Reviews of Mini USB Fridge (RED)

Mini USB Fridge
Customer Ratings: 3 stars

The mini fridge is very cute, my coworkers all have a good laugh over it. It helps keep an already chilled beverage cool longer than if it was just sitting on my desk, but if you insert a warm soda and put it in the mini fridge overnight, in the morning you'll have... a slightly less warm soda. So, it's good if I want to bring a couple sodas from the kitchen to my desk, drink one and keep one in the mini fridge for a little later, but no good at chilling off a warm soda.

Got one of these for a christmas present for someone. It hought it would be a cool Idea, and on paper it looks cool. In practice though, it just doesn't work.

The problem is, this version of the device doesn't actually cool, it's a passive cooling system rather than an active one, it has a fan to remove heat from a heat sync, but that's it.

There is a different version that has a peltier type cooler in it as well, the active one should work better, and I think it cost a similar price to what this one once did (paid $24 for mine originally)

It does look neat though, maybe if someone was a coke nut, and their drink is already cool, it may help keep it cooler longer, but don't expect to get a room temperature soda down to a nice cool level.

May be a neat hack project or something (if you put the cooler on top instead of on bottom, it might work better) but I wouldn't recommend buying this version.

Purchased this for a colleague and it looks great sitting on his desk. Sadlly it doesn't do much to actually cool his drink it emerges from the mini USB fridge slightly cooler than room temperature. Disappointing.

It was a very great product, I have it to my mother for Mother's Day and she brings it everyday to work and she says it keeps her Coke cold.

I'm really sad about it too. It looks so cute, but it didn't really make or keep the soda can cold. Amazing idea, just needs improvement.

The item shipped quickly and was delivered by UPS. For us the stoveboard is the perfect size for our rectangular kerosene heater. It does a good job protecting the floor near the kerosene heater from residual heat. The metal top of the board is very attractive and exceeded our expectations. My only quibble is that the edges of the metal folded under on the bottom of the board could be smoother. I don't think the edges will scratch our hardwood floor, but I may tape around the edges just to be safe.

Overall I am very pleased with this purchase.

Added note: I notice that the kerosene heater slides somewhat on this smooth stoveboard. I'll have to get a roll of that sticky mesh product used on kitchen shelves and in drawers to prevent the heater from moving.

Just got this tower heater today. Observations so far:

-I deducted a star because it's a bit wobbly on carpet and on ceramic tile. It's probably too heavy to tip easily, but it bears mentioning. It's quite tall. The space saving of a tower heater is perfect for my small motorhome, so I live with wobble. No idea how this could be corrected without creating unwanted bigger footprint or weight.

-I put it in a different place during the day, so the carry handle is convenient.

-It seems to be more powerful than my smaller Lasko tower heater, even though the watt settings are the same as the smaller heater. Maybe it's more efficient.

-The front definitely needs to be located a yard from any flammables, because the heat coming out is too hot to hold my hand two feet in front of it, even on low, for more than a few seconds.

-The remote is simple to use. The remote's buttons could be more differentiated for easier operation in the dark.

-The controls on the heater itself are cheesy looking, and the engraved silver-on-silver labels are difficult to read in shadow.

-I would like to have the thermostat work on the low setting. In both my Lasko towers the thermostat works only on high. Freeze or fry.

-The heat and blower can't be felt at the bottom foot or so. I can put it almost anywhere, and it won't bother the cat on the floor. The downside is that the lowest part of the room isn't heated.

-There's a clip on the back that holds the remote. It would be great for Lasko to include a second one of those cutom fitted clips to be able to attach to a wall to hang the remote near where it will actually be used.

I phoned Lasko to get some help comparing the various heaters, of which they list 19 in the tower design alone. Basically I was told I had to figure it out myself from whatever product descriptions they provided online. Fortunately Home Depot online makes an effort to help compare multiple products; although, it's limited to what they offer, of course. Both HD and Walmart carry this model, but neither had it in stock. Prices were the about the same, and I saved tax and shipping with my Prime membership by purchasing through Amazon.

I recently purchased the LASKO 5568 and liked it so much I decided to get another; wound up getting this model instead and can't say enough good things about it. The design is well conceived, solid quality construction, and very effective. Throws out a considerable amount of heat, the fan is very quiet at both high and low, and the options for operation are all useful and work well. Lasko seems to manufacture a series of these ceramic tower units and all are very well reviewed; I checked the review on bestcovery.com and this unit was rated number 1, and for good reason. I use both these heaters in larger rooms (14 X 26) with 9 ft. ceilings and they are effective in taking off the chill and keeping the room comfortable. The fan on this model is so quiet on low I can barely hear it, yet it continues to put out a steady stream of hot air. Appears to be a quality product built to last, and at $68 you get a LOT for your money, I rate this a best buy as well.

We were looking for another space heater and a friend recommended the Lasko Ceramic Tower. We purchased a later model, and there were some improvements, such as the carring handle. It is light weight and easy to carry to different locations. It does a very good job of heating the room. We live in North West Tennessee and with the combination of another space heater, we have not used our furnace at all this year. The electric bill has dropped dramatically. We will be purchasing another Lasko next winter. Lasko 5572 Ceramic Tower Heater with Logic Center Remote Control

Honest reviews on Lasko 5572 Oscillating Ceramic Tower Heater with Remote Control

My bedroom averages 56 degrees in the winter. I freeze when getting dressed or when I first get into bed. I now set the heater to 65 degrees and in no time the large bedroom is cozy even though there are cathedral ceilings. I'm sure if I wanted the room warmer the tower would bring the temperature up higher. I also like the way the Lasko 5572 oscillates. I would recommend this heater to anyone who needs to heat a room and keep it at a consistent temperature.

Just bought and received this through Amazon. A family member recommended the Lasko brand after his purchasing a few different models and sizes himself in the past three years.

After further researching different models and brands, I purchased this one because it rated highly on Amazon.com and other sites -including bestcovery.com -in the Top 5 for Best Tower, Best Large Room, and Best Oscillating.

Below I'll describe a few things to help others trying to decide....including why I was looking, features I sought, setting it up, and how it performed first two days.

WHY: I live in a cold, damp geography during winter and the home's central electric heat seems to be on all the time. Needed something for a large open living/dining/kitchen poorly insulated space on the first floor ~800 sq ft, which is typically colder.

FEATURES SOUGHT: Specifically, features I wanted and influencing my decision for this model:

--Ceramic (no open heating elements)

--Powerful ~1500 watts (for large space)

--Automatic Thermostat / Auto Temp Control (for minimal muckying around myself)

--Long Timer (8 hours)

--Timer Self Shut Off

--Oscillating (for better heat distribution)

--Remote (for use in other rooms)

--Wider/heavier at bottom than top (for better stability)

--Slim & simple design to be as inconspicuous as possible

--Simple heat fan speeds (High/Low, again for least muckying)

--Price (close to $50)

I already had a HEPA air filter/ionizer in the space, so didn't need the filter function.

Other models I compared to had shorter timers, lower wattage, smaller size, no oscillators, and/or no remote.

SET UP: Received the box undamaged, opened and set it up. At under 6 lbs, the unit was light weight enough for little ol' me to pull out of box and stand without strain. ;-)

Handle on top / back is a generous size to be able to move the unit a few inches with a single hand.

Read instructions, plugged it in, turned on power, and the unit did what the instructions said. It started on high and read current room temperature at 63*F. Followed instructions to use buttons, then set C or F, target temp to 75*F, and oscillating on.

PERFORMANCE FIRST TWO DAYS: Very impressive. It began pumping solid heat on high. Within an hour it read 70*F in the space, and within two hours it read 73*F. Checking against another thermometer I had, it was only about a degree difference. Within 3 hours, it read 75*F and turned itself off for a bit. It's a large space, so I was pleasantly surprised. Concluded the time it took to get to 75* was a function of the inherent coldness and lack of insulation in the space, not of the heater output.

THINGS I NOTICED RIGHT AWAY:

--Be sure to have two AAA batteries handy when it arrives to install in remote. Unit ships without batteries.

--Heat output is clearly noticeable.

--Oscillating function makes no noise.

--It's the high fan setting that makes a moderate volume whir. Low fan noise is barely noticeable.

--Font size of the Temp display is large ~3/4" and easily readable, on both the unit and remote, so I don't have to use reading glasses.

--Remote is very light weight. It works from as much as 20' away, but main unit display needs to be facing where you/the remote are.

--Beeping happens for every press on both unit and remote, but it's a reasonable volume. Folks with sensitive sleeping children may want to really consider this. It'd be nice to have a High, Low, or Mute volume setting, but for the price and knowing this model didn't have one, it's acceptable.

OVERALL: Great unit, works well, as promised, and I'd definitely buy this Lasko again.

NOTE: I also ordered a DeLonghi comparable model for the master suite, and am awaiting shipment/receipt. It has had similar Top Tower reviews. Unlike this Lasko model, I ordered the DeLonghi TCH7690ER Safeheat

specifically for these functions I needed for the master bedroom space:

--Fan-Only function without heat for summer use summer

--24 hour timer

--Air/dust filter

--Tip over safety turn-off

Once received, I'll try to post a review of it.

Happy sleuthing!

This heater works perfectly. Some of the other reviews on here mention specific negatives, and I suggest that those people read the fine manual. For example:

Comment: "The Thermometer is inaccurate by a few degrees in most."

Correct. If you read the instruction manual, it states that the heater will heat two degrees above the thermostat setting, then switching off. It will switch on again when the temperature falls one degree below the thermostat setting. This is actually how most thermostats work.

Comment: "The power cable is thinner than what other leading safe room heaters have."

I am not sure what this means. A power cable's gauge (thickness) will be proportional to the current (amperage) by which it is engineered to draw. The thickness of the copper wiring does not correspond to safety, and would only become a safety issue if the thickness of the wire were not rated for the current of which the appliance draws. I would hope to assume that the engineers at Lasko are well aware of the very established standards for wire gauge versus current drawn, and without wasting my time analyzing the gauge of wire and the appliance's current, I'm going to assume that it's more than adequate.

Comment: "this tower fan will not heat a large room effectively."

Correct. The appliance is rated for medium sized rooms, as stated on the packaging.

Comment (paraphrased): "The thermostat (auto-temperature) only works on high."

This is incorrect. Please read the manual. Switching from high to low is also the mechanism by which you disengage the thermostat. If you switch from high to low, or from low to high, then you simply need to push the (+) or (-) thermostat buttons to re-engage the thermostat. The thermostat functions on both high and low.

Conclusion:

This heating appliances works great, and it functions in accordance with the manual. A recommended purchase.

1) My ORIGINAL REVIEW of this product (at that time I gave it four stars)

2) My LATER REVIEW (dropping to three stars)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

The main things I LIKE about this little heater are:

* It has quiet operation, and heats up a room very fast.

* I also like the design, it's simple and easy on the eyes, and like how lightweight it is. Even a two year old could lug this around without getting tired out.

* It has an easy-carry handle built in.

* It heats quickly and the oscillating feature distributes the heat nicely. It does an efficient job of turning electrical energy into heat.

The main thing I DISLIKE about it, which I'd imagine would be a major concern in a house with pets or small children, is that it doesn't turn off when knocked over. This could be extremely hazardous. It's not an issue for me because I place it in an area where it's not going to get knocked over. But if a friend with a young boisterous child dropped over, I would unplug it first. There's also a bit of a smell to the one I just bought today when it's in use, but I expect that's because it's new and it will burn off. The old one doesn't have a smell.

I also don't like that you have to use it on full power (1500 watts) to use the thermometer feature. I don't need that much heat and don't want to blow out a circuit breaker, so I prefer using it on the 750 watt setting...but that means I don't have the thermometer option. The easy timer feature does work in both modes, so I just set it for an hour and forget it. So this isn't a deal breaker for me.

By the way, I saved over $2000 last winter by using electric heaters in the coldest weather, instead of heating with oil. (That's not a typo... I saved over two grand.) The savings come from both the fact that electricity is currently cheaper than heating oil (which gets outrageously expensive), and, using small heaters allows a person to only heat the rooms that are in use. In the winter I use the furnace in the morning for ten minutes to take the chill off of the air, and in the evening for the same reason. I have these two Lasko heaters and two oil-filled heaters, which I use in various rooms in the house to keep it warm and toasty. It is a HUGE savings over the cost of oil. The house stays warm enough that I don't need a shirt or shoes, and I'm saving a huge amount of money in the process.

UPDATED REVIEW (November 20120

I'm changing my review from 4 stars to 3 stars.

A year after buying this model, I needed a second heater for another room, so I bought one with the same specs. Same name and model number. Should work well, right?

Wrong. The new one "looks" the same from a distance but are not identical. The new one is a little smaller and the color of the plastic casing is a little different. Evidently there was a redesign after I bought the first one, and different materials are being used.

If that was the only issue, I'd still be giving it four stars. (Last year's model still works great.) But the new one had severe problems. It worked twice, for a half hour or so each time. Then the third time I turned it on, it developed an extremely loud, obnoxious fan with a grinding sound, like the sound of a loud kitchen blender or food processor going full tilt. Not exactly a relaxing fan sound. I don't know if this is a one-time flaw, or if when Lasko did the redesign, they went with cheaper materials, like a cheap fan that would fall apart after being used one or two hours of use. Whatever --I took it back to Target, where I bought it, and got a refund.

It's a shame because the one I bought last year is still working well. But the new one got less than two hours of use out of it before going kaput.

While I can't say for sure, I suspect that the problem is that Lasko went with cheaper materials this time round. It saves them a few dollars but at the cost of consumers dealing with problems after purchasing it. Or maybe it was just a fluke and I got one with a bad fan. But it's made me cautious about buying from Lasko again.

Honest reviews on Lasko 5165 Digital Ceramic Tower Heater with Remote Control

I have two Lasko remote towers Model 5538 from 2010 or 2011 that still work without a problem. Purchased two Lasko Ceramic Heaters, Model 5165 from Target in November 2012. I paid $49.99 plus 8% tax for each device for a total of $I07.98. plugged one unit in and noticed it began to make a noise. After one week I noticed the cord began to over heat when in the HI position. It eventually overheated and melted the electrical outlet. I immediately removed the cord and contacted Target to let them know this device is defective. I will also contact Lasko via email.

This product NEEDS TO BE REMOVED from the market BEFORE IT BURNS SOMEONE'S HOME DOWN. If left unattended, the electrical outlet will overheat causing internal wiring to catch fire in homes that do not have AFCI breakers or outlets. AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters) outlets will short the wiring before it catches fire. Most homes built prior to 2010, do not have these upgraded breaker panels or wall outlets.

I took a photos of the burnt cord, the ceramic heater, original box and the damaged outlet. Did not see a manufactured date on the product or instruction manual. I immediately contacted the store, explained the problem, then contacted Lasko. I returned the products for a full refund, as I was too scared to try the second unit and gave Lasko 7 days to respond to my email.

It took me to contact cpsc.gov or Saferproducts.gov for Lasko to leave me a message. I place several calls to reach Lasko consumer complaints. The employee did not immediately return my telephone call. When I spoke to him, he was more concerned with getting his hands on the product, asking for the telephone number to the store to have them retun those units to Lasko. Then he tried to blame me, telling me I needed to upgrade the wiring in my home to accomodate these heaters. Really? If that is the case, a warning should be clearly posted on the outside of the box advising the public that if they do not have AFCI breakers and recepticles in their home, do not use or purchase these heaters. If you buy or own this heate, "Don't let FIRE be your interior decorator."

Review of Factory-Reconditioned BISSELL 7901R Powersteamer Proheat Clearview

Factory-Reconditioned BISSELL 7901R Powersteamer Proheat Clearview Plus Upright Deep Cleaner
Customer Ratings: 2.5 stars

A couple of years ago we took our carpets out and refinished the 50 year old hardwood floors on the main level of the house. The floor below we kept the carpet because of the concrete slab. I had an old bissel steam cleaner (round model) from 15 years back that was dying out. We now have a 1 year old maltese that is not nessarily fully potty trained, so we needed to upgrade our cleaner. A neighbor had the 7901 model and we used it a couple of times and it worked wonders. I wanted to purchase one but not at the full price in the store. I ended up buying the factory reconditioned model and am very pleased with it. It really cleans and extracts the water from the rug. I use the separate attachments in my cars and it works much better than the bissel little green. I have not tried any other models or brands because I have been pleased with bissel in the past. All in all it has been a great purchased.

We put the steamer to work the day it arrived, and were completely satisfied with its performance. We have purchased new steamers in the past, and there was no discernable difference between them and the reconditioned model we purchased from Amazon. Try one. You'll like it!

Best Deals on Factory-Reconditioned BISSELL 7901R Powersteamer Proheat Clearview

My factory-reconditioned Bissell works just fine. I do agree that the "turbo brush" doesn't really do anything, however.

I have used my steamer about once a month since I bought it last summer (2004), and I have never had any problems with it. I even use a natural cleaner in it so that I don't put chemicals into my carpet that could harm my son, and that has not caused any problems either.

I do recommend that you perform the maintenance listed in the booklet because I see how problems could occur without proper maintenance, and it doesn't take a lot of effort to maintain this machine (mostly just rinsing off pieces that pop in and out). The most "difficult" task I have had in maintaining this machine was to unscrew the front of the unit to remove carpet fibers that had been sucked inside. It took less than 3 minutes total to do this.

I have not tried it on hard floors.

I really like this machine, and I recommend it!!

Honest reviews on Factory-Reconditioned BISSELL 7901R Powersteamer Proheat Clearview

It worked great for about 6 cleanings. After about 6 cleanings over the past year the Bissell Pro cleaners water bucket no longer seated very well. The suction dropped off to about 50% and I had to put weight on the bucket in order to suck up the water. That fix worked but then the REALLY CHEAP floor attachments broke. Yes, just when I needed it most to clean my stairs, the THIN and poorly designed floor suction attachment broke and would not spray water very well and it started leaking air where it cracked. It's been too long to get a refund so I'm throwing this one away and am going to try a hoover. I'm in my 40s and can work my way around most mechanical problems but I can't thicken cheap plastic parts. Bissell, your product engineers need to be fired!

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Factory-Reconditioned BISSELL 7901R Powersteamer Proheat Clearview

To keep the long story short: I own it for 6+ months, it works Ok for carpets to remove stains when using hand tool (get ready for hard work). Standard mode does not do much as well as TurboBrush works for marketing purposes only. As for hardfloor cleaning this thing fails miserably (bare floor attachemnt does not help much eaither).

As for chemicals look for other brands. Bissel cleaning solutions are useless. I've tried Pink Solution and it works well, but remember to use hot water for SmartMix Tank on the last run otherwise this chemical may cloak the system. Scotchgard is a joke carpets stay cleaner without it.

On the positive side it is powerful and I really like the water tank idea easy to replace and clean.

I bought this heater for my front room where I teach music lessons. That room has always been hard to heat, but now it's easy to get it nice and cozy in there. The room is about 400 square feet and within about 30 minutes after turning on this nice little heater, the room starts filling up with warmth. I'm so glad that it's stylish and doesn't look awkward in my front room like other space heaters would. I also love how safe it is, the top and sides don't get hot and even the grill where the heat comes out doesn't get hot enough to burn. I found out when a baby was visiting yesterday, she reached out and touched it then pulled her hand away quick, but it didn't leave a mark and she didn't even cry.

Review of The AirFlow Breeze Home Heating/Cooling System (Brown) (Fits 4"W x

The AirFlow Breeze Home Heating/Cooling System
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

I ordered this product for our upstairs bedroom vent to help cool the room. The thermostat to control the fan speed is a great idea, but ours doesn't consistently run only when the AC kicks on. When it does run, it's not exactly quiet and kind of annoying. However, we do manage to sleep through it fine. Overall though, I gave this product only 2 stars because it doesn't force that much more cold air into the room. It would also be helpful if the vent slats were directional. Running the fan function by itself (not with the AC) produces no extra cold air, only air movement.

After purchasing one, I hoped it would work at least okay to purchase another for my upstairs office. Instead, I'm shelling out the money for a free standing AC unit. I'd advise you to do the same if you want cold air.

In my situation, the AirFlow Breeze register booster really works. The product looks great you don't even notice it's different from a regular vent cover. My spare bedroom/craft room was always a little too stuffy and a little too cold depending on the season. Now, I can enter that room for a little quiet time and never notice the temperature difference. Thank you AirFlow you have made my problem room manageable!

Effective but extremely noisy. I had to pull out the cheap and noisy fans and replace them with good ones (Noctua). After the replacement (and extra $30) the booster works fine.

I bought the AirFlow Breeze because the upstairs rooms in my townhome were always 8-10 degrees warmer than the down stairs rooms. The problem was the AC fans were not getting the air into room. After adding the Airflow Breeze I noticed an immediate difference. I would reccomend for anyone who needs to force more air into a room that is either too hot or cold.

Good/tough heater for small spaces. Used it to heat up an outdoor cabinet in freezing temperatures. It often ran continuously for days.

I purchased this space heater about 2 years ago for my office. This is by far the best space heater I have ever used. I've had absolutely no problems with this space heater. It works as well as it did when I first purchased it! I highly recommend this product.

I bought this heater about 1.5 months ago. It worked great for the first three weeks, and I was quite happy with it, but after that time it started making an annoying rattling sound when it started up. The sound would gradually go away over about 1 minute. Now, the rattling sound stays on the entire time the heater is on. Coincidentally, my roommate bought the same exact heater and hers does the exact same thing. Oh, and mine started sparking (!) lately too. That was the last straw; it went right back to the store for a refund today. Don't buy this heater unless you like being annoyed by cheap crappy products.

WE used this model for years and years, then it finally died after a series of power outages and brown outs. So we went on a search to find this exact same model because we like how this one works out of all the others. This is one of the safest, and most effective space heaters I have used. It gets approved by our Higher Education Safety committee every time. Great product, keep up the good work!
