I bought two of these heaters a year ago for emergencies and they have been sitting in their box ever since. But, when hurricane Sandy knocked out power, they more than paid for themselves. I got them for winter storms and never thought I'd be using them in cold weather after a hurricane. They worked exactly as advertised. These are not whole house heaters. They are great room heaters and make life much more comfortable in an emergency. They have several safety features but I also have a carbon monoxide detector that I keep in the room with them. It's probably like wearing suspenders and a belt but it makes me more comfortable to have a detector as an extra safety precaution. In my emergency supplies I also have a camp stove and lantern. These all take the same one pound propane bottles. I keep a case of the gas bottles on hand. This gives me heat, light, and hot coffee in the morning. I don't like it when the electric goes out but I try to get into the camping trip mentality and make the most out of an uncomfortable situation. These heaters helped me do that and stay comfortable.

If you fulltime in an RV, you know about cold days & nights. Maybe you want to warm the bedroom before showering, or maybe you want to warm your tootsies while watching DWTS. This "Portable Buddy" will do the trick for short bursts of heat.

I'm amazed to say the sides & bottom remained cool to the touch ("cool" as in room temp) after a full hour of use. Of note: it didn't heat a glass of cold water touching its side. Indeed, the LP can on the other side got cold enough to attract condensate! No gas smell during use.

It includes an oxygen sensor among its multiple failsafes -but take care when using it in an RV bedroom. If you put it on a dresser, it could melt your ceiling. Also, your bedroom will heat up VERY quickly, so please don't leave it unattended.

Disposable LP cans cost a lot, but right now I only plan to use it for spot applications. In the future, though, I'll look at a refillable 4lb tank to make it cheap to operate.

Got this to use in my tent on a scout camping trip and it works great. Only pain is changing the small propane bottle in the middle of the night when it runs out! Probably worth getting the optional connectors to hook it up to a bigger tank.

Honest reviews on Mr. Heater F232000 MH9BX Buddy 4,000-9,000-BTU Indoor-Safe Portable

I have been using a portable heater for the Green House to keep things at 48 degrees when the temperatures go below that;however, the lowest heat raises the temperature to 66 at 40 degrees and the middle setting bring the temperature from 34 to 75 degrees. I needed something dependable and 4,000 BTU and 9,000 BTU might just heat my green house, 12 feet by 12 feet, and not caused any leaf yellowing or bloom drop.

It was the answer.

The Heater is well made, enamel and should not give me any rust problems. It is light in weight, about 2.5 lbs, and has a low oxygen alarm and will turn off if the stove turns over. I hook it up to a propane gas hose with a leak detector on the propane tank. Turning on the heater is a breeze. I move the dial from shut to pilot light, and push down the dial which gives a spark and the pilot lite goes on. I count to 30 and move the dial to the low setting. The ceramic plate turns to a faint pink glow and I wait a minute to make sure it does not go out. I get about 5 hours on a pound of propane. The temperature raises about 12.5 degrees and holds it there. If the outside temperature is 36 degrees, I will stay at 48 in the green house. If it gets to 34 or 35, I need to go to high, which raises the temperature about 15 degrees, to 49 degrees. The plants are happier. I bought a second such Heater in case we have a problem and the temperature goes into the 20 degree range. It has happened in the past but only rarely. I think two heaters can handle that, one on high and one on low. The prior heater used half a lb. of propane an hour so this heater is a money saver. I read that the heater does not get hot on the outside and it is true. This is a fantastic product.

I tried electric heaters in the past but the current drain was so great the fan would turn at a snails pace. I knew then that I had to use gas to get the heat I required.

As an after thought, you can tell how much propane you have in the 20 lb. tank. Take the propane tank, empty, in your hands and step on the scale and record the weight. Then weight yourself and subtract the difference and you have the weight of the tank.

Paint it on the tank, empty weight. It is hard to read the Total Weight on the tank as it is engraved on the tank and often difficult to see. When you get the tank filled, weight it as you stand on the scale, and after subtracting your weight, record the full weight of the tank with the gas and paint it on the tank. If you have no paint, buy a cheap nail polish and paint it on the tank. Where I live, the temperature has dropped around Midnight to 46 and gets to 42 around 4 a.m. and up to 48 by 10 a.m.. I just turn the heater on at Midnight and turn it off at 10 a.m. when the sun is heating the green house. I weight the tank and find I used two lbs. for 10 house. One tank should last me 10 days. With my other heater, I got 40 hours or 5 days, plants got too much heat and lost leaves and blooms.

This is my second Mr. Heater product, I also have the smaller version. This is a significant improvement in both heat capacity and being "Indoor-Safe". It has proven very effective and reliable, and it makes living aboard my boat in the winter (Chesapeake Bay) quite comfortable. Especially this winter, '09-'10.

Great looking unit and extremely quiet. Perfect for those chilly times when you just need to get warm quickly. The remote control is easy to operate and has simple temperature control settings.

I did considerable research on several competitive models before buying and found Comfort Furnace to be the highest rated for the money. Make sure you read the customer satisfaction reviews, which are so important in your choices. So glad I made this decision.

The infrared heat warms you instantly, rather than merely warming the air. The UV air cleaner smells clean, and nice to have the option of shutting that feature off. The thing is handsome and small enough to tuck into the bottom of our bookcase cabinets when not in use. Because we do not have to heat all the air in our rental house in order to stay comfortable, we anticpate savings on the electric bill

A huge disappointment. I wanted to heat a fairly small room (about 200 sq ft) and hoped that this product would do the trick without the help of standard baseboard heat. On a cold day, in the 20's for example, the unit raises the room temp by 1 or 2 degrees after an hour at the maximum setting. There is no way this unit could heat an area of 1000 sq ft.

Save yourself about 300 dollars and get a standard space heater like a Lasko. It will do just as good of a job as a "Comfort Furnace".

Quiet, efficient heater. Looks great in the room and we enjoy the warmth of the heat given. The best model heater yet!!!

Bonavita 1.0L Electric Kettle BV3825B Review

First of all, this is the ONLY pouring kettle I could find that is also an electric kettle, which is a great combination if you are in the market for both. The price ($50) seems fair as the competing pouring kettles cost about the same or more, all of which are non-electric.

The kettle seems to be well built and looks nice. I got this kettle for making coffee in a Hario v60 manual pour-over brewer, and it does the job well: the thin gooseneck spout lets you do a steady controlled pour. It's not as big as the picture makes it look, I think it's just the right size.

So at this point I can recommend this kettle. It remains to be seen how durable it is, I am going to update my review in a couple of months to reflect that aspect.

Update 01/12/12

So, another point I would like to mention is that the bottom of the kettle is flat, the heating element is hidden, so it is quite easy to clean. Also, I have found that it is very convenient to use this kettle with a needle-type thermometer to control the temperature. This can be done by inserting the thermometer into one of the three vents at the top (the manual does not recommend that, but it works great for me).

Update 03/27/12

...3 months later, this kettle works just fine. No issues at all.

Update 03/20/13

So I've had it for more than a year now and continue to use daily as my do-it-all kettle, not just for coffee. It's still going strong, haven't had a single problem with it, it's just great.

I really didn't think that how you pour water into a coffee maker such as a Chemex, or other manual funnel method, would make a difference. Well, I was wrong. I had been using a tea kettle to both heat and pour water, but the pour-rate was hard to control. With the Bonavita, that is no longer the case.

Just this morning, I made a Chemex pot of some freshly roasted Guatemalan Finca la Providencia (Taraccino Coffee in Minneapolis... cool place to get some great coffee), and with the Bonavita, a steady stream of water was EASY to do. And the result was an incredible brewed coffee. Though the flavor profile has much to do with the brewing method, that brewing method is greatly affected by the pour. The Guat has never had the depth it did this morning. Amazing cup that really did surprise me. The body rivaled that of my vac-pot brewer. I'm a convert to this style of pouring spout. Really makes the slow-pour that much easier to do, and control.

Now for another important aspect of this kettle the actual heating of the water. Quick! 30 ounces of water took maybe four minutes. While there isn't a whistle like on the tea kettle, boiling water makes a very recognizable sound. First it gets louder and louder, then quieter as it goes to a true boil. Then, the kettle's heater automatically turns off. I listen, and have gotten quite good at knowing when to start my grinder so that it finishes right before the water is ready to pour.

Finally, the quality of the kettle is quite satisfactory. Nice materials and good build-quality. My guess is that I will be using this kettle for years to come.

The thing that sets this kettle apart from most electric kettles is the spout. The slim spout allows for accurate, steady pouring for tea, coffee, etc.

I wasn't sure I'd like the handle, but it is actually designed really well for ergonomics. The weight of the water is balanced properly when holding the handle, so it's functionally great. I still don't like the look of the handle, and it is plastic as opposed to stainless steel. But they're putting the money where it needs to go, so at the price, this kettle is great!

The kettle does heat up quickly (3-4 minutes) which compares well to other kettles. For manually brewing pourover coffee, this kettle is fantastic. If you're a coffee shop doing manual pourovers, the size will be a limiting factor.

The lid fits securely (unlike its Hario competitor).

The base is simple with a cord wrap and about a 3 foot cord.

The metal is appropriately thick (it's not heavy duty, but it is sturdy and solid).

The on/off switch has been accurately shutting off at the right temperature so far even at different water levels.

It has cleaned up nicely and has felt very safe to use. Has held up to regular use for a few months so far with no damage. Between the electric Hario (which is very nice) and this model, I'd take the Bonavita every day (except on the day when aesthetics means more than functionality) .

Honest reviews on Bonavita 1.0L Electric Kettle BV3825B

I bought this kettle for the spout! My vintage glass teapot is great for boiling water, but I was having trouble slowing down the pour using it with my Chemex. After doing some research I bought this, and so far I love it. You can pour at at trickle or faster if you want; this greatly improves the pour over brewing process.

This is my first electric kettle and it is very simple to use. It takes around 6 minutes to boil a full pot (1 liter) of cold filtered water. Some reviewers have said this is slow but it doesn't bother me. It has a 1000W heater, while other electric kettles are 1500W, so the slower boil makes sense.

The workmanship seems solid; the brushed stainless steel is attractive and feels heavy enough to last. The plastic handle is easy to grip and stays cool to touch. There is no plastic inside the kettle except at the very top so your boiling water will not come in contact with plastic if that concerns you. Also, this product boasts a 2 year warranty which is longer than most small appliances these days.

This is the only electric kettle available (that I have found) with a gooseneck spout, so if you prefer manual brewing get this kettle. It really makes a difference!

1) The bottom developed numerous small rusty spots (brownish color) inside after three days of use;

2) The kettle leaves a small puddle under the handle every time I boiled the water. The more water I boil the bigger the puddle is.

RESUME:

This is the only kettle without plastic parts, contacting with the boiling water, and it is very small, so it would be an ideal tea kettle for my office, but the 1) and the 2) above forced me to return it

So far I must say I love these register heaters. They seem to be well made, with nice heavy steal boxes that go into the wall space. I put them in to solve a nagging problem with a rental house I own; propane tank heat. The min. purchase from the dealer is currently $300.00 plus, and that lasts about one month during the winter. I can't get natural gas run, so I had to find an alternative, other than replace my whole central system with a heat pump. (EXPENSIVE!) The house is really small so a few well placed heaters can easily heat it. I bought two of these and wired them to a good line-in thremostat on the wall. When I finished all the wiring and installation and turned them on, Super! Nice sound, not too loud, certainly not as loud as my central system fan. I still have the propane heat monster for back up when the weather becomes really cold, but these should save the tenants gobs of money compared to the gas. I added baseboard heaters to the bedrooms for their soundless heat and a in-the-wall unit in the bathroom. All Cadet, a US company. Do the calculations on energy usage and cost, I was quite surprised how little extra it adds to the bill, and compared to my propane cost, which ran every tenant off after one year. The whole package of heaters and thermostats cost me about 1.5 times the minimum charge for propane, about the same as a half a tank. I would give it five stars, but I need to see how they are after a year.

I don't normally leave reviews But I felt like this deserved a review.

I am an electrician by trade, so I have installed a number of electric heaters. This is by far the best most well made electric heater I have ever had my hands on. The case is thick metal. The heater is well made. Its great. Great quality, made in america. I can't say a bad thing about it. I am totally impressed.

I bought a couple of these for a remodel and was replacing old baseboard heaters. I am so delighted with the appearance and function of these heaters.

Honest reviews on Cadet #63314 240v White Register Heater - Complete Unit

I installed 3 of these in a basement remodel. I am driving all of them with a single thermostat and have adjusted them to match the heat requirements of each location. The ability to do this is great. Installation was very easy and they look clean. I went with these because I wanted to save the floorspace electric baseboard requires. Although the winter is over, they seem to put out a decent amount of heat but will have to wait untill fall to really know. The only thing is that they are bit louder than what I had expected. It is a hum it does not affect talking or watching TV but it is there. Probably I would not put one of these in a bedroom though.

Works fine, good heat output and surfaces stay cool. The "replaceable" heating element is a bit misleading since the heating elements cannot be found anywhere. If you buy this item, make sure the elements are seated properly because if an end is not properly seated it will burn out over time.

When we first got this heater we were concerned that it wasn't going to heat the large room we were using it in. We are using it in our basement, which is about 650 square feet. After it had been running for a few days, though, it really heated the room well. It continues to do so. It has a lot of nice features also.

This heater performs exactly as advertised. It's well built and works perfectly. My house is cold since it came equipped with a heat pump that doesn't. This is a fine little heater and one of our dog's favorites. Since he sleeps for hours in front of it, I appreciate the low power setting the heater has and its ability to heat an area, and a dog, safely and comfortably.

I love this heater, in that it heats the finished section of my basement (approximately 550 square feet) very easily. Better yet, my electric bill doesn't go up much at all. I keep it on the regular setting (even without adjusting the thermostat down) and it will make my basement warm and cozy WITHOUT a big jump in cost. This is comforting to know, because I can virtually run the unit all day without cost concerns. I recommend this electric stove for those who have a medium-sized room to heat, and for those who love a nice accent (log & flames) as well.

Here in MI things get cold quick and living in a cold finished basement makes things tough. My computer room is a tiny 6x10 and doesn't have vents for heat. The hallway near the doorway lacks them as well so it gets very cold. When I saw this heater for i figured to give it a try for that room.

The heat is just about instant. No waiting for it to warm up. The thermostat works nice to keep the room at a very comfortable level. Nice to have so you don't have to keep adjusting and turning on and off. Sound is very quiet. Much more quiet than my normal desk fan, but it sits on the floor under the desk. I just realized its sitting right on the carpet and I wouldn't worry about it falling over or anything. It is very sturdy and kicking it somewhat gently doesn't knock it over. The unit is very cool to the touch even while running. I actually picked it up while running and was examining the bottom.

I was kinda disappointed about one thing. From the picture on the box I assumed it would oscillate which would be a cool feature, but since its only its not a big deal at all. It does have a swivel base that turns about 45 degrees either way, but with it being so light I don't see a point.

This unit is 1500 watts ... um or amps ... whichever the case, my computer is a gamer computer and it draws ... a lot. So the point is that when I am gaming, I have noticed that every time the heater kicks on the lights dim a little bit just for a split second since I have them both running off the same circuit. I don't know if I would put them in the same outlet ... but then again nothing goes into the same outlet as the PC anyways.

Pros: light, quiet, instant heat, doubles as a fan, PRICE!

Cons: not really any unless you need one that oscillates or you are going to land an airplane with your Christmas lights this year.

I used this both for cooling (in fan-only mode) and heating. The heat works great, and it warms up almost instantly. The cooling side is good, but it doesn't push as much air as some regular fans, so I need it a 2-3 feet away to feel enough breeze to cool me.

The plastic grill does rapidly change color to show it's hot, but I found that unneeded because the grill itself never gets hot. At times, I've had it accidently fall over or get covered, and it's never overheated or made something crispy. :-)

The thermostat also works well, and is easy and user-friendly to adjust. The fan is very quiet; sometimes I don't notice it's on. It's very lightweight and is easily swiveled to fine-tune the direction.

Mine finally died after frequent use for 8-10 months, but I feel I got my money's worth, and I'm buying another to replace it.

Bought this to warm a cold study but it started sparking on the 3rd use ( and past time I could return it). Completely defective I can hear loose wire when I pick it up. The sparks were frightening if I hadn't been in the room I don't know what might have happened but now I understand how space heaters burn houses down.

Honest reviews on Holmes HFH421-U Heater Fan with Adjustable Thermostat

I bought this in the winter of 2007 to heat a cold office. It worked well and I used it for a few hours each weekday for two winters. Toward the end of the third winter (last year), it started turning off after a few minutes of use. Now it stays on for about two minutes and then shuts off for 5-10 minutes. It's not being used in an enclosed space or with anything close to it; it seems to be sensing overheating without actually overheating. Maybe I'm expecting too much by thinking this should have lasted longer, but two and a half winters of use just doesn't seem like enough. I wouldn't recommend this heater.
