Cheap The Original SUNHEAT Electronic Infrared Zone Heater, Golden Oak

The Original SUNHEAT Electronic Infrared Zone Heater, Golden Oak

I knew exactly what I was buying when I purchased the Sunheat earlier this year and it does the job well. I needed a large-room electric zone heater for a small (450 sq ft) finished area for my basement. I live in Maine (very cold winters), but my well-insulated basement temperature stays fairly constant year round. I tried a few smaller space heaters and electric baseboard units prior to the Sunheat, but I found they simply didn't heat the space evenly or quickly enough. The Sunheat heats the space very well -comfortable and quick. The noise from the fan isn't even that loud. I can have the unit on next to the couch while I watch TV and it is a non-factor.

Also, it is important to note I do not run the unit 24/7 nor do I rely on the on-board temperature gauge to regulate the heat in the room. Instead, I plug the Sunheat into a Lux WIN100 Heating & Cooling Programmable Outlet Thermostat Heating & Cooling Programmable Outlet Thermostat (which can be bought from Amazon for $30), and it basically turns my basement into a separate heat zone of the house. I can program when the heating unit comes and and what temp I want the room at based on when I use the space, just like I do on the other programmable thermostats in my house. I leave the Sunheat switched on and on the high temp setting, but it only comes on when my separate thermostat tells it to. A big reason that I bought a Sunheat 1500 is because it has a non-digital on-off switch, which is only thing that is compatible with this type of thermostat. The Duraflame (which is the top rated unit on Consumer Reports) and others will not work with a separate programmable thermostat because when they are plugged in, they require a person to actually turn them on by pushing a digital button. The Sunheat has a manual switch, which is exactly what I needed.

The rest of my house is on oil heat. I priced out adding a heating zone with forced hot water baseboards through my oil furnace in the basement, and installation alone was $1500-$1700, plus the cost of the oil heat. For around $275 I can accomplish the same with the Sunheat and outlet thermostat. I cannot say exactly how much my electric bill went up from using the Sunheat because it can be common for my bill to fluctuate $10-$20 each month yearround depending on other variables. I haven't seen an noticeable increase since I started using the Sunheat so that tells me it likely increases my electric bill around $10 monthly.

Again, I knew exactly what I needed when I bought the Sunheat and it does the job well.

I have tried many other heaters and this one is the cadillac of all heaters. Heater is rock solid and cranks out heat. It has a made in the USA wood case and is on wheels. The heater on off switch is located at the front top. Nothing on this heater gets hot.....very safe for pets and kids. 5 year warranty! A little more expensive then some heaters but worth every penny. Ignore the morons that claim all heaters are the same. I have had 1500 watt plastic junk heaters from walmart.....huge difference! A strong wind will blow the cheapies over or can get knocked over by a pet......Sunheat would take a hurricane to topple it.

You pay a lot more for a Mercedes then you do a Yugo for a reason.....I wonder if the same morons think the Mercedes is just the same as a Yugo and not worth the extra dollars??!! Buy this heater......best on the market!

Bought this when my Delonghi heater finally crapped out. It's a nice unit, does the job (so far) of adding a little comfort to my unheated basement. Have only had it for half of one heating season, so we'll see how it pans out next year.

Summary: A real time saver for cleaning the numerous spills stains and messes from kids and pets. Semi-Automatically (see details) cleans vomit and other unpleasant messes.

We have 3 kids (ages 2, 4 and 7) and 2 cats. One of our cats (Pukey cat, AKA Natasha) is a Siamese and vomits regularly. Our youngest is potty trained but still doesn't fully comprehend the concept of wiping one's behind on toilet paper. Need I say more? We're using this thing perhaps three times a week.

This device is a bit larger than you'd expect. At approx 8"x16"x16 it's about as big as a small canister vacuum.

It cleans an 8" circle with each cycle. This is typically good enough, when a mess is just larger, I find that it's easier to use the hand attachment (which also has a sprayer) to clean the "outlier" than to run another cycle. With a fresh pot of cleaning solution and an empty collector, it will run 4 cycles. Although it has a "Surface stain" and a "Set-in Stain" cycles, I have yet to find an organic stain (Vomit and stuff from the other end) that needed the "Set-in stain" cycle (which scrubs for six minutes instead of three.) We're pretty good at keeping food on the tile and hardwood floors so far.

The carpet we've used it on are the very short berber (Basement) ~3/8" and 1/" nylon carpet, all light colored / off white. One is a "twist" carpet, the other a pretty standard style

Here are some tips for using it:

1) Use warm water to help soften dried on stains. This one doesn't have an automatic heater (there is a model that does)

2) Don't feel like you need a lot of cleaning solution. The warm water gets out most organic stains on the first try.

3) After each cycle the circle is pretty wet. Use the hand hose to suck out the excess water.

4) Rotate the upper cord stowage hook to quickly remove the cord all at once.

5) Be careful where you put it when you're done you're supposed to be able to leave water in the (clean) water tank and it's not supposed to leak but we have found that occasionally it will drip or leave a few tablespoons of water on the floor. Some of this is probably residual water in the hoses. We wouldn't want to leave it on a hardwood floor where this might be an issue.

A couple of minor complaints:

1) The hand attachment isn't the easiest to remove and re-attach. It would be nicer if the button was larger.

2) The cleaning solution tank is no terribly stable. Be careful not to tip it over before putting the cap on Don't ask me how I know this.

3) The unit is pretty big and storage is always tight

4) Despite the "Microban" the hose still gets a moldy/mildewy layer of crud super nasty. We run a pint of hot water with a little bleach through once a month. Run it through 3-4 times while vigourously shaking the hose and it breaks all that crud off. Then rinse.

I received this through the Amazon Vine program, if you found this review helpful or have questions or comments, please let me know!

As a dog breeder, I needed something to pickup the occasional "oops" on the floor. I had originally had a Little Green Spot Machine. I didn't like that you had to use the hand brush, but I REALLY objected to the fact that when you cleaned organic messes, it stunk so bad you couldn't have it in the house with you, no matter what you did (baking soda) etc.

Bissell finally got it right! The dirty water tank is treated with microbicide--stops that awful smell--and I believe the formulas have some special fresheners in them, because there is not any kind of a smell anymore. Hooray!

I also had a couple of spots of "carpet of horror" near my desk--red wine, chocolate and coffee, cigarette ashes and probably a dog mark too, all together--since the dogs would go up into my desk chair and try to have a "drink" of whatever I had. Clean on the first try! My goodness.

I purchased a Bissell Spot Bot last month and I have two cats and a puppy and we are using the spot bot 2-3 times a week. I love it and it really works, on set-in stains and surface stains. Yes, it leaves "crop circles" in your carpet, but if you use the hose after you clean the spot you can pick up more water and you can also brush the carpet so you can't see the circles anymore. If you are doing large areas or more than 4 spots you may get tired or adding and empty the water. For the 3 minute cycles you can do about 4-5 before you have to empty and add new water.

Honest reviews on BISSELL Spotbot Pet Handsfree Spot and Stain Cleaner with Deep

We have had a SpotBot for years and just replaced it with this newer model. Apparently this is the new, redesigned model of the previous model, which Amazon now says is not available. In some ways, we like the older model better The new "C" shaped formula container is harder to handle and holds less liquid. But this device is a real time and money saver. We have two Boxers and they are pretty well housetrained, but occasionally we have problems unexpected vomiting here, an overnight diarrhea there and you are looking at significant carpet cleaning bills, even if you go through the inconvenience of renting a machine at the grocery store. With SpotBot, the problem is solved in less than 5 minutes (10 if you have to mix up the formula). For "just happened" surface stains, the Bissell Pet Formula seems to work OK, but the 2-formula, OxyGen2-based mixture seems to work better for set in stains that somehow missed your detection for a day or two (on the back side of the dining room table, for example). Pick up any solids with paper towels (which we put in a Ziplock bag before we throw in the trash, to avoid odors) and put the SpotBot to use and like magic, your carpet generally looks like new. A stubborn stain might take a back-to-back second application. My wife loves this machine and would not be without it as long as we have dogs. When you need it, you really NEED it! One last tip: Shop around locally for the SpotBot. We found it on sale in a local big box store for half of the price being asked here!! Sorry, Amazon!

I'd give this 4 or 5 stars. I was hesitant when I read some of the other reviews, but have been please so far.

I bought this because I have a toddler and a dog and until just recently a sick cat.

Based on some of the negative reviews that I read, I will address how I handled the things I took as warnings:

1It does make a clean spot if your carpet is kind of dirty. I live in a rental, so am not going to super clean their carpets, but I prefer light spots over puke spots.

2Clean up the chunks with a rag or paper towel before using the vacuum and 'spreading' it around. If you do the cleaning you can do by hand, it doesn't spread it around like another reviewer complained.

3After using, I run clean water through the hose and wash out the attachment if I used it. I also empty the dirty reservoir and rinse out several times after each use. It hasn't had any odor like another reviewer complained. I also found that the bottom that the dirty reservoir sits on can use a wipe to dry it and remove any dirty stinky water.

4I did find that the carpet was pretty wet after the automatic cycle, so I use the hose attachment to vacuum up the excess.

The tank does fill up after 5 or so basic cycles. The only thing that annoys me about it is that it keeps beeping after it finishes, forcing you to go push the off button. I guess this is good, because then I don't go to bed leaving the stinky water int he dirty reservoir.

Dyson Air Multiplier Table Fan, 10 Inches, Blue Reviews

I picked up this beauty at a local Bed Bath (discounted floor model) for $240 and was really excited to bring it home to replace my vintage aluminum fan that is so painfully hard to clean.

Once I set it up and ran it in my bedroom, I was really disappointed in the noise it made. I didn't notice the high-pitch "whirrrr" in the store, most likely because of all the surrounding ambient noise, but when focused in my bedroom, this high-pitched "hair dryer" tone was very off-putting. When stepping out of my bedroom, that high-pitch carries into the rest of my apartment, and becomes quite grating.

This is a deal-breaker for me. It's not so much the volume of sound, but the pitch/tone of the sound. Even on it's lowest setting, this high-pitched tone does NOT promote relaxation and calm, it is irritating and very difficult for me to sleep to. When the output dial is turned up, the pitch becomes higher and the overall volume becomes really loud, so loud it becomes almost impossible to tune out unless I crank the stereo or t.v. up. The sound is like a mini jet engine. Cute, but not practical for sonic well-being.

It's a shame, because the design is amazing, the materials are really nice, the build quality is very solid. I love the ease of use, the buttons are simple, functional, fun to interact with.

In form it's fabulous, in function, it's a fiasco. Dyson seriously needs to consider the aural effects of the high-pitched tone this product emits. Hopefully future models will address this issue, until then, I'm giving my ears a break and returning this noisy lovely thing.

This fan is no air multiplier. See all those holes around the base of the fan? Those are the air inlets for the blower which they've thoughtfully hidden in the base. You can't get something for nothing and that includes air.

Compared with a clip-on 6" fan, this fan is a waste of both money and space. That little clip-on costs $20 and moves 190 cubic feet per minute. The Dyson moves 40 cubic feet per minute (or as Dyson specifies: 5 gallons per second). Comparably sized tabletop fans move over a thousand cubic feet per minute.

Don't be fooled by the store displays. Those streamers are placed around the edge for a reason that's the only place where the air is moving! Stand a few feet away from this fan and you will literally feel nothing.

Meanwhile, it's loud. That little 6" fan produces 37 decibels of sound. The Dyson is closer to 50. That's more than twice as loud (decibels are a log scale, every 10 is a doubling).

It's intriguing that some are so taken with this fan. It would have some benefits. It won't muss your hair, and it's unlikely to ruffle your papers. But let's be real this is a fan, not a vase of flowers.

Buy this fan only if you prioritize owning a statement piece over owning a functioning fan.

I own this Dyson fan no doubt it will end up in the Museum of Modern Art. It is a beauty but the noise is terrible. I just wonder at the great effort to design this unit but to forget the most important part of the fan. Anyone I show it to immediately remarks on the noise. I kept it on its beauty alone.

Honest reviews on Dyson Air Multiplier Table Fan, 10 Inches, Blue

I have one of these on my desk at work set on a low setting creating a delightfully gentle breeze. I'm using it to improve the efficiency of the air-conditioning distribution. It is completely silent in the manner I operate it.

On higher speed settings this device does get noisy but to be honest no noisier than a comparably sized traditional fan.

Some of the comments left by others point to confusion over what this device is. This is not a bladeless fan. Instead it's a fan where there's no visible blade. The device works by using a small fan internal to the mechanism to create movement over the airfoil shaped hoop and that air movement creates suction that brings a far greater volume of air through the hoop than the internal fan creates itself. Dyson don't call this a fan, they call it an air multiplier; and that's exactly what it is.

This device is very elegant in its design and it works as advertised. This is not a replacement for a big or noisy fan that can move a huge volume of air this is a device for moving a small amount of air in manner that's pleasant to experience.

If you need to move a massive amount of air around a large area then you'll need a traditional fan. If you want spot cooling and the outrageous price is acceptable then this is a well suited device.

A hotel I stayed at recently had one of these in the room. I normally sleep with a ceiling fan or floor fan running, so when I entered the room and saw this, I thought it'd be perfect. Not so.

First, let's address why you probably are looking at this fan -it doesn't look like anything else out there. Very slick. It's not exactly tiny, but it has an attractive modern design that makes it more acceptable to have out than a traditional fan. It certainly shows what happens when you get some creative types to develop products. We could use more style-conscious designs in everyday items.

BUT, it's noisy, very much so compared to the volume of air it puts out. The noise it makes is a hum + air moving, but rather higher-pitched compared to most fans. I found it to be more intrusive than the Vornado fans I have around the house. Not quite as obnoxious as a hair dryer, but similar in sound, just quieter. If Dyson had used a larger base, they could have used a larger fan that wouldn't have made as much noise. Or a squirrel-cage blower which would have been nearly silent.

It doesn't put out much air. While I didn't have another fan at the hotel to compare it with, an equivalent-size Vornado puts out as much air on low as the Dyson puts out on high, but with far less noise. I barely felt the Dyson all the way across the room. Heard it clearly though. Vornado fans actually use an "air multiplying" design, but they use it to feed air into the fan blades rather than the output. Not exactly a new idea here.

The toughest obstacle is the price. This price is completely out of line. The build quality of this fan isn't anywhere near worth what they're asking for it. Entirely made of plastic. Couldn't cost more than twenty bucks to make this in China. It feels like it'd break/crack if got tipped over and landed on a hard surface. I also question the longevity of this fan. Larger, lower RPM motors generally last longer. This fan has a very small motor that runs at high RPMs to move enough air for it to work. Similarly, the air intake on the base of the fan uses very small holes. I'd imagine these would clog easily, putting even more strain on the motor. I have Vornado fans which have been going non-stop for about 10 years now. I don't see this fan lasting that long.

Overall, slick appearance and unusual thinking, but falls short -WAY short when you consider the price. Quite a shame. At 10-20% of their asking price, these would be a good buy. At that point you could forgive the poor performance for the slick aesthetics. Until then I'll gladly keep using the Vornado fans I've been using for the past 10 years.

I will start by saying that finally, after installing two of these units in my 1500 sf workshop, I am very happy with them. They cool and heat very efficiently and quietly and there are not many units on the market which have the power and features of this one.

However, it was a long road getting to the happy point I am at now. I initially ordered two of these from Amazon, and they arrived quickly but both turned out to have been damaged in shipping. This is partially the truckers fault but a good deal of the blame must be laid on the manufacturer who does not package this model with sufficient protection to withstand the typical abuse which cartons endure in truck freight. There is is only about 1/2" of styrofoam between the front and top of the unit and the inside of the carton, and no crush space whatsoever. So both units arrived with bent case frames and one also had a cracked front grill piece and bent interior pieces.

Amazon offered to replace them but were out of stock so after some discussion I agreed to keep the least damaged one (I was able to bend the case back into shape) of the two for a discount, ship back the other for a refund, and order a third unit from TheFactoryDepot, one of amazon's resellers.

Well, guess what? The third unit arrived damaged in shipping as well. After much more discussion, this time with TheFactoryDepot, they agreed to allow me to go pick up a replacement at their warehouse which was luckily only about 30 minutes from my home. This unit was undamaged and so I installed that one as well.

We weren't through with our troubles though because the 2nd unit I installed (the one we picked up at the warehouse) soon started displaying a trouble code on the panel and stopped cooling. So we had to call Frididaire to have it serviced under warranty. There 3rd party service company came to the house and repaired it but they had to order a part so this took about another 10 days. Finally, about 6 or 8 weeks after our initial order, we had two working units installed and they have been cooling and heating nicely for the past 2 to 3 months. The remote is great it has all the controls to change modes, and control heating, cooling, thermostat, fan speed, energy saver, timer, etc. This is important to me because my units are installed 7 feet from the floor (to the bottom of the unit), and I have never needed to actually get up on a ladder to fiddle with the front panel once you get the airflow louvers pointed the way you want there is no need for that.

I wouldn't recommend this model at all if there were a lot of alternatives, mainly because of the poor packaging, but if you need a heating+cooling unit this size and you are prepared to potentially deal with returns and repairs then this is the unit for you. I don't say that entirely facetiously once we got all the startup problems solved these are very nice units. If you can find it locally or can pick it up from a warehouse I strongly recommend that as the packaging is very poor. That's the main reason I didn't give 5 stars.

This is exactly what we wanted. The unit is efficeint,(it does an excellent job cooling, I have not tried the heating part yet) It runs very quiet. And the unit was shipped extremely fast. Amazon is the greatest!! I will definitely buy from Amazon again.

Works better than flowers to keep your wife happy. Warm when it's cool and cool when it's warm. It's also a very well made piece of equipment that's easy to use. Made us both happy.

Honest reviews on Frigidaire FRA18EMU2 18,500 BTU Window-Mounted Median Air

Love the way this unit works. Really cools the garage quickly after pulling a vehicle in that has been in the hot sun or on the road all day. Love the way the blower runs only at the speed needed to do the job then slows down and shuts off when the set temperature is reached using the econ mode. This should really be a money saver compared to my 20 year old unit that (blower motor ran all the time) gave up the ghost after a lightening strike.

It seems to have a tendency to short cycle but does not seem to hurt it. Doing some research on this issue now.

Would buy another one.

Shipping took a little longer than advertised but was not an AMAZON problem. Trucking company called and advised their truck had broken down and was in for repair.

Started it up and it vibrated. Opened up cover and found that the fan blade was unbalanced. Had to return.

UPDATE

The new replacement came in and installed. No vibration on fan but compressor on the air side or the heat pump side would never start. Ran voltage checks to board and all was ok. Shipping it back. The coil and compressor all look solid but the electronics are really cheap. Stay Away.

Ordered this for my wife for Christmas. She always wanted a fireplace in our bedroom and this was the way to go. I was excited...the package arrived before Christmas as promised and voila! No fireplace. The item came with just the mantle. The mantle is well made and fairly easy to assemble. As I unpacked the box I assumed the heater would be in the box. Nope. Nada. Zilch. I called Amazon and they were great in helping me resolve the problem. According to them, the item was under review, so hopefully it is fixed and the heater is included.

What threw me off was the BTU's given in the description...not too many mantles I know of have BTU's unless the heater is included! The item shipped was the mantle only and no electric fireplace. Hopefully Amazon found the heaters!

I too only received the mantle the first time I ordered. I called Amazon and told them that the firebox was missing and that there had to be 2 boxes because all of the order would not fit in one. They sent me another one and it did come with the firebox. I have it in my bedroom and it looks very nice. It has 3 levels of flame and 5 levels of heat on thermostat. They also work independently of each other and that was very important to me. I found this at other stores for much more money plus tax and shipping so it's a really good deal if they can get the order right.

Mantle looks nice and as described with easy assembly.

However, I believe the item description is wrong. Firebox is not included with this item. I ordered 3 different times after not receiving the firebox and each time a new one was sent all you get is the mantle and not the firebox/heater. I even had one shipped from manufacture and no firebox. I believe there should be two boxes as part of this delivery or the item description is wrong and you are only getting a mantle.

The product did not meet my expectations. First, the exhaust fan noise is not much quieter than the one I replaced. I figured that the original was probably a commercial contractor "special" and that a rating of 2.0 sones should be quieter. I have another bathroom that still has the "special" fan and I don't notice much difference. The heater stopped working within a month. It heated a small 7'x'6' shower area and that's about it. The directional heat can be directed every angle in a circle (360 degrees) except straight down. Directing the heat flow towards my towel made mine "roasty-toasty" but not my wife's. Oh well, her loss

My fiancee says it was really easy to cut. He said he laid an old filter on top of the new one, to get started. He then put the frame together (adjusted it to the appropriate notches indicated on the frame), and then, before cutting anything, slid it into the furnace slot to test it. Once he was *sure* he had the frame to the right size, then he measured (against that frame) and cut the cross-hatch part, and then he measured (against the frame) and cut the guts (filtering part). measure twice, cut once

We don't have animals or an old house and we keep our home generally clean, and this filter seems to work great. With the climate where we live being either extremely cold or extremely hot and humid and the air quality and cleanliness outside being questionable, we run our whole-house HVAC often. This filter states a good rating (MERV 8) and a 5-year lifespan. According to an interesting furnace filter care site I found via google, MERV runs from 1-16, with ratings of 5-8 considered "better" filters. Of course, a filter is only as good as its maintenance (ease of which and therefore, consistency of which) and we find it makes more sense to clean this filter than to continually "invest" in throw-away ones, which need to be disposed of and replaced, at a cost. The "care"/cleaning of this filter is fairly easy. To clean, he chooses a day when we aren't running the furnace or a/c (same filter). He takes the filter outside, sprays each side with water from the hose and shakes it off. He has also sprayed it with thyme-based disinfectant (seventh generation makes a nice one). After waiting a few minutes for max effectiveness, he hoses the filter off again. He then lays the filter in the sun, both to dry and because UV rays kill some bacteria. Someone told me this a while ago and then I found air and water purifiers and surface sanitizers here on amazon that use UV light, and I even have a little travel UV light for hotel rooms (remotes, doorknobs, etc.). I just googled "UV rays kill bacteria" and found an interesting ehow article on it.

Once it is clean and dry, sometimes, he's lightly misted the filter with essential oils (tea tree, eucalyptus, lavender, etc.), and allowed it to air dry for a minute before putting it back in. Then, when our furnace/AC runs, it blows beneficial vapors of Essential Oils throughout the house, helping to cleanse the air and uplift the spirits :) If you choose to do this, please do your due diligence on essential oils, their properties, contraindications, and usage (especially if you're pregnant, have epilepsy, high blood pressure, or are otherwise sensitive or considered physically at risk). And, always buy pure essential oils and not "perfume" or "fragrance" oils, which may have unhealthy additives. Pure EO's may cost a little more, but a few drops of pure essential oil goes a long way. I just googled "essential oil spray recipes" and found an interesting article on food dot com. You can just use a few drops of one essential oil in a reused (thoroughly washed) glass spray bottle with some distilled water, and keep the spray for room freshening purposes. I travel with a spray bottle for long car trips or hotel stays. If you: care enough about the air in your home, are looking for eco products, or are looking to save money, to buy this sort of a filter, then you might also be interested in these additional ways to "freshen" the air, wherever you are!

Another tip: if you have the money and so desire, buy two of these filters. That way, if there is a time when you cannot stop running your furnace long enough, or don't want to go outside, (blizzard conditions, extended heat wave, etc.) or don't have a utility sink, you can keep a fresh one on hand and pop it in and clean the other one when you can (storing it in a reused plastic bag, of course).

PROS:

reusable (save $, resources, trips to the store, & no having to store replacements)

5-year lifespan (limited lifetime guarantee)

easy to assemble

easy to clean

made from recycled plastic

recyclable

MERV 8 (filters out pollen, dust, & dander, as per them)

could potentially put your own filter media (guts) into the frame, for customized filtering

ability to add EO's without causing saturation, as with a paper-based filter

CONS:

assembly required (albeit easy)

cleaning required (again, easy)

not a carbon filter (personal preference, it's also not a BMW, haha)

I rely on reviews here at Amazon to help me make informed buying choices. I hope this review has helped you in the same manner. If you voted this as helpful, I Thank You! :)

Like most of you, I went searching for a cheaper and more environmentally friendly solution to replacement furnace filters. I have always kept my old filters around for a few months after usage just to monitor the dirt collection. I installed this easily without any cutting. At the end of month one, I placed it in the tub to see what had been collected and I watched the water coming off the filter. What I saw was that the water looked much too clear considering what I had been picking up in the past. Months two and three looked the same with no noticeable dirt in the tub. There seemed to a great deal of dust on the furniture all the sudden, yet another indication these were not doing their job. I went back to try my filtrete micron filters for a month which I used to change every 2 to 3 months and found the filter completely filthy at the end of that month. As I said, these are typically 3 month filters. I also recently had my furnace serviced and the repairman told me not to use these eco filters as they don't filter anything and end up clogging the system because all the dirt accumulates at the bottom of the furnace. I normally don't believe everything I'm told, however this time I had real proof.

First, the facts: the census estimate for # of U.S. households in 2010 was 114,825,428 (interpolate upwards as this review was written in 2012).

Conservative assumptions...

Assume: 66% have central air/heat

Assume: 2.5 air intakes/home

Assume: $5/filter

Assume: 4 filter changes/year

With these low-ball assumptions, we are talking a $3.8 BILLION a year in "subscription fees" for the replacement filter industry. Do you honestly think that the one-star reviews here were made by anyone other than agents of this racket? Caveat Emptor.

That said, I HAVE used these filters for over a decade, and here is my opinion.

PROs

1. They do an excellent job of filtering. Not as good as the high-end* HEPA filters, but they do get the grime, smoke, dust, pollen, hair out of the air that is circulating through your house.

2. On a cost-basis, it's a no-brainer. Within a year of installing these, they will have paid for themselves.

3. Environmentally, much, much less waste. Imagine the sheer amount of landfill waste used up by disposable filters. Not that I'm any sort of tree-hugger; rather, I'm a conservative who actually likes to conserve.

CONs

1. They can be a pain to assemble. You will need some powerful scissors/plier-cutters to cut the grid down to the size of your filter boxes. Expect about a half-hour of work per filter.

2. Cleaning is work. Either in the tub with a faucet-hose, or in your yard with the garden-hose, you'll need to give these things a good amount of blasting to get all the filth out. For this, about 15 minutes per filter.

Conclusion

If you lead a busy life and don't want the hassle of doing something like this on your own, then by all means: sign yourself up for the lifetime subscription to the filter industry. For the rest of us, this is an excellent way to save money and conserve.

Hope this helps!

* Amazingly, the high-end HEPA filters have problems of their own:

1. Cost one disposable HEPA can cost as much as one of these re-usables. Unless you are running a clean-room, fabricating semiconductor chips, this is absolutely NUTS!

2. Air Handler Failure because the HEPA is not letting enough air through, it can cause your Air Handler to overwork. There is quite a bit of documentation on the danger of HEPA to your AC system just look it up on the web.

Honest reviews on WEB WPLUS Eco Filter Plus Adjustable Air Filter, 1-Pack

Recently got this as an alternative to the replaceable filters that you have to change out and throw away after 3 to 6 months. These filters work great and have a lifetime warranty. They filter as good if not better than the regular throw away filters and they help save the enviroment from waste too. The only thing that keeps it from 5 stars is the price. These are pricey as an initial purchase as compared to the throw aways but considering you should never have to replace it, it will make up for in time. Just make sure you clean them regularly.

Kind of hard to believe. My office is about 800 sq. feet. Using two baseboard heaters at max (which costs a fortune) I was still wearing gloves and a down North Face jacket at my desk. Plugged this baby in and the room went from 58 to 69 degrees in about 10 minutes. I have now turned off my baseboards. The whole room feels toasty warm. Wasn't expecting such instant gratification! Highly recommended.

I live in FL and will not get a lot of use from this but there are a few months of the year when it gets cold at night. This heater puts out a generous amount of heat and will keep you warm. It is loaded with features: High heat really heats up the room quick, low heat keeps a nice steady flow of warm air (which my boxer loves) and there is a high/low temperature setting that automatically turns the unit on/off. The remote is definitely a nice feature and the REALLY cool thing is the little hiding slot on the rear of the unit to store the remote. Can't go wrong here ....

This unit is everything I hoped for and more. The exterior is stylish, the thermostat and controls work perfectly, and most importantly, my wife likes it! We are not using this as a primary source of heat but I can tell you that our heat pump is turning on less frequently so I'm hoping the additional energy usage will be minimal.

Purchased portable A/C to replace window unit (eyesore). Easy to move romm to room and put away when not in use. We use it to assist our central A/C in the summer, when wife cooks (a lot) and as backup incase power goes out, we can hook it to portable generator. So far works great. Cools room quickly and is quiet. We have it in the room with TV and we do not have to turn volume up real loud. Does have the normal hum of any A/C. I will write back in a few months to update on performance and quality. We live in the south, so we run our A/C's in December.

almost year later. Still working great. use it constantly. we live in N.O. so we do not have long winters looking at possible purchasing a second one.

I have owned two similar units for 9 years with no issues. I wanted to get new models to replace the old ones. The first night, I tried to use the heating option, and the unit just blew frigid air from the back opening. I called Haier the next morning, and was told that, unlike the older models, the new units must be vented to the outside throughout the winter months in order for the heating option to work efficiently. The provided plastic window covering does not close off my entire opening. This would mean having to have an open window throughout winter months just to attempt to efficiently heat the room. This was never explained in the online product specs or in the user manual. SInce I returned the item because it was not what I needed (or "no longer wanted" I did not note any clearer reason option), and it was determined to not be the fault of Amazon, I must pay the $63.00+ (and the $6.00 pick-up fee) for having the unit in my home for just one night. I have learned that it is not advisable to purchase appliances online. If the item is not clearly described (so that you don't realize that you cannot use the item until after it arrives), you are penalized. April 10, 2013 FOLLOW-UP: Amazon agreed that the item was not accurately described by the manufacturer, and that the online and user manual specifications were misleading. Amazon has kindly refunded the total cost including shipping charges to me.

AC works great and just as advertised. I was really impressed with it and I made my decision based on the reviews that were posted. I just wanted to add that the window assembly was a bit troublesome but was not flimsey as I thought it would be from the other reviews. However when I attached the hose connector to the window panel and attached the four screws I was surprised that it fell apart. Then I realised that the instructions says to tighten the screws from the front. Once I took the assembly off the window and threaded the screws from the other side it worked like a charm, no duct tape needed or extra parts.Your reviews helped me, I hope this helps you. Great product!

It works well, cools the air quickly, even cools the air in the dehumidifier mode. It also self evaporates so you don't have to deal with draining it. However, be ware that unless you fall asleep easily in a noisy environment, this machine's compressor is as loud and noisy as you can imagine. When it is on you will feel like you are sleeping at a train or metro station when the train is coming in or out! That loud! If I can afford another at this time, I will definitely ditch it for something quieter. What's good is a portable AC if you can sleep in your bedroom while it is on?

I have used this little pot for three years. I wanted to have my own pot because I prefer to use single cup drip method for my own coffee rather than the various hotel coffee pots and packaged coffees. I have carried it overseas many times. It comes with two converter plug options, one for the U.S. I have had no problems using other converters for more countries. The company is very customer friendly and replaced the lid at no charge when I cracked it due to careless packing on my part.

I'm a tea drinker and I travel frequently. I always travel with my own tea and disposable cups so I only need to seek out hot water. Most hotels (and even Starbucks at the airports) will fill your cup with hot water for free (and to my surprise, some places will actually want to charge for hot water). My challenge is wanting hot water first thing in the morning or late at night in my hotel room without wanting to get dressed and seek it out, and NOT have to rely on the in-room coffee maker (who knows how or when those things are ever cleaned and what fluids have been run through them). My first stop when I travel is to pick up a case of bottled water ($4.00 per case or $6.00 for a single bottle in the hotel room no brainer), and this kettle is sized for a 16 oz bottle of water. It is small enough to put in your carry on, and light enough not to eat up that extra valuable pound for your checked luggage. I've traveled three times so far, used it about 25 times and it is just perfect. It boils the water quick, is maintenance free, and is easy to clean. What more could you ask for? I've seen this exact looking kettle for much more around the web. On my next trip, I will add some packs of instant oatmeal for those early morning calls (and who wants to pay twenty something dollars for a $6.00 breakfast delivered to your room). I love this product and will take this everywhere with me.

I read the review of this product and thought, this is just what I want, even though the other review was so negative. Well, it showed up in delivery yesterday and it is just what I was looking for.. it's a sturdy little pot and heats the water very quickly, and there is no plastic touching the waterstainless steel body. It has a "max" line to show where the pint marker is, but there is room for another cup or so in there. I think if you boiled it with the lid off, you would be okay, but it might not turn itself off, as it does when the lid is on and you stick to the "max" line. The cord is sturdy, and it is perfect for how I am going to use it,, in my little trailer, when I want a hot beverage and don't want to light up the propane stove. It would also be good for people who want boiling water, not just hot water like you get with a microwave. In a pinch, one could boil an egg or heat up soup in this, as long as you do so without the lid, and are careful cleaning out the pot without submerging the base in water. I hope it is as sturdy as it looks. Looks quality, feels quality,, I love it!

Hi, I was looking for a small kettle to make tea in my home. The size is perfect. Would be better if the base was detachable, but I can live with that.

I have not decided if I'm going to keep it though. I did 3 "test" runs boiling water as per the instruction booket. I made sure to not fill above the "max" line. The water boils fine, but there is a strong plastic odor and taste I'm assuming from the steam condensing on the plastic cover.

No other reviewers have mentioned this issue. So either I have a defective product, or have greater sensitivity to plastic-tasting/smelling water.

I'll try some more test-runs with the cover off as other posters said the kettle works without the cover, but the auto shut-off is disabled. I can handle watching the kettle for 3 minutes. We'll see....

Update:

Did a few test runs without the cover and decided to keep the little unit. There are no other small electric Kettle options available (that are not plastic). Boiling the water with the lid removed gives the results I need hot water with no plastic taste or smell.

Honest reviews on Bonavita Bona Voyage 0.5-Liter Electric Travel Kettle

I use this kettle every day at work and it's a key part of my travel coffee making kit. The kettle has a suggested max of 500ml, but if you dont mind a wet desk and some hot fingers you could get 800ml. The spout is pretty decent and as far as I can tell the kettle only has 2 flaws. The first is the plastic lid. Plastic is a no-no in water kettles and although this isnt as bad as a full plastic model like the Bodum, it still gives the water an awful paint smell and taste. I used it a couple times and noticed that if I stay in the recommended 500ml water level, the splash is pretty minimal and boils 500ml in about 3.30 minutes without it. Without the lid a Aeropress fits right inside. The second bummer is the cord is fixed to the unit. Wish it was detachable or at the very least some kind of internal storage. Would help for packing, but more for pouring the cord can get in the way if not careful. Especially in a hotel room where there rarely is a outlet where you want it and carrying boiling water with a cord dangling around isn't fun.

This kettle was just what I wanted in terms of size. It is not easy to find an electric half-liter kettle, so I was devastatede when the kettle stopped working this morning. That's after only 3 weeks of use, boiling water in it just once daily. Do not buy this product.

I would probably have given it a better rate but it is missing something that should be there which makes it not work with my fireplace heater. As far as the way it was packaged it was a rating of 5 I'm sure it works fine for one of the Amish Heaters just the wrong one for mine. thanks anyway. i also give it a 5 for the amount of time from the time I ordered it to the time I received it. I'll try and see if I can sell it.
