Enjoyed using this magic chef dehydrator for many years to dehydrate, fruit, vegetables and meat perfectly for backpacking meals, but even with rotation of trays and careful cleaning, over time and with repeated usage the trays will begin to warp and crack. Dehydrator tends to have hot spots, plus plastic dehydrator trays and liners absorb tomato-based products causing them to be permanently stained. Replacement trays are no where to be found so will have to buy a new dehydrator.

This dehydrator works very well. You must be home to rotate the trays both in stacked positions and location on the base. One spot seems to be hotter than the rest so must rotate about a quarter of a turn every 2 hours. Once you figure this out works good.

Yes indeed this 1 is the one! It works well beyond what I need and I use this 2x a week to make chicken jerky for my Yorkies. The heat and fan coming from the bottom is the key. The 1 I had before this was a top heat and it started on fire. I kid you not, talk about scary. It has not increased my electric bill running for 6-8 hours at a time either. They say not to put the trays in the dishwasher, but I do on the light setting top rack only for trying to hand clean in between the small grooves even after soaking in hot water, does not work and get all the residue off. That is the only drawback. If I were to do fruits and veggies would not be a big deal to me, but I do chicken , so need to have it super clean. I highly recommend this one for its' quality design with how it dehydrates.

If you've read the majority of the reviews for this product you'll notice there is a consistent problem with the sprayer clogging and no longer working. Here's how to fix it. We originally bought the machine a year and a half ago and it quit spraying after only 2 uses. Bissell replaces it under warranty but the bad thing is that your "new" Little Green is only warranteed for the the rest of the time left on the original one you bought. Of course our replacement quit spraying as well until today when my husband figured out how to fix it. Get some liquid CLR Calcium Lime Rust Remover or Lime-Away product and pour straight into the clean water solution tank. Fill only to about 3/4 of an inch of the CLR in the tank, then turn on the Little Green and push the sprayer button. It will immediately begin spraying again. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, then run the rest of the CLR through. Then run through a tank or two of clean water. The problem is the phosphates in your water that clog the sprayer line. This should get rid of the clogs. I would also follow the advice of running through some clean water before storing your Little Green. Other than the sprayer problem the Little Green is very effective at carpet stains and cleaning.

My partner bought this for our office. We have area rugs over hardwood floors so we didn't need anything very big.

Her husband used it to clean the upholstry in his car and was quite enthusiastic. I used it on an area rug and thought it was only so-so. With no brush action it definitely doesn't deep clean, and while the heated water can be useful you have to be careful because hot water will set some organic stains.

The hose is only 5 1/2 feet long so expect to get on your knees for the carpet stains.

With those caveats, it does what it says, but I would be tempted to pay a little more and get the turbo brush model.

With four dogs and 4 cats we needed something to keep our couch and area rugs looking nice. I was really suprised at how well this product worked! The colors in our couch look "new" again (with the build up of kitty hair-it had a look to it as if you were viewing it with a soft focus lens). It also did a respectible job on our area rugs. Considering the cost of this cleaner, I would say that it is an awesome buy for small cleaning jobs.

Honest reviews on BISSELL 1425A Little Green ProHeat

I had very poor experiences with early Bissell carper steamersreally cheap construction and they leaked everywhere. The compact Little Green line is an exception. Well sealed and easy to operate they are ideal for spot cleaning and upholsterya must for those with pets and little kids who spill and make other kinds of more biological messes. Use the pet shampoo with it for top level cleaning. For general floor shampooing I rent the heavy duty shampooer from Home Depot for $20 every few months and shampoo my rugs using the recommended carper cleaner and a half cup of Tropical Gain laundry detergent. I find the laundry soap in the big machine is so far superior to any home unit I can buy that it is worth the trip to rent it.These little guys are great for little jobsdon't waste your time and money on the bigger ones though.

OK So I bought this little baby before we got our puppy. I had bought it for the 2 cats that we have and thought it might come in handy for little messes.

My wife bought me a puppy for Christmas, and since then I wll say that I thank myself every day for deciding to buy the Little Green. I have used it almost every day since our puppy arrived, and it works great! Takes out every stain that the little girl can throw at it (at trust me she has thrown a lot!). I wouldn't reccomend it for large surface area cleaning since it would take for ever and there would be a lot of work constantly filling the clean side and dumping the dirty side. But for those little messes, it works like a champ. Haven't had any problems or leaks, but I have only had this for a little over a month. So far it has been well worth what I paid!

Best Honeywell Ceramic Surround Heater (HZ-435) Deals

Honeywell Ceramic Surround Heater
Customer Ratings: 3 stars
Buy Now
I bought this heater in November 2012. It's run well for the most part. But it has some problems, which I've listed below.

The most recent problem, described below, was severe enough that I decided to return or exchange it. It was supposed to be warrantied for a year, so I dug up the receipt, only to find that although the warrantee was good for a year, the receipt had expired! Which makes the "warranty" worthless. (My mistake, I bought it from Target, a store with a terrible return policy.) (This is Target's fault of course, not the manufacturer's). I could send it back to the manufacturer, but the postage would cost almost as much as the heater.

Summing things up:

1) WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS HEATER:

* It heats effectively. I don't know how it would do in a huge room, but it heats my small living room quickly and effectively, even on low. It's 49 degrees outside tonight, cold and windy, but toasty (over 74 degrees) in my living room. I'm sitting on my couch in the buff typing this. (The heater's been on for three hours, on low.) I'm getting spoiled by the very pleasant warmth the heater produces.

* The fan distributes the heat well.

* It's lightweight and easy to move around.

* It has a safety feature designed to turn it off it it tips over.

* An interesting feature is that you can set this heater to warm up the whole room, including the area behind it or just the 180 degrees in front. (When you set it for 360 degrees, the fan blows out of both the front and back).) Either way it heats the whole room in short order, especially a small room. Electric heaters really have improved over the years. Ceramic electric heaters in particular are nice for heating up a room quickly and evenly.

2) WHAT I DISLIKE ABOUT THIS HEATER:

* It's really not an attractive design, and I don't think most people would want it in their living space. It would look better in a shop or garage than in a nice living room.

* The box says it's a Honeywell heater, which is part of why I bought it, but in reality, it's made by a smaller company. When I called Honeywell trying to register the purchase and warranty, I was told that they had nothing to do with it, they had not manufactured it, they were just leasing their brand name to this company to use. They gave me the other company's number and hung up. They made it clear that Honeywell does NOT stand behind it and won't help if it has problems.

* It has thermostat and timer problems. Some of them are pretty bad, i.e.:

* When I set it on timer, sometimes it acts like it's on thermostat and starts turning on and off randomly (and loudly), every few seconds. (Other times it seems fine, and doesn't do this.)

* When I set it thermostat, it's supposed to stop when the room reaches the desired temperature, but it doesn't always do so; sometimes it keeps right on heating, so the room might get up to 80 degrees when I've set the thermostat for 71 degrees. So I'd be cautious about using it as a heater in a child's bedroom.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The 2011 version of this heater was recalled. If the date stamp on the metal prongs where you plug it in end in 11, do not use it, It's defective.

Haier 14,000 BTU Commercial Cool Portable Air Conditioner Reviews

Haier 14,000 BTU Commercial Cool Portable Air Conditioner

Haier CPN14XC99 Portable Air Conditioner review

The recent midwestern heat wave sealed the deal to buy this unit. Costco.com's price was simply unbeatable anywhere else on the web for such an air conditioner. The closest online price on a comparable 14,000 BTU portable A/C was almost one hundred dollars more, for a lesser-known brand.

The Costco.com site proffered that shipping would take 4 days to our ZIP code. The unit was delivered via UPS on the second day after ordering. The driver left it outside our back door. Ordered on Tuesday morning. Delivered on Thursday morning. In the middle of a heat wave. Imagine that.

The CPN14XC99 is substantially bigger than it looks online, and it is heavy-about 95 pounds in the box and about 83 pounds unboxed. Removing the unit from the box required first opening the top flaps and removing the inner box containing the window panels, hoses, hose adapters and documentation; then cutting on a dotted line around the bottom of the box and then lifting the box off the unit. What is left is the air conditioner itself standing in a little island of cardboard and styrofoam about 4 inches high.

There are plastic packing straps running under the unit inside the box to assist in lifting the unit off the remaining styrofoam and cardboard. However I cut the strap while cutting the box open, rendering the straps useless. I bet that happens to a lot of buyers of this unit. I lifted the unit in a bear hug and my wife kicked away the packaging.

Upon inspection, we found that the remote control was missing... or so we thought. We looked everywhere-it wasn't in the inner box with the panels, adapters and hoses, although the batteries were there with the documentation. It wasn't in some cranny in the box's styrofoam, nor in the outer box. To all appearances, we had no remote control. We called the 800 number on the documentation and spoke to a CSR who informed us that he could not send us a remote, and that the people who could would not be in until Monday morning (this was a Friday evening). So we decided to set it up and use it without the remote. We could always call back on Monday.

The CPN14XC99's casters roll easily over hard wood floor and low-pile carpet. It took about 40 minutes and a little ingenuity to fit, assemble and install the window panels. The instructions are not clear, but it is not difficult to figure out with a little thought. The panels included with the CPN14XC99 were just a tiny bit too wide for our double-hung windows, but reversing the short sliding panel allowed for a snug fit in the window frame while extending just a fraction of an inch over the intake hose adapter vent.

There are two hoses, each with one connection adapter attached at one end. The user has to attach the other connection onto the bare end of each hose. I don't know why. If they are going to attach a connector to one end, why not just attach them to both ends of both hoses and ship them that way? There are no instructions on how to attach the adapters to the hoses, so here's how you do it: simply extend the bare end of the hose and screw the adapter over the corrugations until it is secure (almost all the way). That will save you the time and trouble of trying to push or pull it in like I did.

I attached both hoses to the window panel and the A/C, plugged it into the wall and pressed the Power button on the front of the machine. Nothing. I checked the reset button on the plug. The plug (yes, the plug) beeped to say it had power. Went back to the front panel, pressed the button. Nothing. Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. Upon further examination of the front panel, I noticed that there was a piece of strapping tape over it. I pulled the tape off and the front panel came off in my hand. It was the remote, tucked safely into its compartment in the front of the unit! Under the remote were the real panel buttons. A press of that power button brought everything to life, and after installing the batteries in the remote, it worked just fine also.

The CPN14XC99 is installed upstairs in the southwest corner room of our old farmhouse. This is the room that gets the most sun exposure from late morning through sunset. It is also the office with most of the heat-generating computer gear. Within one-half hour of powering up the unit, the temperature in the room dropped from 87.5° F to a chilly 69.8°. It also seems to be cooling the rest of the upstairs (two other rooms, a hallway and a bathroom).

Three days later, with heat and humidity around the clock (temps well over ninety, with dew points close to eighty degrees leading to heat indexes approaching or even exceeding 110°) the CPN14XC99 has had its hands full keeping up. It has not faltered or hiccuped at all.

It is a little noisy when the compressor kicks in, but no more than any other window or portable A/C. Three fan speeds are remarkably effective at controlling how quickly temperatures change (or are steadily maintained) in the room. Have not tried the dehumidifier function nor the timer function so far. Nor have I tried using it with only the exhaust hose hooked up as some other buyers have advised. One last positive: we can still conveniently open the window when temperatures drop next week.

So those are the pros.

The only con I have to offer is the lack of lighting on the remote. Without memorizing the six buttons, the remote is worse than useless in a dark room.

[Edited, August 08, 2012]: Over one year on and the Haier continues to prove its worth in one of the worst heat waves and drought in Wisconsin history. I cannot speak highly enough of this unit in the unbelievable muggy, long-term heat wave of July, 2012. As of today, the temperature has finally dropped to more "normal" levels with the same predicted for the rest of the week. But all last month was really bad. Practically all of July provided unrelenting misery with its day-and-night combination of heat, humidity and high dew points. Even when the temperatures dropped, the humidity remained so high that minor physical efforts drenched clothing in sweat and smooth surfaces everywhere stuck to flesh like glue.

Through all of this, this year-old A/C unit provided continuous relief and protected our office electronics from the air's heavy moisture content. Inside our 12x13' office (described earlier), the unit's dehumidifier function was amazing. We could easily detect the change in the air within seconds of turning it on. The only issue for us was that the dehumidifier automatically sets the temperature level to 75° F, which was a few degrees too cold, even without desktop fans running. Seriously, in two years I feel as though we have gotten our money's worth out of this thing. I hope it last another ten years, but even if it doesn't, I have no buyers remorse at all.

Funny thing about this unit. The entire first summer I had it, I was so disappointed at it's lack of cooling capability. It couldn't get my small bedroom more than 2 degrees cooler. The second year I pulled it back out of the garage and was cleaning it up and realized it has a vent on the top of the unit that when you pull it up, allows all of the cool air to come out. Once I did that, it was an unbelievable difference! Although I felt extremely silly for never having realized the vent was there, now that it's been open this summer I can set the unit temp at 65 and curl up on my blankets nice and cool every night. During the day, I open my bedroom door and aim it to blow down the hallway and it keeps my whole upstairs around 73 or so which is reasonable given the size of the floor. Even while cooling the whole upstairs, it still keeps my bedroom at cool 65!

The only con I'd mention is that it never shuts off. It has a temp you set it to and once it reaches that temp, it turns to fan mode. But as long as the power is on, it will run 24x7. I do wish it would turn off once reaching the set temp and back on when needed but other than that it works fantastically. It is a bit loud and extremely heavy. I could not possibly carry it upstairs by myself had to get help. So it's 'portable' as long as you are rolling it from room to room on the same floor, I'd say.

Best Deals on Haier 14,000 BTU Commercial Cool Portable Air Conditioner

Purchased this unit for three reasons. We live in a remote area which is

both vulnerable to power failures and at the end of the line for repair

if a problem occurs. Our backup generator will run the house and

a portable heater/AC but not the heat pump. The unit is perfect for this

and the dehumidificstion function is a bonus.

Works perfectly so far and the dual hose capability is a great feature.

Honest reviews on Haier 14,000 BTU Commercial Cool Portable Air Conditioner

A Colorado room that faces west gets the summer sun and heats up horribly. This one fits in the vertical casement windows and on a 100° day the temperature in the 10 x 12 reached a low enough point the A/C unit shut off completely. Took about 2 hours to get there from full temperature, so it was a challenge that was not easily met.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Haier 14,000 BTU Commercial Cool Portable Air Conditioner

while it does cool, mine does not get rid of humidity, in fact, when the a/c is running it pumps more humidity (like upwards of 15% higher than in the rest of the house) in rather than removing it. Now I have to run a dehumidifier at the same time just to try and keep the humidity at a bearable level. I would recommend one with the actual bucket you have to empty over this at least that way you know that the water isnt being pumped back into the air.

I used two of these this last spring, and I was extremely happy. My previous year, I used another system for heat, and I had problems with overheating and heat retention.

For those who reported problems with seedlings growing too fast or falling over and dying, I would like to know the larger picture--did you address the potential problem of damping off? And did you provide a grow light at the appropriate height?

I researched several options to address damping off, since that was a huge problem for me last year. I microwaved all of my moistened starting mix, roughly 10 minutes per 2 quarts of moistened soil. If you bake this in an oven, I recommend 30 minutes at roughly 350 degrees. I also bleached and washed any pots that had been previously used. After the seedlings emerged, I sprinkled cinnamon on the surface, and I had no problems with damping off. I was particularly concerned about damping off since there was quite a bit of condensation inside the domes. However, I cleared the condensation at least twice daily, and I did not lose any seedlings out of roughly 150 starts. This was on top of 100% germination, so I gave away lots of starts this year!

I used these for squash, peppers, tomatoes, herbs, eggplants, some flowers, soybeans, shiso, chard, and cucumbers. After transplanting starts into larger pots, I continued to use the heating pad and base for the larger pots. I also had simple fluorescent grow lights that I maintained at proper heights for the plants. You should keep the lights within 2" of the plants, or the plants will be reaching too far for light and will become spindly--a particular problem for tomatoes. For these units, you really need a 4-bulb grow light or the starts on the edges will not receive sufficient light. I had to search around but found a 4-bulb, 4' shop light for a grow light, and I was thrilled with the coverage over these units. No need to buy "grow lights", just alternate cool and warm wavelength fluorescent bulbs.

Because of an unusually cold spring and early summer, I kept my peppers and eggplants inside until mid-June, and a few of them were already blooming and looking extremely healthy. The tallest were roughly 8" tall. The heating pads were wonderful for the peppers and eggplants in particular, but I know the squash also germinated much better because of the heat.

I strongly recommend not using the seed starting mix that is designed for peat pots, unless you use the peat pots in your units. If you use the peat pot starting mix, it will fall all over the place and away from the roots when you pull out your seedlings to transplant them.

Sure, you can make something similar to this with off-the-shelving parts, but I am not commenting on alternatives, just commenting on performance of this system. I highly recommend it but only if you provide appropriate grow lights and address potential damping off.

Although it may seem a little over priced, it is the convenience that you pay for. The product is exactly what it shows, a plastic tub with a plastic top, plastic dirt moldings, and a heating pad. If you think about the price of the heating pad that fits perfectly with the container, it is well worth the while.

In addition, I have had success with this product. I grow indoor coffee, and I have received a much quicker germination rate; as well as being healthier. Furthermore, it gives you great control of not only temperature, but humidity. In my opinion, that is a major plus.

Best Deals on Hydrofarm CK64050 Germination Station with Heat Mat

First, when the package says it comes with an insert, that means the 72-cell tray you put potting mix in, not the potting mix itself.

Second, you're supposed to take the clear plastic lid off once your plants germinate. That's why there's no room for the seedlings to grow under it. (Though the packaging does feature a tray full of robust seedlings under the lid, which may confuse people who can't be troubled to read the instructions.)

With that out of the way, this product does exactly what it promises. The heat mat warms the tray a bit, but not too much. The tray's cells are the right size for tiny seedlings, the kind that need a heat pad, and soft enough that you can pop the seedlings out without much effort.

The whole contraption fits perfectly under the Hydrofarm JSV2 2-Foot Jump Start T5 Grow Light System. If you buy a Hydrofarm TM01715D 7-Day Digital Program Timer, you can plug both the light and the heat mat into it to have the 14-hour light-warm/dark-cool cycle most seedlings enjoy. These three products together make a great indoor seed starting set-up.

For a backyard farmer or gardener who needs to start a bunch of seeds at once, this will do the job.

Honest reviews on Hydrofarm CK64050 Germination Station with Heat Mat

This item is essentially a plastic base and clear top (very flimsy) with a heating pad that the base sits on. It's adequate for starting plants from seed, but my main complaint is that for what you get, it's way too expensive. I believe a fair price for this item would be around $20, NOT $40. If you do decide to purchase a germination station like this one, buy the one with the taller top it doesn't take long before the new plants start running into the 2" tall lid.

I bought this kit because of the price was about $40 and there was no shipping charge. Now I am just using the heat mat and tray to coax fig cuttings to root. Late winter I will reinsert the planting cell tray and the clear lid to germinate other small cuttings and garden vegetables. The station and mat are standard size and weight. The mat provides good even heat and seems tough enough to last a long time.

They heat very quickly. The only drawback to these new heaters is they are considerably louder that the heaters they replaced. Fan vibration could be improved.

I purchased this item for myself from a local vendor. I thought it would be great to keep my coffee warm while driving to work during the cold winter mornings. I tested at home by plugging it to my laptop and the mug which was cool to the touch only got as warm as room temp. Next I took it to the family desk top computer and finally to my car. Then just to prove it was useless I filled it with hot water and started the test all over again and it didn't keep the water any warmer than if i had just poured it into a regular travel mug. This product is a total ripoff. I am better off just running hot tap water into the mug to warm it up before pouring in my coffee.

I am so glad I only paid $10 for it.

This product is a great idea, the cup keeps coffee or whatever beverage warm, not hot. I am disappointed that within the second week the plastic cover for the charger broke off (very cheap rubber) and the connection is loose, making it difficult not to get water inside the unit when cleaning. There also seems to be some sort of rust on the inside bottom of the cup that was there from the start. It took three calls to the distributor to finally get someone on the phone and I was told I needed to fax or mail them a receipt in order to get a refund. I would pay more for a higher quality product as this is the perfect cup to keep my coffee warm on the road.

Title says it all. Plugged into my laptop's usb the night it arrived. Kept the test water warm for an hour, figured it was good to go. If it worked ok with the lower power of the usb it should work even better in the car. Wrong, plugged it into the car the next day, nothing. I used a meter to check the wire and plug, had power at the connector that plugs into the mug. Something inside the mug fried I guess. Might as well spend the money on a well insulated thermos instead.

This heater works like a charm! Before starting my review, please take note that it is NOT meant to heat the air in a room and bring up the temperature. This type of heater heats the objects that are within it's distance.

That being said, let's get to the good and the bad. Overall I give this 5 stars. When I first mounted the heater above my workbench too high (10') and could not feel the heat very well. I dropped it down to around 7 feet and that was the ticket!

Works great for a close proximity spot heater. Perfect if hanging out with friends in the garage having a beer and a smoke.

There are two things I did not like about the heater, but they are both fixable and I recommend you do this. First, the little light that is built in is rather annoying. There are three settings you have to choose from. Pull the string once (I) and it turns on the light. Pull it again (II)and the unit turns on one of the two heating elements. Pull the string a third (III) time and both the heating elements turn on.

Oh, and that annoying light stays on the whole time. You cannot have the heater on and the light off. So I pulled the bulb. Simple fix.

Second downfall is the mounting bracket. It is NOT rugged enough to keep the heater solid when using the pre-drilled slot holes that come in the bracket. Simple fix...drill two holes of your own. The farthest left and right sides of the bracket as you can. Also utilize the hole in the center of the bracket for extra support.

The unit can be 'clipped' on to the bracket upside down as well, if you'd rather the pull string/power cord be on the opposite side.

Hope this helps anyone looking to purchase. Just remember it's not meant to heat the air, only the object in front of it.

It is just what we expected. We have it hanging from two chains (one on each side) so that it is lower for our dogs in the garage. Seems to work well. I appreciate the on/off cord. We don't utilize the light, but it does work. I tried to find something like this a couple of years ago and couldn't find one. I'm very happy with this product.

Update: September 26th, 2013 I am ordering my second unit. The first one had a good life and it is still working, however one bulb is out and it isn't worth just buying the bulb. We've continued to be happy with this unit. I would agree with others that this is more a space heater than an overall air heater. We use the chains to extend it down because it wouldn't give the heat we were looking for being mounted to the garage ceiling.

I have been looking high and low for quite some time for exactly this.

A simple plug in ceiling mounted directional heater.

Writing this review while sitting outside under it. I live in Western Washington near Seattle. There are many rainy days, like right now, where I want to sit outside under my covered patio but the low to mid 40 degree weather drives me back inside when my fingers start chilling from the cold and make typing tough. About 4 feet above me this works just fine. However, I can imagine if the temp was 30 something or lower and/or with a decent breeze then the heat would not be enough. Keep in mind this unit plugs into a standard 15 amp outlet so don't expect blazing BTU's.

Install was simple and tomorrow I will install an electrical socket a few feet from it (instead of the extension cable I am now using temporarily).

For the price I have no complaints, however, I would have liked a few things that this does not.

1. An On/off switch for the light. Didn't see one but I could be wrong as I set this up in the dark.

2. More heat. However, I did the math on this real quick. At 1500 watts it is drawing 12.5amps at 120 volts so this is about as much as you can get away with. Some older breakers that can't hold constant 15amp draw (and/or may have a few other things running on the same circuit) will 'trip' open. So, this is about as powerful as it gets on standard home wiring. Can't complain there!

In closing, great little unit, quick install, and after I put an outlet near it, will look like a professional setup. Note: Off set an outlet at least 1 foot away so it is not directly above the unit and make sure to tie the excess cabling off away from the unit as the whole thing does get pretty toasty :).

Honest reviews on Howard Berger Ceiling-Mount Quartz Heater - 5120 BTU, 1500 Watts

I was rather pleased with the quality of this heater considering its low price. It is not industrial grade, but it is not flimsy either.

Under the amp meter, it came it at about 12.5 amps. So its pulling its rating. This uses up all of a residential circuit, or three quarters of a standard shop circuit.

The heat produced is very reasonable. Mounted about 8 feet up, it heats an area about 8ftx8ft.

Remember this is an infrared heater. The air will not warm, the objects it shines on will warm. Similar to sunlight.

I was looking for a heater to attach to my patio wall. It was advertised as a wall or ceiling heater. When I got it, it said it was for a ceiling only. We did install the heater, but you can barely feel any heat. I live in Calif., so I am not overworking the heater. I would not recommend it to anyone.
