We have a small house, just under 1000 square feet. Any new appliance has to take up less square footage, if possible, than the one it's replacing. This Bosca fit the bill nicely. I was concerned, though, about a few things before I bought it. Was the hopper big enough to keep the stove burning 24 hours on a minus ten degree day? Was the force of hot air strong enough to warm up the farthest room? Was it easy to keep clean? Was it reliable?

I'll address each concern with answers, now that I've had this stove for one month. I should mention that I do not use this with a thermostat, so it is constantly on.

The hopper holds about 60 70 pounds, and during one very cold stretch that included a night with temperatures hitting 25 below zero, we kept it on medium high all day. The house stayed at 70 degrees with no other source of heat being used. The full hopper lasted almost exactly 25 hours at this rate. This is better than I expected. On normal cold days, say, 20 degrees above, we keep it on low and it lasts 36 hours.

The force of the blower is stronger than that of a stove I had that was designed for twice the area. Far better than I expected.

It is so easy to keep clean that I don't even need to wash my hands after vacuuming it. Because the air intake is from underneath, not through a space adjacent to the front glass as in so many pellet stoves, the front glass stays clean for days. The burn-pot is so ingeniously designed, and this stove is so efficient, that you can burn several bags of pellets before you even think of having to clean the burn-pot. And when you do, you'll see it's a two-part pot: you pull out the U-shaped part with holes, scrape it clean, and place it back into the burn-pot holder. Voila, you're done!

It has never let us down. We can set it, fill the hopper, go away for a day, and come back, and it's firing away beautifully.

Our experience with this stove has made us enthusiastic about looking for other appliances made in Chile.

I couldn't find "made in" information when deciding to purchase this item. For those interested, it is made in China. The item is a light grey rather than the black shown in the photo.

Personal Mini Fridge Cooler / Warmer BLACK Review

I thought that this would be a good gift for my brother-in-law's home office. He always likes a cool drink at hand. First of all I didn't particularly care about the condition when it arrived. It definitely didn't look new with a number of fingernail scratches on the top in the handle area although the box it came in seemed unmolested and the packing seemed original. The black finish also looked hazy. This product is also billed as an "office" cooler but the inside caution sheet said that it had to be turned off after a few hours "or damage will occur". Their description here at Amazon says 10 hours but I don't recall seeing that when I ordered this as a Christmas gift. So you have to babysit this thing all day to make sure it doesn't die? Not much of a "office" cooler. It is also a bit noisy with the fan in the back being loud. It uses the same fan as your average computer case so you'd think it would be about as loud as that. But it's louder.

Overall, I wouldn't do this product again for what I intended, keeping drinks cool at the office. Maybe for the car or something but it's really kind of stupid design for that use.

Unbelievable. My wife and I needed something on the same floor as our baby's room. And then after about 3 months of use, IT CAUGHT ON FIRE!!! We had a dinner party and I smelled smoke! It was just about to burst into flames and I caught it. It made some kind of high-pitched buzzing noise and then lit up like a fuse. Good thing it was 6P in the afternoon! Craziness. And the sh-t is made in China, so good luck getting a refund.

They don't make it very clear, but there IS a time limit on this mini fridge. It says in Amazon's listing that you can't run it for more than 10 hours or "damage may occur." It should be made more obvious in the packaging and labeling that you can only use it for short times. I think 10 hours is being generous, since performance seems to slow earlier than that. Works okay for very short times, but that's all.

Honest reviews on Personal Mini Fridge Cooler / Warmer BLACK

Although it is exactly the size as advertised, I was a bit surprised at how small it was. I wanted something a bit bigger. However, I am finding I prefer its small stature. It is perfect for use in my office as it fits nearly anywhere and also great for travel, which I do quite frequently. It keeps my son's milk cold enough, which is why I purchased it. I have not yet used the heating feature. Just be careful: the black box on the cord can get hot.

I needed something small to keep a few things chilled while at work. Without wanting to make the trek to the kitchen at the other end of the bldg., I am able to keep this in my cubicle overhead bin. I can fit a couple of soda's, sandwich, yogurt etc. cold. It's very convenient!

First off, this is my first deep fryer so I can not compare this to others which Im sure are very good as well.

I recived this Hamilton Beach deep fryer as a gift being I have been getting intrested in fried foods at home.

I really enjoy this fryer alot. It is built very well. Very easy to operate too. It heats up nicely and even has a timer.

Just a note, the timer dosn't turn off the fryer when done, which isn't a problem with me at all. The only thing I see is that the battery for the timer appears to be incased and cant replace if it goes out, but it really seems to be working perfectly.

This fryer is not only easy to set up and use, but cleaning was a major concern to me before getting any fryer. This thing is very easy to disassemble and clean.

Nice deep basket. I had alittle problem with my beer battered fish and chicken sticking to the bottom of the basket after I pulled a batch, but this has nothing to do with the fryer, its just learning the technique. I'm only stating this for anyone else intrested in purchasing a first time fryer. But the basket for this one is very easy to clean and pretty deep so you can get a decent load of food per batch.

The food fries up very quickly too. My chicken and fish come out cooked just right, staying tender and juicy by following the directions that accompany the manuel/recipe book that comes with this.

If I ever needed to get another fryer for what ever reason, although this is my first one, I wouldn't hesitate to get another like this. I am really very happy with this. Simple, gets the job done, and not alot of whistles and bells you never end up using.

Also, I have noticed it is insulated very well too. The metal sides don't get real hot, although I would never recommend trying to lift or move it when in operation. The oil really gets hot like its supposed to, and the cover is really nice keeping it all contained when in use.

Enjoy! :)

I purchased this fryer, never having used one prior, because of its 12-cup capacity and for how easy to use it was made to seem. It has the timer, viewing window, claimed to be very simple to clean. While these claims aren't exactly untrue, with the money you're spending, these features are pretty standard. There are cheaper fryers that function more like deep buckets to put oil in but this is certainly several steps up from that. Though, the truth is that its just a basic fryer. Clean up (as you might imagine) is a bit of a pain if you're using this on a semi-regular basis. And, frankly, you NEED to use it on a pretty regular basis in order to get your money's worth. The 96 oz. of oil needed to get this thing going makes it an expensive novelty if only for occasional use. I do enjoy this fryer; it keeps its temperatures well, the green "ready" light also (possibly incidentally) lets you know where the temperature level is at, roughly, by flashing on when its reached its set temp. Its easy to set the temperatures, the guide that comes with this is actually really helpful on setting things to the right temps (the little cookbook section isn't bad either). One note on temps: the older the oil is the lower you'll want to place temps. Hamilton Beach's suggestions are helpful but not the law, play around with cook times and temps as the oil gets older. One interesting note about its quality design: I recently, softly dropped the lid and it is now permanently misshapen. Its felt solid otherwise, just odd such a small ding would leave a large impact on aluminum. Other than that, again, its easy to use, can be a great time-saver, but does just what it should for $50. I would disregard the bells and whistles and see it for what it is: an entry level fryer.

Given as a Christmas gift to my daughter. She was very happy with the product stating it was better with cooking times than her last fryer. The "well" was deep enough to cook a family of five enough chicken at one time.

Got this fryer as a gift from my dad. I will let you all know that the oil pan is a deep 1/3 hotel pan so if you need to replace it just get one of those at a restaurant supply store and put 96oz of oil in it (2x48oz of canola oil at my walmart were 2.84ea).

Now about the fryer itself... the handle on the basket could be a little sturdier (so could the basket itself honestly) as the way to attach and detach it is to squeeze the forks together and lift/lower/insert/remove it. The little angles of metal that hold the forks could be a little longer so as to hold the handle a little more securely. Not a huge complaint by any means just a suggestion.

The only real issue I have so far is the cord. It's about 18" long and the magnets that hold it onto the fryer are so weak you could literally drop a hot wing on it and it would fall off. I know its there for safety but with such a short cord you almost dont need the magnetic release. Plus the actual plug portion where it plugs into the fryer is about 2" long with additional room needed to keep the cord from bending against a wall and causing it to disconnect. So as long as you can keep the back of the fryer 6" from the wall (probably a good idea in the first place) you will be fine.

Heating to 375 was almost exactly 10 min (for a gallon of oil thats pretty quick really)... cooking some home made chicken nuggets and some fries was quick and easy. Nuggets took 2-3 min and fries took 1-2min so all told I had a plateful of fries and nuggets in 15 min from turning on the fryer from a cold boot. Even with the ready light off 90% of the time while cooking the food still cooked quickly and was dry (as in not oily) when I sat down to eat. Dry food from a fryer is indicative of a high cooking temp so even if the oil wasnt 375 exactly while cooking it was still hot enough to leave the food perfectly cooked and not greasy. The fries and nuggets were crispy and just outstanding tasting... ate almost half a bag of fries (walmart seasoned fries are about 1.65 for a 2lb bag) in one sitting!

Overall this fryer is nearly flawless and only the two things mentioned above plus maybe some insulation around the oil pan to keep the sides cool to the touch keep it from being the perfect fryer. I used to be a fry cook in a popular restaurant in upstate NY and I really had no issues with this fryer once I got cooking (pardon the pun).

nov 30 2012 update: I still have this fryer and its still going strong. The element is covered in blackness but it still heats up just fine. The paint on the temp dial wore off in about a month but I just took a thumb tack and scored the lines for the different temps and if you know the top one is 375 and they go down by 25 deg per line you can figure it out... probably could have just used the tacks themselves to be honest and just stuck them in and left them. The only other thing that's gone wrong with the unit is the button for the timer recessed into the unit so far that you cant push it anymore. I suppose I could open it up and try to fix it but I only used the timer a couple of times while making fried chicken and I have other kitchen timers so Im really not concerned.

Lasko 6435 Designer Series Ceramic Oscillating Heater with Remote Control

only 3 stars, because of this design flaw issue:

I like it, and it's not blowing my circuit breaker when it's in the HIGH setting, in the room I need it in, so I'm not going to return it.

Others may not be so lucky due to an inexplicable design decision:

I really HATE that when you turn it to LOW setting, you CANNOT USE THE THERMOSTAT!!!

As soon as you select a thermostat "temperature", it automatically switches from LOW to HIGH power, and could then trip a typically overloaded circuit breaker.

If you MUST use the low setting because of your homes wiring, your only choice to keep it from running continuously, is to use the TIMER feature.(minimum 1 hour)

I've had many heaters, and NONE with a thermostat behaves this way in low setting!!

(Including the same brand cheaper LASKO 754200 ceramic heater that I also bought.) Inexplicable.

I've got some areas of the house that I'll blow the circuit breaker if I use the HIGH setting.

(14AWG wiring, with 15A breakers, and some are pretty heavily loaded already. The kind of "cheap" barely acceptable wiring many new houses have in them.)

I won't buy an electic heater unless it has both a high(1500 watts) and low(usually ~750W, but this one says 900W) setting, plus a thermostat to keep it from running constantly.

If you are buying this heater and MUST use it in the LOW setting in some areas, then you'll want to buy something else.

On the PLUS side, the designers got a lot right:

1. (my Wife likes it) looks good in a living room (smaller than I had pictured, that's a good thing).

2. AIRFLOW: Very quiet. It has a vertical "Squirrel cage" type blower. One fan speed.

(No "Blower only" mode.)

The description tries to make it sound like it's got a powerful blowerno, I wouldn't call it that.

but it does have better airflow than I've seen in many other ceramic style heaters with regular fan.

Note: does NOT have an air-filter to keep dust out of the blower or heat elements.

The air intake is in back, and air is then sucked into top and bottom of squirrel cage fan. The air entry is at least 6" above floor, so that somewhat reduces dust intake.

(any heater with no filter usually means taking them apart every couple years to clear out the dust buildup, or see reduced airflow/performance, and earlier failure. It's rare to find a heater with filter.)

3. HEAT: Standard maximum 1500 Watts=5118 BTU/hr.. Plenty to warm us up 5 feet away, and to warm a small room, especially as a supplemental heater.

I'm using it in large open room with very high ceiling, but I can certainly tell it's warmer when I walk back there from colder adjacent front entry area. We're using it more for area heating within the room, while sitting watching TV.

4. Looks like ~40 degree arc swivel, which is enough to get both sides of a person, and to help circulate air in room. (first one I've had with swivel, so don't know how that compares with other brands)

5. TIMER: settable from 1 to 7 hour, in one hour increments.

We use the timer(LOW or high) along with the thermostat(HI only!!), since we'd keep forgetting to turn it off when done in the room (it's quiet, to my ears anyway).

6. Controls: The buttons on top mean I don't have to bend so low if I don't have the remote control in my hand, and the settings are easy to see.

On the other hand, that also makes it harder to tell (when sitting down) what setting is chosen when using the remote control. (The Infrared remote control has no indicators showing current setting)

The remote controls: ON/OFF; Hi/Lo temp; Swivel on/off; temp setting: one press for each temp change cycles through 60 deg to 85deg, in 5 deg increments(HIGH temp ONLY!!); TIMER: each press cycles from 1 to 7 hour, in 1 hour increment, with top display of "4,2,1", so you must add the numbers to figure the total time)

It has a ~6Ft power cord with two prong polarized plug.

I am very VERY pleased with this purchase! Big thanks to the woman who actually suggested this product in a review I was reading about another I was going to purchase. A little unit that seriously kicks out the heat. I use it for an open area den-there is a draft from main home entry on cold nights. I sit it between door and lounging area. No more cold air is felt across the floor and even warms up the den area. Had thought the remote was an unnecessary perk -not anymore! Extremely pleased with this unit.

So I live in a small (I mean small less than 400 sq ft-YIKES!) cottage. I can not swing my cat. It's ALL electric and my PG&E bill is bananas WITHOUT using the heat. So I suffered in the cold until my sister told me she had a lasko floor heater. I wasn't impressed when I saw it (not this one) but I honestly didn't care because I was tired of freezing to death with layers of clothes on. It's murder trying to get going in the morning (skipping showers cause it's too cold :(-C'mon!!). I saw this Lasko and was super excited. It LOOKED interesting, better than my sisters, well on the internet picture anyway. If you have ever lived in a small place you have to know ANYTHING you add to the decor, grows 5 times it's original size. I didn't want a contraption in the middle of my place. Well I'm here to tell you I in fact received it and was instantly satisfied with it's appearance. It's rather elegant as elegant as you can get being a heater and made of plastic. The base is metal and the tower is "i wanna look like stone" and does a fairly good job of it...unless your sitting on top of it and analyzing it. So for appearance for what it is made of and the look it is trying to pull off: 5 stars. Good job Lasko. Now, as far as heating, it's freaking NOT freezing in here anymore I am happy to say. This thing is really great. I love to be warm so I put it on 75 degrees and I am cozy as a bug in about 5 minutes(room ~ 200 sqft) You have many choices. For temp: 60,65.70,75,80,85 then max. There's a timer for it to go off after 1-7 hours. It can oscillate though I don't use this. One persons review stated it made his e-bill go up I don't know but I don't need to find out. My latest PG&E bill is unremarkable (super excited!!) but I've only had it a month so I'm a bit nervous about a surprise huge PG&E bill next month. So this thing looks great and works great for what you pay. It's light weight so I bring it to which ever room I'm inmy whopping choice of basically two. I'm giving 5 stars because it's all I expectednice looking to blend in a small cottage without sticking out like a sore thumb and also does what it sets out to doheats so well it makes me fall asleep :) Oh, it also comes with a remote control which I find wicked funny. I guess only because I simply have no use for it but thank you Lasko. Get off your couch people!! HA. Good Luck to you.

Honest reviews on Lasko 6435 Designer Series Ceramic Oscillating Heater with Remote

This review can also apply to the 6410 model which, according to Lasko Products, only differs in color.

Who would have thought you could have made a functional, inexpensive, thermostatically-controlled, heater, attractive? Well Lasko must have, because they've done it. I purchased this heater for my mother who lives in our finished basement (I don't want anyone thinking I have my mom living in an "unfinished" basement, under the stairs, or anything like that). The oscillating feature is nicely integrated in the design as it pivots along the top band of the metal support structure. It has a bright, red, LED that shines through the bottom of the heating grill so you can easily see that the unit is on. It puts out a good amount of heat and is every bit as effective as the DeLonghi units I own in other parts of my house. So, overall, I'm happy with it. Let me lay out the Pros and Cons for you.

Pros:

Attractive crackle surface along the skin of the unit.

Heavy base provides sturdy support to keep the unit from tipping.

Nice size makes it easily unobtrusive.

Very quiet.

Ready to use right out of the box.

Cons:

Remote is a bit difficult use. It has icons only which are rubber-lifted and all black. They are a bit difficult to see unless you tilt the remote in the light to get contrast from the raised surface.

Thermostat is restricted to five-degree increments. My other DeLonghi units allow full-degree adjustment.

No tip-turn-off feature if you tend to get a bit rowdy in your heated room.

We have only had the unit for about a week. As time goes by, I will provide any additional information that I feel is relevant to this review. I certainly recommend this product. If this review was helpful to you, please say so. Thanks!

UPDATE: I just got off the phone with LaskoProducts who told me that this particular heater does not have a tip shut-off feature. They told me that if the unit were to tip, it would most likely overheat and then the thermal protection would kick in. I don't think I would want to count on the thermal overload protection to protect from a tip-over. If I just HAD to have this heater, I would probably just strap one of the bracket legs to a stationary object or clamp it to the floor. It's pretty stable but it's certainly not "untippable."

I wanted to see how the heater would respond if it tipped over so I tipped it, last night. It did not turn off. It just laid there like a tipped-over R2-D2, rotating back and forth. I didn't wait around to see if it would overheat and shut off. I have two other oscillating heaters in my home in my kid's bedrooms that are made by DeLonghi and they have the tip-over shut-off feature. As a matter of fact, you can't even pick them up without them shutting off. I bought them a few years ago at Costco but couldn't find an identical product when I bought the decorative heater from Amazon.com. If tipping is not your concern, this is still a great heater.

This is a great little heater. Our house is quite drafty, but this heater really makes a difference. It is also very attractive. This heater is excellent and the perfect fit, for a certain set of requirements.

If you have electricity, use an electric heater. Don't bother with the hassel of propane. The cost isn't too different and the hassel factor is much higher than electricity.

I also don't recommend using the small canisters. That's an inconvinient way to go as well.

BUT. If you don't have power and need a cheap, safe heat source that you can run while you sleep, this is the best one made. Buy the 12' hose, place a 20lb propane tank outside, and run this heater all night with just a small crack in a window or door (just in case!). You will get > 100 hours of heat out of a tank of propane! Less than a buck to run it all night.

Highly recommended under the right circumstances.

I use this heater when I camp in my trailer, and it works great especially when used in conjunction with a 20-lb. propane tank. If you do use a 20-lb. tank, however, I STRONGLY recommend that you use the fuel filter (around $10 and yes, this is mentioned in the manual) and also that you always close the propane tank shut-off before turning off the Portable Buddy so that all the gas is burned out. Why? I went through two units that started shutting themselves off about a year after purchase before I found out that oily residue starts building up within the heater when the previous two suggestions are not followed. Even when I tried cleaning it out (I did a complete disassembly), it was not successful unless the control unit and the regulator are replaced as well. I did find a lot of oily mess within contol unit area, but couldn't get it all so it's just as easy to replace the entire unit. What happens is that when you turn on the unit, it seems to work; but, as the oily residue works its way up to the flame part, it will start going out on its own the time it takes to go out in my experience was around 1/2 hour. As far as the precautions go, the fuel filter was easy for me to find locally where propane items are sold (farm stores, large sporting goods stores); it is easy to install (it screws into the heater where a 1-lb. bottle would be located and then the hose to the tank screws right into the fuel filter it should last a year). I pick up an extra one once the current one is being used. I'm getting in the habit of shutting off the gas first. I would give this heater 5 stars if they would have explained this malfunction better I ended up talking with tech support before finding out what was actually wrong.

Also, even in very cold weather, I leave about 6" of window open to keep the condensation to a minimum.

Best Deals on Mr. Heater MRHF273400 Buddy Portable LP Gas Heater

Once and for all, here is the purpose of fuel filter for this heater. When you use this heater with a remote tank & rubber hose, it is imperative that you always shut the tank off first & let the heater run until it burns off all the fuel in the lines. YOU MUST DO THIS EVERY TIME. If you simply turn the heater knob to the off position, what you are doing is trapping 100 PSI of propane in the rubber hose. When high pressure propane just sits in your rubber hose, it literally causes the rubber to leetch a light oil that is part of the chemical composition of the rubber. If this oil forms and you have the filter on the heater, the filter will catch it and seperate it from the gas. If you do not have the filter, the oil will quickly work its way into the heater & destroy both the regulator & control valve. The heater can be repaired, but these two components will need to be replaced.

Honest reviews on Mr. Heater MRHF273400 Buddy Portable LP Gas Heater

This heater is perfect for tent camping in larger tents. It's not too big and pretty stable. We have a large cabin style tent that sleeps 6-8. On our last camping trip to our local Southern California mountains in January 02, the temp at night got down to the mid 30's. Mr. Heater kept us almost too warm, even on the low setting. Our kids ended up sleeping on top of their sleeping bags. The safety features and BTU range were the deciding factors in our purchase. The low oxygen sensor gave us peace of mind(I still purchased a battery operated Carbon Monoxide sensor for the tent for extra precaution)and the BTU range was good. I could not find any other indoor approved heater that warmed us so well. At first I purchased a infer-red heater that attached to a bulk talk. I found too many reasons why not to use it in the tent(No low O2 sensor, no heat shield, and no low setting). Don't chance it. Get an 8 to 12 foot extension hose and a bulk tank. The portable tanks won't last all night. I wouldn't recommend this heater for small tents(not enough space, not enough air volume, and the potential for Carbon Monoxide problems is too great).

After several months of field testing this heater, I found it capable of producing some convenient heat. It competes in a market that includes a lot of products. I have used this heater in a garage, basement and while camping.

Some observations:

1. Outside at your campsite, it is easy to light and carry around, and can be a great radiant heater to warm your hands and face on a cold morning without the fuss of building a fire. Inside a five to six person tent, it warmed the space quite nicely on the high setting. In a tent, I would not take a chance to burn it without keeping at least an open space around it and an open eye on it. While the front has a steel grille to shield the user from direct contact with the burning surface, contact with the grille and top of the unit by skin or manmade materials can result in burns or melted items.

2. The heater is PORTABLE, and portability is your friend. It is very easy to pack or carry anywhere. This is a VERY COMPACT unit that will go nearly anywhere. However, It will NOT heat a large unenclosed space, and it is not a blast furnace.

3. One interesting thing that happens when you burn the heater for any length of time in a cool area is that moisture condenses on the outside of the metallic disposable propane cylinder. The condensation eventually turns to frost and if you sit the heater on top of something that can be damaged by water, you definitely want to put an absorbent cloth under the tank to catch any drops of water when it starts to condense or as the frost melts.

4. Since this is an unvented heater, products of combustion such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and some slight odor are released into the heated space; this is common with all such heaters. Adequate oxygen must also be supplied to facilitate burning as well as to sustain life. The low oxygen shutoff is a good safety feature. People with sensitivity to odors or products of combustion would not appreciate this; I have one such person in my household and he has not enjoyed the smell.

5. There is an open flame in the form of the pilot light which sits just in front of the surface of the ceramic plate seen in the picture. The pilot ignites the gas on the surface of the ceramic plate; that is what causes the plate to glow orange. The pilot is lighted by a built-in sparker. I have found the pilot to be harder to light with a propane extension hose attached than with the disposable cylinder on board.

I have used kerosene heaters, catalytic heaters, electric space heaters. All of them produce heat, but this is the handiest heater I have ever used.

I use the Mr. Heater 30-80K convection heater in my garage, which is roughly 625 SF with high 14 ft. ceilings, CMU block wall, un-insulated ceiling. During winter months of the teens outside, I can bring the inside temp of my garage up to 70 degrees within a short time. However, you may need to hang a box fan up near the ceiling or install a ceiling fan to circulate the heat back down, it puts out a strong trickle of heat in a 360 degree radius that is easy to regulate to keep from alternating between freezing and roasting.

The biggest plus for me with this unit it the lack of objectionable fumes as are produced by forced air kerosene heaters, the propane burns clean and is easy to purchase at my local filling station, no spills or lugging around 5 gallon containers of kerosene.

If massive amounts of heat are what you want, you should consider the forced air propane heater made by Mr. Heater. They put out massive quantities of heat in short order.

I get about 15 hours of use per 25 pound propane tank, the same type my BBQ runs on, by turning this unit on high and then shutting it down to low, alternating this cycle. You can use upwards of a 100 pound propane tank.

The unit is much smaller then I expected which is a plus, it is light and very well made and simple to use.

First let me say I've had good experience with other Mr Heater products. I own the buddy and big buddy heaters, and I love them and have NEVER had a problem with them (with exception to the brittle plastics).

With that said, I am torn on this product. I had high expectations based on reviews I've read, product literature, features, specs and prior Mr Heater experience.

Why I bought it:

Emergency preparedness. To heat our home in the event of a power failure during the snow storms that have been sweeping the country. I bought this because its efficient, affordable, portable, easy to use, clean heat. I bought this because our kerosene heater is WAY too expensive to operate, because Kerosene is harder to find, and because Kerosene is a dirty heat. Propane is cheap, available every where, stable, long lasting (shelf life), and very efficient. I bought it because it puts out an incredible amount of BTUs.

What went wrong:

I read the manual before using it. After reading the setup and operating instructions, it explains in detail conditions of unsafe operation. It states that the flame inside should be mostly blue with very little yellow. It states there should be NO FLAMES exiting the unit. It states that if any of these conditions are experienced, to shut off the gas supply and heater, and call a service center immediately.

When I turned on the unit, I immediately got an intense jet-like after-burner of a flame that was about 1" of blue and 8" of yellow. The flame reached the top of the unit and began to bow and bubble the top metal piece. The flame was so intense and strong that it began to wick out of the unit and above it. Uh-oh. I was really freaked out. Like fearing for my life and home freaked out.

So I did as the manual stated. And 3 days later I was able to speak with a 'human' (I use that term loosely).

The first two days I called (during hours), I sat on hold for 45 minutes. Then I gave up. I mean really, 45 minutes?? Whats wrong with this place? Do they have THAT many support calls? Is there anyone home? Can they not afford to pay enough agents to take calls? What happened to this company?

So on day 2 I chose the option to get a call back. It took 6 attempts before this option work, before the system assured me I would be called back when my turn came up. No call back.

I called the 3rd day, went through the same experience. Hold for 45 minutes, multiple attempts at getting the call-back system to work. No call back after hours of waiting. So I called back and chose sales. Someone in sales answered fairly quickly (so they like to sell but can't support??), I explained the problem I was having with their phone system, and she said she would transfer me back into the queue at highest priority and I would be the next call answered. 45 minutes later I hung up.

Fast forward eventually someone called me. However, it was like talking to a wall. Or zombie. In fact, I'd rather talk to my dog. At least he smiles at me. This guy sounded like he was asleep. He did not laugh. I was overly cheery and happy to talk to him. I think he hated his job. Or was at a funeral. I'm sorry, he was just so lifeless. I felt like he HATED me for calling.

Long story short, the agent told me he "didn't know why the manual says that, it sounds like its operating fine". I said what about the yellow flame, its suppose to be blue? I said what about the warping metal top? I said what about the flames coming out of it? His answer: "that sounds normal".

So I called Amazon, explained the problem with the product, the company, and my fears; and Amazon happily sent me a second unit to try out within 2 days (my choice). The second unit had the same problem. I call it a problem because the manual does. In the end Amazons excellent Customer Service took care of me, and took both of the units back at their expense. I will be looking for a new propane heater.

I hope you have better luck then me; but honestly I cannot recommend this unit to anyone because I would hate to see someone injured in the process; or loose their home and valuables. Its just not worth the risk, and the manufacturer just couldn't come trough. I personally value my home, my life, my family, and my children more than this this unit just isn't worth the risk.

This is a great heat generator, and sounds like a jet when running full blast. I love it, but when I use it on the covered patio of a party people think it is too loud. For working around it is good, but for a party situtation I wish I had found one of the short unbrella style heaters instead, the radiat the heat down better and are not loud.

Honest reviews on Mr. Heater 80,000 BTU Propane Convection Heater #MH80CV

I bought this as a supplement to a kerosene jet heater that I also use in my garage. I use the jet for quick heat up in the winter, but the down side is the fumes and lack of thermostat. This (Mr. Heater) heater is great if you are going to be working around it because it's cleaner burning and collapses for storage. It puts off a little bit of black ash if you burn it too low, but turn it up and it goes away.

I don't work for Mr. Heater, but I do work at a propane company. I've read some reviews of some issues with the flame in the heater. These issues may be caused by propane liquid getting into the hose instead of vapor. This is a problem because propane devices are designed to burn propane gas, not liquid, when you get liquid going through, it burns like a fast burning napalm. Napalm is bad. It also burns much hotter (thus the warping lid). This can be caused by a few things. Most commonly would be extreme cold temperatures. Pure Propane does well at cold temperatures but turns to liquid around -45 degrees, however, because what is in your tank is not pure propane (other things get in there too, no way to avoid that) the other gases cause it to liquefy at warmer temps. Most domestic sale propane liquefies between -20 and -27 degrees Fahrenheit. Another cause could be an over-pressurized tank. Too much pressure could cause the tank to contain more liquid than it's supposed to. A third cause would be the simplest fix: the tank is upside-down or on it's side, this could cause whatever liquid IS in the tank to come out first.

I hope this helps someone!

I had a little heater fan from DeLonghi (DFH132), and it was fine but a little weak. I tried out a few heater fans from Honeywell (HFH5555 [worked, but blew a fuse] and HEH8001-U [worked but more fan than heater]) but ended up returning them.

This little heater puts out a good bit of heat. It's sitting behind me right now, in the same spot the heater fan used to occupy, and it puts out much more heat. It's also about twice as loud, but that doesn't bother me. The grille on the front gets hot, but I haven't left my hand on it long enough to see if it will burn me. I can make only so many sacrifices for Amazon reviews...

Quite happy with this item.

I gave this heater 4 stars. Let me explain....

First, to be realistic about my pros and cons, I know I wasn't getting a top of the line model being that this heater was under thirty bucks. I only needed this to provide a little warmth boost in my 1-year old sons 14' x 12' room.

Pros:

-Pushes a lot of heat for being so small This was surprising. I have to keep the temp turned only about 1/3 of the way up with the lowest fan setting or else my son's room turns into a sauna.

-Very nice size it's not tiny, but it fits nicely on my son's chest of drawers along with an alarm clock and piggy bank.

-1 fan, 2 heat options there is a fan option(no heat), a low and high heat setting. I use the low and imagine that the high setting would push qhite a bit of heat.

-Thermostat very nice option for what I use it for, once you get it right (see cons). I keep it up about 1/3 of the way and it keeps the room at a semi-constant temp.

-Stays cool to the touch on perimeter if you put your hand directly in front of the heating element, it's hot (duh), the rest of it stays nice and cool. This was a major concern for me since it stays in a childs room and space heaters having such a bad safety rep.

-Sturdy I originally had it on the floor and moved it up on a dresser. Neither place was I afraid that it would tip over on it's own

-Overheat switch It's an option, but I gladly haven't had to see if it works

Cons:

-Slightly noisier than expected I expected a little noise since it is a little heater but this small fans puts out quite a bit of noise. It's not loud enough to wake my son when it kicks on during the night, but it is loud enough where I had to relocate the baby monitor because it was driving my wife and me crazy.

-Thermostat this was a pro for having the option alone. The con is that it took me about a week to get it to maintain an even temp exactly where I wanted it. One time it would be too hot, I make an adjustment, then too cold, repeat about 15 times, and it's just right.

If I could give 4 1/2 stars I would. My pros are definite pros, but the cons may be a little petty given the product. I think for a few more dollars DeLonghi could put in a digital thermostat and maybe a slighly quieter fan.

Overall, I highly recommend this.

My wife and I bought 2 of these to give our utility budget a break this winter.

This heater puts out alot of heat. The On/Off/Heat Settings switch, along with the Thermostat switch, feel very solid for a ceramic heater this inexpensive. It has a handle so it's easily transportable. Power light goes off when the unit is turned off (unlike others in this price range). Can be turned off (Some other similarly priced heaters need to have you pull the plug for the heater to go off). If it gets too hot, it will shut itself off (Safety feature). It's not whisper quiet but it is certainly not overly loud, as some others have complained. It also has an anti-freeze setting, if that is why you need it.

For the money, I can't see how you can get a better deal on a ceramic heater. I checked out all the similarly priced ceramic heaters here on Amazon, and quite frankly the combination of features, efficient ceramic heating element, solid design and inexpensive price make this a "no-brainer" as far as inexpensive ceramic heaters go. Get 2 and give the gift of ceramic heating efficiency this Christmas. OOPS, politically incorrect. TOO BAD!!!

I am living Iowa city, and the weather is getting colder and colder. So, I bought this small heater to get extra heat for my bedroom. It actually runs very loud, which is quite annoying for me. Moreover, I don't believe the "thermostat" works at all. The manual delusively says that the "thermostat" can be used to maintain the temperature. It is not true. I have to turn it on and off manually... However, it is cheap. For that reason, we probably should not have high expectation.

The manufacturer proudly states that this heater will run on diesel fuel as well as on kersosene. However, in using #2 diesel fuel the heater belched out enough flames and fumes to simulate tear gas. According to the red tag attached to the heater, fuel changes may require "air pressure adjustments" to the heater. The reader is referred to the operating manual. Fair enough -So I read the section on "adjusting pump pressure" on page E-4.

The manual, however, talks about the "fuel pressure adjustment screw." To add to the confusion, the manual identifies ref. #29 on the exploded view parts diagram as the fuel adjustment screw. However, it is not even close. When I finally found the adjustment screw, it was somewhere else and it was labeled "output filter."

Until the trial and error process was completed, this unit spewed out enough crap to cause the CO2 detector in an open garage to go off repeatedly. (Hey, Consumer Products Safety Commission, are you listening?) Not only that, but it would only run for 2 to 3 minutes at a time before overheating and shutting down. There was another nearby adjustment screw which is not even mentioned in the manual; I can only guess that it also has something to do with the fuel mixture and/or pressure.

After several frustrating hours of tinkering, I finally got the damn thing dialed in and working. The user's manual was of little to no help. They talk about components which are not found on this model, and use a parts diagram which is not altogether consistent with this model. In order for this type of heater to work right, it is imperative that the air nozzle settings be adjusted correctly. Maybe, just maybe, it would be helpful to include clear and concise directions and diagrams for that purpose.

The folks at Mr. Heater, Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio need to take a closer look at what's going on at their manufacturing facility at the Kung Pao Chicken Factory and Machine Shop in China.

Bought this after a lot of reasearch; I have an un-heated un-insulated garage in Chicago area to work on my race-car. Needed to do a lot of maintenance this off season and the heater is certainly helping me work comfortably. I can get the temps in the garage to 58-65 when then outside temp are around 10-30.

Quieter than my old Craftsman. Burns Kero. and Diesel. Problem with a cracked fuel hose after a year was traced to faulty batch of hose. Customer Service (The real people at the manufacturer in Cleveland) were helpful in resolving the problem although i had already replaced the hose. Also has on/off switch unlike my old Craftsman. The free shipping made this a fantastic deal.

I bought this to heat my woodshop in my 900 sq/ft basement. I make sure I have some ventilation. It works great. I also bought the thermostat which I haven't tried yet but I will post a review when I try it out. I don't know how it works under heavy use (construction environment) but it works great for what I need it for.

Seams are a little sloopy, and the fit is extremily tight. I have a 7.25" hat size and I hear seams tearing a bit when I struggle to put the face mask on. I would have given it 4 stars if it wasnt for this.

This rack was easy to put together. I would recommend that your logs are cut long enough to fit on the rack. Ours were cut to short and we had to use a peice of plywood on the bottom to support the logs. Good product. Hghly recommend.
