Haier 14,000 BTU Commercial Cool Portable Air Conditioner Reviews
Haier CPN14XC99 Portable Air Conditioner review
The recent midwestern heat wave sealed the deal to buy this unit. Costco.com's price was simply unbeatable anywhere else on the web for such an air conditioner. The closest online price on a comparable 14,000 BTU portable A/C was almost one hundred dollars more, for a lesser-known brand.
The Costco.com site proffered that shipping would take 4 days to our ZIP code. The unit was delivered via UPS on the second day after ordering. The driver left it outside our back door. Ordered on Tuesday morning. Delivered on Thursday morning. In the middle of a heat wave. Imagine that.
The CPN14XC99 is substantially bigger than it looks online, and it is heavy-about 95 pounds in the box and about 83 pounds unboxed. Removing the unit from the box required first opening the top flaps and removing the inner box containing the window panels, hoses, hose adapters and documentation; then cutting on a dotted line around the bottom of the box and then lifting the box off the unit. What is left is the air conditioner itself standing in a little island of cardboard and styrofoam about 4 inches high.
There are plastic packing straps running under the unit inside the box to assist in lifting the unit off the remaining styrofoam and cardboard. However I cut the strap while cutting the box open, rendering the straps useless. I bet that happens to a lot of buyers of this unit. I lifted the unit in a bear hug and my wife kicked away the packaging.
Upon inspection, we found that the remote control was missing... or so we thought. We looked everywhere-it wasn't in the inner box with the panels, adapters and hoses, although the batteries were there with the documentation. It wasn't in some cranny in the box's styrofoam, nor in the outer box. To all appearances, we had no remote control. We called the 800 number on the documentation and spoke to a CSR who informed us that he could not send us a remote, and that the people who could would not be in until Monday morning (this was a Friday evening). So we decided to set it up and use it without the remote. We could always call back on Monday.
The CPN14XC99's casters roll easily over hard wood floor and low-pile carpet. It took about 40 minutes and a little ingenuity to fit, assemble and install the window panels. The instructions are not clear, but it is not difficult to figure out with a little thought. The panels included with the CPN14XC99 were just a tiny bit too wide for our double-hung windows, but reversing the short sliding panel allowed for a snug fit in the window frame while extending just a fraction of an inch over the intake hose adapter vent.
There are two hoses, each with one connection adapter attached at one end. The user has to attach the other connection onto the bare end of each hose. I don't know why. If they are going to attach a connector to one end, why not just attach them to both ends of both hoses and ship them that way? There are no instructions on how to attach the adapters to the hoses, so here's how you do it: simply extend the bare end of the hose and screw the adapter over the corrugations until it is secure (almost all the way). That will save you the time and trouble of trying to push or pull it in like I did.
I attached both hoses to the window panel and the A/C, plugged it into the wall and pressed the Power button on the front of the machine. Nothing. I checked the reset button on the plug. The plug (yes, the plug) beeped to say it had power. Went back to the front panel, pressed the button. Nothing. Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. Upon further examination of the front panel, I noticed that there was a piece of strapping tape over it. I pulled the tape off and the front panel came off in my hand. It was the remote, tucked safely into its compartment in the front of the unit! Under the remote were the real panel buttons. A press of that power button brought everything to life, and after installing the batteries in the remote, it worked just fine also.
The CPN14XC99 is installed upstairs in the southwest corner room of our old farmhouse. This is the room that gets the most sun exposure from late morning through sunset. It is also the office with most of the heat-generating computer gear. Within one-half hour of powering up the unit, the temperature in the room dropped from 87.5° F to a chilly 69.8°. It also seems to be cooling the rest of the upstairs (two other rooms, a hallway and a bathroom).
Three days later, with heat and humidity around the clock (temps well over ninety, with dew points close to eighty degrees leading to heat indexes approaching or even exceeding 110°) the CPN14XC99 has had its hands full keeping up. It has not faltered or hiccuped at all.
It is a little noisy when the compressor kicks in, but no more than any other window or portable A/C. Three fan speeds are remarkably effective at controlling how quickly temperatures change (or are steadily maintained) in the room. Have not tried the dehumidifier function nor the timer function so far. Nor have I tried using it with only the exhaust hose hooked up as some other buyers have advised. One last positive: we can still conveniently open the window when temperatures drop next week.
So those are the pros.
The only con I have to offer is the lack of lighting on the remote. Without memorizing the six buttons, the remote is worse than useless in a dark room.

I cannot speak highly enough of this unit in the unbelievable muggy, long-term heat wave of July, 2012. As of today, the temperature has finally dropped to more "normal" levels with the same predicted for the rest of the week. But all last month was really bad. Practically all of July provided unrelenting misery with its day-and-night combination of heat, humidity and high dew points. Even when the temperatures dropped, the humidity remained so high that minor physical efforts drenched clothing in sweat and smooth surfaces everywhere stuck to flesh like glue.
Through all of this, this year-old A/C unit provided continuous relief and protected our office electronics from the air's heavy moisture content. Inside our 12x13' office (described earlier), the unit's dehumidifier function was amazing. We could easily detect the change in the air within seconds of turning it on. The only issue for us was that the dehumidifier automatically sets the temperature level to 75° F, which was a few degrees too cold, even without desktop fans running. Seriously, in two years I feel as though we have gotten our money's worth out of this thing. I hope it last another ten years, but even if it doesn't, I have no buyers remorse at all.
The only con I'd mention is that it never shuts off. It has a temp you set it to and once it reaches that temp, it turns to fan mode. But as long as the power is on, it will run 24x7. I do wish it would turn off once reaching the set temp and back on when needed but other than that it works fantastically. It is a bit loud and extremely heavy. I could not possibly carry it upstairs by myself had to get help. So it's 'portable' as long as you are rolling it from room to room on the same floor, I'd say.

Funny thing about this unit. The entire first summer I had it, I was so disappointed at it's lack of cooling capability. It couldn't get my small bedroom more than 2 degrees cooler. The second year I pulled it back out of the garage and was cleaning it up and realized it has a vent on the top of the unit that when you pull it up, allows all of the cool air to come out. Once I did that, it was an unbelievable difference! Although I felt extremely silly for never having realized the vent was there, now that it's been open this summer I can set the unit temp at 65 and curl up on my blankets nice and cool every night. During the day, I open my bedroom door and aim it to blow down the hallway and it keeps my whole upstairs around 73 or so which is reasonable given the size of the floor. Even while cooling the whole upstairs, it still keeps my bedroom at cool 65!The only con I'd mention is that it never shuts off. It has a temp you set it to and once it reaches that temp, it turns to fan mode. But as long as the power is on, it will run 24x7. I do wish it would turn off once reaching the set temp and back on when needed but other than that it works fantastically. It is a bit loud and extremely heavy. I could not possibly carry it upstairs by myself had to get help. So it's 'portable' as long as you are rolling it from room to room on the same floor, I'd say.

A Colorado room that faces west gets the summer sun and heats up horribly. This one fits in the vertical casement windows and on a 100° day the temperature in the 10 x 12 reached a low enough point the A/C unit shut off completely. while it does cool, mine does not get rid of humidity, in fact, when the a/c is running it pumps more humidity (like upwards of 15% higher than in the rest of the house) in rather than removing it. Now I have to run a dehumidifier at the same time just to try and keep the humidity at a bearable level. I would recommend one with the actual bucket you have to empty over this at least that way you know that the water isnt being pumped back into the air.

Assembly was simple and well spelled out
It works just as advertised . Heats our room in an instant . The kids love the flame and the heat . My oldest like that she can sit in front and not smell smoke. Everyone compliments it . Not only is it beutiful but Amazon customer service saved the day .A little back story . We ordered this fireplace as our home did not come with a fireplace . My children wondered how Santa was going to deliver the presents . Just days before Christmas Amazon contacted me to advise that the original shipment would need to be replaced due to the carrier error . Just in the nick of time , no pun intended , the fireplace arrived and Santa delivered . Thanks Amazon
Now, if you're lucky enough to actually get through to a live rep, cross your fingers again that your problem wont require them sending out a rep to fix it, because you will be told to expect a call in one-to-two-days to set up an appointment (they wont give you the number to call yourself, you must wait for the call). But then the call doesn't come and you realize that your only recourse is to call Dimplex. Now your back to going on hold for two hours again.
The good news though is that if your fireplace breaks down in the middle of summer when you don't use it, you'll be able to get right through to one of their reps.

We are really pleased with our fireplace. It looks great in our living room. We live in a small townhouse, and the fireplace keeps the living room toasty. The heat output begins immediately to move the ceiling fan on it's own, as the heat rises. The furnace now rarely runs. The bedrooms are cool, which is how we like it. We live in South Carolina, so winter nights are cool but not frigid. Our electric bill (furnace is an electric heat exchanger) was less than expected last month. If you buy a Dimplex product, cross your fingers that nothing breaks because if you have to call their customer service/technical support you are in for wild ride. I love my fireplace, it is beautifully made and keeps my living room warm. My heat is in the ceiling so it always seemed cool. Now in the evening I turn the furnace way down and the fireplace keeps the room very comfortable. I highly recommend it. I absolutely love the Simply Automated product lineup. You will not find any other product that allows more customization and configuration options. The UPStart software makes it a breeze to set them up. I am slowly replacing every switch in my house with a Simply Automated UPB device. I currently have 28 devices and I'm about to buy my 29th. It's becoming an addiction. These devices are rock solid. I have never had one fail. I use them in conjunction with my HAI Omni IIe automation system. AirWolf 5-in-1 Air System Reviews
I purchased one of these Airwolf 5-in-1 Air Systems last year and have yet to find a supplier for the filters needed for this machine, thinking that surely the manufacturer would sell the filters. I have been unable to contact the manufacturer because there is no phone number or website with info on where to buy the filters. I have been buying larger filters from a local hardware store and modifying/cutting them to fit this unit. Be sure you can find and buy the correct filters for this machine before you buy it, or you'll have to make your own filters.
Heater
I will say that the heater is not as good as I would have liked it to be, but it does get the job done. One thing that would have made it better is a thermostat. And I have noticed a difference in the comfort level of my room when running the heater and humidifier together.
Air Purifier
The air purifier is actually one of the best features of this unit. The fact that you can run the purifier with all modes is a plus. However, you cannot use the Ionizer and the heater at the same time. And for anyone that has had/used an ionizer that is what makes the room smell so good. Kinda like just after a rain storm. And add to that a UV sanitizer, which kills viruses, bacteria and tiny little critters that the HEPA filter may have missed.
Fan
What can I say, it blows air. Nothing special here.
Humidifier
I like this feature , it uses evaporation technology. Which does seem to add humidity to the air but will not actually produce a stream of water. Which is a big plus. When water vapor goes into the air it tends to collect on surfaces and just makes things wet.
Cooler
It's not gotten hot yet, but in my experience this will probably work just fine. Put cold water in the tray and it should help cool the room. It's no A/C so don't expect to get freezing cold, but it should help take 10-20 degrees off the temp.
All in all its a decent unit. You could easily spend several hundred more dollars and get a separate unit for each function and they will do their job great. But for an all in one the price isn't bad and it does get the job done.
My only complaints are that is is a little loud and the the front of it looks like a Christmas tree and is fairly bright. Not the best when you have it in your bedroom. But putting a towel over the front takes care of that. And the remote still works. Which brings me to my last complaint. And it's not really a complaint, just an idea to improve on the design. The remote should at least be Illuminated, or not round. In the dark you can't tell which buttons you are pushing. If it wasn't round you could at least figure out where the buttons are by memory. And you cannot turn on/off the UV from the remote, Another bad design flaw. But not a deal breaker.
Like I said earlier, this machine is a Jack of all Trades , and Master of none.

THE DAY THAT I RECEIVED THIS 5IN 1 AIR SYSTEM, MY BEEDROOM TEMP WAS 91 degrees, so programed this junk on cold air for the max time[7hrs]. so I went to bed. four hrs. later I woke up in a pool of sweat and it was still 91 degrees in my bedroom. ok the next night the temp dropped 40 degrees [in Vermont] so I programed this piece of junk to heat,to the max of time again. now are you all ready for this???. after the unit kicked in ,it kicked off. I tried to get this unit to work 5 more times and it kicked of all 5 times. so than I said the hell with unit. the next day I called their 800 # and all I got was a busy signal and I called from 8am to 8pm for 3 days,same thing. also the web address they supplied does not exist. thank god for amazon,i called them and they took care of this matter with no problem. This is a great little stove! It heats up quickly. You really have to be carefully and not touch the stove as the directions states because the metal on the outside get very hot. Be sure to keep it sitting on a smooth flat surface so that the air can circulate around it! Takes up little space on the counter. It also seems to be quite sturdy as I have already had the misfortune of dropping it, but it still heats right up. It surely deserves 5 stars!

This little stove certainly gets the job done...but I would have preferred to spend a little more money for one that had varied temperature settings. Now I can do my hair all in my room. Before I had to keep going into the kitchen, then wait for the comb to cool down, then take it back into the kitchen, etc. This added probably an hour to my hair time. Now I just heat up my comb in my room with my mirrors and other hair products and I can get it done in about two hours rather than 3!This stove gets REALLY hot though. Don't touch the outside and make sure it's not around anything flammable. It's very sturdy, seems like it will last me a while. I am pleased!

Hi Natural Sisters! If you need one of these then you are doing an old fashioned press n curl! : ) or something like that. Anyhoo I remember back in the day when we would use the kitchen stove. I just bought a thermal flat iron (*note when we say "thermal" that means uses a stove and has marcel handles, some folks say" Marcel Irons", it's all where you are from). The reason why a thermal iron is often preferred is the iron quality. Quality iron is what produces a good finish. Electric irons use a different type of metal plate that does not work as well on coarser hair.Well when I pulled mine out of the box I was pleased. I received mine fast because Amazon was the filler. It is true, these ovens are hot hot hot around the outside so be careful. I had to order one because nowadays it's just not proper to use the kitchen stove. So I bought for convenience and i luv it. the price is okay, wish they were cheaper and I wish we made them in the USA. Back in the day the cords were covered in a cloth because the cord can easily burn too if it touches the metal. I NEVER thought being in beauty school in the 80's that we would come back to this way of doing things. But it's good to be natural. Our hair really is beautiful just learn some styling tips on youtube, you can do it.

Review of Kozy World KWP322 25,000-BTU Vent-Free LP-Gas Infrared Wall Heater
The heater looks great. Unfortunately, until I purchased it and red the requirements, I had no idea what was needed in order to connect and use it in my garage. This heater cannot be connected to a supply less than a 100 Lb. tank! I look forward to completing the install in my garage as soon as I finish the drywall & wiring. This heater requires that you create two-vents in the room that it's used-in. One must be 12" from the floor and one must be 12" from the ceiling. Also, take note that using a 100 Lb. Propane Gas Tank will require a "Permit" issued by the local Building inspector...
I purchased a 12 ft hose with regulator and hooked it to my 20 lb propane tank and works just fine,I think the idea behind using a minimum of 100 lb tank is if you are going to heat your house/garage etc you would need it, but for me I just have it for backup heat so I plan on getting a 30 lb tank. The heater works just fine but I do not like the built in fan because on auto it stays on after the heater goes off for that reason I will give it 4 stars.

I put this heater in my insulated garage. It does an excelent job of heating up the entire 2 car garage. My only complaint is that it did state that you needed an external regulator. My preferred method of shopping is online. In ALL my years of online shopping, I have NEVER had any item arrive so fast! On top of that, I ordered TWO of these heaters. Needless to say, the boxes were big and bulky. I can't recall whether it was 24 or 48 hours, but they got here fast! The heaters aren't even installed yet, so I can't rate their quality yet (but I will when it gets cold). Based on the shipping alone, YES, I would certainly order from this seller again! I wish I could give this a better rating. The 'jaws' clamp down on the ese pods and make a great cup of espresso. The large water storage unit is clean and a great idea. the only problem was that after approximately 80 cups the pump burned out and the warranty service is in Italy.

I have had this machine for 4 months now and I've used it to demo coffee pods that I sell in multiple small businesses around the area I live in.It has gone through 2 boxes of 200 pods each (so 400 pods) and it has never had a problem. I just like the way it really clamps down on the pods forcing ALL the water and pressure trough the coffee and not out on the sides. It works great for me and the fact that I can just pop in water bottles in the "tank" is just great and avoids a whole lot of mess and spills.
Compared to other machines I've had it just performs better. And I am not sure about after sales assistance, but my guess is that getting in touch with whom it was purchased for should get the help needed, or alternatively, it's not exactly a space rocket, any decent repair shop should be able to fix it.

Be aware that the user must rig a water reservoir for this machine, oddly the design includes only a holding chamber for which user must insert a water bottle or similar improvisation, then run tubes into it. I used liter bottle of water, works fine. Instructions are Italian badly translated English so close attention required. For example user who is baffled by the instructions will pour water into what appears to be reservoir, only to find it runs immediately onto the counter.
