I bought two of these (although not from this seller) and while they work great for heat, after using them for a few days, 1 showed signs of heat in the 12v plug and was replaced with another. The second one was used rather sparingly knowing the first one showed signs of too much resistance (heat) and unfortunately it started to melt in the socket. While I was able to pull out the plastic plug and assorted melted strands, the heat affected the socket, and now it works rather poorly and will only support low current draw devices. Lucky that this plug is an aux plug, so we still have 1 that can support high amperage devices.

I invite the seller to plug one of these in their car... And report back!

My heater has a problem in my car that may end up being a $700 fix so my mechanic suggested a little heater to help a bit. I bought one of these heaters for $10 in October 2012 and, while it doesn't heat the whole car, it did help keep me warm driving around town. Turn plug it in, set it on the seat next to me, and turned it on. If it was an especially cold night I would place it under a blanket to contain the heat, making sure not to block the intake.

Unfortunately the wiring in the cord and the fuse on the line aren't that great. I think I get about 3 months of use (6-12 hours/week) before they burn themselves out. The first one short circuited and burned up/melted the on/off and fan mechanism. The second one simply will not take a charge any more, died only last night (1/6/2013). If you can get it for very cheap (like I did) then it isn't really too bad.

Not as powerful as I hoped, it takes about 20 minutes to start warming a larger car. The stand it comes with broke the first time I tried to move it. Would work better with a compact car probably.

This is suitable for heating your personal space when it isn't practical to heat a large area. I'm using it in my unheated garage to make myself comfortable enough to work. This heater is not for heating whole rooms.

The heater gets hot almost instantaneously and cools down quickly once shut off. You must keep combustibles away from it! For some peace of mind, it shuts off if tipped or even picked up. Still, you need to be careful.

Four stars instead of five because you cannot use this on your work surface and tilt down towards your hands. However, when placed on an object at your side at about hip height, the angle of the heater does perfectly warm your mid and upper body.

I spent hours searching for the right buffet server and the Oster did not disappoint! The much larger trays will fit all the food you need for entertaining, you won't be hurting for space with this model. I had food out for my son's birthday for over 5 hours and everything stayed warm. I used it a few days later for a build your own fajita party outside and no problems keeping food warm on a table outside. It's a large piece but with it's size you won't be hurting for room to serve all your food at once. I'm glad I bought this and plan to put it to good use over the holidays. No more lukewarm meals!

I wish I had this during Christmas time. You can take the containers off and use your own if you want.

Either way works great, keeps the food warm even if you have it set on low temp.

Honest reviews on Oster CKSTBSTW00 Buffet Server, Stainless Steel

No more juggling side dishes in and out of oven trying to make sure everything is warm. No runs to microwave to heat a plate.

I tried putting food in from fridge and after about 2 hours was luke warm so I put the sides in the oven to heat them up then transferred them into the buffet server and put on high.

Kept everything warm, burnt dressing a little on bottom so I would say leave on low if you have already heated your sides.

Did not give it 5 stars because there was no opening in the top for serving spoons.

Overall very pleased with purchase and price.

I have several Oster brand products and love each one. Since I cook in large quantities and entertain often it's SO helpful to have the 'right' products. The Oster stainless stell buffet server IS one of those 'right' products!

It is a piece of cake (no pun intended) to set up, fill up, use and clean up! One tip put food in warm / hot NOT cold. This buffet server will keep your food warm and at the perfect setting for hours but it will not heat it up / cook it / burn it like some others will. I love it and I have have used it several times already. I can see using it often for many years to come.

My only complaint is figuring out how much water to use to heat the bottle. The instructions indicate the water holder should be filled to the taller fill line to heat an 8 oz bottle and the shorter fill line to heat a 4 oz bottle. Well, my 4 oz bottles are sometimes too hot or cold and you have to wait 10 minutes before using the unit again. I have had to use the faucet to correct my over or under bottle heating. I still like this bottle warmer and with practice I will figure out the correct amount of water. The night light is great and the insulated cooler is another nice feature.

I am using the Avent bottles and this system will accomodate the 9 oz Avent bottles if you use the MINI-BASKET. The mini-basket will also hold baby food jars. The 4oz bottles fit in the warming chamber with the regurlar basket.

I can't speak highly enough about this chiller/warmer. Every night I know I will not have to go downstairs to get a bottle, warm it, and bring it back up while baby is crying.

Now, all I do is take the bottle from the chill compartment (complete with ice pack), and place it, with a capful of premeasured water, in the warming compartment and hit a button.

While I change baby's diaper, the bottle is warming, and I am ready to go. This equipment has been a godsend. Actually, I can't think of any equipment that I could live without less.

No complaints whatsoever about this great bottle warmer.

Best Deals on The First Years Night and Day Bottle Warmer System

Former reveiwers listed that the Night&Day does not fit the 9oz Avent bottles. It does. In fact if you read the instruction booklet, it clearly stated that you use the bottle/jar basket for larger wide-mouth bottles. This unit come with two baskets, one for standard and smaller wide-mouth bottles like Avent, and another to warm baby-food jars and to accomodate larger bottles like the 9oz Avent. So have no fear in purchasing this warmer, it clearly does the job!

Honest reviews on The First Years Night and Day Bottle Warmer System

I've heard some say this is the best warmer available. If so, parents are S.O.L. Heating is SO inconsistent. Same amount of water with the same amount of milk will produce a different temperature every single time. Sometimes way too cold and sometimes way too hot. When the heating indicator light turns off you must be right there to pull the bottle out or it will continue to significantly warm the bottle without any water medium. Be sure to loosen your bottles cap during heating and check to see that the travel disc is not in place. Otherwise, the bottles (esp. Brown's) will overflow. If that happens cleaning the inside of the warmer is a major hassle because the milk will have burned onto the heating plate. The carrier is too short for Mr. Brown 8oz. bottles or any other of similar height. The tubes provided to premeasure water are a joke. The caps are so hard to close and open you need two really strong hands and maybe multiple tools to shut or flip the tops open. Of course, you will likely be holding your crying and squirming baby in one arm while trying to do open the cap and not spill all the water. They tried to get fancy with the shape of the tubes and cap they forgot to make them easy to use.I just can't believe that someone can't design a better "mouse trap".

To add insult to injury, the taps on the handle that are supposed to hold the top of the bottle storage compartment just broke off...

Don't mistake this 5000BTU unit for those commercial heaters mounted waaay up high throwing heat like the sun.. 1500W is 1500W. But its safer than my propane radiant heater.

I hung this up over a work bench in my unheated garage. It was 40F and I was expecting a nice warm glow.. the glow was there but the heat was barely noticeable. Initially 7 feet from the floor and angled towards me, I wound up lowering it to 6 feet. My hands got cold so I held them inches away from the element to warm them up.. it took a few moments.

Also, this unit does not include any cord or plug as described. You'll have to mount a box on the side and provide your own wiring.. I used 12 gauge to be cautious but now I see 14 gauge would have been plenty.

EDIT: After having this for a few months I like it better.. but in colder weather use it along with my propane heater. for a freezing cold garage its not adequate even when standing right underneath. But in moderate temps (45F+) it takes the bite off the cold, at least on my head and shoulders.

This timer has a lot to be desired. First the timers I received would not twist to a lower time if it had been set to for too long of time than first intended. This caused me to have to wire a defeat switch in the wall to turn the timer off early. Big time pain. I have several of this type of timer from Intematic. It would be nice to have a clutch on the time setting shaft so the time could be altered after the timer had first been set.

I purchased this heater because I had good experiences with a Marvin infrared heater of similar design and capacity. The Marvin failed after many years of dependable service, and since they are no longer in business I choose this Optimus brand.

I purchased my first Optimus H-9010 about a month ago, and have been so pleased with it that I purchased a second one which I installed yesterday. Here are my impressions:

o The stated specification of 600/1200 Watts is incorrect or has been changed. My heaters are clearly labeled as being 750 / 1500 watts, and testing with an amp meter confirms this is about right as it draws 6.3 / 12.3 amps.

o The installation is easy and convenient, the mounting bracket is long enough to straddle two studs spaced 24 on center. Mounting bolts are included.

o Once mounted, the heater can be rotated through 90 degrees that is tilted 45 degrees off vertical each way.

o Build quality seems good, about the same as my original Marvin heater. Indeed, aside from the addition of the light, this Optimus seems to be the same design as the Marvin.

o The unit needs to burn off a bit of factory residue, and it will stink a bit for the first 30 minutes of run time. After this period it runs clean with no smells or odors whatsoever.

o The cord is a generous 82 inches. If you must use an extension cord, make sure it is at least 14 gauge and as short as possible.

o The switch, activated by tugging on the convenient cord, has the following modes:

(0)-Off

(I)-Lamp On

(II)-one quartz element glows (750 Watts) & Lamp On

(III)-both quartz elements glow (1500 Watts) & Lamp On

o The light is a 25 Watt Halogen bulb with a G9 base. It swivels in up-down and left-right so it can be aimed where you want it. Of course this is too tiny a lamp to be used by itself for any serious work, but it never hurts to have extra light in ones shop. I like it, and I don't mind that it is always on while the heat is on, but if it's a problem I guess one could just remove the bulb.

o Operation of the unit is completely silent, with the exception that there are some slight noises as it begins to warm up (due to metal expanding, I presume).

o There is no built in thermostat, the unit is either on or off which is probably adequate for most folks. I rigged up a wall mounted thermostat that powers a ceiling socket, so I can set the heat to any desired temperature (typically about 55-60 degrees), and have found this quite convenient as I can turn down the heat when I'm not in the shop (to about 40) but still ensure that it will not freeze.

o This ceiling mounted heater seems very safe in a dusty environment such as a woodworking shop, because it points down, keeping the red hot rods clean and dust free. In about 5 years of use (with my original Marvin heater) I never had any safety issues, even though I occasionally allow some heavy dust to accumulate on the top of the unit.

o Another nice effect of these ceiling heaters is that when I have glue-ups or finishing jobs I can place them on the bench directly under the heater and they will cure faster than if place off in a colder corner.

As stated in the title, I use this heater in my woodworking shop, which is actually a converted double garage, about 680 square feet in size, located in the Southern Interior of BC Canada. It is insulated, with a wood floor over the concrete slab. The automatic garage doors, which leaked a lot of air and heat, have been removed and walled in. Before I removed the automatic garage doors and covered the cement floor with wood, I was able to keep things from freezing with just a single 1500 Watt infrared heater in fact I was usually able to keep the shop at 50 degrees or better if I allowed the heater to run long enough.

If a single heater was sufficient for my original cement floored shop, you may be wondering why I need two heaters after I've added a cozy wood floor and improved the insulation. It is so that I can better spread the heat around (by running each on half power 750 watts), and also because I can run them both full blast for the first half hour or so to bring the shop up to a comfortable temperature faster (about twice as fast, in fact).

A quick word about comparing heaters to each other. Virtually all electric heaters produce an identical amount of heat per watt. So, in the long run, any 1500 Watt heater, say a fan based unit, will make a room as warm as any infrared heater that is also 1500 watts. The difference lies in what gets warmed up first. A fan based heater first heats the air, and the air then heats the stuff in your shop, including you. The infrared first heats the stuff it's pointing at, which then eventually heats the air. If it's pointing at you, well you feel warm right away, but if it's not, then you don't feel much warmth until the whole room is warm.

If you are comparing this heater to non-electric units, it's best to compare BTUs. This one puts out about 5,000 BTUs.

Hope this was useful.

THIS THING ROCKS!

I absolutely love this heater. I've had it for quite some time now and it puts out a good amount of warmth in my garage.

No, it doesn't make the entire garage an 80º paradise on freezing winter nights, but it does help, and quite a bit. I installed it just above and behind my work bench area and in just a few minutes I can feel the air get noticeably warmer.

WELL worth the money. Would recommend to anyone who works in the garage on cold days/nights.

It installs easily, too.

Best Deals on Optimus H-9010 Garage/Shop Ceiling or Wall Mount Utility Heater

It took over 2 weeks for my order to ship so be warned that if you order this item it won't be received for around 3 weeks. It's identical to other heaters which have a different brand name, and it's cheaper but you have to hunt for it by looking for the Optimus heater and then click on the cheaper price which comes up unless you want to pay around $70. I got mine for $46.

The mounting bracket is pure crap; a soup can is made of stouter steel. Thankfully the heater unit is very light and long, sturdy screws are included for screwing into wall or ceiling studs. There's a fair bit of heat which escapes from the slits in the housing on the top of the unit which ends up hitting the ceiling. Your ceiling will get warm but not HOT.

Like others have done, I didn't really need the halogen light in the unit so I removed the bulbs. I wonder how much cheaper the heater would be without including the light.

Had shopped on line in every possible place and this fireplace is definitely the best.

It is very good looking and fits in well with my modern furniture even though it has very classical lines.

The remote and the three different lighting modes are wonderful.

The flames are adjustable, plus you can add the embers and/or overhead lighting.

All this from the remote.

And, the heat can also be controlled from the remote.

All in all, exactly what I wanted and more.

This fireplace is very nice looking and provides extra heat in our living room. It was relatively easy to assemble, and took about half hour. The "blackwash" is not very noticeable, and it looks just flat black. I wish the fireplace had a compartment for the satellite and DVD player, as there would be plenty of room for it above the heater.

I ordered this in hopes of upgrading from my ancient DeLonghi oil-filled radiator, but the Bionaire is not up to the job. It puts out much less heat than any of my other four whole room space heaters (two DeLonghi oil-filled radiators, one Lakewood oil-filled baseboard heater, and one Honeywell oscillating ceramic heater). I'm returning the Bionaire tomorrow after a week of ownership.

There is one thing I like about this heater: it has two lights, one to indicate that it's plugged in and the other to indicate that it's turned on. I wish more heaters had both lights.

However I have far more gripes than praise for this heater. For one thing, as of this writing, Bionaire fails to mention two very important facts on its website and in its description: unlike some other Bionaire heaters with five year warranties, this one only has a one year warranty and it's only a 1000 watt heater. I confirmed with my Kill-A-Watt meter that the low setting is 900 watts and the high setting is 1000 watts. The main difference between the high and low settings is a weak but very noisy fan that comes on automatically on high.

Another complaint: extremely flimsy construction. This is the only heater I've owned including my tiny 200 watt Lasko that feels tinny and like it could fall apart if I wasn't careful in handling it. Adding to the sensation of shoddiness in mine was a loose interior part that banged around whenever I moved the heater.

One more complaint is the thermostat knob. There are no numbers. I'm not one of those who expects room temperature readings on a space heater, but it is helpful as a reference to have numbers to make it easier to remember what setting you want to use.

All in all this was a disappointment. I hoped I'd be moving into the next generation of heaters beyond oil-filled radiators, but instead I'm returning the Bionaire and returning to the old oil-filled radiators with a new appreciation for their sturdy reliability. I've owned one of my DeLonghi's for 23 years.

I like the idea of this heater's design. If it were a 1500 watt heater with a five year warranty, I'd be much more enthusiastic about it. But considering how flimsy it feels and the loose part inside it, one has to wonder why Bionaire warranties some other micathermic heaters for five years but this one for only one year.

Some reviewers complain about a smell, but this shouldn't be a problem if you let it burn off before you use it indoors. This is standard for any micathermic or oil-filled radiator heater. I left my Bionaire outside for about three hours on high, and even after bringing it indoors it took another hour or so for the smell to entirely go away, but after that there were no more odors at all, even operating it in a small 8'x9' room.

General information about buying electric space heaters:

=============================================

I've owned and used electric space heaters since 1988, mostly DeLonghi oil filled radiators. When I recently began looking for a heater that would warm up a room faster, I was frustrated at the lack of hard, objective, facts about electric space heaters. Even the manufacturer websites often fail to mention or makes it hard to learn the most basic information you need to know, such as wattage ratings and warranty lengths. Not even Consumer Reports has enough information to really inform a consumer. Therefore it's up to us as consumers to share what we know. The rest of this review shares some of what I've learned.

In case you're wondering what heater I decided on to replace my DeLonghi, I didn't, at least not yet. I tried a Vornado PVH and a Bionaire BH1331-U, but I ended up returning both heaters. I'm sticking with my oil-filled heaters for now.

Basic electric space heater facts:

1. All electric space heaters are equally efficient. All heaters rated at 1500 watts output the same amount of heat, but may do it very differently. You have to choose the one that heats the way you need it.

2. Power consumption is determined by two things: the power setting you're using and how long the heater is actually on. Turning up the thermostat setting doesn't increase the heat or power consumption; it just lengthens the time that your heater will be running.

3. To reduce power consumption, use the lowest power setting on your heater that produces the heat you need.

4. An electric space heater will save you money only if you turn your central heating down or off and use space heaters to heat only the rooms where you need heat.

5. The only kind of electric space heater that's likely to provide adequate heat in a large or draft space is a radiant heater (not to be confused with a radiator heater, which is very different), but radiant heaters pose a fire hazard.

Don't take manufacturer wattage claims too seriously. When I used my Kill-A-Watt meter on six space heaters, I found variations of up to 200 watts between the claimed and actual wattage for each space heater. In most cases the actual watts were less than the claimed watts, but one of my DeLonghi's 1500 watt heaters turned out actually to be a 1600 watt heater.

Two crucial steps in finding the electric space heater that's right for you:

============================================================

1. Learn which heater is right for your needs. A huge percentage of complaints by reviewers about space heaters are due to reviewers buying the wrong type of heater for their needs. Your first step should be to decide between the basic types: Ceramic heaters with a fan, oil-filled radiator, micathermic, and radiant. First learn the conditions in which each one works best and works best and then select the type that will work best for your needs. There is no one single "best" heater for all situations. Each one has conditions in which it works well and conditions in which it's terrible.

2. Look at the warranties. Warranties on space heaters range from one year to five years. Delonghi and Soleus heaters that I've checked have one year warranties. Other companies, such as Bionaire, Honeywell, Lasko, and Vornado offer three year and five year warranties on many but not all of their models. If a company offers only a one year warranty on some models but a five year warranty on others (such as Bionaire), it raises question about the durability of the heater with the shorter warranty. However a long warranty is only as good as the company offering it. Read reviews to learn what experiences people have when their heaters die while still under warranty.

In most cases, you'll have to download the manual from the manufacturer's website to get the length of the warranty. It's a nuisance, but it's worth taking the time to do.

Don't let anyone tell you that any particular type of heater is "the best". The best type is the one that best suits YOUR needs. The best heater for me might be the worst heater for you. Some heaters heat up a cold room faster, some keep a room at a steady temperature, and some will work better in a large space.

Some questions you need to ask yourself before deciding which type of heater to buyWill it be keeping a room at a steady temperature? (oil-filled radiator or micathermics heaters might be best)

Will it be heating up a cold room? (a heater with a fan or a radiant heater might be best)

Are there children or pets who might be injured by touching a hot surface? (oil-filled radiator and radiant heater might be a problem)

Do you want to heat just a particular spot rather than the whole room? (radiant heaters might be best

Are you concerned about fire risks? (oil-filled radiator or micathermic heaters might be best, though no space heater is completely safe)

Oil-filled radiators:

These are my favorite heaters. These are the heaters that look like old-fashioned steam radiators. The oil retains its warmth after the thermostat cycles off, which is important if you want to keep a room at a steady temperature. The downside is that the oil takes longer to heat initially, which is why these heaters take so long to warm up.

I have two DeLonghi oil-filled radiators; I've been using one of them for 23 years, and the other is about eight years old. I love the heat they provide. It's steady, warm, with no noise and no drying out of the air like with some other types of heaters. They are ideal for maintaining a steady temperature in an enclosed room.

Oil filled heaters have a huge drawback, however: they are terrible at heating up a cold room. It can take an oil-filled heater hours longer to heat up a cold room than other types of heaters.

The US Department of Energy recommends oil-filled heaters as the most efficient, because the fins generate warmth even when the heater's thermostat cycles off. However this efficiency is only when the heater is continually on, keeping a room at a constant temperature. If you turn the heater on and off frequently, you'll lose most of the efficiency that's inherent in these heaters.

If you have children or pets, look into one of the shielded radiator heaters. I prefer the unshielded ones because they radiate more heat laterally, but the surface can get very hot and be a hazard if touched. DeLonghi claims that their shielded radiator heaters circulate heated air more quickly. Both of mine are unshielded, so I have no way of confirming that. My concern about the shielded radiators is that they would direct more hot air up rather than to the side, where I need it.

If your electric rates are different for different times of the day, you can use this to your advantage in setting your radiator heater toswitch on and warm the room from cold when rates are low, then let it provide steady heat when rates are higher.

A word of warning about oil-filled radiators: if one is poorly made or damaged, it can leak oil and permanently damage rugs and floors or even start a fire. Only buy from a reputable manufacturer and don't accept one that has any visible damage.

Ceramic fan heaters:

These are great at heating a room quickly, however many people including myself don't like the heat they blow. I don't mind it in my Vornado Personal Heater (375/700watt), which is located under my desk, but I thoroughly dislike it in the old Honeywell ceramic oscillating heater that came with my house. I much prefer the warmth that comes from an oil-filled radiator. Ceramic heaters can be most effective at quickly warming up a cold room.

Radiant heaters

Radiant heaters (don't confuse them with radiator heaters!) work by heating whatever they are pointed at rather than heating the air in the room. If you have a large, drafty space, a radiant heater might be your best choice, because it doesn't heat the air, only the objects and people it's directed at.

Micathermic heaters

Micathermic heaters work similarly to oil-filled radiators, except that instead of heavy metal fins filled with hot oil, micathermic heaters have thin sheets of mica that heat up. I've only had experience with one micathermic, a Bionaire BH1331-U, and found that it's exterior surface remained very cool except for a few very warm spots on top. There would be less risk of young children being burned by touching a micathermic heater than an oil-filled radiator. Micathermic heaters are slower heating than ceramic fan heaters, but are faster then oil-filled radiators..

Baseboard heaters

I have a Lakewood oil-filled baseboard heater I bought five years ago that has many of the advantages of a micathermic heater. It heats faster than an oil-filled radiator but has no hot surfaces and low fire risk. My Lakewood does an excellent job of heating my 12x15 bedroom.

However I have not researched baseboard heaters and only have experience with this Lakewood, so I don't know whether others are as good as this one. I was impressed that when I measured the actual wattages of my various space heaters, the Lakewood's actual wattages came closest to its claimed wattages of all the other heaters I tested. Lakewood unfortunately went out of business in 2009 and had a major problem with oil leaking from its heaters a few years earlier. Despite this, it's in many ways my best heater and has the lowest cost of operation.

I recently bought this at a warehouse store and just love it. I've had at least 4 heater fans and for some reason, I usually get more fan than heater! I hate the cold air that blows around with most heater fans, giving me a sore throat in the morning. However, this Bionaire heater is so much better. On low, it give silent heat with no breeze. If you like the fan thing, you can turn it to high and it will blow the air around. I find high to be useful for getting the room warm, but once it is, I just turn it back to low. The only difference between high and low is the fan. The temp is adjustable with another dial.

The design is very nice-modern and compact. Lightweight. Much better than oil-filled heaters. Recently returned one of those last weekend.

My only complaint is that sometimes in the morning it doesn't heat as well as it did all night. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the thermostat, but that would probably make the most sense. Since the outside temperature is warmer, the heater doesn't have to be as hot.

I'm so glad to have this heater. No more sore throat, stuffy nose or headache.

Our son-in-law purchased one of these and we saw how well it worked in their home. It heats an area of about 10x12 and has some safety guards that we were looking for. The surface of the unit isn't hot when it is on, it automatically shuts off if it were to tip over and it automatically shuts off if it were to get too hot. Our home is heated with oil and we were looking for something that would take the place of heating a room as well as keep the oil heating system thermostat from turning the furnace on and using any more oil that is absolutely necessary. We have the unit in between our living room and dining room next to the heating thermostat for the house to take the chill off of that area of the house. We run the unit all the time and have been pleased with it's service. Our electricity bill has been about thirty to forty dollars more a month compared to hundreds of dollars a month for the use of oil. I will say, it draws a lot of electricity and has tripped our breakers many times. We have to be very careful what else were are running at the same time as the heating unit. We also have a rental apartment and we bought one to use in there as well. We have other individual electrical heating units we have for where ever we might be in our home at the time.

Honest reviews on Bionaire BH1519-UM Micathermic Flat Panel Heater

The Bionaire BH1551-U is a pretty good heater & I got pretty much what I expected out of it. I bought mine used from an Amazon seller and the first one I got didn't work. The seller immediately shipped me a replacement, which was good service, but it still makes me think that these probably aren't too reliable. I took a star off for that and for the fact that the fan is much louder than I expected it to be.

As far as doing what it says, it will certainly heat a closed, medium-sized room very well & the fan does a good job getting the heat going fairly quickly. It looks pretty good (much better than an oil-filled radiator) and it stays fairly cool to the touch, so it's good if you have little kids or pets that you would worry about. You aren't going to feel a lot of direct heat from it, but that's not what this kind of heater is for. Don't expect to use it in a large-open space. It's room heater and it provides slow, even heat and at that it does a good job.

If I had paid $100 for it, or even the $65 that it is listed as "New" I would have been a little disappointed, but for the $40 that I put into it, I'm pretty happy, even though it took 2 tries to get one that worked.

As I was just about to put the Bionaire BH1551 into my shopping cart, another local warehouse customer was putting one into their shopping cart. So when I asked why they were getting one, I found out that they were coming back to pick up their second unit.

The BH1551 is performing well and if there was a need for another unit I would buy this again.

This is one of the best small heaters you can buy IMO.. I have owned one of these myself for 2 years and bought this current one on amazon for my girl friend so she can bring her living room up to temp a little better then the regular house heat does. These heaters are easy to use, there pretty quiet and I have never had any over heating issues etc.. I live in an older house and since heating the house is expensive I tend to only run this in my room when I'm home or have the day off.. I can turn this heater on when the rooms 48-55 degrees on average and watch the temp climb to 70-75 degrees within 20min.. it has no problem fighting the cold and will even start to heat up the cold hallway if I leave the door open by accident it's a pretty powerhouse unit for it's size if you ask me. The digital thermostat on it is pretty damn accurate.. i have a digital thermometer clock thingy in my room that sits around 6 feet away from the heater and it is always within 1 degree of the heater's set temp. If you got a small room, a small living room, bathroom, buy one of these you won't be sorry.

I bought this to replace one I had for years. It seems to be the only heater with an accurate thermostat. -All1500 Watt heaters give out the exact same amount of heat, whether it is a $30 box with glowing ribbons inside or a big piece of wooden furniture with a fancy looking heater inside. An oil filled radiator gives off heat when you shut it off because of how long it took to get warm in the first place. How these thing react to changing conditions is the only difference. This heater has a circuit board for clock, timer and accurate thermostat.

I would have given this 5 stars, as I loved it while it worked. Nice thermostat control and warmed the room nicely with fan blowing heat. BUT it stopped heating after one month of use. I saw that Consumer Reports rated this second to a $400. heater and was hopeful it would last at least one winter. I know Holmes products are cheap and only last a year at best. It does come with a one year warranty, but if you live 50 miles from civilization like I do, that's a whole lot of hassle just to get the product you bought for this very moment freezing cold! I'll never buy Holmes again. And I wish these reviews wouldn't put words in my mouth for the one star rating I don't hate it. I'm frustrated and disappointed and cold and not looking forward to the time and hassle it will take to make it right! I totally loved it while it worked! And I won't buy again from any company that only gives a one month return/exchange policy. If they did a simple exchange, I could have a working heater within the week.

A REVIEW PS: I spoke to the manufacturer (Holmes), and they couldn't have been nicer! They're sending me a new heater this week, just as I had hoped the original seller would do. They make good on their warranties, and it was no hassle at all as I had anticipated. I will buy Holmes again! They said it was highly unusual for this heater to stop heating. So I'm back to giving it 5 stars... once it arrives and is working!

I was surprisingly pleased with the Eva Dry mini dehumidifier. I hang mine just out outside our guinea pig's cage and it absorbs excess moisture quite effectively, keeping their food and cage area from getting too humid. It takes several weeks to fully absorb moisture but the indicator will go from blue to bright pink, and the unit will be noticeably heavier. Just plug the unit into the socket overnight to refresh.

I have 5 of these Eva-Dry rechargable dessicating dehumidifiers. Here in humid NC, using the larger in 4x8 closet works well. Takes some time, but definite measurable difference of 10-15% or so on humidity gauge after a couple of days. Need to recharge once a week here where even with the air conditioning on, indoor rel humidity is over 50% most days.

The larger EDV-500 has a much better hook which fits through the holes in the Eva-Dry EDV-500 plug, a feature that is not very well documented!

Also, there are occasional specials: recently a 2 for 1 sale on the EDV-500 with free shipping.

Only reason for not giving this product a 5 star is that as stated in other posts, the recharge process gets the unit very hot and it doesn't always sit well in an outlet without support. I too had one unit fall, and was fortunate the case stayed intact but the little beads could make for a real mess if the unit broke open!

But the real mess this thing avoids is dealing with drying chemicals that collect water and the dissolved dessicant. When that tips over, it is a wet mess, so the EDV-500 and EDV-300 avoid that type of mess.

PS where in the world did someone get the idea to label this "wireless" in the Amazon description? Very misleading!

I prefer this product over refilling messy damp aid units anyday (yuck!).

It seems to keep the closet fairly dry. Two problems. Problem 1. When I renew one of the units, it falls out of the outlet unless I support it with something else. This could be dangerous since it heats up. I'm able to renew it on a counter outlet but could be a more problematic for a regular outlet that has more space between outlet and floor. Problem 2. My boyfriend who I forgot to tell about the unit, went into my closet like a bull in a china shop and it fell off its hook and broke (glass beads everywhere) I had to buy a new one after only a month. There should be a more secure way to affix the unit to hang in the closet or perhaps customer should opt to put it on the floor. The hook is fairly flimsy and if you have kids or clutzy significant others, hanging just isn't a good option for a closet that is full and tight.

Honest reviews on Eva-dry E-500 Renewable Wireless Mini Dehumidifer

I got the 500 for my 1.6 cubic ft. AMSEC safe for my handguns and important documents and use a wireless temperature/humidifier sensor to measure the moisture. It works well and keeps moisture at bay.

Con: After a month and 2 renews, the unit stopped renewing. The unit would not heat up to release the moisture from the unit. Did a little troubleshooting and found that the collapsible power plug wouldn't make contact when plugged into the wall. This is the contact between the plug and the unit itself and not the wall. The weight of the unit when plugged into the wall would tend to pull itself away and cause it not to make contact with the unit. I verified this with a Fluke multimeter while pulling on the plug it would lose connection. The only work around is to charge it upright on a power strip where the weight would help give it a better connect.

The unit gets very HOT! I assume this is normal considering it needs alot of heat to release the moisture from the unit. I'm just afraid it might catch on fire one day during a renew. To be on the safe side, I renew in the middle of my tile floor.

I purchased this about a month ago for a beer keg refrigerator that kept collecting standing water on the bottom. I would use towels to soak up the half inch of water from the bottom of the fridge, but when I would open the fridge to check it again a week later, the water would always be back. Since I put this de-humidifier into the fridge a month ago, the fridge is still completely dry, and the beads have yet to change color at all, so I haven't yet had to "recharge" the dehumidifier. It's done just what I needed it to do. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

---UPDATE---

To my surprise, it was over 7 months before any moisture appeared in the bottom of the fridge again. I plugged in the Eva-Dry for about a day and a half (until I could see pink beads again), and put it right back in the fridge, which has been dry ever since (1 month and counting).

The fireplace is almost everything I wanted. The only think missing is the real sound of a fireplace and I have added a Woodwick candle on the mantle to get the desired effect. Do ASK for the assembly instructions. II held me back a week for the enjoyment of my fireplace. My cats LOVE to cuddle in front of it just like the Night Before Christmas!. Once I got the instructions,, even me, a no DIY gal, was able to put it together and I enjoyed doing so I recommend this for its ambiance and for the opportunity to put your Xmas garland and lights on the mantle after it is assembled. Enjoy! Dr. Carole M. Rowland.
