A year ago I got into a bit of a "emergency preparedness" mode, and among other things, bought one of these devices, installed it in my water heater pan and then forgot all about it.

At 12:30 a.m. a couple of nights ago, an alarm began ringing. I had no idea what it was, except that it wasn't a smoke detector (not as loud as that) but after wandering around the house for a bit, I followed the sound to the basement and found a small amount of water in the water heater pan. The alarm turned off as soon as I pulled the sensors out of the water.

It was soon obvious this was no small leak. Over the next 12 hours until we got the water heater replaced, we easily bailed 30 or more gallons of water out of the bin we placed to catch the overflow from the pan.

Had the alarm not sounded, it could have been 24 hours or more before the leak was noticed. The basement storage room where the water heater is located, and the adjoining (carpeted) rec room would have been flooded, requiring a major effort to dry them out and damage/destruction of a number of items. Drying out the basement to prevent mold would have required the rental of some high-powered dehumidifiers (been there, done that).

This item did exactly what it was supposed to do. After reading some of the reviews indicating some lack of reliability, I may well install a couple of extras in the basement as backup, and putting some in other locations, such as under/near the washing machine, under sinks, and under the dishwasher, seems like a good idea.

Important tip learned during the water heater replacement:

The expansion tank intalled with the water heater has a shorter life span than the heater itself, and when it fails, the pressure from expansion of heating water then causes damage to the water heater tank itself, shortening its life. To test whether the expansion tank has failed, tap along the side of the tank starting from the bottom. There should be a noticeable change of pitch between the bottom (which contains the bladder full of water) and the top, which should contain air. If it sounds the same all the way up, the bladder has failed and the entire expansion tank has filled with water, preventing it from doing its job of relieving pressure in the water heater tank. Replacing the expansion tank is much cheaper than replacing both it and the heater, and may keep your heater going for years longer.

The Water Alarm also has a 6-foot sensor wire, so that you can extend the sensor into a sump pump, or the alarm will sound before water spills out onto the floor. The alarm plugs into the wall plus has a 9 Volt battery backup. We use ours for the sump pump & it works wonderfully!

When the alarm goes off...we pull up on the sump pump floater string & the sump pump starts right away and the alarm turns off right away.

The alarm is loud. Our house is a ranch style, a bit over 1,100 sq ft...the sump pump is in the basement...opposite corner than our bedrooms on the main floor...I could still hear the alarm going off in the middle of the night.

This item works as it says it will, I'd purchase this item again. We purchased our's at a major hardware store in our area for about $10

Why is this better than Leak Frog:

1) 5-yr run time on each battery, provided that battery's expiry date is not earlier than that. Leak Frog? 1 yr. Maybe 2~3 yrs if you use Li batteries (my assumption only see my Leak Frog comment).

2) $9.95 @ my local hardware store and this is widely available. Leak Frog? Almost $15 now and seems like it's Amazon's exclusive offering.

3) Audibly louder than Leak Frog.

4) No screwdriver needed for battery compartment door, Leak Frog needs screwdriver to access that supposedly annually too! I dislike.

5) Slender form factor makes it easier to snug in underneath fridge and dishwasher.

6) Remote (if desired) sensor placement within 6' makes it super versatile. I inserted this remote sensor far deep underneath my fridge with ease. Leak Frog? Where it is located is where it senses.

7) Less toyish look I didn't pay a premium for the latest stainless appliances so that I can place a green toy there in plain sight. I wish that the Watchdog was black (or stainless) and smaller than this, but this is still acceptable.

8) 5-yr manufacturer's warranty. Leak Frog's 1 yr.

9) Leak Frog maker seems to be a one hit wonder. This one's mother company makes a wide assortment of other basement flood prevention goodies. This seems more pro.

I already own 4 Leak Frogs & now 2 Watchdogs, I still need at least 2 more water alarms, I'll get the Watchdog from now on...

Honest reviews on Glentronics, Inc. BWD-HWA Basement Watchdog Water Sensor and Alarm

I bought 2 of these from Lowe's today for $13.58 (model BWD-HWA). Each requires a 9 volt battery, has a 6 foot sensor wire and a 5 year warranty, although no guarantee it will work. It can stand alone or be attached to a wall with the sensor wire extended. The sensor wire can be spliced up to 100 feet, if you supply the wire. It's also claimed that the alarm sounds up to 3 days.

This thing needs to be in a puddle of water (1/32" minimum) to work because it has 2 sensors on the bottom that need electrical current flow between them the water being the conductor. It's not going to sense drops of water, but it should work in a flood situation where water is covering the floor.

I tested the ones I bought and they do work in a puddle, but the alarm needs to be a bit louder. It claims to be 110 decibels, and if that's true, then it's louder than most similar alarms.

It has a constant (non beeping) high pitch sound similar to a smoke detector but not nearly as loud. It can be heard if not too far away, but to be effective, it should be heard everywhere in the house and waken you while asleep. So depending on your hearing, the size of your house and where you are when it sounds, it may work well for you. However, none of these devices work if you can't hear them.

Should one of these devices fail, it would be wise to place more than one where a lot of flooding could occur and cause major damage to your house. Where your washing machine is located is a prime candidate.

I installed this in my sump pump basin. Over the winter condensation collected to the extent that it set off the alarm. This happened twice. The contacts should have been designed to dangle separately from a support. The support collected the moisture causing the two contacts to complete the alarm's circuit.

There is no switch to turn off the alarm so while it is screaming LOUDLY you have to take the battery out. I don't know why it didn't stop after I dried the moisture from the contacts.

There is a major flaw in the design of the Honeywell Whole Room Heater HZ-725. The heater is triggered to shut down completely when it overheats and you cannot reset it yourself. Honeywell recommends you have an electrician check out your electrical system when this occurs. Your only option is to return the heater to Honeywell at your expense plus an additional fee. Honeywell will then reset/repair and return the heater to you.

This heater worked for me for less than one week before completely shutting down. There was nothing I could do to get it started again. My home's electrical system with 3-prong plug outlets was in perfect working order when this occurred.

The problem with returning the heater to Honeywell for repair when this problem occurs is when you get it back from Honeywell, won't the same thing just happen all over again?

It is not my fault the heater triggered overheat; it is the fault of the heater and Honeywell. It is not my fault I cannot reset the heater when it triggers overheat; it is the fault of the heater design and Honeywell.

Do not make the mistake of buying this heater. BEWARE!

Worked really well for 2 months, and then stopped. The company (KAZ) sent a replacement, which again stopped working after 2 months. Save yourself time and money don't buy it...

The short review:

Worked great for a month, then it overheated and wouldn't turn on. Apparently, once it overheats, the on/off switch will melt shut, forcing you to either send it in or trash it for a new one. Quality of this heater is low.

The long(er) review:

I bought this heater at a local store, not on Amazon.com, but the review still stands. It worked great for the majority of the winter. Heats a small room fairly quickly on the highest heat setting, but it has no digital display to set an exact temperature setting. It also does not heat the floor, unlike cheaper, similar units. If you leave the heater on overnight, you run the risk of melting the on/off switch into the off position. This can be fixed, but you only have 2 choices if you want to fix it.

1) Send the heater in to Kaz/Honeywell, let them force you to pay $10 to fix the heater, along with postage paid by you and be out of heat for a few days/weeks OR

2) Open it up, voiding the warranty, and fix it yourself.

I chose option 2 and after cleaning off the melted plastic (!!) inside the switch (!!), the heater works once again. It's not easy, but who can complain about a working heater?

Update: 6/2/2011

We've had a few weird months of weather here and I had to use the heater a few times. On one of those days with abnormally cold weather, this heater decided to quit and wouldn't work, no matter how much poking and prodding I did to the switch. I finally bypassed the switch altogether and got the heater to work again.

Bad bad bad design.

Honest reviews on Honeywell Whole Room Heater, 18 x 18 x 19 1/2, Gray (HZ-725)

The header works great... until it triggers its overheat flaw and never works again. I guess I triggered that overheat flaw mentioned a few times in other reviews (which doesn't make any sense since I had it on a fairly low heat setting at the time). And like everybody else, I can't fix the problem myself. All it does now is uselessly take up space in my room. So my options are now (1) spend money I don't have on a new heater in mid-March right before the weather starts to get warm again or (2) wait out the cold weather for a little bit longer and save my money. Either way, I'm not buying another Honeywell heater ever again. I bought this heater in January and now on March 14th it no longer works.

This heater might work well in a smaller, enclosed room, but it did absolutely nothing for my open dining room. One of its flaws is that the heat is emitted from the top, so if you're trying to get your feet warm (Important! helps your whole body warm up), you're out of luck, as the top of the heater is about two feet off the floor. Also, I don't know if it's just a personal preference of mine or if there really is a difference in efficacy, but heaters that BLOW as opposed to those that just RADIATE seem to warm me, and the room, more quickly and efficiently.

As for the other reviewers mentioning that theirs broke after a short period of time, I'm not even going to comment on that, as I've only had mine for a day. But between the shortcomings I've noticed myself and those I've read about, I'm not going to take any chances. This thing is getting returned as soon as I can get it back into the box. I only wish I'd read the reviews before I purchased.

We bought this to heat our steel products up prior to painting them and this little guy did the trick. Heats things up in a hurry and saves us in dry time after painting. It really blast the heat out, but keeps the flames totally contained. Great design. Definitely would recommend this for heating a pretty good size area in a hurry.

I got the heater over 2 weeks ago. The heater itself I would give 5 stars. The heater works just as advertised. The variable btu control works good and the thermostat does a good job of controlling on / off to maintin a good working temperature in my garage. Now the bad part. The propane hose that is supplied with the unit is junk! It is like a recoil spring that will not straighten out even when warmed. So bad that I will be replacing it with a better quality hose. I wrote to Mr. Heater over a week ago giving them a chance to make it right. I asked them to send me a better quality hose. Not even an email reply, And of course, no hose. If I had to rate the hose separately it would not get any stars. If you want a good heater, by all means buy this one but be prepared to replace the hose.

This is a awesome heater for what I needed. I puts out ton of heat. You must be careful with it as you would any heater especially a forced air heater. The temp control is awesome and it ran for quite some time with a 20lb cylinder. I ran (seemingly) forever on a 100lb cylinder. Would certainly recommend this product for anyone needing a portable heat source.

It is nice and light, not too big and works great. The controls work good and are easy to use. It will go through a 20 lbs cylinder, on the lowest setting, in less than 8 hours. It works good and has a lot less stink than a kerosene unit.

I have a home office in an attic that's sun-baked in the summer and drafty in the winter, and this powerful heater/air conditioner can quickly bring the space to a comfortable temperature year-round.

Unfortunately, the unit is quite loud. The AC fan (which runs continuously even when the compressor is off) is so loud I have to turn it off when making a phone call. And the heater (which turns off completely when not in a heating cycle) makes such a jarring noise when it comes on that I jump out of my seat every time. Since the AC noise is more constant, it wouldn't be a problem if it were further from my desk, but if I had this in a bedroom there's no way I'd be able to sleep with that heater noise. (Update: after using this for a year, I rarely notice the sound of the heater turning on in my office setting.)

Also, despite the unit being marketed as not needing a water tank or drain for air conditioning, it does occasionally leak water onto the floor. Placing a cookie sheet or an improvised aluminum foil pan underneath is an easy solution, but it took me a while to notice what was happening.

Despite these concerns, I'd buy the same unit again due to its environmental features. The dual-hose design makes it more efficient, and the coolant doesn't harm the ozone layer. Unless the noise would be a problem in your situation, I'd recommend it.

I live in San Jose, California and we tend to have a few periods of warm weather (90 degrees and above). I purchased this unit to replace the other AC I had in my living room/kitchen area. This AC is put together very well (I'm girl challenged when it comes to DIY projects). In the past I had AC's where the hoses didn't fit right and here comes the duct tape. This one I didn't need to use any duct tape! Everything fit it perfectly, you can tug and pull on the hoses and their not coming out of their socket. My window size is larger than normal so I had to purchase the extended window kit, which I found on Amazon. The AC has a nice sleek look, kinda looks like a computer server :)

I turned the AC on and it was a breath of fresh air. Within 40 minutes my whole living room and kitchen were cool, at about 74 degrees when it was about 85 degrees outside. Amazing! My other AC unit would only slightly cool the living room and the heat/exhaust coming from the back end of the unit would sometimes interfere with the cooling capabilities of the machine. Not this one! The back side of it isn't extremely hot to the touch and same with the hoses, meaning the machine is running very efficiently. I even had the oven on and it didn't phase this machine. I actually had to turn it the fan lower because I started to get cold.

Others mentioned that it is noisy. I didn't notice the sound too much, but then again the sound of a fan is soothing to me.

The manufacturer did a fantastic job of packaging this machine and UPS did a great job of ensuring the product got safely to my house. The unit is heavy, but it has wheels and glides easily around my hardwood floors. I'm a very happy customer! I would definitely recommend this AC to anyone.

This has been a very hot summer and I was going to be scared to look at the next electric bill........man I was very surprised it only went up $30.00 and this cooler was ran from 7am to 9pm every day! Rated up to 500 sf but it hold it own in keeping a larger area fairly cool, upper 70's but a lot better then the 110+ out side and the 90+ was the coolest that the swamp cooler could do during the day in my elderly fathers home. Very easy to operate as my father does not do electronics or computers very well. There will be a extra bonus now that this has a heater on it for the winter will be able to get rid of the small costly space heaters that he likes to use. This is a great buy for your money.

Honest reviews on Whynter 14,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner with Heater

I got this in the mail after doing research for a week straight. I think I know everything there is to know about every type of AC out there. I bought a new house with no AC and its been 90+ since we moved in. AC was priority #1 which is why I spent so long researching. 4-5 hours a day reading anything any everying related.

The issue I have is my whole first floor is one open layout with 25ft vaulted ceilings. 15x25 living room attached to a 15x15 kitchen with a WIDE opening between the two so the AC Had to do both of those rooms and the Height I thought would be a problem given the ceilings were soooo high. Add those two plus a little walkway and open stair case and were talking about 1200 sq ft plus the high ceilings.

Soooo.. I got it in the mail last night and waited 4 hours to plug in as the manual says you should do incase the shipped put it on its side. If they handle it wrong and you plus it right in you will damage the product for good. Setup pipes vertically and used carboard to jimmy rig the extra length I didnt have in the window kit.Ill fix this permanently later. Read the manual and turned it on... Disappointment ... I felt the temp coming out and the speed and thought there was NO way this was going to cool this whole area.

Cleaned up the boxes and said to my wife this thing gets one chance over night. If it doesnt work I am returning it the next day. It was on for two hours while I cleaned up and ate dinner and felt no change so I was really expecting it to now work. I locked up the house. closed all the doors , windows, any thing that would seal the room as much as possible and went up stairs to bed. Again couldnt be more disappointed and upset at this point thinking im an idiot and should have listened to negative reviews.

Woke up this morning and opened my door which is 25 feet up looking down on the living room and a gust of 60-65 degree air hit me in the face... I was shocked it cooled that high up with no other fans helping. Walked down stairs and my place was freezing when it was 85 when I went to bed. Not only that but not one drop of water in the tank so it evaporated it all. Now overnight the temps cooled which helped and the sun will wreak havoc today so I too the intake hose and unhooked it so it would be pulling in cold air from inside the house and cooling it rather than cooling the hot air outside and making it work over time. When I get home today I think the place will be nice and cool even after the sun came out because the house is sealed up and the unit is pulling 65 degreed air from inside the house and spitting it out freezing cold into an already conditioned room. Had I left the intake out I think it wouldn't cool as well during the day pulling 95 degree air.

Long story short, be patient and let the unit catch up with itself and the temps. Dont judge it.My room couldn't have been any worse for this thing to cool and it did its job like a champ. Also use the intake hose properly. Its not ALWAYS good to have it pull air from outside. Sometimes you can optimize the performance by adjusting what air the unit conditions. Right now its pulling inside air but when I go home and sun goes goes and temps get better out side ill put the intake hose back on . Hope this helps.

Im going to try and post a photo of my living room from the bedroom 25 ft up so buyers can see what this thing was capable of.

Before I got this carpet cleaner, I bought the cordless Bissell Spot Lifter. I sent the Spot Lifter back because it would work only 5 minutes before you had to recharge the battery (12 hours). Even though Little Green isn't cordless, it is small and lightweight and works incredibly well.

We had old pet stains on our cream colored carpeting and since we got the Little Green, we've been able to get all of them up from the carpet. Whenever our dog creates other messes, we're able to take the cleaner out right away and clean it up without having to go through too many steps to get the Little Green ready for use. I would recommend this to anyone, especially those with pets and small children -I don't know why I didn't get this months before -its made a huge difference in the look of our carpet and well worth the price.

As others have stated it works well when it works. I was really happy with the way it cleaned. I especially liked the turbo brush. But when I went to use it for only the second time the sprayer wouldn't work a frequent complaint I understand. You don't have to be particularly handy to fix it. You need a screw driver, a pair of pliers and a paper clip. Unplug the machine. Take the four screws from the top out. Pull the top up. Underneath you will see a black box with 4 screws undo. Underneath the cover is heater box. Lift up and undo the 5 screws on the bottom. You will see what is causing the problem. You don't need to disconnect the wires. Release the clamps holding the plastic tubes with the pliers and gently remove the tubes. Use the paper clip, opened, to clean out the holes in the heater. It did not take long at all.

Folks, it isn't so much a design flaw, rather its as much a problem with the chemistry. Jets only get clogged if soap solutions are too concentrated, the water used is dirty, or some chemistry conspires to build up lime or sludge.

I have a proheat clearview upright... used it for over 3 years now. Noticed the spray wasn't as zippy for the past two years as I seemed to recall when we first bought it. Tonight, it wouldn't spray at all. Thought: bad belt, but the belt was fine. Thought: clogged sprayers (these are a bit larger than on your model), but they both were fine. Traced the lack of pressure all the way to the heater block in the neck of the beast. Called Bissell and a really nice rep kindly told me they aren't allowed to sell me that heater block. Something about insurance (blame your neighbors who are all to happy to sue at the drop of a hat -none of us here are that shallow, are we?)

Anyway -one of you told the story of the repair guy taking the heater apart. I never would have thought they made the thing servicable -but sure enough! I removed the heater carefully, marking all of the wire colors and which hose was which, flipped it over to find 7 screws holding a bottom plate. Carefully removed them so as not to damage the silicon seal or the 5 littel o-rings, took a toothbrush and scrubbed the soap goo out of the channels... one of the nozzles was choked closed, but a pipe cleaner and some patience got it looking nearly new. Carefully screwed it back together, tightening evenly -rebuilt the beast and it's cleaning like it hasn't in years. Probably piss off Bissell service shops by telling this, but maybe the handier of you will benefit.

Honest reviews on BISSELL Little Green ProHeat Turbo Carpet Cleaner, 1425B

After doing my research into carpet cleaners, I bought the bissell little green pro heat thinking that it looked like a great product. The heating option sounded great to me, hot water meant cleaner results right? Well, After having it for only one year, I have had to have it REPAIRED THREE TIMES! And after getting to watch the repairman take it apart and fix it he showed me exactly what was wrong with it. There is a metal box that the water passes through to heat it and if you use any soap in the water, the soap gets too hot and gums it up. Whe the repairman opened this box up, it was full of jelly like goo. This clogs up the sprayer, and you get no spray. It has to be taken completly apart to be fixed. It is VERY FRUSTRAITING! This happened three times to me, even after making sure I used only clean, filtered, plain water. The repairman said that he has had to repair several with the same problem. I suggest you buy another brand, or one without the heater. It has only been a source of frustration!

My husband is not the "chore type" so when he came home with this machine and set it up, I assumed he would leave it for me to do the actual work of cleaning up the many spots on our carpet. Imagine my surprise when he spent the next hour on his knees searching out every little stain and spill he could find in our four bedroom house -and attacking it. It truly is satisfying to see those stains disappear (even the oldest ones) with so little effort. For some time, I had been loath to call the carpet cleaners, since all they really do is pitch unwanted services, and, since their last visit, we had owned two dogs in rapid succession. You can imagine. Then there was the miracle it worked on the carpet areas of my minivan that aren't covered by mats. It even got the red drink up. I'm sold!

I have the Nutone 9114NT, which is exactly the same unit. I can almost feel heat when I am dry, but due to wind chill, after I towel off and stand in front of it, it feels cold! I record 112.5V and 10.62 amps, so I'm actually getting 1200W. At the grill, I have 300F, but the air very quickly mixes with ambient air and by the time it gets out from under the kickspace overhang, it is a degree above ambient. (Fortunately, I bought mine at a steep discount, since the the unit is discontinued under the Nutone name)

Warms the room and the floor tile so showering or bathing is sooo comfy now! Would definately buy again, in fact, we now have two!!

Honest reviews on Broan Model 112 Kickspace Heater with Built-In Thermostat, White

I already had an under cabinet heater in our kitchen and replaced it with this unit. Installation was easy and it functions well. One thing to note (and a very small thing) when you have the cover off to connect the wiring, I recommend giving the upper panel a little tweak. I had an annoying rattle that ended up being the large upper (sheet metal) panel that would resonate with a small "oil can" effect when the heater reached full temperature. Putting a small tweak in the top added just enough stress to the top to take out the rattle.

Using the model with the internal thermostat allowed me to use the existing wiring without having to add a wall thermostat.

It doesn't need a "sock" or cover, as it never gets quite warm enough to risk burns. It doesn't hold heat when exposed to cold air, but kept in a pocket it keeps things nice and toasty.

MicroUSB cables and AC->USB adaptors are ubiquitous, so I can charge it pretty much anywhere. I got mine last year, and after the summer in storage it still works fine. My only complaint is that it can only warm up one pocket at a time, so I may invest in a second one.

Honest reviews on Sunpentown Portable Electric Hand Warmer

I was a little hesitant on getting an electric hand warmer. However, when I got this I was more than pleased. Great quality and the battery lasts a long time on high (6.5 hrs). It felt good in my pants pocket on a New Jersey winters night! I am getting another one and attaching it to a belt that will go o n my back near my kidneys to keep me really warm!

This does not give off enough heat to warm anything. I had it on "high" setting and it barely worked in the house, much less outside in the cold.

Pretty easy to assemble so that was cool. It is considerably smaller than I imagined it would be. Manufacturer claims that it makes realistic crackling sounds which it does not. The sound is distinctly electric, like a hum or whine. I expected a lot more. I was pretty disappointed with it once it was all put together. I also have not figured out how to change the temperature. The "fireplace" maintains a constant 72 degrees in my experience. It also is not nearly as bright as I would have expected. I thought I would be able to illuminate a small room with it set on the higher settings. The flames flicker nicely, but it's just too dim. Decent quality craftsmanship. I would spend more money on a nicer/larger unit in retrospect, and possible go with one of the actual flame types instead of an electric version.

I love the look of this fireplace when it is off. Although small, it is cozy and adorable. However, it looks incredibly tacky and cheesy when lit as the flame is just a photo of a flame. There is no electric fire. I want to return mine.

Review of Oster Power Bather

I was hesitant about buying this item because it was expensive. I am glad I splurged and purchased this item. It makes bathing my dogs an easy quick process. I have two dogs (border collie and german shepherd). It takes me approx. 10 minutes to shampoo, condition, and rinse each dog. You don't even have to use your hands to scrub the dirt with a towel. This device has a high pressure hose( you can adjust the pressure) that get down in between the dog's skin and fur and lifts out the dirt. It does it in a massage like way. My dogs love the sensation because they are still and seem to be relaxed while I am doing it.

How it works? You simply place the pump in a tub or a sink where you are planning on bathing the dog. You run about two-three inches of water. Sit the pump in the water and turn it on. There is also an air controlled foot pump where you step on it to turn it off or on. The pump keep recirculating the water to clean the dog. I simply add a capful of shampoo to the water and the pump mixes it and sucks it up to the high pressure hose. When I am finished shampooing I let the water out and put clean water to rinse thoroughly.

I hated giving my dogs a bath and this pump makes everything so much easier. It is expensive but I think with use over time it would make up the costs.

This is the same bathing system I used in the grooming shop I owned years ago, without the attached blow dryer. I was so happy to see its still available. This would be ideal for a small, relatively low volume shop. Dogs love the way it feels!

Its compact size but puts out enough heat to keep 2 large rooms and 1 small room warm. I like the fact that it doesn't get hot to the touch so it's safe for the grandkids and the dogs.

I bought these heaters about a month and a half ago. The fan on one of them stopped working and smelled like it was burning. Contacted seller on Amazon who said they only have a 30 day warranty through them but there is a 3 year warranty through the manufacturer. Contacted the manufacturer who told me they would send me out a new fan and I would need to install it myself. I replaced the fan that they sent me and the heater still did not work. The 3 year warranty is only for parts, they do not replace or fix the unit itself unless you pay to ship it to them and back. There is a reason they only sell these heaters online and not in stores. I'm now stuck with a useless piece of junk.

I researched these heaters for a month before we settled on this pair. I am very happy with our purchase. We have had them a month now and we have used them, sometimes both at the same time and sometimes, just one, most nights and all weekends. My heat bill went up $50 which would have happened with the furnace that rarely came on. The big plus, besides the reasonable cost to run is the level of warmth. I can now feel comfortable in sweats without having to layer up so much. Glad we bought the two pack!

Obviously, 5100 watts is 5100 wattsIf you are trying to heat a 1200 square foot barn you will not be happy regardless of product because of the porosity and massive heat loss at low temps. On the other hand, if you have a well-insulated 1200 square foot space these little heaters will be fabulous. They are easy to set up and easy to control with the handy remotes. Understand the settings before complaining about how they work. You are NOT reading room temperature. A separate accurate thermometer will give you that info. Well designed, easy to look at and use.

I took a chance that this would fit my 30 year old heater. Work's fine, fast shipping. I was a little dissapointed that it did not come with an installation wrench, more of a problem with getting the old one out than inserting the new. A little WD40 was a big help.

unit is used as a supplement heat source in basement and so far it works excellent, thermostat control will shut unit off and back on and this heater requires no electricity. It will be excellent for a ice storm when it knocks the power out for days.

Kozy World Heater works great for my shop and supplemental heat for the house if the electric goes out since it is either propane for natural gas. I think it will be well worth the money.

Amazon was great to work with you on your order and Kozy World was great about the shipping.

I would definitely buy from them again.

It is all that we expected. Does a nice job. We have an earlier model Kozy World that is dedicated to propane and this duel fuel model will prove a good investment when natural gas becomes available.

In my opinion, DeLonghi oil-filled portable radiators are one of the best options for safe, reliable room heating. There is nothing to spill, no open flames, and nothing gets so hot that it would burn you instantly. You don't have to fear falling asleep while they are heating. They're nicely designed and unobtrusive, making no noise other than the occasional tick or pop as the thermostat cycles and they heat up or cool down. I find this a comforting reminder that my heater is doing its job. No assembly is required other than rotating the feet out--just pop it out of the box and it's ready to go! The cord has a holder around which it can coil, eliminating the need to tie it up, and since you just wind the cord around it, you don't have to worry that some automatic retraction device will get stuck. This model can be used with the thermostat or without, and both are very simple to operate. All controls were easy to see, even in dim light, and the instructions were clear. It's very easy to move the heater from room to room, even if it is hot, using the little hand-hold. This heater kept a very large bedroom and bath pleasantly warm even on the low setting, while outside temperatures were 36 to 43 degrees, wet, and windy. The color is a tasteful grayish white with dark gray accents, so don't be turned off thinking this is "refrigerator white." I would definitely buy another DeLonghi like this one!

Last year I had 1 that only heated 3 rooms and one room closed off, set on 3 all Winter long, This year I purchased a 2nd one and all rooms are open and heaters are set on 2 and in November we had 19 days in the upper teens & chill factor was in the range of 20* below zero. Comparing my electric bills Nov. '09 and '10, my power bill was $33.00

lower, only $56.00 in my all electric apartment of 978 sq.ft. I am not cold, I sit in front of my PC in shorts & a t-shirt, shoes & socks. You won't be disappointed. The 1st DeLonghi heater is 7 yrs old & still works just fine, its a name that can be trusted. These heaters work better & cheaper than an a/c heat pump or baseboard heaters, I know. I live 6665' above sea level in Nevada and it does get cold & windy. A secret, "buy yourself a 6" desk-fan and set it behind a heater on the floor too warm a room 18' square, works wonders." I have 2 cats and they sleep in front of their own heater now, they have never been burnt. I am 76 yr old male. Try them, you can't go wrong...

Received this in the mail today. So far I'm pretty impressed. At first I was a bit puzzled regarding the instructions and all the switches and dials this thing has but once I figured out how it worked it was easy.

I'm using this to heat up a room that is approximately 10ftx20ft, and this room has a glass sliding door on one wall, and four anderson windows all together on the other two walls (the fourth wall connects to the house). The room does have a very small (about 5ft long) baseboard radiator but it barely heats the room properly.

I have this connected to a Lux WIN100 Heating & Cooling Programmable Outlet Thermostat, and it works great. I have it set at 76F and while the middle of the room (where this radiator is placed, dead center) stays at 76F the one side of the room stays at 74.5F (where the sliding door is, and it's 55F outside right now) and the other side 75.5F which is acceptable. I do have a ceiling fan in the room on low but I may need to add a floor fan in there to help circulate the air better and keep the temperature more even throughout the room.

Oh, and I have it set on medium power and it's doing the job quite well. It was able to heat a room stuck at 67-68F to 76F in just a few hours. Almost ten degrees...pretty good IMO. I was reluctant to set it at max power (the full 1500watts) over concern it may pop a circuit breaker. Setting at medium power (1,000watts I believe?) did the job. I'm using this heater to provide ambient heating for all my fishtanks to save on electricity (if I had heaters in every fish tank, I'd end up using 2-4x more energy than I would just simply heating the room itself). The advantage to what I am using this heater for is that the fish tanks absorb a lot of the heat pretty easily and keep the room warm when the heater is not on. Even if the heater were to stay off, I'm sure the room temperature would stay pretty steady for a little while before it starts to drop.

Here are the cons:

* The instructions suck... But if you just tinker around with this thing for a little bit you'll figure out how to use it.

* Not really a con but just a warning to potential buyers, you definitely want to heed the warning in the instruction booklet to let this thing run at full power either outdoors or in a well ventilated area for 2-3 hours because it does release an odor at first. But hey, all new products release odors...name one product that doesn't. New houses wreak of pine, cars have that new car scent or a leather scent, books smell like ink, etc. But definitely let it "break in" before you put it where you need more heat.

* I'm still not sure what the "ComforTemp" button does? And the instructions suck. Either way I just have the comfortemp feature shut off since I am using an external thermostat to control this heater.

Who would I recommend this to?

People who need extra heat in a room 200 square feet or smaller, are concerned about fire safety, and want a heater that is pretty reliable. This is the only type of heater I would trust to leave on in a house without being home. So far so good...

Honest reviews on DeLonghi MG7307CM Safeheat 1500W ComforTemp Portable Oil Filled

I've purchased two of these heaters in the last 6 months. I returned the first one after about two weeks of use because of the very unpleasant odor it was generating. I followed the recommendation of another reviewer (which is consistent with the directions in the owner's manual) and ran the heater on high for 2+ hours in a well-ventilated area to "burn off" whatever coating is applied during the manufacturing process. This didn't seem to help at all as the odor persisted for the next two weeks. Because I liked the heater in general, I decided I would try another one. I ran the second heater on high for two full days, hoping that this would permanently eliminate any odor. It didn't. Months later, the odor is there any time we turn this thing on.

This might not be a big problem if you are looking to keep your basement or your garage warm, but we were looking to use this in our childrens' room. Unfortunately the odor is just too strong and without really knowing the cause, it's impossible to feel good about having young children breathing in this environment.

Clean -no initial burning gas odors that we got with the DeLonghi EW7707CM. It takes awhile to heat up the room, but after an hour or so, you've got a warm room (this one heats a fairly large, 10' x 30' space). The ComfortTemp system, though, hasn't been of much use to us, as our space can get pretty cold (San Francisco) and seems to need more heat output.

We've had it for nearly 2 months now, and have had no problems. It's also nice that it requires no assembly -the wheels fold under.
