I purchased this product to heat my 24x24 (7'6" ceiling) garage under my house. During the coldest periods where I live (Western Connecticut) the garage gets down to the low 40s.

After installing the heater and powering it up, in about 10 minutes the chill is gone from the space. After about an hour the space is very comfortable (about 62 degrees an increase of about 15 degrees from when it was turned on). By the end of the second hour the space warmed to 68 degrees. The built in thermostat turned down to about 3/4 maximum maintains that temperature.

The unit's internal fan is a little bit noisy, but since the unit is intended for a garage/workshop the fan noise is in my opinion not a big deal.

The unit is very well made and easy to install. After installing a 220 Volt 20A single circuit receptacle, I hung the unit in the center of the room from the ceiling about 4 feet from the rear wall of the garage. The bracket that came with the unit is very sturdy and will accommodate several differnt mounting options.

If you had a bigger space or an uninsulated detached garage, a larger unit with more capacity will be needed (5000 watts or more), however for a single car garage or a well insulated two car garage this unit is an excellent value.

I have a 24x24 garage with 10 feet ceilings. I did exactly as the last review did, mount it on the ceiling about four feet off the wall. Don't expect this to heat your space quickly. It works quite slowly and you can't really notice the heat, which I think is great. I turned it on at 4am in the morning and the garage temp was 40 degrees. After about 15 minutes, temp was up to 43 degrees. In about an hour it was up to 52 degrees and after 90 minutes it was up to 60 degrees. This unit is quality built and extremely quiet. It lacks the bell and whistle but is very inexpensive compared to other units. It only requires 240 volts and 20 amp breakers, all standard in the home. ( the other heaters require 30 amp breaker which requires more cost). it also come with a cord which save you another $40 over the other models. I highly recommended this unit as it compares well with the 5000 watt units with out all the extra cost. Plus if you want it to heat up a small area in the garage a little quicker then go buy a $40 floor heater and you will have the best of both worlds. Enjoy !

Installation was very simply and it does the job of warming up my garage. However......

It's only been in use for about 2 months and the built-in thermostat sticks so the heater doesn't shut off at it's preset temperature!!! It just stays on full heat!!! This could be a hazard!

Instead of going through the headache of sending it back for warranty service, I'm just going to buy a programmable thermostat rated for this unit and controlling it that way.

I would not buy this product again due to the thermostat problem. The built-in thermostat is very cheaply made aparently. Quality should be paramount due to the type of unit that it's in. I should have looked for a unit made in the USA. This unit is, like most everything else, made in CHINA.

*************************

I've installed a programmable thermostat and it's working great, since it's not being controlled by it's built-in thermostat.

Honest reviews on Dimplex DGWH4031 4000-Watt Garage/Workshop Heater

I had been shopping for an affordable garage heater for some time, and I decided that this heater fit the bill.

Although I was confused by the substitution, I was happy with the price difference and once the heater arrived, I was unable to find any differences between the Oullet model I received and this Dimplex model that I ordered, other than the color. The pictures and specs all appear to be exactly the same. Since it's in my garage and being a Buckeye fan I like anything scarlet, I was happy with the red color and decided to keep and install the heater.

Most reviews I've read on both models complain about the noise level. Well, when I removed the heater from the box it came in, I blew on the fan to see if it rattled or anything, and noticed that one of the blades clipped the electric motor while turning. I simply removed the metal cage, bent the offending blade ever so slightly so it no longer contacted the motor, and re-installed the cage. Easy, but definitely something worth checking before you install it.

This heater requires a 220v outlet (see pictures of what the plug looks like) and since I did not have one in my garage already, I had to install one which I'd never done before. I needed 50 feet of wire, a dual pole 20 amp breaker, various pieces of conduit, a receptacle and a couple of junction boxes. I got pretty fancy with the receptacle (added a weatherproof plate over the receptacle, etc) and total cost to wire up the new outlet was about $70. You can certainly do it cheaper than I did, but be advised if you need a 220v outlet, it will add to the cost of installing this heater.

I hung the heater on the wall using the included bracket, but it came with no screws to attach it to the wall. I went to the hardware store and bought two lag screws, and screwed it right into a stud. VERY sturdy installation, I could probably hang on the bracket if I wanted to.

This heater really pushes a ton of warm air. It is a bit noisy, but the fan blows really hard so I can't really see how it could be any quieter and push as much air as it does. It has a nice dial-type thermostat on the back. It doesn't have a certain temperature that you can set it to, but you can just turn it on until it's as warm as you want it in the garage, then twist the dial until it clicks off. Then, it will click back on and regulate the temperature.

I haven't tested it yet on a really cold day to see how long it takes to raise the temp, but I can tell you that with as much air as it moves, I'm confident it will work great. I'll update this review once I try it in really cold weather.

Overall, I'm very satisfied, but just be advised, if the price drops about $50 and the heater ships from Northern Tool, there's a good chance you'll receive the red Oullet model. But it's a great heater and you'll save $50, so for me it was a win-win!

Pleasantly surprised by this heater. I was in the midst of finishing my detached oversize two car garage and the heater choice was on my to-do list. I was going to require about 16000 BTU with standard insulation in my climate (Syracuse NY), which would equate to about 4800-5000W electric heater. Since I was over insulating the garage walls (R17 walls, R40 ceiling), I was confident I could get away with a slightly smaller unit the 4000W Dimplex. If needed I can supplement in a local area of the garage with a small 1500W space heater that I already had.

Installation was straight forward, since I was putting in all new electrical circuits in the garage anyway, it was easy enough to add the dedicated 240V circuit for this Dimplex unit. My unit required a NEMA 6-20 recepticle.

I started using the Dimplex unit with only some of the walls insulated, and was pleased that I could get a 10degF increase in room temperature in about 60-70 minutes even with the outside temp being 22-25 (starting temp in unfinished garage around 32degF).

I do not anticipate a large impact on my electric bill. I pay $0.05 (5 cents) for 1 kWhour. This ia 4kW heater, so for one hour of run time I pay $0.20 (20 cents). The heater will likely get used for about two hours a day ($0.40), for a total of about $12 a month.

Why only four stars? Well my only complaint about the heater is that it doesn't have a built in fan delay. When the unit kicks on, it powers the heating element and fan right away. So the fan is blowing cold air over a heating element that isn't up to temperature yet. This is a very small annoyance and a small inefficiency of the heater. The heater does have a shut down delay on the fan, it will keep the fan blowing over the hot element when the thermostat kicks the element off. This extracts and distributes the remaining residual heat from the element. Still the start up fan delay would have been nice.

My husband and I bought this about a year or so ago from another store. The heat it produces is minimal and you cannot feel the coolness of the fan at all. It quickly broke down and began to short out. The only positive quality it had was its range of oscillation.

I deducted two stars for the noise it makes. When I first got it, it seemed very quiet but as the winter wore on it got noisey and I like to sleep with white noise in the background like a fan but this we couldn't leave on while we were sleeping because it was irritating.

The remote was handy, it heats well and the shape is perfect for limited space and it really does make our downstairs bedroom comfortable.

If you don't mind it being a bit loud then you will enjoy this heater.

I was looking for a timer for my oil heater that also makes my hot water, during the summer we only use it for hot water 20-30 minutes a day so there was no need to burn oil all day. With this I can have it shut off in a short time, but also put it on the HOLD feature during the winter months for heat. Item works exactly as one would expect. It arrived timely and was packaged correctly.

Bought this cooler for our barn, which is, of course, much bigger than the 600 square foot area this cooler is supposed to cover, but it made a huge difference when we had many, many 90 degree days this summer. The cooler not only cooled but provided some much needed moisture in a very dry environment (Colorado) and with a few additional fans to circulate the cool moist air from this Luma Evaporative Cooler, it was a very satisfying investment!

Thank you Amazon.com

This is my first swamp cooler. A neighbor lent me an older Bonair which did not cool as much as this unit (panel to small). I chose this model because of its capacity to cool up to 650 sq. feet. A swamp cooler is only as effective as the size of the panels and yet sellers don't mention it which is odd. I've been using it for 10 days:

Pros: large water tank, the back panel is 19x16" and the 2 side panels are 8x23", it cools enough to make it pleasant, there is no smell; the noise level is acceptable to me.

Cons: the wheels don't move well, water/ice inlet is too small it can only hold about 8 ice cubes, too expensive for what it is; there is no remote control or pump shut off if the water gets too low. It comes with one small hose adapter that attaches to the back.

I live in the Mojave and it's around 100F now and that also means that our city water is lukewarm. I bought a 2 gallon watering can and add ice and water before I fill up the tank and I add extra ice to the water inlet. The more ice the colder the air. Not for the lazy but better for the environment and the wallet. I gave it 4 stars because it does cool and because of the large holding tank and panels.

we have a home bakery business and live in northern ca. a/c doesn't work as there is no humiditiy to speak of in the summer. when we bake and it's 90+ degrees outside, it's the only way to keep us and the house cool

Honest reviews on Luma Comfort EC220W High Power 1650 CFM Evaporative Cooler with 650

First, I want to start by saying how impressed I am with Amazon! I ordered this product 7/4/13 around 10 o'clock at night. I received it today at about 1 o'clock pm! It wasn't a full 48 hours! AWESOME AMAZON! I'm a believer!

Now, about the product. I had recently purchased a Kuul Aire evaporative cooler. I received that unit when temperatures were about 80 degrees. Once the Bakersfield, CA 110 degree weather kicked in, that device didn't stand a chance. It only blew hot air and made no difference in my home. I sent it back needless to say. I do not have AC in my home, but an evaporative cooler that sits on top of my house which doesn't work too well alone. So I decided to get another cooler to help the main cooler.

After going to Home Depot and Lowes and not finding evaporative coolers within my 450 dollar price range that gave over 600 square feet of air and coolness coverage. I came back to Amazon once again.

Luma Comfort is just that (Comfort) for severely dry climates and hot temperatures. It has three speed settings, a swing setting and an option to use it as a fan. The only inconvenient feature is the small water input slot. Also, it's extremely large so make sure that you have room for it's size if you're going to be using it in the home. However, it does have a water hose connector just in case you want to have a constant flow of water. Typically, this item is used outside but it's so hot in my house that I needed something effective and powerful. The Luma is not as quiet as I would like for it to be but I don't mind sacrificing the volume of my television for coolness!

Last summer (in CO) in the place I rented there was no ac and no basement to escape the blistering heat. It got so hot that the thermostat was reading 90+ inside! I was really afraid for my dogs. This year I bought the Luma Comfort 1650 before the hot temps started and when it arrived I was a little shocked at how big it is. My next thought was: how was I going to get it in the house (I'm not a big person). It was a bit of a struggle, but I finally got it in and once I got it set up and filled with water (this was all VERY easy to do) and turned it on.

I was a bit skeptical (ok, ALOT skeptical) as to whether this thing was really going to keep the house cool, but it really does! going through these heat waves when it's 95-100 outside, it can keep it around 77 inside. Not chilly, very liveable. If you sit right in front of the thing you will get cold, though. You do have to monitor the water level and not allow it to get to the min point. I usually re-fill around the halfway point, but I can be gone for 6 hours and come home and the house is nice and cool, the dogs are comfortable and the water level is just slightly below the mid point.

Another nice side effect is that it adds moisture to the house. One thing to note is that it will keep my DOWNstairs cool, but since cool air doesn't rise, it does nothing for the UPstairs. I ordered a smaller unit to have in the bedroom. All in all, I think this is a great product (wish it were made in America instead of China).

As like everyone else i was happy to have heat from this unit when first purchesed. Now only a year later all fuel line hoses have cracked which i have replaced with fuel lines that are rated for fuel not just cheap vacuum line cannot keep unit operational i am always pulling the main jet and blowing compressed air through which is a job to remove , flushed fuel tank, tried different fuels. As far as im concerned this is just more Chinese junk.Do not spend your hard earned money on this. I know people that have had their forced air heaters for more than a decade and have had no problems. I dont like to be negative about anything but when a company is not going to build a decent product people should know.

I have 4 of these heaters which I have been using to keep buildings above freezing for about 4 years. While they have done the job, they have been very problematic. I have had several catch on fire. They seem to be very maintenance intensive. Ive been replacing filters and nozzles on them to try and keep them running. I probably need to replace the air pumps as well but thats more expensive. The hoses seem to be ok so far. Ive been using off road diesel fuel in them. Like the other person said you are basically happy just to have heat but these are not made like old forced air heaters Ive dealt with in the past. They put out alot of heat and keep the buildings from freezing so they do the job, you just have to keep up on the maintenance on them.

Works very well, if using in a shop move it to an area that will circulate the warm air back through it so thermostat will cycle it on and off. I was heating through a doorway and was getting cooked out of shop, once moved it worked great.

Sunbeam heated mattress pad, TWIN size.

I gave the heated mattress pad to a friend who sleeps in an attic. It has very little heat and he was finding that blankets just weren't doing the job. I gave him the mattress pad for his birthday and he said he can't BELIEVE what a difference it makes. For the first time since he started sleeping there, he can sleep through the night and not wake up shivering. In addition, he had been suffering with back pain and that seems to have subsided too, starting the first morning after sleeping with the pad.

He said the warmth generated by the pad is amazing. So much so that he rarely sets it higher than three (out of a possible 10). He said he loves it and didn't even know this product was MADE. He had heard of electric blankets but never a heated PAD.

He said he loves it and would recommend it to anyone.

Like another reviewer, I was very surprised at how warm (hot) the pad gets. I've never been able to tolerate it set above a 3, but do initially (before getting into bed) set it at 5 or 6, but then instantly turn it down when using it as it's very intense heat at the higher settings. Because of how hot it gets, I would be concerned letting a small child use this, even in a supervised home-setting as I would be afraid they could turn it up accidentally. We put a mattress pad over ours (I believe the instructions frowned on that plan) as we could feel the wires, so while these sell for somewhat less than other brands, expect to feel the wires in the pad, just as you might feel them in a heating blanket. We do not feel them with the standard, mattress pad in place. Good and warm for the money and I'm buying four more for the rest of the family.

THIS IS THE GREATEST ITEM. I HAVE HAD A TWIN, FULL AND A QUEEN SIZE.

IT IS GREAT TO GET INTO A WARM BED. ALSO, THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS HOW EASY IT IS TO WASH IT AND PUT IT IN THE DRYER OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

IT IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANYONE. AND I HAVE LIVED IN CALIFORNIA.

I bought two twin size heated pads and one queen size pad.

All of them works very good.

They are warm.

Used the pad for a while now. A few negatives make me not consider it for replacement. 1) The very large socket lies at the foot of the bed. I constantly kick it during sleep, sometimes hard. 2) I can feel the wiring elements. 3) I constantly get an 'F2' reset, which has been harder and harder to reset. [I.e., unplugging the power cord.] Unplugging a power cord when you're trying to get to sleep is not fun. The mattress is defective. On the positive side, the mattress pad heats quite nicely. We both like the power 'start-up' feature.
