We ordered two of these heaters from Amazon 30 Jul and received them in early Aug. Both heaters had rub marks as they were poorly packed with only paper to protect them allowing them to rock in the box. We installed them in late Aug and tested them when it was hot (when hot they worked OK). Sep 14th was our first cool day so we lit them and both heaters lit in the orifice area burning flames behind and several inches overtop the bricks which is potentially dangerous. There was a sound like a jet engine at a distance so we immediately turned off the heaters and turned off the propane as a safety measure. We doubled checked to insure the heaters were set for propane and they were. Today Sept 16th we has a specialist, with 25 years experience fixing gas heaters, come out and he said the heaters have a bad design with the propane pilot light on the wrong side permitting gas to build-up before it lights (the gas enters from the other side) causing it to burn in the orifices (there are 5-1 for each brick) and that we should return the heaters. We tried to return them but we are past the return period. Therefore, he said the bricks or thermostat must be preheated so they will light to solve the problem as the problem is because the bricks and thermostat were 69 degrees the day the problem occurred ( that is why the heaters worked OK on a hot August day as the bricks and thermostat were warm then). We wish we had never seen these heaters as we cannot trust them unless we are with them to fix the reoccurrence of this issue. To be fair the heaters do provide heat although 1 brick in each heater does not glow as red as the others.

Replaced a older heater. This one seems to be doing a god job.

The price was very good and shipment was very fast.

Delivery was quick, installation easy and the price was right for a thermostat controlled plaque heater with blower BUT after only 2 days of use, the pilot refused to stay lit for natural gas, and it had a roaring noise when the pilot would ignite... not something I was thrilled with at all, could have just been a defect in the one I purchased and returned which is why I gave it 4 stars, I did like it...I only wish that the one I received had worked out.

Was a little larger than I expected, but OK. Had a few dents in it, but again OK. Will find out this winter how well it works.

We bought this for our new one-room garage apartment because of the Frigidaire name. It is working great. It cools nicely and also heats nicely. What else could we ask for? I love the "econ" mode because it keeps the big room your chosen temp and saves energy at the same time. So glad we found this on Amazon. Also, Amazon Prime has paid for itself many times over.

Picked one up from Walmart, its very simple and easy to use, with directional heat. The fan isn't too loud, but when it turns on when in auto mode, it has a pronounced click. Having a digital temperature setting is good, but I don't think it actually monitors correctly. Close enough to keep us warm at night while not running constantly. Mine actually has the add on swivel base (Model BCH4175-WM1-115) which operates silent and smooth. I recommend the swivel one if you can find one.

I am a popcorn lover, and I like this machine

Pros:

8 oz Size

-Makes enough popcorn for 3 to 4 people. Using 8oz popcorn packs, it makes awesome popcorn, and a lot of it.

Features

-I like the heating element underneath to keep the popcorn hot, not sure if this is a standard feature, but I like it. The old maid drawer is pretty big.

Looks

-I like the skyline look on the glass. The black on top matches the stainless steel.

Cons:

Steel

-The Metal seems a little flimsy, and it was delivered with bent metal right where the old maid drawer is, but that was fixed with a pliers. The pin to keep the kennel in place had one hole drilled bad. The flip out bottom door is also thin and flimsy.

Looks

-The metal "vent" on top is just paint, and the icons for the switches are funky and unpolished.

Glass

-One of the doors was not straight. I tried to fix it my adjusting the hinges, but nothing helped. The one is good, but the other one is offset from the other and is harder to close than the good one.

Overall:

It works well, looks good, but it seems a little flimsy and the door problem made it lose a few points. The entire machine was packaged well, with no assembly. It did take about 5 days to ship, but it got to my house in 2 days. If you do not use premeasured packets with this machine, make sure you use atleast 1 TBSP of oil per 1/2 cup of popcorn. The manual says to use only 1 TBSP, but a cup of popcorn will not pop well with only that much. The door does say the correct amount. The scoop that comes with it is kind of small, but it works. I would recommend this machine to people who want a 8 oz popcorn popper.

We bought this popcorn popper to add a free snack to happy hour at the bar we own and have found it to be an excellent addition. Not only has the popcorn been a hit to the customers, the popper has worked flawlessly. We have maintained it as instructed to and to this point, has been the perfect popcorn popper machice!

I purchased this popcorn popper to help with making popcorn for my school on Fridays. I loved the general styling, espcially the stainless parts. The machine is easy to use, but I had a major problem with the kettle. The part where the kettle is welded to the swinging hinge actually FELL OFF after JUST 3 HOURS of use. I called Great Northern and they immediately offered to return it, no problem. Decided to purchase the next one up-the 12oz. commercial one.

Honest reviews on Great Northern Popcorn 6255 Pop Frenzy Self Contained Popper

I got the machine on Feb 9, 2012 and tried popping some corn immediately. Setup was very easy. The first time I used it, it took almost 12 minutes to pop 8 oz of corn which is not what is stated on the manual. I emailed Great Northern that night and got a response the very same night. The support was great and very responsive. I had to return the kettle for check up which turned out to be a defective thermostat. It was repaired and returned to me. We are very happy with the purchase and kids love the popcorn we are producing. On Saturday nights, we serve popcorn to 50 kids and so far the popcorn machine is able to handle the load.

I did a fair amount of research before purchasing and believe this to be a good product. It has served well. Easy to use. Clean up is not as easy as I would like but not bad. There is a ridge along the inside bottom that is hard to clean and the kettle can be. Have found the vinegar works great for cleaning kettle. Would like a bigger one for what we do but for small groups will work wonders.

Pros:

~Fairly realistic flames

~For those of you in hot climates who still want to have the calming effects of a fire, you can leave the "flame" on without having the heat on

~"Flame" height can be adjusted high or low

~Temperature can be adjusted

~Feels oh-so-nice when I get in from being out in the freezing Colorado weather I can switch it on, stand in front of it, and get that warm-clothes-from-the-dryer feeling

~Compact, but not so small as to seem Mickey Mousey

~Lightweight easily moveable to other areas of the house

~Quiet the fan is barely audible

~The unit (on the sides, top, and back) does not heat up can touch without getting burned

~Functional door on the front opens up to reveal control panel, or you can control it with the included remote

~Setup was fast my husband had it done in about 5 minutes

Cons:

~We have about a 15' x 15' living area. It is fairly open (no walls between the kitchen & dining room, so adding approximately another 25' x 15' with those two areas), and so the heater doesn't really "warm up" the room. Which is understandable since the space is as open as it is. It does, however, take that little chill out of the air. The furnace kicks on about half as often as before.

~The cord is pretty short I'd estimate probably about 3 feet so you have to either keep it close to the plug in or get an extension cord.

~Remote doesn't work from too far away, and must be basically right in front of the unit to make it work

~If you're really cold (as I am when I come in from being out in the -4 degree air)you have to stand / sit within 3 feet of it or it won't get you warmed up.

Even with the "cons", I LOVE this little heater. It's been really nice to have to take that chill out of the house and to stand next to when coming in out of the cold!

I got this to heat the end of my hallway and the rooms adjacent to it. Instead of plopping down an ugly old space heater I decided to get this. It's a beautiful decoration and it heats very well the hallway and the rooms near it stay nice and warm, just what I needed! The flame isn't THAT realistic but it's probably the best looking flame in an electric stove. The Dimplex flames look more realistic but the fire looks like it's nearly dead, this one looks like it's roaring and alive.

I got my stove just as the wether started changing. I took it out of the box and it was pumping heat right away, I had many compliments on it and it added the perfect mood to my living room. Until about two weeks after it came, that is when it started making this loud whining noise. I thought it was the heater part but after removing the back I found it was the motor that rotated the flame effect. I just disconnected the motor. I am going to contact Duraflame and see what they are going to do. Bottom line is it's a great stove that puts out lots of heat but it shouldn't start breaking after two weeks of use.

I purchased this, after I saw one at a friends house, not this particular one, but really like mine better.

It a little larger, which I like and seems to really do the job. I was on a shoping network reading and

hearing about duraflame, and your price was so much better! It looks nice, I live in senior housing apt. and

I really am happy with it, have it on for the effect sometimes when heat is not needed. Great purchase.

It worked great for about 3 weeks. Of course right after I threw out the box the blower wouldn't do anything anymore. Now I have to find a box big enough to send it back in. If you buy one of these either save the box or send it to me, I could use one right now.

Upon coming across a forum post asking for a heater recommendation, I came to Amazon in search for a purchase link to this particular model. Seeing as it's been given some harsh criticism, I felt obligated to throw in my .02.

First off Don't let the reviews scare you! This is an all-around excellent heater! Mine ran a solid 10 hours per night every night last winter and is already more than earning its keep this season.

The back, sides, and top/bottom of the front stay very cool to the touch. The hardwood directly in front barely gets warm after running all night. Not that it's recommended, obviously, but to make a pointI would not be nervous going to bed with this heater sitting on carpet.

Several people mentioned the carry handle being inadequate, and now that I think of it, it probably is. However, in the event you need to reposition the unit, simply grab it by both sides it's very lightweight and easy to do. Honestly, the thought of using the carry handle for repositioning never crossed my mind until reading a review here. Also, though it's never happened to me, it is fair to say the unit would be fairly easy to knock over due to its weight, or lack thereof, and height. However, the unit does have an excellent tip sensor evidenced by it's immediate cut-off while repositioning.

All in all, this heater does exactly what it was designed to do keep you warm!

I would not hesitate to buy again. Hope this helps!

I bought this heater over a year ago for $60. Originally I used it out in the garage for my friends that smoke. Considering I have an old house, heating it with the gas furnace got very expensive, over $300 / month for a small house. I started using this heater in the house, if I keep it on high it will keep the entire house warm. I generally leave it in my room and leave my room door open so it will heat the house. I recently purchased a second one I seen on sale online for $30. I will place it in the living room so I can keep both on a medium setting.

The downsides to this heater like some have mentioned before is that it does have a bright orange glow so at night this can be a little annoying. It can be uncomfortable to sit in front of due to the type of heat it emits, however it does not heat anything up to the point of being a fire hazard. Mine sits on thick shaggy style carpet. My dog even sleeps in front of the heater occasionally. The other downside to this heater is that it can be easy to tip over. I've never had an issue with this because I always place mine in a corner and face it towards the center of a room.

On another note I seen that someone had commented that this heater doesn't heat up the air well. I would disagree with this, although it may not heat up the air as fast as some fan models, this unit heats up the air evenly and quickly. Not to mention it cut my $300 gas bill to nothing (set my gas furnace to only kick on if temperature drops below 60). My electric bill only went up by about $40. So I gladly pay the $40 extra on my electric bill rather than the $300 to run a gas furnace.

I liked the heater when it worked on both settings. It's quiet and puts out a decent amount of heat. After two weeks it started shutting off after 3-15 minutes on High. Unplugging and turning it to Off for awhile allows it tostart again. It runs all day on Low but, of course, doesn't put out nearly as much heat. The other quibble is the "thermostat" isn't marked with the temperature. I tried to correlate it to a thermometer but found the settings varied quite a bit from day to day. On the plus side the front doesn't get hot and its a fairly attractive heater.

Honest reviews on Sunbeam Tower Portable Room Air Fan Quartz Heater MaxFlow Radiant

In the winter, I needed a heater to warm my bedroom, as it is the coldest room in my house due to my central heater not distributing heat evenly. And after turning on this heater, my room is warmed in 10-15 minutes with the door closed. There is a thermostat on the heater that allows you to put it the hottest it can go or just warm. There are also two heater modes which use different amounts of watts depending on which you prefer. This heater is rather noisy, however, which is why I took of a point. Overall, this buy has been worthwhile, and I would recommend it as a heater to heat a small-medium room.

I liked this heater a lot, I bought it 3 months ago for our bedroom, the coldest room in the house. It sparked the day before yesterday due to no fault on my part. So needless to say, its in the back yard now.. However I called and sunbeam (jarden)was more than happy to help me and they are sending a different model to me next week and I must send the original back. I paid $44 for this heater.

Whether I used a regular mop and bucket, my swiffer wet jet, or my hoover steam vac, I always ended up with a haze on my hardwood floors that I would clean off with a wipe or furniture polish. This is the first machine that leaves my floor shiny and without a haze. It is worth it just for that!!! I also like the job it does on my lineoleum. The first couple of times I used it on what I thought were clean floors because I had recently mopped them, I was surprised at how dirty the water was. After using this as my primary means to clean my floors (two maybe three times a week depending on traffic and what is going on in my household) I notice that my floors not only look cleaner, but also feel much cleaner on the few occassions when I am not wearing house slippers. This is so much better than the regular mopping.

I have read other reviews on the flip-it regarding water being left on the floor; when that does happen, I just go back over that section so that it will be taken care of. For the most part I don't care about a little water on the floor because I would have so much more if I had the mop and bucket or used my steam vac. I am sold!

I was torn between the Hoover and Bissell models each seemed to have good and bad points. So I got both, with the idea that I'd return the one that was less capable to do the job. What I found was that both have different pluses, and ended up keeping them both.

The Spinscrub has the advantage in cleaning power. The spinning brushes do a better job on getting tile floors clean, especially rough surface tile. It's also more sturdily built feels more solid (although that sometimes does not translate into longevity). It's the one I use for large tile expanses, such as in the kitchen and basement. But, the 15 inch width is a drawback in tighter spaces, such as bathrooms.

The Flip-it excels in maneuverability perfect for getting around obstacles (such as the toilet). Although it lacks spinning brushes, it has the advantage of a cloth pad which does a great job on smooth surfaces. The heat also helps out, especially with sticky messes. It doesn't turn the water to steam, but clearly kicks up the temp (I believe the spec's say 25 degrees).

I found the best way to use it is to start with the cloth pad attached. That helps even out the water distribution and also helps capture crumbs, pet hair, etc. After one pass with the cloth attached, remove it and put in the scrubby pad. That helps get the floor 99% dry (smooth surfaces) or 90% dry (rough surfaces).

The cloth pad really shines (no pun intended) when it comes to hardwood or laminate floors. Does a far better job than the Hoover in cleaning and water suction. I don't use the Hoover at all anymore on smooth floors regardless of the size of the room. It may take a bit longer with the Flip-it due to its smaller size, but the end result is much better.

Both are about equal when it comes to disassembly and cleaning a few parts to take out and clean, but nothing major. Cleaning the unit after using it is very important to keep the crud out of the seals to prevent leaks and clogs. Both have a washable filter, and both require that you dry the filter before using it again (tip get an extra filter so you're never without a dry, clean filter).

I tend to favor the smell of the Bissell cleaning solution, but the Hoover stuff is pretty good both have a nice "fresh" smell. Both brands clean equally well, and are priced about the same. Lowes carries the Bissell brand; Walmart carries Hoover (at least in my area).

Bissell tends to be a nicer company when it comes to support. They offer replacement parts and supplies on their website at reasonable prices, and answer emails if you have questions. Hoover is not as responsive, and their direct-purchase prices are rather high.

One nit with the Bissell is that the cord is rather stiff wish it was more flexible. Also, the water cups (both clean and dirty) are smaller on the Bissell, so you need to fill-up and dump out more often than with the Hoover.

Regardless of which one you get, get one! You'll be amazed at the amount of dirt that wet mopping leaves behind. Once you start using one, you'll never pick up a mop again.

Best Deals on BISSELL Flip-!t Select Hard Floor Cleaner with Heat, 7340

I used the Bissell Flip-It Select for the first time tonight. I detest mopping, but with a combination of both linoleum and tile floors in my house, it is a must. So in looking for an alternative to mopping, I hoped for the best with this product. I was not disappointed. Vacuuming first with the dry vacuum side is an excellent alternative to sweeping the floor. After using the wet vacuum side with the heated solution/water mixture, not only was my bathroom linoleum (which had a thick build up of sticky hairspray) cleaned marvelously, but also my tile kitchen floor. The unit is lightweight and easy to use. The filter did get clogged with dirt and hair, but the sound of the motor changed when the suction stopped, so I unplugged it and cleaned the dirty wet/dry container and filter, put it back together, plugged it in, and suction was completely restored. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase after only one use. I will recommend it to friends and family alike.

Honest reviews on BISSELL Flip-!t Select Hard Floor Cleaner with Heat, 7340

This machine is so easy to use! I love the option of cleaning my tile floors with heat or no heat, depending on the grime! The mop pad works very well on my sealed hardwood while the brush worked excellent on my grout! I didn't have to go over anything twice and my floors looked great when I was finished! The "flipping" action is also very easy as this machine is lightweight! I love not having to use a mop and bucket and its even better now that this product offers heated cleaning! Great job!

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for BISSELL Flip-!t Select Hard Floor Cleaner with Heat, 7340

I have carefully analyzed all the reviews (positive and negative) before deciding to buy this product in order that the right level of expectation may be set. My need is very simple. I have almost all hard floors in my house, either tile or hardwood. So floor keeping is a relatively low maintenance chore. I know Flip-It serves both as a dry vacuum and wet mop. Knowing that both dry and wet debris are going into the same place and I want to eliminate the messy task of cleaning out the wet gunk, so I opt to use the cleaner solely as an electric mop.

I like the idea that while it is mopping, the machine can also take care of the small amount of debris that I missed in my "pre-mopped" vacuuming. It does take some practice to get the machine to do the job right. Although I don't have the problem of puddles of water as other have experienced, I have other issue such as the cleaning pad kept sliding out. I find the maneuvering quite exhausting due to the squeegee design. Also, my finger gets very tired from squeezing the solution release button. I don't find the cleaning result dramatic perhaps because my floors are normally quite clean. The machine will not get to the wall edges so it won't eliminate manual laboring. I'm also not sure if the heating feature does anything to produce a cleaner floor since the water temperature does not felt very warm. After two days of experimentation, I decided that the machine is going back to the store. For light mopping, I am going back to my Swiffer Wetjet. It is cheaper, quiet, lighter, easy to use, and best of all, no cleaning up required.

Towel Warmer

I fully understand you cannot ever please everyone. The main reason I like reviews on Amazon is that I can read everything, possibly understand why someone did not like something, see comments others have made about those reasons, and decide for myself if it's something I would still be ok with. This towel warmer is great. I got it as a Christmas gift 2010, and just really like it. I wanted one for my enclosed outdoor gazebo where the hot tub is, and I didn't want something that had to be plugged in and left powered on all the time. I put the towel in when I go into the gazebo, when I take it out to use I immediately drop in my robe so it's warm when I am done with the towel. This is definitely the warmer to make those "right out of the dryer" towels and robes. I have also dropped in socks, sweatpants and shirts on occasion. I have a huge towel that is 5'x7'... it fits in this warmer just fine. I do not roll my towels up as the photos of the item suggest. I hold it by one corner, drop in the opposite corner, and kind of just wiggle the towel down into the warmer, push it down to fit the lid on, and it warms even that huge towel completely.

As for the smell, yes it's noticeable at first, but has already dissipated in mine to where it's barely there anymore. I would suggest turning it on without a towel in it, leave the lid off and let it run the warming cycle. Let it cool down completely, then run it again like that. I can see why it takes awhile to get rid of the smell if you're only turning it on while a towel is in it and the lid is on. The smell has nowhere to go but into your towel!

This was purchased from Brookstone through Amazon, on my husbands account, so it doesn't show that it's a verified Amazon purchase, even though it was.

I got this directly from our local Brookstone due to one of the raters on this item bemoaning having to return (a defective unit?) by mail. I would feel comfortable buying this online here because I'm extremely pleased with the warmer I got locally over 3 weeks ago. (This was originally posted in February 2011.) I've been using it at least once a day and sometimes twice a day from the day I bought it. I would definitely recommend this to someone looking to buy a great working and sturdy towel warmer.

REMEMBER: LARGER THICKER TOWELS TAKE IN MORE HEAT AND RETAIN IT LONGER! Don't be a cheapo and use small flimsy towels. They won't hold heat or warm right.

This warmer is shaped like a trash can, just short of 2' tall and 13" at the widest point. I would have preferred a smaller warmer but am so pleased with the way this unit heats towels I don't care anymore that is larger than I wanted. The cover is clear Plexiglas and you can see the condensation from the warmer drying any damp towel you'd put in there. I have even used it to dry a damp towel before hanging the towel back up. I always warm 2 large bath towels without having to cram them in. It is also large enough to warm jackets, bath robes, reasonably sized blankets, gloves, socks, pants and even shirts or sweatshirts or use your imagination for something you may want warmed. Just be careful when warming things with metal or plastic zippers, buttons, or snaps. It could end up causing something sensitive to become very uncomfortable.

Run the unit open and several times to try and get some of the VERY LIGHT plastic smell out before using this for towels. I like to warm 2 large 5' X 3' plush towels at a time and run the cycle twice. The secret is to start about AT LEAST 15 18 minutes before you plan on getting out of the bath or shower. When the green light goes off wait about 30 to 60 seconds and start the heat cycle again. You may have to wait a bit longer or keep pressing the start button or hold it down a few seconds to start the second cycle. There will still be a VERY SLIGHT plastic smell on the heated towel but nothing enough to be a bother.

Impatient people need not apply. As long as you start it before you bathe or shower it will be ready when you get out if you want to run it 2 times before using the towel(s). I tried to reheat 3 times to see what it would be like but it gets a tad hot and seems overkill.

Other than the larger size which I wish was smaller I easily overlook the size for the benefits the warmer provides. The price is nice too compared to the place that sells bedroom and bathroom things and stuff from beyond. They also carried a smaller warmer that Brookstone and Hamburger Schmuckler also sell but at higher prices that provides less space for smaller towels, uneven warming, and a product defect with the on/off button. The on off button on this model is solid.

I highly recommend this warmer and am looking forward to giving at Christmas this year! I am not easily impressed with things like this one but I am hooked on using this. I make it a point to do a 2 time heat up because I love my towels on the hot side. You won't be disappointed. If you are leery about buying online go and buy one from a brick & mortar Brookstone. That way, if you are unhappy you can return it easily, but I'm pretty sure you will be more than pleased with this warmer.

Another thing to remember is that you can run the heat cycle repeatedly (with a small wait before starting the heat cycle again) and that is great for families or multi person households. The smaller units are only good for one person with a long wait before another family member can use it. Do yourself a favor and use big thick lush towels as they retain the heat better. If you use a cheap flimsy/thin and smaller towel don't expect it to hold heat very long. I have had one wrapped around my drying long hair for nearly 10 minutes and it still feels slightly warm.

This product is also sturdy. If you are careless you could break the cover though but I think you'd have to be a gorilla or child playing the symbols to break it. Check your local Brookstone first because I got mine for $60.00.

3/8/11 Still working strong and to my satisfaction twice daily for just me. I ALWAYS run the warmer for 2 cycles with 2 large plush towels at a time just for me. Remember to wait for about 60 seconds, maybe a tad more before restarting the 2nd heating cycle. I LOVE this machine.

For best results start the heater early. The first heating runs about 15 to 18 minutes and then I wait about 60 seconds or until the button lets you start the heat cycle again. (You may need to hold the button down a tad longer) The second cycle runs about 8 to 10 minutes. If you want to luxuriate in warm towels then you have to take the time to run the warm cycle first. Time it so you start and end your shower or bath 4 to 8 minutes before you get out of the bath or shower. Anyone grumbling about cool towels or towels not staying warm long aren't using good towels and/or are running the warmer the moment they hop in the shower. Give this puppy time to do its work and you be extremely happy and WARM! Try to time it for your shower or bath to end a few minutes after the second cycle shuts off. Hey I know this sounds humbug but man the results are worth it!

I do feel more comfortable for a longer time after my showers now because of the warm towel drying me while keeping me warm unlike the regular cool towel that doesn't warm the cooling water evaporating off of your skin after hopping out of the shower as in the past. I feel warmer and better for a longer time after a shower because of using this.

To be honest I can't think of anything that makes me feel so good that I always look forward to using it and make it a point to prep it the pain in the ass way. I LOVE THIS MACHINE!!

3/17/11 The warmer is still going strong. I was about to throw the box out today and noticed that the receipt stated "We want you to be satisfied. Returns are welcome within 60 days with receipt and packaging. See reverse for policy..." When I saw that I was blown away. Not many people honor a 60 day money back guarantee nowadays. I am impressed again.

1/8/13 The towel warmer is still going strong and I still heat 2 to 3 large towels for 2 heat cycles at a time and this warmer is still rocking away. I LOVE this towel warmer!

My husband bought this towel warmer from amazon and I felt i needed to write a review. The concept of it is wonderful and it does what it is intended to do. It warms up the towel very nicely. Just pop in your towel, hop in the shower, and by the time you are done, the towel is toasty warm for you. This item however, is only used by my husband because I CAN NOT stand the stinky smell of the machine. We have had it for 2 weeks now and as other reviewers said, you must run a few cycles without towels to make the stink go away. Well, i did this every night at least once or twice in the day for a week...without the lid on top to let the stink air out...and it STILL wreaks of something that makes me want to vomit. I even tried to put in dryer sheets in the bottom of the barrel, hoping to get rid of the smell....but to no avail. I never use the warmer because i feel dirty using the towel when i smell the smell comming from the machine. I really wanted this to be fabulous but the smell is just too gross for me. On the other hand,if you are like my husband and dont mind the yucky smell after a nice clean shower, then you may like this. I like clean fresh smells....especially after a shower.

*If you have sensitivity to smells then this is not for you.

Bought this in Dec 2010. Worked until now but when it broke it really broke. The auto shutoff stopped working so the towel it was warming started to burn. Luckily I caught it before there were flames but there was definitely the smell of smoldering towel. The towel was almost too hot to touch. I took it straight to the bathtub and gave it a good soaking.

Bottom line: Don't ever leave this device unattended. It is a potential fire hazard.

Called Brookstone and they are replacing it under warranty.

I will begin my review saying I may have just gotten a lemon and plan on exchanging the product for a replacement. But here goes my experience so far:

Ordered the product for Christmas and 1 week later I am returning it. The fumes coming off the warmer are disgusting. It's smells like motor vehicle exhaust like noxious fumes! I have run the product through 20-25 cycles with the lid off and no towel insideit still smells as bad as day 1. It accutally smells up the entire apartment. I have run it another 10 times with towels inside. After about three days I noticed the unit doesn't always turn off after 10 minutes like it is designed to. One day I was running a cycle to try and "burn off" the odor and came back 2 hours later to check and the green light was still on! Can we say fire hazard. 5 days after the initial use, we have noticed there are warm and cold spots on the towels indicating some of the heating element is broken. I contacted amazon for an exchange and the product must be exchanged directly to Brookstone. They emailed me a RMA # and return address label WITH NO POSTAGE. They expect you to pay to ship back the defective product. I immediately called amazon and was connected with Brookstone. They said I can return it directly to a local store which I will do this evening. There was another review stating that the local Brookstone would not accept returns from amazon purchased Brookstone products. I will find out tonight and update the review accordingly.

Hi, My name is Eric. I have thought about getting one of these infrared heaters for the past couple months now. I live in Southern Indiana, in a well insulated bedford stone home. We have right at 1000 sq. feet. Our main source of heating is an electric heat pump, with baseboard heating as a supplement. I am a Realtor, so I see a lot of homes and I thought if this heater would work for a home it would be mine, because of the size and the great amount of insulation I have. For people that don't know, Bedford stone homes are very solid, and in most cases well insulated. I did my research on these infrared heaters. I have probably read through hundreds of reviews trying to find the best heater. What I found out was that for every heater out there your probably going to find a few bad reviews. People have to understand that every home is different and what works for some might not work for others. Main things you have to take in to consideration is the amount of insulation, celing heights, and amount of sq. feet you are trying to heat. Instead of me telling you all the different sites out there that I went to, I'm just gonna tell you what I found out. Even the more expensive brands like Comfort furnace and Eden pure, who sell over $300. dollars have some very bad reviews. My office has an Eden pure and it heats my particular office which is 15 x 13 with an 8 foot celing and on the second level. It will not heat the entire upstairs, which includes a hallway and three other offices.(less that 1000 sq. feet. I think this brand is way over priced. I came across the Duraflame Quartz heater. I liked how simple it seemed. No high, medium, or low. Just turn it on and set your degrees. Plus it came in at $212. So I went with this one. I ordered it on a thursday night and it came the next friday.(which was 3 days ago. 12/16/11.) I unboxed the heater and it looked great. Big in size but very impressive. I plugged it in and only smelled the burnt plastic smell for 10 minutes. Which every infrared heater on the market will tell you that you might smell this smell with the first few uses. With the first two nights of use, the temps. got into the high 20's. I set my home thermostat to 66 degrees. I set my thermostat on the heater to 74 degrees. My heat pump has not kicked on one time since I turned the heater on. The home thermostat has not dropped below 70 degrees. This unit has absolutely amazed me so far. Every inch of my home is warm. The g/f and I love this heater. I am not too worried about when temps get in the teens and even colder because I can turn this infrared heater up another 15 degrees or so. The unit gets the home to a set temp and then shuts its self off untill it drops a couple degrees below the set temp. I definitely recommend this heater. I could not be more happy with my purchase. As far as energy savings, I can't say yet. But I know it takes less energy to run this heater than it does my heat pump. So I'm sure I will be satisfied when the bill arrives. THIS HEATER IS WONDERFUL.

What a beautiful quartz heater. It is like a piece of furniture. We live in an old farmhouse in Northeast PA. Lots of drafts in the kitchen where we placed this unit. We used to have to eat in the dining room during the cold winter months but are now able to sit at the kitchen table, thanks to this heater. The cord and wheels allow you to aim it at the sink or stove or anywhere you are working. With the price of heating oil over $3.10/gallon, this has helped to keep the kitchen warm. Thanks!!

I live in Ohio in a small wood frame country home. My main source of heat in the winter is a forced air propane furnace. Propane is very expensive and I bought this Duraflame heater to help keep my heating bill down. It is in my livingroom which is about 14' x 18' with 9' ceiling. The heater is a beautiful peice of furniture. Very attractive wood, and it is quite heavy, which I think is always a sign of quality construction. I have to admit that this unit has kept my furnace from running so far, however, we haven't had any really cold weather yet. BUT, we have had a couple cold nights in the 30's and the heater couldn't keep up. I have a feeling that when the weather turns really cold this heater isn't going to do much good. It seems to be great for cool weather but not for the really cold stuff.

The thermostat on my unit is absolutely useless. The thermostat setting displayed on the unit dosen't seem to have anything to do with the real world. You have to find a setting that is close to what you want and don't pay any attention to the digital display. It is a very quiet unit, which is nice. Overall I think if you live in an area with a mild climate, this is a nice unit and worth the money. However if you live in an area where winters are really cold, you will need something more powerful. There is no way this unit will heat a 1000' sq. ft. area as advertised unless the ceiling is only about 6" high.

Honest reviews on Duraflame Livingston Portable Heater, 10HM2273-W505

I purchased one that looks identical to this one down to a look alike remote.

I have been using it for the last 2 month in southern Colorado. I am using this unit is an 1800sf modular with vaulted ceilings.

It is indeed a single room heater and has smooth wheels to move around room to room. I have it set at 75 degrees keeping the room at 67 degrees at 10 degree outside.

There is an air filter in the rear and if it is not kept clean the heater will shut down and cause you to believe you have a problem unit. But just unclip the filter and wash or vacuum and you are in good shape again. I have three dogs so I probably have to clean mine more ofter than others might, once a week.

If I did not have 2 other upright quartz heaters I would absolutely buy another one or two. Also very quite.

This unit is very handsome looking and the cabinet is surprisingly high quality. You can use this as a piece of furniture next to say a couch or chair. The BTU rating is claimed to be over 5000 BTU. I'm not sure if this is accurate. I am using it in a 750 Sq. Ft room and it has trouble warming it. Mind you, I have tall ceilings so it may be the room design but I'm just not sure if it is actually reasonable to rate it at 5200 BTU. The air flow from the unit seems to be mild. But overall it's a nice looking unit and it does emit warm air and it's not very loud. Just make sure you are using it in a small room with good insulation or you may be disappointed.

I just purchased this heater to heat an 8-12 room and it works very well. There have been no overheating problems, the fan is reasonably quiet, and the room is heated very quickly. The tip-over safety device works extremely well, as does the thermostat; however, one doesn't set a particular temperature in degrees, once the room is warm enough the thermostat is adjusted until the unit just goes off and then it maintains that temperature. All metal construction, looks well built, sturdy, and durable.

Works well but fan motor makes rattling noise that can distracting if you are using in a sleeping area. Unit is bigger than my old milkhouse type heater and I do like this size better. The controls are good and easy to set. It does give the option of 750 or 1500 hundred watt settings.

I live in San Antonio, so winters are not as drastic as farther north; however, we do have months of 40-degree nights. I use this in my efficiency (250 sqft). It is powerful for such a small heater and works well to keep the place warm. On coldest nights I supplement it in the mornings by turning on a couple of my gas stove burners for 30 minutes. This is the only heating system I use and am happy with it.

The heater is not decorative, but is solid and sturdy; the fan works great, it is fairly quiet, thermostat is a nice feature to set at night, and it is small enough to work around easily in my tiny place.

I have gone through many nicer-looking heaters which would work for a year, then overheat. This seems as if it is made to last. No oscillation, unfortunately, but the quality and value make up for that. I turn my ceiling fan on low winter setting to circulate the heat and stay cozy.

Would recommend to anyone looking to heat a small place or maybe one room in colder winter weather.

Honest reviews on Geneva Industrial Group Westpointe LH-879 750/1500-WattMilk House

I like this style/type of space heater because I think it is safer--the heating element is not close to the front. And the heater has a fan to disperse the heat.

This heater is easily set for the temperature you want in a room by following the instructions. Basically, when the room reaches the comfort level you want, you turn the dial slowly until the heater shuts off ... and then it will come back on when the temperature drops below a certain level. I like that it shuts off and comes back on this way because some heaters have sensors or dials that don't measure the temperature as accurately, and I have found myself resetting them during the night. What a bother.

I use a Sharpie pen to mark the setting for each of the space heaters and this works very well for me. I turn them off when I leave the house. During the night, I use one or two, one for my parrot--he's used one for years. His stays on when I leave the house, but the range is then set lower--only comes on if the temperature drops below 50 degrees. Has only happened when I arrived home after dark, and found the heater on, so I know the heater works well. He has a thermometer attached to the lower level of his cage.

My parrot is 32 yrs. old and this system has worked for us. He's healthy and has survived well our transplant from California to Missouri. We've lived in MO now since 2001.

I clean the space heaters carefully with a small attachment to the vacuum cleaner to remove dust. I don't open the unit. After two years I replace them for safety reasons. This Geneva unit is the latest available milk house type and it works just as I described. I recommend it and emphasize the fact that If used as recommended in the instructions, the unit is safe.

I don't ever run any heaters full bore for any length of time. Instead, I'll use two separate heaters, each with a little different setting.

By the way, I have ceiling fans, and I reverse the blades so they turn clockwise in winter. The heat then goes down. It helps.

I ALREADY OWN ANOTHER MILK HOUSE HEATER AND WHEN I WENT LOOKING FOR ADDITIONAL UNITS I HAD NO LUCK. I DECIDED TO SEARCH AMAZON.COM FOR SIMILAR MODELS. RESULT:

I ORDERED FOUR OF THE MODEL IN THE TITLE AND THEY TRULY ACT LIKE LITTLE FURNACES! I ONLY WANT TO KEEP THEM ON HAND TO SUPPLEMENT HEAT IN INDIVIDUAL ROOM'S ON REALLY COLD DAYS. THIS MODEL IS APPROX THE SAME SIZE AS MY ORIGINAL, THOUGH NOT NEARLY AS SUBSTANTIAL IN WEIGHT. THIS BIT OF A DIFFERENCE REALLY DOESN'T CONCERN ME BECAUSE AT NO TIME WILL THESE MODELS BE ON HAZARDOUS DUTY. THE PRICE ALSO CUSHIONED ANY CONCERNS I MIGHT HAVE HAD. MY FIRST HEATER COST ME NEARLY THREE AND A HALF TIMES WHAT EACH OF THESE HEATERS COST ME. NOTE: THEY BOTH HAVE SIMILAR SAFETY FEATURES.

As it comes delivered this thing is a completely worthless leaking fire hazard that will ruin your bottles you are trying to fill as well as the bottle you are filling with.... Being a Marine Engineer I had all the tools to make this piece work, but at a low hourly rate it would have cost me $60.00 to make this thing useable.... The outer threads needed machined to fit this in the filling bottle first, just to find out that the stem inside was machined wrong and slicing the tiny seals in my one pound bottles to be filled, so fixed that next just to find out that the red sealing gasket for the one pound bottles in this thing is not a gasket at all and leaked more propane than it put in the bottles.... So.... then I had to make a proper sealing gasket as well.... One thing after another, should have just sent it back when I noticed the first problem I guess, but, hours later and I have this this thing re-machined and gasketed so that it actually works, and it only ruined one of my one pound bottles.... My advice is do not buy any one of these that has a red sealing surface inside that mates up with your one pound bottles, my guess is that there a lot of places re-branding this one bad unit with the red sealing surface inside so check the pictures....

After reading the low star ratings, I was hesitant in ordering this. But I decided to give it a try. When I received it, I tried it out going against the suggestions about freezing the bottles. The propane leaked and did not fill the bottle at all. I thought "Son of a crap, it's not going to work." But after putting the bottles in the freezer for a couple of hours and trying it again, it worked better than expected. I had the source tank upside down and it caused the neck of the disposable to bend a little because of the fast temperature change and the weight of the propane going into the bottle pulling it down. (That's my guess why) So next time I will try laying the source tank on its side. That will also help keep any particles that were in the source tank from going in.

I have been using these couplers for years. I gave my first one to a friend and ordered this one for myself. They are so handy and easy to use. Just screw it on, tip the 20# tank upside down, open the valve for a minute and it's full. It gives you the small propane refilled, almost for free.

This is a very decent heater. It's small, nearly silent, and appears to be quite safe. So far, I've been using mine in a standard-sized bedroom, which is efficiently fills with warm air. I haven't tried it in a larger space, but since it so easily heats the air in my bedroom, I'm assuming it's capable of something larger as well.

The number one concern with a space heater is safety. After running this unit on high for a few hours, the plastic body was still cool to the touch. Of course the metal face plate where the heat is discharged gets quite hot, but it changes to a glowing red color, so you don't accidentally touch it.

Use an extension cord at your own risk. Holmes doesn't recommend it, but since the supplied cord is only a few feet, you basically have no choice unless you want it really close to the wall (also not a good idea). It draws about 1500 watts, so you'll want a very heavy duty extension cord rating 1875 watts or better, 14 gauge or less. I picked one up specifically to use with this heater and it DOES get warm after a while. The extension cord wasn't dangerously hot or anything, but its temperature did begin to rise slightly.

Basically, you just need to be sensible: don't leave the heater running unattended, don't run the cord under carpet, unplug the unit from the wall when it's not in use, don't try to use a conventional household extension cord, don't plug anything else into the outlet that you use for this, etc. etc. standard stuff. This applies for any space heater, of course.

It has an auto-shutdown feature if its tipped over or becomes too hot. Again, you just need to be sensible and not use it by flammable materials or around children. I chose this unit specifically for its excellent safety features, so based on my research on what's currently available at Target/WalMart/Etc. in the $30-100 range, I'm confident that, if used correctly, this is a good bet for safe, effective heating.

There is a thermostat built in with a variety of settings. It has five levels between 60 and 80 degrees, with each available in both "high" and "low". It also has a general "always on" mode where you can set it on high or on low. I'm a bit skeptical as to the efficacy of the thermostat. For a $30-40 unit, I wouldn't expect anything super-precise or anything. It's very general from what I can tell.

I can definitely recommend this to anyone wanted to efficiently heat anything around 10x14 or so. Again, it probably works in a bigger area, but I haven't tried it. Be safe and enjoy.

Unlike the other customers, I have had great success with this product. The small heater keeps my large bedroom warm through out the night. The heater has two settings, high and low, and it also has a setting where it will keep the room at a constant temperatrue setting up to 89 degrees. It can also be set to come on automatically. I have not had any problems with a bad smell . Great product give it a try if you are wanting to heat only one room in your house to save money. I like it so much, I bought two.

Best Deals on Holmes HCH6150-UM Triple Ceramic Tower

Only buy this if you can find it cheaper. I bought this from my wholesale club for 40 dollars. Otherwise it's not worth the money. When I originally bought this heater, I grabbed it from the top and moved it to another location in my room. After doing that, it made a really bad cranking noise every time it oscillated. I exchanged it after a week. The new heater doesn't have that problem. But I did notice this new heater blows cold air out the bottom. The manual says it will blow cold air once it reaches desired temperature to prevent overheating. But mine blows cold air on bottom as soon as you turn it on, before the temperature even gets adjusted. I'm just going to keep this one b/c its a hassle to drive and return it. The cold air blowing on bottom prevents my floor and nearby rug from getting heated so I guess that's a plus. And after leaving the heater on for a few minutes, the cold air seems to go away.

If you decide to buy this, just make sure you don't move the heater around alot. Its made of cheap plastic and the inside structure does not seem that stable. So leaving it in the center of the room should suffice. If you do decide to move it, hold it gently by the bottom base, don't grab it from the top. They didn't put handles on this thing so I guess it's not meant to be moved around a lot.

In terms of heating, it does a good job. I have a 12 x 9 ft bedroom and this heater can warm up the room in about 15 min. It has a programmable thermostat which will automatically shut off when desired room temp is reached. There is also a remote which I can program from my bed which I like.

In terms of the smell, it does have a heated plastic smell when you first turn it on, but the smell goes away after a while.

I am not sure how much electricity it uses since I haven't gotten my bill yet but since my family doesn't want to turn on heat yet for the whole entire house, this works just fine to heat up a small room.

Honest reviews on Holmes HCH6150-UM Triple Ceramic Tower

We've had this heater for two months now, and it is a complete piece of junk. It only ever seems to put out cold air. It says it will only blow cold air to keep an accurate temperature reading, or to not overheat, but it doesn't blow hot air enough to get even warm to the touch! Every now and then it will put out a little heat, but only for a minute or two, then it goes back to cold air. I thought I bought a heater, not a fan. It is going back to the store this weekend. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS HEATER!

I purchased this heater a couple of years ago and have used it off and on since then. It will do a decent job at heating a small area, but there are a few issues I have with it.

First the positives; as I said, the unit does a good job of heating a small or medium room, provided it is mostly enclosed. For example, a bedroom or office will get nice and warm, but if you're trying to heat a larger room or a room that has no doors and is open to other areas, you will not get a significant increase in room temperature.

The remote was nice -I have since lost mine -and allows you to control the unit from, say, the comfort of your bed. You will need to get up and walk over to the heater itself in order to use some functions, but it's a nice thing to have.

This heater has a timer function that allows you to essentially start a count-down 'til when you want the heater to turn on. This is pretty useful for having it heat your bedroom an hour or so before you get up, instead of having the unit running all night or having the room be freezing.

Now the negatives; first and foremost, I'll mention my issue with the heater's built-in thermostat/thermometer. On the heater's display, you can view what the unit believes is the room's current temperature. This is most useful when putting the heater in "Auto" mode, where you can set a certain temperature for the room and the heater will turn off and on based on your particular comfort level. However, the problem with the design of the heater's thermostat is that, I believe, it is located too close to the unit's heating elements and is also probably too enclosed within the casing. I say this because when you first plug the heater in, it will give you an accurate room temperature reading. I have verified this using an indoor/outdoor weather thermometer, as well as my apartment's existing room thermostats. As the heater is operating and warms up, however, the difference between the room's actual temperature and the heater's measure of the room's temp increases. This is an issue because the heater will often turn off prematurely; for e.g. it may think the room's temperature is 70 degrees when it is actually as low as 65. This can make setting the heater's auto temperature shut-off a bit of hit-or-miss guesswork, a skill I have yet to acquire even after two winters with the device.

The timer option I mentioned earlier is a nice feature, but it only allows you to set full, whole hours. It would be nice if you could set it to be more specific, like .5 hrs. increments, since the whole point of the timer is to essentially save money. Also, the timer only works to count-down to then the unit will turn on. It will not "count-up" to when you'd like it to shut off. So if you forget to turn it off and leave the house, it'll run the entire time.

Another issue that may just be my personal perception is that the oscillating option is a bit useless. Unless you have a bunch of people crowded around the heater, the unit's fans aren't strong enough where turning on oscillation would increase the unit's efficiency.

One more point that is really just a nit-picking thing; the display on the heater is a very bright green which may be an issue for you if you have the timer set at night and are trying to sleep. Again, I realize that's a bit of a trivial issue, but I know it was a bit annoying for me and may be for others.

Overall, this unit was, as I said, decent. I wouldn't spend more than 45 $ or so for this and if you check Consumer Reports, they always have a list of the year's most efficient stand-alone heaters. I know for a fact this Holmes Tower isn't on there.
