I had a great floor fan with remote for several years and was very happy with it, but, alas, it died. I purchased this Dyson, because I have been pleased with their vacuum cleaners. And it is a technological marvel.

However, there are a few things perspective buyers should know: it is called an "Air Multiplier" not a "Fan" per se. The difference is there are no blades to move the air. Dyson says this "eliminates the "choppiness" from fan blades". The best way to describe the difference in air movement is with a regular fan you feel the air being "fanned" upon you, with the Dyson Air Multiplier you feel the air just blowing on you. Imagine the difference between someone "fanning" you with a leafy palm branch vs. just blowing air on you). I have come to realize that I prefer the "choppiness" of fan blades because the more the air is agitated

as it is augmented, the more your skin feels the air currents and the better for the evaporation of sweat and the disipation of heat. But that's just my opinion on the best cooling air movements. It is quieter at lower speeds, but noisy (like a jet engine whine) at top speeds. The remote is very small and has only three buttons, one for on/off; one for variable fan speeds (just up or down, no pre-set low, med, high); and one to oscillate. (My old fan's remote was larger and included a temperature gauge to tell you the room's temperature and it also had a light for night use). But the worst design flaw in this product is that the remote's receiving sensor is in the base of the unit(right down on the floor). So, because I have a rather high bed, I have to sit up in bed and aim the remote down towards the floof to adjust the speed or turn the unit on of off, etc. That really seems to me to be a glaring design flaw in a fan that costs over $350 dollars.

BOTTOM LINE: It's not a FAN, it's an "Air Multiplier", that blows on you instead of fanning you. I would

recommend waiting until they improve the design of the remote control.

I couldn't decide between the Dyson Pedestal fan and the Tower Fan, so I went ahead and bought both to compare. Yes we kept both as well.

The Tower fan is great for the Living Room or family room for it stays more compact (slim and low profile) and spreads the air less concentrated on one area.(high and low)There is no adjustments that can be made on this fan, meaning no tilting or bringing the unit up and down. What you see it what you get.

The Pedestal fan is great for our bedroom; we have a really high bed. At the highest point of the pedestal fan it's even to where we lay. Since the Fan is more like a standard oscillating fan, the air is more concentrated to one area, so at night we through it on medium to low and let it keep us cool at night. The pedestal fan can be adjusted to the height by simply pushing it down or pulling up on the actually circle part of the fan. (The frame tube extends or compresses very handy and fast to do) Also this fan has a tilt. (The circle head part can be aimed where you want it) This fan is a little bulkier needs more room then the tower fan. (Due to the adjustments and the diameter or the circle part when oscillating)

On both models the High setting does a lot of air, at a louder noise. We joke about it and say the jet is taking off, for the fan does lean back a little when we turn the knob up. Set up of both fans is quick and very easy

The remotes are very handy and awesome. To store the remote it's a magnet in the fan and in the remote, so just lay the remote on the fan and it sticks

Overall Great Fans, if you can get over the Price of a $450 fan, you will be happy with it. They do have a 2 year warranty with Dyson, so that is nice. Our fans always break after 1 summer; these fans have been going strong for 1 year now, still no problems.

Both fans have the same amount of air coming through them on high settings, so there no difference in power between the two models.

Despite the ridiculous price, any serious fan-atic will appreciate this insanely simple device. The breeze is adjustable, the white noise is perfect for sleeping, and it just feels cool to own one. In pictures it looks like a bulky, heavy piece of equipment, but it's actually more plastic than metal, making it very lightweight (a plus from a mobility standpoint, a questionable minus from a structural standpoint). But I am pleased with everything about it. It it were 200 bucks I'd have one in every room.

Honest reviews on Dyson AM03 Pedestal Fan, Silver

The Dyson AM03 is a beautifully designed, yet poorly engineered product. One would think for $450 retail (and even for $299 on sale), that the fan would have outstanding engineering. The designers did their job, the engineers failed to consider at least one important factor in inventing a portable fan. Fans need not only cool, but should not raise the ambient noise level in a room so high that persons must raise their voices to be heard over the fan. On high the fan sounds like a jet liner taking off.

I love the look of the fan, and I would not trade my Dyson Vacuum cleaner for any other brand. But, unlike my vacuum cleaner which is designed to suck in a good way; the AM03 does so in a bad way.

The Amazon experience and the folks Buy Happier could not be any better. I am completely pleased with the buying experience. The product, however, fails to measure up.

I bought this fan on a bit of a whim. I live in San Francisco so it never gets incredibly hot but a fan is a welcome addition when we do have warmer days. So far this fan has performed better than I expected. The fan is definitely expensive but is easy to see where your money went. The unboxing reminded me of buying a Mac computer. It was elegantly packaged, concise and easy to understand. Putting the unit together took less than 5 minutes and has great fit and finish (like you would expect from a $300 fan).

It has a nice industrial feel with the plastic and aluminum housing. The weight is light enough to be portable but also sturdy enough to hold the fan in place on max speed. The fan has many speed settings and can be set easily by the remote or the actual base. As far as noise on normal settings its relatively quiet, but if you do turn it all the way up the swoosh of the air is audible. To give you an idea if I turn the fan to max and stand about 10-12 feet away it generates around 8-9db of white noise (my flat with windows open is at 51db and the fan at full was 59).

So one question might be can you tell a difference with this choppy air claim, and to be honest I really can't. It may feel a bit softer but that could be placebo. It will generate a good amount of air though.

The fan itself is easy to adjust, less obtrusive than a traditional fan and unless you step in front of the air flow path you wouldn't even know its on. I personally like the fact that when in operation only a circle around the power button faintly glows blue.

If you like minimalist, don't want your view blocked, or enjoy "mac" style engineering this probably is a safe bet for you.

Just as an FYI the power cord termination has a fuse built in so it might be wise to get a spare or at least be aware of it if your fan stops working.

Efficiently heats our small 2nd bedroom, but does so at the cost of a fairly loud "click" whenever the thermostat activates/deactivates. The click is loud enough to hear from another bedroom, and tends to wake up our 6 month old baby if he's not in deep sleep. Otherwise, the timer feature and heating power are very good, but you need to be aware of how loud that click is during an otherwise silent night. If they'd fix that annoyance, I'd give this 5 stars.

The DeLonghi EW7507EB is my first radiant heater.

I originally intended to buy the TRD0715T, however when I went to the store to look at it, my wife and I agreed the big red dial for the timer coupled with the weird off white color was simply too gaudy and not condusive to our room's design, not to mention this is 2011 hello? who still uses analog gauges??? I then figured a Digital interface for the heater would certainly make the looks far better. I again did my homework and found this heater (EW7505EB) and the Honeywell version (HWLHZ709). On the Target website, the Honeywell version had 2.5 stars after 51 reviews and many indicated serious issues. That left me with one choice the DeLonghi EW7507EB...

I did find one at Lowe's and noticed it had an additional L at the end of the part number (EW7507EBL) but realized it meant it was for Lowe's version. When I researched this unit on Lowes.com I found that 10 out of 11 gave it 5 out of 5 stars and one person gave it 4 out of 5, as well as no one reporting serious issues, thus I went ahead and bought it. (i got it for 59 bucks)

I have now used it for around a month and I can't be more pleased. It was roughly $10 dollars more than the awful gaudy white version and this one is more energy efficient since it has three temp levels rather than two.

It has a thermostat that is perfect, you can set it to come on and turn off automatically with two different timer profiles. Plus the thermostat is dead on, I put a thermometer in the room I was heating all the way across the room from the heater and the temperature I set was exactly the temperature of the room every time.

It is super quiet, it only makes a click noise when it turns on and off that is hardly noticable.

The heater is not super hot to the touch, it comes with warnings and I would definitly read them (and heed them), but it has not burnt me when I brush against it or touch it for a second or two.

It definitely produces better heat than the ceramic type heaters since it doesn't dry out the air, thus it is a more even constant heat. It also heats pretty quickly, since there are three settings, low, medium, and high, you can choose how fast you want the room to heat up. Additionally in the thermostat mode you can limit it to low and medium or all three to keep the temperature constant.

The last thing that I have only used once is when you leave your house for an extended period of time you can set it for freeze protection. The thermostat turns the heater on when the room reaches 42 degrees to prevent things from freezing. It is convenient to save the money and not have to heat the house when gone.

I love this thing and would definitely buy it again!

I have tried a number of supplimental heaters in the geust room of our older home in Seattle and this has been by far the best. It has no problems heating this 140 sq ft room with a large window on the medium power setting. Things I particularly like about this unit are a) Multiple power settings 690W, 780W, 1440W by my meter. Far better than other units which have off and on at ~1500W and therefor should really be the only appliance on a circuit or you risk flipping a breaker or worse. b) Digital Thermostat You can set the unit to within 1 degree of the tempurature you want. Far better than other units I've tried which either have some funky 'temperature' dial or a thermostat in 5 degree increments. Also the thermostat chooses the best power setting (up to the maximum you have set) for a more even heat (less overshooting and undershooting your selected temperature). c) No Fan This means it heats up the room more slowly but it's completely silent. e) Time Programable You can set different temperatures for different times of the day just like most homes now have on their main heating and cooling systems (from personal experience this has saved me 15-20% on heating bills over running at a constant temperature). d) Size It's not too large and reasonably light for this style of heater and will pack away into a small closet when not in use.

On the down side no matter how small they are, oil radiant heaters are ugly and the black color makes it stand out even more. Also it would be nice if it had and handle for lifting it. All in all though I'm very happy.

Honest reviews on DeLonghi EW7507EB Oil Filled Radiator Heater Black 1500W

I bought this heater about a month ago and have been very pleased with it. I use it in my 18 month old bedroom. This is my second DeLonghi heater, first one was a different model but both have worked great. I would recommend spending the extra money for the digital temp. controller. My other heater doesn't have this feature and its a pain trying to guess what setting to put it on to get the right temp. It does have the comfort zone setting but thats too warm for me while I sleep in my bedroom. The new heater is great, you just set it at any temp. and it holds it there. The only negative I would say about the heater is it does not show you what the actual room temp. is. It's not too hard to figure out though. Just raise the temp up or down until you see the heater kick on then you know that is the room temp. Some other reviews mention a loud click when the heater turns on. Unless you have dog ears you are not going to notice it. Also some reviews talked about a smell. I have never experienced this with either heater I have bought. The instructions do mention putting the heater outside for a burn off period but I never did. Pulled it right out of the box and plugged it in. No smell. Great product!

Bought this model at Lowe's after reading the reviews. It is a great unit. Has Remote control and desired temperature setting between 41 degrees and 95 degrees F. The Remote will let user set the temperature higher or lower, turn Off the unit, or set the unit for Frost Protection.

Three lights on front of panel indicate Power On to the unit, another light for power usage Red for full power, Yellow for medium power and Green for low power, and a third light indicating the Timer is being used. Initially the unit will come on at full power until the room temperature reaches the desired setting then will cycle between the Hi, Med, Low power settings to maintain room temperature. As for noise I have never heard the unit cycle 'On' but have heard a quiet cycling to 'Off'. When mine cycles On to maintain the room temperature it cycles to Low power supposedly not using as much electricity as, maybe, other oil-filled radiators.

No complaints. Highly recommended.

Update: The first unit worked so well so I bought a second unit. The first unit was very quiet...maybe you could hear a 'click' when the power cycled to Off. The second unit does makes a metallic pinging noise as the metal expands/contracts. This only lasts for about 3 to 5 'pings' then is quiet again. Box says for heating a 12 x 12 room. Mine work well with 14 x 14 rooms (one per room) plus bathroom, and temperature last night at 29 degrees F. Any time I looked to see which power level was being used it was always the Low power usage level.

We received this heater as a gift last Christmas. It performed like a dream, until March. After that, it stopped heating airbut continued to blow it. Customer service is nonexistent. You call and leave a message and then wait for a tech to call you back. It took several messages and a couple weeks to speak to said tech. He deduced that a replacement heating element would fix the problem. It was delivered quickly, and I replaced it as directed. Problem not solved. I put in a couple more calls to customer service, and never got a call back. I forgot all about it through the spring and summer, last month I decided to put in another call to customer serviceto ask for a replacement. The warranty is up next month. I'm still waiting for the "tech" to return my call.

This is my second IR heater. I bought it for the room where our television is to cut down on electric bills during cold winter evenings. I chose it for the price and also for the black color that matched with our black television and black surround sound components. The look actually fits in the room quite well, or atleast as well as any space heater can. What I didn't expect was the amount of noise that the fan makes. Perhaps it wouldn't be as noticeable in a room where you were not trying to listen to something else. The first heater I bought (different brand name) was much quieter but also much more expensive and has a wooden case. Just something to think about before buying the heater.....is the lower price worth putting up with more fan noise?

As far as shipping something of this size and weight, it came in excellent double-boxed packaging, arrived in perfect condition to my front porch, and arrived much sooner than expected.

I've had this for four months now and it works great. I use it to help heat my living room. My furnace keeps the living room at around 60 and this set at 68 on high has no problem keeping the temp at 72. I love that it doesn't get hot to the touch so I can leave it on when I'm not home for my dog's comfort.

The only problem I've had with it is it has wheels but really dislikes being moved. It has a sensor in it that shuts it off if you bump it or try to move it while it's running which isn't the problem, the problem comes in that it seems like if I move this heater while it's running and it shuts off on me, when I turn it back on the thermostat won't work so it will just run forever until I unplug it for a few seconds so it can reset itself, then it will work properly again. Idk, I guess don't move it. The room I heat is something like 10 by 40 and it has no problem adding 12 degrees to the room even when it's been 25 below in my drafty house.

Cost wise it's been good. I tried an oil radiator and it ran about $120 a month on full blast just trying to add ten degrees to the same room. This is running about $30-$50 a month running 7 days a week 24 hours a day on 67 degrees during the day and 65 at night or when I'm not home. It has a fan but it's not loud enough to even have to turn up the tv even one notch. I've never used the remote because it didn't come with batteries.

These heat the room better if they are pointed at objects like furniture because the infrared rays have to hit something to cause the room to heat up. If you put this in a good sized empty room it wouldn't heat very well. With the small emount of heat that comes directly out of this you wouldn't think it would heat well but boy does it! When the thermostat stuck the other day (see above) it heated the living room right up to 80 with no problem before I realized there was a problem. I want to stress, this has not happened except for the two times I have moved it while it was running when the safety shut off triggered it to shut down. Just unplug it for a few seconds before restarting it and it won't stick on.

Other than that one small issue it's been perfect. I bought mine locally for $80 and bought the 3 years extended warrenty for maybe $10 so hopefully if I have any problems I'll be covered, but to be honest, even if I bought one a year for $80 it's worth it. This is saving me over a hundred a month in heating costs. My heating costs are down from $200 a month to around a hundred. I'd buy it again. I took the star off for the thermostat issue.

This is a great machine, I have recommended it to everyone I know.

Here are some facts so you can see if it's right for you:

1) It cools the air. Enough so that if you point it at yourself you will get goosebumps. You can also use it as fan. It moves more air than a typical household fan.

2) It is only meant to cool 250 square feet which means it works wonders in our bedroom but in our living room it can cool down our sofa area but not the whole room.

3) It's louder than a fan but it's quieter than an idling truck.

4) Ridiculously easy to use, fill, and clean.

5) When you turn on the cooling element it will make a slight crinkling sound as water is sucked into the filter. That's normal. It also will decrease the fan speed if you have it on 3 (high) for a few minutes to get the cooling going and then will turn back to 3 (high) once it's cooled. Don't fiddle with it.

6) It has a timer that you can set in 30 minute intervals. The timer counts down in 30 minute intervals as well, which is a slight flaw in my opinion.

7) It doesn't oscillate. I'm not sure if any swamp coolers oscillate but it would have been so great if it did because it's too cold to have pointed directly at the bed continuously.

8) Lastly it works great in Colorado because of the arid environment (We're also somewhat high in elevation). It won't work as well in semi-arid or Mediterranean environments such as California (West of the Sierras).

I noticed all the bad reviews on evaporative coolers but having lived in a dry climate most of my life (Colorado), I can tell you this is a high quality EC and any decent EC will work fine if you follow a couple of rules. Please understand these are coming from people in non-humid climates or people who are in dry climates and don't understand how these work differently than ACs.

TIP 1: Leave two windows cracked open for cross ventilation This would be stupid if we were talking about AC's but if a EC is left running in a closed up house or room, it will make the room humid and not cool it down. You want to have dry (outdoor) air come in through the EC so it cools down the air and blows it through the room. When it cools the air down, it makes a little more humid than it was before so you also want a cross draft so the warm air and any humidity has a place to escape. I put my EC about a foot in front of a cracked window so it gets a fresh supply of dry air and I leave another window cracked open on the other side of the room so warm and humid air will escape. If it gets very hot outside I sometimes close the cracked windows until it gets a little too humid for my liking then open them again this method works well for me but your milage may vary.

TIP 2: Use ice water in the water reservoir Putting ice and or cooling packs in the reservoir along with water will help keep the water cold which in turn make the EC work more efficiently.

TIP 3: Clean your EC out occasionally ECs will accumulate dust and dirt from the air so it if the air it's blowing out smells dusty or is causing allergies it probably just needs a good rinse. Fortunately this unit is very easy to clean.

LIMITATION 1: Won't work if it's humid. Get an AC if you live in a humid climate.

LIMITATION 2: Won't cool down 105ºF air down to 65ºF No EC will do this or at least not in a reasonable amount of time. If you follow my tips though, you can get 105 degrees down to 78.

ECs are cheaper, more efficient and better for the environment than AC's but definitely have their limitations. If evaporative coolers are right for you, this a is a good buy.

*****NOTE: If you live in a humid climate, this will not work. It's not made for that. Evaporative coolers are useful for high altitude and/or dry climates only.*****

I live in New Mexico and this year it's unbearably hot out there. I live in a town house that already has a swamp cooler, but management seems to think that this tiny cooler blowing through one vent on the second floor is enough to cool the entire house. WRONG! The air isn't even cool anymore by the time it reaches the first floor. It's awful. A cooler that size can only do so much when it's over 100 degrees. So I decided to shop for a portable one for downstairs and found this one. It sounded like a great deal for the price. I got it in and it is WONDERFUL!!! It's almost too cold in here, I'm in love!! It was easy to set up. Just fill and plug it in and you're good to go. I LOVE that it has a remote and that it's small and aesthetically pleasing. It's also very quiet and gets cool right away. I like the wheels on the bottom too, it's great that I can roll it to the kitchen for when I'm cooking. I didn't cook a thing for the first part of the summer because the stove just makes it impossible in this heat. The ice packs are REALLY helpful for the crazy hot days too, great idea!! I highly recommend this cooler, especially to all of you New Mexicans out there. It's MORE than worth it, I'm VERY happy with it!!!!!!

Honest reviews on Luma Comfort EC110S Portable Evaporative Cooler

My husband and I were looking for something that would work in our climate (pretty dry with very little humidity) when we thought we'd give this a shot. It's great!!! It's super quiet which is important to us since our dog freaks out at most loud noises. It's also much better looking then the ones we've seen in the stores. It cools our living room down perfectly and uses a ton less energy than an AC unit.

I highly recommend this product if you're looking for something that isn't an eye sore and powerful at the same time!

I seldom need any cooling up here in the mountains but it has been getting warmer in June and before the rains begin in July than was normal in the past. So with the forecast for the weekend over 90 I decided to order this. I wanted something light and better at cooling than a fan. The humidity is always low here usually around 10%. So this seemed ideal. It arrived sooner than promised so was in time for the predicted hot weather. I'm on Prime so no shipping costs. Unpacking the box was easy. A local store carries this model but for $20 more and they were out of stock and "would order it for me" but I would have to pick it up at the store and carry it home in my little car. LOL I LOVE AMAZON!!! Delivery right to the door.

The only assembly was putting the included battery into the remote control. I put the ice packs into my freezer but as it turned out I didn't need them at least not yet.

Washing the water tank (recommended for first use) was easy and replacing it when full was no problem. I set it up in the kitchen because of the hard flooring there just in case of leaks but no leaks. The controls are easy to use without the instruction booklet but the instructions are also easy to read and follow.

The area to be cooled is above the upper limit of 250 square feet and it has a cathedral ceiling as well but the cooling effect was almost immediate. My desk is at the far side of the room and I am quite comfortable now. The noise is a very light white noise kind of sound no clanking. Quieter than most fans.

AS of now I am sitting by a west facing window in the afternoon 90degrees outside and very comfortable inside. As a plus, the extra humidity feels wonderful without being gooey like usual humidifiers. I was particularly concerned about too much moisture because of all my books but this is not a problem.

The unit also looks good with my modern furniture and seems well designed. It has wheels that are a little difficult on carpeting but it also has handles molded into the sides so even short little me can lift it without trouble. I will update this review as the expected heat wave is in progress. But right now I am so glad I ordered it.

This heater works really well for heating our living room. We found out it is running our electric bill up sky high. It was supposed to be "energy efficient" and lower you heating bills. Well, it has done just the opposite for us. I would not recommend this heater if you are worried about your electric bill.

This heater was great--quiet and quick to heat up, but for no reason that I can tell, it stopped heating (worked fine yesterday, not today--nothing happened to it, it wasn't even moved). It's on, but even at the full-heat setting, it's just warm. (It used to get hot.)

I called the company and found out that Lakewood was bought out by a company that doesn't even know they used to carry this heater. Forget about support--these heaters aren't even listed in their "no longer supported" system files.

They were imported from China for Lakewood. If they are still being made, I wasn't able to find the company that supplies them to the US.

I purchased this heater on October 21 of 2009. When it worked, it worked great. Heated quickly, quietly and effectively. It was used for most of our winter, NOV, DEC, JAN, and FEB. I started using it again this month, Nov 2010. It quit working, it just wouldn't heat up. I discovered what at first looked like just a malfunctioning tip-over switch since the heater would turn on when tilted to an angle, which would usually result in it turning off. Upon closer inspection I noticed a spot near the bottom of the control side, near a label, that appeared to be melting from behind. I made the decision to dismantle the side of the heater to get a look at the wiring. That's when I discovered that the power cord lead to the tip over sensor had failed causing it to overheat. Due to the close quarters the wire had been pressed against the plastic side and as it over heated it began melting the plastic. There was a black charred indentation where the wire had been pressed against the side. I am lucky that the heater failed before a fire could erupt.

THIS PRODUCT IS PERFECT FOR MY HOME.I HAVE A SMALL RANCH HOME WITH LOW CEILINGS. THIS IS THE ONLY ITEM I USE TO HEAT MY HOME. I TOLD MY OIL COMPANY TO GET LOST. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE GOES DOWN TO THE UPPER TEENS AT NIGHT MY HOUSE STAYS ACOMFORTABLE 66 INSIDE. I'M USED TO THIS TEMPERATURE BY NOW. THE LAKKEWOOD EP-2000 HAS INFRARED TECHNOLOGY ALSO ;WHICH WONT DRY OUT YOUR SINUSUS. THIS HEATER WAS ONE GREAT BY IN MY OPINION.

Product performs as expected. the one bit of advice to anyone purchasing this item is READ and pay heed to the INSTRUCTIONS! I went through 2 before I realized the reason they didn't last long was that I was letting the liquid go past the point of damaging the heater. in other words don't walk off while it's immursed for it takes one time and one time only to damage it. It takes about 5 minutes to heat water to 180 to 190 degrees perfect for tea. if you do this it will last a long time.

The name of the product is pretty self explanatory.

Its PORTABLE.

Its IMMERSIBLE.

And it HEATS.

So why would anyone not think this works well?

You can't heat soup, or lasagna, or hot chocolate or even coffee or tea if you follow the directions to the letter. You can heat WATER. PERIOD.

Anything else and you're likely going to be disappointed that the unit dies a premature death.

That immersible thing is tricky too, because the cord is short.

You can't plug it in before you immerse it.

You can't remove it while it is still plugged in.

You can't let it boil off the water leaving it above water level (meaning you CANNOT leave this unattended).

Follow these three simple rules, and I think you'll be more than pleased with yours.

One that I had lasted over a year...until-distracted-I forgot about it.

Came back to find a half full cup of water and a dead heater.

My bad.

Learn from my mistakes.

Enjoy hot beverages anywhere on the go!

AND FOR ANYONE WONDERING...

ACEHARDWAREOUTLET folks are GREAT.

Fast shipping, quick email responses, good customer service.

This is the third immersion heater I have used and it is the best. I paid twice as much for the others and this one heats water to boiling within about five minutes as opposed to ten or more minutes with the others. I got this one at ACE hardware.

Honest reviews on NORPRO 559 Immersion Heater for Warming Liquids

I bought this immersion heater to take with me into the hospital. I was having radioactive iodine treatment for thyroid cancer. I knew I'd be able-bodied, but bored, under orders to drink lots of fluids, and seeing very little of the nurses, as they do these treatments in special isolation rooms. It was such a good thing to be able to have a cup of hot herbal tea, or some cocoa, whenever I wanted, just as I would at home. The immersion heater worked perfectly. The key is to remember that you must never plug the heater in until the coil is immersed in your cup, and never remove the coil from your cup until you unplug it. The heater boils water so fast, you really do need to watch ita watched pot may never boil, but a forgotten immersion heater would boil your cup dry very quickly. I had to put my heater away in a box with the books I read in the hospital, as they scanned my stuff with a Geiger counter when my treatment was over, and it read "hot". Everything will be safe to use again after a month, and I will be glad to have the heater to use when we travel. My post-treatment scan gave me a clean bill of health, so I will be enjoying this heater for a long time to come!

Works great if you ALWAYS follow these steps:

1. Fill your cup with water

2. Insert the heater into the water, THEN plug it in.

3. It takes a couple of minutes to get the water boiling.

4. Unplug the heater first, THEN remove it from the water.

[Originally review January 2009 (3 stars), Updated July 2010]

We bought one of these for our home and liked it so much I got another for my office. It is a quick safe way to boil water. It works much better than our teapot on our conventional stove and you can leave the room without worry about all the water boiling out and a possible fire.

It is so efficient that we often use it to heat up water before putting it in a pan on the stove. It is much faster. When we are making pasta we will put a small amount of water in a large pan and fill the teapot. The water in the pot is boiling before the water on the stove. The pot is light, even when full, and has no aftertaste like I have read some of the plastic ones do.

HOWEVER, we had owned our home pot for less than six months when the 'on' switch broke off. The pot was still usable, but you have to reach in and activate it with a fingernail. It was under limited warranty, but that involved mailing it to San Diego at our own cost and sending them a check for $8 to have it returned. Including the time and materials to package it up and then drive to the post office and have it gone for 2-4 weeks wasn't worth the effort.

I have concluded we just got a lemon. Because this happened and the warranty policy was so cumbersome, I originally gave this 3 stars. But our other one is working fine and the broken piece has turned out to be a small inconvenience, so I have revised my rating to 4.6, rounding up to 5.

It's not often that one finds a product that's both visually attractive AND functionally satisfying. This kettle is one of those rare items: the shiny stainless steel body is beautiful to look at, and it boils water very very quickly! It features a nice big and sturdy handle which is very comfortable, and the spout is perfectly designed so that you'd have to be a real klutz to spill things. The cordless feature is wonderful, I tried a cheap ten dollar "Hot Pot" for a day or two and hated having to deal with the cord, plus that model doesn't have automatic shutoff despite what it says on the box---huge fire hazard! There is also a power-indicator light and water-level indicator gauge which are both handy, and I like that there is no exposed heating element inside which would be a pain to clean. Instead it's all smooth clean lines, inside and out!

Sure the outside of the kettle does get a little hot so you probably don't want to have this within reach of toddlers or anything, but if your toddlers can get up on your kitchen countertop then you have a LOT of other problems as well! I appreciated not having to deal with how plastic inevitably gets dirty-looking and sometimes leaves a funny taste in the water.

My only slight concern is that the lid needs a little bit of force to shut completely...probably some kind of insulating seal that shortens the time needed to bring water to a boil, but makes me wonder how durable that part of this kettle is going to be. Oh well, will find out in a few months or (hopefully) years, I suppose!

*UPDATED 2/14/2011: Still going strong, no complaints at all. I use it at least twice a day, most days. The lid has held up well. Highly recommend!

I bought this after I was so disappointed with a Breville one. The pot does get hot but I don't have any children or pets to worry about. The boil time is very fast and there is no coil on the inside so I do not have to worry about the build-up or rust I have experienced with other kettles. The water tastes good and clean. For this price it is very affordable! I do have to admit that the pot seems a little cheaply made, but I didn't expect much since it seems to be less than half the price of others of the same volume and style. I am very happy with this!!

Update (more than a month later): this is still working so quick and perfectly! I couldn't be happier!

Honest reviews on Aroma AWK-115S Hot H20 X-Press 1-1/2-Liter Cordless Water Kettle

After having bought and returned the stylish but overpriced Breville (which did have a bad odor as other reviewers have noted), I have owned this for seven months now and give it a very high recommendation. It gets heavy daily use in our house and functions perfectly. Yes, it is a bit noisy like all electric kettles, and it is warm/hot to the touch as it contains boiling water. Some have complained that the sight tube is under the handle and hard to read, but it's easy to get used to and it's in a protected location. I like the fact that almost all of the material which the water contacts is stainless steel (the sight tube is plastic). If this one were to wear out, I would buy another.

I bought it last month and used it over one month now. Heat quickly, looks good on the counter, easy to use and cheap.

The big problem for me is it failed to shut itself off about 10% of times, with the lid closed completely, even minutes after water boiled and the plastic handle became too hot to hold. I have to stay nearby when I using it, otherwise it could be dangerous. I contacted Aroma service people today, they told me that I can send back to repair, but I need to pay the shipping cost by myself. For a 30 dollar stuff, it is not worth it. Kind of disappointed.

New update in 1/12/2012.

I use it over two years now, almost every day. I feel good about this product now. It did fail to shut itself off around 10% of times in the first month. But it is OK after that. I guess it maybe caused by the built up water stain near the edge of cover. It made the cover close tighter to trigger the detector. I change the rate to 4 stars from 1 star. Feel surprised that this kettle last pretty long.

I'm a tea drinker and I travel frequently. I always travel with my own tea and disposable cups so I only need to seek out hot water. Most hotels (and even Starbucks at the airports) will fill your cup with hot water for free (and to my surprise, some places will actually want to charge for hot water). My challenge is wanting hot water first thing in the morning or late at night in my hotel room without wanting to get dressed and seek it out, and NOT have to rely on the in-room coffee maker (who knows how or when those things are ever cleaned and what fluids have been run through them). My first stop when I travel is to pick up a case of bottled water ($4.00 per case or $6.00 for a single bottle in the hotel room no brainer), and this kettle is sized for a 16 oz bottle of water. It is small enough to put in your carry on, and light enough not to eat up that extra valuable pound for your checked luggage. I've traveled three times so far, used it about 25 times and it is just perfect. It boils the water quick, is maintenance free, and is easy to clean. What more could you ask for? I've seen this exact looking kettle for much more around the web. On my next trip, I will add some packs of instant oatmeal for those early morning calls (and who wants to pay twenty something dollars for a $6.00 breakfast delivered to your room). I love this product and will take this everywhere with me.

I read the review of this product and thought, this is just what I want, even though the other review was so negative. Well, it showed up in delivery yesterday and it is just what I was looking for.. it's a sturdy little pot and heats the water very quickly, and there is no plastic touching the waterstainless steel body. It has a "max" line to show where the pint marker is, but there is room for another cup or so in there. I think if you boiled it with the lid off, you would be okay, but it might not turn itself off, as it does when the lid is on and you stick to the "max" line. The cord is sturdy, and it is perfect for how I am going to use it,, in my little trailer, when I want a hot beverage and don't want to light up the propane stove. It would also be good for people who want boiling water, not just hot water like you get with a microwave. In a pinch, one could boil an egg or heat up soup in this, as long as you do so without the lid, and are careful cleaning out the pot without submerging the base in water. I hope it is as sturdy as it looks. Looks quality, feels quality,, I love it!

Best Deals on Bonavita Bona Voyage 0.5-Liter Electric Travel Kettle

Hi, I was looking for a small kettle to make tea in my home. The size is perfect. Would be better if the base was detachable, but I can live with that.

I have not decided if I'm going to keep it though. I did 3 "test" runs boiling water as per the instruction booket. I made sure to not fill above the "max" line. The water boils fine, but there is a strong plastic odor and taste I'm assuming from the steam condensing on the plastic cover.

No other reviewers have mentioned this issue. So either I have a defective product, or have greater sensitivity to plastic-tasting/smelling water.

I'll try some more test-runs with the cover off as other posters said the kettle works without the cover, but the auto shut-off is disabled. I can handle watching the kettle for 3 minutes. We'll see....

Update:

Did a few test runs without the cover and decided to keep the little unit. There are no other small electric Kettle options available (that are not plastic). Boiling the water with the lid removed gives the results I need hot water with no plastic taste or smell.

Honest reviews on Bonavita Bona Voyage 0.5-Liter Electric Travel Kettle

I use this kettle every day at work and it's a key part of my travel coffee making kit. The kettle has a suggested max of 500ml, but if you dont mind a wet desk and some hot fingers you could get 800ml. The spout is pretty decent and as far as I can tell the kettle only has 2 flaws. The first is the plastic lid. Plastic is a no-no in water kettles and although this isnt as bad as a full plastic model like the Bodum, it still gives the water an awful paint smell and taste. I used it a couple times and noticed that if I stay in the recommended 500ml water level, the splash is pretty minimal and boils 500ml in about 3.30 minutes without it. Without the lid a Aeropress fits right inside. The second bummer is the cord is fixed to the unit. Wish it was detachable or at the very least some kind of internal storage. Would help for packing, but more for pouring the cord can get in the way if not careful. Especially in a hotel room where there rarely is a outlet where you want it and carrying boiling water with a cord dangling around isn't fun.

This kettle was just what I wanted in terms of size. It is not easy to find an electric half-liter kettle, so I was devastatede when the kettle stopped working this morning. That's after only 3 weeks of use, boiling water in it just once daily. Do not buy this product.

I gave the heated mattress pad to a friend who sleeps in an attic. It has very little heat and he was finding that blankets just weren't doing the job. I gave him the mattress pad for his birthday and he said he can't BELIEVE what a difference it makes. For the first time since he started sleeping there, he can sleep through the night and not wake up shivering. In addition, he had been suffering with back pain and that seems to have subsided too, starting the first morning after sleeping with the pad.

He said the warmth generated by the pad is amazing. So much so that he rarely sets it higher than three (out of a possible 10). He said he loves it and didn't even know this product was MADE. He had heard of electric blankets but never a heated PAD.

He said he loves it and would recommend it to anyone.

Like another reviewer, I was very surprised at how warm (hot) the pad gets. I've never been able to tolerate it set above a 3, but do initially (before getting into bed) set it at 5 or 6, but then instantly turn it down when using it as it's very intense heat at the higher settings. Because of how hot it gets, I would be concerned letting a small child use this, even in a supervised home-setting as I would be afraid they could turn it up accidentally. We put a mattress pad over ours (I believe the instructions frowned on that plan) as we could feel the wires, so while these sell for somewhat less than other brands, expect to feel the wires in the pad, just as you might feel them in a heating blanket. We do not feel them with the standard, mattress pad in place. Good and warm for the money and I'm buying four more for the rest of the family.

THIS IS THE GREATEST ITEM. I HAVE HAD A TWIN, FULL AND A QUEEN SIZE.

IT IS GREAT TO GET INTO A WARM BED. ALSO, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS HOW EASY IT IS TO WASH IT AND PUT IT IN THE DRYER OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

IT IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANYONE. AND I HAVE LIVED IN CALIFORNIA.

All of them works very good.

They are warm.

Used the pad for a while now. A few negatives make me not consider it for replacement. 1) The very large socket lies at the foot of the bed. I constantly kick it during sleep, sometimes hard. 2) I can feel the wiring elements. 3) I constantly get an 'F2' reset, which has been harder and harder to reset. [I.e., unplugging the power cord.] Unplugging a power cord when you're trying to get to sleep is not fun. The mattress is defective. On the positive side, the mattress pad heats quite nicely. We both like the power 'start-up' feature.
