Like the other reviewer, about three months after installation, we found that our white towels had brown burn marks from where they made contact with the rail. The on/off switch stopped working about six months after installation and the unit now gets too hot for it to be safely used. It has become an expensive towel rack. When contacted, manufacturer acknowledged the two year warranty but suggested we get a rheostat to control the heat level upon reinstallation of the replacement unit, which suggested that they weren't confident that it was an isolated incident. I don't know about you, but if a product works as it is supposed to, why would you suggest the purchase of what amounts to a "safety switch?" In fairness, it looks good on the wall.

I liked the look and the size of the towel warmer and how easy it was to assemble and mount on the wall. I left a dry towel on the warmer for 20 minutes and I was a little disappointed by the lack of heat in the towel for the price. I am not sure if there is a limit to how much heat you can add before you hit a "danger zone" but the towel never made it to that point.not even close. Without having another one to compare I gave this one 3 stars...-2 for lack of higher heat to suit me.

The warmer heates to 145 degrees and keeps multiple towels warm at all times. Shipment was made in a timely manner.

Honest reviews on Pearl 8 Bar Wall Mount Electric Towel Warmer Finish: Bright

I love having warm towels after each shower, even on warm days. What I liked about this product is that it heats fast, and is very hot. I picked this one in particular because it is actual chrome, unlike others I've seen at local stores where it is just painted to look like brushed silver or chrome but it is actually plastic or something else. It also works like a radiator (yes, it will warm up the room too like an oil or water filled radiator). I like that silent, quiet heat that softly warms up the bathroom. The cons: it burns. I accidentally touched it with the sensitive skin of the wrist to get a pretty bad burn, still have the mark 3 months later. It also burns/marks the towels so I can't keep them for too long or avoid using this with your fancy favorite ones, and I would not use it for drying clothing at all (it has no thermostat just on or off but you can purchase one separately I just know that i personally would not use it other than on its highest setting). Another issue is getting the towels wrapped around each bar for maximum exposure to the heat (i.e., making them warmer), I would avoid doing it while the warmer has been on for a while as it will burn, but it helps make the towels warmer. But overall, I like that it works. If it was not hot it would not heat the towels enough.

This towel warmer worked fabulous for about one year then it just stopped heating up. Contacted the manufacturer and they said it's the internal wiring and it can't be fixed. Now I have a large, bulky towel rack on my wall that doesn't heat up. very frustrating and I will never purchase this brand again! What a waste!

I am a 52 year old widow with 4 grown children, and I've always had at least one dog; now with the kids gone I have 3 small dogs. This is the third carpet cleaner I've purchased over 15 years. The first was a Hoover, and though I thought it worked fine, advances over the years have made big improvements both in the machines' ability to clean, and their design.

My second machine was the old version of this machine, which was 5 years old, and still working, but one of the kids borrowed it, and when I stressed the importance of cleaning after use, she went nuts and disassembled the thing to clean it (totally unnesessary), and it came back not working well. Obvious user problem, not the machine's fault.

So, I ordered the 9400 Select, which arrived promptly from Amazon, quickly assembled it, and went to work in the bedroom. With 3 dogs, I clean the carpet every 3 months. My dogs are potty trained, but they are dogs, after all, and unlike me they can't remove dirty shoes when they enter the house. Amazing what 12 little feet can track in to a carpet! So, between my normal use, and the dogs, I am always looking for the best machine.

I am going to post some pictures of the things mentioned, if this site allows... By the way, the room I did first and will base these comments on is a 12x15 foot bedroom, with very light colored carpeting. Some reviewers expressed frustration with the fuzzballs that can get left behind. Yes, this machine does that. It is old carpet, dog fur, and dirt. It is confined, slightly damp, and picks up easily. In this room there were maybe 12 chunks of this stuff, which were picked up as I went along. Not slimy, didn't require toweling or gloves.

Next, one reviewer said the machine leaks dirty water spots all over. Again, the machine at the end of a pull does leave some water spots. As soon as you go over the pull again, they are sucked up, leaving no spots in the wake. When I am changing the dirty water tank and refilling the bladder, I always throw a towel under the machine for the few minutes I am away. This is a water/detergent based machine; of course some excess might drip out when it is stationary. All of my machines did this, so I don't even think of it as unusual.

As for not knowing when the bladder is empty and needs refilling, I did not hear the "pop" some reviewers did, but I didn't need to stop and check the level, either. I just paid attention when pulling the trigger for the cleaning mode, and if nothing was being sucked up when trigger is released and it is in suction mode, which one can easily see through the clear design, I know there is nothing going out, and it's time to throw out the old water and refill the bladder. In this room, I take an hour or so to clean it properly. People who want a 10 minute clean are going to get exactly that. It takes months, sometimes years for carpeting to get dirty, but some folks want it to be cleaned in 10 minutes. I just don't get that. The trick is that though this is a very easy machine to use, the key is in going SLOWLY, and allowing the machine to do what it was designed to do. Get the fibers wet/soapy; then let the brushes get down deep, suck up the slop the machine cleaned, then turn the dial to rinse only (I always do this, though many don't, because in my opinion detergent residue left behind becomes a magnet of sorts for dirt once the carpet is dry). In any case, to do the job right, this room took me about an hour. Time well spent, with excellent results. Cleanup is a breeze. Take the bladder/ takeup container, empty it, then pour water through the take up holder to get any remaining dirty water out. This takes all of about 1 minute.

If my trend of getting a new cleaner about every 5 years continues, and in that time I use the machine 20 times, this is a bargain.

I am thrilled with the results this machine gives, and highly recommend it. I guess the only other issue I could address is the storage, and I do understand that it is slightly bulkier than a traditioner vaccuum cleaner, and if one doesn't have a spare closet it could be a problem. In this house, it just rests under the basement staircase, ready and waiting to be called into action again.

I have been through the ringer with carpet cleaners and stain removers. We have a dog that vomits about once a week. Unfortunatley, he does not do this on our wood floor, which comprises most of our house, but rather he prefers to stain our carpet. I think it is the law with him.

Anyways, I had no luck with the SpotBot I purchased so I was a little reluctant to try another Bissell Product. I saw the good ratings for the 9400 and figured I would give it a shot.

It seems to have everything one could need on a steam cleaner and it even includes Scotchgard Protection. I tried the Bissell on a tough stain that had set in for a couple of months. Nothing could get it out not even the Rug Doctor from the supermarket.

At first the Bissell did not totally get it out. So I tried it again with the hottest water I could get and heated the water with the built-in heater. Sure enough it got it out like a charm. I think Chem-Dry will have to find another customer now!

Steam cleaners are kind of a pain to use with all the filling of tanks and solutions and they usually soak your carpet. But I finally found something that can get up just about any stain and leave my carpet clean as a whistle. We have a winner!

I've been wanting to steam clean our carpets in our house for a number of years now. We had them professionally cleaned before moving in (8 1/2 years ago!!). Three kids, a dog, and a cat later have reduced our carpets to what I thought, was their last legs. The carpets are probably 12 years old (they were not new when we moved in, I am guessing here).

We have carpeting in our kitchen, our kitchen table rests on the carpet. You can imagine how dirty they look(ed) after years of spilled milk, cereal, wine, ketchup, etc... We had planned on ripping them up and putting in tile or Pergo in the next few years.

So this past week our dog gets sick and really puts me over the edge here. I decide to rent one of those "Rug Doctors" at the grocery store. However, I realize that it will take days for me to clean all the carpets and I really don't want to have to shuttle the Rug Doctor back and forth to the grocery store (about 15 20 mins away). On a whim, I check out the reviews on Amazon and find that the Bissell 9400 is the real deal. There is even a reviewer mentioning his sick dog.

So I decide to go with the Bissell.

It was very well packaged, little boxes for all the accessories (there are a ton of them). There is even a mesh bag full of various cleaners (wish I knew that before I bought $60 worth of cleaners!!). The Bissell goes together in about 10 minutes (including the time it took to locate my screwdriver).

I used the Bissell "Pet Strength" cleaner, taking two bottles to do two rooms (wayyy more than is required, but these were dirty carpets!!).

It is a slow process, you have to push the cleaner forward, depressing the trigger. Move slowly, then pull back with the trigger depressed. A few passes more will remove the moisture.

I didn't count the number of times I had to empty the resovoir and fill the water & cleaner. It certainly was a breeze to do.

This first pass took me some 3 hours to do, but was well worth it. I am willing to bet that this will go faster now that they have been recently cleaned!

I noticed a huge difference before they even dried!! The carpets were no longer soiled, almost all the food stains had been removed, the nap was much fluffier. I pulled out about a large handfull of cat/dog/human hair that the brushes spit up( This is normal and nothing to worry about, its much better in the trash than ground back into the carpet).

Once they dried (overnight) and after a pass with our Kirby, they looked incredible!!

My daughter walked barefoot on the cleaned carpet and on one in our family room (that is scheduled for next week). She said the clean one was a lot more cushier.

When I walk in the house now, I am greeted by a nice scent (there is a scent in the pet-strength cleaner) and a very clean-looking carpet!

I intend to clean our furniture as well as the rest of all the carpets. I'm beginning to believe that this will help with our allergies too....

If you are on the fence about this, go for it! You will not be sorry.

Oh, I mentioned above and will restate it. Do NOT use this like a vacuum cleaner, pushing and pulling at a fast clip. Go slow!! You will reap the benefits..

Update: 8 Apr 2006

Still very happy that we got this. Last weekend I completed the cleaning of all the original carpets in our home. I had to do all of our Master Bedroom in 3 passes (moved furniture around) because the pets loved to sleep under the bed, beside the dresser, etc). Before last weekend, the only "Original Carpet" uncleaned was the Master BR. The difference in smell when walking into the Bedroom was noticeable. (Before cleaning). We never noticed the pet odor because we were 'used' to it throughout the house. Once I cleaned the rest of the house, the odor in the remaining room stood out.

After cleaning the Bedroom, I've noticed a very signifigant impact (for the better) on my allergies. Cleaning the carpets under the bed where we sleep made a huge difference.

On another note, I cleaned a pet stain (from where our dog was sick) in my daughter's room. The carpet in there is only 6 months old. I couldn't believe the hair it picked up! I originally thought I could bypass all the new carpeting, but am in the process of cleaning all the new carpeting too!

OK, in case you haven't guessed it... This was by far the best $250 I've ever spent!

Honest reviews on BISSELL ProHeat 2X Select Upright Deep Carpet Cleaner, 9400M

I didn't think a cheap, inexpensive, household extractor would do a good job, but I was wrong. It does a great job. The spinning brissles do the trick, they really spin fast. It scrubs stains out better than a washing machine can get stains out from clothing. My friend uses this thing for house cleaning and she has been told many times that she does a better job than the carpet cleaning companies around our area. Reviewers mentioned the exhause being a design flaw because it breathes into the carpet. It is not a flaw, the warm air assists in drying the carpet. The turbo paw is fairly well built, it doesn't spin as quickly as the main brissles but it does much better than just a regular scrubber. I think peoples' expectations of the turbo paw are set high after seeing the floor extractor in action. I thinks it's great esspecially for $225. Can't top it.

ONE TIP: After shampooing, you may want to go over the carpet one final time to get any excess water from the carpet, turn your heater OFF. The heater draws from the 12 amp motor which steals power from the sucking mechanism.

I don't normally write reviews but I was compelled to say something about this one! We purchased the 9400 off of Ebay and I must say, it is absolutely amazing! I've used a few differant kinds of carpet shampooers (including a rug doctor and a few differant Hoover models) and this one just blows them all out of the water! It's bought new life to our carpets, it even got out old koolaide and grease stains out of our dining room. Our carpets look and feel brand new, and with two young kids and a dog, it's a great thing to have around. Honestly, even if you think your going to have to replace your carpets, try this out first, you might be surprized at what it can do! I'm not normally about dropping so much money on any one thing, but it's alot better than having to buy new carpeting in a few years! It's really easy to use, I LOVE the tank in tank thing b/c there's only one thing you have to take to the sink. The two rows of brushes leave your carpets freshly groomed, and can really bring all of the dog hair up and out of the floor. It does spit it out in hair balls, but it's supposed to do that so it doesn't clog up the machine. All of the tools work great except for the turbo brush, which is just kinda a joke. If you want to save some $$ though, try looking for the 9200 on Ebay and buy any extra tools you really need off of the bissell website. I was lucky enough to find the 9400 for $70, just check it out first, you never know!

As for some of the problems other people have had... on ours the brushes do stop moving when it is upright so we can use the tools, but because on some other ones the brushes don't stop, be sure to check that when you get it. Also, I recomend following the directions on the review from the engineer and drill a couple of holes in the back for the exaust. We noticed that it was getting pretty hot after use, so we decided to do this and it helped increase the suction and it doesn't get hot anymore. Maybe this is why some people's machines poop out after only a few years, I imagine the motor would eventually burn out from overheating. It really is stupid that they put the exaust on the bottom of the machine, air can't really escape because it's right against the carpet. Just be carefull not to drill into something you're not supposed to!!!!! We only needed to carve out a couple holes about an inch above the existing exaust vents. I know some people have had a problem with suction, for us it exstracts about 70-80% of the dirty water, which is what is expected according to the bissell website. Also, if you have any problems, check out their troubleshooting page, there's some good suggestions on there that could really help you out or at least narrow down the problem.

Everything said here, it's worth it's weight in gold!! Even if you have some of the problems that some others have had, they are repairable and it's worth the effort to fix because it works soooo great!!! Hope this helps!

This is exactly what I was looking for to stack wood. It is all metal, unlike the ones where you have to use 2x4s under it which will rot, and very sturdy. Love it!

Just as described by vendor...just what I needed to supply wood for a small fireplace..easy to assemble...doesn't take up a lot of space.

Honest reviews on Panacea 15201 4-Foot Traditional Log Rack

This rack worked out great for me. It is actually sturdier than I imagined it would be. Plus, it's REALLY easy to assemble. I figured there would be some bolts to hold the sides to the base (and hoped/prayed that they were in the box), but that wasn't the case at all. It comes in three sections. You just slide the side pieces over the up-facing tubes on the base section and push them down. It wasn't really necessary, but a few taps with the rubber mallet made it extra stable. No bolts at all to worry with.

I also like the fact that if it was ever necessary, this could be easily disassembled and hung from brackets inside the shed for out of the way storage.

I have owned this heater for at least 4 years now and I love it! The heater adjusts so you can blow the air toward your feet, your head, wherever you wish. I have taken this one camping with me and used it in the tent to make fall camping more comfortable. The size is nice and compact so it doesn't take much space.

I purchased one of these small TPI 178 TMC heaters a few years back and I was honestly never much impressed with it. While it was quiet, it hardly had any air or heat output even when run on max fan and max heating. However, I found a perfect application for it, and that was my above-ground well house. Since it is a small 8 ft x 10 ft well-insulated outbuilding, I actually couldn't have a larger output heater in it during the winter months without it putting too much heat out for the small space. Later, I installed a thermostatically-controlled small baseboard heater in my well house and the TPI heater didn't see a lot of regular use after that (as I had a number of other, better heaters).

Then, when I was recently using it, the black plastic swivel mount housing fractured in half, which completely separated the heater unit from its base, which rendered the heater non-operational. I wrote to TPI to see if I could purchase a replacement plastic swivel mount, but as I surmised before hand, they essentially had no parts for the heater as it was imported with no parts support. After some back and forth, I am pleased to report that TPI stood behind the heater (which was LONG out of warranty), and they shipped me a completely new heater at no charge (even for the shipping). I have to say that I was very impressed with TPI for doing this in an era where customer service can be rather poor and companies' standing behind their products has become something of the exception rather than the rule.

As a bonus, the new TPI 178 TMC heater put out far more heat and fan power than the old one ever did. Based on this, I can in fact recommend this little heater and especially TPI as a company.

I had this heater for several months under my desk now, and I love it. It is usually working on keeping my toes warm, but once its setting "fan only" saved my iPhone that was dropped into water (iPhone recovered after a day of drying and works fine). I don't keep it running all the time, but it heats up in a matter of seconds, so a couple of minutes is enough to get warm. I don't think I would like it on the entire day because I can still hear the fan even though it is not that loud as far as fan forced heaters go.

I ordered this from another source knowing that it did not come with the actual fireplace insert. Then I ordered the 18EF023GRA insert from Amazon (instead of the insert listed in Amazon's description) which worked great in this and is definitely a step up from the one listed to get and even at a lower price! I was very impressed with the quality of this stand and how sturdy it was. This is a substantial piece of furniture that looks great and will do the job nicely. The fireplace just really sets it off into something special. Just take your time assembling it from the nicely packed box using the very clear instructions, and I think you will also be pleased with the end result.

Living in a 1920's house has it's drawbacks. One of them being icy breezes when its below zero outside. I have modern central heat but why heat up the whole town? I did already have a sappy 1500w convection heater but all it did was warm one side of my ankle while drying out my eyes with it's noisy fan. So I shopped around for an infared heater. I choose this one because it a) oscillates, b) is silent, c) is 2 feet tall. I needed something that would go under my computer desk and keep my whole side warm, not just my ankles. I admit this does the job nicely. Crank it to 800w to heat up the surroundings (about a half hour) then turn it down to 400w for the rest of the night. I had it a few nights now with temps outside dipping into the low 30's.

Pros:

It's like an electric fireplace. Toasty!

It's cheap to buy and run.

It is totally silent.

It is tall, and with the oscillation going it will heat you from head to toe without burning you.

Cons:

It's lights on high are about as bright as a 60w bulb, and on low about a 40w bulb. Granted it is a more pleasant warm sunset color light but it is very bright. You could never use this openly in a room facing you. It has to go under a desk, or at least facing a wall. You literally can't look into it more than a few seconds without going blind. This is why I gave it 4 stars.

It's very light and fragile feeling. Don't know how many years of use it will survive. I think if it is knocked over a few times it will break. However I can't ding it for that until it actually does break. I just spilled a drink on it and it is still going lol.

Over all a good investment if you can place it in such a way as to not become blinded by it. :)

I bought this heater because it is energy efficient with two heating levels of 400 watts and 800 watts--significantly lower than most space heaters. I bought it to replace an older 1500 watt space heater that I used in my sunroom in December which significantly raised my monthly electric bill and I mean 4 times higher (I have gas heat). I am hoping my January electric bill will return to a much lower level with the use of this comfort zone flat panel halogen heater. I will need to wait until the bill arrives to see if this will be the case. There is no blower on this heater altho it does radiate heat to the immediate area. It does not heat up the entire room and this room is the size of a small bedroom but it does heat the space around me enough to use the sunroom for eating breakfast, lunch or reading. The unit shuts off if it is moved even slightly--a good safety feature. It does have two very bright heating elements which my pets do not like and therefore they keep their distance (a good thing). The casing does get warm to the touch but not overly hot. I only use this heater while I am in the room--approximately two hours a day. It may take longer time to heat up the entire area of a small room however I do not believe it was designed for whole room heating.

We have had Halogen heaters before and like the heat they put out. This one does a nice job, burt we have recently noticed that if it stays on for long periods of time there must be a overheat switch on it, because it will cut itself off. We wait a little bit of time, unplug it, then plug it back in, and it goes again just like normal. Overall we like it.

I am a conservation analyst for a living and I bought this to save on heating costs. In my apartment I only have baseboard heat. The heat from this unit is instant and a soothing, fireplace type of warmth. After one month of using this heater to supplement my baseboard my electric bill dropped in half. I now recommend this product to my clients.

Last year I bought a small radiant heater for my bedroom, just something to keep my face warm and I really loved it. This year I wanted something bigger to keep me warm in the living room and it's perfect. It's heat is very nice, like having a moveable fireplace. It's also lights like a fireplace, that warm glow, without the flicker. So if you want this for a bedroom at night, you may want something different.

I've had my VH2 for several years -it's always reliable and always great at quickly warming up a room in my drafty old house. This is a forced air / fan aided heater, so it's not a product to sit in front of for instant comfort, like a radiant heater, so consider that in deciding what suits your needs. I swear by them. The second one I bought had the switch go after only a couple of years -it worked great before then, and after it broke the good folks at Vornado took care of the problem with no hassle. These heaters are terrific. The quality is well worth the extra money, and buying something actually made in the US is an added treat.

We own a Vornado floor fan that we use during the summer and purchased this heater about a month ago for our bedroom. We wanted to stop heating the entire house at night to save some money. Well, as has been stated by others, this is not the kind of heater you sit in front of to get warm. We run it on the low setting and it will warm our bedroom by around 5 degrees in about an hour. That is just about perfect. We use a timer to have it come on at 10, then off by midnight. then again at 3, then off at 3:30. then on again at 6 and off at 7. It works. Our room stay warm, not hot.

The heater is not real quiet. After all, it's a fan with a heater element. We actually like the noise in the room. It's smaller than you might think and takes up little floor space. The built-in thermostat works, but we noticed it would sometimes cycle on and off quickly. The external timer solved that problem (we set the thermostat higher).

We would have no issues buying another one. Highly recommend.

This heater is a must have for me. I have three levels to my house and use these heaters (I have 3) constantly. None have needed repair & some are rather old. I find the only negative thing I can say is I have to fight with my cat as to gets to sit closest to the heater! Great buy well worth the cost.

Honest reviews on Vornado Vortex Whole Room Heater

I ordered this heater because of the Vornado name. Have had 7 of their products over the years and was always happy. This one is advertised as a 'whole room heater.' It would hardly heat a small bathroom. Fan wouldn't produce enough air movement so that when standing in front of it one would even notice that it was on.

I hope Vornado goes back to the drawing board on this one. I will continue to believe that they can and do build quality products. This was just not one of them.

The heater heated our living room but also created a breeze that made us colder. I understand the point of the fan part is to circulate the warm air around the room to have an even heat in the room but we didn't like that feature. I read some reviews saying it was loud but it wasn't, it was like white noise, we didn't have to turn the TV volume up. This heater just wasn't for us.

I live in South Dakota, and for those of you who don't knowit can get VERY COLD here. Right now we're having a little "arctic blast" as the weather service calls it and our high temp today was -1 degrees Farenheit, with wind chills 30-40 below. We have a nice, but older 1960's home with old insulation and windows, plus hardwood floors which makes it harder to keep the rooms warm. This heater is a new model for Delonghi, so there weren't any reviews out there when I bought it so I took a chance on it, and I'm glad I did. It kicks out alot of heat, has a programmable thermostat, and has the option of oscillating which spreads the heat around quite well. As far as the loudness goes, yes it is a bit loud for some people, but certainly not even close to a hair dryer!! . But you do get used to it and its great for white noise if you need that to sleep at night. The only thing I dislike about it is that it beeps every time you change a setting, or move it, which is a little annoying. Overall I like this heater VERY much, it puts out alot more heat than our other Delonghithe DCH1030 (smaller, non-oscillating, no remote, not programmable)and even that one is a good heater. We use the DCH4590ER in the evenings after work in the living room while keeping the house thermostat at about 67 degrees. When its time for bed we move it to the bedroom and set the house thermostat set at 62 degrees to save on gas. In the bedroom we set the DCH4590ER's thermostat set at 67, sometimes 66 degrees, and we are very comfortable under our down comforter. We put our Delonghi oil filled heater in the living room at night for the cats. It keeps the chill off the room nicely and keeps the house heat from kicking on as often. The trick to using these heaters is to not expect them to warm up an ice cold room instantly. It won't happen. But if you just want to keep your house thermostat set lower to save on your heat bill, and use these as supplemental heat sources, they are great. I will update this when I get my next months bills and see if these electric heaters saved me any money.

I have an elderly family member with a lower-circulatory problem and limited mobility, so we needed something to heat localized areas of the house to keep her comfortable. This space heater remote controlled, adjustable thermostat filled the requirements perfectly. Unlike other reviewers, I have no problem with the fan noise -it's a small unit and has to "blow" the air -not terribly loud, but noticeable, definitely not a deterrent for us. The added safety feature (turns off when tipped over) works and has saved us from a couple of mishaps (inadvertent bumps with the wheelchair). It works well in relatively small spaces, heats in seconds, and has proven to be very reliable so far. I'm considering one for the home office (for use in the cooler mornings/evenings).

Everything about this heater sounds great: 24 hour timer, digital display, remote etc... But there is one drawback I should have noticed that was omitted from the desciption -The Noise. This tiny heater is about as loud as a personal hair dryer.

A shame it's this loud because it cancels out every other redeeming factor. I returned mine for a refund. 2 stars.

Loved this heater. We used it in our baby's nursery to keep the heat regulated overnight while the rest of the house was cooler. It worked great and we felt safe using it. Then after less than a year of use it just stopped working. No reason for it to have stopped. Very odd. So, that issue was disappointing.

The heater does provide adequate heat (one star for living up to its name), and the tip switch works (one more star for that feature working). Not suitable for quiet environment. Thermostat sucks.

My 10+ year old space heater started to rattle this winter, loud enough to wake me up at night. So I need a replacement. This DeLonghi will not work out. The thermostat control is just inadequate. The unit requires too much manual input. Lowering the thermostat below the desired temp did not turn off the heat. I had to switch modes to turn off the heat, wait for it to cool down, then crank up the thermostat again when I felt a chill. It will turn off by itself when the ambient room temp is above the thermostat setting, but that won't happen until spring.

Smaller nits to pic: I choose this Delonghi because it is the same size and has similar features of my old unit. I expected some wind noise, but it is louder than I am used to. The all-seeing-eye makes a nice night light but not the easiest display to read. The unit BEEPS each time you press the remote. The tone is just about right for a fire alarm, only a little softer. On the topic of fire and space heaters, the tip switch is one of my criteria for choosing this unit, and it works.

Nespresso 3190US Aeroccino Automatic Milk Frother Review

Nespresso 3190US Aeroccino Automatic Milk Frother

Here are the most important things I think prospective buyers should know:

1. The machine does not heat the milk to scalding temperatures. You know how when you get a latte at Starbucks, it burns your mouth at first? Yeah, this doesn't do that. The milk is warmed, but you won't have a hot drink for as long as you would at a coffee shop.

2. Size. This machine is meant to be paired with a single-serve coffee machine. It makes enough milk/foam for a single cappuccino or a single latte. That means 1.5 oz of espresso and 5 or 6 oz. of milk. If you want to make drinks for more than one person at a time, or if you want to make the equivalent of a "Venti" latte, you may need more than one of these or a different machine (Froth Au Lait).

3. Cleanup is EASY. This is one of the most important features, IMO. All you do is rinse it out, wipe the bottom with a sponge, rinse again, and you're done. You can clean it while your Nespresso machine is pouring your espresso shot. For making yourself a cappuccino in the morning, this thing can't be beat when it comes to simplicity, ease, and convenience. You do need to wipe the bottom (of the inside of the container), because as others have said, burned milk can appear on the bottom. This is easy to remove if you let the machine soak or just wipe it immediately.

4. Reliability is this machine's achilles heel. Thankfully, Nespresso has amazing customer service. However, the reliability issues seem to be inherent to the machine's design. When you look at the picture, you should realize that the black bottom is a plastic stand that the stainless container sits on. The bottom of the stainless container is plastic with a metal power jack in the middle that fits into the base. When you clean the unit, you remove it from the base and rinse the inside of the jug/container. You can run water into the stainless jug and rinse it out, but you are not supposed to get water on that bottom plastic area. This is difficult. When you wipe your countertop with a sponge, often streaks of water linger. If you place the container on the counter after it's been wiped, you may have an issue.

Final Thoughts:

My unit has just stopped frothing, and Nespresso says this is because the frothing whisk isn't moving fast enough. Their explanation is that some water may be in and around that plastic base. I've been advised to turn the jug over and let it sit for 48 hours to allow any moisture that may have made it inside to evaporate. If this doesn't work, they'll replace it. I'm not upset, as I read the many experiences already posted here and elsewhere. In fact, the time this malfunction occurred I was thinking to myself how lucky I was to have gotten a machine that works well. Obviously I was wrong, but I still really like this machine. Even if you know how to use a proper steam milk frother, you just can't get this kind of great foam in so little time with so little hassle and cleanup. However, if every few weeks I need to give it a 48 hour time out... I don't know how I'll feel. The Froth Au Lait machine, which I own, is fantastic, but much larger and more difficult to clean as you need a brush of some sort to clean the bottom. There seems no doubt that the Froth Au Lait FAL-W Frothing Unit, White machine is more reliable, but it is not as pretty on the countertop or as easy to clean for a single serving of coffee/espresso. Hence my 3 star review of the Aeroccino. Good machine with some serious flaws. If you have the appropriate expectations going in, and have the money to spend, this machine will make you happy, as long as Nespresso continues their great support.

Update: It appears my machine wasn't broken at all, though I can't explain what's going on. It seems either some kinds/quality of milk don't froth, or else different outlets in my kitchen are giving different amounts of power. I tested this by using my Froth Au Lait, which also only heated the milk without frothing it. Moving the machine to the outlet I had originally used it on, with fresh milk, fixed the issue. I suspect FRESH MILK might be the takeaway. When you get a week into a carton of milk, you might not be able to froth it, even if it seems fine for cereal. Hope this helps someone.

When Aeroccino works, it works great. It is quick and quiet, and produces excellent foam. Clean up is very easy. But, there is something inherently unstable about Aeroccino machines. Since August, I managed to kill three of them and I am not sure why. Part of it is the nature of the machine: because it is constructed like a water kettle, one should not submerge it into water. But because it is designed to heat milk, the manufacturer allows putting it under running water as long as the bottom of the machine remains dry. If you get the bottom wet (and you will), the machine either trips (and heals itself after fully drying) or dies. I suspect, my first two Aeroccinos died such deaths. My third one died today. I frothed milk with it, refilled it and tried again (without cleaning in between) and the machine did not work. I tried again and it worked for 20 seconds and stopped. I tried again a couple hours later and it worked for 10 seconds and stopped. I am not sure why it is so, but I suspect it has to do with the magnetic foaming brushes you must insert into the machine to make it work. If anyone has ideas why this is so, let me know.

On the positive side I keep calling the company and they keep sending me new machines. I really like Aeroccino when it works. But I suspect it will be the good old microwave when I finally run out of warranty.

I have owned several different espresso makers from krups to capresso to nespresso. I have also had a capresso frother which I had to return because it didn't work. While I have enjoyed the coffee, I have always been "frothingly" challengedexcept on the lower end krupsa fact I find mildly interesting. Anyway, this aeroccino is so simple as to make you wonder and the froth is perfect, as is the steamed milk. So far I have not run into the problems of it shorting out and neither has a friend who has also purchased one, but I am glad to know they will replace it. The greatest thing since sliced bread for the consumer who likes gadgets and is willing to pay for them

Honest reviews on Nespresso 3190US Aeroccino Automatic Milk Frother

It looks like we are not alone in our experience with this product. When we first got it we were infatuated with how clean, neat and easy it was. The design was elegant and the frothed milk was fabulous. Then, after about a week of regular use it just quit frothing the milk. Everything still functioned apparently, but no froth. Ever.

I read the manual and saw the year warranty. I figured, there's no way that anyone would warranty a product for a year that breaks so easily. We turned it in for a replacement, and brought the new one home, excited to have gotten rid of the fluke defective product. No such luck.

The replacement neatly and quietly whirs away, without producing any effect but warm, frothless milk.

Oh well.

Williams and Sonoma had better give me my money back.

AMMENDMENT:

Ok, so after significant frustration with this product we struck on a hypothesis. What if it was the change in milk that caused the lack of frothing and not a change in the device?

We switched back to the milk which we were using when the device worked (from a local dairy) and lo and behold! The device worked again just fine; we had delicious frothy milk. So we compared the two milks and the second milk (the one that didn't work) had a preservative in it (a salt of some kind) that was specifically designed to keep the milk fat from separating in hot liquids; in fact it said this right on the carton. After repeated testing our observation appears to be correct and since watching what milk we use, the frother has worked fabulously.

Barring further problems I am prepared to change my rating to four stars. I will keep this review up to date if anything of further note occurs.

I saw this at willamson-sonoma and thought would be nice to have in addition to my machine so I could do coffee while frothing and not have to switch over while the coffee cooled... fantastic quick easy and good. I rinse out the top and use a wet paper towel to clean to avoid getting the bottom wet. and simply let it dry on the rack to be sure. so good am getting one for my neice's anniversary. a bit pricy but worth the ease.
