Because fuel oils have become MORE dirty recently I use two filters in series. First one is the old felt filter element for the General 1A-25A and the 2nd one is this Micro-flow filter, also in a General 1A-25A housing.

The felt acts as a "roughing" filter and takes out the big junk. What "small" stuff gets thru is caught by the Micro-Flow. Seems like over-kill, but this prevents waking up at 5AM to a cold house because the burner nozzle has clogged and no oil can be burned to heat the house. Have done this for a few years now without any clogging shut downs. Oil here is so dirty that I now change filters twice a year as insurance. I am a retired Mechanical Engineer. At 79 years old I prefer to sleep thru the night in a comfortable home. I replace the burner fuel nozzle once a year to avoid the 5AM wake up. It's also nice to be able to leave the house for a few days in Winter & not be concerned about the possibility of frozen pipes everywhere!!

Worked well. Fit my oil tank filter as advertised. Will use again instead of paying the technitian to change the filter for $100.

I was pleased to see that this filter is the same filter that came with the complete unit. we used the previous one for two years without a problem and made sure we got the same one this time. I came promptly, well packaged, well priced, and after we installed the new one, we were glad we had ordered two. This is a winner.

Stand fan heater much more powerful then compact fan heater. hot hot hot.. Has to be positioned a distant away from people. Thermostat can be set to desired temp and shuts off after a few minutes reaching the setting.

Cons:

Took a while to figure out how to assemble the base/pedestal part. But once that's done evrything's fine.

I find that in general Lasko products are reliable.

I did not like this product. I was very excited when I received. Good price, good size, but I turned on and it stoped by itself. I tried several times. Finally, I gave up and returned it and got my money back.

This is a nice little heater. Has the same size

ceramic core as bigger units, but costs less because

theres no remote, or fancy lcd display. But it puts

out just as much heat as its big brothers.

The exterior is pretty cheap, so I can't give it

anymore stars. I believe this heater qualify's for CA prop 65

warning. But didn't see it! Made in China....

Overview: This is a great small size heater. It has two main setting "low" and "high". The low setting is nearly silent, so you can easily do certain task such as talking or listening to music without some background interference. It has 6 temperatures settings (in Fahrenheit): 65˚, 70˚, 75˚, 80˚, 85˚, and "Max". During the winter time, my room is about 55˚ Fahrenheit, using the max setting it gets my 10x12 feet room heated to 80˚ in 15~20 minutes. It has an oscillating feature that rotates about a 60˚ angle.

Pros: Quiet and many settings to keep your room at a comfortable temperature.

Cons: NO SAFETY FEATURE! I think this is the reason I took off a star. There is no safety function for this heater. If you accidentally knock it over, it'll stay on. I've used other heaters and they have a safety button on the bottom of the heater, if the heater is move even the slightest, it'll turn off as a safety precaution. Now why does this matter? If you have pets this can be dangerous; if your pet knocks the heater over and you're not around to see it, the heater will stay on and potentially danger items nearby or even catch things on fire due to the heat it is emitting. This can be a dangerous concern if you plan on leaving this heater on overnight!

Other concerns: There was a certain smell to the heater when I first used it. But after a few hours of use, there was no longer a smell. It consume 1500watts, it is on power hungry machine. I set the machine on "high" and on Max. When it gets to the temperature I'm comfortable with, I turn it on "low", so it shouldn't consume that much electricity.

Very warm heat. Love it! We don't have heat in our upstairs just yet so we needed something to get us by this winter until my husband puts in the ductwork. We have 3 bedrooms and 1 bath and it keeps it warm if we want it to. I love how you can control the heat it has a setting for 65,70,75 and MAX heat. It has a high and low speed but if you put it on low, you can't set the temp, it just runs on low the whole time. If you have it on high, it will shut off when it reaches the desired temp. It also has a oscillating setting which is nice I use it at night so it blows in all the bedrooms evenly. Happy with my purchase!

Honest reviews on Lasko 5309 Electronic Oscillating Tower Heater

Good heater, but if you are using this on a high setting which is 1500 watts, make sure the outlet you are using does not have anything else using the same outlet or the same line from other outlets or your will trip the breaker box. It you are using this as I am on a line not being shared, it is great. Uses 13.6 amps on high.

The first review I gave for the Homebasix Milkhouse heater was a good review. However, now that I have owned two of them for awhile, I have had to revise my opinion downward. The first heater arrived in great condition and worked great for awhile but after a few months, the thermostat began to stick, the heater would stay on and not turn off until I manually turned the knob. The second heater arrived somewhat beat up because the heater box itself was not packed into another box. This second heater has never been reliable because the thermostat would completely fail and and the heater would not come on at all. The heaters were so inexpensive that I just dumped both of them. When they work, they put out good heat but when they don't work, they either overheat or don't heat at all. I hope no one bought this heater based on my former review. So, I'm still looking for a reliable milkhouse heater like the old ones they made 20 years ago.

There were several heaters of differing price ranges that I looked at but I chose this for the price and the basic features and am very happy with it. It is a simple heater with simple safety features, and it is solidly constructed and very quiet when operating. It is much quieter than other milkhouse heaters I have seen and it also has a fan setting that just blows cool air, which is perfect for my office because sometimes I just need some air circulating and sometimes I need to warm up the office. The tipover safety feature works well (I only tested it to see if it works) but I guess it also turns off when it gets too hot. I like it and it does everything I need.

I got a Mr. Heater Single unit about 8 years ago as a backup source of heat after hurricane Hugo knocked out our power for three weeks. It is still working fine and has come in real handy during infrequent ice storms and winter power failures.

My dad liked my single a lot so he bought a Mr. Heater Double to heat a big 3 car garage sized shop. He liked it but now thinks that a single would have worked fine as the double gets that big area heated in no time and keeps it really toasty.

My single unit works far better than gas logs to heat up a room. It does make a hissing sound that is not too loud but barely audible. A single will knock the chill off a large room in no time. A tank of propane will last about 30 to 36 continuous hours if you keep it set on low. I think this is a great alternative to other auxilary heat sources like Kerosuns or a fireplace. With an asthmatic child in our family, a kerosene heater is out of the question for us. This burns clean, creates no odor, smoke or soot. There's no maintenance, no wicks or anything like that. You can store it indefinitely untouched and then pull it out and fire it up with no preparation. I will buy another one if mine ever wears out.

I have recommended Mr. Heater to lots of my friends and family and have no reservation about recommending one to you. If you can't decide whether you need a single, double or triple I suggest trying the single first. Then if you aren't happy step up to the double or triple. It is really amazing how much heat a Mr. Heater Single generates!

It is rare to find a really good product that is durable and an excellent value. Mr. Heater is one of those rare finds. They are the Zippo lighter of auxillary space heaters in my opinion.

I live in the South, and in November each year I like to build a temporary enclosure for my deck. Last year I tried to rely on a firepit and electric heater for warmth--big mistake. This year I have the Mr. Heater--big bonus.

I've owned and operated the Mr. Heater for a few days now, and I can tell you that it really puts out the heat. If you're used to plug-in heaters you buy at Wal-Mart, you'll be blown away by the heat this thing puts out. 8,000 BTU's is incredible (that's the lowest setting). There just isn't anything comparable in its class.

I've never used propane before, so I was hesitant (there's just something about all that compressed lethel gas that gives me pause). But, it has been easy.

1. Buy the Mr. Heater and READ the manuel.

2. Go to Home Depot, Lowes, etc. and purchase a 20lb. propane tank. At the time of this writing, it costs about $48 for a filled tank (since you're a first-time buyer).

3. There's a threaded pipe part of the Mr. Heater that you press into the companion pipe on the propane tank; twist the nut on the Mr. Heater into the propane tank. Use a wrench to tighten.

4. On the propane tank is a faucet-like handle that you turn to open the gas flow.

5. Turn the Mr. Heater nob to the Medium dot.

6. Press in the Ignition.

** I recommend checking for leaks by using some soapy water. Please do this--only takes a minute. **

7. Use a match or candle lighter placed with a flame where it says.

8. It will immediately ignite; hold in the ignition for up to 30 seconds and release.

Voila. You've got instant heat--and it's instant! To turn off, just turn the Mr. Heater nob back to Off. Also, very important, it's a good idea to "close" the gas flow from the propane tank, so just turn that faucet to the closed position.

Refills are currently about $17. Just take the tank in, and at Home Depot, the used propane tank is swapped out for one that's already filled.

It's that easy! As one reviewer noted, it's not completely silent. There is a low hiss (from the propane release), but it hasn't bothered me at all. An excellent heater.

I bought this heater to take the chill off the cool desert evenings. I use it on my patio which is not enclosed and it puts out enough heat to warm 4 people sitting around the patio table. Often the person sitting closest to the heater has to move away as they get too warm. I used this unit all winter with no problems.

Honest reviews on Mr. Heater MH15T Single Tank-Top Propane Heater

We live right on a coastal cliff in Northern California, so cool sea breezes are a way of life. It never gets over about 72 and almost never below about 50 during the day/early evening.

We have a small deck and have looked longingly at the big overhead gas heaters, but rust is such a problem here and the space so small that it wasn't really an option.

We got this heater almost as an experiment to see if a small horizontal unit would let us sit out in the evening, where after sunset it's usually around 55, too cool to sit comfortably.

And it works! The great thing for us is it's small enough to stuff in a wardrobe until needed.

It screws onto a propane bottle quickly (in fact once I've finished barbecuing I just unhook the bottle, drag it over to where we sit and attach the heater to the top.. it all takes about 2 minutes).

The heat is good, but not what you would call particularly radiant, which is to say most of the heat goes straight up, BUT the refector does a good enough job that if we (two of us) sit reasonably close together we for sure get a nice steady warming effect with it on max.

To sum up, it does what it says and is a good option for those who want to warm an area of their porch, but keep in mind it will be a small area unless you have a fairly enclosed space which will stop the heat escaping.

I think a larger refector would do a better job for us though, and if given the chance over I would probably spend a little more to get the same make but with the double reflector.

However this is a great product and I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

The heater works as advertised. I have almost finished my second 20lb propane tank using this heater with no issues. I am located at about 5400 feet above sea level for those with concerns about using it at altitude. I have noticed that on the high setting (it also has low and medium) it tends to produce a slight propane odor. This is most likely due to the lower quantity of oxygen at our altitude, and therefore does not produce a complete burn. However, the medium heat setting works great and gets my 2 car garage comfortably warm in about 30 minutes.

Got this item yesterday and plugged it in. Was very impressed at first. The temperature indicator was showing rapid temperature decrease finally down to 45 degrees. This was inside a 78 degree home. Ok, I then put a thermometer inside the unit and closed it up for an hour. The external display showed 41 but the thermometer I placed inside was showing 52. This is all done inside a 78 degree home. I'm more inclined to believe my thermometer then the display. I placed 3 chilled 16oz water bottles inside and left them overnight. Took them out in the morning and they where cool, but not cold. The 32 degree claim on the box is pure puffery in my opinion. The 40-45 degree drop from ambient temperature is also was not confirmed in my test. I'm returning this unit. It isn't going to 'cool' anything to near the advertised claims.

I know I was not the only one to be misled by the product discription, and when I contacted the seller about the 'missing wall plug' all I got was the runaround. Be aware this item only comes with the auto-plug feature, the optional wall plug is only if you buy it seperately, that is, if you can find it.

The fridge comes with a temperature display that has never worked, the cup holder is a cheap, roughly hewn soda-can holder that flips open akwardly from the top of the front panel.

I have also found the fridge to be miserably under-powered. ALL it will do is lower the ambient temperature of the room slightly, and if you place items in the fridge that aren't pre-chilled, you're wasting your time if the mini-fridge isn't kept in a briskly-chilled room or car.

If ever I was to regret a purchase, this is definitely it.

To note, I have not tried using the warming feature.

I do not know where to begin.

I bought this to replace a similar older Wagan I got from Costco 5 yrs ago. That one used to hold 6 small water bottles standing up (8.25" height each). This one is a piece of junk. The same water bottles do not fit anymore. It slopes down towards the front, so it is much shorter.

I have no idea who could have designed this, they probably never seen a plastic water bottle before.

I guess the product photo showing the cooler open with the content exposed is the way it was designed for.

The whole thing is plastic. The top has a useless cushion.

The latch is so cheaply made, it pop up and leaves the fridge open.

I have to keep scotch tape on it.

The front face does not seem to be mounted securely.

Does not come with AC adapter, so I bought a Black & Decker adapter for $17 at Walmart, and it looks like it can easily outlast the cooler.

It is very under powered, the manual says reaches 34 deg, yes if you place the cooler in you fridge.

Stay away from this, it is a disappointment.

Honest reviews on Wagan 2260 Thermo-Electric Fridge/Warmer - 6L Capacity

Product works OK if you plug in the empty cooler the night before you want to use it. Then put in the COLD beverages, cold fruit, etc immediately before you are ready to go. In that case, the cooler will keep your food cold. To do this, buy the 110/12V adapter, so you can plug the cooler in at home the night before. Then when you get to the hotel or whatever the next night, plug the cooler into the wall and let it run all night. If you do these things, the cooler will meet your expectations. If you are not prepared to do this, better use the old fashion ice cooler.

This fridge is pretty small. Good for a couple bottles of water and maybe a snack. I spend a lot of time driving for my job which is why I purchased it. You have to be driving for a while before it gets adequately cold. If you're going to be driving only intermittently throughout the day, the fridge won't stay cold very long while the car is off. The inside of the fridge is not really insulated to maintain the coldness.

I find the blower to put good circulation into the room. It keeps going even after the flame is out up to cold air being blown out. Eventually it turns off. The fireplace starts up again most of the time and it warms up. Also it seems to be a bit on the loud side.

I purchased this unit to go in a new ProCom Q-series LP heater that I had previously bought. The blower is designed to fit this style heater and provide air circulation to enhance the heating capabilities of the heater. Unit arrived on time and I installed it in about 2-1/2 hours. I believe I could have installed it quicker (by at least 1 hour) if the instructions had been clearer. Diagrams did not show enough of the view to permit a quick understanding of the assembly. I had to do a lot of "reading between the lines". However, it all fit nicely and worked as designed once I got it installed. Fan operates well and thermostat functions correctly. Overall, I'm satisfied with the unit.

I also had to drill out all the holes that the screws go into because the screws were too big for the holes. So be aware of that.

SPT Portable Air Conditioner with Heater, 12,000 BTUs, WA-1220H Review

SPT Portable Air Conditioner with Heater, 12,000 BTUs, WA-1220H
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

I noticed that all portable air conditioner reviews give either 4 or 5 stars or 1 or two stars. The difference seemed to be that the one or two star people did something major that caused the problem, and you could tell what it was, just by reading the complaint. (return a unit that is leaking when you open the carton, stand it up and wait two hours before trytin to turn it on, so that the freon is not flodding the pump (it will break), etc.

I am a chemical engineer, and have worked with both the theory and practical aspects of AC.so let me give you a brief rundown of how to ick te best unit for you, and how to get the best performsnce afterward:

1. Picking a unit: (use the sortable list on to compare different models)

a. There are two main types: 3-in-1 and 4-in-1.

3-in-1 modes are Fan, AC and Dehumidifier. The dehumidifier mode uses the AC to cool the air until the water comes out, then puts the hot ir it sends outside when working as an AC unit back into the room instead of sending it outside.

4-in-1 adds a heater. Cheap designs use an electric heater coil placed in front of the fan. (Ok if you only want a little heat, now and then, or if you want heat when it is colder than 41 degrees outside. (buy this in Maine.)

More expensive 4-in-1 units do not use an electric heater, but act like a "heat pump"that is, they work like good home units popular south of the mason dixon line (wiki it, kids). More about this when we get to my FAQs on mode 4.

Mode 1 FAQ

While buying an AC just for the fan is not smart, don't underestmate the fan only control. Moving air over you can add 5 to 6 degrees to the temprature you feel is comfortable. If it is only 76 or 77 degrees out, try just sing the fan, and pointing it at you. It will usually o the job unless the humidity is extremely high.

Mode 2 FAQ:

AC size is measure in BTU but typically you need 6000 BTU for a room that is 200 sq ft (eg, it is 20x10 or 14x15).

This is if the room is well insulated, the sunlight does not stream in, and the AC is left on so you don't need a quick cool-down. people by an 8000BTU unit and expect it to cool the hot, hunid 350 sq fot bedroom in 1/2 hour. The web site I recommended has tips on correct sizing. One tip I will add is that the exhaust hose is 15 inches fully collapsed. The more you extend it nd make it go around bends, the poorer it will work. Lots of sharp bends and fully extending the hose will "derate" the effective size (and efficnecy) by possibly as much as 20%. When in doubt, buy biggerbut too big a unit will make a gale when the fan is on, and will cycle on and off way to often.

Mode 4. (yeah, its out of order, but this is for a good reaon).

Heat pumps reverse some valves in the AC unit, and suddenly, the pipe going outside gives off cold air, and the indoor part puts out hot air, This is roughly twice as energy efficient as the cheaper heating coil, but stops working around 40 degrees of outdoor temperature.

Mode 3 FAQ: Dehumidification only, and, oh yeah, an AC does dehumidification while it cools-

Actually , the AC dehumidifies too. If the basement is too damp, you can use a portable unit to warm it up a little and dry it out a lot. Then, if it gets too warm, switch to AC and cool it and dry it. For htat matter, just sit a windo unit on a chair, and let it blow back into the room instead of out a window, and use it as a dehumidifier.

In coastal regions, and near rivers and lakes, the air is very humid. Dehumidifiers must cool the air as much as an AC to get rid of the water, (and use as much energy as an AC does), but they dump the hot air back into the room instead of pushing it outside. unless you have a cool damp basement problem, the Dehumidifier only mode is not the answer.

But what happens to the water from the dehumidifier action? An AC may use more energy removing the water than cooling the air. (this is why it tale so long to cool a hot, humid room the first time, but if it is keep closed, so that the next day it is only hot, it will not take nearly as long to cool it down again.) A room sized machine will typically remove 10 gallons (40 pints) or more a day. The water runs to the bottom of the unit. Window units drain the water that collects in the bottom of the unit out the window. A portable AC has to collect it. Typical collection resevoirs hold less than 4 pints, at which time a float switch stops the cooling and leaves only the fan (so you think it doesn't cool after just a few hours use if you just plug it in and let it run.) You can attach a hose and drain continuously (use a hose clamp if you do), or else empty the tiny resivoir each time the AC stops cooling. The trouble with using a hose is that the hose is not very high off the floor, and the resevoir will simply overflow if you don't notice it is full.

Here is my solution. Elevate the machine a few inches by standing it on a set of bed leg height adjusters (>$10 at a hardware store), then, attach the hose, and fashion a hook to hang the end of the free end of the hose up on the machine. I straightened a large paper clip and tied it around the hose near the free end, and bent the end of the paper clip so that it hooked into a convenient spot high enough up on the machine to know the hose would not overflow before the float inside the machine shut off the AC. Since the hose is transparent, I can see how full the resevior is, and, without shutting off the AC, unhook the hose and drain it into a 1 gal plastic jug that sits on the floor and has a hole in the side near the top. Hang the hose back up on its hook, and use the water on your plants or in your iron. (it is actually rain water that you made yourself).

The reason, by the way, they can remove 40 or more pints a day, and only have a resevoir 1/10th the size, is that they blow most of the water they collect onto the condensor coils (the ones that put hot air back outside). This water helps cool the coils and makes the AC run more efficientlyand you don't have to dump it. (They do this to help get back the energy required to remove it from the air that is going into your room.)

About 90% of the water collected will be used this way. This means that if you have no humidity, your energy bill will be about the same, since you don't take it out, and don't put it back. However, if you do live in low humidity, maybe you should be buying a much cheaper evaporative cooler, that cools you by spraying water into the air.

If I can go back to mode 4 (heater, again, It also means that the manufacturer of units with a heat pump mean it when they say that when you use a unit to heat with, set up a continuous drain. Spraying the water on the normally hot (now cold) side will form ice, and freeze up the unit, causing it to fail to operate, and possible damage to the compressor.

For the advanced student, who wants to continuously drain the unit in the summer, Just remember that you are eliminating one of the big energy reducing featurethe re-use of the water to spray cool the hot condensor coils. My hose trick can be modified by putting a tee connector in the hose above the drain outlet of the unit, but below the height that causes the compressor to shut offconnect an overflow hose, and any water that is needed for the cooling of the coils will be available, but the exces will be available to safely drain away. hopefully, you are now hagh enough to draininto a 5 gallon plastic gas can, or something, but you have to know what you will do with all that water. They sell plug in drain pumps that can be used to keep your overflow can emptied out, and that can pump the water through a small plastic tube wherever you want it.

Have a whole house AC and don't need more? read this:

My house is in Floridatypical daytime temp of 94, with 65% or more humidity, and while night time temps go down to 70 by about 3 AM, the humidity goes up. No one lived in Florida by choice until the invention of AC. My reason for buying the portable units was to create a "zone" in my bedroom at night, (set the Hose AC at 80), and also to have small unit that I could put in my TV room in the cold months to use between 7 and 11 in the evening when we like to watch tV (let the whole house cool, and sleep under blankets in the now cool bedroom when we go to bed.)

For this reason, I got a 4-in-1, and because I live below the mason dixon line, I got a heat pump version.

I hope this review prevents you from experiencing any of the reasons why so many people had bad experiences with the same products others found to work well.

I live in Pittsburgh and we do get some heat here in the summer. Small apartment in a 60 year solidly built building. I have been running this machine during the day for over 2 weeks now and I love it. I am not a big fan of really cold air-conditioning and so far this unit does not make my place a freezer, but makes it extremely comfortable considering the shape of my apartment, i am cooling about 630 sq ft with bedroom and bathroom doors closed. So it is a little over its recommended cooling area, but for my needs, it is more than great.

Now, one thing about draining the water out of the unit.....I haven't. Was delivered on July 6th and as I said above, it has been on all day since then. I hardly run it at night as once my place is in my comfort zone, it stays that way all night. I have not had to empty any water and it has been humid here. I am almost frightened to say anything about that in front of it so I don't jinx myself.

I did buy the Square Deal warranty for this for three years so that if it does break down, I am covered. Anyone who does not shell out the money for that at the reduced rate you get from Amazon is being quite foolish with their money. Way cheaper that what you would get at Best Buy or Sears by more than 50%.

In the winter, I plan on rolling it into my bedroom to heat that area. We still have radiator steam heat here and during temperature transitional days, temp goes up then down real fast, the heat does not catch up for about 24 hours. This will make that room much cozier.

I actually purchased this heater for my mom.....it was smaller than she expected but she says it heats her home just fine..I was very pleased with the price and with the quality of the product...so was my mom...I recommend this product for a small space that needs heating...it is a wall mount heater...I dont remember if it came with feet to stand it on the floor, I think it did not, I will order again from this supplier in the future.

Great little heater.

Only wish it had a thermostat like the larger ones.

On the little trailer I am using it for heat, the low setting

is warmer than I need unless the weather is really cold.

I can get by if I turn the control down below the low setting,

but you have to be careful to check that the flame is

burning blue, not yellow or orange.

Great little heater and as such --should come in a variety of colors. Blue flame is as pictured and makes warmth a new meaning..

Dimensions to mount from flamable sources as specified in received paperwork would be useful in the add writeup, especially online..

The wall mount and hookup was easy needing only a screwdriver, hammer, and small crescent wrench. The dual fuel setting was easy to get to and would turn using a downward push and finger turn to either NG or LP setting...

Best price I found anywhere and as long as you know it does not have a thermostat it is a steal. Quiet and efficient and never shut down from oxygen problems. Ran it 24 hours a day for over 2 months this winter and all ok.

Extremely quiet and heats objects/people well by radiant heat. Used in a large, open great room where heating the room's air is impractical. Replaced a small fan/ceramic heater which we would huddle around. This heater keeps us warm while sitting on couches a few feet away. Very happy with this purchase.

I love this heater! It takes about 20s to heat up, but it's a great heater for a small room. I turn it on at 1200W when I get home and in about 20 minutes, my room is noticeably warmer than the rest of the house. Our house is huge so a central heater would be inefficient, so we use space heaters. Ceramic heaters that blow out air warm up rooms the fastest, but use 1800W vs. 1200W or 800W from this heater. It does oscillate and allows you to tilt the heater as well as change the direction of the heat manually, without having to turn oscillation on. Have not tried the remote yet as I keep it within an arm's length away.

I've hung a shirt over this heater before & took a bit too long in getting it off, so the alarm light came on because it was overheating. I was nearby and watching it, but it seems if you did something stupid like went away while you left your shirt on the heater, then it might burn out or cause a fire (or it might turn itself off). When you lift it up, the safety function comes on and it does shut itself off.

I bought a Soleus 14" as well (400W & 800W) and to compare with the soleus which is a bulb, I think the Soleus is more instant & has the 400W option, for those who want to keep the heater close by and not looking to warm the whole room. The Soleus is a lot brighter because it uses a bulb, whereas this one uses coils. I feel like the Soleus is a bit warmer at 800W than this one at 800W, but the Optimus will probably be better at warming up a room at the same 800W. The soleus, when you lift it, will momentarily turn itself off, but will come on again by itself (whereas this one will stay off & you need to turn it on again).

This one does make a bit of noise while it's starting up, but becomes quiet after. I'd highly recommend both the Soleus & the Optimus. Just have to decide whether you want 400W & 800W (Soleus) or 800W & 1200W (Optimus). I've been keeping the optimus in the bedroom to warm up the bedroom and the Soleus in the bathroom to warm myself instantly & for only a short while.

Instead of buying the Presto heater from Costco AGAIN, I bought this one because of the new features:

* Very simple 800 or 1200 watt settings (Costco's Presto is 1500 watts, manually adjustable with the knob)

* Timer (3 settings~ save energy!)

* Remote (comes with a snap-in bracket that can be mounted on the arm of the heater) works well IF you point it right at the sensor (located at the base of the heater). I thought it didn't work in the beginning and almost wanted to return it. Finally I figured it out. IT WORKS!

* Up-down manual tilting

* Tip-over (or if you want to move the unit) Auto shutoff (Presto will make a beeping sound if you move it. This one simply shut it off.)

Overall, the quality is good with the additional features that WORKS. I just don't wanna spend the same money buying the same old stuff from Costco. This one is a keeper. The only possible concern is the warranty. I cannot found the company's contact phone number (they only provide an AOL email). :P

If you are looking for up to 1200 watts (not the highest power), additional features such as timer, remote and up/down tilt, this is a good buy! :D

Honest reviews on Optimus H-4438 14-Inch Energy-Saving Oscillating Dish Heater

I purchased this item maybe two months ago. I never used it much until I went to bed. When I turned it on it would be on no longer than 10 to 15min. tops before I turned it off to go to bed. Last week I turned it on as usual and it made strange noises and the second level of heating did not come on. No matter how many times I tried to heat it, it would turn itself off. I wish I could get my money back even though I have 4 other dish heaters in my home that work well for the last several years. But this one from another company pooped out. I didn't get my monies worth.

I'm disappointed.

Just completed my first pot of brown rice at 7,300 ft. It is so much better than my usual pressure-cooked brown rice, it is amazing. And I didn't have to stand around adjusting the flame on my stove to keep the pressure up, but not too far up. I simply put in the brown rice to the levels recommended. I closed it and set it on the brown rice setting. Perfect the first time.

Yes, it is really expensive, but brown rice doesn't really get done at my altitude unless you use a pressure cooker. The controls on a pressure cooker are not very fine. This machine immediately brings the rice to the best temperature for cooking whatever kind of rice one chooses and raises the pressure, if necessary, to get the water to that temperature.

I looked at the non-pressurized Zojirushi rice cookers and realized that they would not work for me, so my sweet husband sprang for the NP-HTC18 and gave it to me for a gift. I am very lucky. Great husband, great rice-cooker. He figures he will be paid off in more frequent brown rice from now on and he is right.

I am quite aware as a non-Asian that my review of a rice cooker which is basically no more than a fancy, perhaps overpriced water boiler, might not be taken too seriously. However, I have been cooking Asian/Chinese cuisine for almost 35 years and for some reason have had an identity, if not a passion for the art of properly cooking rice. During this time I have owned 6 electric rice cookers. I began with a National basic rice cooker. You placed the rinsed rice into the aluminum cooking pot, clicked the switch to on and off it went. When the rice had boiled all the liquid away the temp spiked and my rice cooker shut off. The following rice cooker was again a National brand, but this was a much more sophisticated model that touted "Fuzzy Logic". I realize that it is a bit of a stretch to believe a microprocessor could be needed to merely "boil and cook" rice? However, given the assortment of rice dishes and not just cooking plain rice a convenience like this seemed to be a natural progression in the countries where rice was an everyday staple.

My next rung up the automatic rice cooker ladder was a more sophisticated Zojirushi rice cooker with more settings and again "fuzzy logic". Not long after this I was in a Korean grocery store and found a Panasonic brand "pressure" rice cooker that touted that it could not only cook outstanding rice of any variety, but an assortment of mixed grains, stews, and one meal dishes. I bought this and immediately feel in love with all of its features. Not only did it perform flawlessly cooking rice, it could also cook almost anything else, rice, grains, or otherwise and this is with what ever you chose to add.

I eventually ordered another pressure Panasonic rice cooker since they had stopped making them, from Ebay in order to have a back-up and/or parts. Some time after I received this second Panasonic pressure rice cooker I happened to have found a link to Zojirushi. I have always been very keen on this Japanese brand. To make a point, I was a very snobbish bread baker; sneering at anyone that would consider making bread in a bread machine. After receiving my Zojirushi BBCCX-20 bread machine I had to eat my words.

Anyway, I decided to try the NP-HTC18 Induction Heating 10-cup Pressure Rice Cooker. I have been cooking on induction cooking hobs for years and decided to give this a try, in spite of the cost. All I can tell you is that if you love rice and all the other rice/grain dishes that I do, you should invest in this awesome kitchen device. I have not had it long, but have cooked several batches of various white rices, barley, mixed grains and rice, and mixed rices. All of these have been either plain or with oils, mushrooms, spices, herbs, etc. I am not sure what is on the horizon here, but for me this is the ultimate anything cooker. I hope that more and more people buy this and experiment with all of it's amazing possibilities.

First off I know this rice cooker is super expensive. Why the heck does a rice cooker cost this much? But this isn't even the most expensive, there's a rice cooker that's $2000 in Japan, that's the Bently or Rolls Royce of rice cookers. This one is the Lexus of rice cookers.

The main selling point for this one is that it has induction cooking and pressure cooking. I'm assuming that if you are looking at this machine, you are probably Asian and eat rice everyday. Does this machine make the rice so much better that it's worth the price, not really. Not for it to be worth this much but if you like your rice to be perfectly moist, this does a great job. I'm comparing this rice cooker to my old Tiger which is just a standard rice cooker. This one is all computer controlled and you just can't mess up the rice.

The main reason to get this rice cooker over a cheaper brand is that you want to eat brown rice. Now to be perfectly clear the brown rice is a lot softer but it is not the consistency of white rice. I was reading some reviews and people say they got the brown rice to have the same consistency as white rice. It's softer by far but the brown rice still has the brown cover on it so it is still harder than white rice but a lot softer. This pressure cooker version even makes it softer than just the induction model. I have both. I bought the induction only model and gave it to my mom and now I have this one.

I have no idea if the GABA feature really works but might as well use it, can't hurt.

This machine is made in Japan, not China. Some of the cheaper Zojirushi rice cookers are made in China now.

I have had a Zojirushi rice cooker for 22 years and it would still be going strong if I had not dropped it. It did not make me sad because it gave me the opportunity to buy the new one without guilt! I cook potatoes, artaichokes, soups and a lot more and oh yes rice too. I could not be happier and I know I will still be using it for years to come. As a professional chef I put my rice cooker right up there with my immersion blender and a good scale as a must have in the kitchen.

Zojirushi NP-HTC18 Induction Heating 10-Cup Pressure Rice Cooker and WarmerPurchased this rice cooker a few months ago and use it several times a week for breakfast, dinner, and dessert dishes. It does so much more than just make perfect rice. I also purchased the Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook and it provides excellent recipes in addition to an education about different rice cookers and rices. I highly recommend it in order to make the most of this extravagant purchase.

Update Over 2 years later...my rice cooker is still going strong. The inner pot still looks like new after using it at least three times a week. I have had no issues and still highly recommend the Zojirushi NP-HTC18. I love the Quick Cooking option for days I work late. I use sushi rice (rinsed well) and 23 minutes later awesome rice!

Has been working very well. I hope it lasts a long time, that is my only concern.

I like the safety feature of the button on the base that retracts and shuts the heater down if it falls over.

We had an inexpensive Omni heater with two heating bulbs, but one of them burned out. First I replaced the Omni with a fan forced ceramic heater that proved unsatisfactory. On the same day I returned the one and bought this model; they may have passed each other on the road.

The Comfort Zone Dish is not nearly as large as the Amazon listed dimensions led me to believe. Measuring the back of the heater, I came up with a generous 15 inch diameter. Its heating source appears to be a ceramic cone with coiled wire wrapped around the outside of the cone. As the wire heats and glows, heat is produced and reflected from the concave parabola behind it. Only a little more than half of the wire coils glow. The unit has no fan.

A radiant heater warms the object or person who is the target of the radiated heat; it's not the heater to buy if you want something to warm an entire room. Mrs. Spudman occasionally smokes on the unheated porch and when she does she wants to pack some direct heat on herself.

She is pleased with the heater; it heats fast with an intense, penetrating heat. Often she'll use the oscillation feature because a steady heat can become too hot. I narrowed my heater search to this heater and one with two vertical, halogen tubes;it also oscillates but doesn't tilt. She wanted a heater that could tilt up and down, so we chose this heater.

The plastic body on the Comfort Zone heater isn't the sturdiest, only only time will tell us about its longevity. Its controls are simple and easy to adjust. If I had to do it over again, I might go with a model with the two halogen lamps that are said to simulate the sun's spectrum. Among makers of the halogen lamp models are Comfort Zone and Soleus.

NOTE When I searched for heaters in mid February I found slim pickings in Home Depot and four models in the local Ace. Amazon has a fabulous selection and with Prime the heater was delivered the next day after the order was placed.

And another NOTE The Comfort Zone radiant heater is a product of China.

Good: The water did initially have a plastic taste but a few mL of bleach and a couple of run throughs eliminated the plastic taste

Bad; The dispenser is too small and the flow rate is poor

Ugly: Our unit has a mind of its own. It leaks about once a month resulting in water puddles on the floor. This unit is awful!

A GREAT BUY FOR THE PRICE!! IT WAS SHORT THOUGH. WE JUST SET IT UP A LITTLE STURDY TABLE IN OUR KITCHEN. I DO WISH THERE WAS MORE ROOM FROM THE TAP PART TO THE DRAIN PART AND WISH THE WATER DISPENSED A LITTLE MORE QUICKLY. BUT HAVING SAID THAT IT WAS A GREAT ITEM FOR THE PRICE!! NO MORE CARING GALLON JUGS TO WALMART FOR WATER NOW!! JUST TAKE A 5 GALLON JUG WHEN WE NEED IT..SO MUCH EASIER. ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR A DISABLED PERSON IF THEY NEED SOMETHING WHERE THEY HAVE TO USE GOOD WATER. WE LIVE IN THE COUNTRY AND EVEN WITH A WATER SOFTENER OUR WATER IS TERRIBLE. SO THIS IS PERFECT!!

This water cooler is very reasonably priced and a worthwhile investment for my office. It took about a week for the initial "smokey" taste to wear off but now the water tastes great. The cold is very cold and the hot is very hot. I was pleased to find a safety feature on the hot water handle.

Honest reviews on Igloo MWC496 Water Cooler Dispenser, Hot/Cold, White

The dispenser is smaller and shorter than it appears in photo. That's why it's so cheap. We bought one and returned it the same day when we got it due to an electric shock and malfunctioning. Pay more to get a better one if you plan to use it for more than a few years.
