We ordered two of these heaters from Amazon 30 Jul and received them in early Aug. Both heaters had rub marks as they were poorly packed with only paper to protect them allowing them to rock in the box. We installed them in late Aug and tested them when it was hot (when hot they worked OK). Sep 14th was our first cool day so we lit them and both heaters lit in the orifice area burning flames behind and several inches overtop the bricks which is potentially dangerous. There was a sound like a jet engine at a distance so we immediately turned off the heaters and turned off the propane as a safety measure. We doubled checked to insure the heaters were set for propane and they were. Today Sept 16th we has a specialist, with 25 years experience fixing gas heaters, come out and he said the heaters have a bad design with the propane pilot light on the wrong side permitting gas to build-up before it lights (the gas enters from the other side) causing it to burn in the orifices (there are 5-1 for each brick) and that we should return the heaters. We tried to return them but we are past the return period. Therefore, he said the bricks or thermostat must be preheated so they will light to solve the problem as the problem is because the bricks and thermostat were 69 degrees the day the problem occurred ( that is why the heaters worked OK on a hot August day as the bricks and thermostat were warm then). We wish we had never seen these heaters as we cannot trust them unless we are with them to fix the reoccurrence of this issue. To be fair the heaters do provide heat although 1 brick in each heater does not glow as red as the others.

Replaced a older heater. This one seems to be doing a god job.

The price was very good and shipment was very fast.

Delivery was quick, installation easy and the price was right for a thermostat controlled plaque heater with blower BUT after only 2 days of use, the pilot refused to stay lit for natural gas, and it had a roaring noise when the pilot would ignite... not something I was thrilled with at all, could have just been a defect in the one I purchased and returned which is why I gave it 4 stars, I did like it...I only wish that the one I received had worked out.

Was a little larger than I expected, but OK. Had a few dents in it, but again OK. Will find out this winter how well it works.

I started out with a little Holmes heater that was $5 cheaper that i got from wal-mart, but the thing was horrible, took forever to heat up a little room even.

I was skeptical of something that looked decent, and assumed it wouldn't perform all that great... but boy was i surprised.

Heats up real quick, nice auto temp set of 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, and 'Max'.. along with manual settings, and oscillating that creates no more noise than the heater does, which is minimal for a space heater. Also has 4, 2, and 1 hr timers on it.

Only downsides, it beeps loud like a microwave with every button you touch, which gets annoying, and it would be nice if they made space heaters with 24 hour timers on them, to plan heating for when i wake up, but none of the kind exist.

Great buy, i think it was 40ish from wal-mart, very happy with it.

Very happy with this purchase. I previously owned the Lasko 755320 Tower Heater with Remote. That one lasted about 5 years and when it was time to replace it, I purchased this one, Lakso 6410.

The reasons I got this one instead is that for me personally, I found the remote unnecessary and never used it.

This one heats just as well as the Lasko Tower with Remote, takes up less space, more attractive design and cost less.

Many people have ask questions regarding increase in electric bill. I have found that if you do not use the oscillating function you will not see much of an increase in your electric bill.

But with using the oscillating function you will see a bigger increase in electric bill. Not sure why it cost so much more to oscillate but that has been my experience.

Basically when running this heater my gas bill has decreased by 70.00 and electric has increased 20.00.

So overall it saves me about 50.00/month. But it not only saves me money every month it also increases the temperature in my home to a nice, toasty, comfortable level without the fear of a HUGE gas bill.

Just remember, nothing can replace a little weather stripping around your doors/windows and sealing off drafty spots to keep the warm in and cold out.

But Lasko heaters are a great and dependable product that will help increase the temperature inside your home at a minimal cost. Ceramic heaters cost less to run that regular electric heaters, always get ceramic.

UPDATE: 12/26/2010 Since the cold weather is kicking in and people will be looking for new space heaters I wanted to update this review.

This product is still working great but the one problem I have found with it compared to the Lasko Tower I did own is this.......Being in the south, we have no basements, therefore from the floor up to about your knees, the temperature is always colder. Because this heater is smaller in height than the Lasko Tower even if the temperature in the house is at 70, if I set the heater at 70, it wont shut off because it doesnt realize the temp above it is warmer. The Lasko tower heater due to it being taller would adjust better to the rest of the temperature in the house and shut off. So I have to set this one at 65 and when the house reaches 70 it will then shut off.

So if you live in a home with no basement, this is something to keep in mind.

My next heater will be the Lasko Tower with Digital display.

I like this one, it looks good but I liked the Lasko Tower more because it worked better for my personal situation.

If you have a basement this is not a problem you will probably experience. But for those of you who live in the South, you know what I mean and its something you may want to consider when purchasing.

Also DO NOT use this with an extension cord. It will heat up the extension cord to potentially unsafe levels.

After receiving a gas bills of around $250 for two months in a row (and I live in Houston, TX, not in some ultra-cold climate), I decided I needed to do something about the drafts in my house besides just turning up the heat. I researched a number of small electric heaters and finally decided on this one. I have now been using it for about 3 weeks, and even though I haven't received my new gas bill, I am quite sure it will be substantially lower because I've been able to keep the house thermostat low while just using this heater to warm the room I'm in.

Here is what I LOVE about this heater:

* Design it is nice to have something that it attractive sitting in your living room, rather than a plain white or silver tower. Plus, it's fairly small and lightweight, and so it's easy to take from room to room.

* Thermostat this is my absolute favorite part of it. I just set it to the temp I want my room kept, and it will turn itself on and off as needed. I use this in my bedroom at night...it's wonderful!

* Low/high sometimes I just want a little heat near my feet while I'm working at my desk, and I don't want to run it at full 1,500 watts, so it's nice that it has a lower-energy 900 watt setting.

* Quiet, oscillating fan this heater is less noisy than most fans or air purifiers...it's a very quiet hum...and the oscillation is nice because it helps heat a wider area more quickly.

* Price you have to love something that keeps you warm wherever you are, for just $40, compared to gigantic winter heating bills!

I am absolutely THRILLED with my purchase of this heater and highly recommend it!

PROS

This heater looks great and heats up a room quickly(25' X 15' < 1 hour) its big and tall

great for large rooms

CONS

not so great for small bedrooms (hard to regulate temperature)

when u first plug it in you need to press like 5 different buttons to get the settings u want... annoying loud BEEP every time you press a button

only oscillates 90 degrees.

not a true thermostat... more like a glorified timer

To start, I must say that my TRUE rating is for 3.5 stars...the heater is just not good enough for me to round up to 4.

This heater performs as expected. We have the item in our master bedroom due to a redesign of the space, in which the heating vent was moved near the door which allows the heat to escape to the return vents in the hall before it circulates the room. We're in Atlanta, and the nights get pretty cold during the winter months.

The room is 12 x 16, and with the doors (to the hallway and master bath) closed, the room gets plenty cozy with the space heater on high. On low (which is just a lower heat setting with the same fan speed), it gets there, but just not as quickly. However, with the doors open, the area immediately in front of the heater gets warm, but the rest of the room barely feels like its even on. In short, if you're using this to keep a medium sized, closed area warm (just about any bedroom) then this space heater will definitely get the job done and is worth every penny. But if your 'space' is a small part of a large space, don't expect it to even keep the 'area' warm. We need a space heater for a finished basement sitting area, and don't plan on purchasing this one again.

Here are my pros, cons, and comments on items other people have mentioned:

PROS

Design does fit into typical room decor. Doesn't stand out like typical space heaters do.

Oscillation is a nice feature. Its true that it doesn't turn much, but it turns enough to cover a good area.

Timer is a great feature. All space heaters should be equipped with this.

The unit itself does not get warm, which is a plus. Makes for easy handling, even immediately after use.

Radiates good amount of heat for such a small unit.

CONS

Thermostat doesn't seem to be sensitive or accurate. Setting it to 65 degrees (with a digital thermometer in the room), the unit didn't shut off until ambient temp was 73 degrees, and turned back on at 68 degrees.

Again, gets a medium-size, closed space warm, but anything more than that is asking too much of the unit.

Unit needs to be on to maintain warmth for longer periods.

Even though I don't expect it to keep a large area warm, I would expect it to keep a small portion of a large area warm based on its location. However, it doesn't stand up to that test (Why? I am not sure). If the area is not closed off, you might as well try to keep warm by burning a candle next to you instead.

COMMENTS

Some reviews complain about the power cord getting warm, and even hot to the touch. We have run the unit for about 3 continuous hours, and after that, the cord is relatively warm, but not alarmingly warm. I can't attest to how warm it would be after 5+ hours of continuous use, but I don't consider that to be 'normal' use either. If its a major concern, shut the unit off and unplug it for a few minutes here and there, or set the thermostat lower so it shuts off more frequently during extended use.

The fan noise generated is really white background noise. My fiance is a light sleeper, and it doesn't seem to bother her at all. Its no noisier than the heat coming from our vents. Not sure why some reviewers have an issue with this.

Purchased several months ago, plastic smell as described, didn't last long.

Has been great so far. I would purchase again if needed.

Update... the smell did not last long.. is meant for the mattress I purchased, not this item. My apologies! This liner is a quality liner! When I need another I WILL purchase the same brand. :-)

This was a good liner, however it was not as thick as I thought it weould be. I had ordered the King Size and it seemed to be a Higher Quality. However this liner was 8" tall and good I was satisifed with it.

I bought this heater because I wanted three selectable heat settings so I could adjust the temperature of the air coming from the unit. Most heaters tend to produce a small amount of very hot air (especially ceramic heaters). The problem with this is that contributes to air stratification--the heat rises quickly to the top of the room and the floor remains cool. This unit has three heat settings from which to choose, and since it is a standard resistance heater and fan, it produces a (comparatively) large amount of warm air (as compared to a small amount of very hot air).

The package claims that the heat settings are 600, 900, and 1500 watts. (Most heaters are 1500 watts on their highest setting). However, I used a Kill A Watt meter, which registers the exact wattage, and recorded the results.

On fan-only: 10 watts

Low heat: 530 watts

Medium heat: 770 watts

High heat: 1270 watts

As you can tell, it is not quite 1500 watts, but this is totally fine with me--I just want it to gently warm the area around my desk at work, not bake a turkey. Also, an added advantage is that a standard 15 amp electrical outlet can carry a maximum wattage of 1875 watts. Since my computer and monitor must also be plugged into this outlet, and an average computer and monitor are 400 watts together, this will bring me to a total of 1670 watts--enough that I do not have to worry about tripping a circuit breaker.

The unit quiet and is thermostatically controlled; it turns on and off as it reaches the desired temperature. With that said, it does not have a digital thermostat that some of the nicer models have. You will need to guess and test to see if you prefer it set to "warmer" or "cooler" or somewhere in between. For the record, the coolest temperature mine will allow is 65ºF.

This reasonablypriced heater effectively, quickly, warmed up a cold, medium-sized bathroom . While it does not have a swivel feature, it operates at low noise level and has a good air output. We are quite satisfied with it.

When I first opened the package I wondered how such a small heater could do very much to warm up my bedroom which is about 11x12 and on a northwest corner. It can become quite chilly in the winter months. I place the heater on the floor and set it on medium heat with the fan on high. Within about 30 minutes the chill is gone and the room is comfortable at which time I turn it off before getting under the covers. My cat plops himself down 1 to 2 feet from it and peacefully sleeps until I turn it off at which time he joins me on my bed. As I live in SoCal it rarely gets below 34 degrees at night so I can't say how good it would be for colder climes.

This is a very basic double pole line voltage thermostat. I rated it 4 stars because it lacks a thermometer or a temperature adjustment. Also, you have to follow the installation instructions carefully because both red wires go to line and the black to load rather than matching the wire colors in the box. I bought this to replace a top-of-the-line Honeywell which burned out in two years. Line voltage thermostats are becoming harder to find so I felt fortunate to find this one at a reasonable price. Time will tell how well it holds up.

I have been using this product for a couple months now. It's a simple fireplace grate, so lets not get ahead of ourselves on reviews. It's steel, with a durable painted on coating. It fits my fireplace well, and the grooved cross-members seem to do a good job of making as much of the wood surface available for combustion as possible. It provides a good grip on the logs too. Seems to be extremely well made so I do not expect to have any problems with it at all.

I take full responsibility for not reading the FULL description. Although the specifications listed are exact to all outside dimensions, this grate is very lightweight and may not hold up to frequent fire usage. it is much smaller, flimsy and less useful than the 27" grate I bought a couple of years ago. I would not buy this again. Not the quality expected.

I heat my woodshop with a 55,000 BTU kerosene heater. The heater I have has a built-in thermostat, but it's junk. I had taken to turning the heater on high until the shop was warm, then turning it off until I noticed it was getting cold. Not good! Since Dad's got this thermostat on his kerosene heater, I knew it would be a good choice.

What I didn't realize until after I bought this thermostat is how good of an idea it is. Now the shop is a much more constant temperature, and it is much more pleasant to be out there.

The only downside to this thermostat is that it would be nice if it had a dedicated power switch, and perhaps a power light so you know when it's plugged in and turned on.

The only problem i have is i passed on some cheaper deals to order a "Reddy Heater" brand thermostat and that is not what i recieved. I recieved an "off" brand, not what was described when i ordered. On the other hand , so far it seems to work ok, i just wish i would have recieved what i ordered.

Best Deals on Reddy Heater Thermostat for Kerosene Heaters #HA1210

This works fine, but the rotary temperature selector should be bigger. No way to select it to a precise degree. For example, 70 and 75 are so close together that you can select somewhere between them and it will keep somewhere between them. Fine for a workshop or something, but I wanted to use it for a different (non-kerosene) heater in the house and it is hard to get just right for using in the house.
