I am a recently disabled adult that cannot get enough of a good cup of tea. So seeing this I thought it would make a nice birthday present for me, and make life a little easier around the kitchen. It performs as it says it will.

It looks bulky but is surprisingly lightweight and easy to handle. The whole unit spins on a lazy-susan device making it east to direct the steam vent away from kitchen surfaces.

You will need a water pitcher of some kind to fill this easily. I have a medium sized one sand simply filly the pitcher twice to fill this device once. The handle on top, removable lid, and notched corner makes emptying and cleaning a breeze.

The temperature features are splendid and accurate, there are three:

205 for noodles/ramen etc, herbal infusions, pu-er, Assam and some other black teas..

195 For Darjeeling or delicate blacks like Illam valley are at this temperature as well, let the water sit a few minutes in the brew pot befor adding tea leaves, if you have a very delicate tea.

175 for green or white teas. A few of the more delicate whites fill the tea pot first, then add the leaves. By filling your teapot dry first, this allows the water to lose 5-10F by just warming the pot. Often enough to make a better flavored tea.

On a given day I can go from pu-er tsocha right from boiling, and set the temp to 195. Make a pot of bold assam in the afternoon when at a full boil, then set the temp to 175. Now, after dinner it is set for making jasmine tea for dessert. All with a minimal energy usage and cost.

I have found it a good idea to refill it only 1-2 times then empty the remains, give it a brush inside with a towel, and then let it completely dry. My scale buildup was reduced quite a bit this way.

For a fully able person this unit -isa bit of a luxury. A simple electric teapot with temperature control would do you just fine for a fraction of the initial cost. This will make cost up over time by the thermos nature though, just a fyi.

Have a chain tea drinker in your life though or thoughts for limited commercial use (like a small teahouse), or like tea but have a very full life and time schedule? This would make a great gift for you or even a small splurge to treat yourself.

UPDATE:

Almost two years later and it not only looks fine but functions just as well as the day I got it. I have to descale it about every 9 months or so. Other than that it is pretty maintenance free. Talk about longer term bang for your buck. If you drink tea or would use boiling water on a daily basis, this is a staple for your kitchen.

Some other uses I found. When making soup, rice, thinning a sauce, or deglazing a pan fill your measuring device from the Zojirushi set in slow pour. I now use water from the boiler and the hot water not only speeds up the process, but some flavors are left alone because the room temp water would have cooled the dish and altered the flavors.

I have also found the steel finish wipes very easily. A friend who bought the white version has some staining that stubbornly persists to this day. All in all if you get one you will not be disappointed.

(small edits made above with input from trial and error over the period I've owned this boiler.)

This is my third Zojirushi electric boiler and the best so far! It boils water quickly, dispenses water at a rate that prevents splashing and saves energy by using vacuum insulation. In response to an earlier review, I placed a digital thermometer probe inside a nearly full pot to gauge the accuracy of the unit. The selected temperature of 195 degrees Fahrenheit was measured to be 192 degrees. This difference seems insignificant considering thermometer margin of error. Also, the water temperature does rise above the highest setting of 208 degrees but this is ONLY after boiling. It does return to the selected temperature and maintains at this setting. Lastly, the unit is so well insulated that after choosing the "vacuum insulation" setting which uses no electricity until dispensing water, 195 degree water was still 150 degrees 8 hours later. This is quite an impressive unit.

If you're looking for hot-water on tap for tea, hot cereals, instant soups, ramen, etc this is a very convenient item.

I drink green teas heavily, and bought it based on the strength of reviews and the Zojirushi brand reputation. I was not disappointed.

I fill it up from the tap, move it to the counter and plug it in. It usually boils in around an hour, and then settles back down to the (adjustable) setpoint in another 1.5 ~ 2 hours. Although I haven't taken a thermometer to its output to verify consistency, I've had great results from the teas I use, so the variations can't be too wild.

As is common with Japanese consumer products the controls are well thought out. It has an unlock button to prevent you shooting water onto the floor or something else accidentally, and the double action lever to open the top makes it hard to have your hand in the way & get a steam burn as you open it.

The water level is clearly visible via a clear tube with a patterned background, and the 4L capacity suits my tea usage for somewhere between 4 and 7 days, depending on just how much I happen to feel like having.

I especially recommend it if you're a Macha tea fan, as it makes the process remarkably fast and easy, simply scoop your tea into a bowl, add some water straight from the Zojirushi, whisk and enjoy.

The only design annoyance I've seen is that the power plug relies on magnets to hold itself in the socket. This is itself a good idea, except most of the body is metal. So if you position the dispenser such that you 're trying to plug it up from behind and can't see where the plug should be exactly, the magnet sticks to the body anywhere you put it until you can feel around for the socket. A fairly minor annoyance, but one that could have been fixed by making the body out of plastic further around the plug socket.

Very solid overall product.

Honest reviews on Zojirushi CV-DSC40 VE Hybrid Water Boiler and Warmer, Stainless

This is the first water heater I've bought although my in-laws have one. And it is exactly what one has learned to expect of a made-in-Japan electronic device: it is cute, functional, very easy to use, unobtrusive (except when if finishes boiling water and plays a short Bach minuet which my wife likes), and most importantly: operates exactly how you want it to with no annoyances! (What could be worse than a device that annoys you every time you use it?) Here's a small example of its design perfection: the unlock button keeps it unlocked long enough so that if you pause briefly to look inside your cup you can continue filling without pushing it again. Clearly a masterfully designed water heater. Its one small design flaw (that displays its primary intent for the Japanese market) is that the English text on the buttons extends slightly beyond the circles (whereas I expect the kanji would fit exactly in the circles).

Another issue that I now realize is important is power consumption. It claims to use only 17 watts when maintaining water at 195 deg (with room temp 68 deg). So I don't feel guilty leaving it on all night and can easily get my wife a hot cup of tea when I wake in the morning. I didn't see this power consumption number anywhere before I bought it, although now I would definitely compare power consumption between models before buying one.

I've been using the Zojirushi DSC40 for almost 3 weeks now. The quality and build of this water broiler/warmer is superb. So easy to use and yet very high tech! My wife loves it. My mom now wants one for her place.

The vacuum temperature (no electricity) option works great! It will keep the water termperature at 150 degree for eight hours. If you want it hotter, just press the "REBOIL" button and you will have 212 degree hot water in approximately 7 minutes. Oh and when it does boil water, it's design to emit steam slowly or as less as possible so as to avoid having too much water build up on your cabinet above the unit.

Although the 4 liter capacity is a bit small for our family use, it's really no hassle at all to add more water when it's low. Come to think of it, the 4 liter is perfect because it's not too heavy to move it back and forth from the sink to the outlet when it's full of water.

This unit is definitely worth the high price. You won't regret it.

This fan is exactly as advertised. It is one of the quietest fans I have ever owned. It is perfect for a small area like an office.

It is very effective in moving the air. It is also very reasonably priced. The item was shipped very quickly.

This is a really nice and quiet fan, with 3 speeds, and an oscillation setting. It is great for sitting in a hot office, where you just want to cool yourself, without worrying about cooling the entire room. It works well where you already have air conditioning, but you want to save money on electricity by setting the thermostat a couple of degrees higher than normal.

Best Deals on Seville Classics UltraSlimline EHF10190B 12-Inch Personal Tower Fan

We love the size of this fan and it's portability BUT when it rotates it makes a squeak! We're using it in the bedroom at night so it doesn't make for a good night's sleep. Good price and we like it otherwise.

Honest reviews on Seville Classics UltraSlimline EHF10190B 12-Inch Personal Tower Fan

In a sense, it is louder than I thought "whisper quiet" should be. It's more of a loud whisper. I think what they mean is that the motor is "whisper quiet" so all you hear is the sound of rushing air rather than the buzz of the motor. In that sense, it is a quiet fan.

I'm using it in the bedroom. I placed a folded-up cloth underneath it to reduce any noise from the fan vibrating on the table. The fan is located on the opposite side of the room by the foot of the bed, with the air flow pointed toward the head of the bed. I don't mind the "white noise" of the sound of the rushing air from the far side of the room. Even on low speed, it creates enough air movement that, while it isn't blowing directly on me, I can feel the air moving around.

Unlike a one-star review for this product, mine does not click or make noise when oscillating. That reviewer must have gotten a defective item.

If you need absolute silence to sleep, this fan is not for you. If you don't mind white noise, I say give it a try.

I've had about three of these and they all end up with the same issue. They start out quiet, then slowly over time, get noisier, mainly an irritating rattle the source of which I suspect is the mountings for the cheap vertical plastic vane. This happens whether its oscillating or not although the oscillation mechanism ends up with its own particular noise.

I purchased this item for myself from a local vendor. I thought it would be great to keep my coffee warm while driving to work during the cold winter mornings. I tested at home by plugging it to my laptop and the mug which was cool to the touch only got as warm as room temp. Next I took it to the family desk top computer and finally to my car. Then just to prove it was useless I filled it with hot water and started the test all over again and it didn't keep the water any warmer than if i had just poured it into a regular travel mug. This product is a total ripoff. I am better off just running hot tap water into the mug to warm it up before pouring in my coffee.

I am so glad I only paid $10 for it.

This product is a great idea, the cup keeps coffee or whatever beverage warm, not hot. I am disappointed that within the second week the plastic cover for the charger broke off (very cheap rubber) and the connection is loose, making it difficult not to get water inside the unit when cleaning. There also seems to be some sort of rust on the inside bottom of the cup that was there from the start. It took three calls to the distributor to finally get someone on the phone and I was told I needed to fax or mail them a receipt in order to get a refund. I would pay more for a higher quality product as this is the perfect cup to keep my coffee warm on the road.

I love this.. Seems like this works better plugging in the car than the computer though. But it heats up well when I plugged into my car and stays warm when I plugged this to my computer.

Highly recommended for someone who sits their coffee out long and hates the cold coffee.

Honest reviews on NEW! Auto Heated Travel Coffee Tea Mug Cup Red - 12V & USB

I should have sent this item back. It smelled of a strange chemical that would not go away with washing. The odor was so bad, my wife would not use it--and I don't blame her.

Do NOT buy this product!

Title says it all. Plugged into my laptop's usb the night it arrived. Kept the test water warm for an hour, figured it was good to go. If it worked ok with the lower power of the usb it should work even better in the car. Wrong, plugged it into the car the next day, nothing. I used a meter to check the wire and plug, had power at the connector that plugs into the mug. Something inside the mug fried I guess. Might as well spend the money on a well insulated thermos instead.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is conveniently portable, you can carry it from one room to another, even if you have been using it for sometime. The heat is coming from the bottom and doesn't heats up the handles that are on the top. It uses two 40W E12 lamps that can be replaced from the back.

Pros:

wonderful magical fireplace display. It looks like an authentic fire unless you are very close to it.

no assembly required

Cons:

Not extremely loud but still makes noise even no heater is on.

No authentic fire log crackling noise. Fireplace DVDs give you better experience on audio.

It is blowing air on the bottom but not enough to spread the head across the room

Energy consumption:

I used a Kill-a-Watt to measure how much energy it consumes. This electronic fireplace has three rocker switches. The first one is for light display only. The other two switches is to turn on the heater. There are two rotating knobs. The one on the left is for the light display intensity. The one on the right is a dumb knob for the heater temperature. It is actually just a two step switch. It doesn't adjust gradually. Nothing happens until you turn the knob past halfway before the light on the second heater switch turns on. After passing halfway, the heat will not intensify more even if you turn the knob all the way to the highest setting.

Light only, dimmest setting = 53W

Light only, brightest setting = 78W

Light + 1 heater switch = 731W

Light + 2 heater switches = 1,311W

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I have not had an electric fireplace before. But, I was certainly surprised at the heating uniformity this one produced. I was suspicious that it would heat in one spot, like those small space heaters.

I placed this in the lowest level of my home. I have a Tri-level and the basement level is the coldest. Although it is not too cold yet, this electric Fireplace threw out some instant heat. The heat soon radiated into the room, and it kept the heat in the room uniform.

I liked the look of the flames and the wood, as it is quite realistic. The flames are high, and consistently producing nice images of fire.

My only concern is that the flames are placed in the back, and I would like the flames to billow out of the "logs" also. So, the logs are lit, and the flames are in the back.

The unit, itself, does not get hot, and there is an auto safety feature. You can operate this with or without the heat. PLUS, you can operate one heating element or both for greater warmth.

I placed the Fireplace in the Living Room, and I got a very nice uniform heat. I will, of course, raise the fireplace for more of a level to eye view and enjoyment.

This one is smaller than my other unit Frigidaire CMSF-10310 Cleveland Floor Standing Electric Fireplace Black. It is compact and easy to move. It certainly does not take up much space.

But what I do not know yet is if this uses more electricity than normal. I will test it out, But, in the meanwhile, it is wonderful!! Works great, looks better! Rizzo

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program We are thoroughly enjoying this electric fireplace. First of all, it's an attractive piece and appropriate for our bedroom, den and living area. One of the best things about it is its portability we can move it wherever we wish.

Since we live in the Southwest we've yet to experience any real winter this year so have just used it during the cool mornings of late. We cannot wait for real frosty winter to arrive as we have visions of toasty evenings watching TV.

We're pleased that we don't have to heat the entire villa to make us comfortable in one room. What a boon when the bill comes around!

Think the price for it is quite reasonable and for us a Frigidaire product is a good, dependable one.

Honest reviews on Frigidaire DSF-10302 Dallas Floor Standing Electric Fireplace

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This fireplace is a bit small to do anything with. Since it's a 'fireplace,' you want it out in the open to admire it, but it's too small to act like a fireplace. If you end up putting it close to you to act as a space heater, you lose a lot of the ambiance of the fireplace and starts to look really fake. I do like that it has two heat settings -and can put out a respectable amount of heat for its size -but I think I'd opt for one of the bigger, more expensive ones over this one. It's really too small and 'space heater like' to really appreciate as a fireplace.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Frigidaire DSF-10302 Dallas Floor Standing Electric Fireplace

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This floorstanding fireplace is easily moved from location to location. It gives off a pleasant orange glow in addition to the heat coming from the bottom of the unit. The control that operates the fire appearance is a rheostat on the back panel the visual effects cannot be turned off if the unit is turned on. That is, you can't have just the heat without any visual effects; even at the dimmest setting, the effects may be too bright in an otherwise dark room. The heater control can be run at half power as there are two heater switches. Leave one off and you get half the heat at half the power. I found that to be sufficient in most cases.

The only downside of the unit is the noise. The white noise from the fan is considerable in a quiet room. It isn't grating in any way but would require that you turn up your music or watch TV at a higher volume than you might otherwise in the same space. I'd prefer a quieter fan.

In comparing this with other portable heaters that I have, this unit produces the same amount of heat but costs considerably more. You're paying here for the fireplace appearance. If that's what you are looking for, there's no question that visually this product is far more appealing than your run of the mill beige colored heat generating boxes. But if the heat is what you're looking for, and visual effects are secondary, look elsewhere.

One final point of concern is the warning in the product brochure: "This fireplace is intended for supplemental heat and/or decorative purposes. Continuous use for several hours can impact the performance and life of the fireplace." This may be of concern for those who might think to use the product, say, in their home office for 7-8 hours a day during the winter or who put it in their bedroom to keep the room warm at night after they turn down the house thermostat.

i use this at work for myself and a few friends. We make two pots a day and the coffee maker has worked perfectly for a few months now. Its pretty quiet, but the coffee tends to be very hot! the longer it sits in the coffee maker the hotter it gets. Overall, i'm very happy with it.

I've had this coffee maker for almost a year now and I have no problems with it. I have the black one (white and silver are available) and the plastic water indicator does get stained by the coffee but cleans off easily. The inside metal plate should also be kept clean daily, simple wipe down helps both metal warming features stay clean. There is one important item to mention during cleaning, to avoid drips you should open the trigger & let warm water run through it, where the coffee drips or you will end up with leaks when the cup is pulled away because the trigger will stick (from old coffee). Finally, I use the programming feature dailyand I find it is easy to program in different times (if needed) and it has a good indicator letting you know it is already set. It's not meant to be a professional coffee maker as far as flavor, so if you know you will get good average coffee and if that fits your needs, you should also be satisfied with this maker.

Best Deals on Hamilton Beach 12-Cup BrewStation

We received the Hamilton Beach BrewStation 12 Cup Coffeemaker as a gift from my sister-in-law. She loved hers and had used it for a few months so she bought one for us. Shortly after buying this for us, her coffeemaker started leaking. She thought it was just worn out from the six months of use and purchased a different type to replace hers.

We used our BrewStation for the first time yesterday. The night before, I set it up and programmed it to make coffee at 5:00 AM perfect, we could get up and have coffee already made. It worked great. A minor problem is that I enjoy coffee throughout the morning and the coffeemaker shut off after two hours. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, I just turned it back on and life was good.

Now before I go on with my story, I need to explain how this coffeemaker works. You pour the water into the first reservoir (for water only) using the coffee tank to measure the amount of water. The coffee tank is placed back on the coffeemaker and the coffee filter and coffee is placed in a basket that fits on top of the coffee tank. The coffee is made and held in the coffee tank. To dispense the coffee, you place your cup below the tank and push on the dispenser button with your cup. Coffee pours right into the cup. Great idea, too bad it doesn't work as well as the concept!

Today coffee was brewed at 5:00 AM again. That's the only thing that worked well. When my husband tried to get a cup of coffee it poured out and would not stop. The cup overflowed, the coffee ran all over the counter and continued to flow until he unplugged it and put the entire coffeemaker in the sink. It finally stopped pouring out when it ran out of coffee. I've cleaned the coffee tank and it continues to pour no matter what I do. Since this coffeemaker runs just under $ 50, the twelve cups of coffee we've made with it very expensive!

I've emailed Hamilton Beach and am awaiting an answer to this dilemma. I need to purchase another coffeemaker today and it definitely won't be a Hamilton Beach brand. I can't afford to purchase a new coffeemaker every other day!

My advice is to purchase a different brand and stay away from this one. Unless you don't have cups and want to slurp your coffee off of the counter!

Honest reviews on Hamilton Beach 12-Cup BrewStation

I didn't look for a coffee pot without a carafe, but when I saw it, I decided to give it a try. What I found, I like.

This coffee pot lets you dispense coffee one cup at a time. You still brew it a pot at a time, however, it dispenses the coffee one cup at a time as you need it. Just press your coffee cup against the silver button (kind of like a soda machine at a restaurant). The coffee stays inside of a removable bucket and is kept comfortably warm.

I haven't had a single drip from this unit that wasn't as desired right into my cup!

One advantage that was unexpected was that this unit is kid-friendly. We never considered asking our 8 year old son to get us a cup of coffee because the weight of a full pot of steaming hot coffee would be too dangerous. However, without a carafe, this isn't an issue. Our son is perfectly comfortable with pushing a single cup against the silver button to dispense one cup at a time. Ahhhh!

Finally convenience. This machine couldn't be much easier to use. There is a large plastic bucket with a handle that sits inside the unit. Just pull up the handle and fill it with water and dump the water into the unit. Then, put the bucket back in. Add a filter and push the "On" button. There ya go. To clean it, just remove the bucket. In the days of latte and frapuccino, there's something refreshing about drinking out of a bucket!

I recieved one of the defective ones. It frist started with no current to the coffee maker .By unplugging and plugging back in several times ,I would finally get the clock blinking again .Then its other symptoms of the faulty electrical supply ,it would stop making coffee when only a 1/3 of the pot was brewed ? I would have to restart the brewing process at least 3 times B/4 a fulll pot was brewed ! Hamilton Beach seems to think everyone has a back up coffee maker laying around .They tell you to cut off the cord and send it to them and if you are lucky you may have a new one in 3-4 weeks. In my case I would have to go out and buy a second pot ,while waiting for my replacement ! Thanks to customer service from amazon.com ,they have come up with a differant way to make this customer happy. If I had it to do all over again ,even though I like the potless design of the Brew Station ,I would wait till someone else made a more reliable and better quality built machine ! When they sent me the instructions to cut the cord and mail it to them along with shipping charges for the new maker, I was left speechless and now to find out this is a factory defect ,on what appears to be on a significant amount of these coffee makers ,I believe they have alot of gall making the comsumer pay anything ,for replacement. Has Hamilton Beach ever heard of the two words "class action" ! I will never buy another Hamilton Beach product again. I thank amazon.com for great customer service !

I have two kerosene heaters, a Robeson (K-Mart) which is 25+ years old, and a Kerosun which is about 10 years old. Both work perfectly, year after year, with minimal starting and no operating odor, even with old kerosene. (I do add kerosene treatment which seems to stabilize the kerosene and claims to reduce the odor.) However, the Robeson does not have a cartridge tank, and I got tired of lugging it outside to refill. The Kerosun spoiled me.

The CT-1100 arrived promptly, and seems to be intermediate in quality between the Robeson and Kerosun. As expected it was smelly for the first few hours, but no significant smoke starting or stopping. After doing a dry wick burn, there is still a slight but annoying odor when operating. If I did not have the other two, I would probably consider it normal. After setting the wick, I regularly get 18+ hour burn times, which compares with the Kerosun which has the same size tank. I plan to work with it for the rest of the season, and if the odor continues, will replace the wick when warmer weather arrives. It definitely seems flimsier than those in the other two heaters.

So far no real problems with good heat output and much greater convenience and safety. It compares well with the Kerosun in design, though the sheet metal is clearly of a lighter but completely acceptable gauge.

bought two of these heaters both are the same one branded mega heat and

the other heat mate, both work as they should except the both give off

odor while burning, i have two other convection style heaters that have

no smell while running, but these two radiant models do give off odor.

i have dry burned the wick, unit has been adjusted just as manual says

red from top to bottom with blue flame on top , but smell is still there.

any ideas to get rid of smell would be welcome, get about 11 to 12 hours

burn time from full tank, if i could get rid of odor the would be great

buy, stick with convection type kerosene heaters they seem to burn cleaner.

add on one year later, i changed the wick that came with heater to better

quality wick from miles stair wick shop , odor is no longer a problem i

was told cheap wicks are thinner and allow smell, better wicks are thicker and fill channel tighter so no smell comes through, with this new

wick heater works perfectly with no odor, check out miles stair wick shop

This KeroHeat Ct-1100 Must be seasoned before normal use (all kerosene heaters do). Like a cast iron pan if you skip this it will smell and smoke. . I did what the site said, and I have been quite pleased with my results. What you do is, start with a quarter tank of Kerosene, burn the heater on high for about a half hour, until the top plate is red hot. Back to low for a hour. Finally back to high for a hour and let run out of fuel. I use CLEAR kerosene and the deodorant additive as well. Don't get too fixed on a certain sent, this unit is too efficiant and you will not have the sent filling the air in your home. I also recommend the KeroHeat HMN-110 radiant and KeroHeat CV-2230 convection. **Dont forget to run the Humidifire in your home**

I've had the Kero-Heat for over 1 1/2 years and used both clear and red-dyed kerosene as a fuel source. Due to the rising cost of both, the red-dyed version clearly is the most economical but has a tendency to leave a residue in the wick and will reduce its lifespan.

However, this in infinitely preferable to an attempt by me to use a quartz tubed heater as an alternative heat source. When I received my electric bill and saw that it tripled ($70 to $230), I unplugged it immediately.

The bottom line is that you must use wicks that have a high cotton content (i.e., England) and not the OEM ones that come from Asia that look virtually identical. I tried both and the English ones not only burn better without an odor but are significantly hotter as well.

I also used a catalytic disk above the burner to further reduce any odor.

Both are available through Miles Stair's Wick Shop online.
