There is a major flaw in the design of the Honeywell Whole Room Heater HZ-725. The heater is triggered to shut down completely when it overheats and you cannot reset it yourself. Honeywell recommends you have an electrician check out your electrical system when this occurs. Your only option is to return the heater to Honeywell at your expense plus an additional fee. Honeywell will then reset/repair and return the heater to you.

This heater worked for me for less than one week before completely shutting down. There was nothing I could do to get it started again. My home's electrical system with 3-prong plug outlets was in perfect working order when this occurred.

The problem with returning the heater to Honeywell for repair when this problem occurs is when you get it back from Honeywell, won't the same thing just happen all over again?

It is not my fault the heater triggered overheat; it is the fault of the heater and Honeywell. It is not my fault I cannot reset the heater when it triggers overheat; it is the fault of the heater design and Honeywell.

Do not make the mistake of buying this heater. BEWARE!

Worked really well for 2 months, and then stopped. The company (KAZ) sent a replacement, which again stopped working after 2 months. Save yourself time and money don't buy it...

The short review:

Worked great for a month, then it overheated and wouldn't turn on. Apparently, once it overheats, the on/off switch will melt shut, forcing you to either send it in or trash it for a new one. Quality of this heater is low.

The long(er) review:

I bought this heater at a local store, not on Amazon.com, but the review still stands. It worked great for the majority of the winter. Heats a small room fairly quickly on the highest heat setting, but it has no digital display to set an exact temperature setting. It also does not heat the floor, unlike cheaper, similar units. If you leave the heater on overnight, you run the risk of melting the on/off switch into the off position. This can be fixed, but you only have 2 choices if you want to fix it.

1) Send the heater in to Kaz/Honeywell, let them force you to pay $10 to fix the heater, along with postage paid by you and be out of heat for a few days/weeks OR

2) Open it up, voiding the warranty, and fix it yourself.

I chose option 2 and after cleaning off the melted plastic (!!) inside the switch (!!), the heater works once again. It's not easy, but who can complain about a working heater?

Update: 6/2/2011

We've had a few weird months of weather here and I had to use the heater a few times. On one of those days with abnormally cold weather, this heater decided to quit and wouldn't work, no matter how much poking and prodding I did to the switch. I finally bypassed the switch altogether and got the heater to work again.

Bad bad bad design.

Honest reviews on Honeywell Whole Room Heater, 18 x 18 x 19 1/2, Gray (HZ-725)

The header works great... until it triggers its overheat flaw and never works again. I guess I triggered that overheat flaw mentioned a few times in other reviews (which doesn't make any sense since I had it on a fairly low heat setting at the time). And like everybody else, I can't fix the problem myself. All it does now is uselessly take up space in my room. So my options are now (1) spend money I don't have on a new heater in mid-March right before the weather starts to get warm again or (2) wait out the cold weather for a little bit longer and save my money. Either way, I'm not buying another Honeywell heater ever again. I bought this heater in January and now on March 14th it no longer works.

This heater might work well in a smaller, enclosed room, but it did absolutely nothing for my open dining room. One of its flaws is that the heat is emitted from the top, so if you're trying to get your feet warm (Important! helps your whole body warm up), you're out of luck, as the top of the heater is about two feet off the floor. Also, I don't know if it's just a personal preference of mine or if there really is a difference in efficacy, but heaters that BLOW as opposed to those that just RADIATE seem to warm me, and the room, more quickly and efficiently.

As for the other reviewers mentioning that theirs broke after a short period of time, I'm not even going to comment on that, as I've only had mine for a day. But between the shortcomings I've noticed myself and those I've read about, I'm not going to take any chances. This thing is getting returned as soon as I can get it back into the box. I only wish I'd read the reviews before I purchased.

Living in the northern US, the long heating season invariably leaves my back dry and itchy. A similarly-afflicted friend and I were joking around, speculating on how one might design an item to apply moisturizing lotion to hard-to-reach areas, and spotted this item online.

I'll admit, I was skeptical about products like this. Are they effective? Wouldn't they be messy? Some offer replaceable applicator pads, but who wants to keep buying refills? Roll A Lotion has all of these concerns covered.

Unscrew the floating-ball head and load in your favorite lotion, cream, gel. Apply.

I've used mine for a couple of weeks, and it works perfectly. Nineteen rolling balls apply a nice even layer of lotion, no mess, no fuss. Thicker lotions work wonderfully; I use Curel. Keep in the shower for quick moisturizing after toweling off. To clean, remove the applicator head and rinse under the faucet.

Your back (or any other hard-to-reach part of your choosing) will thank you.

It really does work, but I've had 2 of them and the handle plastic keeps breaking. It gets stressed when the application ball piece is screwed on and then breaks.

I'll be looking for some other kind of applicator.

Best Deals on Roll-A-Lotion Applicator

I bought this applicator in the hopes that my Mother, who lives alone would find some relief from dry skin on her back. Well, she is thrilled. The applicator is easy to use and applies just the right amount of lotion to feel comfortable, and not "Slathered with grease". I am also pleased with the delivery time and responsiveness of the company who sells the applicators-Wellhaven Gifts for Seniors. While I cannot comment on the durablility of the handle, as stated in an earlier review, I am hopeful that if there is a problem, it will be well handled by Wellhaven.

Honest reviews on Roll-A-Lotion Applicator

I used one of these on and off for about 6 months. It is very poorly constructed. And it does not work well anyway. The lotion is not applied well. The balls do not roll very well. some of the lotion dries up and then the balls get stuck. I got frustrated with it and left it, but then decided to try it again. I was still very disappointed. Then a piece of the side wall just broke off. I decided then I've had enough of the crap and threw it away. I would not recommend this product it all. I wouldn't even want it for free.

Over half of the roller balls were 'frozen' solid and would not turn ...I used abrasive cloth and got a few to rotate ... but many just won't roll.

The product design, production and quality control are all so low as to make the product impossible to use.

I really wanted a corner fireplace, I already have an amish fireplace, so I ordered stonegate Corner Fireplace. When it arrived, it had so many parts, and not good directions, and when we DID start to screw pieces together, the whole thing fell apart. I paid $300 for this? My husband went to the hardware store and bought screws that would hold together, it took 2 1/2 hrs to get it together after we figured out how and used store bought screws that worked. I was very disappointed in this product for the price I paid for it. It is together and in my kitchen, but the pressed board like material that they gave us for this was very poor, I would not recommend it to anyone until they refamp the material and get better directions and materials that will hold this fireplace together. My Soleus HM1-10-32 is used to supplement my oil heat since prices have gone up. I have no problem heating a 18' x 12' living room. I wanted the non-remote version because I've got too many remotes and dont need another one. To my surprise this regular model is now coming with ECO (economy mode).

The heating element consists of two 500W vertical heat panels:

1) LOW: In this mode only one heat panel turns on (the right panel).

2) High: In this mode both (right and left) heat panels turn on.

3)ECO: In this mode both 500W heat panels turn on until the room reaches a certain temp then the right heat panel turns off and the left one remains on until the thermostat takes over and cycles one 500W panel.

Noise: The 500W heat panels will warp at little as they warm-up. This warping makes a low clunk sound. Not loud enough to disturb you but noticable. Also the thermostat makes a click as it cycles.

Power: 1000W seems to be enough for me and doesnt cause heating of the line cord. At this power level the unit can share another device on the same line if need be. The 500W setting works well for most of my conditions. For instance I get home from work and the burner has kept the house at 63 degrees F. I turn-on the heater at 1000W until the living room wall thermostat reads 69 F then I turn the heater to low and let it cycle.

Heat: Since it has a back or rear to the element I tried it up against a wall. This heated the wall up real well. After moving it out in the open it seemed much more effective. The heater emits a LOT of heat out of the top and heats only about out to three feet from the front. I also heats out to 1.5 feet to the rear. Other than that its mostly Infra-red waves to the front and rear and ambient heat to the top.

Very handy carry handle on one side and attractive thin profile make this a real versatile low profile heater. With the Micathermic elements the heating elements are not exposed to the air so it is safe.

I really think this is the future in portable heating because it is the quietest heater I have used. Also with heat out of the top, infra red to the front and heat to the rear its very effective.

Edit: 2/6/07

Well we had our first single digit night here in NY and it kept the bedroom at 68F by using 1000W and letting it cycle all night. Thats 68F with my door open and attic air leaking thru the attic stairs (in otherwords worst case) at 8 deg outside temp. Normally on an 8 deg night my bedroom is 59F.

I also knocked it completely over while walking around in the dark. The Power was off and it lived no problem. No damage works fine.

Another point is that no matter how close it is to objects in the bedroom they do not heat to a dangerous temp. They will get warm but not hot.

When sitting on the coach with it 3 feet away and facing you (maximum comfy) you only feel a mild radiant heat not a blast in the face. Try that with most radiant heaters and you'll get a tan.

Lovin' it.

Does a good job heating a 10" x 12' bedroom. It's totally silent, so it's perfect for the bedroom. It does heat up almost instantly, but at only 1000 watts, does not heat up the room very quickly. Best to turn it on an hour before you turn in, to give it time to heat up the room. I'm using it in a house that I set to 58 degrees overnight, with single digit temperatures outside. The bedroom stays in the upper 60's for the night while this is on. Update: It stopped working after a couple of months. Got a new one that's been working fine all winter. The one year warranty was good, but the return experience was poor. Had to call many times over many days to get an actual person. The return involved cutting the end of the power cord and mailing at my expense back to them (good to not have to pay to send the entire unit back). Plus, had to send them money to cover shipment of the replacement unit (I think it was $16). All in all, it cost me over 40% of the original cost to get warranty replacement. It seems that this is becoming a common practice these days, but not easy to find out until you call for repair. So consider this a heads up so you can factor this in to your purchasing decision.

I bought this item online for $58 and it broke after a few days of very light use. The thermostat failed and the plastic knob broke. I don't recommend Soleus products. Their quality is very bad.

Honest reviews on Soleus Air HM1-10-32 Ultra Thin Micathermic Heater, Black

This item does NOT promote enough heat even at a high setting. I recommend the DeLongi flat panel heater, as you can actually mount the heater, and it puts off a great deal to heat at a much lower setting, for about the same price of this unit...

I got a Mr. Heater Single unit about 8 years ago as a backup source of heat after hurricane Hugo knocked out our power for three weeks. It is still working fine and has come in real handy during infrequent ice storms and winter power failures.

My dad liked my single a lot so he bought a Mr. Heater Double to heat a big 3 car garage sized shop. He liked it but now thinks that a single would have worked fine as the double gets that big area heated in no time and keeps it really toasty.

My single unit works far better than gas logs to heat up a room. It does make a hissing sound that is not too loud but barely audible. A single will knock the chill off a large room in no time. A tank of propane will last about 30 to 36 continuous hours if you keep it set on low. I think this is a great alternative to other auxilary heat sources like Kerosuns or a fireplace. With an asthmatic child in our family, a kerosene heater is out of the question for us. This burns clean, creates no odor, smoke or soot. There's no maintenance, no wicks or anything like that. You can store it indefinitely untouched and then pull it out and fire it up with no preparation. I will buy another one if mine ever wears out.

I have recommended Mr. Heater to lots of my friends and family and have no reservation about recommending one to you. If you can't decide whether you need a single, double or triple I suggest trying the single first. Then if you aren't happy step up to the double or triple. It is really amazing how much heat a Mr. Heater Single generates!

It is rare to find a really good product that is durable and an excellent value. Mr. Heater is one of those rare finds. They are the Zippo lighter of auxillary space heaters in my opinion.

I live in the South, and in November each year I like to build a temporary enclosure for my deck. Last year I tried to rely on a firepit and electric heater for warmth--big mistake. This year I have the Mr. Heater--big bonus.

I've owned and operated the Mr. Heater for a few days now, and I can tell you that it really puts out the heat. If you're used to plug-in heaters you buy at Wal-Mart, you'll be blown away by the heat this thing puts out. 8,000 BTU's is incredible (that's the lowest setting). There just isn't anything comparable in its class.

I've never used propane before, so I was hesitant (there's just something about all that compressed lethel gas that gives me pause). But, it has been easy.

1. Buy the Mr. Heater and READ the manuel.

2. Go to Home Depot, Lowes, etc. and purchase a 20lb. propane tank. At the time of this writing, it costs about $48 for a filled tank (since you're a first-time buyer).

3. There's a threaded pipe part of the Mr. Heater that you press into the companion pipe on the propane tank; twist the nut on the Mr. Heater into the propane tank. Use a wrench to tighten.

4. On the propane tank is a faucet-like handle that you turn to open the gas flow.

5. Turn the Mr. Heater nob to the Medium dot.

6. Press in the Ignition.

** I recommend checking for leaks by using some soapy water. Please do this--only takes a minute. **

7. Use a match or candle lighter placed with a flame where it says.

8. It will immediately ignite; hold in the ignition for up to 30 seconds and release.

Voila. You've got instant heat--and it's instant! To turn off, just turn the Mr. Heater nob back to Off. Also, very important, it's a good idea to "close" the gas flow from the propane tank, so just turn that faucet to the closed position.

Refills are currently about $17. Just take the tank in, and at Home Depot, the used propane tank is swapped out for one that's already filled.

It's that easy! As one reviewer noted, it's not completely silent. There is a low hiss (from the propane release), but it hasn't bothered me at all. An excellent heater.

I bought this heater to take the chill off the cool desert evenings. I use it on my patio which is not enclosed and it puts out enough heat to warm 4 people sitting around the patio table. Often the person sitting closest to the heater has to move away as they get too warm. I used this unit all winter with no problems.

Honest reviews on Mr. Heater MH15T Single Tank-Top Propane Heater

We live right on a coastal cliff in Northern California, so cool sea breezes are a way of life. It never gets over about 72 and almost never below about 50 during the day/early evening.

We have a small deck and have looked longingly at the big overhead gas heaters, but rust is such a problem here and the space so small that it wasn't really an option.

We got this heater almost as an experiment to see if a small horizontal unit would let us sit out in the evening, where after sunset it's usually around 55, too cool to sit comfortably.

And it works! The great thing for us is it's small enough to stuff in a wardrobe until needed.

It screws onto a propane bottle quickly (in fact once I've finished barbecuing I just unhook the bottle, drag it over to where we sit and attach the heater to the top.. it all takes about 2 minutes).

The heat is good, but not what you would call particularly radiant, which is to say most of the heat goes straight up, BUT the refector does a good enough job that if we (two of us) sit reasonably close together we for sure get a nice steady warming effect with it on max.

To sum up, it does what it says and is a good option for those who want to warm an area of their porch, but keep in mind it will be a small area unless you have a fairly enclosed space which will stop the heat escaping.

I think a larger refector would do a better job for us though, and if given the chance over I would probably spend a little more to get the same make but with the double reflector.

However this is a great product and I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

The heater works as advertised. I have almost finished my second 20lb propane tank using this heater with no issues. I am located at about 5400 feet above sea level for those with concerns about using it at altitude. I have noticed that on the high setting (it also has low and medium) it tends to produce a slight propane odor. This is most likely due to the lower quantity of oxygen at our altitude, and therefore does not produce a complete burn. However, the medium heat setting works great and gets my 2 car garage comfortably warm in about 30 minutes.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM) Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Because I spend a lot of my day at my desk, I need to lift my feet periodically to change the pressure and position to ward off back pain. Until I got this footrest, I was resting my feet on a subwoofer under my desk, hardly the best option, although I cannot honestly say that this is better, just different.

The unit has a hard, knobby, plastic surface to massage your feet and vents through which a fan directs airflow. It has two heat settings (the high one is too hot for bare feet but okay when I wear socks) and a cooling fan that simply blows air. Although the product description claims that the height and angle are adjustable, it really has only two heights, an inch apart, and two angle settings, both of which are "adjusted" by folding out little feet on the bottom. You won't be able to adjust it precisely. The footrest is fairly lightweight, something that's both good and bad: good because I like to move it out of the way, but bad because it looks a little cheap, an issue if you plan to leave it in a highly visible place. Still, because of the angle, it doesn't move under my feet when I'm using it, even when I press against it.

The device does have a few flaws. The strongest airflow comes out of the center, between my feet . The air under my feet is essentially dissipated air, not as energy efficient or as effective as it would be if it had two fans, one under each foot, or a larger one. But I wouldn't want a stronger fan since the footrest makes enough noise as it is; I get irritable after a while of hearing it, but that may be because I like silence.

If you wear shoes all the time, this footrest will do nothing for you since the air won't reach your feet and the knobby surface won't massage your soles. If you, like me, wear socks or go barefoot, even in the winter, you'll be able to appreciate both the surface and the temperature control.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I've never owned/used a footrest before. At least, not one designed as such. After years of using boxes and my computer's back up power source to prop my feet up, I finally got an Official Footrest. The heat and fan were just perks originally, but I have found that I rather like them and actually use them. The heater takes quite a while to heat up, but when it does it is nice and warm. The fan isn't cold, but it provides a nice breeze that helps me keep my temperature down.

I like the texture of the footrest, it keeps my feet from sliding off and can be used to massage one's feet :) The cord is short, which could be a problem for some people, but a little extension cord should fix that quite nicely. The climate controls are located at the front and center of the device, which I find very handy. I can turn it on and off with a flick of my foot! Unfortunately, changing the temp requires bending over and turning a dial.

The star off is for two reasons one, it is quite loud when running the fan or the heater, and two, there is no timer or automatic off. I haven't been using it long enough to accidentally leave it running, but I can see it happening after I've had it a while and gotten used to the noise.

So, if you are looking for a footrest and are picky about your foot temperature, then look no further! You have found the product for you!

UPDATE 12/12/11: Yeah. The heater is just awesome.

UPDATE 6/21/12: *Sniff* It broke. About a week ago. Neither the heater nor the fan are working. I think it is an electrical problem, since sometimes the light will go on and then off if the cord is twisted. I didn't do anything in particular to break it. I did tend to kick it around with my feet and this might have squished the cord. There is no visible damage though. I miss my heater :(

Best Deals on Fellowes Climate Control Footrest (8030901)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I was really eager to get this footrest unit under my desk and try it out. Admittedly, I have terrible posture. When I work at a desk all day, my body compresses in on itself leaving me with the most horrendous headaches. So any product that hints at relief is something that I'm willing to try.

However, I just don't think I appreciate the advantages of the product. It is so high off the ground, it feels more awkward then I had anticipated. You can do some adjustments, with effort, on the angle and tilt--but on height, you are stuck with the limitations of the product. I'd have liked the unit to have some give so that my feet might be able to manipulate it into a more beneficial position--but it's a big process to make slight and barely noticeable changes. Trust me, it's done nothing for my posture and I weary of it soon enough--kicking it out of the way after a short while. The surface is hard plastic and not particularly comfortable if you take your shoes off. Looking at the picture, it appeared more rubberized (hey, rubber with a little massage action, that sounds nice, maybe that's what I want!).

And lastly, there is the heating and ventilation component. Listen, I don't mind crawling on the ground to turn the settings but some might. The unit, itself, is plenty large enough--but due to design, only the middle part is connected to the air flow. So to even take advantage of this, you must press your feet together in the center as opposed to sitting in your own comfort zone.

An intriguing idea that suffers from fairly poor execution. While I may have gotten this product free to review, it is also something an idiot like me might have bought free and clear. I am the target market for these completely extraneous electronics, and I'm afraid I just don't get this one.

Honest reviews on Fellowes Climate Control Footrest (8030901)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Like most people here, I did not think it was completely necessary. I used it as a footrest for the most part, since I like to sit up higher to work on my computer and need some support on my feet to help with my back. It is fine. And yes, you can get a decent footrest for $10.

Last week I moved into a "penthouse office" while the AC was not installed yet. So the temp hit 87 before noon and I had the fan on from this little thing. It worked.

So now the AC is in and the temp is in the 50s in NYS what'a up with that? Anyway, my colleagues are shivering in their sweaters and my tooties are warm, thanks to this little devise. Who knew!

it is not at all what i was expecting. i would not recommend it.

This handwarmer has a microUSB port for charging. It lasts quite a few hours on one charge, but I have never used it from full charge to dead so I have no idea how long it actually is.

It doesn't need a "sock" or cover, as it never gets quite warm enough to risk burns. It doesn't hold heat when exposed to cold air, but kept in a pocket it keeps things nice and toasty.

MicroUSB cables and AC->USB adaptors are ubiquitous, so I can charge it pretty much anywhere. I got mine last year, and after the summer in storage it still works fine. My only complaint is that it can only warm up one pocket at a time, so I may invest in a second one.

I was a little hesitant on getting an electric hand warmer. However, when I got this I was more than pleased. Great quality and the battery lasts a long time on high (6.5 hrs). It felt good in my pants pocket on a New Jersey winters night! I am getting another one and attaching it to a belt that will go o n my back near my kidneys to keep me really warm!

I looked over many sets on-line and I chose this one based on looks and certainly on the weight of the set. If you look at the other sets, most of them weigh much less; some even one-half of what this weighs. My last set was much cheaper and it showed after time.... the shovel could bend at the shovel end, etc. I was concerned buying a tool set on line without seeing and feeling it. I was certainly pleased when this one arrived and I knew instantly that it would hold up for a lifetime. It is heavy duty. Very pleased with my purchase. Highly recommend. Looks great!

Purchased this unit a few weeks ago to cool a small office room (about 120sf). I was skeptical when I bought it because I was unsure how well portable AC units could be. The unit works really well and is very nice looking. The blowers are somewhat loud but given the small size of my room that is to be expected. It's not annoying loud. My only complaints were the poor documentation regarding the drainage. There are two drainage outlets. The upper one requires a garden hose attachment. This is only required if you are using the unit in the dehumidifier mode (which I am not). The instructions about this one were clear. The second drainage port is very small at the bottom of the unit. There were no specific instructions about this. It has a soft rubber cap. Once a day I place a shallow tin (pie tin) and drain the water. This is really important otherwise you will have a leak on your floor. Ideally you would hook up some type of small tube to drain. The only problem is that this drain is only about an inch above the floor which makes draining somewhat clumsy.

You do need to vent the unit and it comes with a good length, expandable, 6" thick plastic vent tube. I believe it stretches to 6 feet. Also comes with a window adapter.

Aside from the drainage issue, the unit seems very well made and works wonderfully. Comes with a remote control which I have not used.

WARNING-

There is NO REASON to drain the water from the bottom outlet during normal conditions.

Modern portable units REUSE the condensation water to their advantage (for evaporative cooling). The only time you would drain is if you need to move the portable system.

BACKGROUND-

My house has central air, but my computer room gets hot on it's own, and central air doesn't kick in since the average house temperature isn't hot enough for it to kick in. So the solution? Get an air conditioner for just the computer room. I have a vertical sliding window, and that makes getting an affordable window air conditioner quite difficult. I settled for this portable AC.

INSTALL-

Installation of the window pane didn't take too long, and was generally easy. Only issue is that although the pane was more than long enough (maximum length of 48.5"; minimum of 26.6"), the amount of non-adhesive and adhesive seal was insufficient to make rounds around the window, resulting in gaps for outside air to freely come in, as well as potential bugs.

Another issue is that the window pane has holes on it for screws that I'm not using (since this is meant for both vertical and horizontal window panels; so I'm not using the horizontal screws), and again, this will result in the outside air to freely come in, as well as potential bugs.

Both issues are solved by getting more seal, and/or taping it up.

Note that sound and heat/cold radiation will be more with this window pain, since it's just one sheet, as opposed to double-panel windows, which insulate very well.

In addition to the window kit, an L-shaped metal hinge is included so that you can block the window from sliding, since you can't lock your window anymore (for vertical sliding windows), for security.

ACCESSORIES-

The duct is of better quality than I imagined. It's very hard, and will not crinkle easily, and can do tight turns (although this is not recommended in the manual). It however does not come with any insulating material, so you may want to get a cover for it to insulate the heat better. The duct ranges from 15" to 55" in length.

The remote is also of better quality than I imagined. It has a small LCD display with backlight that shows the current settings, and you can change any of these settings using it. I expected a non-LCD remote with just buttons on it. It uses 2 AAA batteries, of which are included.

COOLING-

It cools. Very well. Outside temperature is 70F, house temperature is 77F, room temperature was 89F while installing this unit. After about an hour, room temperature is down to 75F, of which I am happy of (and will keep around there).

This unit features fan-only mode and cooling mode, with cooling mode having two options: manual and auto. Manual, you control everything, fan speed and temperature. Auto, it controls it by itself to get it down to the temperature you want it at, and keep it there (so if it's hot, it will blast the fan at full 'till it gets to lower temperature, then start using slower fan speed for quieter operations).

It also features sleep-mode, in addition to timers, which increases the temperature every half hour for 7 hours, then decreases it back to what you set it at (so you can save energy by not using it as much when you're asleep).

Power consumption, in the manual, says it uses 8.4-9.1A @ 115V input, and estimates a power usage of 560 Watts for cooling.

Note: Fan is on at all times if the device is on, presumably to take advantage of the evaporative cooling, so it will never be silent as long as it's on. Be sure to take this into account if you're planning on using this in the room you sleep in.

I bought this unit for my 180 sq ft home office which needs more cooling power than our central unit can deliver. The room has 3 large east-facing windows which receive full sunlight for at least 4 hours each morning in the summer. It also contains a workstation-class laptop computer, 2 22" monitors, an external hard drive, and several pieces of networking hardware.

With the doors closed this room easily reaches 85 degrees by noon each day in the summer (even with the window blinds closed), while the central AC maintains the rest of the house at 78 degrees.

The first full day I used this unit I left it off and the office doors and blinds closed until 10 AM when the room had reached 84.6 degrees. After running full-blast for 1 hour the room temperature had dropped to just 78.9 degrees and never dropped below 78 degrees until the windows were shaded.

If you have a medium-sized home office this unit will provide more than enough cooling power to negate the effects of your electronics, but if you don't already have central AC you will need a bigger unit.

Keep in mind that the 5000 BTUs of cooling provided is enough to balance out the effects of about 15 100W light bulbs (each bulb produces 341 BTUs of heat per hour). You can calculate the wattage of other electronic devices by multiplying their power source voltage * amps (the wattage is sometimes provided by the manufacturer in the user manual).

Also keep in mind that this is a single-hose unit which creates negative air pressure in the room where it operates. This causes some air to be drawn from other parts of the building to balance the pressure. If you need a portable unit as your primary cooling source you should look for a two-hose unit that maintains a more neutral air pressure.

Honest reviews on Frigidaire FRA053PU1 5,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner

We got this for my daughter's room, which gets hotter than most of the house, despite having only an eastern and a northern exposure. On a moderately hot day, in the 80s, it will keep her room comfortable. But if it's in the 90s (when she needs it most!), it just can't keep up. When the temperature was in the mid to upper 90s, the best we could get in her room was 84. And this is a very, very small room (less than 100 square feet). Maybe I'm expecting too much. But sometimes the air blowing out doesn't even feel cold.

On the positive side, it's reasonably quiet (for this type of unit), it doesn't make strange noises (as these units often do), it's simple to operate and easy to install, and it's certainly a lot better than not having any AC at all. But if you often have days in the 90s or higher, I would recommend that you get an AC unit with a higher BTU rating, even if you are only cooling a small space. Conventional window air conditioners are not allowed where we live (so I'm grateful for this type of AC unit), but if they are an option for you, they are much, much more efficient than portable ACs.

UPDATE: After just a couple of months, the unit completely quit working, so I've lowered my rating from three stars to one.

Don't know what the other bad reviewers are talking about. I got my unit today and it works fine. Put it in the computer room and set the temperature to 75 and in less than 20 minutes the room was cold.

There are five modes: Cooling (AC), Heating, Dry (dehumidifier), Fan & Auto mode. Only the Cooling mode blows cold air and you need to set the machine to it first. Unless the other one-star reviewers actually have a defective unit I assume they are not setting the machine correct.

Pros: 1. Wheels are smooth and did not scratch my hardwood floor, a concern of mine as this weighs about 40 pounds.

2. Blows cold air in under a minute

3. Has a big handle at the top of the unit for easy rolling PLUS two side handles for easy lifting up and down stairs. Sweet!

4. Simple intuitive user interface and the remote is just as nicely designed, too.

Cons: 1. It's big at 28" high & 16" wide. Imagine a large window mounted AC sideways and this is what you got. I thought it'd be as big as a paper trash bin but it's more like a kitchen trash can.

2. The hose from the back of the machine to the window is huge. The machine itself is sleek but the hose going to window won't win any beauty contest.

Not a pro or con but it's as loud as every other AC I ever owned, meaning it quickly becomes background static after a few minutes.

Coclusion: I finally bought a portable AC because come summertime I hated the fact that I lose a window, and sunlight, in the computer room and bedroom. I'm glad I picked this up and my sister is getting one for her home, too.

Review of Factory-Reconditioned BISSELL 7901R Powersteamer Proheat Clearview

A couple of years ago we took our carpets out and refinished the 50 year old hardwood floors on the main level of the house. The floor below we kept the carpet because of the concrete slab. I had an old bissel steam cleaner (round model) from 15 years back that was dying out. We now have a 1 year old maltese that is not nessarily fully potty trained, so we needed to upgrade our cleaner. A neighbor had the 7901 model and we used it a couple of times and it worked wonders. I wanted to purchase one but not at the full price in the store. I ended up buying the factory reconditioned model and am very pleased with it. It really cleans and extracts the water from the rug. I use the separate attachments in my cars and it works much better than the bissel little green. I have not tried any other models or brands because I have been pleased with bissel in the past. All in all it has been a great purchased.

We put the steamer to work the day it arrived, and were completely satisfied with its performance. We have purchased new steamers in the past, and there was no discernable difference between them and the reconditioned model we purchased from Amazon. Try one. You'll like it!

My factory-reconditioned Bissell works just fine. I do agree that the "turbo brush" doesn't really do anything, however.

I have used my steamer about once a month since I bought it last summer (2004), and I have never had any problems with it. I even use a natural cleaner in it so that I don't put chemicals into my carpet that could harm my son, and that has not caused any problems either.

I do recommend that you perform the maintenance listed in the booklet because I see how problems could occur without proper maintenance, and it doesn't take a lot of effort to maintain this machine (mostly just rinsing off pieces that pop in and out). The most "difficult" task I have had in maintaining this machine was to unscrew the front of the unit to remove carpet fibers that had been sucked inside. It took less than 3 minutes total to do this.

I have not tried it on hard floors.

I really like this machine, and I recommend it!!

Honest reviews on Factory-Reconditioned BISSELL 7901R Powersteamer Proheat Clearview

It worked great for about 6 cleanings. After about 6 cleanings over the past year the Bissell Pro cleaners water bucket no longer seated very well. The suction dropped off to about 50% and I had to put weight on the bucket in order to suck up the water. That fix worked but then the REALLY CHEAP floor attachments broke. Yes, just when I needed it most to clean my stairs, the THIN and poorly designed floor suction attachment broke and would not spray water very well and it started leaking air where it cracked. It's been too long to get a refund so I'm throwing this one away and am going to try a hoover. I'm in my 40s and can work my way around most mechanical problems but I can't thicken cheap plastic parts. Bissell, your product engineers need to be fired!

To keep the long story short: I own it for 6+ months, it works Ok for carpets to remove stains when using hand tool (get ready for hard work). Standard mode does not do much as well as TurboBrush works for marketing purposes only. As for hardfloor cleaning this thing fails miserably (bare floor attachemnt does not help much eaither).

As for chemicals look for other brands. Bissel cleaning solutions are useless. I've tried Pink Solution and it works well, but remember to use hot water for SmartMix Tank on the last run otherwise this chemical may cloak the system. Scotchgard is a joke carpets stay cleaner without it.

On the positive side it is powerful and I really like the water tank idea easy to replace and clean.

It was easy to put together. I did it by myself. It works like a charm, warms up a rather large bedroom well. It's a little noisy, but not any worse than a ceiling fan.

Good unit to warm up a seldom used area for the holidays. Since it is not vented I definitely recommend a dehumidifier be run at the same time, since propane contains a lot of water vapor when burning it tends to condense on any colder surface ( windows, doors, cold outside walls etc) The dehumidifier helps to cut the amt of condensation.

The reason I got this fireplace was because it looks pretty good. We just had a spa set up in the basement. So we thought it may be a good display. Plus, the price is very good. So we decided to get one. The heater looks GREAT and fits right in our spa. And it is very warm. It does heat up the whole room. Our basement is approximately 400 square feet. And this little thing does its job. I ended up buying another two more. Now, I have two in the spa and one in our entertainment room. I highly highly recommend it. I am very very happy with this product. It looks elegant. And it is very sturdy. You can put miscellaneous items on it because the top is not hot. I only put a plant on it to keep the simple look. The top is not hot at all because heat comes out from the bottom. Trust me, I don't usually write reviews, but this is one of the best products I have ever purchased. One thing is I see this product in BJs at a lower price. The model # at BJs is a little different. The one from Amazon is DFS-550-0. The one from BJs is DFS-550-22. They sell it for $85. I tried to find this DFS-550-22 on-line, but not able to find it. So I THINK it may be discontinued already. So, whoever is interested in a fireplace, you may want to also check out the one in BJs. Not sure whether they are the same or not.

Performance: Heats a 350 sq/ft, 3 room travel trailer in about an hour. The thermostat is excellent and functions like a furnace. The fan is a very quiet hum. We left it running for 8 hours straight; the top was warm, but the rest of the unit stays cool. Only the grate in front of the heating element gets hot. When it reaches the desired temperature, it makes a series of clicking noises, and then the heating element (red light) shuts off followed by the fan. The remote control works great.

Appearance: It is an attractive design, mostly metal, with some plastic. There are 5 flame brightness options. At the highest setting the flames look very cheesy, but we enjoy the warm glow at a 2 or 3 level. The digital function display only lights up when you are powering the unit on, or adjusting a setting.

Cons: The metal frame is thin. The 'stove lid' above the heater causes a rattling sound. We added a little weight with a faux candle holder and river rock display, and that helps the noise. The rattling isn't bothersome with the tv on, but is a little distracting while reading.

Ok, yes I live in Texas and sometimes it DOES get cold here. I bought this so I wouldn't have to keep the fireplace going all the time. It's really cute and it keeps our 14x20 room very comfortable.

Living in the South, it is difficult to get out of the heat. Our central air just does not keep up with the heat here. So I had a handy-man install the Frigidare 8,000 BTU unit in my home/office room.

It has been running constant, night and day since April without missing a beat. I can turn the temp down to "cold" and it works just fine. It runs quiet and cools me off.

In fact our electric bill has been less since I had it installed... go figure.

I highly recommend this unit.

I replaced a 1967 15,000 with my new 8,000btu A/C., demensions were the same,14 1/2" x 24".I did a direct mount through the wall and sprayed "Great Stuff" foam insulation to fill the 1/4" gap on each side and top. This has a sound berrier effect. When I point my 20" box fan toward my bedroom and turn it on medium speed, I can not hear my new Frigidaire FRA086HT1 8,000 BTU Through-the-Wall Air Conditioner running, unless I stand in front of it. It cools our bedroom, kitchen and my office located directly across from it. I will be buying a 5,000btu for my bedroom next spring.

Sitting in the same room with this air conditioner is like sitting on the wing of a 747. Very loud hum from fan. It does a great job cooling if you can stand the noise. Not recommended for a room with a television. You'll be turning up the volume and going to bed with buzzing in your ears.

I needed an air conditioner to replace the worn out through-the-wall unit in my small commercial office. This unit had the dimensions that I needed. I also purchased the wall sleeve to properly mount the air conditioner. After one summer's use, it has worked just fine to cool the approximately 500 sq ft area.

This unit died within 1 year and the back looks like the Titanic.Obviously Florida weather is tough on units but I have a window unit that is 8 years old and still works just fine.Warranty does not cover rust which is the number 1 reason these units break.Do not waste your time with an extended warranty as it is useless.
