The propane patio heater I purchased arrived on time no damage. The problem came once it was assembled, the factory welds that hold the tubing and base were welded in such a way that the entire heater leans at an angle. It is still functional but is visibly crooked. I'm gonna add a video if possible to show exactly what I mean. Unfortunately I ordered it for a surprise for my wife, but work was busy and the weather stayed nice longer than expected so I didn't assemble it til a month after it arrived. Due to the wait it left me out of the return period, otherwise I wouldn't even know that it was still functional. Since I'm stuck with it I use it, but it is awful looking! For $200+ dollars it should be well made and stand strait, but it doesn't! We call it the leaning tower of junk!

BEWARE: This item is deceptively identified as being made of Stainless Steel and black powder coating. Powder coating is a type of paint finish not a material. All of the black powder coated surfaces are made of steel and will eventually rust. In fact the only part I can identify by using a magnet as being stainless steel is the top of the tank housing. I'm disappointed and probably will return it since previous FIre Sense heaters that were powder coated have rusted badly.

Best Deals on Fire Sense Commercial Patio Heater, Stainless Steel and Black

What you need to know about stainless steel is that there is magnetic (400) and non-magnetic (300) stainless steel. 400 series stainless steel is not as durable or corrosion (rust) resistant as 300 series. If you want durability in your stainless steel gas grill put a magnet on it. If the magnet sticks, don't buy it.

The quality of this product was very disappointing. The stamped sheet metal frame and base provides no support. I thought I was purchasing a "commercial" grade product, which in fact this was not. The base and shaft are too unstable making it, in my opinion, dangerous. I have spent an amount equal to the purchase price just to modify the product so that it has the stability and weight for outdoor use.

We recently re-did our screened in porch with new conversation furniture, rug & curtains. We needed an outdoor heater and our friends had one for their outdoor kitchen so I started researching products. I really like the fact that the small tank fits inside the casing of the heater. Our friends have the big tank that has to sit next to it on the ground. We put this unit on the coffee table and it heats the 14'x14' porch nicely. The tank is hidden so it looks really good. We are only outside for 3 hours at most so the tank lasts long without having to change it. We bought a six pack of extra tanks and have them ready if needed. I really would recommend this to anyone with a covered area that wants to have a comfortable outdoor setting!!!

This works as a table top heater..... it'll keep you luke warm.

If you have any wind what so ever, it turns into a metal center piece and you'll be cold.

The heater does take those long Coleman 1.2lb tanks for little tailgate BBQ's, so that good.

But other than huddling close to it, you won't get that much out of it. I suggest you spend an extra $50 and get a full size.

Unit functions as advertised. Construction quality is moderate with propane tank access door fitting a good example of less than precision fit.

Whynter Eco-Friendly 12,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner, Frost White (ARC-12SD)

Had a need to cool a 380 sq ft study/workroom at our summer home with day time temperatures between 72F-88F. Central air conditioning available but extremely wasteful in a 2500sq ft house. Refused to consider window given prior bad experience (let's just say it took a long fall). This would be my 2nd Whynter portable in less than 10 years. My first one was an odd looking unit that worked wonderfully for years before we gave it away when we had to relocate to overseas.

The shape and design of this unit was agreeable and generally understated. The only hint of technology was the display LCD band that runs along the top half of the a/c. Standard size for a portable and a hint bulkier given the dual hose design. Although termed portable, it is not something you can carry around the house with one hand.

Installation was uncomplicated and the user manual was adequately helpful in completing the window exhaust setup. Understanding the display indications was initially confusing but a quick flip of the user manual was enough to get me comfortable. Remote control is simple and good to at least 15 feet away.

I powered it up during a warm afternoon. I was duly impressed. Sometimes, powerful is probably not the right word. The unit had sufficient fan speed but the actual coolness of the air from the unit was what made the difference. It was exceptionally cold. I was comfortable in a matter of minutes and had actually feeling cold in less than an hour. It's relatively quiet and I've not been bothered but it whatsoever. Several weeks in and it has been performing to expectations.

Whynter Eco-Friendly 12,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner with Heater, Frost White (ARC-12SDH)

We bought this back in September and took it out again recently for the heater function.

Nicely designed unit that has a clean modern look. The display is a concealed LCD band that is simple and understandable without an overload information and meaningless statistics. Although easy to roll around, be sure to get help when lifting up above a foot. The window kit was good quality and overall setup was considerably easy. Just hookup the hoses to the kit and fit the kit snugly into the window opening.

Cools wonderfully. I use it specifically in the baby's room and occasionally in the study. The dual hose design helps with the energy efficiency and overall cooling or heating out. Both rooms are about 18x18 and this unit has no problem cooling down a 95F room to a comfortable temp in less than 30 mins. I'm surprised that the cooling throughput of this unit is actually 20%-30% faster than another 14000 BTU that I have. Nothing scientific but even my wife notices the significant difference.

The heating option is not for heavy duty heating but it works perfectly as a spot heater when you don't want to crank central heat up too much.

To sum it up, this is a surprisingly efficient unit albeit slightly bulky but gives great bang for the buck.

Cooling: 5 out of 5

Noise: 4 out of 5

Setup: 2 out of 5

Maintenance: 3 out of 5

Cooling: 5 out of 5

This AC unit is used in my office on the 12th floor of an older office building in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. In the case of this older building the HVAC is less than consistent, but the windows do open. Last summer temperatures in my office reached the high 90s on some days. As we are a business formal firm the sauna-like environment in the office was not conducive to wearing a suit and achieving any reasonable productivity. This year, with this AC unit in use for the past three weeks, the office has remained a comfortable 70F with low humidity even on the hottest day we have had yet this year (93F).

Noise: 4 out of 5

The fan and compressor on this AC unit are a bit noisy, but I think that the noise level is to be expected as the unit has excellent air flow and cools & dehumidifies my office (about 200 sq ft) quickly while helping cool the rest of the suite (about 875 sq ft) too. With the AC unit running on high I have been able to speak on the telephone two exceptions only twice have I had to switch the AC unit to a lower fan setting in order to hear the other caller(s) on the telephone. This with the unit about five feet from my desk. I have not had any issues with conducting face to face conversations in my office with the AC unit running on high.

Setup: 2 out of 5

Setup did not go was well as I had hoped. The dual hose system is nice and connects to the AC unit very well. However, the screws provided to connect the hose assemblies to the "window kit" were worthless. The hose assemblies popped out immediately. Also the window kit covers a maximum of 36 inches my office window opening is 42.5 inches. With a little effort I was able to fix these issues. I used #6 stainless steel bolts, nuts and lock washers (all available at Home Depot) to attach the hose assemblies to the window kit that was supplied with the unit. I also attached a Lexan (Plexiglas) "extension" to the window kit (also with #6 stainless steel hardware) that was supplied with the unit. So the window kit works well now and has retained much of the adjustablity with which it was designed. I recommend stainless steel as the hardware will be exposed to the elements and non-stainless steel hardware will likely rust over time. The hoses are also reasonably flexible so I do not have to keep the unit directly in front of the window I use to vent the unit.

Maintenance: 3 out of 5

Although the hose assemblies are designed to detach easily from the window kit (a feature that was unaffected by my use of the stainless steel hardware) the hoses do not come off easily (or, in my experience, at all). This creates a problem if one wants to inspect or clean the hoses (say if there are insects in the hoses, etc.) as the hoses will not detach from the window kit unless the window kit is dismantled. Also there is a condensate tank in this unit (that was not clear in the description when I bought the unit) that is not easy to empty. The drain plug is all the way at the bottom of the unit at the back with less than an inch of clearance to get a pan (or whatever) under the plug in order to drain the condensate. However, today is the first day I tired to empty the condensate (I did this to see how much condensate the unit had collected the condensate warning light was not illuminated) and there was hardly any condensate in the tank after three weeks of use. I see from the description of this model on other websites that the dual hose system allows this AC unit to discharge most of the condensate to the outside via the exhaust hose and from my experience that system works very well. So hopefully draining condensate from the tank will not be an issue in the future.

I am pleased with this AC unit and would recommend the unit to others.

Honest reviews on Whynter 12,000 BTU Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner with Heater

I am reasonably happy with the unit. It was easy to setup and cools one room quite nicely. So the negative comments I have are more like the 5% I do not like. Keeping that in perspective, the items I would like changed are as follows:

The unit is a bit noisy. 54dB vs the Sharp 43dB. The Whynter is always running with the sound increasing when the cooling unit is on. I understand the Sharp turns on and off.

The 6" plastic pipes that connect the unit to the window adapter are very robust. They are a bit tricky to hook up and quite long. I replaced them with ordinary 6" stove pipe 2 adjustable elbows and 8" of straight pipe. This allowed me to get the unit as close to the wall as possible and minimize the resistance of the pipe itself. I haven't seen any evidence of condensation.

The unit front panel is not labelled and the remote is poorly labelled. I had to keep the handbook around to see what the LEDs and remote buttons meant. After a while simple things like changing the fan speed are easy to remember. But anything else requires having the manual handy. This was very poorly done.

This has nothing to do with the unit itself, but it does not cool multiple rooms well at all. I have a bedroom and office across the hall from on another on the second floor. Getting the cool air over to other room requires a number of fans and that does not seem work very well. The temperature differential can be 5 or 8 degrees. Still trying to figure out how to fix that. So buying a portable for multiple rooms requires some additional technology.

This is the first portable air conditioner I have owned so I have nothing really to compare with. So not sure my expectations were realistic. All in all I am as happy with the Whynter as I could expect to be. The only problem I believe I have a right to be annoyed with is the remote and unit display. Cryptic.

The cooling ability is also rather impressive. I put it in my study/guest room which is about 225 or so squarefeet on a a hot evening, I would say 87F. and shortwhile later I was feeling extremely comfortable. It a slightly loud when on highspeed and is a awkward to lift vertically but other than that I am liking it plenty.

You forget how important something as basic as a clothes dryer is...until it stops working. Like many people, I don't keep a pile of cash around to replace major appliances; neither can I afford the cost of repairmen. So I went looking for the new heater assembly locally, and I quickly learned two things: it was ridiculously expensive; and it was on back-order everywhere! I searched Amazon, found it readily available, at a fraction of the cost. Installation was a breeze, and the dryer was back in action in no time! I would recommend this to anyone!!

Our heater coil broke & quit heating. Instead of the buying the coil, I opted to get the whole assembly, instead of having to try to get the new coil spring mounted in there. I'd do it again. I'm no appliance repairman, so I take the easier way out. Even if it costs a few $. And it's been working fine for a couple of months now.

I received this machine and it was very easy to assemble. It made great movie style popcorn, provided you have the right ingredients. Now here's something even the EXPERTS, miss. It's not just the kettle size but the size of the CONTAINER. This machine cranks out great popcorn, but I only was able to fill it with approximately 64 cups of popped popcorn (bin size restriction). Hence, you should buy the "right" kettle size with a BIGGER container if you are targeting large crowds. Therefore, I purchased a 14 oz machine with a bigger bin and will keep my Great Northern as a secondary backup (I'm a vendor). Once again, for $300.00 dollars and for small to medium size crowds, BEST VALUE & PRICE!

This is a great popcorn machine! The 12 oz. kettle puts out a good sized batch of popcorn. It's durable, well constructed and was easy to assemble. Just slide the doors on the pin hinges and plug in the kettle. It's getting a great workout and in great shape.

This machine is horrible. After using it for 24 days, the kettle broke. No more popcorn! I contacted Great Northern and they only offer a 30 day warranty. Wanted us to pay $40 for the kettle replacement, plus shipping and handling both ways. Their customer service was horrible as well, like the product they make.

Spend the extra money and buy a nicer machine made from another company. Good thing Amazon did the right thing and offered a refund on it. Way to go Amazon!

We purchased this heater from Home Depot. There are several sold under different names all in all the same unit.

We wanted to use this to preheat our family room and kitchen before the main heat kicked in when waking.

Follow the setup instructions to the letter using K-1 Kerosene there is barely a hint of Kerosene smell of any sort in the home.

We use it to pre-heat the areas above and just recently found the Klean Heat a orderless alternative to the K-1 Kerosene in four weeks of use I have not one complaint on the unit.

Home Depot carries the K-1 Kerosene at $36.00 for five gallons the Klean Heat is a bit expensive at $10.95 a gallon but last much longer than K-1 Kerosene and is completely orderless.

This unit is a winner in my book. Directions are easy to follow and definitely saves on our electricity bill. We are all electric it cost around $3.50 an hour for the electric heat strips in the fan coil on a call for heat and average around $4.50 for two days operation of the unit being used 2 hours in the morning and now 3-4 hours in the evening.

Wick maintenance is a cinch it is covered in the manual and searching on the model will take you to the distributor website it has photos and detailed instructions on wick changing.

Remember to use ONLY K-1 Kerosene in the heater for clean burns and Klean Heat for a complete orderless heat source.

Ventilate the home per the instructions while in use.

Always take the unit outside to light and extinguish due to the odor of unburned Kerosene being emitted from the unit on shutdown as well as initial 5 minute warm up when ignited.

I wanted to use my garage as a woodworking shop. Dimensions are 12'W x 19'L x 9.5' H. It is lightly insulated and the door is leaky. I live in Northern VT. It was 8 degrees F outside Saturday and 15 degrees F in the garage. I have some cast iron in the garage such as the table saw and the chop saw. There are also some very large cupboards. These things really hold the cold.

I purchased this unit at Home Depot and 5 gallons of the HD 1-K. I fired the heater up in the garage. The garage temp went up about 1 degree F, each minute, for the first fifteen minutes. After the first half hour, it was up to 40. After the first hour 50. After 90 minutes it was up to 55. After two hours it was at 60. I found myself coughing a bit at this point. I opened the window about an inch. The room held about 62 degrees as I was working in shirtsleeves with the window open. This was a 58 degree variance between indoors and outdoors. I believe it would have gone higher but I completed my work and shut it down. It used about an 1/4 tank. Which is about a 2 quarts of fuel. The HD fuel works out to about $7.50 a gallon. So, I guess I used about $3.75 for 3 hours of heat. At $1.25/hr, I think that is about as economical an option you can hope for.

I had lit the unit in the garage. In retrospect, I would light it outside and let it burn for five minutes or so now before bringing it back inside. Those fumes might have caused my cough. It operates a bit like a diesel engine. It has to warm up before it becomes efficient.

I should mention that prior to buying this, I bought a propane unit at Lowes that boasted all over the box of being designed for indoor use. A Sales Associate there said he was going to get one himself. He responded to my propane/kerosene inquiry by stating that his frugal contractor friend swore by propane.

This particular propane unit was pricey, but my concern was safety, convenience, clean air, and heating capability. I also bought an extension hose, and a gas grill tank and propane. I was a couple of c-notes into it. I brought it all home and started hooking it up. Well, the directions and warnings all started to get to me. "Indoors", in propane speak, seems in this instance to quite literally mean inside a tent. And the directions explicitly state to not bring the big propane tank indoors. And it said not to leave the pricey little tanks hooked up and stored within the unit when kept indoors. I said "the heck with this" and returned it all. Kerosene may (or may not) give off an odor, but at worst, it is just flammable. It isn't an explosion hazard.

In that regard, I didn't think the kerosene gave off much of an odor. However, my wife happened to come out into the garage and said, "oh, it smells a bit, huh?". After I opened the window, I think it was totally unnoticeable. Opening a window an inch is recommended in the instructions, btw.

I am very happy with the purchase and thrilled to be able to use the garage in the winter. I think propane with a blower is probably the only way for a contractor to go. But in an enclosed, windless space, the gentle heat of kerosene is quite nice and economical.

Hope this helps.

During the last snowstorm (am losing track of them these days) local power on this farm was out for almost 2 days. However, I was able to stay at least one night in this dark, cold house because of this great heater, which I put in the open doorway between 2 bedrooms. I ran it all night long, and into the next morning, and both bedrooms actually got 'too hot', until it finally ran out of fuel (Klean-Heat fuel). Had to vacate for a local hotel at that point. I'm not sure what Martha Stewart would say, but I even carefully made cocoa on this heater by sitting my mug on the top of the grill until the milk was scalding. Have oil heat as primary heat source, supplemented by electric space heaters, but this DuraHeat heater is my 'go to' heater to heat up any space where the other heat sources are failing to do their job. Needless to say, when there was no electricity, I was sincerely glad I had bought my DuraHeat. I can't tell you anything technical about it other than it is easy for a girl to figure out how to operate it. You won't be sorry you bought it.

Honest reviews on Dura Heat DH2304 Convection Kerosene Heater, Portable, Indoor

I was not in a pinch when I bought this unit. It was right after Sandy, but I happened to have electricity, gas, etc. While the electric was out it dawned on me that should another storm (or incident) like Sandy occur again, I would seriously need an alternative heating source. I purchased this unit at Home Depot and have not been disappointed at all. Home Depot was out of K1 Kerosene, so I dropped by my local Walmart and they had the 5 Gallon jugs in stock. This unit was super easy to put together (less than 5 minutes) and I was up and running (testing it) in about an hour afterwards (the manual states to wait for a full hour after first fill to let the wick have adequate time to soak).

This unit heated my entire living area so efficiately that I now use it everyday to 'pre-heat' my house. I keep the central heating at 65 degrees and with lighting this heater up twice a day (morning and evening) the place stays at about 70-72 degrees. Cheap, fast and no smell. There was more of a smell when opening the 5 gallon jugs than during actual burn. Kicking myself for not saving money on gas and electricity (for the heater blower) sooner.

Great heater. Must be prepared to do work in using it from cleaning to putting in kerosene to--requires maintenance and careful watching. However, it puts out great heat. Just follow the instructions as it lends itself to open spaces or large rooms. Have to be careful when using this heater. Again, follow instructions.

This is a great little heater. I got it for my daughter's room a little over a month ago because Consumer Reports rated it highly. For $25 bucks, it does all I ask. What I like is that you can set it you heat 360 degrees or only push the heat to the front. I set it to the latter, because it's so compact a good place for it is on top of a dresser.

Only thing I wish it had was a digital thermostatic control, but after a couple days of fiddling, you get just the right temperature and can leave it there, tweaking it if necessary.

Worked well the first year. Second year it overheated to the point that the plastic was soft and the knobs would burn you if you touched them. It annoys me that so much junk gets sold today. I would much rather have paid a higher price for a heater that was reliable year after year.

I bought this heater last year and used it all winter very happily. It worked very well and kept my computer room comfy and warm.

This year i brought it out to use, plugged it in for day use and on the second day it started turning off on me after about 3 min of use. I unplugged it and let it cool off since it got amazingly hot after that 3 min and i discovered the black, round casing with the holes in it that goes around the top, had melted itself open in the back.

I loved this heater last year but can only give it 2 stars due to longevity.

Granted, I've had the heater for a couple of years now... But for this price, the thing should last for years, walk the dogs, and babysit my kids if it's not actually going to heat my home office (10'x12'). Implication being that it doesn't heat my office. Exactly. The heater never worked well, and now it doesn't work at all. It turns on. And it blows warm air ineffectively for anywhere from 2.5 seconds to a minute, then it shuts itself off and doesn't come back on until you've completely forgotten about its existence and your hands are small blocks of ice. It absolutely will not stay on but even when it was new and stayed on a little longer, it was pathetic. Complete junk. No idea where the receipt is. May roof test it because the entertainment I'd get for that would be worth well more than the little puffs of warm air it erratically produces.

I remodeled my bathroom about 2 years ago and did not have enough money in the budget for a wall mounted towel warmer rack. I got some extra money for Christmas this year and decided to start looking at towel warmers. As I was reading reviews I saw that a lot of people that had spent $100 to $300 on the wall-mounted towel warmer racks were disappointed in them because they only warm the part of the towel that sits on the bar. Then I happened across reviews for towel warmers like this one and they were very positive. This website had a great price compared to others I looked at so I decided to buy this one even though I couldn't find very many reviews for this model (in fact, only 1!)

I can truly say that for the money I am amazed. This unit is SO light weight I could definitely see traveling with it very easily. Its also big enough to hold my two large bath towels or 1 large towel and my pajamas, but it stores easily out of the way in my bathroom and the cord is long enough to move it around where ever I want it in my bathroom. It also gets my towels really hot. One suggestion do not put the towels in it folded up or they will not get heated evenly. Unfold the towel and just drop it down in there. The longer you leave the towels in the hotter they get and the more evenly heated they are. I also like the auto shut off at 50 minutes in case I forget to turn it off.

Overall this is a great product and I am very happy with no complaints.

I was very impressed with this appliance. With two large towels rolled up it heated them thoroughly in the time it took to take a shower. Highly recommend for everyone in the family

I had high expectations of this product, based on some of the other reviews. My experience with it so far has been far less satisfying. The unit takes about 20-minutes to warm up. Who has time to take a 20-minute shower? I did connect it to a timer to overcome the heating time but still found the towels to be luke warm. If you try two thick towels, it only warms the outside. I've tried three different types of towels with the same result. Inserting a single towel, crumpled in the base works best, works best but still not great. I really expected warm towels--not towels with warm edges.

Honest reviews on Conair Therma Luxe PTW1 Towel Warmer

This item has turned out to be quite handy. The interior is quite large enough to hold either two standard towels or one bath sheet, plus underclothes, socks and a robe. Do not be mislead by those products that say they can hold "20 towels," as they are referring to small hand towels as might be used in a beauty shop. Here are some alternative ways to use this item:

1) PRE-BEDTIME: If you have just exercised and plan to go to bed after bathing, put the following items inside in the following order: robe on the bottom, then pajamas, under garments, socks, and towel on top. You will find the towel quickly loses heat in the open air as you are drying off (don't forget to close the lid to keep the other items warm while you towel off); the other items stay warm much longer than your towel. After turning the unit on to heat up, do your post-exercise stretches, brush your teeth, then shower or tub. The unit will have had plenty of time to warm your garments, and you will emerge clean, and warming your muscles after exercise. This "warm-down" routine is highly motivating to do the exercise, but it obviously also works if you are too tired to work out and just want to sink into bed warm and relaxed.

2) IF YOU PLAN TO GO OUT IN CASUAL CLOTHES AFTER BATHING: Put your slacks, shirt or sweatshirt, undergarments, socks, and towel in the unit and turn it on. Do whatever other pre-bath/shower preparations you wish (floss, brush your teeth), then shower or tub. Your clothes will be wonderfully warm once you've dried off, especially if you are going out in cold weather.

3) GIVE YOUR LITTLE ONES A TREAT: Put your toddler's robe, slippers (with soles on a paper towel), socks, and a favorite small stuffed toy on the bottom of the unit, then their pajamas and underwear topped by the towel (loading the unit can be done anytime during the day) and turn on the heat about 15 minutes before bathing them. Tub your little ones and let them know that a special treat is coming with toasty warm bedclothes to wear and a warm toy to hug while you read them a bedtime story. This routine may just make bath time less of a chore because of anticipating the warm towel, bedclothes, toy and story that follow. Just for safety sake, keep this unit out of the reach of children and unplug after use. I don't know that I'd try warming a baby's clothes because of their very tender skin.

4) I don't know how practical this idea is, but if you have time, warm the unit and your cold weather gear before going out in the cold: heat mittens/gloves, caps, neck scarves, socks and anything else that will keep you or your children warm during the winter. Remember that any metal objects (buttons, studs) on clothing can become very warm, so check those out the first time you try this. Fabric buttons should be OK. I understand that these units can be PUT ON AN AUTOMATIC TIMER, so you can set everything up the night before, and everything will be warming during breakfast, tooth brushing, hair and make-up.

I have my unit set to one side of a vanity plugged into a GFI outlet; it does not impinge on the sink at all. My bathroom is configured so that the shower is directly across from the sink, so I step out onto a bathmat and can reach over to the unit to get the towel and other items once I'm dry. This unit is stable and, of course, portable; e.g., if you just want to warm up your robe and pajamas--even a small pillow like a neck roll--in the bedroom (especially if you're under the weather) or watching TV anywhere. If you want to heat lightweight slippers, put a paper towel under the soles to keep the unit clean. The unit will fit on a night stand or end table and turns itself off automatically. Don't leave this unit where a child might knock it over or play with it.

My wife wanted a towel warmer, so with Mother's Day coming up, I started out researching free-standing and wall-mounted towel warmer racks/bars. Immpression of the racks found online was of spotty function or poor quality at unreasonable prices. Goal was a decent quality and reasonably-priced towel warmer, and found this unit. Seems great so far. Concept of dropping the towel (we don't roll it up, just drop it in) into an enclosed space to warm the entire towel makes more sense than a rack, and the unit takes up little space. Has one 20-minute heating cycle, which other reviewers suggested (and the instructions hint at) starting over for best warming. We've done both and either way seems acceptable to my wife. Styling is a little plain, sort of like a Rubbermaid container with a heating element, but then this is a basic-priced unit. Overall, my wife is pleased with it, which is what matters to me. Amazon purchase process and shipping was no problem; product arrived well packaged (Conair 'factory' box inside two other boxes -smart packaging) and on-time. Thanks, Amazon. Doug, Ashland, Oregon.

I'm a resident of Washington State. We're notorious for two things: it rains a lot and people live in denial that it ever gets hot here. While not it may not reach the soaring highs of the mid-west that I left 18 years ago, it certainly heats up. And when you're acclimated to mid-60s for most of the year, the mid-80s and mid-90s of summer can feel as devastatingly uncomfortable as those 109 degree Kansas City summers. Even so, the houses in Washington state are built for precipitation, not warmth. They're well insulated against rain and snow, and terrible for ventilation and air-conditioning as a result.

In an effort to cool my obscenely-well-insulated house down on even the more temperate of warm spring and summer days, I've installed a solar attic fan and a whole-house fan. Both help a lot in the right situation (the solar attic fan helps keep the attic cool, which means lower overall temperatures, and the whole-house fan can bleed the heat from the house in a few minutes flat -once the ambient outside temperature has dropped low enough), but when you suffer from seasonal allergies, sometimes the right situation is two weeks away when the pollen count drops. Not much help!

Because of my casement-style windows, I've been relegated to using free-standing A/C systems to augment the attic fan and the house fan for the past few years. But free-standing A/C units are almost worthless. First, their power is insufficient. 12,000 BTUs aren't enough to control a large airspace like my vaulted, open-floorplan kitchen+dining+living room combo (a very, very common layout in Washington. This state loves its split-levels, and that's almost always what you encounter at the top of everyone's stairs here). Second, the dryer-hose they use to convey the heat outside (through a cracked window) inevitably heats up, warming the air around the A/C unit, defeating a large part of its purpose. Third, the heat from outside almost always creeps in, as casement windows are hard to seal well, especially when you have a big, heavy dryer hose hanging from the cheap plastic window shim. Lastly, even the models that claim to evaporate the extracted moisture from the air don't really, and you wind up emptying a water reservoir several times a month (if not several times a week on the warmer days). If your A/C unit is big enough, you must lean it out of a doorway and let it drain, allowing the warm air from the outside to easily defeat a portion of the cooling you just paid for in precious electricity. Crazy? Yes.

This season we decided to purchase a big, powerful air-conditioner that could be installed in-wall. We settled on this Frigidaire. I called up my electrician to install a dedicated 20A circuit with a 230v outlet to feed this beast and got his recommendation for a contractor to come cut a hole in my wall at the same time. We scheduled a date for a few weeks out. The A/C arrived within a week, and within 2 weeks we had 25,000 BTUs of real, honest-to-God air conditioning in the house. After the first day I left my lady at home and went to work, I asked her how she was doing. She said, "it got cold, so i had to turn the temperature up!" That's a good sign. Usually she doesn't say things like that until 4am when the old, freestanding A/C had been running *constantly* for 24 hours and had finally had a chance to catch up well after the sun had gone down.

This thing has several useful modes. Our favorite by far is combining the 'energy saver' and 'remote sensing' modes. Energy saver tells the unit to move some air every 10 minutes or so to see if more cooling is required (because the ambient has risen above the set point). If so, it engages the condenser and injects some powerfully cold air into the room for a few minutes, then goes back to sleep. Remote sensing is enabled from the remote control, which has its own thermistor and temperature display built in. At the touch of a button, it starts sending its temperature readings to the air conditioner at regular (~30m) intervals. The air conditioner defers to these readings and attempts to make the room cold enough to bring the temperature near the remote down to the desired one. The remote runs on a couple of AA batteries, so keeping it fed shouldn't be a problem with all the rechargeable batteries we have laying around. (The included batteries are still going strong several days later, though). It also has

On the more critical side of things, the unit is quite loud when cooling at full blast. This was initially bothersome, as the unit occupies a space in our living room wall, but once we realized that 'energy saver' causes it to run for just a few seconds every 10 minutes, it became far less of an issue for us.

In conclusion, I am in awe of just how powerful this thing is, and how well it cools. Standing close to its air vents when the condenser is on is a bit like sticking your head in the ice box... which is as it should be. The remote temperature sensing feature is awesome. I only wish the remote was RF instead of IR, but that can be overcome with an IR repeater or two. The real test will come in a few weeks, as summer rolls in and the "real" heat arrives. So far, I'm confident this unit (rated for a ~1600sqft. "room") will more than adequately keep the upstairs of our 1800sqft. house comfy, and all without me having to keep a window open perpetually or drain the tank every other day. Hallelujah! ;)

Oh man!!! We are in central tx with MANY 100+ degree days, we needed relief without breaking the bank. This big ol' Frigidaire FRA256SV2 Energy Star heavy-duty beauty filled the bill perfectly!! We live in 1920's house with little insulation, original windows, all that plus ooold pets, but the a/c cooled us off majorly. And it cooled entire house on low fan, energy save mode set at 70, we have 6 rooms, and it cost the same as using small unit in 1 room!!! We don't use the remote, don't need to, we turned it on, set it on temp & mode we wanted & waited for utility bill. We were so surprised, so happy over bill that we left all settings where they were, only turned it off when the weather turned cool. The filter is so easy to clean. We would buy this big baby again & we have recommended it to others.

This AC unit was ordered 5-31 and arrived 6-4 installed on 6-4 really didn't fit window properly so I used Duct tape around it in a very thick fashion. I live in a 1970 Mobile home 12x70 badly insulated but this thing cools the entire place even though its installed in a hallway. I am completely satisfied. This is same price as walmart for same model except i got it faster and got a set of 3D glasses for less than the tax would have been from walmart on just the Air Conditioner. Awesome Service. Awesome speed and Awesome unit. Thank you Amazon.

This is an EXCELLENT air conditioner. It keeps my entire house cool and sucks the humidity right out of the air. It was easy to install and so far has been virtually maintenance-free. It even tells you when it is time to clean the filter.

Rinnai EX11 Direct Vent Furnace Natural Gas Review

Found out about Rinnai from my brother in law, a home restoration expert fromVermont. My experience in the past has been if he recommends. I look no further.

Once again that proved true.

This heater is a marvel of engineering. Every single aspect of it was well thought out.

Super easy to install. Cut a 3 1/8" hole through the exterior wall, assemble the flue ( a remarkable piece of engineering), plumb and hook jp the gas and turn it on. That's it!

The design is such that even touching the metal after it's been operating for hours does not result in a burn

This is the second Rinnai that I have bought. We purchased this from an authorized installer. As the other review stated, the thermostat on this does not work. Further, the unit does not shut off and on properly. Moreover, it is very noisy when it comes on and off, and there is a pinging noise quite often. We have asked the installer to come back a few times who apparently has 'fixed' the item but this did not occur. We are now in winter again and we have had this just a little over a year and we are experiencing the same problems. The problem is, we are now outside the 'year' warranty and it has only been used a few short times. What a waste of $1600 with installation and purchasing the product. Rinnai is a shame and a rip off. Think long and hard before buying their products.

In order to replace a couple of outdated direct vent propane heaters, my husband bought a Rinnai ES22 for our living room and an ES11 for our bedroom. Both units have a loud fan/blower which goes on and off during use. I don't like it, but I can adjust to the noise in the living room. In the bedroom, I find the noise level unacceptable for relaxing and sleeping (and I am not a light sleeper). Making matters worse my ES11 has a pinging sound which accompanies the blower going on and off. My husband bought the units through an authorized dealer and installer in the Los Angeles area who he found on the official Rinnai website. After purchase and the units had been installed, I looked at the invoice. This individual charged us approximately 40% more for the units than they were being offered for on unauthorized Rinnai websites. This individual also charged us for "misc. parts and sealants" although there were no such items furnished (the units come with everything you need). I should also add that the authorized dealer failed to tell us when he first came to review our heating needs and give us an estimate that our existing vent holes would not match the Rinnai units. Had we known this we could have considered our options and possibly budgeted to have new vent holes cut. (I just got a $400 estimate to have one vent hole lowered seven inches.) Instead when the authorized dealer was installing the units he just took some cement pavers from our yard and jacked the units up to the height of the existing holes and left the pavers in place under the units. This looks especially lovely on the bedroom carpeting. I should also add that I had to leave before he was finished with the installation. When we came home that evening our bedroom was easily approaching 100 degrees and the unit was going full throttle. The authorized dealer had only tested to make certain the unit went on before leaving. Apparently he didn't test to make sure it would also go off. Long story short, the unit had a broken thermostat and the entire unit had to be replaced. So if you do buy one of these units, plan to be home for several hours after installation to test the unit.

Shopping Cart Cup Holder Review

Shopping Cart Cup Holder

I am a store vendor. When I go in to service my accounts, I always use a shopping cart. Many times I am in these accounts for hours. Water bottles and closed top beverages are easy enough to just place in the cart with out spilling, but me...I like my large coffee. That top doesn't close. I have been looking for a cup holder that you dont have to screw on (like one for a stroller). I found this one. It is a simple design...but it works for me and I LOVE IT!! It wont hold thinner items like a water bottle or a soda can...so if you are looking for something like that, this will not work.

I've only used it with Starbucks 'tall' and 'short' size cups and there are no issues. Large cups aren't a problem, so the fact that it fits a Starbucks 'short' is good. If you have a smaller cup, it may not. Has fit all wire-type shopping carts I've used very well & stable. Nice and small to keep in car / pocket.

I ended up wraping the bare metal circle with yard to prevent it from scratching my mugs. otherwise it worked but I had to also stretch out the circle to fit my mug which made it difficult to hang on the cart. It will not hold a soda can or anything that is not tapered.

Replaced an old wood burning fireplace in a 12x15 living room with this. I'm not one for tacky or gaudy; this is neither. Unbelievably realistic, attractive, and great source of heat. Couldn't be used to heat the house, but def takes the chill out of the room. Would recommend to anyone!

The imagery is real good and makes for a good fireplace insert. The problem comes from is when it's time to change the light bulbs. It requires some dis-assembly which should be no big deal but it is. After you dissemble the parts to get to the bulbs, it is still tight to get your hands in to unscrew the bottom bulbs. One was so tight

It blew up in my hands. leaving the screw part in the socket. Could not get it out. Tried to disassemble the box further to get at it better to no avail. Frustrated I bought a new one, to replace it. There was no guarantee, if I was able to get to it better that I would be able to get it out without breaking the plastic socket. I found it on sale on Amazon. So I bought the replacement. I have all the parts of the old one, I have another unused fireplace downstairs, when I get my basement ready I will reassemble it for looks...

Assembling the unit on top of a bean bag proved most simple. If you are using a powered screwdriver, be sure to set the torque to it's lowest setting. I let the unit sit upright and flat for close to an hour before I powered it on.

The Foam Tape is most sticky, be sure to have it exactly where you want it in the window trough.

My windows were custom cut, so I was just barely able to fit this unit in, and only needed about half of the screws I was supplied with. Used 2 screws to mount the windows spacers, 1 screw right in the center of the unit to the window, and 1 more screw right above the opening window frame to keep it closed on the unit.

The plastic air directional fins were not seated in their pivots, so I used a pair of pliers and pulled them gently into the holders, making them work nice and smooth.

Foam spacer fills the window gap in nicely, not even noticeable. For the remaining gaps I used AlumiTape.

I can run the unit on high setting for a couple of hours and notice about a 5 degree F. drop in temp right around the unit, but the tin nature of my home continues to raise the ambient temp. I tried turning my furnace fan on only while running the A/C and noticed the entire house starts to cool down more rapidly. Figured out the Furnace had a second circuit and placed a 12 volt toggle switch next to the Honeywell and use it as an A/C boost now. This old home in Alaska can go 95 degree Fahrenheit, but this 6000 BTU unit can bring it back to 80 given a couple hours of running.

The timer on/off feature is real handy in saving power and preparing the room for my arrival. Works in increments of 1 hour delay on or off.

The first month of operation and didn't even notice a twitch in my power bill. Overall while it's running the compressor, it's not as loud as I thought it could end up being. Does tend to vibrate the plastic parts abit while it's cooling.

Won't be long and I'll be removing the unit to store under a bed, think I'll place a 2x4 under the bottom window rail and the unit should sit flat for me. Just want to protect the fins on the back as long as possible.

Bought this unit new and opened straight out of the box; the unit did not work. All it did was blow hot air; the compressor never engaged no matter what I did. I sent this thing back right away. Dont waste your money.

We were really excited when this unit showed up and we installed it in the window right away. We don't know if it's a defective unit or what, but all it does is blow warm air. A good window fan would work better. I called RCA tech support and they are in India. They asked if I'm trying to cool or warm the room! I had just told them it's 90 degrees in the bedroom. Yeah, I'm really trying to warm the room. Then all they told me was that it was maybe a defective unit. Ya think? So I chatted with Amazon customer support and they would have sent me a replacement unit, but it was going to be out of stock until September. Fat lot of good that does me. So I'm returning this unit and ordering a different brand's 6,000 BTU unit that I hope actually works. In the meantime all this unit has done for me is make me suffer in the heat a week longer than necessary. Thanks RCA. Thank you so very much for creating such a "wonderful" product. :(
