Reviews of Stonegate® Modena Fireplace and Entertainment Center
Was very challenging to put together--definitely needs two people to do it right. When finally got together, it looks really pretty and puts out reasonable amount of heat, but not enough to warm a large space. It holds a average size TV and VCR, so it both practical in addition to being pretty. Nice size--works well in a small room. Rich cherry color looks nice with the black accent.

Personal Mini Fridge Cooler / Warmer BLACK Review
I thought that this would be a good gift for my brother-in-law's home office. He always likes a cool drink at hand. First of all I didn't particularly care about the condition when it arrived. It definitely didn't look new with a number of fingernail scratches on the top in the handle area although the box it came in seemed unmolested and the packing seemed original. The black finish also looked hazy. This product is also billed as an "office" cooler but the inside caution sheet said that it had to be turned off after a few hours "or damage will occur". Their description here at Amazon says 10 hours but I don't recall seeing that when I ordered this as a Christmas gift. So you have to babysit this thing all day to make sure it doesn't die? Not much of a "office" cooler. It is also a bit noisy with the fan in the back being loud. It uses the same fan as your average computer case so you'd think it would be about as loud as that. But it's louder.
Overall, I wouldn't do this product again for what I intended, keeping drinks cool at the office. Maybe for the car or something but it's really kind of stupid design for that use.

Unbelievable. My wife and I needed something on the same floor as our baby's room. And then after about 3 months of use, IT CAUGHT ON FIRE!!! We had a dinner party and I smelled smoke! It was just about to burst into flames and I caught it. It made some kind of high-pitched buzzing noise and then lit up like a fuse. Good thing it was 6P in the afternoon! Craziness. And the sh-t is made in China, so good luck getting a refund.Best Deals on Personal Mini Fridge Cooler / Warmer BLACK
They don't make it very clear, but there IS a time limit on this mini fridge. It says in Amazon's listing that you can't run it for more than 10 hours or "damage may occur." It should be made more obvious in the packaging and labeling that you can only use it for short times. I think 10 hours is being generous, since performance seems to slow earlier than that. Works okay for very short times, but that's all.Honest reviews on Personal Mini Fridge Cooler / Warmer BLACK
Although it is exactly the size as advertised, I was a bit surprised at how small it was. I wanted something a bit bigger. However, I am finding I prefer its small stature. It is perfect for use in my office as it fits nearly anywhere and also great for travel, which I do quite frequently. It keeps my son's milk cold enough, which is why I purchased it. I have not yet used the heating feature. Just be careful: the black box on the cord can get hot.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Personal Mini Fridge Cooler / Warmer BLACK
I needed something small to keep a few things chilled while at work. Without wanting to make the trek to the kitchen at the other end of the bldg., I am able to keep this in my cubicle overhead bin. I can fit a couple of soda's, sandwich, yogurt etc. cold. It's very convenient!Friday, September 26, 2014

Cheap Haier HPR09XC5 9,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner
I did A LOT of research before buying this portable a/c, and I have to say I am very pleased with my choice. I live in NYC where the humid heat is unrelenting, and the dehumidification feature does wonders. AlsoI have left the a/c on for days at a time and not once have I had to drain excess water. And, set up was a breeze. My only complaint is that the unit can be noisyit makes quite a bit of noise when the cooling system kicks on and off; so much so, actually, that after two minths it still wakes me up if I am not in a deep sleep. But, that is a small complaint in the midst of a mostly happy review. If you can't have a window unit, I definitely recommend this portable a/c.
Additionally, the exhaust kit doesn't fit my standard window opening and the exhaust tubing gets super hot. So, there's a battle between the marginal coolness of the unit versus the unendurable heat of the exhaust. Lucky me.
My only complaints are minor. First, the exhaust hose is configured such that the unit can't be placed closer than about two feet from the wall if you want it in front of the window you're venting it out. You may be able to get it closer to the wall if it's off to the side of the window, but I don't have any wall/floor space on either side of my window. Also, the display light is constantly on and is a blue light. During the day, this is fine (although perhaps a small waste of energy), but at night it's rather bright, and I have to drape something over it so I can sleep. These are certainly not issues that would prevent me from recommending the unit, however. I read a lot of reviews before settling on this one, and I still had concerns, especially about having to drain water. But this unit has performed perfectly!

I don't know if I've got a defective unit or not but I've had the thing running for nearly three days in a room about 250 square feet and the thermostat still says 77 degrees (I've got it set for 68). This is awful. In the morning I get colder air by putting a fan in my window. This is nothing more than a very expensive fan. I'm horribly disappointed with this machine and caution others against it.Additionally, the exhaust kit doesn't fit my standard window opening and the exhaust tubing gets super hot. So, there's a battle between the marginal coolness of the unit versus the unendurable heat of the exhaust. Lucky me.

First year worked well. we purchased a/c heater unit. Winter came heater unit didn't work. Customer service would not do anything about the unit. 2nd year it could not keep up with humidity and leaked even though drained...read some reviews where it will not keep up with high humidity areas. Just for the sheer lack of customer support for warranty coverage I would not recommend this brand. Very disappointed when 3rd summer it quit completely...Honest reviews on Haier HPR09XC5 9,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner
I've been using this unit for about three months in a 12x12 ft room. Initially I was just using it for a few hours per day, but for the past month, it's been running almost nonstop in the humid Northeast. I've never had to empty the water, and it has always kept the temperature within two degrees of the requested temperature setting. Even on 90+ days, I often keep the fan setting on the lowest option since it cools well even without the fan blowing strongly. The exhaust hose is warm to the touch (as all are), but it doesn't feel like it's radiating a lot of heat back into the room.My only complaints are minor. First, the exhaust hose is configured such that the unit can't be placed closer than about two feet from the wall if you want it in front of the window you're venting it out. Cheap Heat Surge Fireplace with Amish Made Mantle Oak
I bought two of these and spent almost $700 and I am VERY DISSAPOINTED with their performance. You can't even feel the heat unless you are about a foot away from the unit. I live in California where it doesn't really get that cold in the winter but I was interested in saving money on my heating bill and this thing won't even heat my bedroom. The mantle is oak plywood, not solid oak as advertised. The only good thing about them is that they look nice. The Amish are being used as a marketing tool to sell these fireplaces. All of the parts come from China and are assembled by Amish in Ohio, so don't expect good Amish craftsmanship because you won't get it with a Heat Surge Electric Fireplace.
And guess what? My local Target has a whole section full of 1,500 quartz ceramic heaters for less than...$30 each. In fact, I bought a 1,500 watt quartz ceramic heater at Target for $19.95, and it works great! The one I bought for $19.95 works so good I bought several more for my house, one for my Mom, one for my Dad, and two for my sister, all at $19.95 each! Actually, some were on sale after Christmas for $14.95 each, and others were two for $20! Nice. And warm.
I don't know how we're going to put food on the table next week.
The heater itself is no miracle of technology. Any 1500 watt electric heater will produce the same amount of heat. It's just the fact of elctrically produced heat. The difference is how well the heat is distributed.
The heat surge has a two speed blower that forces heated air out the vents along the top of the heater. That heated air then rises to the ceiling and eventually may fill the room with heat.
I put the Heat Surge in a basement room with no door. All the heat went up the stairs and my electric bill went up $75 per month. So much for saving money!
The "Amish built" mantel looks nice, but upon close inspection your will find that the "solid wood" is plywood with a laminate or veneer covering.
The "flickering flames" are an optical illusion produced by a scrolling acetate film in front of two chandelier bulbs. The "flames" on mine frequently stop moving becuase the belt that drives the acetate film developed a flat spot.
See Consumer Reports to find musch better values on portable heaters.
For my money, I would recommend going to WalMart and buying a $25 electric heater. It won't look as nice, but you will feel just as warm, maybe warmer.

I purchased this item to heat a small trailer. After reading all the hype the company provides I thought this would be a good alternative heat source. NOT SO. When I called the company to return the item you are put thru the hoops. Your on hold for hours at a time. Just trying to talk to someone to get the return shipping label issued. In the meantime the company takes their sweet time in issueing the UPS return. You have 30 days to return the item... or your stuck with it. This includes from the time it was sent to you from the warehouse, weekends & holidays. Then they have the nerve to charge you $50.00 for the return. This is a decorative item, not a single heat sourcesomething they don't bother to mention anywhere. It took them 24hrs to collect my money & 6wks to get my partial refund. It's shocking to me that people would pay $350 for a heater that puts out the exact same amount of heat as a $19.95 heater available at most major retail stores. Review of Black & Decker Infrared Quartz Heater 7BDQ1000
Not sure how long this bargain will last but jump on it ! 26.00 plus 7.00 shipping.. Works good and has remote. Best deal around . Now I just received it today and I was really wondering if it would be ok as I believe you get what you pay for but its just fine and brand new. Now it if lasts the test of time I'll be very pleased. I see terrible reviews on allot of these type heaters and I don't reconise any of the brand names but I've always had good luck with Black and decker products. Seemed like a win win. Glad I took the chance. This company Wayfair that sells it shipped it promptly. Thanks Wayfair !

UPDATE (7/25/12): One of the commenters posted a link where you can buy extra food containers for $5 off the crockpot website. Sweet!
Pros:
* It looks cool. It made a couple of my co-workers "ooh" and "aah".
* It is compact, light, and easy to carry.
* It warms food great as long as you remember to plug it in! On average, it warmed my food to comfortable eating temperature within 1 ½ hours. This has included all kinds of foods from basic pureed soup to liver and onions. (I like liver).
* There is no smell from the food until you take the lid off to eat.
* The inner bowl cools quickly. I unplug the warmer, leave the inner container in the warmer while I eat so I don't have to mess with how to remove a hot metal bowl. By the time I finish eating my lunch, the inner bowl is cool enough at the top for me to remove it.
* I like the fact that I don't have to use the work microwave. It saves me time because I used to take a Lysol wipe to the office kitchen counter and a soapy paper towel to the microwave before using it. My office has a high population of folks who bring their own lunch (maybe around 70), which is great for budgets, but not so great when you get skeeved out over the residual gunk that was all over the microwave over the course of the week. With this little warmer, I put my food in the container, and plug it in and it's done. I rinse out the container at work, but it goes in the dishwasher at home. I save 5 to 10 minutes of pre-cleaning the office kitchen space, and I don't have to wait until it's past the "lunch rush".
Cons:
* It would be great if you could buy extra containers for it. I could see myself packing a whole week's worth of containers on Sunday night. There are also some days when I work past dinner, and it would be nice to be able to bring food in a second container. I did buy a second warmer, but I'd rather pay half the price and get extra inner containers.
* Don't heat spinach in it. Turns out bitter.
Other information:
* The lid on the inner container usually pops up slightly after 10 minutes of warming. The instructions did note this might happen and to not try to put the lid back on.
Based on a couple of other reviews stating concerns about bacteria and food safety, I decided to do a little experiment. I put tap water in the inner container and tested the temperature of water every hour for three hours. I also decided to test the temperature of actual food, again testing the temperature every hour for 3 hours. I used a Thermapen Instant Read digital thermometer to measure the temperatures. The results are in the table below. According to the NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) website, precooked foods need to be reheated to 165 °F when using a microwave. The FDA website states that hot foods at picnics should be kept at 140 °F. As you can see from the results I got, the water temperature surpassed the 165°F within an hour. The food surpassed the 140°F within 2 hours, and was just under 165 °F at about the 3 hour mark.
Time ----Temperature Water ----Temperature Food
9:45 am ---- 67.4°F ---------- 36 °F
10:47 am ---168.5°F ---------126.2 °F
11:45 am ---170 °F ---------145.1 °F
12:50 pm ---170.8°F ---------164.9 °F
The product is meant for warming cooked food only, and it does this slowly using non-adjustable low-power. The idea is that if you don't have access or don't want to use the office microwave -and don't mind a comparatively longer "wait" time (minimum of 1 hour for most foods, I would say) - for heating up your lunches, this appliance might be an option. When you get to work, for example, you could plug in the appliance right away, so that by lunch time, you'll have a hot meal ready to eat. For convenience, you can leave the warming base at work, and travel back and forth from home and office with the removable food container and lid only (but see caveat below).
Although the product heats up food just fine as is, you should know that the appliance does not have an on/off switch, so you're responsible for plugging and unplugging it if you can't work around this problem by plugging the warmer to a power strip that you can turn on and off (but then again, the warmer's relatively short power cord could be a problem for some). When your food is ready, you most likely have to eat it with the food container still on the warming base, because the container would likely be too hot to touch. This was sometimes a negative for me.
The food container's push-down / pull-up lid does not provide a really tight cover, so when you're transporting foods with liquids or sauces, make sure you keep the container in a secure, upright position. Finally, a food container that can also double as a microwaveable container can be a real life-saver when one is in a pinch for time and happens to have access to a microwave!
Pros:
Save money by bringing food to work instead of eating out.
Heats food throughout the day, unlike the food jar where it's hot in the morning and cooler at lunch.
NO MICROWAVED FOOD TASTE! Heats slowly and evenly without making food chewy or tough.
Cons:
Cheeses and cream sauces tend to separate.
Food can leak out if it turns over.
Can't take a meal with separate sides. Nit Picky i guess.
I honestly couldn't love this thing more. I use it almost every day. I found a nice little collapsible spork meant for camping that fits between the outer lid and the inner. Fantastic product you will not regret buying. EVER.

it's exactly as the other reviewers said...if you're a cubicle dweller and hate hassling with lines at the office microwave, this gadget is for you. It only re-warms food (so no cooking any raw meat here), so if you plug it in when you get in the office in the morning, you'll have a hot lunch waiting for you at lunchtime. And there's absolutely no food cooking smell, so your cubicle neighbors don't know you're cooking lunch. The container seals in all food cooking smells until you open up the crock, at which point, your co-workers will know you're enjoying your lunch. The color isn't exactly as it appears on the photo..on the pix, the red color appears to be crimson/burgundy but it's exactly as described standard red/white (like the Target bulls-eye logo).Best Deals on Crock-Pot SCCPLC200-G 20-Ounce Lunch Crock Food Warmer
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program As you can see from the product image above, this portable, low-power Crock-Pot Food Warmer comes with a twisting outer lid and a short carry-handle. I'm a technician and work out of my van. i plug this little guy into a power inverter in my van and off i go. I used to have to mess around every morning with a food jar if i wanted a hot home made meal. Boil the water. Pour the hot water into the food jar and let sit for 15 minutes. Microwave food and then pour out the water and try to spoon in the food through the narrow neck. Now i just dump my leftovers into the food container, take it outside and plug it in. around lunch time my food is piping hot.Pros:

Received this as a gift from my wife for Christmas. Since I'm a cube dweller, she figured this would be a fun and functional little desk accessory, and she was right! I've only used it once so far but it worked exactly as advertised last night's leftover casserole was perfectly heated by lunchtime. The only knock I have on it so far is that it lacks an on/off switch, and therefore has to be plugged in/unplugged for use, which I can see being relatively inconvenient if you're going to use the crock more than occasionally.Thursday, January 30, 2014
Reviews of Yama Glass 5 cup Tabletop Ceramic 20oz Syphon w/Butane Burner
I've always wanted to try out a vacuum brewer, and so I bought this one since it had a great price and included a burner. I have used the burner a few times at the table, but I have found I mostly prefer to simply use the gas stove. The butane burner does work well and has plenty of heat to get the job done. Plus the whole package is very handsome.
I didn't think I'd use this much because it's a bit more of a hassle than a french press, but I like the coffee it makes so much that I use it every day. I'm surprised it makes coffee that is better than the french press, but it does make it a lot smoother and the cup has absolutely no grounds or mud in it.
I roast my own coffee now, and this the perfect companion to the roaster for the way I like coffee, which is smooth, consistent, and flavorful. Plus it is fun to watch it work. The included bottom glass makes enough to for two normal sized coffee cups or one large mug for the road. It includes 5 cloth filters, and I have used the same one for many months now. Daily cleanup is with the sink sprayer which gets the filter clean enough for more use. Then once a week, I pull the filter out of the metal holder and clean it up well.
The amazon page states quite a long lead time for shipping, but it came in just over a week--which was great.
If you love hot coffee that is not burnt or over cooked, and you wish to get away from the paper filters, this Siphon Pot of perfect. I loved it.
This product makes absolutely perfect coffee. The presentation for guests is amazing.
YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS COFFEE MAKER.
I have no fewer than 6 coffeemaking appliances -ancient Bodum Santos Electric (a warhorse that I used constantly for over 10 years, still works like new...sadly, Bodum stopped making these); reasonable mid-line drip machine (only use when I need to produce a volume of coffee for guests); a Bodum french press; an Aeropress (pretty cool, makes a smooth cup); a Coleman percolator we use for camping; and the Yama. They all have something to recommend them, but my runaway favorite is the Yama.
The manufacturer has made an honest attempt to make this unit pretty, with the floral scrolling in the base and its overall design. Even so, the first impression is that it's a bit rickety-looking. The screw-on uprights move a bit, and the whole thing flexes in a mildly unnerving way. But I've brewed well in excess of 100 pots in the Yama and it shows no sign of wear or failure. Nowadays I don't even question its sturdiness...it has help up just fine.
A few weeks into usage, I started getting a nasty flavor note. After some investigation online, I determined that it was buildup on the 3 cloth filters. I tried the various methods that were suggested for cleaning them, but was never able to completely eliminate that off-note, so I tossed them. There are two excellent alternatives to the cloth filters. First, you can use the paper filters for Aeropress. They are very inexpensive and fit well. They do deposit a little more sediment in the cup, but some people like that. Since I don't, I tried another method, which is a Yama stainless steel filter. Make sure you wash the steel filter well before putting it to work, as it does present a slighty metallic taste on first use. But it doesn't leave as much sediment as the paper filters, produces a cup that I think is as good as the cloth filters, and most importantly doesn't get nasty with use. It rinses clean under a faucet, and stands up to repeated use. Mine has had most of those >100 pots pass through it, and it's still in fine shape.
I think the butane burner is the most effective of the available means of producing heat. Stovetop would probably work if you have a gas stove, but electric stovetops are too up-and-down on the temperatures, making for more drama than needed during the brewing process. Alcohol burners work ok, but they take longer than butane burners....a lot longer, in my experience.
YMMV, but for my money, vac pots are the best way to brew coffee. I'm giving the Yama 5 stars because it is a good value for the money, it hits its design goal beautifully, and for me it has stood up to a lot of use. It does everything it is purported to do, and it makes killer brew.

If you love a French Press, but want to move into something a bit more elegant and exotic to make coffee the Siphon Based System is just the answer. I opted for this device because it is fueled by Butane Gas the same gas to fill Cigarette Lighters. If you love hot coffee that is not burnt or over cooked, and you wish to get away from the paper filters, this Siphon Pot of perfect. I loved it.

My parents used a vacuum coffee maker back in the 1950's...that being said the absolutely best cup of coffee I've ever had in my life was in Jakarta (on, of course, the island of Java) from a table-top vacuum coffee maker. This product makes absolutely perfect coffee. The presentation for guests is amazing.
YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS COFFEE MAKER.

You wouldn't be investigating this product if you didn't love your coffee, so the fact that this is more work than a drip machine is likely irrelevant to you. The payoff for (not really all that much) extra work is a great cup. Once you've gone a few rounds with this method, the end to end time (burner-on to coffee-down) is less than 10 minutes. Actual brewing, which is the only part where you actually need to pay close attention, is 2 minutes. And man, the coffee is good.I have no fewer than 6 coffeemaking appliances -ancient Bodum Santos Electric (a warhorse that I used constantly for over 10 years, still works like new...sadly, Bodum stopped making these); reasonable mid-line drip machine (only use when I need to produce a volume of coffee for guests); a Bodum french press; an Aeropress (pretty cool, makes a smooth cup); a Coleman percolator we use for camping; and the Yama.

Very happy with this syphon. Have made some very nice coffee with it. Only down side is the plastic service handle around neck of the bowl which broke quickly but is easily fixed.
