I have owned several different electric kettles, but this one is by far the best. The Zojirushi is easy to use and set up. The timer is the best feature of all, I set the timer in the evening and the water is at the perfect temperature when I wake in the morning. The whole family uses it, for tea, hot cocoa, coffee (french press), instant oatmeal, roman noodles and more! This is the best purchase I have made in a long time, and the Zojirushi is worth every cent.

All in all, this electric pot is wonderful. Heats as stated in the manual (about 35 minutes for entire pot). Easy to use (plug and go). Keeps the water hot for a long time and the digital readout lets you know the current temp of the water.

Couple of drawbacks that maybe they'll fix in the next model: 1) Runs on 2 "AA" batteries for dispensing when not plugged in. Batteries only last about 7 hours. 2) When the batteries run out, you can't just replace the batteries and continue using the pot. It doesn't recognize the new batteries. For the new batteries to be recognized, you must plug the unit back into a wall outlet. That really defeats the purpose of going outlet free.

Seems a bit expensive for the 2 problems noted but otherwise I'm almost universally happy with all Zojirushi products I've ever purchased.

My only complaint is: It is only stainless steel for the outside look, not for the container that actually holds the water. As a result, the water dispensed from it always tasted/smelled a little weird, not like from a real stainless steel kettle.

Honest reviews on Zojirushi CV-DYC40 Super VE 4-Liter Vacuum Electric Dispensing Pot

I own this particular model along with a couple CD-LCC models and other boilers. Hand down, Zojirushi is the best for having large amount of hot water ready at home or small coffee shops.

Please note that CV-DYC40 was mainly designed for holding water at 208F and 195F. The unit is designed to be plugged in 24/7 and refilled as needed. Note that a whole gallon of water is contained in an extremely well insulated container while the boiler heats to 212F every single time one adds water! It takes about 2hrs for the insulated units to cool to 175F, which is painfully slow. If you insist on holding water at 175F, I suggest getting a non-insulated CD-LCC model. A workaround for CV-DYC40 is to boil about 2/3 of the water and top off with cold water.

The battery function is very nice as you can take the boiler anywhere in the house, coffee shop, outdoors for parties, catering etc. If you own a small coffee shop and are looking for a boiler/kettle for americanos and hot chocolate consider that this boiler is very slow (30-40min to boil a 4 liters) and you may end up using this boiler as more of a 'fancy' carafe, still using a regular kettle to boil water.

Lastly, for those of you who are tea aficionados, part of the tea flavor comes from oxidation. As the water sits in the boiler at, say, 195F or 208F oxygen and other gases escape which may lead to some teas tasting slightly different. But, hey! If you can't tell a difference then who cares?

Having a Zojirushi rice cooker, it is a trusted brand in my house. I am a frequent flyer and two problems arise from weekly flights: a weaker immune system and jet lag. Proper hydration reduces jet lag and any device that easily increases my water intake keeps me healthier.

I have a large collection of tea of coffee apparati. For tea, I enjoy the instant satisfaction of filling up a cup with more hot water, and have always relied on electric kettles. The Zojirushi has a very large reservoir, definitely enough to fill my 12-cup Bodum Assam teapot twice full for a tea party... No pun intended.

The stovetop method is what I've used the past few days. 7min and boiling water, viola! This method produces water too hot for coffee, and scalding hot for green tea. No control!

Previously, I used 2 Pino digital electric kettles ($70/ea) and found them to have much more flexibility for teas and coffee. They were far better at maintaining temperature to 2-3F, and had a smaller reservoir of 50oz. I found myself refilling the kettle on occasion, perhaps 2-4x daily during the winter months. Major issue is that I used them so much they ended up burning out after 1yr or so of use.

As previously mentioned, the Zojirushi has a massive reservoir. It is great for all sorts of kitchen uses and dare I say household uses. The toilet clogged and we used boiling water and soap to fix it. I'm told it would work well for gelatins, hot breakfast cereals and instant noodles, as well as hearing baby bottles.

For teas, I find the Zojirushi to lack the sensitivity I'm used to from a digital kettle. Rare teas are to be steeped as low as 160F and that's harder to hit that target for me now. I find myself mixing hot water with cold tap water to get exactly where I need to be.

For coffee, 203F is a good target to hit. This water boiler runs hot and the timer works well for waking up to hot water.

Overall, I like the larger reservoir but have sacrificed the control that my Pino kettle had. Hopefully this will at least last longer. It is very easy to make crappy green tea if your temperatures are too hot, less so for black teas.

This model in particular requires batteries. You can make your device portable. To be honest, you can do this with a Zojirushi thermos and save a few $$. The stupid thing is that the batteries literally allow you only to dispense water without being plugged in. For $30, this feature doesn't seem worth it, considering the boiler is insulated. I thought I'd use this for reheating on batteries but that isn't the case.

More updates after sustained usage to come...

Ok this was a great wall decal. Applied easily, but just do not place anywhere near or where the air flow is from your vents, bc her vent blows directly towards it and the heater has caused it to come off the wall. Yet I reattached in a better place and all is well. =)

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I obtained this product to use in the area of my flat where I keep my computer. Since office buildings often are extremely over-heated in winter, the heat which it produces should be suited to those who tend to become chilled easily. I tried it in October, well before the season when I'd be placing my thermostat at the 65 where it remains all winter, and found it produces only minimal heat. Whether it will get me through the winter chill I cannot say.

It does have some drawbacks. It's compact size and cord holder are definite 'pluses,' and it is energy efficient. However, the directions cautioned against placing it on a desk or tabletop, and instructed that it should be three feet from furniture and fabrics. I was unable to feel much heat from a distance of three feet, and I also would question whether many people would have enough space to keep such an appliance that distance in open space.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The Bionaire Office Heater is really well designed for its purpose: to heat your immediate workspace. It's reasonably quiet, which is really important in this context, and it emanates a good amount of heat to keep you comfortable when there's a chill. It's a very basic device: no thermostat, no oscillation/rotation.

Having the motion sensor is also a very good feature. The office or plant manager doesn't like it when employees waste electricity by leaving a heater going all day. This one turns off itself when there's no motion nearby after about 15 minutes.

Right now my wife is using it at her desk in school (she's a teacher). When winter is over, we're planning to use it in the bathroom in our little, unheated spring/summer/fall cottage where nights and mornings are cool all year round. I'll update this if I actually do get to try it out in that setting.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a small compact heater which is meant to give you a little bit of heat when your feet are freezing or your hands need a quick warm up. It is not a heater that you would use to really warm up a room. It is what I call the QUICK FIX heater. I acquired this for my wife, who is constantly cold in the winter time in her office. She simply placed it on the floor under her desk and it gave her enough heat to stop complaining about chills.... The motion sensor makes for this to be energy efficient...walk away for a while and it shuts down and does not waste electricity...which is exactly what you want in an office environment. Its not there to heat a room...but to give you some extra heat...so why have it running when you aren't there.

Excellent product to get rid of that winter chill and frozen feet/hands. 5/5 for us.

Honest reviews on Bionaire BCH4562E-GM Office Heater with Worry Free Motion Sensor

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This heater is designed to keep your immediate desk area warm and it does just that. I tested it out at work when our temperature dipped down this winter. I rested the heater on my desk (even though it says not to, I just made sure it didn't get too hot) and aimed it towards me like I do with my personal fan during the summer. I liked that it has a motion sensor and turns off if there is no movement for 15 minutes. I also like that you can change it between low, high and motion sensor.

While this heater does not rotate, have a temperature setting or heat a large area; it does what it is designed to do. In my opinion it is a little overpriced and you could buy another heater cheaper that would do the same thing. If you are going to buy it; I would recommend it for an office, bathroom or possibly even a small bedroom.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This heater works as advertised. It is sold as an office heater, but if you have a large office, it may not be effective. I placed mine under my desk in my home office to warm my tootsies and it works great. It throws a nice amount of steady heat and the fan is not overly loud as to cause a distraction. There are two settings, high and low.

The sensor automatically turns the unit off when you leave the room for a length of time, or, it can be turned off completely. The sensor is a great safety feature and energy saver, as well. Another neat feature is that the cord can be hidden by wrapping it around a hidden pedestal on the bottom of the unit. The unit is fairly small and compact, which allows you to set it on your desk instead of the floor.

All in all, this portable heater is a charm. The only negative is that when you first start using it, you have to suffer through the smelly new plastic odor until the unit is broken in and used for a while. Recommended.

This little heater is awesome!!! It heated up my ground blind quite quickly. but be careful it can and will get very hot very fast. So, if you have a nylon ground blind make sure you don't put it on high it will make the nylon very soft and stretch it.

I purchased the PAC600T (one step below this unit) from Amazon one year ago. When it arrived, I filled the tank with water, inserted it in the unit and my floor was covered with water less than a minute later. Turns out the unit's plastic base housing was cracked during shipment. Amazon replaced the unit, with the same results for the second unit. At that same time, there must have been lots of returns because Amazon stopped selling the unit. I stepped up to this unit with its slightly higher BTUs and hefty price.

The unit arrived fine, no leaks after filling with water, and I used it most of last summer (in a 14' x 20' room with average height ceiling). The unit puts out cool, definitely not cold, air. The only way to really use the unit is to get it started when the temperature isn't too high, then keep it running. I don't think it would be able to cool a warm room. It simply isn't overly powerful. That may have to do with the fact that it operates at 110 volt, rather than 220 like many AC units that are built into apartment walls.

The unit has been sitting behind my couch all winter. When I went to use it this year, the removable plastic water tank was cracked. It was emptied at the end of the season and not exposed to excessive temperatures, so I don't know what that's about.

I assumed that with the high BTU (and price tag), this would be the unit to use. But I'm going to try one of the less expensive units this year and check out its performance.

I bought 2 units last year. At first it worked fine. Then, this season, when I started to use the air conditioners, one of the unit leaked at the base, ruining my wood floor. I thought I could just use it without water, and I found it to be very insufficient to cool off the room. I have used different models of pinguino and I found that the newer models are more problematic. If it isn't leaking, then it is the alarm light that kept coming on, shutting down the unit. I followed the maintenance procedure to clean the unit, but it doesn't seem to help. I am fed up with pinquino. I think I may have to switch back to those window units.

This product,DeLonghi 700T,was about the worst purchase that I have ever made. The unit ran for 10 mins and then shut off. After several attempts,we finally found the service center that replaced the fan motor--after a 4 month wait for the part. But that did not fix the problem--the unit shuts down after a short run.Because all of this has taken so long,Delonghi says that the warranty is now limited and that I have to take the unit to a service center 50 miles away.It has been close to 2 years and I still do not have a functioning air conditioner.

Honest reviews on DeLonghi PAC700T Pinguino Portable Air Conditioner

I purchased a Pinguino PAC 700T 3 years ago. Rated at 12,000 BTUs, it cools about as well as a 6000 BTU in-window unit. However, at the beginning of this summer season, I find that it no longer cools or dehumidifies air. I found DeLonghi's central service number (800-322-3848 in case you need it) and asked for my nearest service/repair center. They informed me that they no longer have any repair centers in Massachusetts. They suggested that I take the unit to Hartford, CT, about 2 hours from Boston where I live. Having paid $1300 for this unit just 3 years ago, I expected better service than this. It appears that DeLonghi maybe doesn't care too much about supporting their products after the sale. This will be my last DeLonghi product of any kind.

I bought the 700 Pinquino A/C unit because of its excellent energy efficiency and quiet operation. I liked the looks too, so many others look so ugly that I would not have them in my livingroom. I have had the unit for two years now, and so far no problems at all. It works great, and is very quiet, and cools my 700sqft room well, although it takes a while when above 90F. The water reservoir lasts about a day before needing refilling. My only complaint is a minor one: The plastic finish is of good quality, but it scratches easily when moving the unit around and you bump into something. If it had some color matching bumper strips or something around its middle section, that might help. I am happy with this unit.

Be forewarned!!!. Cutting into your wall is not a simple task.

This is NOT a window box it IS a kit to install a window unit through a wall you Will need to create a hole in the wall to put this through.

I've installed kits like this a few times it's a wonderful idea for a pertinent installation of what is normally considered a tacky yet important appliance.

Things you should know before starting this project.

Location of studs. (you will need to put this box in between studs never cut through a stud to install this device. If the stud spacing is to small consult a professional before you attempt an install. or risk you whole wall collapsing with half your roof.) if you must cut through a support you will need a double header and footer around the box.

Location of outlets and wires inside the wall

(You don't want to cut through any wire/pipe in your wall so don't put this OVER a plug as most plugs are dropped in from the attic or above(even if you live in a trailer.)

Ok dangerous part over with. :)

These last few items and hints are just for looks.

1. Get some molding to go around the exposed edge.

2. Have some foam or flashing to put on the outside of the box or risk water inside the wall in storms (basic stuff)

3. Have all the tools you'll need BEFOR you punch that hole in the wall.

4. Have a friend on standby just in case.

Not all kits will have molding or (make pretty) bits a bobs so expect to go to a home supply outlet of some-sort

Installing these isnt all that hard a proficient carpinder can do it in under an hour. But expect to spend most of the day on it. think weekend project take it slow.

Oh ya almost forgot.

run the AC on a flat surface for a while BEFORE you start in on the box and figure out how much of an angle you will need to insure the blasted thing drains OUTSIDE! and i mean let it run for a while it takes upwerds of 5 hrs to get a liquid buildup enough to drip.

Depending on the kit itself and your local humidity you may need to drill in a drain hole near the back of the kit (NOT THE AC) the kit! don't go drilling into your AC

Tools i used.

Tape Measure

Level

Drill

Hammer

nails/screws

Screwdriver bit for drill.

Saws-all

Flashlight

dust mask (drywall dust and junk)

screw driver (for where the drill wont catch)

old sheet/tarp

drill bits. one big one for starting the saws-all

(double header)

one to two 2x4's

Ripsaw (hand saw circular saw .. something to cut the 2x4)

LONG nails and or wood screws (DO NOT USE DRYWALL SCREWS)

Spare Drywall the hole inside will probably be larger than the required size for the box if you have to make a header. (drywall make pretty junk)

To make your life a little more easy use some header hangers (steel strips to hold up the header instead of just nails.

to create the header.

open the wall back untill you can see 3 studs

Cut the center stud out to the apropret gap.

Cut the 2x4's to the length to span the gap between the 2 outer studs you will need 4 of these.

Check your fit

Screw the 2x4's together lengthways to make them 4x4's

Use the hangers or nail in these new headers to the other studs and secure the center stud to the header. the connection point to the outer studs is the important part.

Pick where you want your box cut the outer hole and install.

Patch Drywall make it nice and install molding around the box slide the AC plug it in and enjoy the cold air. :)

Pros:

This is a durable wall sleeve. With a little effort the pictures on the instructions can guide you through a solid installation that will be heavy duty. If you feel comfortable cutting through drywall and adding support beams to studs, you can handle this project in a weekend. Having this wall sleeve makes it easier to insulate around the sides of the A/C unit for an air-tight installation. Hot outside air stays out, cool inside air stays in.

Cons:

The instructions are very poorly written. They offer different details depending on the brand of wall sleeve, but it's not easy to determine the brand of this wall sleeve. I measured the dimensions and made my best guess from there.

Also not clear in the instructions is that you need to REMOVE THE BACK PANEL. You won't know this from the instructions. The back panel is a sheet of aluminum and a grate. The sheet of aluminum should be removed and the grate only placed in the back of the wall sleeve. I installed it with the aluminum in place and the A/C unit will overheat in about 3 minutes, shut off the compressor, and only blow hot air. Then the unit won't blow cold air again until it cools off again. ($65 service call later...) I removed the aluminum and left the grate and the A/C unit has been working fine. The hot air is now free to escape from the back of the wall sleeve.

I'd also like to see a water drip or spigot thread on the back of the wall sleeve. The condensation from the unit will collect in the wall sleeve and drain to the back where there are two holes in the lip of the sleeve. I rigged something to help it drip away from the unit, but it would have been preferrable to have something engineered as a part of the sleeve.

There were a few minor corners bent when my wall sleeve arrived. Better packaging could prevent this.

Best Deals on Frigidaire EA108T 18 In. Sleeve Kit for Through-the-Wall Air

Easy to work with. Figidiare unit fit well into space. Since the unit is made to have a tilt to shed water the trim on the inside wall did not cover properly. Had to build a 1x2 wood frame around the unit then install the trim kit.

Honest reviews on Frigidaire EA108T 18 In. Sleeve Kit for Through-the-Wall Air

This sheet-metal box is worth about twenty bucks. It doesn't come adequately packed, mine arrived in poor shape. The workmanship is indifferent, the foam baffles were attached incorrectly. The installation manual was written by someone with a strong aversion to communication.

Would have been nice if the home store I special ordered the main wall unit from had informed me that I needed to special order this sleeve also. Although Amazon promptly sent me this product asap. Happy isn't the word when I saw the box arrive just 2 days after I ordered it. I was so upset that I had already put a hole in my wall and had to seal it best I could til it arrived. Pretty easy to put in but you do need 2 people unless you want stuff falling.

I like this heater. The only problem I have with it is the cord isn't heavy enough. The cord gets very hot and has melted 2 plugs. I think it should be recalled as a fire hazard.

Pros:

-Very quiet. Most noise you will hear is a low hum.

-3 different modes. Low, High, and Fan. Nice to have the fan choice on warmer days.

-Heats very quickly. Heats a moderate sized room in about 20 minutes, and the automatic thermostat is a very nice addition for at night when sleeping.

Cons:

-Only thing I can think of is that I wish the fan was a little more powerful. I wouldn't recommend to use the fan feature as a fan replacement entirely.

Overall, it does it's job perfectly. Great for if you have a room in your house with a bad draft. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable space heater.

Bought this for my desk area at work after my last space heater quit on me. Wow, what a difference! I have to run this on low and it still raises the temp in the whole room two degrees. My co-workers love me!

Honest reviews on Lasko 675919 Stanley Pro-Ceramic Utility Heater, 12-Inch

Using in two car garage. Maintains Avery comfortable temp even when outside is teens twenties. Not much noise and moves a good amount of air. I would definitely recommend this heater and get another for myself. Good value.

17 degrees this morning, two car garage 60 degrees.

Follow up:

It's Late April and still very much like winter in Kansas. This heater hasn't missed a lick since it came out of the box. The electric bill is a little higher, but not as bad as I figured for constant running. Turned my garage into a usable area during the coldest of times. Love it.

Still a thumbs up from me.

At first, I loved this space heater. It was nice and warm.

There were only two small issues at the beginning. One is that the power light is on whenever it's plugged in, even if it's off, so it's rather useless as an indicator. The other is that the "adjustable angle" is a very small angle, maybe a 10 degree change in direction.

Then, one day, the heather stopped working. About 45 days after I bought it, so I can't return it to the store. I used the reset instructions that came with the heater. It worked for another 3 minutes or so. I had to reset it again. It worked for another 3 minutes or so. After having reset it 5 times just tonight alone, I've decided to throw it out and buy something else.
