I dont have central heat and air for years now. I been looking for sometime a good strong heater that works on a 220V shocket.

I finally saw this one and bought it.

Same size as your typical plug in Electric heaters. The chord to plug into the socket tho is the same as my 24,000 BTU a/c....it's a Big thick 10 gauge chord with a 30 am terminal.

Anyhow, of you have a 30 amp socket, your good to go.

This unit is is waaaaaaaaaaaay Hotter than ANY standard plug in heater. Those at BEST will give you 5,100 BTU, this unit gives you 16,000 BTU's. About as much as a kerosene heater.

Has your typical controls for a heater, on off, and a thermostat by numbers (1 to 6). I highly recommend this Heater for anyone ho has no central heat or you need heat in your garage or work shed, this is perfect.

Nice little heater. Works well keeping a vacant space warm through the winter. Note that this is a 208/230 volt unit so plan to have the proper circuit available. A little smaller than expected but it's still fine.

Best Deals on Dimplex #DCH4831L 4800-Watt Portable Construction Heater

I bought this for my 20'x20' semi-insulated attached garage in Wisconsin. It cranks out some heat, but not enough to realistically heat that garage in the winter unless it runs ALL the time. Nicely built unit, VERY simple, basically a coil, fan, and thermostat. There is nothing else inside this thing. When I turned this unit on, and placed it next to my existing 120V 1500W fan heater ($10 type model), I had to check several times because I didn't even think the 1500w heater was turned on! This unit cranks out some heat for it's size. It's basically the size of two shoeboxes taped together, or maybe a pice of paper, it's very small. It helps in the garage, but I found that it is better used in my basement where it can make a bid difference in just a few minutes of use.

Remember you need a 30 amp 240 volt outlet for this. I used my dryer outlet, since I now have a gas dryer. I made up an extension cord that plugs into the existing dryer outlet, and has the 30 amp NEMA outlet on the other end. I got all the stuff at Home Depot, and the cord will be the most expensive part (you need 12 guage, 3 conductors total, no neutral needed).

All in allnot big enough for the garage, but works nice in the workshop. 4800 watts is a lot of power though so I expect a big electric bill :)

HEATER DOES A GOOD JOB HEATING, PACKAGING WAS MINIMAL ROTATING TEMP SWITCH WAS BENT BUT STILL WORKED.

NEEDS A FAN ONLY SELECTION OR A THERMAL SWITCH TO KEEP FAN GOING UNTIL HEAT COILS COOL OFF, GETS VERY HOT WHEN CYCLES OFF WONDER ABOUT ITS LONGIVITY.

Bought this unit as a construction site heater and it has fulfilled the purpose admirably. Compact, well engineered, quality built, powerful and reasonably priced. I plan on keeping this unit as a garage heater for those vehicle emergencies and, "Winter projects," that can't be put off till Spring. RW

My Wife ordered this item

At first I thought it was too expensive for the price

Man was I wrong . This is absolutly beutiful and adds to our home .

Assembly was simple and well spelled out

It works just as advertised . Heats our room in an instant . The kids love the flame and the heat . My oldest like that she can sit in front and not smell smoke. Everyone compliments it . Not only is it beutiful but Amazon customer service saved the day .A little back story . We ordered this fireplace as our home did not come with a fireplace . My children wondered how Santa was going to deliver the presents . Just days before Christmas Amazon contacted me to advise that the original shipment would need to be replaced due to the carrier error . Just in the nick of time , no pun intended , the fireplace arrived and Santa delivered . Thanks Amazon

We are really pleased with our fireplace. It looks great in our living room. We live in a small townhouse, and the fireplace keeps the living room toasty. The heat output begins immediately to move the ceiling fan on it's own, as the heat rises. The furnace now rarely runs. The bedrooms are cool, which is how we like it. We live in South Carolina, so winter nights are cool but not frigid. Our electric bill (furnace is an electric heat exchanger) was less than expected last month. Will continue to evaluate this as the winter progresses. So far, very happy with this purchase.

If you buy a Dimplex product, cross your fingers that nothing breaks because if you have to call their customer service/technical support you are in for wild ride. It will take you about 2 hours on hold to get through to a live rep (who has that luxury??). They'll tell you it's their "busy season" meaning it's wintertime (duh!)

Now, if you're lucky enough to actually get through to a live rep, cross your fingers again that your problem wont require them sending out a rep to fix it, because you will be told to expect a call in one-to-two-days to set up an appointment (they wont give you the number to call yourself, you must wait for the call). But then the call doesn't come and you realize that your only recourse is to call Dimplex. Now your back to going on hold for two hours again.

The good news though is that if your fireplace breaks down in the middle of summer when you don't use it, you'll be able to get right through to one of their reps.

I love my fireplace, it is beautifully made and keeps my living room warm. My heat is in the ceiling so it always seemed cool. Now in the evening I turn the furnace way down and the fireplace keeps the room very comfortable. I highly recommend it. It was very easy for my son and daughter in law to put together, maybe took 1/2 hour and it is beautiful.

This product is beautiful, was easy to assemble (30 minutes) and produces real heat. I am thrilled with this purchase. The remote is convenient and allows you to have just the visual fire, or fire with heat. I love the high quality of this product. I considered some cheaper options but I am glad I went with the best.

Why pay more? All you want to do is keep your patio heater from rusting or becoming a critter nest. I have 2 which have been through rain and storm. No problems. Thought they might be flimsy, but they are fine.

good price. still in one piece after years of use by the beach! love it. kinda thin, but who cares. my heater is rusting faster, this will probably out last it.

Honest reviews on PATIO HEATER COVER

Like everything else that is manufactured, heaters are not made to any kind of standard dimensions. The cover I bought did not fit over my heater as the cover diameter was too small. Between the postage of sending it back along with the stocking fee it would have cost me more money to send it back. So I donated it. If you but one, make sure it will fit.

I'm an air conditioning contractor and purchased this item to cool my insulated garage. When I finally got it together and turned it on, the compressor didn't come on for a few minutes. When it did, it cooled like it should. But after about 5 minutes the compressor turned off. Probably on high pressure. It was only 88 in the garage. This thing should be able to handle that load. The controls are easy to figure out but the air outlet only adjusts left or right. You can't change the discharge direction up or down. So the cool air (when the compressor is running) hits me in the thighs, I would rather like to be able to direct the air discharge up and across the area for better circulation. Overall, this is a big disappoinment. This item maybe useful as a supplemental A/C, like in a room that doesn't cool well. But don't depend on it to cool a room by itself. It won't be able to handle the load.

We have the WA-1220M model of this product (virtually identical). If you stand right in front on it, up to about 5 feet away, it's nice. However, it has several drawbacks:

1. It isn't very good at drying the air; evaporation is needed for effective air-conditioning (whether in your car or your home).

2. It must be drained of the water it does pull from the air, and draining the unit is very cumbersome. It comes with a small flexible plastic tube that has to be connected to the rear bottom of the unit; the other end must be lower in order to drain or the unit really does very little and although there's an indicator light that will come on if the unit is quite full of water, it's very rare that the light comes on (and it only does so LONG after the unit has stopped cooling the air). We have taken to wrapping a large towel around the far end of the tube to collect water that drains, but basically you must tilt the heavy unit backwards to try to drain it. This is not particularly effective but it must be done.

3. It has wheels, but it doesn't roll easily (it's hard to push or pull it in a straight line and the wheels are so small even getting over a low rug is difficult.

4. Moving the unit up or down a single step can be accomplished by one person but since the entire unit is made of very smooth, slippery plastic (it has handles but they're very shallow & not helpful), it's more safely accomplished with two people.

5. Consider that this unit, while mobile, sacrifices a good window seal. The large exhaust hose (which pumps the hot air outside) resembles a telescoping dryer hose that easily falls out of the backside of the unit and is awkward to extend evenly. The unit comes with a smallish piece of foam with a cutout hole for the hose. However, you are left with having to find some way to block the rest of whatever window you choose to put the hole into. We use a large carboard box panel and cut a hole out of, then duct-tape the box into the window opening to block out air seepage. As you can imagine, it looks pretty tacky.

We wouldn't buy this again.

I keep it in my bathroom; well away from water of course. It heats up the space when I shower in the morning during the cooler months. It does not use very much electricity, heats up a small room quickly and prevents me from turning up the heat for the entire house! Well worth the price, keep the dust cleaned off of the back of the heater.

The heaters are relatively inexpensive and very compact. Overall, I think they are worth the money. The only complaint with the unit is that, unlike a lot of others I've had, it doesn't automatically shut off upon tipping. The manual says it will shut off if tipped, but it isn't immediate. Would prefer to see that safety feature improved, however I may be missing something. The unit remains cool on the outside and presents less hazard in a lot of ways to others, so a plus there.

The heater pictured is different from one I ordered and recieved. I think I got a newer model, I had the one pictured for several years and it worked fine. The one I recieved does not work on all settings, only low. It worked fine when I first got it and now after a few weeks it does not. I use it in my office and it is quite and would be fine if it worked and didnt shut off on some settings. Not sure if I just dot a defective heater.

Honest reviews on Holmes HFH105-UM Compact Heater Fan with Adjustable Thermostat

This little, inexpensive heater puts out a fair amount of heat for its size. I used mine to heat my motorcoach (about the size of a small apartment) and it performed really well. The fan was quiet (like white noise) which, at bedtime, was quite soothing. Unfortunately, the pedestal base is inadequate for this fan. Mine tipped over too many times to count, and was very unstable (tipping over at the slightest vibration). To make matters worse, there was no safety cutoff. If the fan tipped over, I had to be Mr. Johnny-on-the-spot and right it before it burned a hole in my carpet. The last time it tipped over, it took me about 10 seconds to get to it. By the time I righted the unit, the motor had burned out and died. No smoke, just dead. I took it apart to fix it, but it is unfixable. It's a powerful, efficient heater, but the design sucks. I will be buying another one of these (assuming the company doesn't swap it out for a different model, like one commenter stated), and I will be reinforcing the pedestal so the dumb thing doesn't tip over. I've tried a lot of heaters, and for the low price, this thing is a gem -just be sure to nail it to the floor!

It doesn't have a thermostat. I don't know where they got that idea from. I only needed a heater for a couple of months and this was on clearance at Target for $3.50 so I thought I'd give it a try. It'll heat up a room....eventually. And it's very loud, even though it's so small. I have to turn my tv up two times as high as usual when the heater's on.

I have been using the Chef's Choice 677 Cordless Electric 1-3/4-Quart Teakettle for 4 years. Worked like a charm but had to replace it when it won't start anymore and has rusted so much from years of use.

The Chef's Choice 681 was a great choice for an upgrade. I have been using it for a week and a half and it works great. Heats water in just two minutes! The design is simply beautiful. It is slightly smaller than the older one I have by just 0.5 liters. I like that this kettle lights up when it's on. The blue light is highly visible unlike the Chef's Choice 677 Cordless Electric 1-3/4-Quart Teakettle where you barely notice the light. Because of the blue light, I haven't burned myself by accidentally touching the kettle. The sound of boiling water isn't as loud as the old one I have too.

It has no plastic interiors, all stainless steel coated. It does have a slight industrial smell inside, out from the box. The interior must be rinsed well before using.

The body of this kettle is prone to fingerprints easily. Easy cleaning with microfiber sponge or towel does the job.

This kettle is also lighter than the former one I had. I used this several times a day and it's wonderful! Great for the price compared to other more expensive electric kettles sold at Amazon.

I'm very pleased with this recent replacement kettle.

For decades (both in the UK and USA) I have always had a plastic kettle, as I don't especially like the look of stainless steel appliances. I was never bothered by taste or other effects from using a plastic kettle until my last one started to malfunction. More specifically it would overheat/not shut off and when this happened there was an extreme taste of plastic in the water, which really made me think about leaching from plastic, so I decided to switch to a stainless kettle and I am glad I did.

It's much harder to find nice electric kettles these days than it used to be. Most of the new ones are complete junk OR extremely expensive gadgets with unnecessary features.

This kettle is solidly made, straighforward and nicely designed. It's not too heavy when full and pours nicely; it's not terribly loud when it boils like many kettles are; the lid has a nice smooth opening mechanism; it's quick; the on/off switch is easy to use and had a nice indicator light. The only feature that could be better is the level indicator it's hard to see and I don't think mine works, so I just judge volume by looking inside.

It does require a thorough cleaning before use to get rid of any lingering manufacturing residues. I scrubbed the interior with a paste of baking soda and water, rinsed it out then boiled a pot of white vinegar. After that I boiled (and discarded) about 5 or 6 kettlesfull of water before using and there is no taste or odor in the pot.

I only gave it 4 stars because the volume indicator could be better and the steel surface does show some smudge marks, but otherwise I think it's a good choice. I did not buy mine through Amazon because I was able to get it cheaper elsewhere with a coupon.

Best Deals on Chef'sChoice M681 International Cordless Electric Kettle

I research a long time and finally decided on this kettle. I'm very pleased with my choice. I love the look and find it easy to handle. Also, the top stays open when filling. It heats quickly and the bright blue light showing when heating keeps my attention. We use it at least twice a day and sometimes more. I've had it a month or so and no problems so far.

Honest reviews on Chef'sChoice M681 International Cordless Electric Kettle

This kettle seemed ideal for three months until it started leaking. At first I thought it had just been overfilled, but that isn't the case. Even if it's only half full it leaks. Throwing it out and going to find something that won't leak. Otherwise, I really liked this kettle.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Chef'sChoice M681 International Cordless Electric Kettle

After reading reviews of electric kettles, I nearly gave up on getting one, because all of them have a raft of negative reviews, even when lots of people like them. But this one has been great! I've used it for about three weeks. Works well, heats really fast. Lid opens easily and fully, so it's easy to fill. Spout makes pouring easy. I deliberately chose one that didn't make any alarm noise when water boiled, and I'm so glad I made that choice. I listen for the sound of water boiling, or kettle clicking off, or I watch for the blue light to go out. I plan to buy a second one for another location.

My old air conditioner has a temperature knob that unfortunately was broken to pieces due to old age, just a few weeks ago. I know it would be almost impossible to find the identical replacement knob locally or through the manufacturer, neither did have the time to be driving up and down looking for a replacement knob for an old air conditioner.. so as usual anytime I need something that might be unavailable elsewhere: the first place I checked is Amazon.com. And sure enough I saw these knobs. I ordered them and in no time they arrived at my house. It certainly fitted on my air conditioner shaft without a problem, and I was very happy not having to use the pliers anymore to rotate temperature knob. There's one catch to this particular knob, it will fit almost any "knob shaft" like it's name implies, but as far as the orientation marks on the knob, lining up with the corresponding marks on the appliance, that will definitely be dependent on "luck" or chance, since every manufacturer of appliances have the flat spot on their shaft according to design. Therefore there is no guarantee that orientation marks you see on these knobs will necessarily line up with the pointer for the markings on your appliance. In my case they did not line up,but nonetheless I added my own marks that corresponds to the new orientation, since I was mainly looking for just a knob to turn the AC shaft to the different temperature level, and this little does that fine. You can't have your cake and eat it,this is a generic knobs, so it's name doesn't really imply the reality of it capability;s full functionality, but will wprk in most if not all cses in replacing an appliance knob.

The knob is only suited for appliances where the shaft you are attaching the knob to extends beyond the surface where the knob seats. It includes a set screw for gripping the shaft and you might need access to tighten the set screw when seated on the shaft. My AC unit has a recessed shaft that this knob could not reach. So useless. Fitz all needs to develop an extension tube that could be cut to size and fit on their knob and a recessed shaft to make this truly a fit all product.Fitz All 1345 appliance knobs.

Nice little knobs, two in a pack. 1 1/8" diameter x 5/8" high. The hole is actually a round hole 1/4" in diameter, so if you need a knob for a 1/4" square shaft (like I did), you'll need to enlarge it. I drilled it to 3/8" and then it worked well.

Honest reviews on Fitz All 1345 appliance knobs.

I got these knobs to replace my broken crock pot knob. I thought I had read the dimensions correctly before purchasing, but apparently not. When these arrived, I realized they were entirely too small for my crock pot and really too small for anything else in my kitchen that might need replacement knobs. As such, I'm not really sure what they are supposed to replace and I do not recommend them.

Presto HeatDish Parabolic Electric Space Heater Plus Footlight Review

Presto HeatDish Parabolic Electric Space Heater Plus Footlight
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

I purchased the Costco version of this Presto heater and LOVE IT, but it's critically important to know what you're getting into:

Infrared radiant heat from these parabolic dish heaters does NOT heat ROOM AIR much at all! It heats primarily water, things saturated with water (like we Humans), and coincidentally many Plastics---all assuming a narrow infrared focus range peaking at 3 microns (3000nm wavelength). Even longer wavelengths (3-10 microns) are possible but less specifically-aimed at human bodies and thus put heat into nearby concrete, wood floors, people, and most other materials, including many metals.

*Directional Infrared Heat* (i.e., focused Radiant Heat from these dish heaters) is VERY EFFICIENT if your goal is to put all/most of the heater's energy into YOU and not into a large room's air (or outdoor air).

BUT, this means you have to stand IN FRONT of the heater :) Otherwise, you'll barely notice much heat at all (just the small fraction of heat that escapes via convection into the air, or the wavelength falloff range that extends sufficiently to radiantly heat concrete, wood, rocks, plastics, metals, etc.

IF you use regular forced-air heaters (often the same tungsten filaments found in cheaper radiant dish heaters, nearly all quartz heaters, and heat lamps) you'll be heating most everything via convection through the air which means the larger the room and more objects to heat the more the heater's energy must be divided. That is, 500 watts of directional radiant heat will feel MUCH hotter to someone standing in front of the parabolic dish heater than would standing in front of a forced-air 500 watt heater due to air turbulence and molecules that don't have the opportunity to conduct by colliding into you (think of convection as touch-conduction in a fluid medium where each molecule of air/water/fluid is an individual messenger or heat carrier that drops off/transfers some heat to each thing it bumps into). However, you needn't stand in front of a forced-air heater vs a dish radiant one, but if you don't then the same watt forced-air heater will take a loooong time before you start feeling warm.

Most Metals Reflect Infrared wavelengths similar to a household mirror, which is why a parabolic dish heater's thin metal dish won't feel hot on its backside unless ran for extended lengths of time where convection and the non-100% infrared reflectivity efficiency losses have time to heat it (pure elemental gold metal reflects infrared best at around 95% and is why applied to backside of expensive quartz filament bulbs :)

The BEST filaments for radiant heating of water/humans are the pricier carbon filaments. They have near instant-on heat and generally peak closest to our target 3000nm wavelength we humans like to feel when we stand out in the sunlight warmth. I've not checked whether or not these dishes use carbon vs tungsten, but looks like decent tungsten upon casual inspection.

FYI: Old "radiant" steam heaters are a misnomer since they primarily heat the air by creating a natural heat-rise current in the air (aka: convection heating). Incidentally, this is the same reason why the gap size between double-glass insulating windows is so important since otherwise those windows become mini-convection heat-loss/heat-transfer panels in your wall :)

Try this at home: hold a piece of UNCOATED/UNPAINTED metal in front of a true parabolic dish heater with tongs/whatever such your hand doesnt heat the metal, and at same time place your bare hand at the same safe distance beside it and observe which heats up. Result: metal has barely warmed at all whereas your hand gets toasty fast and if too close even starts to get too hot feeling. If the metal is flat think of it as a mirror---you can make some of the heater's heat "turn a 90-degree corner" like using a mirror but to heat.

Plastics & Radiant Heater CAUTION: Some plastics like common polyethylenes coincidentally absorb infrared radiation optimally at 3500nm (3.5 micron wavelengths) which is near that of water's 3000nm. This means many plastics will absorb and heat as fast as you will in front of heaters like these, which weakens/ages them by fracturing polymer chains.

Finally, for those curious about what differentiates this type of 'radiation' from 'nuclear radiation', remember that any lightbulb (LED, CFL, FL, Incandescent), radiant heater, all radio and TV signals, lasers, x-rays, and of course sunshine is ALL electromagnetic radiation (EM) delivered by way of photons and it is the EM wavelength (energy per photon rather than number of photons) that determines whether the radiation is 'scary'. Scary or bad EM usually means ionizing radiation like UV, x-ray, or worse) whereas non-ionizing EM includes all visible light, infrared, TV/radio, microwaves, etc. Note, however, that right at the border of deep violet visible light and UVB/UVC ultraviolet is non-ioninizing UVA/violets now thought the principle cause of the deadliest melanoma skin cancers fueled by indirect DNA damage of free radicals generated by UVA/violets EM energy and catalysts (such as, ironically, non-metals-based suntan lotion as well as other naturally-occurring compounds in our tissues). Once you get into regular visible light and longer wavelengths (radio, microwaves, etc.) most people believe to be safe as the energy per photon falls to such low levels. Nuclear radiation, on the other hand, is entirely different yet and deals with non-EM particle radiation (e.g., stray neutron bombardment) which is extra 'scary' of course and not found in our heaters or lights LOL (unless you bought a second-hand looted chernobyl-irradiated heater I suppose).

Hope that helps. :-)

This is a radiant heater, designed to throw a "beam of heat". As a science teacher explained in junior high some 40 years ago, they do not heat the air or a room, but the objects in the path. If you are looking to warm a room, especially quickly, you want a forced air ceramic/quartz heater. If you want to warm yourself in an otherwise cold room, this is your baby. Sadly, almost every time I go to CostCo, I see someone returning one of these. Reading reviews of similar products on the web, it is clear that many folks have no clue about radiant heaters.

Like one of the other reviewers, I bought this at CostCo but for some friends who smoked on their patio and froze during the winter. They've both passed on now and their relatives gave it back to me. (I also have one in my shop.)

Our furnace is out at the moment and it is doubtful we can afford to fix it before winter is over. Here in Las Vegas it is currently 41 outside with an expected low tonight of 29. Last night it was 21.

I'm sitting here writing this with this heater about six feet from me and on medium. I'm comfortable (and shirtless) even though it is only in the low 60s in the house. (We have a couple of oil filled heaters.) My right side (heater side) is hot to the touch, my left side is cool. Over all though, I'm comfortable.

Where this unit excels is in my shop which is basically a walled in carport, but walled in by louvers. I.E. it's 41 in my shop. But I just aim this at my workbench from about six feet away and stay toasty while there at the bench.

My wife is a lizard. Very cold blooded and is always cold if the room temp is below 80. All I have to do is aim this at her on the couch and she's warm and toasty without driving me out of the room.

If you use these types of heaters as intended, they are more than enough to cook you.

The one thing I really like about these is that at full power, they only consume 1,000 watts. Our oil filled and ceramic/quartz heaters start at 900 watts on low and go up to 1,500 watts. That will run up the electric bill (about $100 a month per heater) and two of them on the same circuit will blow our circuit breakers. So using these radiant dish heaters as spot heaters do a better job for less money.

I owned this for about 3 years before it died. Purchased from Costco (there are more reviews on there). It gives off a tremendous amount of heat in a limited space of 3 feet but that's it.

The footlight is pointless and stop working after a year. One of the Costco reviewers had this to say: "Owned a few of these and the experience is the same and matching quite a few others here. This is an effective, LIMITED LIFE, product. It does what it says sends a very nice stream of heat in a very limited direction. BUT it has a limited life span of 1-3 years, depending on use and luck.

The problem always seems to come down to a faulty "tip" sensor, so that the "alarm feature" meant to warn you that the device has fallen off its perch goes off continuously, rendering the device useless. Clearly Presto has skimped on parts there and has little interest in correcting this as evidenced by user reports of this problem going back years... .

Note to Presto spend a few more pennies on parts and design improvement, and a few less on the marketing required to re-package the exact same thing every year and you have a winner here. As is however, strcitly, buyer beware."

I couldn't agree more.

Honest reviews on Presto HeatDish Parabolic Electric Space Heater Plus Footlight

We purchased this two years ago for use primarily in the office, which happens to be one of our cooler rooms. It works very well for this. It is plugged in on the opposite wall and directed towards the desk which is approximately 8/10 feet away. You must remember it heats objects in the room not necessarily the room. If you are sitting/working at the same place it will keep you very comfortable. It makes a small hum when it comes on but not annoying. We have two other older coil type space heaters and an infra ray one. They all use more electricity than this one--1000w vs 1500w or 2000w. However, they do heat an area and not an object. So it depends on what your needs are: moving around more, space heaters might be better. In the same area most of the time, then the Parabolic would be my choice. It has three heat levels and off which gives a very good temperature range. It has a night light that I feel is not needed but it is only a 1.5 v bulb. I guess the only thing I sometimes think would be nice is if it was oscillating. This is the second winter and so far so good.

Like many of the other users on here, I purchased this from Costco. I bought it about 2 years ago and just recently caught the first sign of its imminent demise, the footlight has stopped working and the buzzer started malfunctioning. Based on other comments I've read, it appears this is fairly common, so you should know that this product seems to have a ~2 year lifespan. Not bad, not great.

So ignoring it's lifespan issues, I have exactly two complaints:

1) Very limited ability to direct the heat the heat dish has a fixed angle and elevation, so if you want to prop this up and have it warm you while you're sleeping, you can't. So it pretty much only works if you're directly in the beams path.

2) No incremental heat the dial on top of the heat dish appears to have gradual levels of heat. This is an illusion. The dish actually has 4 modes: off, low, medium, and hot. Low is unusable because you have to be hugging the dish to get any heat. Medium is the only usable one, although you have to move the dish around every few minutes to avoid burning any one part of your body. Finally Hot is only useful if you're interested in setting your house on fire. Realistically, it's only useful at great distances and very short periods of time, otherwise you will actually burn your legs and face.

Some positive aspects include the really good range, and its ability to get hot fairly quickly. Overall, I felt the heat dish was very useful and worth the money, but my two complaints prevent it from being a great product.

As a side note, this heat dish (even in Medium mode) will probably literally set fire to leather, so keep that in mind if you planned to use the heat dish near a leather office chair.

Nowhere is it written for one time use.

Ordered this in December. Self sealed with 2 metal prongs on the bottom. Worked fine the first time water escaped the sink while doing laundry. Not very loud though. But after I took it out of the water it kept ringing. Tried to dry it with paper towels, ring it dry etc, but it kept ringing. after 4hrs finally died and has stopped working. Called the company and they are refunding me the price of one device, but won't ever use it it again.

We have been using these for over 3 years. They sound a very loud alarm at the slightest presence of water. Even a small spray from a spray bottle will set them off. I have to make sure whatever they're on is very dry after cleaning the area so they won't go off. Wish I had them in our former house when the water line to the refrigerator had a puncture and caused a lot of damage.

USB LAPTOP HEATING HAND GLOVES

I am really happy with these fuzzy blue Pooh Bear gloves. I am wearing them right now. To put them on, open the Velcro tabs on the bottom and slide in your hands. There are holes on each side for thumbs and pinky fingers. Plug the USB cord into your USB outlet. That's it.

PROS: They are cozy and heat up very quickly. The warmth is not too hot or too cold on the backs of my hands. I can definitely feel the comforting heat radiating out from the USB connection. I can really hope the heat continues to work (USB heating appliances have a tendency to stop working after a bit).

I was really happy with the price. Even with the shipping cost, these gloves are still the best price on Amazon. If you can handle having cutesy gloves, this is an excellent buy.

Personally I don't mind the cuteness. It makes me smile and the blue velvety material is very soft and cozy. I feel like I have paws. :)

It's still very easy to use the computer mouse, since the bottom of the gloves have no padding, just a thin layer of fuzzy material. The tops of the gloves are padded, which is fine and helps retain the heat.

These are not children's size gloves. They fit fine on my small adult women's hands. I think a man could manage to get his hands in them, since there is a Velcro tab that expands. I suppose if one has very large hands they could just leave the tabs open.

A very cool part of the tabs under my wrist is that they are also padded, so they help make a comfortable little 'pillow' that feels ergonomically comfortable.

When wearing the gloves, it's easy to remove the cords from the 'paws' and unplug the USB unit. So you could wear these without using the heater if you wanted to walk around but retain your hand heat.

CONS: Since the cords are tethered together near my hands, I only have about a foot's distance between them for actually using my hands. I am adapting by remembering to use my hands together, so I do not pull apart the cord. I really would like this product to last. :)

There are 'bear ears' on the sides of both gloves, which make it a wee bit hard to see the keys on my keyboard. I do know where the keys are without looking, but if someone did not, this would make typing pretty difficult. I will caveat that I use a small netbook, so my keyboard is smaller than for most people.

One note: you do have to connect the cords to the gloves before slipping them on. It's very awkward to try to connect the cords to the gloves while wearing them. So this is just a matter of getting used to the process of putting them on.

My thoughts: I bought these USB gloves specifically to use with my solar heating system. My goal is to decrease my home wattage to the point where I can put my home studio on solar power only. I have been reading about creating heat bubbles around one's workspace, where you heat your hands, feet and face, and then wear a lap blanket and sweater. It's an exciting project! I have my plug in DC thermal blanket for my lap, or to sit on, and will be looking into low wattage USB personal heaters next. So far I am thrilled with these silly, cute little gloves and imagine they will be an integral part of my winter system.

These arrived yesterday and heat up in a satisfyingly warm way. I like them. When purchased, price point with shipping was $5-6ish. It's worth that, and not more than that. No comment on durability (arrived yesterday).

I would point out that the description says "wool" and these are totally polyester, except that the blue fake-fur fluff is so obviously far from wool you'd have to be pretty credulous to even consider taking the description seriously.

Cons:

They're huge. Despite the cutesy blue fur, little ears, and embroidered bear, these are not for kids. I have normal-to-small ladysize hands, and my fingers only poke out to the second knuckle. Laid flat, ear span is about 5 inches. The wrist closure is velcro, and padded.

The heating pad is only a 2.25 x 2.75 inch insert on the back of the hands, the fingers stick out, the palms of the hand are only warm because they're covered in fur.

Pros:

They heat up quickly to a noticably warm temperature that is not quite hot enough to be uncomfortable on bare skin.

The wires can be unplugged (though the plug point is a bit awkward, too close to the wrist to reach the jack while you're wearing it)

The heating pads are just tucked in a little pouch, with velcro closure. Held securely but easily removable. This is probably so you can wash your bears without endangering the electronics. I'm sure no-one would ever remove the heating pads and install them in better gloves, no matter how easy it would be to ditch the tacky bears. Not me, definitely not.

Originally when I found the "Toasty Handwarmers" on a different website I thought it was a wondeful idea, but did not really want to spend thirty dollars on the product. So I came and searched on here and found these. Right out of the box they work wonderfully and heat up quickly. The only real flaw is that your fingers are exposed and will probably remain chilly on a cold night, however this isn't the only product with that flaw and for such a great price who can really complain? They're a little cutesy, but I personally love them. Happy with my purchase.

I purchased these gloves for myself for use on my job. When the AC is on full my work area can get quite chilly and the gloves allow me to continue working while keeping my hands, to keep my hands warm.

These keep my hands warm at the computer quite effectively. The only thing I don't like is the design...I'd much rather have solid blue ones than this almost-definitely-IP-infringing Pooh Bear design, but alas, these were the cheapest ones I could find. Definitely worth the money, even if they're too dorky to wear outside of the house.
