We did finally purchase these because our Fiestaware plates are so thick, they pull the heat from your food. These heat mats definitely do what they claim, but there are a couple of things that concerned us. First, they DO smell like a car tire when heated. You don't have to have a sensitive nose to get this. The smell of car tires isn't the worst thing, but I don't think it's very appetizing, either. The smell does transfer to the plate until the condensation evaporates, but we did notice that they sometimes leave a film on the plate that doesn't go away with the condensation. Not sure if this is something the silicone secretes, or some kind of other reaction to heat, but I don't want it on my food. We have been able to wipe it off with a dry paper towel and have continued to use the heat mats, despite this nuisance. That said, we certainly do like having warmer food on our plates. I just hope I don't start turning into Lou Ferrigno!

My wife & I love these. It is so simple. Just put on flat plate, stack multiple plates, and put in microwave on high for 30 seconds. The plates get really hot and the edges are plenty cool to touch. It has really saved our food from getting the heat zapped so quickly in the winter, especially for food that doesn't hold its heat very long like eggs and pancakes. But we use it for every hot dinner, even before placing pizza slices on a plate. It really couldn't work any better. They are simply constructed, so I would expect them to last a very long time. Just have a hot pad handy to set the warmer on after you take it off the plate. It doesn't hold its heat very long on its own, but for a few seconds it is pretty hot, mostly from heat from your plate which retains its heat.

I'm sure warming times vary by your microwave. On my 1100 watt microwave (1650 input, 1100 cooking output), it takes only 30 seconds on my thickest plates stacked by 2, and less on smaller thinner plates. I would be careful about over heating your plates if too rapid of expansion could possibly crack your plate. I have plates I really like and haven't been worried at all by these. I just don't push it. 30 seconds is really hot for my thick plates.

I used to run hot water and dry them, which took a while so I rarely did it. This is so much more effective and easy.

These plate warmers are just what we were looking for. 30 seconds in the microwave and the plates are preheated. Excellent

Honest reviews on Progressus ServIt Hot Plate Heaters, Pack of 4

Following directions, we used these several times. The third time, it cracked a plate that we'd long had and often heated in the oven. As one thinks about it, this isn't too surprising: The ServIt heats the center of the plate strongly while not heating the circumference at all; thermal stress is a certain result and a cracked plate is a likely outcome--as we found in practice. I've bought some more for myself and some for family. Why put a nice hot dinner onto a cold plate? Easy to use and good value.

Man was I wrong . This is absolutly beutiful and adds to our home .

Assembly was simple and well spelled out

It works just as advertised . Heats our room in an instant . The kids love the flame and the heat . My oldest like that she can sit in front and not smell smoke. Everyone compliments it . Not only is it beutiful but Amazon customer service saved the day .A little back story . We ordered this fireplace as our home did not come with a fireplace . My children wondered how Santa was going to deliver the presents . Just days before Christmas Amazon contacted me to advise that the original shipment would need to be replaced due to the carrier error . Just in the nick of time , no pun intended , the fireplace arrived and Santa delivered . Thanks Amazon

We are really pleased with our fireplace. It looks great in our living room. We live in a small townhouse, and the fireplace keeps the living room toasty. The heat output begins immediately to move the ceiling fan on it's own, as the heat rises. The furnace now rarely runs. The bedrooms are cool, which is how we like it. We live in South Carolina, so winter nights are cool but not frigid. Our electric bill (furnace is an electric heat exchanger) was less than expected last month. Will continue to evaluate this as the winter progresses. So far, very happy with this purchase.

If you buy a Dimplex product, cross your fingers that nothing breaks because if you have to call their customer service/technical support you are in for wild ride. It will take you about 2 hours on hold to get through to a live rep (who has that luxury??). They'll tell you it's their "busy season" meaning it's wintertime (duh!)

Now, if you're lucky enough to actually get through to a live rep, cross your fingers again that your problem wont require them sending out a rep to fix it, because you will be told to expect a call in one-to-two-days to set up an appointment (they wont give you the number to call yourself, you must wait for the call). But then the call doesn't come and you realize that your only recourse is to call Dimplex. Now your back to going on hold for two hours again.

The good news though is that if your fireplace breaks down in the middle of summer when you don't use it, you'll be able to get right through to one of their reps.

I love my fireplace, it is beautifully made and keeps my living room warm. My heat is in the ceiling so it always seemed cool. Now in the evening I turn the furnace way down and the fireplace keeps the room very comfortable. I highly recommend it. It was very easy for my son and daughter in law to put together, maybe took 1/2 hour and it is beautiful.

This product is beautiful, was easy to assemble (30 minutes) and produces real heat. I am thrilled with this purchase. The remote is convenient and allows you to have just the visual fire, or fire with heat. I love the high quality of this product. I considered some cheaper options but I am glad I went with the best.

I got this heater at Walmart about two years ago as an exchange for another heater that was recalled. I rarely used it until a few weeks ago. Seemed to work ok, not the best heat output but ok. But when I went to unlug the cord, the plug was so hot it burned my hand. Reported it to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, but haven't heard back from anyone.

We bought three of these three years ago in an emergency when our main heater blew. The following winter, we tried to reuse them, and two out of three were broken. The one that did make it to the second year died soon after. I remember when things used to last more than 90 days. Avoid this product.

I use this in my babies room at night to keep him warm, it's a little loud when it kicks on and makes a scratchy sound sometimes but my baby sleeps right through it. it can warm his room on low, on the middle setting to about 80 degrees in 6 hours. pretty dang good in my opinion.

After several happy years with my Bunn (10 cup/thermal carafe) coffee maker, it started leaking if multiple pots were brewed in a day. While comparing prices of other 'rapid' brew drip coffeemakers, found the low price of the Cook Essentials Intellichef Coffee Maker too low to resist. After initial set-up, the first pot brewed a full 10-cups in under 5 minutes. In addition to being spoiled by the rapid brew cycle of the Bunn, the temperature and flavor (regardless of brand of ground coffee) was always superior to Mr Coffee, Deloghni or Black & Decker brewers purchased and then given away. This unit seems to be well constructed and offers a sleek design. At 14 1/2" tall, easily accessible for adding water without moving the unit from under wall cabinet above countertop placement.

3rd pot brewed on Day 1. Consistent brew time, (very hot) temperature and (bold) flavor. Pleased to be sure. I typically brew between 2-3 pots per day during the week, and 4 or more per day on weekend lots of coffee drinking visitors. I will update at some point in the futre as to continued performance and satisfaction. Basic fact, at this unit's price, I can buy 5 of these units and just equal the best price I found for replacing my beloved Bunn. Using that price point logic, no complaints if this unit lasts at least nine months before a replacement should be necessary. Since there is a 1 year warranty, hopefully, a non-issue.

Makes good coffee, but misses some essential functions to make it more user friendly and if for whatever reason the power goes out you have guarantee no coffee in the morning because even if the power goes back on it doesn't switch on the coffee maker so you'll have to wait a minimum of 20 minutes. You can't pull out the coffee carafe while it's brewing because it misses a simple stop drip feature and the heating plate under the carafe seems to burn the coffee in the carafe fast.

The noise from the reheating of the water was annoying, but I could live with it to get a hot cup of coffee fast. No more. Less than 2 months after putting it in operation, both heating elements quit working. Never again for this brand

Box easy to frame in. Stuffed a 34,000 btu log set in. Not alot of play for connection, could've had more if used proper log set. Did not come with clear instructions for mounting fan location but could figure out after eye balling for a little bit. Costs are same with Amazon and Northern Tool, although shipping was half the cost with Amazon. This item regardless is shipped from Procom. After installed, I cranked it up and got it operating, checking for temperatures surrounding insert. Frame was cool, floor tile not effected. heat was rising although not effecting above and backwards area where future electronics will be placed. It's working out as planned although not enough room inside for planned gas shutoff valve. That had to be placed outside of insert. I got a good deal on refurbished log set at 34,000 btu and wanted to take advantage of that, dimensions fit although cramped inside insert. I don't see problems at all and can see that insert doing it's job for a long time. Hopefully log set lasts awhile. For an insert and prices on inserts would highly recommend this one.

We used an LP fireplace as the primary heating source for the first floor of our last home. We are just finishing up remodeling a home we purchased out of foreclosure and decided immediately that we would us a large LP fireplace as the primary heating source for the first floor in this home as well. We will be moving in soon and this unit has already proven to be well worth the price. If you are in the market for a gas or LP vent free fireplace, and are handy in any way, shape or form I suggest doing what I did. I bought this firebox, chose a vent free gas log set that would be compatible and built my own mantle out of solid maple. I assembled and installed the unit myself. By doing this I saved HUNDREDS of dollars over "packaged" vent free fireplaces I have seen on the market, AND I got a better fireplace.

This unit is solid, well-made and offers several different ways to attach the mantle. It also has a huge access door in the louvered area at the bottom for installation of the blower if you should be so inclined. Great product at a great price. Definitely recommend.

Functionality:

I purchased this because I didn't really like the way my friend's round fire pit worked. I thought that a square fire pit would make more sense. I can't tell you how right I was. The logs fit better and it's much easier to manage starting the fire. With this fires will start quickly, stay hot for a long time and look good doing it.

Appearance:

I really like the way this fire pit looks. My wife loves the pretty stars and moons on the side.

Assembly:

There were no instructions on how to put the side screen together, but it was simple to figure out. I had no issues setting it up, probably took about 15 min.

I really like this fire pit. It is nice and deep and has the pretty cutouts on the side. The cutouts are screened to prevent embers from leaping out. It took only a few minutes to put together. It is solid and sturdy. I would highly recommend this fire bowl.

Perfect size for my setting. It was easy to put together and I would recommend to others. No issues with the instructions and the mesh screen to cover the holes on the side was a nice touch.

Honest reviews on DeckMate Luna Wood Burning Outdoor Firebowl

Not willing to pay $200 and up for something that's going to sit in the yard. So, this seemed to be the best design for the best price. Plus free super saver shipping. We assembled and used the firebowl last night. Assembly took about 15-20 minutes. Issues: 1) The handle doesn't screw in as tight as I'd like. 2) There are pieces included *not* listed in the instructions; specifically the interior mesh panels. Further, though there are screw holes to fasten the mesh screens together, there are no screws included. Still, they stay in place pretty well. 3) There is no lip for the grate to rest on in the bowl. You just drop it in until the bowl tapers enough to hold the grate. So, that's all a little shoddy / suspect. But still the firebowl worked well; less than 30 minutes after we opened the package, we were sitting fireside. I'm sure there are better products, but I'm also sure there are worse.

I bought this Fireplace for my girlfriend's birthday and it has been used a lot ever since. It took about 10 minutes to assemble, it was very easy, and has held up great through all of our fires and even through Hurricane Irene. It's a great fireplace as the large sparks and coals can't escape so we can use it on our deck. I highly recommend this bowl for anyone who loves to sit by fires and who loves good deals, because this is well worth the money!

Although I like this heater, it didn't work for my needs and so I'll be returning it. I hoped it could take the place of the ancient, oscillating Honeywell ceramic fan heater that I use in the morning to warm up my very cold office (which can be as low as 43 inside when I open it up) before I switch on my oil-filled radiator, but it just does not have the power.

I do like this heater. It worked very well at heating up my 12'x15' bedroom and at keeping my office warm on a coolish afternoon, but it was a total failure at heating up my small, unheated and uninsulated office in the early morning. It took two hours forty-five minutes to bring my office from 52F to 67F. My oil-filled radiator does faster!

However for less cold situations, this is an excellent heater even for someone like myself who prefers heat from oil-filled radiator heaters. It's good looking, appears well made, and has an effective tip-over shut off mechanism. Vornado's five year warranty make it a fairly safe investment that should be satisfactory as long as you aren't trying to heat up a very cold, uninsulated room.

I tested it with my Kill-A-Watt to check the accuracy of the wattage claims. It's rated at 750/1500 watts but on mine, the actual wattages were 725 and 1350. When I tested it on thermostat operation for keeping a 12x15 room at 68F for 12 hours, I was impressed that the electrical consumption of this heater was actually lower than the oil-filled radiator heater I tested.

General information about buying electric space heaters:

=============================================

I've owned and used electric space heaters since 1988, mostly DeLonghi oil filled radiators. When I recently began looking for a heater that would warm up a room faster, I was frustrated at the lack of hard, objective, facts about electric space heaters. Even the manufacturer websites often fail to mention or makes it hard to learn the most basic information you need to know, such as wattage ratings and warranty lengths. Not even Consumer Reports has enough information to really inform a consumer. Therefore it's up to us as consumers to share what we know. The rest of this review shares some of what I've learned.

In case you're wondering what heater I decided on to replace my DeLonghi, I didn't, at least not yet. I tried a Vornado PVH and a Bionaire BH1331-U, but I ended up returning both heaters. I'm sticking with my oil-filled heaters for now.

Basic electric space heater facts:

1. All electric space heaters are equally efficient. All heaters rated at 1500 watts output the same amount of heat, but may do it very differently. You have to choose the one that heats the way you need it.

2. Power consumption is determined by two things: the power setting you're using and how long the heater is actually on. Turning up the thermostat setting doesn't increase the heat or power consumption; it just lengthens the time that your heater will be running.

3. To reduce power consumption, use the lowest power setting on your heater that produces the heat you need.

4. An electric space heater will save you money only if you turn your central heating down or off and use space heaters to heat only the rooms where you need heat.

5. The only kind of electric space heater that's likely to provide adequate heat in a large or draft space is a radiant heater (not to be confused with a radiator heater, which is very different), but radiant heaters pose a fire hazard.

Don't take manufacturer wattage claims too seriously. When I used my Kill-A-Watt meter on six space heaters, I found variations of up to 200 watts between the claimed and actual wattage for each space heater. In most cases the actual watts were less than the claimed watts, but one of my DeLonghi's 1500 watt heaters turned out actually to be a 1600 watt heater.

Two crucial steps in finding the electric space heater that's right for you:

============================================================

1. Learn which heater is right for your needs. A huge percentage of complaints by reviewers about space heaters are due to reviewers buying the wrong type of heater for their needs. Your first step should be to decide between the basic types: Ceramic heaters with a fan, oil-filled radiator, micathermic, and radiant. First learn the conditions in which each one works best and works best and then select the type that will work best for your needs. There is no one single "best" heater for all situations. Each one has conditions in which it works well and conditions in which it's terrible.

2. Look at the warranties. Warranties on space heaters range from one year to five years. Delonghi and Soleus heaters that I've checked have one year warranties. Other companies, such as Bionaire, Honeywell, Lasko, and Vornado offer three year and five year warranties on many but not all of their models. If a company offers only a one year warranty on some models but a five year warranty on others (such as Bionaire), it raises question about the durability of the heater with the shorter warranty. However a long warranty is only as good as the company offering it. Read reviews to learn what experiences people have when their heaters die while still under warranty.

In most cases, you'll have to download the manual from the manufacturer's website to get the length of the warranty. It's a nuisance, but it's worth taking the time to do.

Don't let anyone tell you that any particular type of heater is "the best". The best type is the one that best suits YOUR needs. The best heater for me might be the worst heater for you. Some heaters heat up a cold room faster, some keep a room at a steady temperature, and some will work better in a large space.

Some questions you need to ask yourself before deciding which type of heater to buyWill it be keeping a room at a steady temperature? (oil-filled radiator or micathermics heaters might be best)

Will it be heating up a cold room? (a heater with a fan or a radiant heater might be best)

Are there children or pets who might be injured by touching a hot surface? (oil-filled radiator and radiant heater might be a problem)

Do you want to heat just a particular spot rather than the whole room? (radiant heaters might be best

Are you concerned about fire risks? (oil-filled radiator or micathermic heaters might be best, though no space heater is completely safe)

Oil-filled radiators:

These are my favorite heaters. These are the heaters that look like old-fashioned steam radiators. The oil retains its warmth after the thermostat cycles off, which is important if you want to keep a room at a steady temperature. The downside is that the oil takes longer to heat initially, which is why these heaters take so long to warm up.

I have two DeLonghi oil-filled radiators; I've been using one of them for 23 years, and the other is about eight years old. I love the heat they provide. It's steady, warm, with no noise and no drying out of the air like with some other types of heaters. They are ideal for maintaining a steady temperature in an enclosed room.

Oil filled heaters have a huge drawback, however: they are terrible at heating up a cold room. It can take an oil-filled heater hours longer to heat up a cold room than other types of heaters.

The US Department of Energy recommends oil-filled heaters as the most efficient, because the fins generate warmth even when the heater's thermostat cycles off. However this efficiency is only when the heater is continually on, keeping a room at a constant temperature. If you turn the heater on and off frequently, you'll lose most of the efficiency that's inherent in these heaters.

If you have children or pets, look into one of the shielded radiator heaters. I prefer the unshielded ones because they radiate more heat laterally, but the surface can get very hot and be a hazard if touched. DeLonghi claims that their shielded radiator heaters circulate heated air more quickly. Both of mine are unshielded, so I have no way of confirming that. My concern about the shielded radiators is that they would direct more hot air up rather than to the side, where I need it.

If your electric rates are different for different times of the day, you can use this to your advantage in setting your radiator heater toswitch on and warm the room from cold when rates are low, then let it provide steady heat when rates are higher.

A word of warning about oil-filled radiators: if one is poorly made or damaged, it can leak oil and permanently damage rugs and floors or even start a fire. Only buy from a reputable manufacturer and don't accept one that has any visible damage.

Ceramic fan heaters:

These are great at heating a room quickly, however many people including myself don't like the heat they blow. I don't mind it in my Vornado Personal Heater (375/700watt), which is located under my desk, but I thoroughly dislike it in the old Honeywell ceramic oscillating heater that came with my house. I much prefer the warmth that comes from an oil-filled radiator. Ceramic heaters can be most effective at quickly warming up a cold room.

Radiant heaters

Radiant heaters (don't confuse them with radiator heaters!) work by heating whatever they are pointed at rather than heating the air in the room. If you have a large, drafty space, a radiant heater might be your best choice, because it doesn't heat the air, only the objects and people it's directed at.

Micathermic heaters

Micathermic heaters work similarly to oil-filled radiators, except that instead of heavy metal fins filled with hot oil, micathermic heaters have thin sheets of mica that heat up. I've only had experience with one micathermic, a Bionaire BH1331-U, and found that it's exterior surface remained very cool except for a few very warm spots on top. There would be less risk of young children being burned by touching a micathermic heater than an oil-filled radiator. Micathermic heaters are slower heating than ceramic fan heaters, but are faster then oil-filled radiators..

Baseboard heaters

I have a Lakewood oil-filled baseboard heater I bought five years ago that has many of the advantages of a micathermic heater. It heats faster than an oil-filled radiator but has no hot surfaces and low fire risk. My Lakewood does an excellent job of heating my 12x15 bedroom.

However I have not researched baseboard heaters and only have experience with this Lakewood, so I don't know whether others are as good as this one. I was impressed that when I measured the actual wattages of my various space heaters, the Lakewood's actual wattages came closest to its claimed wattages of all the other heaters I tested. Lakewood unfortunately went out of business in 2009 and had a major problem with oil leaking from its heaters a few years earlier. Despite this, it's in many ways my best heater and has the lowest cost of operation.

I bought this heater to use in my bedroom. When I first turned it on, it stayed so cool to the touch, I wasn't sure if it could actually heat up the room. But in about 15-20 minutes, it comfortably heats the ENTIRE room evenly (even with 12' ceilings). The best thing is that the heat is not hot or drying. Also, it is not like those old ceramic heaters-this is a totally different technology. I don't really get how it works (or care for that matter), but I already bought another one! Absolutely worth the price-I don't have to turn up the thermostat and heat the rooms I'm not in anymore!

I bought this heater for a recent camping trip as an alternative to using a propane heater inside my popup camper. The propane heater works great but you need the fuel source, 's a bit bulky and with the dogs around in a small space you have to worry about a potential burn or tip over. With all that I didn't want to buy a smaller propane heater so after reading a few reviews here and looking at how this function in the store I was still a little skeptical that this would do the job but decided to give it a shot.

We were going camping in Boothbay Harbor Maine, so I expected it to get chilly (To give you a point of reference it's about 3 hours north of Boston.) We were on the water and the first night it went from chilly to cold. It hit the lower 50's so I was thinking I made a bad decision in packing light and that should have lugged the propane heater along.

I plugged it in and for the rest of the night prepared for cold, bitter disappointment about my purchase...

To my surpise this heater was awesome, if you know anything about popups you know it's basically a tent but you are off the ground. No insulation and can be a little drafty where the canvas meets the body of the trailer.

I set the unit for maximum heat (settigng 7?) assuming it need to be on his setting just to give us a little heat, I woke up about 2 hours later and it was hot in the camper, hot enough that I opened the ceiling vent and lowered the setting to the midway point and closed the vent. It cycled on an off to meet the needs of the temperature shifts and kept the cabin temp comfortable for the rest of the night.

The second night wasn't as cold and I left the setting at 2 and it was perfect. A side benefit, the fan isn't loud but fits the need for those who like a little background noise to fall asleep too.

If this can heat and un-insulated, drafty space adequately I think it will fo just fine keep a moderately sized room warmed.

Highest rating for this product, if you are thinking of buying a new heater I recommend you give this one a shot.

Honest reviews on Vornado PVH Whole Room Panel Vortex Heater

Our old ceramic space heater died, and I found myself in the market for a new one right after a cold snap, when the stores had slim pickin's. I bought the Vornado PVH at Target, and I was so hesitant to use it that I left it in my car for about a month before bringing it inside. (I found another ceramic heater at a different store and used that in the meantime.) I was worried mainly that: it would be loud (based on the "Vornado" name), it doesn't oscillate, so it couldn't possibly warm the whole room, and that it didn't have an actual temperature setting, so it would stay on all the time and pump out loud, hot air.

I was so, so wrong. The name is misleading. The sound doesn't conjure images of a vortex or a tornado. It has a quiet hum that is actually comforting more than anything else. I'm actually really glad that it doesn't oscillate, because our ceramic heaters all developed a 'click' sound when changing directions, and the PVH won't have that problem. The heat level selector is great. When I first turned it on, I set it to LOW at level 6, and came back after 30 minutes to a ridiculously cozy, warm (all over) bedroom. It was too warm to even sleep under the covers, so we've since had it set to LOW level 2-3, which I'd say probably keeps the temp in the mid 60s. We don't like a lot of heat; we just want to take the chill off, although there's plenty of upside for people who like really warm rooms. Also, the unit does cycle on and off to maintain the heat setting you've chosen, which is exactly what I wanted. If I walk in front of the the heater, I feel a gentle 'breeze' of air, which is so strange, because the name (and the efficiency of the unit) would suggest that it should be a forceful wind, but it just isn't. I'm not even sure how it works so well, but it does.

We're using the PVH to heat a 12'x14' bedroom with 8' ceilings, and 6' sliding glass patio doors in Northern California (where it actually gets cold, but doesn't snow). The room is warm everywhere, with no chilly or hot spots. My husband and I have been very impressed, and we haven't used our ceramic heater once since I finally pulled the Vornado out of the box. The only downside is that, unlike some of the other reviewers, I do believe the Vornado dries the air out, but I'm a contact lens wearer, and pretty much all fans do that. I would certainly recommend this heater to friends and family. 4 out of 5 stars.

Just bought and read directions and pluged in. Works great and is very quiet even with the fan running. Brought the room up to temp in about 1520min. Great heater that I recommend.

This warmer works very well in the "warming" department, but before purchasing, be aware of the following:

the cord is very short, so you will probably need an extension cord.

the on/off switch is located half way down the cord, so you have to reach for it a bit... It would be much better if the on/off switch was on the warmer unit itself.

the bottom "feet" are made of hard plastic, so it "slides" on hard surfaces and can scratch your furniture. It would be much better if it had rubber feet.

Other than that, it's a nice product.

I read a ton of reviews for all the different cup warmers. None of them seemed to work. This one does. The drinks stay hot, but not as hot as when they were first brewed, of course. At least they aren't lukewarm. The cup gets hot too so be careful. I even use it for my 32 oz Bodum press tea pot. I set the pot right on the burner and my tea stays warm enough to enjoy for hours not scalding, but between warm and hot.

You have to start with hot liquid. It will not heat cold or lukewarm drinks. The bottom of the cup has to fit flat on the hot plate. Without full contact, you will lose the heat. A super thick cup won't keep the liquid as hot as a thinner one. I tried my 3/8" thick glass latte cup, but it stayed only lukewarm. My regular cermaic and glass coffee and tea mugs work perfectly. The wider the bottom of the cup, the better. A pedastle cup has less surface contact so less heat is transferred to the cup.

There's an on and off roller switch on the cord itself. It seems some other models don't offer that feature. I also like the chunky "marble texture" look of this one. The seller (not amazon) delivered very fast too (less than a week). I'm very satisfied.

I previously had revewied this product. It had arrived late and a bit defective but it worked great. Low and behold, and much to my suprise, the company had read my review and within days, sent a replacement with their apologies. This one was perfect and I use it all day long. Keeps my coffee hot, hot, hot. I am bowled over by a company who cares so much that they read their own customers' reviews and act upon any negatives. They get a TEN in my book. Great cup warmer. I recommend highly!

Honest reviews on Norpro 5569 Decorative Cup Warmer

I could not be happier with this coffee warmer. my old one at 9 watts (stated on bottom of product) had coffee getting cold after one hour. this 24 watt warmer keeps coffee hot but not scolding, and for at least 4+ hours, which is as long as I've used it so far. Plus I love the on/off switch on the plug opposed to on the stand. When on the stand, a little spilt coffee will highly affect the on/off button operation, not on the plug though! The base is wide too, I can fit my wide 18 oz mug on the warmer with room to spare. I love and highly recommend this product for anyone wanting to keep a beverage hot for hours and hours.

The product is advertised with a 3.75" diameter heated surface. That is why I ordered it, since I do have other cup warmers, but I have some mugs with wide bases that do not fit on them. To my disappointment, it is not as advertised the warming surface is 3.5" across the entire black (heated) part, and only 3.25" across the flat USABLE part of the heated surface. I would have returned it, but it was so cheap the cost of returning it would be about 1/2 the cost of the refund. So it is in the closet as a replacement for when one of my other mug warmers wears out and I'm very disappointed.

I did a ton of research and bought a few heaters before this one but I'm most happy with the Vornado. The first two I bought were digital ceramic heaters. I have to recommend against getting a digital heater. Each time you turn it on, you have to push several controls to get back to where you like it, with this heater, you just turn it on. The only thing that kept me from buying it first was cost and the fact that it had no ceramic element which theoretically was a safer element than an electric coil. We use it in a few bedrooms that are not freezing cold but uncomfortably cold. The other great feature is it'll run on lower power and only use as much wattage as is needed to heat the room. My other heaters would run full blast till it hit the desired temperature, then turn off, repeat over and over. The trouble is, heaters will use about as much power as must rooms have available so if you have anything else plugged in, you'll throw the circuit breaker, which happened over and over for me. A 1200w heater (which is common) will use over 10Amps. That's a TON of power. The Vornado will run and heat just fine on a low power setting using about 5A max and less if less is needed.

Here's a summary of what I like:

Pros:

Plastic grill never gets hot to the touch why do others use metal ?

Only uses the power it needs to gives your electric panel a rest

Much easier to use than digital heaters don't buy digital !

Compact and stable on the floor

Well built many heaters are absolute junk

Cons:

Expensive for a space heater

No ceramic element which MAY mean it could spark easier

When running on high, I noticed a buzzing noise in the fan but not during normal use

This heater is exactly what I needed. I've had it for a few days now, and it works perfectly.

I primarily wanted a heater that would work with an external / plug-in / wall timer. You know, the thing with the dial. So many heaters have a "timer" which is actually just one-time automatic shut-off, so you still need to turn it on, and set the timer, each night. I wanted something that would turn on and off at specific times of day, and there aren't many if any.

This heater has three rocker switches for power, heat level, and fan speed; it has a dial for temperature. There are no toggles or digital settings or anything. That means you can cut power to it, then restore power, and it's right back to where you left it -same temp setting, everything. I have it plugged into a heavy duty timer rated for 1875 watts.

Beyond meeting that specific requirement of mine, this is a great heater. It delivers on its promise of even heating. It circulates the air very well, and automatically adjusts both fan speed and heat output. Much better than heaters that simply cycle. It's also very quiet -I didn't believe its "whisper-quiet" claims, but it's true.

One step down (VH2) and you lose the automatic fan and heat level ("A" is for automatic). One step up (DVH) and you get digital, which probably won't work on a timer.

I can't believe all the bad reviews for Vornado heaters. My wife bought one almost 10 years ago at a garage sale and we've used it every night during the winters for years. I took it hunting and hooked it up in the back of a pickup truck in the winter at 10 degrees outside, we slept on top of the sleeping bags in our underwear. We bought the VH2 a few years back and use it during the winter in another room in the house. We keep the house at around 64 degrees at night and have one heater for the entire upstairs 4 bedrooms. It raises the temp a couple of degrees and you can tell the difference the moment you go downstairs. The other in our family room, over a crawl space, keeps the room very comfortable even on the coldest nights AND it's an open room about 14 feet wide and 35 feet long. Just angle it in the general direction and you'll feel the difference. THIS IS NOT A WHOLE HOUSE HEATER! It is a space heater which means heating a relatively small space. It cranks out hot air quickly but it's going to take a while to make a difference in a big room. In the back of a pickup truck in the middle of winter it was like a sauna so we had to keep turning it down. In a house with 8 foot ceilings and large rooms don't expect it to do more than heat up the general area. Defects aside these things are in my experience safe for kids and pets (no RED element, COOL to the touch) and reliable. I still like the old one but after all these years it is starting to make an occassional noise. I'm buying another one and putting that old reliable in my basement.

Bottom line is despite the bad reviews on Vornado it's the only brand I've had good experience with. Holmes isn't very good. I've got one in a 7 x 5 bathroom that really barely heats up that room, putting a Vornado in there would likely peel the paint off the wall. We keep our costs down by running one in the family room where we spend our time, then one for our upstairs at night. Since hot air rises you don't lose any down the steps and you can close doors if you only need to HELP a couple of rooms.

Honest reviews on Vornado AVH2 Whole Room Vortex Heater, Automatic Climate Control

Pros: Solid construction, safe around my cats (not likely to be knocked over, and little paws are safe), heating element not visible in a dark room, high/low setting, can be used as fan, heats up my room better than my cheaper (but reliable) holms heater.

Cons: It doesn't feel anything like my car heater on max setting.

Noise. On the high setting it reminds me of a locast swarm a mile awayon the low setting it's even louder. Durability: unknown.

I would give it five stars if half the price, but I don't think it's a great value for the money.

*edit* after one year the unit started having problems. It will overheat within seconds of turning the unit on and shut itself off. The work around is to run the fan first before turning up the heater control. I believe that this is a problem with the power supply that is built into the unit not providing enough wattage to simultaneously start the fan and run the heater; if you start the fan first the problem is avoided (a fan draws more electricity when starting than once it's running).

I bought this a couple of years ago to carry from room to room in our leaky 1908 house in Oregon. It does everything it claims to do: heats the room evenly, quickly and has great settings for automatic temp control. We even moved it into the chicken coop when the new chicks were trying to stay warm and it managed to keep an uninsulated building several degrees above the outside temp. Still, the one complaint I have is that the heater fan never turns off. Instead, it constantly 'sniffs' the air with a low circulation setting. I assume it is gauging the temp of the room so it can click back to full force to re-heat the room. In this way it keeps the room even, but I do find the constant sound of the circulation fan to be a bit distracting. Note that I work alone in a home office, so am sensitive to low level noise.

I've had my VH2 for several years -it's always reliable and always great at quickly warming up a room in my drafty old house. This is a forced air / fan aided heater, so it's not a product to sit in front of for instant comfort, like a radiant heater, so consider that in deciding what suits your needs. I swear by them. The second one I bought had the switch go after only a couple of years -it worked great before then, and after it broke the good folks at Vornado took care of the problem with no hassle. These heaters are terrific. The quality is well worth the extra money, and buying something actually made in the US is an added treat.

We own a Vornado floor fan that we use during the summer and purchased this heater about a month ago for our bedroom. We wanted to stop heating the entire house at night to save some money. Well, as has been stated by others, this is not the kind of heater you sit in front of to get warm. We run it on the low setting and it will warm our bedroom by around 5 degrees in about an hour. That is just about perfect. We use a timer to have it come on at 10, then off by midnight. then again at 3, then off at 3:30. then on again at 6 and off at 7. It works. Our room stay warm, not hot.

The heater is not real quiet. After all, it's a fan with a heater element. We actually like the noise in the room. It's smaller than you might think and takes up little floor space. The built-in thermostat works, but we noticed it would sometimes cycle on and off quickly. The external timer solved that problem (we set the thermostat higher).

We would have no issues buying another one. Highly recommend.

This heater is a must have for me. I have three levels to my house and use these heaters (I have 3) constantly. None have needed repair & some are rather old. I find the only negative thing I can say is I have to fight with my cat as to gets to sit closest to the heater! Great buy well worth the cost.

Honest reviews on Vornado Vortex Whole Room Heater

I ordered this heater because of the Vornado name. Have had 7 of their products over the years and was always happy. This one is advertised as a 'whole room heater.' It would hardly heat a small bathroom. Fan wouldn't produce enough air movement so that when standing in front of it one would even notice that it was on.

I hope Vornado goes back to the drawing board on this one. I will continue to believe that they can and do build quality products. This was just not one of them.

The heater heated our living room but also created a breeze that made us colder. I understand the point of the fan part is to circulate the warm air around the room to have an even heat in the room but we didn't like that feature. I read some reviews saying it was loud but it wasn't, it was like white noise, we didn't have to turn the TV volume up. This heater just wasn't for us.

This shield does protect my sofa from the pellet heater,

which is placed just 8" away. I did place a 1 1/2" foil

faced insulating board between the shield & sofa.

Painted both items black so not noticeable.

Don't use just a foil shield, as it could melt.

Shield is necessary.
