Muskoka Electric Stove, Large Reviews

Muskoka Electric Stove, Large

I've had this unit all of three hours and so far I'm very satisfied. Shipping was fast ... it arrived intact and completely assembled. It's heavier than other similar units which to me indicates that it's of more substantial materials. The styling is handsome and nicely put together. The heater has only two settings but I think they will work fine ... the low setting when I run it in fall or spring ... high when we get into December and January. The fan runs quietly and my kids had to look at it several times to convince themselves they were not looking at real flames. The glowing embers are very realistic. I just like the way it looks ... it's a litte more expensive than some models but so far, it seems to be well worth it.

I love my little electric stove. It warms up my bedroom quickly and is very realistic to watch. I hate the idea of having to warm a whole house up with just me, so this is a wonderful alternative.

Honest reviews on Muskoka Electric Stove, Large

Cannot say enough good things about this "stove", and I was a skeptic!

In case others are going through the same thought processes, a little background first: I've had my eye on gel-can "fireplaces" for some years now while watching the prices drop. They've not dropped enough, though--at least not on the more realistic-looking models. Since we had an oil-filled, rolling radiator in our budget for October (already have one and love it), before we pulled the trigger on that I thought perhaps we should combine the supplemental heat with a bit of ambience. So I amped up the research on faux fireplaces. Concerned about the recurring cost for canned fuel in gel versions, not to mention the smell it can give off (I've witnessed it, and yuck), I put some time into researching electric versions. It's been many years since I saw any in person, and they've come a LONG way! We decided gel was out, electric was in. Also, "fireplace" was out, "stove" was in; we wanted something mobile, and fireplaces obviously need to be up against a wall to look remotely authentic, plus vents and power buttons are hidden in some stoves. But since they're little more than space heaters with fancy tops, the questions were 1) will the stove heat as well as a radiator?, 2) will it look decent as furniture goes?, and 3) how realistic is the "fire"?

I spent hours looking at the leading manufacturers' offerings before I ever saw this product on Amazon. The heating claims are basically the same for this size stove, no matter the manufacturer, so it came down to aesthetics. There are videos aplenty online, and it's worth seeking them out. I was unimpressed with the look and behavior of the "embers/flames" I was seeing until I happened upon Muskoka's company promo video. The designer said he felt they had the most realistic-looking ember/flame design of any out there and, though I was still skeptical when I ordered it, now that I have it in front of me I can whole-heartedly agree. That aspect, along with the size and design of this stove in particular, makes it stand out among similar electric stoves.

Form: The box is metal (top, sides and back), as is the screen on the doors. Everything else is molded plastic. We're fine with that because it's done well, and it keeps the unit from being too heavy. The design touches on this unit really set it apart, and the doors and screen make the most difference. Not only are the power buttons hidden, so is the glass front--the glare from which, on doorless models, screams "faux!" on first sight. You can't see the heater at the bottom unless you're 12+ feet away or sitting on the floor; it's tucked under and centered. The power cord is 6 feet long, and though the manufacturer does advise against it, they nonetheless approve the use of a short, three-prong, heavy-duty extension cord. And the flame effect? Pretty astonishing. We had a friend walk in last night who thought it was the real deal. (I'm putting up an image but maybe we'll shoot a video as well.)

Function: The low (half) and high (full) settings on the heater work appropriately, there's not a lot to say there. It's forced/fan heat, so the effect is instantaneous as a floor and foot warmer, as compared to radiator-type heaters. Whether or not it will make a big difference in our living room space overall remains to be seen. (If it fails I'll add an update in deep winter.) But we have wood floors that get ice cold in the winter, so I imagine some hot air moving across them will be helpful. You can use the flame effect without heat if you're just looking for ambience.

Price: I'd say this unit is appropriately priced. There are far more expensive models out there which just don't look authentic. And yes, there are cheaper models, but those also look cheaper.

Packaging: It was packaged just fine in a sturdy box, with styrofoam on the top and bottom, and with plenty of air/space inside the box to prevent dings and dents. The unit arrives intact with no assembly needed.

Bottom Line: 100% happy with our purchase. And I swore I'd never go faux! Of course you can't beat the ambience of a real fire, but we all know the smoke's no good for us. This unit is a nice alternative. We're ordering one for a relative when it comes back in stock. (It's offered elsewhere on Amazon and beyond, at various prices from various sellers. Just be sure to get the one with the screen.) Since this stove is new to us, if it malfunctions I'll add an update.

Now all we need, save a temperature drop, is a pop-and-crackle soundtrack (we're working on it)--and some good "fireside" wax melts! Happy fall and winter to all.

--Update:

Just hours after submitting this glowing review the "fire" mechanism unfortunately failed on our unit! After running for 20 minutes it went dark for no reason. (The heater was fine.) We opened the back of the cabinet and checked both bulbs, and neither was burned out. When we closed the cabinet one light inexplicably came back on, then a few minutes later went dark again. Amazon was great and quick: within two days they picked up the defective unit and sent us a replacement--just in time for a huge temperature drop. I'm happy to report that the second unit is fine (so far)... no black-outs after testing for ten hours over two days. And on the high setting, the heater definitely warmed the room enough that we had to shut it off. I'd give it five stars if we weren't a little nervous about how long this will last.

I ordered this for my house in Maine and had it delivered to the man who watches over the place when I am not there. He put it together, and said it was not hard to do. The rack itself is nice looking and sturdy. The cover is not as depicted on the Amazon site, where it appears to be a neatly fitting grey thing. Instead, what I have is a rather loose, oversized black plastic cover that adds very little to the appearance of my deck. In fact, it looks pretty sloppy. It has a few velcro fasteners and covers the logs loosely, but I don't at all like the way it looks and wish I had found a rack with a fitted, perhaps zippered, cover. If I took the cover off it would look pretty nice, but the whole point was to be able to keep logs outside and protected from the rain and snow. I feel the product information was misleading, since the inset picture shows a cover that in no way resembles what I got.

I purchased this product for outdoor storage of logs for firewood, and am pleased with the purchase. The product is easy to assemble, which is good as the instructions are lacking, and is very sturdy upon completion. The cover for the unit allows for oversized logs, keeps the logs dry, and is easy to open and close.

Pros: Easy assembly, light weight and yet sturdy construction, matches product description.

Cons: Very limited documentation

Overall, very happy with the product so far.

Looked around for a rack for my back porch and came across this on Amazon.Bought it with free shipping, came in a few days and was very easy and fast to put together. Loaded it to the top with firewood it is solid as a rock. The cover it came with is a little over sized if you have longer pieces of wood mine are 16 to 20 inch pieces .The reason Im telling you the length of the wood is to say the cover fits kinda lose over the rack and wood so its not a pain to slide the cover over it after you load up your wood.Love this thing ,should have bought it years ago.

Honest reviews on Panacea 15200 4-Foot Deluxe Log Rack with Cover

Cover is very cheap. Not like the picture at all. It is basicly a black tarp you would buy at the Home Depot.

Over priced for what you get even though the metal frame isn't bad.

This log rack is just the right size for me as I have limited storage space. It does not hold an entire cord, but it can handle 1/2 cord. Has a cover to keep logs dry and the rack keeps the logs off the porch floor, eliminating easy access for termites to get into my home. Price is reasonable too!

This product turned out to work perfectly. It arrived on time and it works as it should. A quartz heater is the only solution for a loft where you need to heat the room rather than all the heat going upstairs!

However, this particular quartz heater (unlike the ones I've had before) is fan-forced, which in my opinion is not as desirable because of the noise issue. It is not noisy as some fan heaters, but I would have preferred the quiet kind, they works just as well. Maybe in my enthusiasm, I didn't check that very carefully...I don't remember seeing 'fan-forced' in the description but I could be wrong.....anyway, that's why I am changing my rating to 4.

A.

Do not purchase from this company or its products. I purchased a vacuum from one of its distributors and stocked up on bags for the model. The bags were purchased directly from Emer. After receiving the bags, but before the vacuum shipped, (it still hadn't by the time the bags arrived, and so, I canceled the order), I found out that the model had been discontinued for quite awhile! I obtained a RAN # from Emer and paid $16.03 to insure it through USPS for return of the bags and a full refund of $109.00. I have not heard anything from them and it has been 2 months. I will now be able to file a claim with USPS, since it was tracked, (although it strangely disappeared in the mail, almost exactly when it should have arrived at Emer's doorstep across the country) and insured. Unfortunately, when you insure with USPS, be prepared to receive much less back and a long wait. We will still be out around $75.00. Emer has not tried to contact us. A vacuum is something which should not be purchased online, imo. None of the vacuum stores and repair shops had even heard of Emer, when we purchased a new machine 2 months ago.

I agree with the first reviewer. We built a new home 2 years ago. The floors are very fragile and are a dark wood. It seemed that everything scratched the surface of the wood and I searched tirelessly for a vac that would not scratch the floor. Ever was the answer! I have the Donatello model and just love it. Light weight and the pivot action allows you to get into all the corners very easily. I would be lost without this. I have a Dyson for heavy duty action, but it would tear up our hardwood floors.

These bags are worth the price. I removed the carpet from my home and installed darkly stained hardwood floors. I quickly learned that my vacuum, which I've loved for years, would not be the best way to clean/maintain my new hardwood floors. So, I started to research. Do you know how hard it is to find a GOOD vacuum cleaner WITHOUT a beater brush and that is designed NOT to scratch floors? Let me tell you, it's hard! These vacuum bags work perfectly for my Rafaello Donatello vacuum cleaner. I can only recommend this style and brand! It's light weight and it works flawlessly.

I ended up returning the bellows. At first look it was nice enough for the price. The problem I had was with the intake hole at the bottom. Too much of the exhaled air goes out through that hole as well when you pump it. A simple fix would be to tack a small piece of material inside the bellows to act as a check valve to prevent a lot of the air from escaping when it's being pumped.

Was a little smaller than I had envisioned it based upon the measurement, but nice quality and performs as expected. Because of it's modest size it hangs nicely with the rest of the fireplace tools without overwhelming our space.

I purchased one of these on sale at a local hardware store. Wished I had purchased all 4 they had available. So off to Amazon. They are powerful, and heat a large room. The thermostat feature is what makes them really indispensable. In Wyoming in an all electric house, they have kept my rooms warm without breaking the bank. You won't be disappointed.

I bought this to replace a failed unit in an addition to my house. This room is not on the ductwork for the central A/C, so it needs its own unit.

This model is slightly wider than my old unit, so I also replaced the sleeve (EA108T). This is a through-the-wall mount and requires a sleeve, though if there is an existing sleeve and it's large enough, you can use that. The unit comes with a new grill for the back of the sleeve, and various foam pieces to apply to the sleeve to make the unit fit. Note that you must remove any existing grill or plate from the back of the sleeve.

Mounting the sleeve in the wall is the hard part; the A/C itself just slides in. Both the A/C and heat work fine.

As with any heavy item, it's prone to being damaged by the delivery company. Inspect it carefully and file a complaint if it's damaged. The box for mine had some dings in it, but the unit itself was fine.

We ordered this for a renovated garage apartment. I thought it was like most air conditioning units. The fan runs constantly, but the compressor kicks on when needed. This unit does not do this, the fan turns off and on along with the compressor. The off and on is VERY annoying while either sleeping or watching TV. It is a CONSTANT battle of the noise. I would not purchase this item if you do either of these in the same room.

Best Deals on Frigidaire FRA10EHT2 10,000 BTU Through-the-Wall Room Air

Had one issue: Power cable to the blower fan was loose and hanging into fan blades. Took cover off to and reattached cable with cable ties. The factory cable hook is very poorly made and will not hold cable during shipping. Unit is quiet and heats/cools well.

Honest reviews on Frigidaire FRA10EHT2 10,000 BTU Through-the-Wall Room Air

This requires a 250v 20amp fuse and dedicated circuit. The plug is NEMA 6-20, which has one flat vertical, one flat horizontal and one round prong. The outlet has to match in both configuration and volt/amp. I happen to have a 20amp fuse/circuit even though the old air conditioner was using a 15 amp plug/outlet, so I can change the outlet without any issues but I got lucky. If I had a fuse/dedicated circuit that was 15 amp I would be calling an electrician to replace it.

I ordered two of these, one arrived too damaged to install very poorly handled. It is packed correctly, someone just plain dropped it on the far back corner of the unit and that took all of the weight. Ruined it through the styrofoam packing. They are taking "48-72 hours" to decide if I should get a replacement, which translates into 6-9 working days or around two weeks. In the meantime, that particular room is not inhabitable.

The second unit runs fine, and it comes with a remote which I was not expecting, but the water collects in a pool in the bottom pan and you hear water dripping throughout use. There is no apparent drain so it has nowhere to go. Dripping water is not a favorite sound of mine. I have combed through the manufacturer's documentation and can't find any reference to how the water should drain out, except that the unit has to be slanted back so that water flows in that direction.

People have been making and selling room air conditioners for quite a while now. You'd think they would have this all down by now.

I cannot get a window unit due to my window size, and this unit came with a window kit that fit my windows. It worked absolutely perfect for 2 months. Then, on a particularly hot day, the bucket filled up with water and the unit shut off. I drained all the water, which is an absolute pain in the rear to do due to the drain being less than half an inch off the floor. The unit leaks water like a faucet ever since, all over the floor. There is really no effective way to use it anymore. I ordered a different brand that doesn't have water leakage issues. I should have listened to all the reviews I read. I practically paid several hundred dollars for a few months use. What a waste. The unit cools great, but what good is that with water all over your carpet? Stay away from this product.

UPDATE: The unit only leaks when moved. If the water reservoir fills up, and must be drained, the unit must be moved to do so because the drain plug is literally right on the floor and there is no pan or container you can get under it. The reservoir will fill eventually, the unit will have to be drained, will have to be moved, will leak. Once all the water leaks out that is going to leak the unit works great until its time to drain again. Like I said, it took 2 months before I had to drain, but this process was a major PIA. I would avoid this unit, but I still gave in another star because it does not leak except during the drainage process.

The best air conditioners are large central units that connect to a whole building HVAC. Since you're reading this review, it's likely that a central unit isn't a possibility for you like it wasn't for me. If you can put in a window unit, that is your next best bet but if that is not practical, you've got to go portable. You could get a nice fan or an air cooler but that's like taking the bus instead of driving. It's really not the same.

I have two portable air conditioners and both are made by Soleus. This is one of them and the other one is a 14,000 BTU unit. This one cools a 166 sq ft room that only needs to be cooled ten to fifteen degrees and it's more than powerful enough for that. It can bring the temperature down in fifteen minutes or so.

Portable air conditioners, until fans, need to have an unsightly and awkward tube connected to the window. These tubes are inevitable flimsy and don't fit well. They seem unacceptable unless the only alternate solution is to suffer in the heat and then suddenly they don't seem bad.

Soleus is perhaps the best portable air conditioner manufacturer. I haven't ever had a non-Soleus unit but I've heard horror stories about others. I've heard bad things about these too but I haven't had anything bad happen.

This is probably the smallest and cheapest good unit on the market so if 8000 BTU is enough for you, this is an excellent bet.

Best Deals on Soleus Air PE2-08R-62 Evaporative Portable Air Conditioner

. . . if you're mindful of one limitation: it condenses lots of moisture into a limited capacity container, and will need to be emptied or drained. It's built low to the ground, so I put it up on a little platform and attached the short included plastic hose to the drain port and put a container under it to catch the "drip" (which when it is very hot and humid is really a "stream"!). Recognizing that limitation (discussed in previous reviews), I've avoided any problems and have been quite pleased with the product. It cools well and in my limited basement space where it is used, it does fine.

Honest reviews on Soleus Air PE2-08R-62 Evaporative Portable Air Conditioner

This works well for the particular conditions in which we're using it. We're happy with it. We live in northern California, where hot weather is usually also dry, and evenings are cooler. We put this in a bedroom that gets very hot during the day and doesn't cool down quickly enough at night. Instead of trying to fit the "window kit" into our old-fashioned window, we just leave the window slightly open with the end of the vent hose sticking out while the unit is running. We run it at bedtime and it cools the room down nicely. I gave it only four stars instead of five because of a couple of design flaws: (1) Though I don't expect that we'll have to deal with emptying the condensation tank much, if at all, it's true that the opening is awfully close to the floor, and I can see that in a more humid environment, where it would need emptying more often, it would be pretty awkward. I don't see why the designers couldn't have put the hole a little higher up so that you could actually get a pan or bowl under it. (2) The instructions said to keep the vent hose as straight as possible, but they put the vent hole at the bottom of the unit too. Most people don't have their windows at floor level, and putting this thing on a table or something would also be awkward, since it's so big and heavy (90 pounds, I think). That said, it works just fine for us sitting on the floor with a 90-degree bend in the hose, so I guess that's not such a big deal.

UPDATE: We've had it for almost a year now and are still satisfied with it. It gets the room nice and cool very quickly, and we have never yet had to empty the condensation tank. So that's not a big problem in a dry climate.

We live in a midcentury apartment building mid 20th century, that is. The building's central air unit has reliably failed during each heat wave we've lived through since moving in. This year, I'd had enough. We ordered the Soleus based on a couple of days of Internet research, and we bought from Amazon for ease of returns if that became necessary. The unit arrived short one panel for the screen-door vent adaptor. We emailed the manufacturerer and they promptly sent not one but two additional panels.

Then we had a few weeks when the building's main A/C was working. But sure enough, another heat wave and the central unit failed. This morning it was 78 degrees in the coolest room of our apartment. We rolled out the Soleus, assembled the vent panel and duct, and turned it on. Fifteen minutes later the room was 75 degrees.

This A/C unit is a bit noisy, but not really worse than the central A/C's fan unit in our apartment. We have the Soleus hooked up in the living room and venting out that patio door. A fan will push the cool air back to us in the bedroom.

78 degrees probably doesn't sound too bad, but when you are 46 and hormonally imbalanced, it's too hot for comfortable sleep. I consider the Soleus a good investment and would add that I was very happy with the fast and courteous handling of our missing-parts request to the manufacturer.

This portable space heater by Lasko helps to cut my electric bill. At first I wasn't sure if should get this or a space heater that works with oil inside of it; but I'm glad I got this one instead. It couldn't be easier to set up--just take it out of the box and plug it in! Although you should read the four pages of instructions in order to be familiar with general precautions and to know how to use the timer feature and a couple other extra features, it amazed me just how intuitive it is to get this thing up and running.

In addition, it's easy to lift--it's very lightweight, especially after you remove it from the box; and there's a neat timer function so that you can "program" this to turn off at a set time up to 8 hours in advance. Great! The machine also turns on or off automatically depending on how close it is to making your room the exact temperature you specify by pressing the plus and minus buttons to set temperature.

After you turn it on, be aware that within 20 to 30 seconds you're going to feel the heat begin to blast upward from this unit, so don't get too close to the top of it after you turn it on. Another cautionary note, at least according to the instructions, is that the device can possibly leave a permanent stain on hardwood or similar floors. If this is a concern for you, keep looking for another portable space heater. My carpeting is practically industrial strength and I have plenty of extra pieces of the carpeting in one of my closets so I personally am not too concerned about any staining that may or may not result from my using this heater.

Overall, this is a great little heater that pleasantly surprised me when I realized just how powerful it really is. Although it's not for everybody (i.e., people with hardwood floors may want to stay away) it suits me fine and I recommend it for heating rooms up to roughly 300 square feet especially when the floors are not hardwood.

Nice floor level space heater that literally makes no noise. It does take a little bit to warm up a decent sized room, but what I like is there is no noise. After trying a stand up convection heater which took 7-9 hours to heat up our living, dining and kitchen rooms (about 400 sq feet of a 900 sq. ft apt.), we decided to try another type of heater. This heater is the best for this purpose. We do close off the bedrooms and bathrooms but this heater only takes two to three hours to heat up our living room, dining room and kitchen areas. We live in san diego and it is usually about 62 degrees in the mornings here. We warm the apt to about 71-72 degrees. I think that it would warm faster if we had decent insulation in the building and better insulated windows (Including a sliding glass door) but it is an apt so we cant change that. The apt was built in the 60's and management won't go for upgrading anything. What I am saying is if you have a better insulated house or apt you prob don't need to section off rooms by closing doors and it will prob even heat up faster. I would def. recommend this heater for heating a apt. I love it. It does have a countdown timer built into itself that will turn it off after 1-8 hours, but not one that will turn it on at a certain hour of the early morning. It also won't work with a timer plug to turn it on at early hours of the morning either because of the built in timer interferes with this function. Buy it. You will be happy if you have been trying to find some alternative to decently heat your apt.
