I am amazed at how efficiently this heater operates. We have it placed in our living room and run it on the low 400 watt setting for about an hour or two in the evening when the temps drop below 40 and it does a better job than our 1500 watt electric baseboard heater does running double that time. This will make a big difference in our energy cost bottom line. Very quiet too! Big Thumbs up!

In terms of heat output, this is a great appliance. I live in California where central heating is not normal, but where it still gets cold in the evenings, especially during the winter months. I picked this heater up at a Black Friday special and I wasn't expecting a lot from it, but was pleasantly surprised. Even on the low heat setting, its output is sufficient to keep my room toasty. Now, for the caution, and reason for a two-star rating:

The safety switch on the bottom is flaky, at best; sometimes it works, but more often it sticks and won't shut off the heater. One night, a pillow fell from my bed and landed on the heater, leaving the heater partially tilted (and in such a position that it would have shut off had the safety switch been working properly). My pillow burned on a slow smolder, filling my entire bedroom with a very thick, very dangerous black smoke that would have killed me if the alarm hadn't gone off when it did. Also, it burned long enough that the plastic frame holding in the metal grate on the heater's front has partially melted.

So, if you're going to use this heater, do not leave it running while you're sleeping or otherwise not attending it. Make sure it has a HUGE clearance on all sides. And definitely, do NOT expect that the safety switch will work.

I purchased this heater for a medium size bedroom. It works great on the high setting and heats the room up very fast. Once the room heats up the low setting maintains the warmth. I love the oscillating feature because it distributes the heat more evenly. The heat replicates the sun rays and is good for me because I suffer from seasonal affective disorder. Living in the northern states during the winter with the lack of sun is depressing but this heater makes me feel like I basking in the sun. I have noticed that my two cats love the sun-like warmth of the heater. They like to sleep and groom near it. Again a good heater for the price. I have purchased higher priced heaters and was not as pleased as I am with this one.

Honest reviews on Soleus Air HR3-08-21, Oscillating Reflective Heater, Black

Heater is very lightweight, as in thin plastic.

I use an under-desk heater year round, and this has saved me quite a bit in electricity bills. The low and high settings make it usable for under-desk, although it is pretty overkill.

Unit is about 2.5 feet tall, so keep that in mind.

On high with oscillation, it can easily heat a very large room.

Have owned it for 5 months now with no issues.

Purchased this heater for just basic heating and was pleasently surprised at the amount of heat this heater put out. I would recommend this purchase to anyone. If you have a room you want to heat and do it resaonably cheat. This heater is the one you should purchase.

Better than I expected for less than $200. It looks as real as you can expect an electric fireplace to be, and having two heat settings is nice. It will definitely warm up a regular sized room on high, and low will keep the room toasty afterwards. It comes with a bracket that you hang it off of, but I went a little further and used two holes inside the cabinet to secure it to the wall with some screws and drywall anchors.

We've had our fireplace for just a few days now and so far we love it. It is beautiful and it looks to be high quality. It was easy to mount on the wall. I would like to find some sort of heat deflector for it, because it does make the wall very hot where the heat blows out at the top.

One bracket to mount to the wall & I was in business...been providing plenty of heat for my man cave even on the coldest PA winter days. Very happy with this purchase: it looks great & works great. The fan MAY be too loud for some people, but for those like me (who usually have the TV on), it is not even noticeable.

Yes, I'm a real customer.

Yes, I actually bought AND use this product.

Yes, I filled this out voluntarily.

I love this item. It heats my 18x13 room comfortably. I had company over after my son's baptism and yes, it was the talk of the day. Thanks for being truthful about your product. It is beautiful and efficient. Everything worked. The vent on the top caused me to have to make a deflector for heat, but it was not a problem. I simply got my husband to build a shelf and put tin underneath. Now, I do not worry about the heat interfering with the life of my flat screen TV hanging above it. It is a "must buy now" product. What are you waiting for?

Thanks

Lovely to watch, generates appropriate level of warmth. As a wall hung unit the warmth is sent above my head, though. Still, I like it.

This heater has two settings, but the low is about the same heat as a hair dryer. The higher setting is, well, like two hair dryers. The switches are on the top left side so they are easy to get to and don't show much. The product description said it had a thermostat and a remote. It does not. I have used it in a 9 x 12 room as back up heat when I turn the house furnace down and I have been comfortable. But the thing about this heater is, it really is so cute you may be tempted to forgive it for it's heat output. You may even want to carry it from room to room, which is what I did. But it wasn't easy. It is pretty heavy for me. It is a flat black metal and a pretty old fashioned design, an arched wheat design, with very realistic flame and glowing coals (even when I replaced the 2 to watt candelabra bulbs with 15 watt bulbs to save electricity.) The weather was so dismal here lately in Colorado, I took it into the living room just to enjoy the fireplace and ended up dragging it in front of the couch and warming my feet with it.

It came in a badly damaged box with a broken leg, which I repaired with JB Weld instead of returning. UPS beat it up, but it did not have adequate packing to begin with. After getting a second electric stove of a different brand, I would say the Vernon was overpriced.

Post Script. I have been using this heater throughout the winter. I suspect it is quite the energy hog. It has tripped my breaker more than once. It would probably be more effective in a very small room, but it does take the chill off the above mentioned room.

I think it will make a very pretty end table with a plant on top of it.

The 3-D Electric Fireplace has been around a couple of years now, but the cost was still fairly high. Now, it has come down to just at $100. The 3-D flame has improved vastly over the earlier drum-light type to the point that it's hard to tell if it is real or not. I bought mine through Amazon.com, and was pleasantly surprised too, at the low shipping costs!

If there is a drawback, it would be that I will have to add my own stovepipe if I want authenticity, but that isn't a real big problem.

I am very, very happy with my purchase!

For many years, I have had a fireplace to add enjoyment to our ND snowy winters---1st, a wood burner, and then a gas fireplace. The woodstove was the real deal, along with messiness and work. The gas(with a remote) was the best---in my opinion--no fuss and yet a real fire. Recently, I moved into a small apartment, without any fireplace. I went looking for the feeling of cozy, a 'pretend' fire, and found it in my new Vernon Electric Stove. The 'logs' shine more than glow, but the dancing 'fire' met my expectations in an electric stove at this price--it gave me cute and cozy, exactly what I wanted. The weather has been too warm to review how it heats, but I turned on the fan and it does blow out heat, so I am sure it will give me the extra heat where I want it.

my friend was going on and on about her new heater and I wondered how anyone could get that excited over an appliance. When I saw it I knew I must have one and as I live far out of the city I ordered on Amazon to be delivered. When the package came I heard some slight rattling in the box, and was very disappointed that it made a constant clicking clunking noise when operating. It worked well, put out great heat at lowest setting and was gorgeous. I remembered I had read reviews that another brand made noise so I specifically order this brand instead.( I took the noise to be just a normal part of the mechanism) I went back online and found a review ( of another similar brand)that referred to the same noise and the guy said he opened it up and the rotating rod was just off its mount. SO I bravely unscewed ( about a dozen screws)the back ( Firesense customer support was available),and it was a simple matter to put the rod back in its place and it works great with only the low fan sound. Im writing this for anyone who may have this experience and save them the trouble of sending it back or returning a great product unecessarily.

Upon coming across a forum post asking for a heater recommendation, I came to Amazon in search for a purchase link to this particular model. Seeing as it's been given some harsh criticism, I felt obligated to throw in my .02.

First off Don't let the reviews scare you! This is an all-around excellent heater! Mine ran a solid 10 hours per night every night last winter and is already more than earning its keep this season.

The back, sides, and top/bottom of the front stay very cool to the touch. The hardwood directly in front barely gets warm after running all night. Not that it's recommended, obviously, but to make a pointI would not be nervous going to bed with this heater sitting on carpet.

Several people mentioned the carry handle being inadequate, and now that I think of it, it probably is. However, in the event you need to reposition the unit, simply grab it by both sides it's very lightweight and easy to do. Honestly, the thought of using the carry handle for repositioning never crossed my mind until reading a review here. Also, though it's never happened to me, it is fair to say the unit would be fairly easy to knock over due to its weight, or lack thereof, and height. However, the unit does have an excellent tip sensor evidenced by it's immediate cut-off while repositioning.

All in all, this heater does exactly what it was designed to do keep you warm!

I would not hesitate to buy again. Hope this helps!

I bought this heater over a year ago for $60. Originally I used it out in the garage for my friends that smoke. Considering I have an old house, heating it with the gas furnace got very expensive, over $300 / month for a small house. I started using this heater in the house, if I keep it on high it will keep the entire house warm. I generally leave it in my room and leave my room door open so it will heat the house. I recently purchased a second one I seen on sale online for $30. I will place it in the living room so I can keep both on a medium setting.

The downsides to this heater like some have mentioned before is that it does have a bright orange glow so at night this can be a little annoying. It can be uncomfortable to sit in front of due to the type of heat it emits, however it does not heat anything up to the point of being a fire hazard. Mine sits on thick shaggy style carpet. My dog even sleeps in front of the heater occasionally. The other downside to this heater is that it can be easy to tip over. I've never had an issue with this because I always place mine in a corner and face it towards the center of a room.

On another note I seen that someone had commented that this heater doesn't heat up the air well. I would disagree with this, although it may not heat up the air as fast as some fan models, this unit heats up the air evenly and quickly. Not to mention it cut my $300 gas bill to nothing (set my gas furnace to only kick on if temperature drops below 60). My electric bill only went up by about $40. So I gladly pay the $40 extra on my electric bill rather than the $300 to run a gas furnace.

I liked the heater when it worked on both settings. It's quiet and puts out a decent amount of heat. After two weeks it started shutting off after 3-15 minutes on High. Unplugging and turning it to Off for awhile allows it tostart again. It runs all day on Low but, of course, doesn't put out nearly as much heat. The other quibble is the "thermostat" isn't marked with the temperature. I tried to correlate it to a thermometer but found the settings varied quite a bit from day to day. On the plus side the front doesn't get hot and its a fairly attractive heater.

Honest reviews on Sunbeam Tower Portable Room Air Fan Quartz Heater MaxFlow Radiant

In the winter, I needed a heater to warm my bedroom, as it is the coldest room in my house due to my central heater not distributing heat evenly. And after turning on this heater, my room is warmed in 10-15 minutes with the door closed. There is a thermostat on the heater that allows you to put it the hottest it can go or just warm. There are also two heater modes which use different amounts of watts depending on which you prefer. This heater is rather noisy, however, which is why I took of a point. Overall, this buy has been worthwhile, and I would recommend it as a heater to heat a small-medium room.

I liked this heater a lot, I bought it 3 months ago for our bedroom, the coldest room in the house. It sparked the day before yesterday due to no fault on my part. So needless to say, its in the back yard now.. However I called and sunbeam (jarden)was more than happy to help me and they are sending a different model to me next week and I must send the original back. I paid $44 for this heater.

ShelterLogic Backyard Storage Series Covered Firewood Rack, Black, 4-Feet
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

Purchased two 12 ft. Shelterlogic firewood racks. Product arrived within two days (not from Amazon.) The firewood racks of respectable quality. The hardware to assemble the units was complete; both units arrived with one spare bolt, nut and two extra washers. The assembly is simple and can be completed within 10 minutes. While the quality of the Shelterlogic rack doesn't come close to the unparalleled strength, precision, and stability of the Woodhaven firewood racks (which I own as well), the price / quality ratio of the 12 ft. Shelterlogic firewood rack is certainly excellent in comparison. One feature I deplore on the Shelterlogic rack is the 15 1/2 inch width (compared to the 14 inch width of the Woodhaven racks). While the wider rack may, theoretically, improve stability, I favor the 14 inch width. The slightly narrower rack allows for smaller / irregular logs. In any case, adequate and weather & ground-appropriate footing / base for the racks is indispensable to avoid sinking or leaning of the rack leading to the rack falling over when fully loaded. The rack comes with a partial cover, ideal for the correct aeration of the firewood.

This rack is a nice concept, but it's implemented so cheaply that I'll be surprised if it's still upright this spring:

The front-to-back stretchers sit in between the base sections (or the base and end sections). They only connect to one of the through bolts though. You get two washers to fill in the space on the other bolt! Oh, and by the way they DON'T give you washers for ends of these bolts.

Once I started tightening up all the bolts, the tube steel started to crush and go out of round. I'm not using some huge wrench here either. Standard 3/8" drive ratchet. I should have returned it at this point...

I got the rack about half loaded, and the legs started to buckle. Since the front/back stretchers only connect to one bolt, they don't prevent the legs from twisting out of shape. I finished without it collapsing, but now I mostly have to hope that when it goes, it falls away from the garage.

The cover only really works if your logs aren't much longer than the rack is deep. Standard 16-18" fireplace wood is OK (this is what I have). If you are running a wood burning stove that takes 20"+ pieces forget the cover completely.

This rack would be OK if I'd gone down to the "big box store" and picked up some ¼" plate steel to replace the stretchers. I'd have made new ones wide enough to cover both bolts; then used the supplied washers on the ends of the bolt. The manufacturer should supply it this way.

Best Deals on ShelterLogic Backyard Storage Series Covered Firewood Rack

I purchased two racks, liked them enough to purchase two more.

Pros:

Simple to assemble

nice looking

do what they are supposed too (keep wood off the ground and dry).

Nice cover keeps the rain off the top, allows air to circulate to encourage drying.

Cons:

Feet need to be on block or brick. Weight of wood will drive rack into ground.

Not very stable. Again, needs to be on bricks or deck/concrete. If not, one leg can twist and whole rack goes cockeyed.

The two halves are joined by metal plates that go just though one of two holes (the top hole of each section.) When tightening, the space these plates add cause the lower half to draw in more than the upper, causing the end pieces to angle outwards a little. They should have provided two plates or one larger plate.

You can't tighten the bolts very much. There is a point where tubing begins to deform and that is all you can do. It doesn't seem to take much strength, but the racks do seem to hold up fine. Again, best if the feet are supported so they don't sink.

I see the cons take up more space than the pros but, in fact, it is fine as long as you support the feet.

Honest reviews on ShelterLogic Backyard Storage Series Covered Firewood Rack

Whoever buys one of these wood racks should be prepared to be totally ignored by the company. After about a Dozen calls and six or seven messages the company has not gotten back with me concerning broken parts. They DO NOT EVER answer their phones, but do send you into voice mail, and then Not return calls.

this is ok. we use it on the deck, and transfer wood too it periodically. 1) it doesn't hold a lot of wood: if you want to use the cover, which u obviously do, the cover doesn't fit if you fill anywhere near the top, and this measures 4 feet on the outside of the tubing, so you're giving up stacking space on all sides, and 2) I had to put down a 4' by 18" piece of plywood because many logs aren't this long and fall through; you can always line the bottom and the sides with the longer logs. Doesn't feel like it'll last forever, but nor am I

King Pellet 48,000 BTU Stove with Igniter and Exhaust Blower #5500
Customer Ratings: 3 stars

I purchased this stove 11/04/2010. I was attracted to the stove by its looks, styling, btu rating and hopper capacity. When I started the stove after the "dry run" to season and burn it in, the stove performed very well. Everything worked flawlessly and it heated very well. I am using this stove as a supplemental source of heating. The next day, my wife and I noticed the room blower fan was getting noisy. It got progressively louder until the fan motor seized and blew the fuse. I replaced the fuse and removed the blower assembly. I got the fan freed up, reinstalled it, and started the stove. The blower was even louder than before and failed again. I have requested another blower assembly from US Stove Company. They were courteous and are sending me a new blower assembly at no cost, including shipping.

Overall, the stove is good. It heats well. This stove is classified by the manufacturer as a "shop heater", not a residential heating stove; yet the stove qualifies for the 2010 heating tax deduction of up to $1,500. The stove is installed in our walk-out basement, which is 1,600 square feet. The basement, the upstairs foyer and bedrooms were warm and my boiler didn't run often when the stove was operating. The stove is semi-easy to clean (no ash pan) and the parts/mechanicals are easy to access for service. Since there is no removable ash pan for cleaning, It takes 5 minutes to clean the stove using a ShopVac.

Ash accumulation is contained in the combustion/firebox, does not leak out of the door seals, and has the consistency of flour. The stove burns the pellets completely. There is no smoke emission from the chimney. My wife enjoys the stove's automatic self-ignition upon start up. I enjoy the stove's 120 lb hopper capacity. 1 bag of pellets will last approximately 10 hours with the stove's heating range set to 2-3. The stove has 5 heat range settings, 1 being lowest and 5 being highest. I fully expect this stove to greatly reduce my heating bills this coming winter. The basement was very cozy with the stove on.

This will be a very good investment if the room blower unit is repaired and stays operational.

Update: 11/30/2010

The new room fan is installed. I received the new room fan 4 days after contacting the company. It appears the new room fan blower assembly has been re-engineered. The new blower works very good, but running noise is still noticeable. The stove is fully functional and heats well. We have been running the stove on heat range setting 1 and our basement temperature has been staying in the range of 69-70.5 degrees F. On heat range setting 2 the basement temperature is between 71-73 degrees F. Average outside temperatures have been about 28-34 degrees F at night. The stove has been trouble free since I installed the new room fan. The feature I like the most is the large 120 lb hopper capacity. The stove will operate nearly three days before requiring pellet refill. The glass window interior in the door quickly covers with fine ash when the stove is operating but is easily vacuumed & wiped off while cleaning the stove.

Where do I start with this stove? We bought two, US Stove models 5500 and the 5500XL from Northern Tool Co.

1. Both units are not flush across the front, when placing a straight edge across the front leaves a gap in the middle in the middle of the unit up to a 1/16 of an inch. The cast door is straight, but when closed across the front of the stove unit produces a gap in the middle of the unit that allows a clear view into the firebox onmodel 5500. I called Customer Service at US Stoves they wanted pictures of the installation and a narrative which I provided before they would do anything. I then called Northern Tool and they notified US Stoves who then sent me a new rope gasket. The 5500XL is missing 3 inces of rope gasket along the bottom of the firebox door.

2. Each stove burns a bag a day, but produces little heat no matter what the setting is at. I have experienced other pellet type stoves owned by friends and have noted that they burn at a rate that warms the room to excess. I feel much of the heat is disappearing up the stove pipe. My son placed a wet towel on a chair in front of the stove blower to dry and it eventually did after an extended period. The towel was not hot to the touch. The stove pipe is a double wall vent kit by Simpson Dura-Vent installed in accordance to NFPA 211 and inspected by the County Building and Codes Department.

3. Igniting both stoves are a continual problem. Stove pellets do not ignite readily, causing the operator to empty the pellet tray, and start the ignition process over and over. This can take 10 to 20 minutes, often times we give up in exasperation. Pellets spill over the pellet tray and fall into the combustion chamber. The pellets can only be retrieved by vacuuming them out which results in wasted pellets. A customer service rep at US Stoves, named Christy, says this is nromal!

4. Ash build up is expected and is vacuumed as needed at least several times per week. The area under the pellet box builds up with ash and is inaccessible to routine cleaning.

5. Stove is warranted and an extended warranty was purchased in addition to the factory warranty. But Northern Tools and US Stoves will not back their product without the customer going to great lengths to prove their case. We just want a stove that works and now that winter is here, we are stuck with a stove that DOES NOT!

Best Deals on King Pellet 48,000 BTU Stove with Igniter and Exhaust Blower #5500

I bought a US Stove 5500M Ashley to save money with heating. It burns one bag a day ($7.00) but it is not even close as potent as advertised. It is advertised to heat up from 1,200/1,500 sq ft, but it heats up to 500 sq ft, if that much.

It is very noise, too. One can't watch TV or talk on the phone, or even have a conversation in the room where the stove is.

Worst of all the warranty for electrical parts is for one year only, and those parts seem to be produced to last just a little longer than the warranty. I bought this stove last fall, one month after the warranty expired the igniter has melted. I have to spend U$50,00 to buy a new one. Luckily, I am skillful enough to fix the stove myself. Otherwise, I would have to pay U$200,00 plus parts for a technician to fix it.

If you are still thinking about buying it. Buy it in a place that allow returns (in case you can put up with the noise), and buy extended warranty (because, most likely, it is going to break right after one year).

I purchased this unit about 3 years ago to help take the chill off in my big old house. I did not buy a stove to use as my soul source of heat, which is probably why I like mine. I use a forced air oil furnace as my primary heat set at 65ish and use this stove to supplement. It is very loud, I do have to say that. The blower is loud and the auger feed is noisy. Im sure that those noises are not any worse than average for a pellet stove. What is very noisy and annoying is the thing vibrates now and then. It seems to come and go and correlates with blower fan speed. If it did not have that vibration noise, I would like my stove much better. The other complaint I have is the igniters go up like candy. I have replaced 1 a year so far. This year I replaced it and about 3 months later it was burnt up again. My wife called the company and they said they had a bad batch of igniters and sent us a free one. I have to give them props for that, but that does nothing as far as all the other ones I have had to buy. The flame quality that this thing puts out seems much better than a couple of other pellet stoves I have seen in use. I would say the stove puts out the heat I was expecting and maintenance seems pretty easy for me. My next purchase will be a furnace style pellet stove to replace my oil one and it will be through US Stove Company. If this stove didnt vibrate and eat igniters I would give it a 5 star.

I bought this motor as a replacement for my old one that had started whining whenever it ran. After some internet research I found that this is due to some interior ball bearings going bad (unfortunately you can't repair these). The new one came in just three days and I got it installed in less than 10 minutes. Connect the two wires, a vacuum tube, attach the provided washer, and then just use the four screws that come with it and you are all set.

I actually bought this replacement in the spring but didn't get it installed until a couple of days ago. Old induction motor was squealing and wouldn't make it much longer. I ordered this one considerably cheaper than anywhere else I looked. The squealer managed to make it until it was warm enough that I didn't need the furnace. I installed the new one the other day, less than an hour. I figure if I would have had to call someone to do it, it would have been around a $400.00 to $500.00 dollar bill. If you can use a screwdriver, you can change this yourself fairly easily and save big money. Sounds like new again.

This was a great price and easy to order exactly what I needed without knowing exactly what I was doing. Arrived very well packaged and on time. Would definitely order again if ever needed. Has been on for over a year and no problems. Hardly even notice it's running because it barely makes a sound.

It realy didn't solve my problem.

But I put it in anyway.

It works good.

Just as good as the original one.

just like other reviews said, this was easy to install. The guy who installed my furnace said that he couldn't sell me one as cheap as this. Just be careful not to let the screws get away from you. One did on me, luckily I had a magnet on an articulating handle so I could fish around under the burner and retrieve it. Nice to not have that nigh pitched whine anymore, it was a form of torture!

I don't normally write reviews, but I just had to! This fire looks and acts just like a real fire I saw the video on you tube and couldn't really believe that an electric fire could look like that well, it does. I am truly amazed at it. I do not know how they do it! I was originally looking at the gel fires, but saw the cost of the cans and I knew we would rarely put it on. This fire comes with a remote and after filling the small water tank, you even get a smoke effect!
