Dimplex #DFI2309 Electric Fire Place Insert Review
I was pleased with the realism of the flame function, but somewhat disappointed with the amount of heat it generates. I have a Dimplex stove-type as well and it outperforms the insert. Someone wanting the ambiance of a fire in the hearth, might consider how the Dimplex Stove would look in the firebox instead of the insert if heat is a primary consideration.Almost false advertising, certainly a mistake by Amazon. This is a Dimplex DG12309. When the shipping is added in it just ends up costing more.

We use this device to control a furnace rated gas fireplace. It operates on battery as opposed to 110 volt wall current and that is a real plus when there is a power outage. Recently we purchased a second one of these devices based on two years of success with the first device. The second device operates a fireplace at a vacation home that is subject to power outages. Because it can be set to monitor the temperature and operate the fireplace without 110 volt current, it provides a backup heat source when the power is out and the temperatures are below freezing. This is important for a vacant home and it is helpful when the home is occupied. Be aware though that the fan on the fireplace will not run during a power outage so this device does not overcome that issue. FYI, batteries seem to last over a year so battery consumption is not an issue.
VERY EASY to set up and program...installation was a snap.
Excellent instructions...very much "plug-and-play".
Best of all...the wife is now toasty warm all the time, and
I'm not jumping up and down to turn the fireplace on and off.
Again...GREAT PRODUCT...HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
After I installed the Skytech 3301, no more trouble, works perfect everytime, and so handy, you don't have to get out of your chair to turn up the heat.
Pro's: Easy for the home handyman to install. Works great.

I bought the Skytech 3301 remote transmitter and receiver box to replace my Avanti (model AHP304R2T) which had stopped working. The Skytech has pretty much the same features, which I was happy about, but I've been disappointed in the transmitter. The transmitter works fine, but the batteries keep falling out. They are held in by a small plastic plate. The plate has two tabs at one end and another at the other end. The top tab just isn't strong enough to keep the plate in place. The other thing I don't like about the Skytech is the display. My Avanti was easy to read. It had bold block letters on an almost white screen. The Skytech letters are as big, but not as bold and they are displayed against a dark gray screen.Best Deals on Fireplace Thermostat/Remote

Honest reviews on Fireplace Thermostat/Remote
The Skytech line of products is high quality at a reasonable price. I purchased the Skytech 3301 to replace the manual Skytech Control I have used for about 7 years and is still working like new. I wanted a Thermostatic Control so we would not have to cycle the logs On/Off and adjust the flame manually each time the desired temperature was reached. I contacted my local dealer, from which the logs were purchased, to see what would would work with our logs and was given the product number. I wanted to price shop before buying, local price turned out to be much higher. I ordered and it was received in a couple of days, it was as advertised however, when I removed the old remote control I noticed the two contacts were different sizes, neither of which was the size of the new one. I called Skytech, after a little discussion I learned I have a "Servo Gas Valve", i.e. read "ADJUSTABLE FLAME" and not compatable with the Thermostatic Remote Control "Either On or Off"! Unfortunately I had to return the Skytech 3301, none of the Thermostatic controllers will work with a Servo Valve. Sometime later I was in my local store and asked about the Remote Thermostat this time he told me "it would not work with our logs"! Bottom line be sure you have all the right information and ask questions before buying. Save everyone some time and money!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Fireplace Thermostat/Remote
I have a gas fireplace that had a wall thermostat located more than 25 ft. from the fireplace. Problem was sometimes the thermostat would lite the fireplace sometimes it wouldn't, very hit or miss. After I installed the Skytech 3301, no more trouble, works perfect everytime, and so handy, you don't have to get out of your chair to turn up the heat.

Bon Home DDR100WH Heat & Dry Dish Rack Review
I love this Heat and Dish Dry Rack. I thought I would take it out and put it away but I leave it up all the time. I do not have a dishwasher or room for one so I thought I would try this. It's wonderful! I wash my dishes and put them into the rack and when it is full I push the button and keep on washing. In ten minutes the dishes are dry and I put them away. Then I load up the rest (if I have more). Or while I am waiting for the dishes to dry I have time to wash up the kitchen counters and put this and that away and then I turn around and put the dry dishes away. Done. All done. You do have to learn how to put the dishes in so they have access to the heated air coming up. But honestly that has not been a problem as I am motivated to make it work. All my plastic containers are dry in 10 minutes and I can just put them away. The lids may have a hidden drop of water on them here and there but that is no problem. There is a very small drip tray that slides under the rack and I slide it out when I remember and pour the excess water into the sink. But it is very small and only about a 1/2 inch tall. You can move around the metal racks that come with it. So if you don't need any of them you can just remove them and use them later when needed. My son said he hates drying the dishes they don't put into the dishwasher as he feels he never gets done with all of it. So I am getting one for him and my daughter in law. It is perfect for drying all the bottles and cups and plates she uses with the kids as well as her plastic containers.
Update June 4, 2011: Last week the light started to blink on and off and the motor would come on and then stop over and over. Last night it was doing that while we were not home. And today it won't work at all. It's dead.
I am so disappointed! This was my favorite thing in the kitchen. And we have only used it for the months of Feb, March, Apr, and May. I sent an email to the company and am waiting to see what the warranty is and if there is anything I can do about this. But $100 for 4 months is not very good. I will update if I hear back from the company.
Update June 9, 2011: They are great! I have a new one sitting in my living room right now. It was just delivered and I only sent the broken one back yesterday. They were so quick to reply to my emails and so helpful and honest. I got personal attention and a new dish rack!
Update December 4, 2011: THE SECOND ONE IS BROKEN. IT LASTED 6 MONTHS. We were not even using it. Same as before. We came home and the light was blinking on and off and I unplugged it and then plugged it in and now it is dead. I don't understand it. I make sure there is plenty of room around it for air flow. I use it about 5-6 times a week. I do not overload it. So I will send the company another email and see what they can do. I will update when I know more.
(1) Unplug the power cord. (2) Remove the top snap-in dish rack drain plate. (3) Remove the four small screws over the front switch compartment and take the cover off. (3) Pull the small switch printed circuit board up by removing the one clamp screw on the power wire going into this small compartment. (4) Push in and pull out the front plastic button that actuates the switch. (4) Put a small amount of grease or WD40 on the two small slides at the bottom of this actuator. (5) Reverse the process and reinstall everything. The whole job should take about 30 minutes.
Since I've replaced the switch instead of oiling the slides I don't have any idea how long this lubing "fix" will work, but if you do it once it won't take long to do again and again and keep on air drying for a long time. Good luck. Bon Home DDR100WH Heat & Dry Dish Rack
1. Blower failure after 2 1/2 to 3 weeks of use the blower would suddenly, on its own, start up and fail to stop. Or it wouldn't start when the button was pushed. Totally erratic. At times, completely unresponsive.
2. Blower failure aside, even if that worked perfectly, there are other issues with the design. Due to having to direct the air up through the dishes, the bottom area is a closed "box" with a small, shallow drawer that the water from the wet dishes drains into. The capacity of this drawer is about 2 teaspoons. When that is exceeded, you will have a drainer that "piddles" all over your counter top. Expect to empty this drawer numerous times throughout the course of a meal's worth of dishes. Apparently designing something that would actually DRAIN the water into the sink was too much of a challenge for Bon Home's design team.
3. The warm air works beautifully to dry the dishes when the blower is actually working; it also works beautifully to heat up the kitchen...which could be an advantage if it's in the single digits outside and supplements to heat are appreciated. Not so much in South Texas, where the more likely scenario is triple digits outside, and an air conditioner running darn near full time to combat the heat. This unit will be a major set-back to utility bills in warmer climes. If it had been designed with some sort of cover/closure method to contain both heat and dishes, it might be a viable design. One review mentioned both heated and non-heated air...there was no such control on my drainer, nor any mention of such in the owner's manual.
4. Customer service: this is the big question mark...I've called Bon Home and a young man took my name and number, telling me someone would get back to me. I've asked for the unit to be replaced and for them to send me a shipping label for the defective unit...I've yet to get a commitment for that from Bon Home.
So there you have it...too much money for a shoddy product. Buyer beware.
1-4-2012 update:
Bon Home customer service stinks. They finally got back to me, told me they have discontinued the item and turfed me back to woot.com since that was where I purchased the item. Told me I would have to get credit for THEIR defective product from woot. Great business model...make crappy products, then refuse to stand behind them when they fail. That attitude would make me wary of purchasing ANY product by Bon Home. Once again, let me say it: Buyer beware.
2-22-12 update:
Woot.com did replace the unit in January, 2012 without hassle. Kudos to woot's customer service. However, desperate for a drainer while all this went on, I broke down and ordered a Simple Human bamboo drainer (works very well, by the way), so when the replacement Bon Home arrived, it stayed in the box, as I scratched my head wondering whether I trusted a second unit enough to try it (having recently read a Consumer Reports article on fires started by malfunctioning household electrical appliances, I was understandably dubious about any appliance with a propensity to start up spontaneously). On 2/17/2012, Bon Home followed up on my original customer service contact (December, 2011); they are now offering to refund my money. I replied this morning and will take them up on their offer.
Additional comment 6-18-12:
In response to one of the comments, below, no, the refund was not in addition to receiving a replacement unit the unit that Woot sent was returned to Bon Home, after receipt of which, Bon Home mailed a refund.

After months of use my wife started telling me that this rack was not working correctly, exactly as described in other reviews submitted on Amazon. Then one day it would no longer start at all. What I found is that the small momentary switch that starts the drying cycle sticks in after a few months of usage. The design is so that the switch itself is used as the return spring of the plastic ON/OFF button in the front and after time has passed either the switch spring loses its spring tension or the sliding actuator gets material under it which hinders its ability to slide forward then back, therefore not allowing the switch to pop open again when pushed. (This is the reason for the delayed starting customers have been experiencing. That happens when the switch finally pops back out.) For ours I replaced the old switch with one I purchased, but if I had to do over again I'd simply do the following first and save myself the soldering hassle:(1) Unplug the power cord. (2) Remove the top snap-in dish rack drain plate. (3) Remove the four small screws over the front switch compartment and take the cover off. (3) Pull the small switch printed circuit board up by removing the one clamp screw on the power wire going into this small compartment. It was my husband's job to dry the dishes so he is extremely pleased with this great invention! I love it because our new high-efficiency dishwasher does not dry plastic. What's wrong with this dish drainer? Let me list the ways:1. Blower failure after 2 1/2 to 3 weeks of use the blower would suddenly, on its own, start up and fail to stop. Or it wouldn't start when the button was pushed. Totally erratic. At times, completely unresponsive.

I got this heat and dry dish rack and completely fell in love with it! It's very convenient and it dries the dishes that I can't put in the dishwasher very quickly. I also liked the fact that I didn't have to assemble it once I received it. The drier is quiet and overall very easy to use. I would definitely recommend this product to my friends and family!Tuesday, September 23, 2014

My friend almost fell over when I told her the price she had bought hers for about $25 many years ago!

Bought for seldom used bathroom because it was big enough to fill the hole left by the original fan. Wires in bulb connector started shorting near end of warranty. Replaced bulb thinking that was the likely trouble but wires pulled out of connector during bulb change. Solution offered by customer service was to buy a new unit and swap out the wiring. That is what I did, but not thrilled to buy two units in 13 months. I'm a lifelong contractor.

It gets cold in Minnesota! We have a large family room in our older house with a horribly cold floor (it's built over a crawl space). I wouldn't think of sitting in this room without wool socks and slippers. Not any more! The rug buddy as transformed the floor into a cozy oasis where you want to keep your feet. I also believe it has warmed the entire room.
The room has a hardwood floor and an area rug. We installed the Rug Buddy between the rug pad and the rug. The installation was easy and except for the cord you don't see it or feel it when you walk on the rug (you feel the warmth but not the thickness of the Rug Buddy). My only complaint is the cord which I felt was too short.

We bought this for our 10' x 12' sun room, where we spend most evenings no matter what season. As we live in Chicago, it can get quite cold in the winter. We put the Rugbuddy down, using the recommended pad they sell, put our rug over it, and now have perfectly warm feet, no matter how cold it is outside. We absolutely love it. I did much research before arriving at this purchase. I live in New England and have electric heat. My baseboard heaters run efficiently, but use between 750 and 1250 watts per heater. At 16.2 cents per kilowatt hour, the heating costs add up. I bought this and the 165 watt rugbuddy based on amazon reviews, and, after researching different types of electric space heaters, I thought the rugbuddy might heat my living space with lower watts. The rugbuddy works well in conjunction with other heaters running at lower temperatures, but is not so great as the sole heating source unless the weather is brisk outside. The 165 works great in conjunction with the smallest, 350/500 watt baseboard heater in the bedroom. when it is 17 to 20 degrees outside, the room is 64 degrees inside. Plastic window insulation, thermal curtains, weather stripping, and caulking all contribute to help raise the temperature while lowering power consumption. However, the 470, I feel should emit a little more heat. I have been contemplating testing out a piece of aluminum foil between the rugbuddy and the rug to increase the heat produced. But I'm not quite sure if that will lead down the path to Darwin award candidacy. I wish the manufacturer would supply a rug mat that might amplify the heat in such a manner with safety consciousness in mind.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for SpeedHeat Rugbuddy 470 Under Rug Space Heater, 5.5' X 8'
I bought this to warm the rug and surrounding area of the room. Well, the rug was warmed but I was expecting it to be warmer. Had no real effect on the overall comfort of the room IMO. Nice to lay on in front of tv or just stretch out.Friday, November 22, 2013

We had recently moved to Portland Oregon from Los Angeles and needed to have a bit more heat than we could get from our wood stove. I checked all online providers, checked local stores, and even looked in Craigslist. We did get an older model of Whitfield and spent $1000 getting it running and still had problems. I found this one on Amazon and took a chance. I liked that they had the owner's manual online and I could check it out before buying. I loved that it is MADE IN USA!
*Arrived on a mini pallet, shipper brought inside house :)
*Arrived on time
*Was fairly easy to unpack
*Took two men to set it up (we paid professional installers $250 plus piping $400)
*Works beautifully!
*Small footprint
*Heats house to 70 degrees from 55 in matter of 20 minutes when outside temp is low 40's
*Easy to control, set dial and leave it (I am disabled and can easily turn on or off as needed)
*Has easy instructions for cleaning and maintenance
*extra large hopper allows us to leave on for two days without adding more pellets
only thing I do not like is that it has a vibration when fan is kicking off, could be the pad we have, had same problem with last pellet stove too. Might need to place carpet under pad (we have laminate flooring)
We are thinking about getting another one to set up in our garage/office out building
The product shipped incredibly fast, the shipper "CEVA" was a professional and very helpful. The product was well packed, protected and secure.
The product came fully assembled with exception to a few minor items. I removed my wood stove and installed this new pellet stove in less than 1 hour!. After connecting the flue piping, I put a bag of pellets in the hopper, turned it on and I was amazed at how fast this device worked. Over the next week, this device impressed me more and more everyday. So much so that I am going to buy another one for my finished basement. I just can't say enough about the product or the vendor. This stove really works and does more than I ever expected. Having burned coal and wood for the last 15 years, I can tell you that this is the way to go, clean, simple and efficient. Congratulations on a fine product, great vendor and shipper. I highly recommend this product and vendor. Well done!

I am a retired Master and I am simply amazed at this product!
Well done!

Good value. It works well, it's light and compact. However it's a bit noisy. I wanted a discreet heater to use in my office, and it's not really quiet. One security feature includes a button under the heater which will turn off the heater if it rolls over. However, it will also turn off the heater if it stand on a soft surface (like carpet) which can be annoying.

I love my little heater. It keeps my feet toasty warm while I'm playing on my computer. I would highly recommend this to any one interested in purchasing a small room heater.Best Deals on Optimus H-7004 Portable Ceramic Heater with Thermostat
We bought this unit in January 2010 for use in our small RV. We used it on two trips. On the second one, the heater suddenly gave us a fireworks display of tiny sparks. It kept working, but we were uncomfortable using it without "supervision." Kind of like having a bad dog in the house. We couldn't use it overnight, for instance. Didn't think much about it over the summer, but we just plugged it back in to clean up the RV. It immediately sparked again. This time it smelled like an electrical fire and quit heating. It's in the dumpster.Honest reviews on Optimus H-7004 Portable Ceramic Heater with Thermostat
The heater worked okay for a couple days, had a slight odor and was slightly noisy but not too bad. However, then it seemed to burn out. The light would come on and the fan would spin, but no heat would come out.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Optimus H-7004 Portable Ceramic Heater with Thermostat
I am so bummed. I studied so many reviews before purchasing this space heater. This specific heater didn't have many reviews, but from what I read all over Amazon.com, Optimus is a great brand and this heater was very affordable. I only had it for 3 months and saw a little flame and heard a zap (that sounded like a bug zapper) and quickly turned it off. Of course it is past the Amazon return policy, so what a waste of money! I wish I knew how to contact the seller directly to get a replacement. I know that it is beyond the return policy, but they should make an exception for a fire hazard! Very scary. I'm glad I was in the room when it happened so I could turn it off as quickly as possible.
