Was scared at first that it would be delivered and some of the logs would be broken. I have heard a few people say this had happened to them. Not particularly with this product or company, but in general. Anyway, it got delivered to my house and within 30 minutes I had it up and flaming. Nice set, remote works awesome. Important to note, the connection point for gas in on the back right-hand side. On the unit I was replacing, it was on back left. Luckily I had a longer flexible gas line in my garage.

The side flaps for the windows are flimsy for such a large unit and the heat is not as warm as I would have liked even on a really high setting. I expected it to be like those units that are in hotels....LG should charge less for this product just for poor heating quality alone

I bought it for the heating feature but am disappointed that it doesn't shut off at the desired room temperature as with the cooling feature. It draws electricity when not needed.

The a/c works very well and seems to remove humidity fine. I have it in an area about 210 sq ft so that's what my recommendation is based on. The heater does not get very hot, so if want to use it as the only heat source ,you better settle for a smaller area than recommended. I use a space heater with it as needed. Also won't do very well in a very cold area is my guess.

Honest reviews on LG 7,000 BTU Window-Mounted Air Conditioner with Supplemental Heat

the a/c works great, but the heat is just warm...so it kinda warms up the room..it takes awhile..so im having to use a floor heater to help it. but a/c is good and cold. I guess you just cant have your cake and eat it to...:)

I've had several window units and this is by far my favorite. It's *incredibly* quiet, so much so that you can barely tell it's running. We have it in our living/dining area and it keeps both rooms really comfortable. It even manages to cool the connecting hallway and to a lesser extent the kitchen. I won't use the heat much as it's really hot here, but I'm really impressed with the cooling and think that alone makes it worth the price.

SO this unit works very well if no hotter than 82 degrees outside. If its hotter than 82 degrees the unit will only spit out 63 degree air. Which cools a little bit but does not make the cold by any means. I'm lucky if I can hold 73 degrees average room temp with another fan blowing. I have a instant read thermometer I used to test the unit. I have had it for about 2 months now. My office is about 210sq ft and in a basement (no direct sunlight). They advertise that this is a 12k BTU unit (its not) and that it can cool up to a 425sq ft room. It can't.

In dehumidifier basically dose not work until you install a condensation pump. The unit is advertised as "exhausts most or all condensate automatically except under extreme humidity situations" This is the case when the A/C is on but not the dehumidifier. I don't have a damp or wet basement by any means, however while in dehumidifier mode the condensation just does not exhaust like in A/C mode. Without the condensation pump, the unit will shut off after about an hour because "internal reservoir" is full. The reservoir holds about 20 ounces, and you need to go to the back of the unit to drain it. This is messy to do, due to the drain being right at floor level.

The unit itself was cheap compared to brand name, I paid $380 with free shipping. However now today was an exceptionally hot day and my unit isn't really cooling, i would have rather spend the extra $300 and purchased a brand name unit that works the way a typically AC would.

DO NOT BUY!! THE "AP12000HS MODEL". ELECTRONICS FAILED AFTER 12 MONTHS. THE DISPLAY PANEL WAS BAD. CALLED PRODUCT SUPPORT TO ORDER A NEW "DISPLAY PANEL", BUT I LEARNED THAT THE PANEL IS "NO LONGER MADE" FOR THIS MODEL(AP12000HS). THIS IS AMAZING. THEY ARE SELLING THIS UNIT TO CUSTOMERS NOT AWARE THAT THERE ARE NO PARTS TO FIX THEIR UNIT!! WOW. THERE MUST BE A LAW AGANIST THIS?

Honest reviews on EdgeStar 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner and Heater

I've had this unit for about a year. The cooling is very directional so the other areas of the room do not get cool. Also, the heater is a joke. It reports the temp in my room is 77 (the warmest setting for the heat), when it is obviously not. Also, the switch for the heat turns on and off repeatedly. I also read that the heater won't work if it's warmer than 60 degrees in the room. WTF! So, I would avoid this unit at all costs and the comapny I bought it from did not repsond to repeated attempts to rectify the issue.

Perhaps I,m being a bit too critical, but I couldn't give this unit a 4 or 5 star rating. I,ve had it set up for about a week now in a well insulated 400 square foot garage. This unit, according to manufacturer specs says it should do the job despite the fact that I,m pushing the high end for square footage. The A/C keeps my garage approximately 15 degrees cooler than outside temps which would be fine if you live in an area where average temps are 80 to 90 degrees during the summer. Well....I live in Arizona where it is common to have temps as high as 110 to 115 degrees for many weeks on end! To have a room "cooled" down to 90 to 95 degrees is not very much relief. The manufacturer should warn those who live in extremely hot climates that this unit may not do the trick for the max square footage advertised. Their disclosure policy needs some updating. However, I,m going to keep the unit as I,ve already punched a hole in my wall in order to accommodate the vent hose. Edgestar should consider applications in rooms that do not have windows and should consider selling an optional kit for windowless rooms. It was a pain trying to conjure up a vent installation that would work. I would not purchase this particular unit again had I known what I now know. Properly researching BTU's with square footage applications and temperature averages in any given area, is a must!

I have the Nutone 9114NT, which is exactly the same unit. I can almost feel heat when I am dry, but due to wind chill, after I towel off and stand in front of it, it feels cold! I record 112.5V and 10.62 amps, so I'm actually getting 1200W. At the grill, I have 300F, but the air very quickly mixes with ambient air and by the time it gets out from under the kickspace overhang, it is a degree above ambient. (Fortunately, I bought mine at a steep discount, since the the unit is discontinued under the Nutone name)

Warms the room and the floor tile so showering or bathing is sooo comfy now! Would definately buy again, in fact, we now have two!!

Honest reviews on Broan Model 112 Kickspace Heater with Built-In Thermostat, White

I already had an under cabinet heater in our kitchen and replaced it with this unit. Installation was easy and it functions well. One thing to note (and a very small thing) when you have the cover off to connect the wiring, I recommend giving the upper panel a little tweak. I had an annoying rattle that ended up being the large upper (sheet metal) panel that would resonate with a small "oil can" effect when the heater reached full temperature. Putting a small tweak in the top added just enough stress to the top to take out the rattle.

Using the model with the internal thermostat allowed me to use the existing wiring without having to add a wall thermostat.

Bought locally (though I normally love Amazon). I have a 20x20 garage, 400 sq feet. This portable A/C is cooling the garage nicely. Initially, just testing it, I vented it through a hole I made in the concrete block wall. It didn't seem to be cooling very well. Some of the heat from the vent hose was not making it out the new hole, but escaping into my garage. I didin't want to put much effort into the hole until I felt like this A/C would be worth my time. I fretted, and considered it. Then I decided to go ahead and make a proper whole, sealed, with the dryer-vent-flap on the outside of the garage now no hot air is escaping from the vent into the garage all the hot air is going outside professional looking job I think. Whalla. I like this A/C. You have to wrap insulation around the vent hose since it gets hot and will just radiate that heat into your room. We have an insullated ceiling and an insulated garage door. Hot southern USA. We use our garage sometimes for crafting and similar activities... this A/C will do nicely. Yes, I've only had it for 24 hours, but... happy

I purchased this unit through Amazon several months ago, and am glad I did. No more suffering through the intense summer heat in a one bedroom, non air conditioned apartment.

The unit itself is relatively easy to set up. As my unit was shipped via Fed-ex, I had to initially let it sit upright, non-operating, for a day in order for the refrigerant fluid to settle and prevent damage. Other than that, you simply plug in the unit, connect the collapsible vent hose from the unit to the window (via window adapter), and turn it on. It takes less than 5 minutes to cool my living room to my preferred comfort temperature (about 75 degrees inside while high 80's/90's outside).

In over 2 months of use, I opened the drain plug only once, and there were only a few small drips of liquid that came out. The evaporate cooling technology worked great for me, and those who have had issues with leaks in the Pinguino models must have had defective units.

Regardless of what unit you buy, don't settle for anything less than 12,000 BTU's for a portable AC. 14,000 BTU's would be better for larger rooms and houses.

I do have a few issues with this unit. One, as Pflorky mentions, is that the vent only blows air upwards at an angle. It would have been nice to be able to change the direction of air flow. The second is that the unit can be a bit noisy, necessitating raising the volume of the television by several points. I don't think it's so loud that it will make you deaf, but it can be noticeable. This is a minor quibble, as I would rather be cool and comfortable than suffering and miserable from the heat.

Last, depending on the style and size of your window you choose to vent from, you may need to 'jury rig' something to properly vent the unit. I have a sliding style window in the living room (side to side), and the opening is nearly 5 feet from top to bottom. The window adapter that came with the unit was too short to completely fill in the gap, so I used some boarding and tape to seal off any openings.

Overall I am very happy that I purchased this unit.

Best Deals on DeLonghi PACN120E Pinguino N Series 12,000 BTU Air-to-Air Portable

My experience with this unit it that it is a bit noisy but cools and dehumidifies VERY well. It was a good purchase and helps supplement my inadequate central AC during the crazy Chicago heat waves. HOWEVER.... I have had to get creative and sit it in a pan intended to go under a water heater or shwer... as it leaks much of the water/ vapor that is formed when it works hard. Typically the 4x4 foot pan ends up with about 3/8 of an inch of water in it. If I could get help knowing what size fitting is required to attach a hose I'd just put it in the window... but this was an emergency measure as my hardwood floor was under attack...

Overall I'd give this an Aas it cools better than my more expensive SHARP... but the SHARP has features this one doesn't have and is not "having accidents".

Honest reviews on DeLonghi PACN120E Pinguino N Series 12,000 BTU Air-to-Air Portable

The unit works well.

It's easy to install.

It would be better, however, if the airflow could be adjusted up and down. Otherwise the air flows in one direction, and change can only be effected by moving the machine.

This AC was bought to replace an old 23,500 BTU thru the wall unit. I installed this myself in the same place where that old AC was. Install was rather easy, and I am not sure why people are saying that it was difficult or confusing. NOTE THAT YOU NEED A 220V OUTLET FOR THIS AC!!

First, the people who say that this AC is noisy must not have installed it properly. For its size and power, this unit is very quiet. There are no rattling sounds or anything of the like. Second, despite this being 5,000 BTU less than the unit it replaced, this unit cools very well. We have had a few 100 degree days already this year, and this AC had no problem dealing with them! The people who complain that it doesnt cool well likely received bum units and should return them.

The AC comes with a remote which is very easy to use. One cool feature is that the remote has its own temperature sensor and you can have the AC keep the temp at a constant level based upon either the temp at the AC unit itself or where the remote is. So I can leave the remote in a different room and have it use the sensor in the remote to keep the temp in that room at a constant.

THIS AC IS THE BEST DEAL IN ITS COOLING CLASS; DO NOT HESITATE TO BUY IT!

This is a pretty quiet AC. In the past 20 years, its the quietest one we've had, which is important as its installed next to a TV set. Cools well but honestly any 18000 BTU AC would in my situation as its oversized for my small house. The controls are easy to use and the thermostat is accurate. You have to realize the temp reading it is receiving is at the source, so if its set to 72, in the middle of the room it will stay more like 75 and closer to even 80 as you get by a wall. Keep that in mind. Installing was about typical for this type heavy AC. I also noticed it reduces humidity rather well. I am very content with this AC.

Honest reviews on Frigidaire FRA186MT2 18,500 BTU Window-Mounted Median Air

I installed this unit in a house in the Outer Banks of NC. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with the performance – not only did it quickly cool the area but it also substantially reduced the humidity. The room in which the unit was installed is an open kitchen/dining/living floor plan and it approximates 550 to 600 sq ft. The unit cooled this area with no problem and actually managed to cool the 3 bedrooms in the back part of the house (about 1,100 sq ft in total). One of the back rooms is a little stuffy, but I think the installation of a ceiling fan will help. Another positive – the noise is not the least bit distracting even with the fan operating on high.

Now the "but"

It took more time than I would have liked to install not due to error on my behalf, but due to poor assembly on the behalf of Frigidaire. Once installed, I turned the unit on only to be greeted with an incredibly loud thumping/clanking/metallic noise and ridiculous vibration. Upon further investigation, I realized that several connecting screws were missing on internal components (i.e. parts that were supposed to be connected, but absent the screw to do so). In addition, a massive glop of plumbers' putty or similar substance was stuck to the fan causing the fan to be off balance (the reason for the excessive vibration). I was extremely aggravated because I really shouldn't have to perform the final steps of assembly or conduct my own product quality check.

The "unfinished" condition in which the product arrived is the reason I rated this product at four stars and not five.

I have only used this unit for a few days but it appears to be working better than I originally anticipated. All other aspects of the transaction (shipping, etc.) went as expected.

I purchased two of these units. After running for two days, one unit leaked all over my hardwood floors. No water would come from the drain. On the third day, the other unit leaked and soaked the entire bedroom rug. I was quite upset, I was ready to throw both of them in the truck and bring them to the landfill. The next day, my temper cooled down some, so rather than shipping both of these back to soleus, I took one of them apart to see what the problem was. There is a small water pump in the front of the unit that pumps water up and over the condensor coils to help cool it and send the moisture out the exhaust. There is a small hose that leads from the water pump to the condensor coil. This hose was just laying in there, it was never hooked up. I re-connected it and I ran the unit for a week. Everything worked fine.No more leaks! I then proceded to take the second one apart to find the same exact problem. Both units have been in service now for about a month and I haven't had any other issues. I must say though that I was less than impressed with the quality of workmanship.

Before buying a portable air conditioner, it helps to understand what you can expect and not expect from it. There is no way it will provide the cooling of central air, ductless air or even a really good window unit. I have owned all of these and speak from experience. However, when you move into a condo with all kinds of restrictions about what can be visible from the exterior or constraints on the architectural structure, then the portable is the best answer.

I have owned 4 of these and three different brands. My condo has three separate major spaces, 2 smaller for bedroom suite and office/den. The main living space is larger than the max recommended for any 120 volt unit, and that is where I now have the Soleus LX140.

The two smaller spaces are cooled with GE 10,000 BTU units that I have had for 5 years. HE quit making these units the year after I bought them They are quiet and have held up and keep the spaces in the upper 70s when the ambient temperature is in the mid 90s.

I used to have and Edgestar in the main space. I live in the Seattle area so only need the cooling about 2 months a year, and then not every day. The Edgestar was the worst unit I have ever owned. It was the noisiest unit and it quit in the middle of the second season. I called the manufacturer in Texas and they said it only had a 90 day warranty. They also said they had no service reps in the Pacific NW and couldn't help. After lengthy searching, I found one person who said they fixed them. After spending over $300, it still didn't work. The service tech said he would take it to the shop and return it in "New Condition." That was a year ago and I have never seen him or the unit again.

So I bought the Soleus. I found a dealer in Portland where I knew I could get to if needed. The manufacturer is in California, I can get there pretty easily too. Also, the Soleus has a 1 year warranty. I ordered the unit and it was delivered in 7 days. I set it up immediately but found that you had to use the remote to turn on the fan oscillator. It had to be the receiver or the transmitter, but I didn't know how to tell. I called the dealer, and within a few hours I got a call back from the manufacturer. They said they would send a new remote. If it still didn't work, they would send a label and an RMA. I got the remote in three days and everything worked.

The Soleus runs about 10 db quieter than the Edgstar. My main living space has 594 square feet and with partial cathedral ceilings about 5565 cubic feet. I am on the top floor, facing southwest with ceiling to floor glass across the entire space. Without any AC, the space has reached 110 degrees when it was 95 outside in the late afternoon. Also, there are no opening windows or sliding doors, so I am venting the unit up the fire place flu.

This week we had three days in the 90's. When it reached 98 degrees outside, the Soleus kept the space at 81. When the temperature reached 85 today, the Soleus kept the space in the mid 70s.

CONS: The only con I have at this point is that the fan oscillation is vertical instead of side to side.

The next test will be longevity as to how long it will hold up. However, at this time, the Soleus LX140 has proven to be the best unit of its type that I have used and I am very impressed with the technical service assistance of the manufacturer.

Best Deals on Soleus 4 in 1 Portable Air Conditioner

If you are looking for a portable air conditioner/heat pump avoid this product and manufacturer. While the unit is satisfactory when running, once any problems develop that require service outside the warranty period, you may as well junk it. My unit lasted just 14 months and developed a leak that ruined my floor. Considering that I only used the air conditioning function during the summer, it only lasted one cooling season.

There is no local service network to fix even the most minor problem. I suppose that you could ship the unit back as was suggested by Soleusair for repair, but have you ever struggled with boxing and shipping a large unit that weighs 50 or 60 pounds, to say nothing about the premium shipping and repair cost. It is cheaply made and unreliable

Honest reviews on Soleus 4 in 1 Portable Air Conditioner

I just got the unit. It was easy to install and seems to work fine, both heating and cooling. I would like to know the actual BTU delivered to the room it seems a bit light for the rating. Its a bit noisy but that's understandable where all the functioning parts are in the room with you. There could be a more attention to vibration though.

The great room in our addition is large and has high ceilings. This winter has been really cold and the furnace has been running non stop to keep up. The thermostat is in this room and their are two bedrooms above it. To keep the great room comfortable it turns the bedrooms into suanas. This heater has completely solved the problem. Pros:

-Very quiet. Most noise you will hear is a low hum.

-3 different modes. Low, High, and Fan. Nice to have the fan choice on warmer days.

-Heats very quickly. Heats a moderate sized room in about 20 minutes, and the automatic thermostat is a very nice addition for at night when sleeping.

Cons:

-Only thing I can think of is that I wish the fan was a little more powerful. I wouldn't recommend to use the fan feature as a fan replacement entirely.

Overall, it does it's job perfectly. Great for if you have a room in your house with a bad draft. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable space heater.

Using in two car garage. Maintains Avery comfortable temp even when outside is teens twenties. Not much noise and moves a good amount of air. I would definitely recommend this heater and get another for myself. Good value.

17 degrees this morning, two car garage 60 degrees.

Follow up:

It's Late April and still very much like winter in Kansas. This heater hasn't missed a lick since it came out of the box. The electric bill is a little higher, but not as bad as I figured for constant running. Turned my garage into a usable area during the coldest of times. Love it.

Still a thumbs up from me.

At first, I loved this space heater. It was nice and warm.

There were only two small issues at the beginning. One is that the power light is on whenever it's plugged in, even if it's off, so it's rather useless as an indicator. The other is that the "adjustable angle" is a very small angle, maybe a 10 degree change in direction.

Then, one day, the heather stopped working. About 45 days after I bought it, so I can't return it to the store. I used the reset instructions that came with the heater. It worked for another 3 minutes or so. I had to reset it again. It worked for another 3 minutes or so. After having reset it 5 times just tonight alone, I've decided to throw it out and buy something else.
