I had received two of these a while back and decided to give one a try as we were having Homecoming at our church today and I thought it would be a nice idea to keep the pot warmer longer (we all agree the concept is a good one).

With that said, I removed the HOT ROCK from the never-before-opened packaging (identical to the one depicted here on Amazon) and commenced to microwave the HOT ROCK MICROWAVEABLE HOT PLATE -PER INSTRUCTIONS for 3 minutes.

3 minutes is exactly halfway between the recommended setting for my oven (three ranges depicted on the back of the HOT ROCK depending on the wattage of your oven).

Before it finished my oven began making a horrific noise.

The magnetron is blown! Oven is Kaput! And is a nice one that is probably two years old at best.

I certainly would never put one of these in any microwave that I wanted to use again. Mine is blown and does nothing but make noise and not heat. I have been through all of the troubleshooting available on a Sunday and it all points to big fix that I feel should be done by the folks at HOT ROCKS.

So, where are those guys.

Nothing is listed for address or phone number in the brochure or on the box (other than imported by Books are Fun, Fairfield, Iowa.

I am trying to locate someone for some relief, but this site was the only thing I saw and would warn everyone against putting one of these things in your microwave.

The idea is great, but execution ? Executed my microwave.

ZERO STARS would be the true rating, but one is minimal.

We bought a couple of these a bunch of years ago, and have used them a lot over the years. Nowadays, before I go to bring home a take-out dinner (sandwich, Chinese, pizza, etc), I throw this into the micro for 4 minutes and go out the door. When I come back 20 minutes later, it's still very hot, and I put the package on top of it while I change and get the dinnerware and drinks together, set up the TV/VCR/DVD to watch something while eating, etc. Sometimes it seems the food is hotter by the time I'm ready than when I walked in the door with it!

But I am appalled at the asking price here. The original one sold at Walgreens for $5. Even with inflation since then, and being happy with it, I'm not sure I'd pay more than $10. I see a number of them on ebay for around $15 that might be bordering on fair. I don't think you need to hesitate to buy a used one, as long as there is no obvious physical damage I don't see how it could wear out functionally.

I hesitated to use it at first because I was unsure how the granite could be hot without melting the plastic coating. This is not a problem. Once I tried it, I like it a lot. To love it I'd want a bigger plastic case surrounding the hot granite stone. Other than that, it's great. I've heard of people using it as a cooler too, but I have not tried that myself.

Overall, I recommend this.

I have one of these things (bought years ago) that I use to keep tortillas warm after cooking, or to warm a plate of pancakes, and it's perfect for that function. But do NOT pay $40 for it! It's worth $15-$20 at most. Check your local Target or buy one off Ebay. (That price has got to be a bot error.)

There is one place that I bring food for a large group of people. The place where we eat together, does not have electricity where we need it. I found one for a reduced price, and was so happy with this warming stone, that I bought a second one.

Of, course the heat slowly goes out of the stone, unlike an electrical product. But if you are going somewhere where there is no electricity, this is great.

I have put them in the microwave for 3 minutes, but never 30 minutes. Probably putting it in for 30 minutes will mess up your microwave.

Got this product really fast, and it was really easy to assemble, the only really downside where I had to downgrade this from a 5 star was because it was made in China, which I knew it had to be because it's impossible to find products made from a reputable country.

This little thing hold the temperature well. We are picky about the way we make our coffee and teas and temperature control on this baby is one thing we don't have to fuss over, especially early in the morning. In our opinion, this little gem has water ready to go at any moment whenever a caffeine fix is in order is priceless. We had larger models in the past and they all worked flawlessly. We like this smaller version so much we will get a second one for office.

Pair this up with a nice french/tea press and you are set!

*Took away one star for pricing, comparing it to larger siblings, this thing should be priced around $100 in our opinion.

For a long time I tried to find a way to get hot water without scum taste. I tried various kettles and water boiling devices all produced a water with bad scum taste aftera while. Zojirushi devices (I own two of them, different models, one is used at home, another at work) are excellent. Although there is an instruction of how to clean them using citric acid, there was no need to do it for last 6 months or so I use them every day. It also unbelievable convenient to have a hot water ready for tea at any moment. Or am I just getting lazy?

We have a forced air heating system which makes for a dusty home. I purchased these vent filters in hopes they would reduce the dust flying around and settling on furniture. We recently had a new baby so I wanted to find something that would filter any lingering dust in the vents in the house. My husband was really skeptical, but after a little persuasion (aka nagging) he put them in the registers. The first thing we noticed is that it decreases the amount of heat coming into the room so we had to adjust the thermostat to maintain the 72 degrees we're used to. After three months my husband went to change the filters as well as the furnace filter and was no longer a skeptic. It was amazing how much dust these filters had trapped. We now change these every three months and every one breathes a little better without the extra dust lingering in the air. I highly recommend this product especially to anyone who is waking up a little congested as it defintely helps!

Just another way to add protection. Also great for renters. Moving into a new place usually the maintenance crew doesnt care about the place since they dont own it. They let all sort of junk fall into the vents. Then you move in and the air is push up right through all the junk. I say a must have for clean living.

I have not obtained this item and this "review" is mostly addressed to Juan (inventor).

In reviewing the comments and descriptions about this mug, I am offering the suggestion that you have a separate mug/heat reservoir that allows the mug to be handled (and washed) independently of the heat reservoir and ideally where the base is designed to accommodate a variety of similar diameter mugs. This way those with a preference for larger mugs can use at least TALLER mugs vs having (as another option offered to consumers) different reservoir bases & diameters that one can order to best suit their own mugs/needs. This also provides a certain degree of product acceptance if one knows that if something happens to the mug (and people certainly can drop these things or otherwise cause damage to the mug) then all they have to do is replace the mug. In theory, the base and its performance should last indefinitely. In addition, this would take care of any concerns one might have regarding water damage to the base since the base is easily left out of the cleaning regimen when the mug is cleaned.

Again, this is just a suggestion based on what I've read and my own "take" on how I would re-design the product if it was my idea. You may, of course, take it or leave it. I have also read the description and comments for the plate you have designed and marketed, and I would also suggest a similar re-design of that item along the same lines as for the mug.

I have been struggling to find a solution to keeping my coffee hot in the cup without having to mess with hotplates and other prior solutions (which never worked very well because of the insulating properties of the cup) and have found the solution with the HotSmart Mug,which works exactly as well designed, PROVIDED that one follow the instructions and microwave the cup first in order to supply energy to the heat reservoir that is built in at the bottom of the cup. This energy is then available through passive transfer to the fluid in the cup (as it loses heat to the atmosphere). The cup was heavy, the instructions were confussing. The bottom line is my coffee did not stay hot/warm but the outside bottom would remove the finish of a fine table is coaster not used. Not worth all the prep microwave process for the end result!

I purchase one of these for my 26 foot four winns, and the unit works great. The unit has actually 3 dc compressors inside and cycles them on and off as the thermostat tells it to. We set it on low for a little cooling at night and it consumes about 18 amps.

I bought this based on the other 2 user reviews, and now I'm convinced these were created by the manufacturer.

There's nothing positive I can say about this product, but as for the negatives...

It has barely any effect on the room temperature when set to air-cooling mode.

It's extremely loud and obnoxious. Seriously, it sounds just like an idling lawn mower.

Emits a nasty, exhaust-like smell.

Save yourself the time and money, you really don't want this product at any price.

EDIT (6/10/11): My suspicions about the other 2 reviewers (Ken Manning, Dave Martin) at the time of my purchase can be confirmed by their reviewing and tagging history. Look for yourselfBoth have only reviewed this product (with a raving positive review of course), and have tagged every Whynter product with an assortment of positive/descriptive adjectives. Ken Manning even went so far as to tag several competing products as "defective" and "not cold". Well, I know what brand NOT to trust now.

After reading the other reviews, my story is hardly unique here. The product worked (marginally, I might add) for about 3 weeks before beginning one night to emit a deafening, grinding noise. I disassembled the whole thing to see if I could figure out the problem. Didn't help. I emailed Whynter customer service and after several back and forth exchanges with basically useless ideas to fix it, I got a return authorization to send it back. I heard absolutely NOTHING from them for over six weeks until I basically hounded them about the whereabouts of my unit. After TWO MONTHS of waiting, it finally arrived again. I plugged it in and was greeted by...THE SAME HORRIBLE NOISE! After over two months, they fixed absolutely nothing. It sucks. They suck. Do yourself a favor and DON'T BUY THIS GARBAGE!

Whynter Air Cooler/Heater/Humidifier

Timeframe: 2 months

My usage conditions: 51F to 78F, Humidity 60% to 80%

Functions used: Heater, evaporative air cooler, humidifier.

Design:

I selected this primarily for the design and color scheme. I did not want another white/beige appliance or some psychedelic blue or pink candy painted device. Conventionally shaped and subtle in overall appearance. Top marks.

Functionality: The Whynter air cooler is a misnomer, while it does a solid job cooling a 150square foot space, it does a whole lot more than cool. The heat was nice to have when the temperature dipped and the humidity control is very useful when dealing with dry air resulting from heater use. Intuitive and easy to control. The water tank at the base take a bit of jiggering to slide in and out but otherwise I do not have any issues with it. The filters built into the unit do provide some degree of purification. My room air purifier lasted about 30% longer before the indicator light came on. It is light weight and portable, but be careful when you move it with the water tank filled.

Quality:

Well built with softtouch controls. The remote control was responsive and fit nicely into the attached holster on the unit. Material is were primarily plastic. Easy to clean and maintain. Pre-filter is easily removed and cleaned. No fuss device.

Price:

Quite reasonable for all that it does. I would take this over 3 or 4 separate devices any day.

Overall:

One of my better purchases this year. top scores across the board.

Whynter Eco-Friendly 5 in 1 Evaporative Air Cooler (HAC-100S)

Never quite experienced an air cooler before, it is decidedly a good product that does well for the price. This unit does a good job cooling at a fraction of the cost of an air conditioner and without the power consumption or setup needed. Don't expect the room to cool down significantly, air coolers don't work that way. This provides superior comfort in a 15ft radius.

In fact, I prefer to have this on compared to an air conditioner on dryer days.

I'm not an uber technical person but from my understanding, what it does is to use water to and the cooling effect of an evaporative process. This is especially useful for sensitive or dry skin. Currently used in the bedroom but am adding an additional unit in the den.

Not real setup is required, just fill the unit with water and set it on, it makes an odd noise when the water bucket is empty but just fill it up again and you'll be fine. The louvers are a little flimsy but can be popped back into place quite easily. It's easy to move around and small enough to put in most spaces. Oh, and it comes with handy heater mode too.

Wow! I have been drooling over this fireplace for two years. It was very expensive, but I had to have it! I can't believe I found it on Amazon two weeks ago for only $449 for the stainless steel finish. Most sites offer it from $600-800. It arrived timely, and was packaged well.
