I have owned this portable machine for 18 Mo and I purchased it to clean my car carpet. It works great and provides heated water to clean car carpets like new. I got a puppy recently and of course we are house breaking him but it was impossible to keep up after him if we let him anywhere in the house outside his crate. That was until I remembered my portable Bissell. I also have the big green Bissell but it was a pain to drag out every time the puppy urinated but the little green heated machine is outstanding. It deep cleans the carpet instead of just pushing it deeper and leaving odor like trying to clean up with rags and hot water. The real advantage was when the puppy had diarrhea which is impossible to pick up and clean out without a carpet cleaner. This things pulls all of the mess and stain out and with a little disinfectant added to the solution the spot turns out virtually dry and odor free which is critical because once the dog marks a spot the instant he smells the old residual odor that becomes the bathroom location. If you have a pet (puppy or incontinent older dog) and you are an ultra clean neat-freak you will want this portable machine?

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The BISSELL LITTLE GREEN SPOT CLEANER is a handy little carpet stain cleaner that's good to keep around for cleaning small accidents around the house. However, if you have pets or small kids, where accidents on the carpet are prone to happen frequently, I would suggest getting Bissell Spotbot Pet Handsfree Spot and Stain Cleaner with Deep Reach Technology, 33N8A. Although that unit costs about $30.00 more than the BISSELL LITTLE GREEN, it has two choices of either using a hands-free set-it-and-go scrubber or using the hose and manually cleaning out stains from the carpet (i.e. in hard to reach areas like stairs or in a corner or on furniture). The Bissell "Spotbot" is much easier to use because you simply have to place the unit on top of the stain and press a button and leave it alone. It does all the work for you. Whereas the BISSELL LITTLE GREEN only has the hose nozzle and two brush attachments, a large one for deep cleaning and a smaller one for all the rest, and you have to manually use the hose, spray the stain with the nozzle, and clean the mess up. There's no other option.

Also with the BISSELL LITTLE GREEN there's some assembly required, which is just to attach the hose holder and it's very simple to set up -requiring only a Phillips head screwdriver. The unit also comes with a small bottle of cleaning solution. You mix a little of the solution with lots of water in the cleaning tank chamber, which has clearly marked water and solution lines; the other chamber is for the collection of the dirty water that you rinse out after use. It's pretty much foolproof. Both the left and right chambers come on and off easily, too, and latch securely.

Although the LITTLE GREEN boasts that it continually heats up the water, I still think the "Spotbot" is the better deal.

I had to cleanup a mess of wet dog food on the carpet, after my Shiba Inu decided to push her dinner plate off of the bed and onto the floor, and though the LITTLE GREEN did a good job, I still like the "hands free" convenience of the "Spotbot." And comparing both units side by side, the "Green" is only slightly smaller than the "Spotbot."

Of course, either unit is better than scrubbing the carpet with your hands and a brush but if you're trying to decide between the two, and you have pets and/or small kids, go with the "Spotbot."

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program When the Bissell Little Green PROheat Deep Reach Spot Cleaner arrived at my home it had it's work cut out for it. My stairs were the number one priority and depending on the results I had hoped to use it in my car and RV.

Preparing it for use was easy and I was cleaning my stairs within 15 minutes of unboxing it. I had vacuumed the stairs earlier and that is recommended. Now it did take a little more effort than a full size machine, but try lugging a full size machine up the stairs! I have a total of 14 stairs, with a small landing in the middle and it took about 45 minutes for me to finish, but once dried (overnight) and vacuumed again the carpet looked better than it did when we bought our home several years ago. Next I headed out to the RV thankfully it was parked in our driveway and close to an outlet. This was going to be a huge test on just how heavy duty this cleaner could be, it's a 20+ year old RV that I have no idea when the carpets were thoroughly cleaned last. Luckily the carpeted areas aren't too big and I was able to finish in under an hour. I could have been faster, but I had to empty and refill the water many more times than I did with the stairs. The dirt coming out of the carpet was horrible and I kept going over areas until it started to run clear. In the end it didn't look brand new, but a definite improvement. I also noticed that the drying time was less than the stairs, possibly because the padding was thinner?

Since the stairs and the RV, I have done the carpets in my car and a small closet in the house. Both cleaned up well and using the Little Green was much easier than trying to use a full size machine. If you are looking for a small area or spot cleaner I have no problem recommending it. The only complaint I have is that the Bissell branded cleaning solutions are rather expensive and I would like to find a reasonable alternative or see the price lowered.

Honest reviews on BISSELL Little Green PROheat Deep Reach Spot Cleaner, Bright White

This cleaner does the job fairly well of getting spots out.

Pros:

Injects the cleaning mix into carpet very well

Keeps cleaning solution warm while using I always start with warm water from the faucet, so I can't comment on how long it would take to warm up cold water

Solid build quality, I'm not afraid at all of this breaking

Con:

The suction through the vacuum isn't very powerful, it takes a pretty good amount of time to thoroughly dry the spot you just cleaned. I would say if you don't want the area to be sopping wet after cleaning, it takes about 10 minutes to do an area of about 1 square foot.

Overall: I'm pretty happy with this, and after using it, would get it again for what I bought it for. Quick tip, you only need about half as much solution as the instructions say for most stains.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a great and very handy item. The built in hot water heater boosts the water temperature so you can use the heat to remove stains much better. You can leave the cleaner in the tank ready to use so you can "pounce" on stains immediately as the machine heats up as soon as it is plugged in. We have 2 dogs, 3 cats and 2 young children, so this device gets used often and never disappoints! In addition to doing a great job the Little Green Proheat takes up very little room.

I had a great floor fan with remote for several years and was very happy with it, but, alas, it died. I purchased this Dyson, because I have been pleased with their vacuum cleaners. And it is a technological marvel.

However, there are a few things perspective buyers should know: it is called an "Air Multiplier" not a "Fan" per se. The difference is there are no blades to move the air. Dyson says this "eliminates the "choppiness" from fan blades". The best way to describe the difference in air movement is with a regular fan you feel the air being "fanned" upon you, with the Dyson Air Multiplier you feel the air just blowing on you. Imagine the difference between someone "fanning" you with a leafy palm branch vs. just blowing air on you). I have come to realize that I prefer the "choppiness" of fan blades because the more the air is agitated

as it is augmented, the more your skin feels the air currents and the better for the evaporation of sweat and the disipation of heat. But that's just my opinion on the best cooling air movements. It is quieter at lower speeds, but noisy (like a jet engine whine) at top speeds. The remote is very small and has only three buttons, one for on/off; one for variable fan speeds (just up or down, no pre-set low, med, high); and one to oscillate. (My old fan's remote was larger and included a temperature gauge to tell you the room's temperature and it also had a light for night use). But the worst design flaw in this product is that the remote's receiving sensor is in the base of the unit(right down on the floor). So, because I have a rather high bed, I have to sit up in bed and aim the remote down towards the floof to adjust the speed or turn the unit on of off, etc. That really seems to me to be a glaring design flaw in a fan that costs over $350 dollars.

BOTTOM LINE: It's not a FAN, it's an "Air Multiplier", that blows on you instead of fanning you. I would

recommend waiting until they improve the design of the remote control.

I couldn't decide between the Dyson Pedestal fan and the Tower Fan, so I went ahead and bought both to compare. Yes we kept both as well.

The Tower fan is great for the Living Room or family room for it stays more compact (slim and low profile) and spreads the air less concentrated on one area.(high and low)There is no adjustments that can be made on this fan, meaning no tilting or bringing the unit up and down. What you see it what you get.

The Pedestal fan is great for our bedroom; we have a really high bed. At the highest point of the pedestal fan it's even to where we lay. Since the Fan is more like a standard oscillating fan, the air is more concentrated to one area, so at night we through it on medium to low and let it keep us cool at night. The pedestal fan can be adjusted to the height by simply pushing it down or pulling up on the actually circle part of the fan. (The frame tube extends or compresses very handy and fast to do) Also this fan has a tilt. (The circle head part can be aimed where you want it) This fan is a little bulkier needs more room then the tower fan. (Due to the adjustments and the diameter or the circle part when oscillating)

On both models the High setting does a lot of air, at a louder noise. We joke about it and say the jet is taking off, for the fan does lean back a little when we turn the knob up. Set up of both fans is quick and very easy

The remotes are very handy and awesome. To store the remote it's a magnet in the fan and in the remote, so just lay the remote on the fan and it sticks

Overall Great Fans, if you can get over the Price of a $450 fan, you will be happy with it. They do have a 2 year warranty with Dyson, so that is nice. Our fans always break after 1 summer; these fans have been going strong for 1 year now, still no problems.

Both fans have the same amount of air coming through them on high settings, so there no difference in power between the two models.

Despite the ridiculous price, any serious fan-atic will appreciate this insanely simple device. The breeze is adjustable, the white noise is perfect for sleeping, and it just feels cool to own one. In pictures it looks like a bulky, heavy piece of equipment, but it's actually more plastic than metal, making it very lightweight (a plus from a mobility standpoint, a questionable minus from a structural standpoint). But I am pleased with everything about it. It it were 200 bucks I'd have one in every room.

Honest reviews on Dyson AM03 Pedestal Fan, Silver

The Dyson AM03 is a beautifully designed, yet poorly engineered product. One would think for $450 retail (and even for $299 on sale), that the fan would have outstanding engineering. The designers did their job, the engineers failed to consider at least one important factor in inventing a portable fan. Fans need not only cool, but should not raise the ambient noise level in a room so high that persons must raise their voices to be heard over the fan. On high the fan sounds like a jet liner taking off.

I love the look of the fan, and I would not trade my Dyson Vacuum cleaner for any other brand. But, unlike my vacuum cleaner which is designed to suck in a good way; the AM03 does so in a bad way.

The Amazon experience and the folks Buy Happier could not be any better. I am completely pleased with the buying experience. The product, however, fails to measure up.

I bought this fan on a bit of a whim. I live in San Francisco so it never gets incredibly hot but a fan is a welcome addition when we do have warmer days. So far this fan has performed better than I expected. The fan is definitely expensive but is easy to see where your money went. The unboxing reminded me of buying a Mac computer. It was elegantly packaged, concise and easy to understand. Putting the unit together took less than 5 minutes and has great fit and finish (like you would expect from a $300 fan).

It has a nice industrial feel with the plastic and aluminum housing. The weight is light enough to be portable but also sturdy enough to hold the fan in place on max speed. The fan has many speed settings and can be set easily by the remote or the actual base. As far as noise on normal settings its relatively quiet, but if you do turn it all the way up the swoosh of the air is audible. To give you an idea if I turn the fan to max and stand about 10-12 feet away it generates around 8-9db of white noise (my flat with windows open is at 51db and the fan at full was 59).

So one question might be can you tell a difference with this choppy air claim, and to be honest I really can't. It may feel a bit softer but that could be placebo. It will generate a good amount of air though.

The fan itself is easy to adjust, less obtrusive than a traditional fan and unless you step in front of the air flow path you wouldn't even know its on. I personally like the fact that when in operation only a circle around the power button faintly glows blue.

If you like minimalist, don't want your view blocked, or enjoy "mac" style engineering this probably is a safe bet for you.

Just as an FYI the power cord termination has a fuse built in so it might be wise to get a spare or at least be aware of it if your fan stops working.

Really beautiful high quality dark cherry (and heavy) furniture which enhances the room even when not turned on. The flames are surprisingly much more realistic than I expected but the glowing coals in front appear to lack depth and consequently realism. Heater works well to add secondary heat to a medium sized room but fan can be a bit noisy.

The remote control is very small and works only when it wants to.

Assembly took an hour or so. Assembly Instructions understandable (and also available on line). Ships in two boxes; one for the mantel (this is the part that must be assembled) and one for the electric flame/heater box.

This identical piece is also know as Pleasant Hearth Macomb Electric Fireplace depending on the vendor (ie BJs).

This heater is replacing a 20 year old model. Everything is exactly the same right down to the model number. Great heater for the bathroom.

Went to a lot of work installing heater just to turn around and rip it out. Heater is very noisy. I phoned company and explained situation. They stated "they never advertised unit as being quiet" So much for that.

Best Deals on Broan Model 178 Wall Heater, 1000/2000 Watt 240 VAC, White Painted

The unit arrived with a damaged electrical connection to the heating element. Northside Service Co. promptly sent a replacement element which was great. After a few months of use the white metal grill (looks like baked enamel or equivalent) started cracking and flaking off at the point where the most heat comes out. I emailed Northside about this and they kindly made it clear that they warranted the product for only 60 days that I needed to talk to Broan 1-800-637-1453. Broan (Trish) said that the sellers uphold the warrantee and not Broan. They added that Northside were not authorized sellers, and that as they serviced it previously they had taken on the responsibility of servicing the warrantee, and that I should go back to them. Fortunately before I needed to take this further Broan said they would go ahead and send me a replacement grill, but they would do this only the one time.

As the unit does a great job of quickly heating the two rooms that make up our main bathroom and shower I highly recommend it. I think Broan has been around long to know how to formulate and apply an appropriate paint finish and that there is going to be odd bad unit or bad batch. So I would buy it again.

To comply with local electrical codes (long story), I had to install one of these units in each BR. I probably should have spent more money to get a low decibel model. Yes, it has a thermostat, but when that triggers the heater to come on, it is noisy since there is no speed setting. It's on or it's off!! Oh well, you get what you pay for, eh?

I have been using the Chef's Choice 677 Cordless Electric 1-3/4-Quart Teakettle for 4 years. Worked like a charm but had to replace it when it won't start anymore and has rusted so much from years of use.

The Chef's Choice 681 was a great choice for an upgrade. I have been using it for a week and a half and it works great. Heats water in just two minutes! The design is simply beautiful. It is slightly smaller than the older one I have by just 0.5 liters. I like that this kettle lights up when it's on. The blue light is highly visible unlike the Chef's Choice 677 Cordless Electric 1-3/4-Quart Teakettle where you barely notice the light. Because of the blue light, I haven't burned myself by accidentally touching the kettle. The sound of boiling water isn't as loud as the old one I have too.

It has no plastic interiors, all stainless steel coated. It does have a slight industrial smell inside, out from the box. The interior must be rinsed well before using.

The body of this kettle is prone to fingerprints easily. Easy cleaning with microfiber sponge or towel does the job.

This kettle is also lighter than the former one I had. I used this several times a day and it's wonderful! Great for the price compared to other more expensive electric kettles sold at Amazon.

I'm very pleased with this recent replacement kettle.

For decades (both in the UK and USA) I have always had a plastic kettle, as I don't especially like the look of stainless steel appliances. I was never bothered by taste or other effects from using a plastic kettle until my last one started to malfunction. More specifically it would overheat/not shut off and when this happened there was an extreme taste of plastic in the water, which really made me think about leaching from plastic, so I decided to switch to a stainless kettle and I am glad I did.

It's much harder to find nice electric kettles these days than it used to be. Most of the new ones are complete junk OR extremely expensive gadgets with unnecessary features.

This kettle is solidly made, straighforward and nicely designed. It's not too heavy when full and pours nicely; it's not terribly loud when it boils like many kettles are; the lid has a nice smooth opening mechanism; it's quick; the on/off switch is easy to use and had a nice indicator light. The only feature that could be better is the level indicator it's hard to see and I don't think mine works, so I just judge volume by looking inside.

It does require a thorough cleaning before use to get rid of any lingering manufacturing residues. I scrubbed the interior with a paste of baking soda and water, rinsed it out then boiled a pot of white vinegar. After that I boiled (and discarded) about 5 or 6 kettlesfull of water before using and there is no taste or odor in the pot.

I only gave it 4 stars because the volume indicator could be better and the steel surface does show some smudge marks, but otherwise I think it's a good choice. I did not buy mine through Amazon because I was able to get it cheaper elsewhere with a coupon.

I research a long time and finally decided on this kettle. I'm very pleased with my choice. I love the look and find it easy to handle. Also, the top stays open when filling. It heats quickly and the bright blue light showing when heating keeps my attention. We use it at least twice a day and sometimes more. I've had it a month or so and no problems so far.

Honest reviews on Chef'sChoice M681 International Cordless Electric Kettle

This kettle seemed ideal for three months until it started leaking. At first I thought it had just been overfilled, but that isn't the case. Even if it's only half full it leaks. Throwing it out and going to find something that won't leak. Otherwise, I really liked this kettle.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Chef'sChoice M681 International Cordless Electric Kettle

After reading reviews of electric kettles, I nearly gave up on getting one, because all of them have a raft of negative reviews, even when lots of people like them. But this one has been great! I've used it for about three weeks. Works well, heats really fast. Lid opens easily and fully, so it's easy to fill. Spout makes pouring easy. I deliberately chose one that didn't make any alarm noise when water boiled, and I'm so glad I made that choice. I listen for the sound of water boiling, or kettle clicking off, or I watch for the blue light to go out. I plan to buy a second one for another location.

I LOVE this little heater. I live in St. Pete Florida and needed a space heater for the unseasonably cold weather that we had here. I live in a 650 sq. foot, poorly insulated, garage apartment, and this heater really saved the day when it was in the 20's and 30's outside. We ran only this heater and not our central heater, as the latter costs a fortune and does very little in the way of actual heating. The space heater was used mostly in one large room that comprises about 40% of our apartment, and also in the bedroom which is about 25%. In the bedroom with the door closed this sucker kept it quite warm, even on low (and the bedroom is like 15x13 feet). Granted it takes an hour or so to heat the whole room, but it worked great (so great that we had to shut it off in the middle of the night because we were sweating under our heavy comforter). In the large room, the heater did an admirable job and kept it bearable throughout the cold spell (and that large room has so many drafts it's like all of professional sports combined). Now, with the weather more temperate (40's and 50's) this little heater heats whatever room I'm in without a problem.

I love the high and low settings and the fact that the high setting draws only 1200W (as opposed to 1500W for most space heaters). The unit is quite small and no part of it is too hot to touch at any time. It is a breeze to move from room to room. This heater would be a good choice for anyone with children or pets, as it has a knockover shut-off. It is very quiet (though not silent as some have said). In a room with any ambient noise, you're not likely to hear the heater. In a quiet bedroom it sounds like (surprise) a small fan. There are some days when it sounds a little bit rough on startup, but this noise goes away within a minute or so.

My unit has held up great (I've had it for a few months now and ran it 24 hrs a day for weeks), but I am very careful not to knock it or use it in a humid area (like a bathroom). I could see this heater breaking if it is knocked over or hit against something while moving it between rooms. Also, I take care to hold the heater with one hand whenever I turn the on/off knob with the other hand, because the knob takes a good bit of torque to rotate. If I were to turn the knob without holding the heater I would be twisting the whole heater on its base which could potentially damage the oscillation feature. With proper care this heater seems like it will fare well.

For me, this heater was a great buy. It was relatively inexpensive, it is small and easy to store, and it puts out an admirable amount of heat for its size. I wouldn't rely on it to bring a large room up to a short sleeve and shorts temperature in the dead of winter, but it will definitely take the edge off the cold. In a closed room this heater will bring the temperature up nicely.

Amazon, as always, was a pleasure to deal with. Oddly, the manufacturer's packaging looked like it had been opened and re-taped, but the interior packaging appeared factory fresh. I guess it could have been opened and re-sealed, or the Sunpentown factory just tapes up their boxes sloppily. Either way, the heater is great, and I am quite pleased.

A little smaller than I had anticipated, this little heater does a nice job. I bought it for a basement tool room we have, which stays very cold in the winter. Turn this baby on and in ten minutes it's comfy in there. The amount of heat emanating from its small front doesn't seem like it will heat a room well, but it does. It's very quiet, you can't tell when it's on, whether it's set on oscillating or not. It oscillates about 90 degrees.

Having small children in the house, I like how you can touch it anywhere during its operation and not get burned. The automatic shut-off feature is also a good thing. There are two settings, low and high (600/1200 watts), and both seem to do the job well.

Best Deals on Sunpentown SH-1507 Mini Tower Heater

The heater worked well warmed up a 12 X 12 bedroom with a vaulted ceiling in a very short period of time. Good value ran quietly. Would recommend to anyone.

Honest reviews on Sunpentown SH-1507 Mini Tower Heater

After I read all positive and negative reviews, I decided to buy this product because as noted in many 5 star reviews, it could provide enough heat for a room. Well, the unit is functioning but its heating capacity is very poor. As long as you are within 1 meter diameter from the unit, you can feel the heat. Otherwise, it is a waste. I don't understand how people say it can provide enough heat for a 12X12 bedroom even with a vaulted ceiling! Are you kidding me?

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Sunpentown SH-1507 Mini Tower Heater

There is contradictory information regarding the temperature control on this heater. I want to confirm that the unit does NOT have any built-in control for temperature. I verified this with the manufacturer. It generates heat as long as it's on setting "1" (600 watts) or "2" (1200 watts). I like the unit, it's pretty, it's quiet, and it heats my 14x14 home office so well (even at the lowest setting) that I unfortunately have to return it because I simply do not want to keep turning it on and off. Like another reviewer said, I wish they included a thermostat: that would be a winner.

This works so much better than the brush model. For those of us who have the long skinny filter the curves downward, this slips in there and the lint stays on the brush. The other model with the long, cone shaped wiry brush just makes a mess and doesn't bring all the lint out with it.

So glad to be ableto clean my steam radiators! Sturdy and bendy :) the micro fiber is good quality. Just wish it came off to wash

First, it was too fat to fit into my dryer vent so i could not use it there. However, it was very good for cleaning tops of ceiling fan blades, as it is bendable, so I will use it for that. Unfortunately, the microfiber does not remove from the handle so I guess it will have to be hand washed. Would much prefer something that could be machine washed.

This vent brush didn't work very well. Whatever lint it pulled out of the vent was almost impossible to remove from the brush. Too much trouble I returned it.

There is no easier, more hassle-free way to start a charcoal fire than by using one of these. As long as you have access to an electric outlet somewhere in the vicinity of your grill, you'd be foolish to use any other method.

You place the heating element on the grate, with the plastic handle resting on the barbecue's edge. Cover the element with your briquettes, plug it in, wait 12 minutes, and then remove it. By that time, any charcoals that were in contact with the red-hot element will have started. Mound up the coals, wait a few more minutes, and you're good to go. No smelly, dangerous lighter fluids, no chimneys, no newspapers. What could be more simple?

The electric cord is quite short, so if your outlet isn't close by you'll have to use an extension cord. Just make sure it is a heavy duty one like the kind used for power tools.

It's quite durable if used correctly. I bought the one I have now 6 or 7 years ago and I use it at least 30 or so times a year. The heating element is beginning to crack now, so it will fail soon, but 200+ uses for this inexpensive item is pretty respectable, I think.

I can't understand why everyone doesn't use one of these. If you like to barbecue in your backyard or on your patio or deck, this is indispensable equipment.

This starter is wonderful. But don't get lazy and leave it under the charcoal, like I did. You need to remove it after the fire starts. The plastic near the cord melts and the thing is ruined. I am ordering another one because I find I don't want to start charcoal without one.

I have a Big Green Egg. And these are recommended to start the charcoal in them.

It does the job, flat out. I have only had it a few weeks, but it does indeed start the charcoal.

Quickly too! About 5-10 mins get the coals read hot!

I gave it 5 stars because this thing does exactly what it's supposed to do, start coal.

Now, for my commentary.

This thing makes me NERVOUS AS HELL.

I have kids, and they are goofy. This is basically every toaster/counter-top oven heating element in the world, with a plastic handle. Haha

So when you take this thing out of the coals, it is this red hot heating element. Where do you put it? It has to cool off for a few mins. On the table? Patio? Where out of the way, that someone isnt going to touch it?

I am not knocking the product, it is what it is, but think about this stuff before you buy it. I wouldnt want to see someone get hurt from this thing.

Honest reviews on Char-Broil SureFire Electric Charcoal Starter

this is the best charcoal starter we have ever used. the last one purchased is still working but is over ten years old and is used regularly every summer. I just purchased a new one as a back-up, but may not need it for a long time. Very reliable and very easy and safe to use.

In my area this is alot of wind(since i live close to the windy city chi) so everytime i get some kind of fire going the charcoal wont light. I tried the charcoal chimney and paid 15 bucks for it and it did nothing for me. So after trying for 2 hours to light using that dumb chimney I borrowed one of these wands from my mother and in 5 minutes the charcoal started smoking. This the best starter for a barbeque hands down.

I use this heater to heat my workshop. My work shop is a 20x26 space. I insulated the ceiling and made sure to weather seal all the doors. I use a 170k BTU heater kero heater to bring the shop up to temp and then let this guy take over to keep it warm. No smell fumes and it fuel efficient. I run it off 30 lb tanks and so far I have over 30 hours on one take. I run it mostly on the low setting. Its easy to setup and use.

Since we don't usually need a full pot of coffee except on weekends -I typically just grab a Starbucks "Via" instant coffee on the way to work in the morning (a pretty remarkable innovation, by the way) -I was attracted to the hot water dispenser on this coffee maker. I like it particularly because of its 58-ounce capacity -meaning that you don't have to keep refilling it if you're just using it once each morning to fill a car mug. My wife prefers tea to coffee, and she loves being able to get a cup of really hot water whenever she likes. (We fill it with spring water, and the results are superb.) I haven't had any problem with the "add water" light, as another reviewer apparently did. I was concerned about squandering energy by keeping a reservoir of water constantly hot, but it doesn't. It keeps only about 13 ounces of water at serving temperature; the rest of the reservoir is unheated. It doesn't take all that much energy to keep 13 ounces of water hot. And if you know you won't be wanting hot water for a while, you can just turn it off with the on/off button. I had expected it to heat water instantly through some kind of coil system -much like an under-sink unit does -but not so. As a result, if the unit hasn't been on, there's about a 3-minute wait for the water to reach the right temperature. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I wish the hot water dispenser were programmable in the way the coffee maker is, but it isn't. You have to start it manually. (No you can't use an outlet timer because the unit has an electronic on/off switch.) I also wish the hot water dispenser had a temperature adjustment (the coffee maker does); the water it dispenses is so hot that I have to wait for several minutes before I can drink any beverage I make with it. Finally, some Cuisinart coffee makers have a strength adjustment but this doesn't. But these are minor quibbles; it's still a great appliance. The coffee maker itself works as well as an automatic drip coffee maker can -always a function of trial-and-error at the beginning (what kind and how much coffee you use). It uses a cone filter (#4) -which in my humble opinion always delivers better coffee than the flat filters used in so many other coffee makers -including a lot of Cuisinart models -and the water is sprayed onto the coffee by a showerhead array in the reservoir lid. (Tip for review "Me2": Pour water into the coffee maker by putting the lip of the carafe on the rear LEFT corner and pour it in that way. It's a lot easier and you won't spill any.)

I looked at a LOT of different coffee makers before deciding on this model. Buying a coffee maker has to be one of the hardest things to buy. The problems come in because everyone has a different take on what coffee is supposed to taste like and unfortunately many of them are dead wrong. The most important thing for anyone that really enjoys coffee the way it is supposed to be made is that the water heats up to a sufficient temperature (greater than 190 degrees). This allows for the best flavor to be extracted from the coffee ground without that bitter taste that you get when the temperature is too low. Since most people don't know that you don't find that information in most reviews. I found that information in the good reviews for this product and it had an overall rating of 4.5 at the time that I purchased it but I was a bit concerned with some of the bad reviews. They pointed to things like the carafe leaking, the hot water dispenser side leaking or not functioning correctly, bad tasting water, etc. Well, I'm happy to report that I have not seen any of these problems.

Pros

1) Hot water dispenser heats water to 185 degrees. This is perfect for anything you might want to use it for.

2) The coffee maker side heats the water to about 200 degrees. This is GREAT for making a really good cup of coffee.

3) The coffee temperature allows the coffee too stay warm even after I add half & half.

4) The lid on the carafe is NOT hinged which means that it doesn't flop around when you're pouring and it doesn't have a flimsy hinge to break.

5) The hot water dispenser side is HUGE, much larger than it looks in the pictures. That is why I've uploaded some pictures with mugs sitting on it and my tape measure showing the actual size. It fits both very wide and very tall mugs.

6) The auto-off setting is adjustable from 1-4 hours. This is great for my mom who likes to brew a pot and drink it all morning.

7) The indicator lights on the hot water side that let you know when the water is ready and when you need to add water are great.

8) Indicator light lets you know when it is time to clean the unit.

Cons

1) I'm not really sure how much safer the safety lock is on the hot water side. Anyone that can reach the lever can EASILY slide that safety lock to the left.

2) This is a small nitpick but pointing out small things like this show how much I really like this coffee maker. In order to set the clock you switch the switch to Clock and then hold down the HR button until the time starts blinking. What else am I going to do while I have the switch set to Clock? Why do I have to hold down that button too? The only reason this actually bugs me is because if you hold it down a split second too long it will begin to change the hour. So if you only wanted to change the minute it can be annoying.

3) This is only a con at first. The first time you pour water into the coffee side the angle of where you have to pour it makes you feel like you're going to spill it. Not to worry though. The design of the carafe and the fact that the flipped up lid will catch the water if you go to far make it really easy. Just don't hesitate and you'll find that it is as easy as pie to pour the water in.

Finally, this thing makes a GREAT TASTING cup of coffee. I can't believe I finally have a drip coffee maker that I enjoy using. Prior to this any time I wanted a good cup of coffee I would break out my French Press.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. I'll be glad to check it out and get back to you.

This machine was to make both the coffee hound and the tea lover in our family happy in the morning. Only one of us is happy.. No complaints at all with the coffee maker..

The hot water dispenser has a strong bad taste that I cant get rid of with repeated vinegar or the 1 cup of lemon juice suggested by the customer service representative.. She had heard my story many times before..

The taste is similar to drinking out of a garden hose. The customer rep assured me that the insides are stainless steel and not plastic. I think there may be some quality control issues...

Even if I could get the bad taste out, the dispenser will only release 16 oz of water for the 32 oz you must put into it. This leaves 16 oz to sit until the next day to be reheated when you add 16 oz of new water.

You must always put in 32 oz to get out 16 oz. If you put in any amount less than 32 oz, the "add water" light will come on after only 6 oz drawn out..The machine will not let you take more than this out--even thought there is plenty more inside of it.

Consequently the new water put in always mixes with the old water that is both stale and bad tasting. Who wants day old water that has the taste diminished further by reheating?

I see this as a big design flaw that requires you to take the entire machine to the sink, pull the very ergonomically incorrect and difficult plug out of the bottom and manually drain it... The manual tells you to do this if the water has been in the dispenser a week or more...

There always will be water in the dispenser a week or more.. yuck..

I say back to the drawing board with this item..

Not what I expected from Cuisinart...

Honest reviews on Cuisinart CHW-12 Coffee Plus 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

My last old Cuisinart bit the dust so I was in the market for a new one. I had also been in the market for a water kettle but really did not like the idea of having one more appliance on my counter top. When I checked out the Cuisinart web site to see what was new I was blown away by the idea of this coffee maker that also dispensed hot water!! I was so excited about it I had it sent overnight.

I have only had it for a day but oh what a wonderful cup of coffee I had this morning and right now I am loving the convenience of having hot water available for my tea drinking!

Pros: Everything!! In perfect working order and I was able to follow the manufacture's instructions on hot water without any problems at all! Best cup of coffee I have had even counting my old Cuisinart!

Cons: Only 1 negative so far. It is awkward pouring water into the coffee maker side and I guess I will need more practice at this to keep from splashing water all over everything.

So far extremely pleased with my purchase!!

This is really a great unit. Coffee brews perfectly. As far as the water dispenser, mine works fine. It notices water levels etc. The only thing is that the water will start to smell bad (metallic) if it is left in the resevoir too long. I would say follow the instructions. It says to empty the water resevoir fully if you do not plan to run the water function for more than a week, or to store the unit. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the unit (who knew)... I drained it and refilled it, flushed a couple of times and the water is much better. No more metallic taste/smell... OK, Just an FYI...

I bought this fireplace to go outside on my covered porch about six months ago. I was slow to provide a review as I at least wanted to see how it held up in this atmosphere after a few months. Well I really did not buy it for necessarily for a lot of heat , more for looks. And it has not let me down. It does produce heat but since my configuration is outside, I really cant say how much heat it would give off inside. But it is sure worth the try.... i love it and my back yard is an extention of my home.
