and I love it!

Pros:

-$16

-I can feel it working-the cool mist

-The water definitely goes downso I know it's working...

I like the choice of settings: low and high, and % of moisture/humidity

Cons

-bit loud, but it's fine on a low setting. I watch TV before going to bed anyway, and I dont really hear it.

But Im used to it now,

Honest reviews on Jarden Consumer Heater SCM1866-UM Sunbeam Cool Mist Humidifier

I bought this unit from JardenStore when it was on sale. After two weeks use, this unit is now collecting dusts in my basement. It works OK on blowing mist, but WAY too noisy even at lowest speed setting. And worse, if you set it to run at automatic mode to maintain a humidity, it comes on and off in every tens of seconds bad design I would say.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Jarden Consumer Heater SCM1866-UM Sunbeam Cool Mist Humidifier

This product can run for many hours even on the highest setting on one tank of water. It senses the humidity level, and you can either set it to the humidity level you would like and the speed you would like or set it to run continuously on the speed you would like. It really does a great job of moisturizing a pretty impressive size area, like say 150-200 sf would be my estimate, though high ceilings make it harder of course. As far as noise is concerned, it sounds like a fan because there is a fan in it, of course. You just aren't going to get anything that doesn't have the fan sound unless it uses heat to humidify. This works by running a fan over a wet filter, it's very energy efficient. But having 3 different speeds is very helpful, because the low and medium settings are pretty quiet. I also like the holding tank. It is sturdy and large. You can also fill it while the machine is running since there is a reservoir of water in the bottom. I bought this humidifier because my guitar needed some moisture, but I realized that my skin needed it too! It makes a cold winter much more bearable when there is some moisture in the air at home, and moisture can even prevent colds. Now I'm using it in Arizona for the opposite weather phenomenon.

Love this coffee maker. Great that it makes 14 cups of delicious coffee. I don't use the scoop it came with, makes weak coffee. Be careful if you select the 1-4 cup brew and medium heat setting the coffee maker will boil your coffee. I suggest making at least 6 cups or transferring your coffee to a carafe immediately.

I was looking for a SAFE heater for under my desk at home. This heater seemed to have it all: digital thermostat, hi/lo settings, oscillates, tip-over protection, overheat protection, timer and more...

The only annoying thing is this heater doesn't remember ANY of its settings. Every time you turn it on you have to set the temperature, hi/low, oscillation... it should just remember these settings.

Overall a great product that I feel safe having running under my desk at home... just one little annoyance.

We have used this Honeywell heater in our office at work for 3 winters now. It effectively heats 2 offices. We are located in SW Florida so only have to use it about 6 weeks a year. So far it has worked great for us. I just ordered one for my house. When tipped over, this heater shuts off long before it hits the floor. It has great safety features. I have 2 big dogs in my house and do not foresee a problem using this heater. Most of the heater stays cool to the touch. The screen area gets hot but i can hold my hand on it without it burning. I am so glad to have this heater.

Best Deals on Honeywell 1500W Oscillating Ceramic Heater, 9-3/8 x 9-1/2 x 22-3/4

The Honeywell HZ-3750WP digital ceramic heater is a cheezy bit of silliness. Having lived with a cold bathroom for many years and worn out many small electric heaters, I can say from experience that this model is not worth the trouble. It irritates me that heater manufacturers rarely mention the fact that their heaters have a fan. A fan is a complete waste of money for a bathroom heater. Like most other heaters of this type, the fan is not mentioned anywhere; not on the box, not in the Amazon description. The important thing is to heat you, not the room. Air circulation is not all that important.

So, what is the best small room heater design? Your best bet is a quartz or carbon rod heater with no fan. This design is much like standing in front of a nice warm fire. All of the electricity goes into the heat. The fan does almost nothing and is just a waste of wattage. Standing in front of a pure radiant heater, even if the rest of the room is cold, you are toasty warm. I do believe the consumer product rating organizations agree with me on this.

The important thing is to heat you, not the room. This little bummer is only moderately effective in reaching that goal.

We purchased the Frigidaire FRA083PT1, because loading our large air conditioner

into the window was becoming too difficult. We've been quite pleased with it.

It is 90 deg out and a cool 77 deg inside cooling 600 sq ft. We keep the other

rooms closed off. I've also had the door of my office open for a while and it quickly cooled that space as well. The only thing I don't like is its large size and the fact that

the window attachment piece was too large for the 23" wide window we wanted to put it in and had

to cut the plastic piece down to fit.

Overall, this was a great purchase. The unit is not that large, about the size of a large kitchen garbage can, and cooled a 10x10 foot room from 85 degrees to 77 in an hour. It is definitely much quieter than any window unit I've used. Once it gets to your set temperature, it maintains it with a minimum of noise.

The biggest negative is the space needed behind the unit to run the exhaust duct to the window. For some reason, the output is at the bottom so you have to give enough room for the duct to double back and that requires about another foot of space between the window and the AC itself.

Although it's heavy, the casters make it easy to move if needed. Installation was quite easy, with very little assembly required.

Lots of great features, including fan only, heat, and dehumidify, and the remote is handy and easy to use.

I was skeptical about buying my first portable AC but am about to order a second one to replace our living room window unit.

Best Deals on Frigidaire FRA093PT1 9,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote

I've had the item for less than two weeks. As I live in an area that needs dehumidifiers more often than A/C, I wanted a combo unit that was easy to pull out and put to work for especially hot, humid weeks and visitors, to supplement my basement dehumidifier. Knowing portable A/C units require frequent pan changes or drain hoses, I bought this item based on limited local availability of portable 9000BTU units. Out of the box, it worked fine. I was badly annoyed to find out that the hose drain plug is cheap, poorly made/leaky plastic, and, despite being located half way up the unit (about knee high), the entire unit had to be elevated 18" to keep the hose "below the unit", and level, per the instructions. Awkward and unsightly as this setup was in my dining room, it worked effectively, both dehydrating and cooling well. Not needing it for the rest of the week, I packed up the attachments, detached and coiled the hose, and pushed them all against the wall. The next time I set the system up, the hose leaked at the hose connection (flooding the floor) and was VERY easily overtightened, popping almost entirely out of the hose and leaking badly. After checking the hose seal & threads, I wiggled and shifted the hose and tightened it to the "sweet spot" where it was neither overtightened or leaky, I taped the hose to the wall to keep it from shifting to maintain the seal. Finally, it did not leak, but now, it would only drain from the pan in the bottom, and would stop every hour to have the pan emptied, so I disconnected the hose, and took it out to drain and check it for clogs/kinks nothing, worked fine, all clear. Hooked it back up to similar effect. There is nothing in the manual about this problem, no answers online, despite many complaints from similar Frigidaire products, and customer service has nothing to offer beyond "take it back". At 80 pounds dry, more now that it's wet, my answer was "really???" I paid twice as much as I did for my last unit, which was 1 size smaller and had similar qualities.

The exhaust hose was also a nightmare. I had to tightly safety-wire the hose cap to the window fixture to keep it from backing out, and the rigidity of the hose kept forcing the window bracket out of alignment in the window, even over shifts as small as a centimeter. Also note: the hose doesn't fit in the storage spot with the caps on, so you have to screw& unscrew the caps every time you use it.

By the time I was done, the elegant design on the box was lost in extensive jerry-rigging. There are a lot of crappy models out there, so as an educated consumer, I'm used to being disappointed and making due but this is ridiculous. I wasted 8 hours of my life troubleshooting this. It's not worth the effort. Buy another brand or just save your money for something worthy.

Honest reviews on Frigidaire FRA093PT1 9,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote

The Frigidaire FRA093PT1 runs very quite and the wheels make it very easy to move from room to room. When the compressor starts up, there is a little noise as to be expected. As long as the unit is on a level surface there is not to much noise. Shipping was a promised and it arrived in good shape and on time.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Frigidaire FRA093PT1 9,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote

I bought the FRA 093PT1 earlier this summer (2012). I bought it for my porch which is mostly windows and faces west, so I bought a unit a couple thousand BTUs more than considered necessary. All the windows are vertical and I knew the window kit that came with the unit wouldn't work, but I just cut a piece of plywood to fit the window opening and put a sheet metal collar in it (I think 6 inch) and duct-taped the AC hose to the opening. It looks ok. The only thing I need to remember is to crank open the window before turning the unit on. The first couple of days I had a lot of condensation, but once the air in the room was 'conditioned' I didn't need to empty the bucket more than a couple of times a week. Yes, it's a little louder than a window unit, but it just becomes white noise for me as I mostly read and study on the porch. If it continues as it has this summer for the next 3 or 4 years I'd be happy to give it 5 stars.

This heater has a huge pair of shoes to fill, and frankly, I doubt it will be able to measure up. My first portable heater was a Tatung ceramic heater, a cube about 8 inches per side with similar wattage to the Soleil. Both heaters have fan-only/low/high operation with 1500W maximum (the Tatung might have been only 1200W...can't quite remember, and the Soleil actually has the reostat-type temperature/thermostat control as well).

My Tatung was in constant use during the cold months and it lasted 17 years of absolutely maintenance-free operation...UNBELIEVABLE!

I am all but positive that the Tatung was made in Taiwan. The Soleil is marked Made In China. And given my experience with Chinese electronics I would NEVER have purchased it if it weren't for the fact that I was in a bind. When I went to buy an alarm clock, I had to buy THREE before I found one that functioned straight out of the box. And there are a lot of goofy things I see in Chinese made products the dish rack where the bowls won't stand up, the socks that are so tight that they strangle your feet...don't even get me started about the rest of it. It's like they are playing craps with the specs and measurements. It's extremely irritating to have to deal with this type of thing. And people in the States are not aware of the fact that, in Europe, they get well-made German engineered products...it's we here in the States that get the crap from newbie engineers in China. That is just the reality of things.

Well, all that being said, this Soleil heater gives a very good first impression. The case itself seems solid. I like the brushed metal look and feel. The controls feel tough and they click in a sturdy way when engaged. Also, I must say, it is very nice to have a heavy-gauge power cord for once I haven't felt any heat in the cord, even after several hours of use. Ah soooooo, Thank you, Soleil! I am using it in a somewhat larger room than many might, so I cannot say how well the thermostat feature works (When I use heaters and air conditioners I usually like to max the output from what I hear they operate more efficiently in those conditions).

How did farmers use their milk house heaters? Not sure. Maybe they hung them up, but I am surprised that there aren't some optional plastic feet like your box fans come with, because this thing likes to tip over. But the good thing is that the auto shut-off is very sensitive. This thing shuts down if it tilts just an inch or two in any direction, so I suppose that is a good thing.

I haven't owned this for long, but I already have developed some confidence in this little box. But for now I am keeping my receipt anyway.

I looked around for a U.S. made milk house heater but to no avail. If anybody knows of one, please let me know. So I bought one of these. So far, works fine. But I also bought another brand, same style which I like just as a backup. Why? Because I know that this heater from RED China will not last. and maybe buying two of them is just what the greedy business types who have exported our jobs to RED China want. At any rate, I can tell you that for now it works fine. Years back, I had a U.S. made model that probably lasted 20 years. I don't expect that of this one.

By the way, for all of you who wonder what a milk house heater is, it is used to warm up the milk houses or milking parlors ---the place where the dairy cows are milked. It is not used to heat up the whole barn, that would be impossible for it to do.
