We own one for over 6 years now. Love it. Only problem is that because it's mechanical (air pump), that eventually wears out. I think the seal in the pump need replacing. It used to to fill a cup with just one pump, but now takes 10 or more pumps.

Other than that, I love it. I am looking at purchasing a new one, the kind that uses electric pump.

I bought the electric air pot to address a number of issues that needed attention: I wanted to minimize the use of the microwave as much as possible, and I wanted to replace a diet soda pop habit with more healthful drinks. I had an electric kettle, but it was plastic and could not keep water warm throughout the day. I used to have a regular kettle, but I have lupus with some cognitive issues, and that kind of forgetfulness just doesn't mix too well with stove top cooking. I trashed two regular kettles before I got that one through my head.

After getting this product, I am wondering what I ever did without it. I no longer worry about carcinogen exposure from heating water in plastic. The air pot has a nonstick interior, but all of the research I looked at indicated that if there is any risk from unscratched nonstick surfaces, it happens only at temperatures over 350 degrees. Water boils at 212 degrees. Additionally, the interior of the air pot is well-constructed, and there doesn't seem to be any way I could possibly scratch it unless I used a fork or steel wool on it.

It keeps the water a good temperature for most teas, for soups, for getting a head start on pasta or rice, and for making coffee with a french press. The water tastes much better than it tasted after boiling in my plastic kettle. I have added an appliance timer to turn on the airpot before I wake up in the morning so that I do not have to wait for my first caffeine of the day. Zojirushi makes more expensive models that take care of the timer aspect, but I didn't want to spend the extra money.

What I did spend was not too much more than I would have for a non-plastic electric kettle (which, if you look at the reviews, might very well turn out to have plastic parts that have contact with the heated water) that was safer than a regular electric kettle, that was more convenient than a regular electric kettle, and that is already saving me money. I don't drink diet soda anymore, and I don't waste old, cold coffee or tea. I can make what I need as I need it, because the hot water is always readily available.

______

Love it even MORE now!

Months later, I am using the airpot every day. It works perfectly. In addition to using it to make coffee and tea, I use the hot water to get a head start on steel cut oatmeal, pasta, rice, soup (wait, that's not a head start that's the whole thing), just as I was when I first bought it.

However, I have also started using it for non-food applications! I had no idea. Hot packs for sore muscles, in my mop bucket to clean the floor, the extra heat makes a huge difference.

Finally, I have not had any need for this information, but I was contacted by someone who read my review about finding replacement parts. According to Zojirushi's website:

"Replacement parts may be ordered from our online Zojirushi Store or from our Customer Service Department by calling 800-733-6270, M-F, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST. Please have the model number ready when calling."

In short I found this airpot to provide nice hot water and be energy efficient too though I have only been testing it out for several days. As I say below, at 14.7 cents per kilowatt it uses $48.93/year. Now to be more verbose...

After completing the boil and having the water maintained at 208, I decided to check it out with a thermometer. I poured a cup and stuck the probe in, but my digital food thermometer only showed about 170F so I tried another one with similar results. Finally, I just made my self some coffee and it was nice and hot even after adding milk so so much for my thermometers. The only things I have to compare this to are my old airpot (5.5 quarts = 5.2 liters) and my 1500W electric kettle. Compared to my old airpot this one is amazing as my old one had the water barely hot. Compared to my kettle it obviously is not as hot since the kettle gives you freshly boiled water, though you can still add a bit of milk to the water from this airpot and enjoy a satisfying cup (for some reason I imagined 208F to be hotter with respect to how much milk you could add and still be left with a hot cup, but it still gives a satisfying hot cup).

After the initial boil, I remembered that I had a "P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor" (you can check it out on Amazon) which allows me to measure its electricity usage and on my unit I have entered the price of electricity as 14.7 cents per kilowatt. The longer it is connected the more accurate the reading is. Unfortunately I did not connect it before I began the boil but I hope to do so with my next main usage of the airpot this Friday (UPDATE: boiling 3 liters of water cost 3 cents). In any case, I have had it connected for 5 days now and the pot has gone down from full to 1 liter of water left and the reading says it uses $48.93/year or $0.13/day (of course this is assuming you don't add any more water to reheat when it gets low, though at 3 cents a boil it shouldn't add much to the cost) . This is quite amazing. As a comparison, my last 5.5 quart "airpot" that kept water barely hot used $144/year. My 1500W kettle costs me a penny to boil about 3 cups. My second usage had the yearly cost at $54/year but I attribute this to not using as much water in it as I did in the first time I had used it and I figure that the more in it the more energy is needed to keep the water warm.

I would definitely recommend this airpot. I was looking specifically one that did not use electronics to pump out the water and this one fit the bill.

Tevila info: For those who understand what I am talking about I dunked it on a Wednesday morning only until all surface areas of the airpot were covered before taking it out (i.e. did not wait for bubbles to stop). I left it out and open until Friday when I first used it and it worked fine.

I bought this as a college student tired of having to steal everyone else's hot water. Works great just fill it, plug it in and forget it! It's virtually silent, and it's great for tea when you're writing essays all night long.

We love this pot, and keep hot water available 24 hours--nice to grab that lunchtime soup or late-night cup of camomile tea. It is easy to use (pour in water & plug in) and pour (push down on circle which depresses on top of lid). Great value! This was a surprise appliance in the best possible way--never expeccted to like it so much or use it so constantly on the kitchen counter--good looking too! Jill

This heater is an excellent choice for a small space. Because it has a fan, it would not be suitable for a TV area. And because it's not sold by Amazon, you'll have to pay shipping (but even with that, the heater is a bargain). Compared to an earlier Honeywell unit of the same size that we had, Pelonis does everything right (whereas Honeywell did everything wrong). The controls are on top (handy), the knobs are easy to dial, and the light goes out when you turn off the fan (the Honeywell's light stayed on if the unit was plugged in (huh?). Note: In the picture, the heater appears to be cream colored; it is actually white.

Best Deals on Pelonis NTK15 Safe-T-Furnace Ceramic Heater

I purchased this item from Wal-Mart in Oct of 2008 when it was on sale. I am here at Amazon.com to buy a more expensive model. Not this one. This heater has only one heating ceramic, and heats up a "coil" or "folded" wiring system then the fan blows the heat into the room. This model does not put out the heat that a 4 ceramic heater will put out. This model is more costly to run than the more costly, but more efficient, models. Do not drop this model. Do not put it in an area where it may get knocked over. It is low priced for a reason. Think "seasonal puchase" if you must have it.

If you can, get the more expensive models for hotter heating over a shorter period of time. All in all, Pelonis is still the brand to get. I have/had the original Pelonis Safe-T-Furnace (4 ceramic model) since 1989. Yes 1989. It has survived that long by taking care of it, and keeping it clean. I'm here to purchase a new model to replace it. The bulky wire out of the back of the old furnace finally "cracked" and lost connection to the heating elements. I had it 20 years. Sigh ....

I would suggest the more expensive model for long term use. The model shown here was lent to a neighbor and after a while her dog knocked it over and it stopped putting out heat. The fan works though. Now I need to find a job for the dog so he can pay me back ... Anyone need a yard dug up?

Honest reviews on Pelonis NTK15 Safe-T-Furnace Ceramic Heater

Didn't use it much until recently, too late to return. Has NO tip over switch as advertised and I have cats that occasionally take great joy in tipping things over, purchased this because of the switch. It does kick out the heat, and this one is not too noisy, it rotates fine, but now the cord it getting warm, not the plug into the wall but the cord which makes me nervous to leave it on at all if I'm not right there. Would not buy this one again. At work they have a older 3yr old model and it works great that's why I picked this brand.

Considering this heater is cheaper than ones on the market I'd say its ok. When I first got it one of the fan blades was bent and was hitting something inside to the point that the fan wouldn't rotate. After bending it back the fan functions normally. Heats up my one car uninsulated garage to about 55 deg F on a 30 deg day in an hour.

Puts out up to 4000 watts on a dedicated 20 amp line. Made of metal, with a strong mounting bracket. Fan,heater etal appears well protected within its metal box.

Very quiet and seems power efficient. Thermostat would be more useful if it went down to 35 degrees or 40 degrees, As it is I had to wire it in series with a honeywell 240volt heater thermostat that goes down to 40 degrees so I don't end up heating my crawlspace to a 50 degree temp. I just need a temp over 35 degrees minimum to keep my pipes from freezing.

My crawl space is about 20ftx20ftx4foot high Seasonal ambient crawl space temps without any heating run about 53 degrees summer down to 29 degrees winter

Seems to work extremely well, and I avoid the cost of having to put in a 30 AMP line.

We'll see how long it lasts knock on wood.

I thought it would get warmer but we had a cold winter and it did help in the garage this year. Wish it was just a bit hotter. Installed easy but use the small 20amp 220 volt outlet. I had to wait till it came because the product has two outlets in the instructions.

Honest reviews on Ouellet Heavy Duty Steel Electric Garage/Workshop Heater, Model#

I already had 30A 240V outlets in my workshop so I decided to get this heater to run in conjunction with an electric in-wall heater I already had. On occasion I have used just the ouellette heater and it brings my 336 sq ft shop up to a comfortable temperature quickly. The fan is moderately loud but it is necessary to quickly circulate the cold air in and warm air out. I am using the wall bracket and have it mounted about 6' off the ground. Made in Canada which is a plus for me. Happy with it so far.

I love wall mount heaters in lieu of space heaters in our old home, especially for the safety of our small children. I bought one of these last year for my son's room (10 x 12). It keeps his room toasty warm, even on the coldest mornings. The fan circulates the air very well, unlike many of the other new heaters (that, in my experience, tend to heat very well but only in small areas). I've had a couple of other brands of the wallmount heaters some of which look a lot fancier and and some of which have fancy thermostats, but so far this one is the best by far. I liked it so much, I ordered two more this year to replace some of the "fancy ones" -one for our living room and one for the bathroom. I cannot recommend these highly enough.

P.S. It doesn't hurt that the price this year is half of what I paid for the same unit last year!

My plumber who installed this told me that I would need to set it on about 3 out of 5 to keep the detached garage apartment that I use for an office warm, which is about 450 square feet on a second floor with an unheated garage below. The other night it was 17 degrees and breezy outside and 1.25-1.5 out of 5 kept things comfortable. I have been using two electric heaters and the winter electric bills have been higher for the office than for my house on the same realty that has central heat and air, a washing macnine, an electric dryer, refrigerator, multiple TVs with every family member watching theirs and all sorts of other electrical devices. Further, electric heaters did not keep it warm, just unfrozen. Most winter days my fingers were darn cold on the keyboard. Now I look forward to winter days in the office. Why didn't I install this years ago? Great unit.

I wanted a ventless heater that didn't need power. We have frequent, and sometimes extended, power outages and it GETS COLD when the stupid GAS FURNACE won't operate without power!

So I installed it myself in the basement (there was already a gas connection there from an old gas clothes dryer) in about a hour. No problem. The instructions explain everything, and list what you need to buy extra (a few pieces of "black iron pipe", some gas-safe Mylar tape to wrap the pipe threads, and a flexible gas appliance hookup line. I got everything from the appliance section of the local hardware store in one trip. Installation worked the first try. It lit right up on the first try, too. Wheeee!

Now we turn the darned thing on anytime we're working in the basement (like doing laundry) during the winter. Very easy to use, very reliable (I'm on it's second winter), and IT PUTS OUT A LOT OF HEAT!

I know my gas bill will be cheaper than electricity. It'll pay for itself soon.

This heater is a better quality then the blue flame kinds. If you are shopping make sure you buy the thermostate model and not the hight medium low models. Its worth the extra money so the heater will turn off and on automatically. The non-thermostat models stay on all the time either high, medium, or low flame.

I use this in my home in Ohio and it heats my two story three bedroom home without using my furnace at 14 degrees!!!

I have since installed them in my rental apartments to help my tenants save money on their gas. I am shocked that everybody doenst have these!!! They are so efficient and cost so little money and are a 5 minute installation!

Circulon Infinite Portable Tabletop Induction Cooker
Customer Ratings: 3.5 stars

[UPDATE TO THE REVIEW BELOW after using the cooker about 10 times (10 hours over a 5 month period) it has quit working. The fan runs and the display indicates all is well, but no heat is generated in the pot (and yes, it is an induction-compatible pot).]

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I couldn't find the power rating of this device anywhere on the web. I decided to risk buying it because the device looked well thought-out. The label on the underside rates it at 1500 Watts max. I measured around 1430 Watts (active power) and around 1530 VA (apparent power) using a Kill-A-Watt meter with the burner running at max power. It has 9 power settings down to a 100 W simmer.

In a large-diameter pan it brought 2 qts of water from room temperature to a boil in 10 minutes. Based on the pattern of the boiling activity the device seems to have an active heating area 5-6 inches in diameter, which is consistent with the recommended minimum pot diameter of 5 inches.

The 3-star rating is due to the small diameter of the active heating area. I bought this thing in part to cook down garden produce like tomatoes in broad shallow pans prior to freezing or canning, and it doesn't seem very good for that. I'm used to cooking with gas, and a gas burner spreads the heat across the bottom of the pan (much of it escaping around the sides, unfortunately). The induction burner focuses the heat much more precisely, so if you cook in smaller diameter pans it may suit you well. BTW, it has a fan that is not exactly whisper quiet but wouldn't bother me.

When I received an unpacked the cooker it was pretty much what I expected: Beautiful design, reasonable craftsmanship. The plastic bottom seemed a little bit cheap, the pull-out controls a bit flimsy but from there to the top: very nice, nothing to complain about.

Now, let's put the thing to work. First disappointment: It has no power switch. Yes, it's nice to see the word "circulon" lit up in red but the on/off switch does not turn the unit off completely, you have to pull the plug.

The next surprise came when I put it to use: Oh my, what a noise! Yes, I expected the buzzing sound typical for some induction cookers, but this cooker has a cooling fan that runs constantly and produces a noise level somewhere between a mixer and a modern hair dryer. All the time. No, it's not thermostat-controlled. Imagine using the nice temperature-hold functionality (which could do with a few more levels) holding the proper temperature while preparing a pot roast: You probably will feel like three hours under a hair dryer in a hair saloon.

Bottom line: Beautiful, fascinating, effective and so noisy that I sent it back the next day.

Best Deals on Circulon Infinite Portable Tabletop Induction Cooker

I had this burner for 6 months and just about completely stopped using the burners on my stove, but after 6 months the little thing that pops out in the front broke. (See the picture, this is where the controls are located and the screen tells you what the settings are.) First the screen went blank so you couldn't tell what the settings were and then about 2 weeks later, it quit working all together. Maybe something in the way we were using it caused it to break. I'm buying a different induction burner today with a different design (not one with little pop out controls).

Honest reviews on Circulon Infinite Portable Tabletop Induction Cooker

I've used two other portable induction burners, but this one has some great extra features: A detailed instruction book is the first great help. At 1500w, it has power to boil & fry very quicklya real time-saver. It's wider diameter allows use of 12 and 14 inch skillets in addition to smaller ones. The "Hold" temperature feature was what I selected this model for and does it deliver! I can set a constant temperature to cook, for instance, pancakes or steaks without burning them. No electric griddle needed. The Circulon Infinite 6qt Saute Pan I got to use with it has become my favorite cookpan. The Gift with purchase is an awesome value as well. This is a great induction burner to start with and keep!

I have checked out the unit to find that it works the way it was advertised

5 inch working unit in about 12 inch surface, and heats up the "magnet-sticking" cookwares fast.

I am not sure how many times it is going to work since I only tried it once at a store.

Best price seems to be $99.95 at Crate and Barrel (+shipping around $10~$15)

Too delicately designed for my taste that I did not purchase the item. If there will be a sturdier model with larger surface, I would buy it. Until then, I will do the fast boiling in my Chef's Choice tea kettle, fast braising in my pressure cooker, travel cooking on my travel butain burner, and slow cooking in my Crock-Pot slow cooker.

It's true you get what you pay for, whether it's cars, tv's or air. The Maxxair 4000 delivered maximum blowing capacity for a flooded basement. After returning home following a 2 week absence during subzero conditions, I was greeted with a broken supply line to the ice maker. The water had been leaking for days with over 3" of accumulation in our new log home's basement. We hadn't finished drywalling the basement and water was dripping off the ceiling like a rainforest. I rented 4, 1250 cfm units from the local rental agency until the 2 Maxxairs arrived 2nd day delivery from Amazon. I had the 4 rentals lined up on the wall directly below the broken line and the wall was still dripping wet after after 31 hours of blowing 82 degree air. Within 48 hours of using the Maxxairs the entire basement walls, ceiling,&floors were completely dry with no warping! The cost of 4 rental was just a bit more than the total cost of the 2 Maxxairs. Since the purchase, my neighbors used them for quick drying paint and I've leased them twice through word of mouth for other unlucky homeowners with waterdamage.

This blower really moves plenty of air. It seems well made as the housing is roto-molded polyethylene. It's a bit heavy though due to its large size, but what do you expect for a fan that moves this much air? The cord on it is actually 25 or 30 feet long (description says it's 10 feet long). After searching the net extensively, I came to the conclusion this blower was the best breeze for the buck. No other high output fan came close to the price of this one.

The intake grilles are plastic and the output grille is wire. The squirrel cage inside is stamped steel (as are most). There are 3 speeds and the only downside to this thing is that even at its lowest speed it's sometimes too much air for what I'm doing. I use it to ventilate my shop for welding fumes among other things.

Overall, an excellent buy since it's got Free Super Saver shipping (and I'm in Hawaii to boot!) Cost to ship this thing would be very high otherwise.

Honest reviews on MAXXAIR HVCF4000 4000 CFM High Heavy-duty Carpet and Floor Drying

This unit clearly moves a lot of air. However, the first unit I received had an off center squirrel cage blower and vibrated horribly, particularly at low speed. I had to spend $80 sending it back to the manufacturer who promptly replaced it with another unit under the warranty.

The second unit also has a vibration caused by a visibly off center blower. It was not as bad as the first one, but was not satisfactory. I wound up using a Rigid blower to dry a flooded basement, which is lower capacity, but which ran smoothly on all speeds with no vibration.

I was most disappointed with the MaxxAir PB 4000. Many dollars invested for an initially poor result. Update: The second unit was just replaced under the one year warranty and the manufacturer paid the return freight. The service level of the manufacturer has been outstanding. The manufacturer's customer representative was most helpful as we worked through this. I have now been served well by the manufacturer and am satisfied with the current replacement product.

I bought this item, because it's design and description sounded like a good thing. I received it, set it up, and read the directions. THE VERY VAGUE, and poorly written directions. In the product sales description (one line), it said there is an adjustable thermostat. THERE IS NOT ONE AT ALL! There is an INTERNAL thermostat that sets itself whenever it decides to turn ITSELF on or off. There is NO temperature read out, there is no control for you, the operator to set and tell it to continue on until the room reaches this temp. One of the features that attracted me was that there are two wattage settings...1500W or 900W. I thought, this would be great, when the room gets warm enough, I can lower the wattage setting, and save on electricity costs. AGAIN, YOU CANNOT CONTROL THE WATTAGE SETTING. IT'S ALL INTERNAL...the MACHINE does it when it wants to! I will type the description right out of their manual... "Economic Energy Saving Function (ECO)-When the room temperature reaches a certain point, the ECO green light will switch on, indicating that one-third of the power has been cut-off automatically to save energy." Problem is...IT NEVER STAYS AT FULL WATTAGE...within 5 minutes of giving off heat at a full 1500 watts, it will switch to the lower wattage...NO MATTER WHAT TEMP THE ROOM IS. I have Econo-Heat Flat Panel Wall Heaters in my living room (check them out THEY ARE INCREDIBLE!), and when we have these cold, cold nights, my living room goes down to below 60 at night. I got this space heater to compensate in the mornings to quickly warm up the space. But, with this damn machine automatically deciding on it's own to switch to the lower wattage...it's impossible to warm anything up quickly..or at all for that matter!! NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO TO KEEP IT AT THE FULL WATTAGE....IT DOES NOT WORK!!! Plus, there is no real indicator mark on the dial itself. You never know, is this where the full on setting should be...or is it here? Plus the directions give no indication either...you just never know what to line any of the dials marking to. THEN, HERE'S THE BEST PART!! In their direction packet they have a big STOP sign sheet that says, "Don't take this item back to where you bought it, CALL US...here's our 1-800 number, we'll be glad to help and answer any questions." I called them for four days straight and all I ever got was an answering maching. Finally on the 5th day I left a message. I wanted someone to explain the internal workings of this machine so that I could have some control over the wattage settings. That same day I also sent them an email...to this day I have heard NOTHING...no phone call back, no email...NOTHING!!! How's that for customer support! WAIT.... THERE'S MORE... I figured, well as a last resource I can put this machine down in my basement to help keep it warm so my pipes don't freeze (cold upstate New York winters). Another "feature" of this machine is that there is what's called a "Snowflake" setting, especially for use in basements. You plug it in, put it on the setting (again not really knowing where to really line the little snowflake image up to) and The machine will automatically come on when the room reaches below 41 degrees. Well, I keep a thermometer in my basement...when I placed this heater in my basement the temp on the thermometer was 38 degrees. That means as soon as I plug the thing in, it should turn on, right? HA!!! Fat chance!!! I stood there for 20 minutes, playing with the dial, trying to see what it did, and it did nothing! I went downstairs about 3 times during the course of the night, and though my basement kept getting colder, the heater never came on. URRRGGGGGGHHHH...I HATE THIS MACHINE...DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU WANT TO BE MASTER OF YOUR HEATING DOMAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this heater last year and imediately thought I had made a mistake. But after using it a while, it has become my favorite room heater. I can use it anywhere and not be afraid of fire, it's the only electric heater I will leave on at night. As stated above the back does get hotter than the brochure indicates, but certainly not hot enough to start a fire, so I use it on the provided legs. At night I turn the thermastat down and use this heater in my bedroom, it has really saved me on energy cost. I love it's portability.

I believe many people are not use to the way this heater works, and are not giving it a chance. I came to Amazon today to buy another one, saw some of the low ratings given by buyers, and decided to let Amazon buyers know "THIS IS EXCELLENT PRODUCT".

One thing, It will stink until the new burns off, then it's a really good heater...........My two dogs and cat love it, they live in front of it on cold days.......I don't usually write reviews for Amazon, though I buy lots of things from them, this time I felt I had to defend my choice of heaters.

By the way I have two of those Wal-mart cheapies and they can't touch this one. I recomend this product.....

I purchased 3 of these heaters, one for each bedroom. I was very unhappy with them and returned all for a refund. There were two problems. First, very little heating capacity. The $20 space heaters from Wal-Mart I bought produced much more heat. Secondly, I had purchased these heaters because of the wall-mount feature. I thought that would be cool to have them out of the way. The problem was that the back got extremely hot (couldn't even touch surface without discomfort). I called the company and they said that it was safe, not a fire hazard. However, upon calling two people (one handyman, one person in heating department at Lowe's), they did say it was a fire hazard, that the drywall and wood couldn't get that hot behind it. I was extremely uncomfortable mounting it to the wall because I was afraid I would burn the house down! It just did not appear to be as safe as the company was saying it was. So I returned all three and got a refund on all of them.

Honest reviews on Soleus Air HGW-308 Micathermic Flat-Panel Heater

I bought this in the middle of Oct of 07 in prep for the winter. Before i turned on the furnace for the year i tried using this heater to heat my computer room since that is where most of our time is spent. We were previously using a small (about a 1 ft cube) hot air blowing space heater that sadly does a much better job heating the room than this panel heater. I can have this unit sitting 6 inches behind my chair while at my desk and I'll STILL be cold. I left it on for a week straight thinking it may just need some time to heat the "stuff" in the room. It didn't work that way.

I tried to see if there really was a need for the unit to be on. I didn't know if there was a certain temperature that this would work best at so i turned on the furnace and set it to 61 so it would only kick on when actually necessary. The thermostat is in the computer room and the panel unit was about 4 feet from the thermostat and my furnace still turned on.

I unplugged it and turned on the small space heater. The room warmed up and the furnace didn't turn back on after 2 1/2 hrs.

It's the first week of Nov '07 and it's going back. If it can't handle fall it surely won't man up in winter.

Don't buy this heater.

As another reviewer said, this unit does not operate as advertised. Turn the unit on and within minutes, no matter what the temperature of the room is, the heater will go into it's ECO (Economic Energy Saving Function) mode. So it will never warm my small room quickly, for that matter, it never warms the room to a decent temperature at all. I was very disappointed with this heater and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Day one: Used it for cream of asparagus soup. Hooked it up about thirty minutes before I was ready to have lunch. When I came to get it the soup had burned onto the metal heater coil in the device. It stopped working. I threw it away. Maybe it works ok for fluids but if you're trying to heat a cream based soup or other thick soup in it....beware.

This is the best thing I ever bought for my bed. Start it up about an hour before bed and sleep comes fast. I stay cozy all night and it shuts itself off in 10 hours. Love it. Two of my sisters bought it also.

Doesn't get that warm, not like an electric blanket. Takes a long time to get warm. I would stick with the electric blanket.

Cheap Black & Decker Infrawave Oven

Black & Decker Infrawave Oven

I had a toaster oven that died so I began the typical online research trying to find the best bang for the buck.

I realize that online reviews are always subjective since you cannot ascertain the true ratio of "good to bad" experiences among the entire spectrum of customers, but only among those who are moved to write about it.

However, I noticed in reading reviews that experienced owners looking to replace older infrared-assisted ovens were disappointed to find that fewer and fewer companies offer them any longer to the consumer electronics market. Whereas on the commercial market, such as the restaurant industry, the technology has been used in larger Infrared ovens for many years.

The benefits claimed by the owners in using this technology for toaster ovens prompted me to find one if I could. I felt skeptical when I learned that "Black and Decker" was the original designer/manufacturer of the only surviving product line I found, not being a real B&D fan, myself.

Some of this product line is sold bearing the B&D badge but the same models may instead wear the "Applica" name. "Applica Consumer Products" bought the enire InfraWave line, back in 1998.

Anyway after contacting Applica by email and again by phone, I was convinced of the integrity of the unit and Applica's support. So I bought the FC300 unit for my wife and also the smaller FC150 for my mother, as Christmas gifts. I remain impressed with this oven to say the least.

The FC300 is larger than the FC150. After I saw the differences in size between the two units, I was glad I ordered the larger one for my wife. The smaller one is good for one person or "typical" toaster-oven duties, but if you use it for as many things as we do, the extra size is very nice.

The unit comes with a video CD that lets you watch various dishes being prepared, covering all aspects of use in step-by-step fashion. It has a paper manual as well, but the video is fast, helpful, and thorough.

The unit cooks faster than simple convection alone and offers automatic cooking time conversion. For example, you can input the conventional oven cooking instructions "verbatim" from the side panel of a frozen dinner, (time and temperature). If you select "convert", the InfraWave processor can automatically "shorten it" to cook via infrared as appropriate. Manual adjustment or intervention during a cooking cycle is also maintained as an option and easily done on the fly should you require some variation in order to meet your taste.

Surprises include the oven's abilities to cook foods to perfection that you might normally prefer to cook using another device. Chicken can be tender and juicy inside while browning the skin golden and crispy. Steaks can be broiled with excellent flavor and texture, (yes, I know the BBQ grill reigns supreme but try it on a rainy day and you will be pleasantly surprised).

Pre-heating is a thing of the past. You never do that anymore because this baby jumps right to work on frozen foods without delay. Frozen pizza is a no-brainer and the control panel has its own dedicated "pizza" button as well as individual buttons for other popular foods typically cooked in an oven.

You will be impressed with how this unit can just about replace your conventional oven for any foods that will fit inside it. The energy savings for using this unit as opposed to the full-sized oven are real, but even more valuable to us is the way the food is cooked faster and tastes better even with leftovers, (which won't taste like leftovers).

I believe that you can purchase one of these with confidence. So far it has been a great addition to our cooking apppliance arsenol. We've found it to be MUCH more than just a toaster oven!

I've owned 2 infrawaves: first the small one and the I got the large one with rotisserie. I absolutely love it! I cook everything in it! In fact since I remodeled my kitchen 5yrs ago the regular oven has only been used 4 or 5 times. We toast, reheat, make frozen pizza (the best you can make at home) and broil chicken, fish and meat. I've broiled frozen steaks many times and the results are simply remarkable. For cooking I mainly use "Convert": this feature let's you enter the traditional oven time and temperature as well as the type of food you are cooking, then you press Convert and voila! It gives you your new (and shorter) cooking time. Frozen pizza is cooked from top and bottom at the same time. Toast is ready incredibly fast. Everything you cook will be perfect. Get it while you can, you will never regret it.

We bought this oven a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. It actually toasts much faster than others on the market these days. We used it EVERYDAY. If not for toasting for warming leftovers. We have even had company ask where we got it so they could get one.......

So now 2 years later it is dead. At first the top coils stopped working then it sparked and died.

At this price point 2 years is not a long time! We won't get another one but we did love it!

Excellent product. This is our 2nd purchse of one of these ovens. The first one was smaller. It has lasted 7 years and still going strong, but my husband wanted a larger model (he does all of the cooking). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one of these ovens. We use it every single day.

I bought one of these 2 or 3 years ago when I needed something a little bit bigger than my toaster oven. I absolutely love it. I use it every day and rarely turn on the regular oven. I use it for nachos, hot wings, toast, pretty much everything. I was dubious about baking a cake but it did a great job. It's big enough for an 8 x 8 baking dish to fit comfortably. A 10" pizza fits. A 12" pizza does not.

Tip the Reheat > Pizza Slice setting is perfect for warming up a cookie or brownie. :)
