Since there were no videos or anything of this new product, I was a little hesitant to buy it, but I wanted to have it when I was home for the holidays. It came in a huge box and was well packed. Instructions were easy and I had it together in about 20 minutes. Turned it on and played with the remote controlled light, heat, and flame speed features...and it really looks like a real fire and puts out a good amount of heat. I had it on every day while I was home and was just please to push a button, have a "fire", not worry about wood or ashes or a smokey smell in the house, etc. I would recommend this product!

I only got to use this three times before it stopped heating. It still lights up but it gives off absolutely no heat now. For $600 it should have lasted longer than that. Very disappointed.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: I had to update my review to reflect my recent experience with Dimplex a drop from 5 stars to 3 stars. The logs started to flicker and the heater started to randomly cut out after a few weeks of use. I understand that things like this happen, and that it may have been damaged in shipping so I sent an email to customer service to explain the problem. I got a response after a couple of days from someone who gave me a customer service number to call. I called in and waited for over 2 hours, no joke, before someone picked up. The person was very friendly and told me that they would send out a brand new set of logs and it would take 7-10 business days to receive them this was on February 25th. I am writing this on April 14th I just checked the website with my call number and it says that the order is still "In Process". These are a great product, but just be aware of what could happen if you have any problem with them.

We had our chimney inspected and it would have cost thousands to make it safe for a real fire, or even a gas fire, so I started looking into other options. I decided on these logs because of how realistic they looked, and I am not disappointed. The inner glow of the logs is so natural looking. You would really need to look closely to notice these aren't real, especially if you put a screen in front.

I already had gas coming into the fireplace, so I capped the copper gas line in the crawlspace and then cut the existing line and used it as a conduit for the electrical. I installed a single electrical connector and hid the wires behind the logs. After doing this, I completely sealed off the chimney since this doesn't need an open chimney and I figured that I may as well seal off a hole and save on heating/cooling bills.

I also purchased 5 pounds of black glass embers which help to make the whole thing look a little more realistic and is a lot cleaner than using charcoal.

The end result is an extremely realistic looking fire that I can have running as ambiance without producing heat, or I can set the thermostat at any temperature I want, as high as 125 degrees, to produce as much heat as I need.

The only complaint I have is that the remote seems to be a little funky, but it is an RF remote, and they tend to not be as responsive as IR remotes. The good thing about RF remotes is that they work through walls and don't need to be pointed directly at whatever you are controlling.

Overall, I highly recommend this unit.

Installation was easy and the product has a nice finish. Looks great in our living room. Eventhough it was bought just for the look and feel of a fire place, it does give off a fair amount of heat as well when you use 3 cans of gel. I Like the center panel that flips down which hides the audio/video equipment when not in use.

Make sure you also purchace the Gel fuel it does not come with the Fireplace. You may also want to get a Snuffer.

This product turned out to work perfectly. It arrived on time and it works as it should. A quartz heater is the only solution for a loft where you need to heat the room rather than all the heat going upstairs!

However, this particular quartz heater (unlike the ones I've had before) is fan-forced, which in my opinion is not as desirable because of the noise issue. It is not noisy as some fan heaters, but I would have preferred the quiet kind, they works just as well. Maybe in my enthusiasm, I didn't check that very carefully...I don't remember seeing 'fan-forced' in the description but I could be wrong.....anyway, that's why I am changing my rating to 4.

For $26 its definitely worth the money. The temperature control isn't exactly the most accurate. You don't have a temperature scale just markings from off to hi. Runs real hot or not at all. With control knob set half-way it blasts out hot heat then turns itself completely off. If I try to reduce the heat, it doesn't turn on at all. I'm oscillating between very cold (it's off) and overly hot (it's on). Will return it and spend more money on something that can be controlled.

i purchased this item because of unseasonably cold weather in south fl.i own two patton heaters purchased some years ago,one at k mart, the other at target.both seem well built and have worked very well. most stores were sold out of space heaters,so amazon.com seemed like a good alternative. i have no problem with amazon.com or the seller, . the product was shipped promptly and boxed very well.the problems with the new heater were,top two sheet metel screws to attach the handle fell thru the pre drilled holes, two of six screws holding the back housing on were stripped out, two of four rivets attaching the fan motor housing had pulled out. i compared the other two heaters i bought years ago to the new one,the one difference was machine screws holding the top handle on, not sheet metal screws. i needed the heater so i repaird the problems myself. bottom line is i never again will buy patton products [unless they start manufacturing there product in the U. S. A. as they should be]. I do not recommend this product.

These little heaters used to be very good. I would buy one about every three years because after that long the plug would start to get hot. I would just replace it with another one. The last one I bought the plug got hot after about 10 minutes use so I took it back. The replacement was worse. After 10 minutes use it was almost to hot to touch. They have obviously reduced the wiring size to a dangerous size. I would not recommend them now to anyone. They could start a fire, I think, if left on for an hour. I still have one I've used during the winter for the past two years and it does not get hot after using all day long.

It is NOT real but uses about 10 watts without the heater, looks fine and does have a remote control and separate heat, NO sound. The heater has a blower fan that makes a little noise but seems to put out a decent amount of heat for a small electric heater. I have glass screen doors so I really can not comment on the actual effectiveness of the heater.

I moved my gas logs to the back. I place this unit on the old grate which elevates the units remote sensor and controls above the brass base trim of my glass doors. In an emergency I could remove the unit and use gas.

TIP: Looks are dependent on room lighting. The dancing flames are projected out the back. A 24"x24" piece of cardboard upright 3"-4" behind helps the flames appearance. The cardboard could be spay painted any color to match the interior.

UPDATE: This unit has been "ON" (no heat) for at least 4 hours each day and usually closer to 12-16 hours for more than the last 2 weeks. It has given new LIFE to the 15 year unused fireplace dark hole in the wall.

This unit is probably my best $100 purchase this year if it continues to run.

UPDATE 2: I have lowered my rating. After 3 weeks of extended use the flame intensity seems to have diminished some. I am glad I did not pay over $100. It does not look like it will last. It does have a 3 year warranty but returns are a pain including the time of waiting for a replacement.

I was shopping around for alternative method fireplaces & this is the best & cheapest one I found. Just moved into an old victorian with 3 beautiful fireplaces that have been sealed. Since I am renting & not the owner, I wanted a way to enjoy my beautiful fireplace & also get heat from it ( super expensive to run the old heating system). I had a tower ceramic heater, but that looked bad & got in the way. I looked into the gel log sets, the silly looking logs that you put candles in (too expensive to buy the gels all the time) The fireplaces made by the amish(and others like it) were way too big to fit in my small fireplace & 100's of dollars! this one has heat, a remote (battery included :D) & all you have to do is plug it in. The "flames" are made by a rolling device that emits LED light in the shape of flames. When the lights are on it can look kinda hokeybut it looks almost real with the lights off.

As a little girl of the 70's I remember watching the Christmas specials with the snow falling outside and everyone sitting in front of the fireplace singing Christmas carols by a roaring fire, hot chocolate in hand, Christmas stockings hanging from the mantle and the Christmas tree twinkling in the background but reality is that I am a Florida native and our Christmases here are usually very balmy so a fireplace is just out of place here. Nevertheless I have always wanted a fireplace that I could decorate for the holidays just like in all of those Christmas specials I watched as a child but I live in a rental home so building a real fireplace is out of the question so what was I to do? I was so excited about my find but I am a very choosy person when purchasing something I can't actually touch and examine so it took me 2 weeks to finally decide on which electric fireplace insert I wanted AND then make the jump to purchasing it so after 2 weeks and looking at pictures of every electric fireplace insert I could find online I finally chose the one with the most realistic effect and with heat. I am thrilled with my KW electric log set w/heater! Right now it is set up in my living room awaiting it's mantle(hubby isn't quite motivated lol) but even right out of the box this electric log set is beautiful and so easy to use. Just plug it in and turn it on. The remote is very simple to use with only 3 buttons, one for power, one for flame effect and one for heat and even better you can turn the heat off and just use the flame effect which I do every night! The only thing I wish it had is sound effects but I still love, love, love, my "fireplace" and I can't wait to get it all decorated for Christmas this year. It's going to be magical!

First off this heater is a novelty item. If you put it in the fireplace the internal thermostat shuts it off when the fireplace gets to the temperature. You have to pull out the fireplace to get it to warm up the room which looks silly with a fake stack of wood in your living room. Lastly and most importantly the plug has started to melt. The cord/plug gets too hot to touch. I am leaving this review from a mobile device so unable to post the picture of the plug(will do so at a later time). Save your money get a "safe" space heater and as for your fireplace amazon has nice decorative candle holders or gel fuel logs.

Like a previous reviewer I got the heater damaged. It was banged in on the side. On the same side the piece you handle it with( since you cannot touch the fins when it's hot) was half broken off. I was so desperate for the heater that I overlooked it since it didn't affect the fins for the heat.

On the positiveit does work well for heating a small room.

it was cheaper than similiar heaters(in the $30's) when I purchased it.

it appears to be a safe heater.

On the negativethere's no numbers on the unit just high or low and some dots in between these levels, so you cannot gauge the different levels between high & low.

it increases the electric bill more than I expected it would which makes it expensive to run.

For some reason the product was shipped without much care taken (UPS) and arrived in a banged up box. Even the styrofoam packing inside was broken into pieces. The heater inside did not look completely new, either, with black scuff-marks on the front panel. However, the hardware all looked completely pristine and new. Indeed, I am not a fussy consumer, so ultimately I wouldn't care if it were a returned product sold as new. Bottom line: it works absolutely perfectly. Exceeds expectations. The hardware was easy to attach. The heat is consistent, silent, odorless and safe. I use it around my small son with no worries. It has no temperature setting in actual numbers (C or F) that you can set, so you do have to guess by trial and error until you find a temperature that you wish the product to maintain. That is the downside. But, it will maintain that temp. all night, perfectly, with no cold intervals while it turns on again. The price is lower than competitors, but with the exorbitant shipping cost (see complaints about shipping above), the final price is equal to or slightly lower than DeLonghi, for example. I am happy with this product and expect to use it for many years.

Day one: Used it for cream of asparagus soup. Hooked it up about thirty minutes before I was ready to have lunch. When I came to get it the soup had burned onto the metal heater coil in the device. It stopped working. I threw it away. Maybe it works ok for fluids but if you're trying to heat a cream based soup or other thick soup in it....beware.

I fully understand you cannot ever please everyone. The main reason I like reviews on Amazon is that I can read everything, possibly understand why someone did not like something, see comments others have made about those reasons, and decide for myself if it's something I would still be ok with. This towel warmer is great. I got it as a Christmas gift 2010, and just really like it. I wanted one for my enclosed outdoor gazebo where the hot tub is, and I didn't want something that had to be plugged in and left powered on all the time. I put the towel in when I go into the gazebo, when I take it out to use I immediately drop in my robe so it's warm when I am done with the towel. This is definitely the warmer to make those "right out of the dryer" towels and robes. I have also dropped in socks, sweatpants and shirts on occasion. I have a huge towel that is 5'x7'... it fits in this warmer just fine. I do not roll my towels up as the photos of the item suggest. I hold it by one corner, drop in the opposite corner, and kind of just wiggle the towel down into the warmer, push it down to fit the lid on, and it warms even that huge towel completely.

As for the smell, yes it's noticeable at first, but has already dissipated in mine to where it's barely there anymore. I would suggest turning it on without a towel in it, leave the lid off and let it run the warming cycle. Let it cool down completely, then run it again like that. I can see why it takes awhile to get rid of the smell if you're only turning it on while a towel is in it and the lid is on. The smell has nowhere to go but into your towel!

I got this directly from our local Brookstone due to one of the raters on this item bemoaning having to return (a defective unit?) by mail. I would feel comfortable buying this online here because I'm extremely pleased with the warmer I got locally over 3 weeks ago. (This was originally posted in February 2011.) I've been using it at least once a day and sometimes twice a day from the day I bought it. I would definitely recommend this to someone looking to buy a great working and sturdy towel warmer.

REMEMBER: LARGER THICKER TOWELS TAKE IN MORE HEAT AND RETAIN IT LONGER! Don't be a cheapo and use small flimsy towels. They won't hold heat or warm right.

This warmer is shaped like a trash can, just short of 2' tall and 13" at the widest point. I would have preferred a smaller warmer but am so pleased with the way this unit heats towels I don't care anymore that is larger than I wanted. The cover is clear Plexiglas and you can see the condensation from the warmer drying any damp towel you'd put in there. I have even used it to dry a damp towel before hanging the towel back up. I always warm 2 large bath towels without having to cram them in. It is also large enough to warm jackets, bath robes, reasonably sized blankets, gloves, socks, pants and even shirts or sweatshirts or use your imagination for something you may want warmed. Just be careful when warming things with metal or plastic zippers, buttons, or snaps. It could end up causing something sensitive to become very uncomfortable.

Run the unit open and several times to try and get some of the VERY LIGHT plastic smell out before using this for towels. I like to warm 2 large 5' X 3' plush towels at a time and run the cycle twice. The secret is to start about AT LEAST 15 18 minutes before you plan on getting out of the bath or shower. When the green light goes off wait about 30 to 60 seconds and start the heat cycle again. You may have to wait a bit longer or keep pressing the start button or hold it down a few seconds to start the second cycle. There will still be a VERY SLIGHT plastic smell on the heated towel but nothing enough to be a bother.

Impatient people need not apply. As long as you start it before you bathe or shower it will be ready when you get out if you want to run it 2 times before using the towel(s). I tried to reheat 3 times to see what it would be like but it gets a tad hot and seems overkill.

Other than the larger size which I wish was smaller I easily overlook the size for the benefits the warmer provides. The price is nice too compared to the place that sells bedroom and bathroom things and stuff from beyond. They also carried a smaller warmer that Brookstone and Hamburger Schmuckler also sell but at higher prices that provides less space for smaller towels, uneven warming, and a product defect with the on/off button. The on off button on this model is solid.

I highly recommend this warmer and am looking forward to giving at Christmas this year! I am not easily impressed with things like this one but I am hooked on using this. I make it a point to do a 2 time heat up because I love my towels on the hot side. You won't be disappointed. If you are leery about buying online go and buy one from a brick & mortar Brookstone. That way, if you are unhappy you can return it easily, but I'm pretty sure you will be more than pleased with this warmer.

Another thing to remember is that you can run the heat cycle repeatedly (with a small wait before starting the heat cycle again) and that is great for families or multi person households. The smaller units are only good for one person with a long wait before another family member can use it. Do yourself a favor and use big thick lush towels as they retain the heat better. If you use a cheap flimsy/thin and smaller towel don't expect it to hold heat very long. I have had one wrapped around my drying long hair for nearly 10 minutes and it still feels slightly warm.

This product is also sturdy. If you are careless you could break the cover though but I think you'd have to be a gorilla or child playing the symbols to break it. Check your local Brookstone first because I got mine for $60.00.

3/8/11 Still working strong and to my satisfaction twice daily for just me. I ALWAYS run the warmer for 2 cycles with 2 large plush towels at a time just for me. Remember to wait for about 60 seconds, maybe a tad more before restarting the 2nd heating cycle. I LOVE this machine.

For best results start the heater early. The first heating runs about 15 to 18 minutes and then I wait about 60 seconds or until the button lets you start the heat cycle again. (You may need to hold the button down a tad longer) The second cycle runs about 8 to 10 minutes. If you want to luxuriate in warm towels then you have to take the time to run the warm cycle first. Time it so you start and end your shower or bath 4 to 8 minutes before you get out of the bath or shower. Anyone grumbling about cool towels or towels not staying warm long aren't using good towels and/or are running the warmer the moment they hop in the shower. Give this puppy time to do its work and you be extremely happy and WARM! Try to time it for your shower or bath to end a few minutes after the second cycle shuts off. Hey I know this sounds humbug but man the results are worth it!

I do feel more comfortable for a longer time after my showers now because of the warm towel drying me while keeping me warm unlike the regular cool towel that doesn't warm the cooling water evaporating off of your skin after hopping out of the shower as in the past. I feel warmer and better for a longer time after a shower because of using this.

To be honest I can't think of anything that makes me feel so good that I always look forward to using it and make it a point to prep it the pain in the ass way. I LOVE THIS MACHINE!!

3/17/11 The warmer is still going strong. I was about to throw the box out today and noticed that the receipt stated "We want you to be satisfied. Returns are welcome within 60 days with receipt and packaging. See reverse for policy..." When I saw that I was blown away. Not many people honor a 60 day money back guarantee nowadays. I am impressed again.

1/8/13 The towel warmer is still going strong and I still heat 2 to 3 large towels for 2 heat cycles at a time and this warmer is still rocking away. I LOVE this towel warmer!

My husband bought this towel warmer from amazon and I felt i needed to write a review. The concept of it is wonderful and it does what it is intended to do. It warms up the towel very nicely. Just pop in your towel, hop in the shower, and by the time you are done, the towel is toasty warm for you. This item however, is only used by my husband because I CAN NOT stand the stinky smell of the machine. We have had it for 2 weeks now and as other reviewers said, you must run a few cycles without towels to make the stink go away. Well, i did this every night at least once or twice in the day for a week...without the lid on top to let the stink air out...and it STILL wreaks of something that makes me want to vomit. I even tried to put in dryer sheets in the bottom of the barrel, hoping to get rid of the smell....but to no avail. I never use the warmer because i feel dirty using the towel when i smell the smell comming from the machine. I really wanted this to be fabulous but the smell is just too gross for me. On the other hand,if you are like my husband and dont mind the yucky smell after a nice clean shower, then you may like this. I like clean fresh smells....especially after a shower.

Bought this in Dec 2010. Worked until now but when it broke it really broke. The auto shutoff stopped working so the towel it was warming started to burn. Luckily I caught it before there were flames but there was definitely the smell of smoldering towel. The towel was almost too hot to touch. I took it straight to the bathtub and gave it a good soaking.

Bottom line: Don't ever leave this device unattended. It is a potential fire hazard.

Called Brookstone and they are replacing it under warranty.

I will begin my review saying I may have just gotten a lemon and plan on exchanging the product for a replacement. But here goes my experience so far:

Ordered the product for Christmas and 1 week later I am returning it. The fumes coming off the warmer are disgusting. It's smells like motor vehicle exhaust like noxious fumes! I have run the product through 20-25 cycles with the lid off and no towel insideit still smells as bad as day 1. It accutally smells up the entire apartment. I have run it another 10 times with towels inside. After about three days I noticed the unit doesn't always turn off after 10 minutes like it is designed to. One day I was running a cycle to try and "burn off" the odor and came back 2 hours later to check and the green light was still on! Can we say fire hazard. 5 days after the initial use, we have noticed there are warm and cold spots on the towels indicating some of the heating element is broken. I contacted amazon for an exchange and the product must be exchanged directly to Brookstone. They emailed me a RMA # and return address label WITH NO POSTAGE. They expect you to pay to ship back the defective product. I immediately called amazon and was connected with Brookstone. They said I can return it directly to a local store which I will do this evening. There was another review stating that the local Brookstone would not accept returns from amazon purchased Brookstone products. I will find out tonight and update the review accordingly.

This is one of the best small heaters you can buy IMO.. I have owned one of these myself for 2 years and bought this current one on amazon for my girl friend so she can bring her living room up to temp a little better then the regular house heat does. These heaters are easy to use, there pretty quiet and I have never had any over heating issues etc.. I live in an older house and since heating the house is expensive I tend to only run this in my room when I'm home or have the day off.. I can turn this heater on when the rooms 48-55 degrees on average and watch the temp climb to 70-75 degrees within 20min.. it has no problem fighting the cold and will even start to heat up the cold hallway if I leave the door open by accident it's a pretty powerhouse unit for it's size if you ask me. The digital thermostat on it is pretty damn accurate.. i have a digital thermometer clock thingy in my room that sits around 6 feet away from the heater and it is always within 1 degree of the heater's set temp. I bought this to replace one I had for years. It seems to be the only heater with an accurate thermostat. -All1500 Watt heaters give out the exact same amount of heat, whether it is a $30 box with glowing ribbons inside or a big piece of wooden furniture with a fancy looking heater inside. An oil filled radiator gives off heat when you shut it off because of how long it took to get warm in the first place. How these thing react to changing conditions is the only difference. This heater has a circuit board for clock, timer and accurate thermostat.

I would have given this 5 stars, as I loved it while it worked. Nice thermostat control and warmed the room nicely with fan blowing heat. BUT it stopped heating after one month of use. I saw that Consumer Reports rated this second to a $400. heater and was hopeful it would last at least one winter. I know Holmes products are cheap and only last a year at best. It does come with a one year warranty, but if you live 50 miles from civilization like I do, that's a whole lot of hassle just to get the product you bought for this very moment freezing cold! I'll never buy Holmes again. And I wish these reviews wouldn't put words in my mouth for the one star rating I don't hate it. I'm frustrated and disappointed and cold and not looking forward to the time and hassle it will take to make it right! I totally loved it while it worked! And I won't buy again from any company that only gives a one month return/exchange policy. If they did a simple exchange, I could have a working heater within the week.

A REVIEW PS: I spoke to the manufacturer (Holmes), and they couldn't have been nicer! They're sending me a new heater this week, just as I had hoped the original seller would do. They make good on their warranties, and it was no hassle at all as I had anticipated. I will buy Holmes again! They said it was highly unusual for this heater to stop heating. So I'm back to giving it 5 stars... once it arrives and is working!

We bought this cozy heater for our converted school bus/ camper. I think it might take a bit too much juice but we have it plugged in for the winter in conjunction with another small heater to keep the bus dry.

I bought the Aroma Induction Cooktop at Costco for $49.99. Up close it looks stylish and feels well built (I don't trust photos). I have a natural gas R366 Wolf at home and this amazing little cooktop will get a pot of water boiling faster.

And I was impressed even more with the ease of clean up. Since the glass doesn't get scorching hot like conventional radiant heat cooktops spilled food will wipe off easily. A big plus.

Another interesting feature...when you turn off the power the cooking stops immediately just like gas.

I'm sold, my next full sized cooktop will be induction.

We bought this from Costco.

Initially I was not so sure, but now I totally love it.

It is an extremely fast and a very cool product. We have to use iron & steel vessels, so it can become a very healthy way of cooking ( no more non-stick).

It has different heat settings as well as timer, eg, I boil water, add pasta or rice or egg, put it in the lowest possible heat setting, put the timer on and forget about it :-) It will beep when its ready.

Making Indian tea is the fastest in induction cooker.

We can also take it outside next to a plug point, for cooking outside (camping or parties)

Things I cook in induction cooker:

Rice

Pasta

Tea

eggs

Boiling water for anything

Coffee

Seasoning

Fish Fry

Any curries or sauces, that need to simmer/boil for some time.

steaming veggies (very quick)

Only drawback I can think of is getting some iron cookwares, it comes very cheap in walmart & target for $10.

Coming from a "foodie" and "chef" home background, I have been predisposed to gas cooking. My Wolf range has seen no spill-overs. I LOVE cooking with gas. As I enter the retirement stage of my life most of living options seem to be electric. I have read a bit about induction cooking and with the help of Costco's affordable Aroma Gourmet Induction Cooktop I am converted.

It heats up super quickly, responds instantaniously to heat changes just as gas does. I have always used cast iron and am super pleased that pieces handed down from my mom and my mother-in-law adapt VERY well to this new way of cooking. I can't believe how quickly the pans heat up. I use the magnet test and am surprised that some of the expensive (wedding gift) stainless cookware will not work, but I have enough that will that I am super, super pleased with this manner of cooking.

I would love to retire to a live-aboard boat and can see that with one induction burner and an oven of some kind my fantastic, gourmet cooking is still possible.

I may not be ready to totally give up a gas grill for outside parties, but this is a truely excellent option.

I am a self-styled gourmet and lover of my own cooking (for the most part!). (Plain, simple, close to the source cooking.)

I've only had this since last week and it's currently my primary cooking device. Bought it from Home depot and paid a little more because amazon didn't have it.

For the price, I think it's a good start for induction cooking if you're new to it.

I'll start with the cons:

The 1 setting might be a little too hot for simmering certain stuff. I've goat meat boiling at 1 right now and it cycles, just like most induction cookers do. Except at the 1 setting, it doesn't come to a crazy boil just 3 seconds at a soft boil and then 8 seconds at calm.

If you've read reviews on amazon about induction cookware, you'll know they do make noise. This is like the fridge noise. It's the fan. I find the noise was higher when i was using the frying pan but a lot less now with the stockpot. The intensity also decreases at lower power levels. The quality of the SS pan determines if you hear the vibrating sorta shrill or not.

It doesn't have the temperature setting like other induction cooktops; just power settings up to 6 levels. (Personally, I don't have a problem with that although i should mention some cooktops have 10. My reasearch showed most people only go up to 6 on those). I

This is soooo not for warming foods. From what i've read, most induction cooktops are a little too hot at the lowest setting to be used as warmers.

Pros:

The device clearly states at the surface that cooking surface will be hot after cooking. The area around it remains cool as I'd water on the device while my pan was at a full boil.

The highest power i've used is 4 for boiling water. most of my cooking have been between 1 and 3.

It works with the cheap stainless steel utensil I got as a gift from penny's.

The timer is nice because I can put stuff on it, set the timer and go to bed as i work nights certain days. I must mention it only goes up to 180 minutes which is 3hrs. I wish it was longer only because goat meat takes about 3-4hrs to cook. My way around it was to set the timer about an hour later right before going to bed.

1500W of power is plenty for everyday cooking.

It cleans easily.

it's very easy to use right out of the box. I've yet to read the manual. I took it right out of the box, plugged it in and started using it. Figured out how the timer works by hitting the button and then hitting the + button.

It fits a small space on my counter top so it's space saving. Plus, If i choose to live in the dorm for school later on, I'll have something portable.

I'll update this review as needed but for now, I highly recommend it. I think it's a bargain at the current price (Amazon sells these for $54.99, you may need to do a new search as this product is listed differently for various sellers.)

update april 2012: Still using this as my primary cooktop and I'm loving it more. if you do have a large dutch oven with thick sauce in it, you can use the 1 setting to keep things warm. Things heat evenly, no hotspots or nothing.

August 2, 2012: This cooktop is dead. Gave me an error message when i put one of my pans on it. Same pan I've always used on it. Yesterday, It would only take my dutch oven. Today, it's just giving an error message for all the pans i put on it and I've different brands of stainless steel appliances. Only lasted a little over half a year. quite awful, in my opinion.

August 8: So I called aroma 2days ago. The rep mentioned 1yr warranty and offered to replace it if i can show proof of purchase so I faxed it to them that evening. Today, they called informing me they don't have this current model but have an upgraded model with a keep warm function and wanted to know if i'm OK with getting that. So they are shipping it today and got a UPS email confirmation 2hrs following the call.

All in all, I'm glad at the ease of product replacement as I was super pissed, hence my 1 star review but I'll move it to 4stars. I've aroma products 4+ years old and this is the first time a product had failed on me.

They told me 5-7days to receive the replacement when i called monday. I went ahead and purchased another induction cooktop on august 3rd as I've noticed that I can't go back to using electric burners. My SS pans looked new when I used this but one day of cooking on an electric burner and I had discoloring at the bottom and food burning and sticking which required soaking, SOS and lots of scrubing. Despite my experience, I still think Induction cooktops are great and I'm a convert.

Love it, I have it in an efficiency and it IS efficient, safe and very economical. Couldn't be more pleased. Remember you do need to buy pots that will work with the induction. So far our cast iron pots and the blue enamel 'camping' gear seem to work. No aluminum or copper bottom.

I bought this heater to take the chill off some of the cold days we had in Florida this last "winter". I did not need to put on my central heating system to heat the whole house when I am in the living room, this little heater did the job just fine.
