I live in BC Canada and live in an older home. I took temperature readings around the house before and after installing these heaters. I have 5 of them in 3 bedrooms and two large hallways. My old energy consumption was 7500 watts per hour for the 5 old heaters. Currently my new heaters use a total of 2000 watts per hour and far more efficient so they run less than my old heaters. That is a 73% Energy savings!!! Each of these panels use 400 watts of power (which is like running FOUR 100 watt light bulbs)

This heater is more like a "room temperature maintainer" than a heater. It's great to use in a bedroom and bathroom (up to 120 Sq feet) however remember that this heater works best to keep a room temperature at a certain temp, rather than heating a room quickly. So if you room is at a certain temp, this heater will make sure it stays at that temp. In fact it takes HOURS to heat up a room with this heater, but that's how radiant heat works. It's a slow and steady process. Once it gets to a target temp, it keeps temperatures nice and warm and comfortable rather than feeling like you are in a blast furnace. Think of a camp fire. You can warm yourself directly off the fire (like a traditional heater) or heat your feet on some fire stones around the fire for many many hours (like these heaters.

I highly suggest you buy a temperature control wall socket switch (or build one using a single pole thermostat). That's where you get the most energy savings. That's because once you hit the target temp, these heaters really do a great job kicking on for a few minutes to maintain a temp and shutting off. NOTE: even when power is cut to the panels they still generate heat for 30 to 45 minutes. This is because the panels are nothing but an electric element encased in a ceramic panel. The element heats up the cermanic panel and that's what really heats up the room. Takes a while for these panels to cool down, so you get a heating bonus even with power is shut off.

====TESTING========

Here's my Test numbers using the Panel heaters:

BEFORE

Bedroom at 8 pm (before heaters) : 20 degrees Celsius (or 68 F)

Bedroom at 8 am (when I get up before the heaters): 12 degrees Celsius (or 53.6 F)

AFTER

Bedroom at 8 pm (with heaters) : 20 degrees Celsius (or 68 F)

Bedroom at 8 am (when I get up): 21 degrees Celsius (or 70 F)

These numbers are consistent in all the rooms I tested. So use these panels do work.

=====IMPORTANT OBSERVATIONS======

1) When they mean 120 sq feet. They REALLY mean 120 sq feet in a well insulated room. If you have bad insulation, these heaters will do nothing. Don't even think about using these to heat an open concept large room.

2) The lower to the ground, the better these things work. The instructions suggest 3 to 6 inches off the ground and that's the best. I mounted one in the centre of the wall because of all the stuff in the room. Compared to the one's I have at the 6 inches off the ground, the performance difference is quite extreme. Almost a 60% loss in efficiency. Makes sense because these heaters send heat upwards and not forward. So it sends hot air up the wall..heating also the wall on the way up to the ceiling. The longer the stretch of wall to heat, the more effective it is.

3) These heaters do get hot but don't damage the walls. I have pets that like to sleep close to them and you can touch them by hand and not get burned...but not for long. Please don't put crap in front of the heater. That just should be obvious.

4) Painting these do help it blend into the environment of the room walls very well. You kind of forget about them unless you get near them.

5) Heaters are completely silent. No fans.

6) The heat feels different. My old heaters felt like a hair-dryer on my face when the fans kicked on. This heat is more subtle and more cozy. Feels more like being in a blanket of warm air in summer time.

===== Cons =========

1) THE SMELL!!! When you first fire these heaters up, they have a toxic smelling scent off the heaters. NO! IT'S NOT ACTUALLY TOXIC but enough to take notice and go on-line to see if this stuff is safe to breath. Turns out it's a protective coating (for shipping purposes) that needs to burn off for 8 hours to one day. After you burn it off, there is no scent at all.

2) No instant gratification. It's a hard adjustment for some people not to turn on a heater and not get blasted with heat. These heaters take some time to get used to but once you understand they are meant to stay on for long periods rather than short bursts, you sort of forget that these heaters are on.

===== CONCLUSION =====

I would only recommend these heaters under very SPECIFIC situations (like not freezing in your bedroom while sleeping. It does what it does incredibly well as long as you stay within those specifics situations. I have used these heaters when it was snowing and they worked great, especially with my temperature controlled wall sockets. My energy bill has gone down by 70% from the previous year. It maintains the temperature of the house better than any heater I have ever own...short of a Central Heating unit and those cost alot more to run than these heaters. So if you have a bedroom or a place with pets or kids where a heater can be a fire hazard (under 120 sq feet), then this heater will work great to get the chill out of a cold climate area.

We have used 4 of them in our house for 4 winters. Our house was built in 1928 and is located on an island in SE Alaska. It gets cold and humid(60%+ year round) here, and never gets that warm in the summer(mid 50-70*) The only insulation is in the couple walls I have torn down to insulate. Half the windows are old wood single pane and the other half are milgard. We heat our home with a wood cookstove stove on the main level. We have one unit in the master bedroom(12'x14'), one in the spare bedroom(11'x14'), and two in the kids bedroom(18'x11'). The two in the kids room are on timers so they alternate through the night as to which is on. The spare and master room units are only on when we turn them on(usually only at night). They have kept the rooms warm so I would not have to get up in the night to tend the wood stove. We love them. They are great for when the weather turns cold out but not worth the hassle of starting a fire up.

I was in the market for a baseboard heater for my newly renovated basement bedroom but I was not satisfied with the traditional high wattage heater, so decided to search for a better solution. I was impressed by this product and the reviews, so decided to take the plunge and order one. I also ordered the plug in thermostat for the unit as well. My bedroom is roughly 200sq ft or so and upon turning the unit on for 10-15min, the whole room is nice and cozy. As for the surface itself, it is not too hot to touch at all.. I mean it is more than lukewarm but definitely won;t burn your hand on it (after about 30min of operation).

With the high hydro cost, I highly recommend this unit. Oh, the best thing is that it runs on regular Voltage, so there is no need to do any re-wiring at all. Just plug and go!

Second one I have purchased. Great for heating a small room (bathroom, inside porch, mudroom). Just remember do NOT TIGHTEN completely! Ceramic board does need to expand when turned on. (Learned that one on the first purchase!) Placed this one in our mudroom.......no more cold coats and shoes in the morning! Need one more for an unheated bathroom. Economical too!Econo-Heat electric panel heater

Bought this for a drafty home office after reading Amazon reviews, and I have to say, it works. Since we rent, and I didn't want to put too many screws into the wall, I attached the heater to a large piece of particle board, and now I can move it anywhere I want and simply lean it against a wall. Keeps that room fairly toasty, and the heat doesn't feel too "concentrated". It circulates noiselessly around the room, and you actually have to be really close to the unit to feel the heat coming off of it. Not so hot as to be unsafe, but warm enough to do an effective job. No complaints at all so far!

We use the cozy legs in our office setting to eliminate issues with blown breakers. It does accomplish that. Some people prefer a heater with a fan, some people find the cozy legs to be just exactly what they need. Personally, I love my cozy legs.

I also love the Customer Service I received at Toby's Tool shed. One heater arrived damaged and they immediately replaced it without hassle.

We use this heater for our small (4' x 4') outdoor chicken coop. We have it plugged in to a thermostat outlet that automatically turns it on at 35 degrees and off at 45 degrees. We installed the heater onto one of the interior walls and also insulated the coop. This heater works well for us because we didn't want a heater with too much power for such a small space. It seems to keep the coop about 10 degrees warmer than the outdoor temperature, but it hasn't gotten below 30 degrees yet. We are happy with it so far and the chickens seem to like it.

I ordered this along with the half power switch for my chicken coop. It works great. Egg production went up as well.

Honest reviews on Cozy Legs Panel Heater CL

This product keeps my legs warm. I purchased it for several reasons: to keep me warm in the office; to reduce costs; and to stop my eyes from drying out from the use of a regular heater. I would give it 5 stars, but since the stand and the Hi/Lo control are separate expenses (and pay for shipping for these 2 "extra" items) then it only gets 4 stars.

This was the first winter in a long time that I stayed warm in my office! The panel sits under the desk and the control sits on the desktop. No one even knows its there. It came with a stand.

I needed a heater fan in a hurry due to an acting up regulator on a radiator. Much to my surprise when I went to the store there was a Vornado. Vornados the best out there. it was listed at $55.00 but was sold out.

So I see this Sunbeam for $24.00 for some comfort until I fix the radiator I figure it's worth it.

BOY WAS I SURPRISED. This baby heat up my bedroom pronto. Granted its not for 2 bedrooms but boy for the size of it did it do the job. Heres some specs.

Pros.

1st. It has a high and low button setting.

2nd. You can adjust the desired temperature with the push of a button.

3rd. The fan Oscillates. This product also works as a fan.

4th. The face plate or covering does not get hot.

5th. The fan shuts off once the temperature is attained. It's safe.

6th. In a 30 by 30 foot closed bedroom this appliance will heat it fast.

7th. Price

Cons.

1st. Build quality after throwing it around a bit the Oscillator needs to be moved by hand in order for it to work correctly. My fault.

2nd. The fan itself for cooling yourself off in the summer not good but this is a heating fan.

The Sunbeam works super for the price I paid for it. 2yrs have gone by and the regulator on my radiator remains the same as the day I bought the Sunbeam. Get it.

This heater did wonders out on a camping trip with my wife. it got into the 40's and with the oscillation feature my 16x11 two room tent stayed nice and cozy at night. even after running for hours i could still touch the front or back of it so it is great for people with children.

I had already bought two of these elsewhere for six dollars more than here, and when I saw them here at this price I bought a third and am already using it. These are simply fantastic heaters. They are quiet, oscillate if you want them to, allow you to specify the exact temperature you want, and do not use much electricity. I went the entire winter without turning the heat up over 60 degrees because I had two of these in the two rooms I live in most. My electric bill was hundreds of dollars lower, and I was just as comfortable as when I used the furnace, except I was able to get much more precise temperature control with these. I've been looking everywhere so I could buy a third heater and was delighted to find it here at a lower price and for free shipping. My sister had bought a different and much more expensive type of heater, but after seeing how mine work she took hers back and bought one of these from Amazon. She is very impressed with how quickly it heats up her large bedroom and simply loves it.

You just plug this heater in, press the round button in the middle, and press either the left or right button to make the temperature go higher or lower. When you're done using it, you press the button to turn it off and it will count down 10 seconds and turn off the fan. To get the red light to go out, you unplug it.

I did notice that this one has a "new" smell when you plug it in, and you have to run it for awhile to get rid of that.

Honest reviews on New SUNBEAM SFH613 LCD Electric Fan Forced Portable Heater

I purchased this shortly before Christmas and it is now not powering on. Was nice while it worked but a one month lifespan tells me that Sunbeam isn't really concerned about quality control.

Purchased one for our popup camper about two months ago. We've been winter camping down here in Texas 5 times since I purchased this unit. With only one unit in our 14ft popup, i can easily keep the interior temperature at 75deg even through nights near at or below freezing. This unit is very quiet and being able to set the thermostat to the temperature you want is fantastic. We liked it so much we've purchased two more for around the house use.

The nicest thing about it is that you can put your hand on the front and back grill while it's running and not burn yourself....even after it's been running for an hour or more.

I highly recommend this product.

Just recieved the unit today. Installing the top bar on it was odd, and more difficult than it needed to be, the screws didn't seem to grip to the main unit. Otherwise installation was easy. When you look through the louvers you can see light through the back of the unit, which doesn't seem right to me. And you can see the styrofoam that lines the unit quite well both through the louvers and through the back. So thats where they saved some $$. With the styrofoam exposed like that I don't think I'd leave the unit in the window to brave a New York winter. It also doesn't appear to be airtight. It does get the room cool. The fan speeds are high, higher and blastoff. Not really a 'low' option, and its not quiet but I like white noise when I sleep anyway.

My next unit will have to have a remote though, and a digital temperature guage which this does not have. But that's for a richer time and a better economy. Until then, this one will work fine.

I chose this particular model because it did not have all the fancies. Who needs another remote?? I live in a cottage with large rooms and very high ceilings. I just put this unit in the window, and I am a 60 y.o woman with a bad back and yes, I put it in alone! Naturally, I am sweating because I JUST put it in the window. I am in the back of my house and I feel it already way back here! It has only been operating maybe 10 minutes. In the reviews from others, some said this unit is noisy. I hear it but would hardly call it noisy. This is an outstanding buy! I was a little worried about ordering an item like this online and once again Amazon came through like a champ. Item was delivered in 2 business days. I let it sit at the door for a week waiting for someone to put it in for me. Yesterday's 85 degree temp made me give it a shot. I am proud of me! I made a good purchase and installation was a snap! Thanks Amazon, love you much!

This is a great little air conditioner for the price. The only thing I wish it had is a thermostat to regulate the temperature. You must continually turn it on and off by hand to keep the room at the right temp. It does a great job though.

Honest reviews on Frigidaire FRA082AT7 8,000 BTU Window-Mounted Compact Room Air

With my narrow home office double window, I was delighted to find an appliance small enough to fit one of the windows and make it possible to work at my computer nonstop. It cools quietly and efficiently.

I originally wrote a good review for this. After a couple of weeks, I am writing another one.

It is noisy, the compressor sounds like someone fired a gun next door when it kicks in and it seems like it is always kicking in or out. I am going to return this one if possible, if not I will sell it to someone I don't like. The fan is noisier on low than my GE's from home depot are on high. If you like the price, and don't mind noise buy this one. It also does not have a remote, I should have read closer and the temp. control is touchy, hot, move it a little and freeze. Nothing good to say. I just ordered a sharp 8,000 for around $30 more and it has energy saver, timer and remote. I buy a LOT from Amazon and this is the second item I have not liked and both were my fault for being a cheapskate. Amazon is wonderful and anyone that has shopped on line knows that for sure. Not Amazons fault, but they will probably send me a label to ship it back and it won't cost me a dime. They are always within a buck or two if they don't beat the competition straight up and the free shipping is free both ways if you buy from Amazon. Love Amazon.

Next day comment.

I called Amazon and told them about the problems with this product and that it was past the time window for return. They said "no problem" and sent me a prepaid mailing label. I also asked if it was OK to wait until the new one I ordered last night got here and got the same answer. I checked and the new one I ordered last night is already shipped. Love Amazon.

UPDATE

Less than two weeks after returning the prepaid package I got confirmation today that my credit card has been credited with the total amount of my order. My new AC is working great and Amazon has come through again. This is still a lousy product, but that is the great thing about Amazon, if you make a mistake the make it better.

We have purchased several of Warmrails over the years and been quite satisfied. The construction and finish were as advertised. However, the latest units are JUNK. They have a painted "brushed nickel" finish, not even close to real brushed nickel. The attachments of the rails to the vertical supports is now a cheap poorly made screw. Most were loose when received and impossible to tighten because the wires run thru the middle of the nut. The old ones were brazed or otherwise solidly connected rails to supports.

The pictures from the suppliers show the old (good) style, but that is not what you will get. This is gross misrepresentation of the product and should be pulled by Amazon.

Ok, where to start...

The item is cheap! Don't mistake it for a high end warmer.

The bars are curved and are not tight enough to stay in one position. With no way to tighten. So the top bar is doing 360 (hope there isn't a wire I am gonna twist off and break inside).

The coating is a nickel-colored paint. Not too realistic, but would be fine if it didn't chip away easily. (Someone else mentioned same)

Would be also nice if the paint on the unit matched the wall mount piece.

The shipping is cheap! Unit arrived in a plastic bag (that's it!) So before I even received it it was already banged up and missing the "nickel" paint in a few places. But it's large and annoying to have to ship back, so... I am going forward with the project.

For the person who said this is an easy install: you sir/madam are full of ... (or are employed by Warmrails).

If you are going to plug it into an outlet that's NOT an install. That's how you hang a painting. And you would need to rip it out of the wall when you vacate/sell the place. (And close 8 huge holes you've created hanging it up).

If you want it to actually increase the value of your bathroom, you need to do a WALL MOUNT install. (Read: add half a day and if you can't do electrical work, add $80 for an electrician).

And this is where it all goes south quick.

1) you will need additional parts and a whole bunch of tools. (At least the right grade of an in-wall aluminum wire ($10) and 2 screws for the wall mounting plate which are for some ungodly reason missing.

2) you will need to shorten the (wall-to-unit) pipe that comes with it. because it is TOO LONG. (For NO apparent reason. It's not like the wall can SOMEHOW miraculously be at a different distance than the PLASTIC LEG of the warmer 2 inches away! I recommend a dremel. But any metal saw will do. Also, the wall cover is a sliver larger than a traditional mount box giving you zero chance to get that right.

3) There are no templates for the wall cut out. So... good luck eyeing it. There are also no plastic/metal box to host the wiring OR the plastic ends for merging 3 wires. (I guess that's part of #1).

4) If you have a huge bathroom with lots of wall space near the tub you are in luck. If you live in/near a city you are OUT of luck. As the "easy to remove" tiny screws could be impossible to reach once the warmer is mounted on the wall.

5) One of the screw threads on the switch box was busted. Which caused a bunch of grief during the install.

Easy install this is not. PAY SOMEONE TO INSTALL IT you will not regret the 1/2 a day wasted.

Add $30 in additional parts to your cost for *proper* install.

Another gripe this thing requires a full 3 wire install. Which means you can't mount it off of an electric switch (hot+ground) you need a full blown outlet (or a new run). Which is unnecessary and complicates things.

I was planning to buy another one for the second bathroom. I think I'll skip on that.

Does it work? YES.

Does it look ok on a wall? YES.

Do I wish they would spend extra $5 on parts so I don't have to spend $30? Yes

Do I wish ill on whomever designed it and didn't consider tight working conditions? Indubitably!

Quality of the unit itself: 5/10

Difficulty of an outlet install: 3/10

Difficulty of an in-wall install: 10/10

Best Deals on Jerdon HSKC Warmrails Kensington Wall Mounted Towel Warmer

Decent build, fairly easy to install (after all, I installed it myself). The most important issue to remember if you are thinking of buying this is this device will not produce steaming, hot towels like you would get at a spa.

The temperature is not adjustable.

Otherwise, works as advertised.

Honest reviews on Jerdon HSKC Warmrails Kensington Wall Mounted Towel Warmer

I've been very happy with this towel warmer. I recently renovated my bathroom and had the builders install this, so I can't speak to the difficulty of hardwiring this personally, but after a professional installation this works very well. Keep in mind, your towels don't get toasty hot, they get dry (and warm). My only quibble is that Warmrails puts some really cheap-looking clear plastic stickers on this. Once you take them off, which you'll want to do because they don't even bother to put them on straight or to make sure they aren't crimped, they leave a sticky residue. I haven't been sure how to clean this off, but I guess it hasn't bothered me that much because I'm sure I could figure it out pretty easily. This is an easy and inexpensive way to turn your bathroom into a bit of a spa, and I'm glad I purchased this.

We purchased two smaller Warmrails towel warmers from Amazon for our master bath in the spring of 2007 and liked them so much we decided to add this large Warmrails towel warmer for our guest bath. All of them are superb. One of the best features is that, in the humid summer weather here in Vermont, the towels get quite dry within several hours. In the winter, of course, the towels are toasty warm. If someone wants really hot towels, this towel warmer is probably not the best choice -towels get warm but not hot-hot. We fold our towels so they are 4 layers thick, and put them over the towel warmer (i.e., 4 layers over the front and 4 layers in the back), and 3 of the layers are quite warm.

We purchased the towel warmer with a plug-in option. The cord is fairly long, and our electrician was able to thread the cord through a hole right behind the towel warmer, and plug it into an outlet in a closet behind the bathroom. This made the cord practically invisible in the bathroom. Finally, the towel warmer metal rails are quite warm, but I can put my hand on them for a few seconds without feeling like I will get burned. I would highly recommend the Warmrails product.

I use this heater to heat my workshop. My work shop is a 20x26 space. I insulated the ceiling and made sure to weather seal all the doors. I use a 170k BTU heater kero heater to bring the shop up to temp and then let this guy take over to keep it warm. No smell fumes and it fuel efficient. I run it off 30 lb tanks and so far I have over 30 hours on one take. I run it mostly on the low setting. Its easy to setup and use.
