Discount CBTL LM-145P Milk Frother

CBTL LM-145P Milk Frother, Black
Customer Ratings: 3 stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a handy little milk frother/heater that works quickly and quietly. The latter quality was a surprise to me, as milk steamer are so noisy. It's really nice in the morning when the rest of the family is still asleep to be able to make a latte quietly. My one beef with it is that it doesn't hold very much only about 6-8 ounces so if you want a bigger drink than that, you have to froth/heat the milk twice. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to store.

I am completely loving this milk frother so far. It was a gift for my husband and I was a bit wary when I found this frother at Bed Bath and Beyond... (mine is black instead of white) I hadn't heard of the brand and almost returned it for one on amazon with more reviews... however, for the week we've had it, its been wonderful. You just pour in milk or half and half... I guess whatever you want and it immediately froths... its thick and creamy and actually stays that way for awhile so you can enjoy it with multiple cups of coffee... You can't throw it in the dishwasher, and I was a bit worried about that at first, but its really easy to clean by filling it with water, rinsing it and filling it again then pressing the button... The booklet even recommends using a drop of soap, but I haven't done that.

Best Deals on CBTL LM-145P Milk Frother

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The only fault I can find with this product is that it does not make cold froth for summertime coffee drinks. Therefore the 4 star rating... I would give it 5 if it frothed cold milk too. It only warms milk, or makes warm froth for hot coffee drinks, but it does that very well. You have a choice of making a small amount or more, in nothing flat! It even turns itself off when ready. I just tried it with my own brewed coffee making it stronger than usual as I did not have the expresso or any of the pre-mixed packets that CBTL sells. I need sugar-free so I added some flavoring, cinnamon and sweetener and was pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted :D I am the only one in this household who likes frothed/sugar free so this will be perfect for me or any of my visiting guests who like the "skinny lattes."

It couldn't be easier to use, fast clean-up, just rinse the inside & dry. I find myself warning "helpers" not to immerse the product in dishwater that is a pain but it stores nicely and is very sturdy and heavy, not flimsy. Mine arrived in white, not black, as labeled on the packing slip, which would've matched my other appliances, but performance wise, I can't complain. My CBTL milk frother was provided by Amazon's Vine Program for my online unbiased review of this new product.

This would make a great gift for a single person or even the elderly, it is that easy to use :)

Honest reviews on CBTL LM-145P Milk Frother

This frother is great! I like foamed milk with my coffee drinks and a dollop of whipped cream on top. It's as easy as pouring the milk up to the line inside the frother, twisting the cap on (it only locks one way), plugging it in and pushing the button. 90 seconds later it shuts itself off and you have perfect foamy, warm milk. My skim milk scorched a little on the bottom of the frother but the non-stick lining is VERY non-stick and I wiped it right out with a wet paper towel.

(I have this in the black version, same model).

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The CBTL is solidly constructed, heavyish, and creates good quality warm, frothy milk (or just plain warm milk.) However, even though it warms and froths milk well, I cannot give it 5 stars (or even 4). For starters, it cannot produce cold frothed milk. Secondly, the unit produces a relatively paltry 4 ounces of frothed milk. Thirdly, the lid is overly complex because it contains the motor and the frother is physically attached to it. There is no submersing the lid to clean it. In fact, one should be very careful cleaning lid so as not ruin it with soapy water. Fourth, the pitcher and base are one unit. Again, with electronics in the base, it is difficult to adequately clean the pitcher. It is easy for water to inadvertently go where it should not go when cleaning the base. Fifth, the unit has to cool down between frothings. So much for frothing two batches of milk back to back. The limited capacity of the pitcher means one can produce frothed milk for one or two cups of coffee or whatever.

I have used many frothers from the plunger style manual frothers by Bodum to the Aerolatte to this CBTL. The CBTL is most similar to the Keurig frother I used to own. Actually, I owned two of the Keurigs. Both of them simply stopped working. The Keurig and CBTL both share the similar flawed design of a one piece pitcher/heater and a lid with a frothing motor and frother attached.

There is one one frother, though, which stands far above the others. It is the:B003LXY2HA Capresso frothPRO]]. The Capresso pitcher is free of electric parts, the lid has no motor, it has a large capacity, can produce both warm and cold frothed milk, is incredibly easy to clean, and is priced well.

So: the CBTL is a very nice unit. But as long as the Capresso is available, it would be difficult to make the CBTL one's first choice.

And one more thing, the description says the CBTL is made in Italy. My unit is clearly marked "made in China".

We just had a record-breaking heat wave. I live in a poorly-insulated house that becomes hot in 85-degree weather, and we hit 100. (Just north of Seattle, WA.) This A/C did a great job of cooling two small rooms (cool one room, move the A/C to another room, cool that one, then back again, for about a week).

Some observations:

1. You MUST vent a portable A/C out a window or into a drop-ceiling, or you just pump the hot air back into the room.

2. Portables seem to work better when elevated (hot air rises, so this helps keep the "convection effect" going by getting closer to the hot air).

3. It's a little noisy. Adding rubber gasket material to the vents reduces the noise a lot by damping the vibrations.

4. An A/C's BTU rating must match the room size, or the unit simply won't work right. This is true of all A/Cs, and seems to be somewhat critical for portables.

5. It acts as a dehumidifier, which means that you have to drain the water tank regularly or the unit will shut off until you do. (An indicator light tells you when you need to drain the tank.)

So, for those who need to cool small rooms, I think this is a good buy. It has been for me.

----------------------------

Follow-Up on Aug 28, 2009:

----------------------------

I just put the a/c into the garage to store until next year. This thing worked beautifully in the small rooms, but I didn't try it in any of the larger rooms.

----------------------------

Follow-Up on Aug 31, 2010:

----------------------------

I just put it into the garage to store until next year. This year I used it in one of the larger rooms because I installed a window a/c in the smaller room, and it did a decent job of keeping the place cool. So far I've had two seasons of trouble-free cooling, so I'd say I got my money's worth. I may buy one more next year for my studio.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

So, I live in a studio. Not very big at all. You would think this air conditioner would be able to handle keeping it cool. Well, not so much.

Regardless of how low I set it, or how long I kept it running, it kept my studio at 78 degrees. It was actually a better deal to shut it off, open the windows/door and let the air circulate. It actually got cooler in there once I did that.

Moreover, the hose you connect to the window vent is an eye sore, and isn't flexible enough to let your place the unit somewhere convenient. So you end up having to leave the A/C unit in the middle of the room instead of neatly in a corner or against the wall because the vent hose doesn't allow otherwise.

This is pretty much the worse purchase I have made in a LONG time. Worse of all, it doesn't even make sense for me to return it. The seller charges as 12% "re-stocking fee". Moreover, I would need to carry the huge 70+lbs box up and down stairs to get it back to my work so UPS can pick it up. The box is very flimsy once you remove the nylon ribbons that it comes sealed with, and doesn't really allow you to transport it without spending some money on repackaging.

So yeah, I'm stuck with a $300 70+lbs paper weight. Good times.

[EDITED 07/30]: So I was contacted by the seller (CompactApplience) and their conclusion was that my studio was too big for the 8,000 BTU rating. They actually let me return just the A/C unit without having to worry about packing all the awkwardly-shaped pieces, and reimbursed me for everything, including shipping. Although I've decided NOT to try a different unit with a greater BTU rating, I'm leaving this review here so that hopefully people looking into buying this or any other unit are aware of the importance of considering the size of the room you're trying to cool down when you choose the unit BTU. I was remotely aware of that, but didn't look too much into it, and you saw what happened... Luckily for me, the seller handled the situation superbly well. A happy ending, after all. :)

PROS

about as small and light (50lbs) as they get

comes with remote

comes with window kit

powerful fan

thermostat

very little assembly/packaging

CONS

no accessible drain pan

machine itself only had power button (no controls)

loud

OVERVIEW

I live in a 300sq foot studio with a 15 foot ceiling and a south-facing bay window. My apartment gets hot when it's sunny and is almost always damp/humid. I got the Koldfront because it was the only unit that would fit in my available surface area: on top of my kitchen cabinets. I already had ducting running through my cabinets to vent my over-range microwave, so I popped the Koldfront on top of my cabinet and tied the exhaust into my existing duct work.

It takes the Koldfront about 5-7 minutes to cool my apartment down to habitable from digustingly hot. Technically, I think my space is supposed to be a little too big for this machine, but having it blow cold air across my ceiling seems to do a good job of displacing all the hot air, and since it's located high up, it should be sucking warm air out as it cools the condensers.

I ran this machine for a couple of days at ground level and was less than excited about it's potential, I could actually feel a temperature differential about two feet off the ground between cold and hot air. But moving it closer to my ceiling made all the difference. When it was on the floor, all it did was move air and maybe cool a little bit. Now that it's at ceiling height I'm actually getting chilly.

FAN SPEED

There are three fan speeds: high is pretty loud, and low is still relatively loud. I've gotten used to it pretty quickly though, it pretty much acts as white noise, dampening external sounds.

MODES

AC, Dehumidifier, and Fan are the available mode settings for this machine. I'm happy about these options since you won't always need/want the condensers coming on and off, and you can dehumidify when it's cold out without turning on the AC.

WATER RESERVOIR

The koldfront is supposed to vent humidity out through the ducting, but has a water resevoir for high humidity situations. Unlike some machines, the reservoir isn't a bucket that you can remove from the machine. To drain the reservoir, you have to pull out a little plug at the bottom of the AC, which is about two inches off the ground. That doesn't give you much room to maneuver a drain pan. Fortunately, at 50LBS, it's not too heavy to put in the bathtub and let drain there. The lack of an accessible reservoir is a definite con though. Apparently the Koldfront is made to be able to hard-wire a drain, so that may be an option for some. I ran my machine on and off for a couple of days in San Francisco and it drained something like a cup of water. I don't know the total size of the reservoir, but the drain indicator lite hadn't turned on yet before I drained it.

THERMOSTAT

I've read some reviews complaining of an inaccurate thermostat on the KOLDFRONT, but mine seems to be about spot on.

REMOTE AND LCD PANEL

Don't lose the remote, or if you do, hope you had your Koldfront set exactly how you want to have it because there's no way to change settings without the remote. The remote itself is pretty intuitive, with power, up, down, mode, fan speed, Celsius/Fahrenheit, timer, and cancel buttons. And it comes with batteries. The LCD panel reads the ambient temperature in either Celsius or Fahrenheit until you press the up or down button on the remote, in which case it reads your preset temperature preference. There's a blue/green/yellow LED that indicates whether you're in AC/dehumidifier/ or fan mode, respectively. The information on the LCD is large enough to read from several feed away.

ASSEMBLY

Like most appliances, the Koldfront came with a cardboard cover over the packaging and plastic ties keeping it on. You just cut the ties and lift the cardboard cover off the machine. Inside, there's just a couple pieces of Styrofoam, the AC, and the window kit, plastic duct, instructions, remote, and two AAA batteries for the remote. The AC itself doesn't require any assembly, aside from plugging the duct in. The drain plug on mine had popped out, so I just twisted it back into place. There's a little more involved in assembling the window kit, but the instructions are pretty good on how to get that together. All you need (if your window is the right size) is a phillips head screw driver. The window kit is held into place by the weight of your window and doesn't need to be screwed into the window frame at all.

CONCLUSION

Overall, I'm happy with my Kodlfront. Mine arrived fully functional out of the box, and raising it to ceiling height has made it a lean, mean studio-cooling machine. It's a little bit bigger than I had guessed from the picture, but it's still smaller than most, and fit where I needed it to. It's loud, but inexpensive and has a built in thermostat and remote. Draining it is going to be a hassle, since I've moved it out of easy reach, but there's nothing else on the market that would have worked for me, so four stars for working properly, but not five, because of the lack of controls on the machine, the lack of a removable reservoir, and the loudness of the fan.

Honest reviews on EdgeStar Ultra Compact 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner - White

Listen up, everyone!

When buying an air conditioner you MUST make sure that your room is the adequate size for the unit that you are buying. It seems that a lot of negative reviews are due to the following: Too much room, too little BTUs. It is the same with gas mileage on a car. You can't expect to get 35 mpg highway while driving 70 mph with a fully loaded car. However, most portable air conditioners overrated their cooling power by 50% (see a Kid's review). So, when you buy an AC always buy 50% more BTUs than is recommended (8,000 BTU recommended unit should be 12,000 BTU). With that said I would recommend this Koldfront AC unit.

Pros:

Very portable and lightweight

Low noise

Easy to use controls

Price

Has a timer

Compact

Cons:

Will only cool a small room/area

Needs to be drained (DON'T believe what the instructions state)

Should be set on a table or set higher than the drain hose

Does not do a good cooling job when it is humid

So, if you have a small area to cool, live in a low humidity area and want a QUIET portable AC under $300 then this is the one for you.

I bought the Koldfront 8000BTU portable AC unit to cool a small, 150 sq ft drum room in my garage. I live in South Florida, so it does get a quite hot and humid. The room itself is completely isolated from the garage, but if not cooled, it gets up into the 90's in there. I built the room and installed an exhaust vent and PVC drainage line for the AC unit. The first unit I owned ran ~12 hours a day (off at night) and worked well for about 12 months. It maintained a dry, cool (~70-72deg) environment for my drums. Then, it stopped cooling the air. The fan worked, but no cool air and no condenser water. I called the company, and though very responsive on the phone, said the unit was out of warranty. So... I purchased a second one for about $260. This one worked fine on the same settings for about 6 months before the same thing happened. I may be stressing this unit, but 6 months? Come on... If you need this unit for long term cooling, I recommend going with something more robust. Otherwise, it probably works fine for limited applications. Hope this helps.

I'm on my 3rd season with this unit.

1. Its way more powerful than my GE portable. Keeps the LR cool when the GE would not.

2. This unit, though powerful, is very poorly made.

Example:

All four wheels broke off the first season (my season is June-Aug)

The unit emits a "burnt tire" smell. finally stopped smelling in the 3rd season. Friends are no longer asking, "what's that smell?"

The digital lights went out at the start of the 2nd season, so no warranty to fix.

The directional blades fell off the machine during the second season. Can not be repaired.

The exhaust hose lasted only one season, then fell apart, even though properly stored ($29 + s/h for replacement)

To all those who see nothing but good ratings at the Compact Appl site: They refuse to post any of the real negative stuff. They fix the comment section to reflect only good reviews of 4 stars and more. Not too ethical, no?

Do not buy this item or any item from this company. The product was broken right out of the box. If you buy something them and it works, you're lucky. If it does not, good luck getting any kind of customer service for repair.

Best Deals on Koldfront AP12000S-KF Extreme Cool 12,000 BTU Portable Air

I purchased this air conditioner from another site. We've had it for one day and it is going back. The first problem is the stupid window kit. It is thin and flimsy. The other problem is that the window kit does not fit flush in the window. There is about a half-inch difference between the extension and the window. Plan on using some duct tape to close the gap. The next problem was the first day it arrived it was 80 degrees but the lowest the unit would cool the room down to was about 74 degrees even though it was programmed for 65 degrees. Our old unit was only 6,000 BTU's and it kept our room really cool for 5 summers so I do not believe this unit is really 12,000 BTU's. I left the unit on overnight because the exhaust opening on the window plate is little more than the kind of plastic grates you see on milk crates. They supply a plastic cover but it takes a bit of force to twist it off. As I mentioned earlier, the window kit plate isn't the sturdiest so I was worried if I used too much force it might fall out the window. The final straw came the next day when the unit shut off because we had to drain out the water. This is crazy how often would it need to drain on 90 degree days? I am so happy I purchased this unit early enough to return it before it gets too hot. BUYER BEWARE THIS PRODUCT IS JUNK!

Honest reviews on Koldfront AP12000S-KF Extreme Cool 12,000 BTU Portable Air

Compact Appliance sent me a piece of junk (Portable air conditioner EdgeStar model # AP1200S). It kept tripping the breaker and the one time when it did run for 3 hours it never cooled the room. Compact Appliance told me to contact EdgeStar then EdgeStar said to contact Compact Appliance. It is very frustrating to deal with these two Companies. No one wants their piece of junk portable air conditioner back.

The return policy with Compact Appliance is horrible Compact Appliance makes you pay for shipping back to them no matter what. There is no satisfaction guaranteed even though they say there is on their website.

The manufacture warranty through Edge Star is also horrible. They make you pay for shipping on the extremely heavy portable air conditioner to an EdgeStar authorized repair facility (wherever that isas it does not say on the warranty).

I find it hard to believe that there are so many great reviews on this air conditioner on the Compact Appliance website. The Amazon reviews are not as good.

It is very frustrating when you are looking forward to getting cool air after you paid a lot of money to Compact Appliance and took time carrying it up the stairs and unpacking and installing it and still not having cool air. Then having Compact Appliance and EdgeStar blame each other and you is even crazier. It has been a very upsetting two weeks. It is not worth buying from them.

I am happy to report that I purchased a Sharp portable air conditioner at Costco and it is working beautifully. If for some reason it stops working (even 5 years down the road) I can take it back to Costco and get me money back instantly. Costco is a company that does guarantee satisfaction unlike Compact Appliance.

I bought this w/out any reviews; which I never do, however it looks as good as or better than the picuture. The fireplace insert is bigger than most I've reviewed and the flame is fairly real looking. puts off a lot of heat too. The finish is truly a dark espresso.

The only bad thing was many damaged pieces, some parts the wood (particle board) was cracked or chipped. This may not be the fault of the seller as this was packaged nicely, it was likely due to the delievey folks.

I bought this in lieu of a TV stand and overall the fileplace is very nice and holds my 50" slim Sony TV perfectly, like it was made for it. I also purchased a ladder shelf from Amazon to go next to it that hold the TV/Cable components. What a beautiful set up.

We had a DGB-600BC and used it daily for about 4 years. The grinder assembly finally seized and we could no longer remove it. We had been looking around for a new coffee maker, anyway, so we went ahead and bought this one (DGB-650BC) at a local store.

We've been using it for a couple weeks now and it makes a fine cup of coffee, just like the last one did. I noticed right away, that a few things that turned out to be issues with the last model had been fixed or improved upon with this one.

1) The grinder compartment is much better separated from the water reservoir and also designed better for all the grounds to go into the filter basket. The older model always left a bit of a mess, both in the grinder compartment and on the little shelf that separated the filter basket from the coffee pot, and around the burner plate. I haven't seen any of that mess with this model. I can't tell you how happy that makes me.

2) The little shelf I spoke about in #1 is now gone. That's a plus. Since this maker is designed better, it isn't needed anyway. Also, this shelf caused build up around the door latch making it hard to shut after a very short time. I'm glad it's gone.

3) The filter basket door mechanism is far better designed. The old model I had to slam shut, sometimes repeatedly, before it would stay shut. This one has a much better and more sturdy hinge mechanism and latch.

4) New to this model (the old one didn't have this) is a window on the side so you can see how much water you're pouring in. It's clearly marked and has a red floating ball to make it easy to see. I really like this feature.

The grinder seem a little louder than the old one, but I've never met a coffee grinder that wasn't loud and it's only for a very short time. I love having freshly ground coffee first thing in the morning.

As far as cleanup goes for the grinding assembly and filter basket, it only takes a minute or two. Aside from the coffee pot itself, there are 5 pieces to clean and it really is quick and easy to empty the filter basket and rinse the pieces.

In short, this is fine coffee maker, much improved from the DGB-600BC, and I am happy we upgraded to it.

I love the new look! We had the older version for about 6 years. This new one is sleeker and much easier to clean and keep clean (the inside where the grinder sits gets cakey due to condensation). I got it for $149, used Amazon Prime, and had it in a few days! I love it. If you're thinking of getting this grind and brew with stainless carafe, it is nice. Some parts will have to be replaced over the years like the older version, but the taste of the freshly ground coffee every day is worth it. I never pre-heat the carafe like the directions say because that defeats the purpose of the timer. I've never had an issue with the coffee temperature, it's always hot! I also recommend hand-washing over dishwasher. The carbon filters are similar to Brita and can be found for cheap at Kohl's. One other note is it only makes 10 cups as opposed to the typical 12 cups. This is fine for me because it's just me and my husband, but if you need to make a ton of coffee regularly, this may not be a good choice. Overall, I love it and I'm glad I traded up!

Best Deals on Cuisinart DGB-650BC Grind-and-Brew Thermal 10-Cup Automatic

Let me start by admitting that I am a novice when it comes to drinking coffee, much less owning coffee machines. This is the first coffee machine I've ever bought, but I've been very happy with it thus far. If you purchase it, definitely read the directions as there are a couple of small points they bring out, that you wouldn't otherwise know. (For instance, when you place the goldtone coffee filter in, the handle which can rest in either direction, must face outwards.) I just mention this, since I am usually one to NOT read directions, and I'm sure most others who have owned coffe machines wouldn't either, but it seems valuable in this particular case.

The main reason I went with this unit, was Cuisineart had the only ones in Bed Bath & Beyond which can be programmed to grind then brew. I leave it on my desk at work, and have it programmed to grind/brew right before I arrive in the morning. And it's awesome. Only used it several times so far, but no complaints. Cleaning is relatively easy but (like any other coffee brewer/grinder I assume) you have to clean it every day. Not a big deal though, so far I've just been taking the grinder and filter parts out, and rinsing them out. Not sure how important it is to use soap...

The most valuable thing I can tell you, that you won't read on the box, is that the thermal caraffe REALLY DOES work great. I don't pre-heat the caraffe, since I have it sitting out from the night before. I have mine programmed to start brewing at 8:30am. And believe it or not, despite the fact that there is no heater that runs after it's done brewing... the coffee stays HOT for a long time. It stays piping hot for several hours, and even at 2:30pm, it is still drinkably warm. I never expected it to stay that warm for 6 hours, far exceeded my expecations.

Easy to program, but you have to remember to press the Program button each night before. Although, that's not really a big deal since you have to add water and all the other stuff anyway. It's a safety feature really.

Grinder noise isn't super loud, and it only runs for 60 seconds so who cares. Mine is sitting on my desk in my cube, but I program it to run before most people arrive in the office so it's not a problem.

Very short 2ft. power cord with the unit, which will be great for kitchen countertops where you can put it by an outlet, otherwise you might need an extension cord.

Can't speak about reliability. Hopefully they fixed some of the issues people had with this unit's predecessor. Will revise my review later if I have issues.

I've rated it 5 stars, for $129 I feel that I got what I expected and paid for, and really don't have any complaints. I also haven't seen ANYTHING in the market that does what this does, in the same price range. Is there not a demand for coffee grinder/brewers? I mean, why wouldn't you want to have something that you can program to do both before you even wake up? For me, there was no other choice.

Cuisinart has a more expensive model than this one, but it was $70 more and the only feature that really seemed to be valuable was it's "burr grinder" which is supposedly better. But it didn't seem like that was worth $70 more to me, so I thought this was the best value.

Honest reviews on Cuisinart DGB-650BC Grind-and-Brew Thermal 10-Cup Automatic

I ordered this coffee maker knowing that Cuisinart produces very fine products but I have to say I am not real happy with this particular product. The grinder grinds the beans VERY coarse which doesn't make a very strong cup of coffee so I'm back to grinding my coffee with my burr grinder. The setting for 1-4 cups does not make the water warmer as advertised (it comes out luke warm) so I just don't push that button when making a small pot of coffee. I do find that when brewing a full pot it does keep the coffee hot for quite a while. I think, if I order another Cuisinart coffeemaker in the future, that I will pay a little more and get the coffeemaker with the burr grinder and with a hot-plate instead of the thermal carafe.

For those who want grind and brew features this is the best product for the money. There are the higher priced models but some of us have to stay on a budget. Compared to the earlier version, I've had 3 of the earlier ones; they do tend to break down after 2 years. This model has significant improvements. The best is that it is so much easier to clean the grinding area. The earlier model was next to impossible, this more open design makes it possible to actually get those beans that get into the grinding area out.

In reading the other reviews I did have a few concerns.

1. The sediment from the filter: Well that's the reality of permanent filters. So it's convenience of not having to get those paper things out and over to the trash. If that detail is annoying use paper. Even the high priced machines have that issue and Cuisnart clearly informs you of this issue with a notice before unpacking the product.

2. Noise: The review that goes on about how noisy this machine is. Gad face reality, these are coffee beans getting ground up in somewhat large area in an enclosed area without a lot of sound insulation. It is going to get loud. No louder than a regular coffee grinder and a lot quieter than a garbage disposal. To avoid having the noise in the morning I do the unthinkable, grind the beans the evening before. OK, I'm not a purist.

3. Coffee not the right temp: Face reality, the carafe is going to be the same temp as the room it's sitting in. So it like most people who turn down there temp in their house at night to let's say even 68 degrees at night or even 70, the the physics say the carafe temp is going to be 70. Now, brew coffee and when it gets into the insulated carafe the temp is going to average out. Since the insulated model doesn't have a warming plate, you're may want to take into consideration that you're brewing into a room temp carafe and the coffee temp is going to cool down. Cuisinart clearly informs you that simply warming up the carafe with hot water before brewing takes care of this issue. I easily deal with this when the machine starts brewing you have a good 30-45 seconds before the first drop comes out and the machine does have a function to keep coffee from coming out unless the carafe is properly placed. That gives plenty of time to run some hot water into it, get the inside temp up and the result is coffee at the perfect temp. Now I do have to say that it is very easy for me because I have one of those instant hot water faucets at the sink so I don't have to wait for the hot water to start flowing.

There have been some very good user oriented changes to this model. It's not perfect, but for the money it's the best you're going to find on the market. Take the critics in these reviews with a grain of salt.

Of course one of the reasons I am really, really happy with this machine is that I ran into it when Amazon had it on sale for $110 with a $30 rebate from Cuisinart. My final cost was $85!! I called customer service to see how the rebate would work. They told me a mail-in coupon would come with the product. When the product arrived ( 3 days later, and I used the free standard shipping during the holiday period) there was no rebate coupon. I called customer service and their response was "we'll just add a $30 credit" to your account. I was expecting getting a run around anticipating that they would put the problem off on Cuisinart. But no, Amazon steps up to plate, resolves the problem in less than 1 minute and the credit appeared on my credit card the next day. Now that is customer service!!

My hats off to Amazon to putting the customer first. Beyond the coffee maker at $85 final cost with free shipping, I have to say that Amazon has matured into a very customer focused retailer. They have moved beyond good prices and the convenience of shopping at home; they are real competition to the brick & moter stores. Amazon's focus on the customer actually gives the retail experience a lot of us remember in the "old department store" days.

I have never taken the time to write a product review, but I do enjoy having them available to get unbiased reviews and input. This time I felt it was only fair to take the time to put a realistic perspective to some of the negative reviews while at the same time expressing my positive experience with Amazon. For me Amazon has primarily been a convenience factor, now I shop with them because of their dependability and customer service focus. Price is not the driver for me anymore. I've just learned that if I really want customer service, the most reliable and predictable place to shop is Amazon!!

I noticed frequent longer hot showers since I installed it on my heater. A good quick fix for someone on a budget.

I have a 10 year old water heater with OK efficiency.

Before installing this product I took a thermal temperature gun to:

The cement around the heater and it was 50 degrees.

The air temperature is 60 degrees in the basement.

I put the temp gun to the water heater and it showed 70 degrees.

I installed the product, waited about 24 hours, it's now showing 69 degrees. This means the material is still being heated/loosing heat. And yes, I did install it right, the instructions are simple. This product is a waste of money.

I purchased this heater to replace the one that failed earlier and was returned. The size is right and i am amazed how quiet it operates, can hardly hear it running, also i have it set at low heat setting, 750watts and it heats the room just great. If you need a small space heater this is the one to buy

I just received my order yesterday and plugged it up last night. For such a small heater it gives very good heat, and the sound of the blowing fan is not very loud.

I ordered this for my desk at work, but I hope to find a larger Optimus heater with

the same quality for home use.

This is the sweetest little stove that you could ever want! It is all that it says and the "show" is great! It really is very impressive.

The quality of the workmanship is good. It heats up a room 10x15 in about 15 minutes, at which point you can turn the heat down to almost

nothing or turn it off and just leave the "flames burning". I do like the fact that it does heat quickly, it saves a lot of money in the

long run because you can turn it down or off. The odor that many spoke of when you first turn it on is minimal and burns off quickly, by the second use, there was none at all. There is a big notice on the box that there will be a slight smell when first turned on, so the manufacturer is up front about it. I can really recommend this product for the ambiance that it gives to a room and for its quick heat up of a room. I actually used this for a Christmas party, the room was chilly, I heated the room and by the time my guests did arrive, everyone commented about the adorable little stove! Since I live in an NYC apartment and have no access to a fireplace, this really does

make the place warm and friendly. A great buy at a really great price. I have seen other such products at much more and not halfway as nice.

This is the best heater we've owned. For it's size and output, it's truly amazing -warm and cozy in appearance and function! Our experience with this seller is that they are efficient, courteous and very timely in answering questions about products (they have a live chat) and in shipping. It doesn't get any better than this! I highly recommend them AND the heater!

It's very pretty and works as advertised. While you can run the flame without the heater, there isn't an option to run the heater without the flame. I tried turning the dial all the way down on the flame 'brightness' knob and it pretty much went out, but the thing inside that makes the flicker was still rotating and there was a very faint light. I wonder how long the bulb inside will last? There are instructions on how to take the back off and put in a new one. It says it uses a 40 watt, E12 socket base light bulb (candelabra base, B bulb.) The instructions appear easy enough, take the back off, put in new bulb.

My only complaint is that the legs were hard for me to put on. I couldn't do it by hand with a screwdriver, it was like the holes were slightly too small for the screws. I had to get out the electric drill, put on a phillips head attachment, and really PUSH to get the screws in. Using that methon, two legs on one side went right on, but the two on the other side wouldn't accept the 3rd screw (same location on both legs) and I think it's that the hole isn't in exactly the right place. The legs are on and good enough to hold the unit, but I will have my husband do something about getting those two legs attached better. I called the customer service line and after waiting on hold for about 8 minutes I hung up. It is Christmas season, so maybe they are really busy. Or maybe they only have one person answering the phone. The legs are on and stable enough. Someone would have to really kick the two legs that are missing the 3rd screw to get them to move.

The unit is metal and the legs are heavy guage plastic that perfectly matches the look of the metal. They don't look like plastic.

The unit itself doesn't heat up, the casing of the blower doesn't even feel hot, but the metal on the underside of the unit directly above where the hot air blows out gets hot. Nothing else on the unit is hot. The legs are very cool to the touch. (But if I had a baby crawling around, I wouldn't want him to touch the bottom metal right above the heat output. Or, if he did, he wouldn't touch it for long.)

The door has an inside magnet that you don't see that keeps it shut. There's not a clip or anything holding the door shut. But it stays shut.

I am wondering what all that forced hot air will do to the antique cypress wood floors in our bedroom. Could it dry them out or harm them in any way? I might put the unit on a small rug to protect the wood directly in front of it.

I plan to turn off the main heater at night and see how we do with just this running in our bedroom, which is about 300 sq ft. Our main heater is zoned, so we only run the bedroom at night anyway. I'm wondering if this little unit will use less electricty than our home heater and keep the bedroom warm enough. I hope so. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and might get another for our den if I can see a difference in our electric bill.

We happened by this on Black Friday having been at our son's place the day before where their heater was DOA. It was meant to be. We snapped it up at a deep discount, took it his place and snapped it together in about 5 minutes. The instructions to operate are simple and very intuitive. Heat level easily adustable as is the brightness of the "flame" (we thought that was kinda funny). It heated their living room in no time. As another reviewer noted it did put off a chemical smell on start up but I can't imagine that won't burn off quickly. They seemed to love it. If that changes I'll update.

Bought 4 of these units to go with 4 Broan wall heaters and the timers are perfect for it. 1 timer the screw holes that hold the cover in place were not tapped is my only complaint. Mine did NOT come with the outer cover, just the inner cover with the timer marks.
