We purchased the Duraflame Portable Infrared Quartz Fireplace from Northern Tools, via Amazon. This is one of the best purchases ever; we love it! We live in Michigan and wanted something to warm our family room where we spend most of our time without turning up the main furnace. Duraflame is one of the top brands for safety and dependability. The unit is cool to the touch, and the flames are surprisingly realistic. The 1500 watts is more than adequate to heat our family room of 26 feet by 12 feet with a 9 foot ceiling. There is a low hum from the unit, but it isn't annoying. The Duraflame was purchased in late September 2012 and has been in use every morning and evening October through December (about 8 hours each day). Duraflame says their basic units will cost approximately $30 per month if used 8 hours per day. This unit has a programable temperature, so the unit will use less energy. Come warm weather, we'll wheel the unit into the spare room. We highly recommend Duraflame's Portable Infrared Quartz Fireplace thank you Amazon, and kudos to Northern Tools for their great service and incredibly fast shipping.

On Thanksgiving I had the family over, and they we so impressed with this fireplace! They said it made them feel very cozy. My brother said he was going to see about getting one for his house. My mother said she wanted to get one also, so I bought her one for Christmas. I use mine all the time, and it is better then a real fire, because you just push a button and you get instance flames and a glowing fire.

Read some of the reviews and wasn't sure if this would work for us in our motor home for those nights that the furnace just doesn't seem to keep our "home" warm enough. It sure is a great addition to the look of our home, and heats it really well.

We are pleased with it and didn't not have any noise when it works other than what we expected.

Honest reviews on Duraflame Portable Infrared Quartz Fireplace - 1500 Watts, Model#

Works very well to make our 3 season room almost 4 seasons. We ordered ours in medium oak, however it arrived with a different wood. A call to the supplier and we were offered to receive the correct model or accept a rebate. I have been in business long enough to know that there will be occasional problems and this one was handled professionally.

Hot water in my flask doesn't stay hot enough for a whole day out, and this is a good way to bring my tea or coffee up to temperature. I haven't tried heating water from cold it is always at least warm when I start. It takes several minutes and the wait can be a bit tedious, but it does a good job. The clip which is supposed to hold the heater onto the side of the mug doesn't (it flops about), so I have to hold it to keep it properly immersed. It cools off quickly and is reasonably easy to clean with a small brush.

This is a good product. I use it in a stainless coffee mug in the car. Sometimes the cigarette lighter plug on the Road Pro will melt if you leave it on too long. Radio shack part number 270-1521 is a much more robust plug. I just crunch the old plug up and cut the metal tabs with the wires soldered to them from the original plug and put them in the holes in the Radio Shack heavy duty plug and it is fixed and lasts forever. I leave the LED connected and it indicates when it is plugged in.

Great gadget. Much better than the plug in mugs that fail quickly.

I purchased this item as a gift for my son. He is an over the road truck driver and I thought this would be nice so he could make coffee of a morning. He used it twice and it burned out. It may be that it was just a defective product, but on the other hand at a cost of about $12, it is not worth taking the chance. I would have returned the product, but it may be months before I see him again, and he had already discarded the packaging. My loss could be your gain. Don't buy!

Honest reviews on RoadPro RPBH-012 12V Beverage Heater

I bought this item to heat water so that I could keep hot coffee during a 5-day cross-country road trip. (Without having to pull over to purchase it...) The product specifications indicates that the so-called "metal" clip would attach neatly to most "CERAMIC" coffee cups. Firstly, the "metal clip" is NOT METAL but some type of hard plastic. I chose a ceramic cup with the narrowest rim to be sure it would accomodate the space allowed for the clip to engage. However, as soon as I placed the clip on the rim of the my cup, the clip snapped off! (With little or NO pressure!!)

I just finished the trip on Saturday Sept. 4th and any hot coffee during my trip was purchased from various vendors enroute so I wasted $16.98 on the item and shipping cost. WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP!

Although the other reviews were not promising I gave it a chance. Wrong! The heater was in pieces on arrival, the tip was unscrewed. I put it back together, used it once and the tip melted. I had used the 110v units years ago and although they didn't last very long, I decided to give this a chance, as I work from a vehicle. Don't waste your time or money.

It came regular shipping in just a few days -just as promised. The instructions were clear except it didn't specify the wire required or breaker size. 240 volts (16.67 amps) You could probably use 12 gauge20 amp, but I used 10 gauge 30 ampto exceed the 80% limit factor on the breaker. It is about as quiet as a regular fan forced plug in portable heaterbut puts out alot more heat. (It wouldn't burn anything around it though.) It was easy to install I surface mounted it to a block walland made a frame to cover the unpainted housingout of white plastic lumber. (cheaper than going to another site to buy the $60 surface mount-frame kit). Appears to have quality parts. The grill is white and neat looking. I almost bought the 3000 watt unit but I am happy with this 4000 watt one.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program My carpet is old and due for replacement. While this Bissell carpet cleaner couldn't remove years of wear, it did remove a surprising volume of dirt. At first, I didn't think it was really doing all that much. But once I emptied out the tank, my God, what a filthy carpet I was walking on! The used water was a very dark gray bordering on black. Yuck!

There's a handy little spinning wheel icon on the base of the unit (aka the flow gauge) that tells you if everything's going according to plan, or if you need to change the water, add cleaning fluid or some other issue. If it's spinning, you're in good shape. When it stops, you need to fill or empty the tank(s).

The cleaner has 4 different "custom clean" settings. I mostly used the "normal clean" setting and then switched to "heavy traffic" for the dirtiest regions. The "Dry Aire" feature sends hot air to your carpet to aid in drying. As I write this, my living room is somewhat humid and the floor is damp. I don't think it will take long to dry though.

A small bottle of Bissell cleaning solution is included. Do yourself a favor and buy a larger bottle before this item arrives. You'll go through it pretty quickly, so probably best to buy a decent sized refill in advance of delivery. Otherwise, you are flat-out going to run out of cleaning fluid before the job is done.

So what's not to like? Well, it's somewhat heavy and bulky. For someone small and weaker, it might be a bit hard to move around. Obviously, it rolls on the carpet fine, so that's not an issue. But it's a big unit and you probably need at least a little bit of muscle (but not too much) to use it properly. The tank filled with water might be a bit heavy for some as well. You carry it like a bucket, but toting around a bucket full of water and bending down to insert and remove the tank isn't a simple thing for someone without a moderate amount of strength.

Assembly was quite easy. You put the top half into the bottom half and secure it with 3 Phillips screws. Nothing too tricky there. The tool rack requires a touch more attention. The illustration was not as clear as I would have liked and it took a bit of head scratching to figure out where a couple of tools sit on the rack. You'll figure it out, but again the illustration could be clearer.

While the top of the hose rack secures with a screw, the bottom does not. I noticed that one other reviewer said that the bottom of the rack (no screw to secure it) would not stay in place. I initially had the same problem. However, I looked at that bottom rack a bit closer and there's a tab that needs to snap in place and if you don't do it just right, it will keep falling off. Play with it and you'll see what I mean. If that bottom hose rack is popping off, you probably haven't installed it correctly. It's not hard, but you need to slide the lower hose rack piece in just right so that it clicks and locks into place. It's not just gravity that's holding it in place, but that's what you'll think if you don't do it right.

The only other problems I had was that my knee and/or the cord kept knocking the hose off of the hose rack and onto the floor. I'm no engineer, but I think it could somehow be secured a bit better. Once, I knocked the hose off and then put it back on the rack. However, the head's trigger was pushed on the stain brush, which I didn't notice. By the time I discovered that the button was pushed, my leg was very wet and the brush had soaked my wallet and remote control. Fortunately, they are fine, but keep an eye on that so you don't spray cleaning fluid where you don't want it. Also, the coiled power cord rests right next to the coiled hose and they interfere with each other. I can't help but think that they could have designed this a bit better.

I went back and forth as to whether to give this unit 4 or 5 stars. If you solely look at whether it does what you expect it to, it's a 5 star item. It cleans your carpet well and gets out a lot of visible dirt. There are a few minor issues, but overall this is a nice carpet cleaner and it cleans very well. However, I knocked that hose off so many times either with my knee or the cord that I have to give it 4 stars.

I think that this Bissell will go a long way towards keeping your carpets looking nice and potentially extending the life of your flooring. I recommend it, despite a few minor issues.

I purchased my 2x pro heat about 1 month ago. Prior to this I used a low end Bissell which I thought was good, but with one pass on this new cleaner I was impressed.

I want everyone to know that I recommend this cleaner, it far surpasses my lower end Bissell and the high end Hoover I borrowed from the neighbor.

Reading some of these other reviews I understand the problems with some of the negative reviews.

One person writes that the cleaner left all the water on the floor. There is a red filter/flapper on the dirty water resivour. If you get too much foam in the container there is a flap that closes the intake so that the foam does not get sucked in the cleaner. Go dump the dirty water. Then check that red flapper and make sure it is not stuck to the intake. If it is just tap the container and it will flip back down. If it is sticking then you may be using too much cleaner.

When you finish up make sure you fill the soap container with water and run rinse water over the last part of your carpet. You are asking for trouble if you do not do this. Regardless of what Bissell says, get the soap out of the lines before storing the cleaner.

If the carpet is so dirty that the water is sucking up black. Between cleanings make sure all the moving mechanisms do not have stuff caught up in them. Your asking for a belt to break otherwise.

Do not be a fool and use some home brewed serum for carpet cleaner. Use Bissell carpet cleaner products. This cleaner has a heater on-board so the home brew stuff might cook and create chaos! Never use oxyclean or comporable products, they are desintegrators of plastic. You can use Bissells oxy proucts and I recommend them. This is how I lost my old cleaner. When I was speaking with the salesperson I heard a gasp when I told them of my cleaning serum.

Some people are just not mechanically inclined so they do not think about these simple things. I hope my review allows people to understand some of the bad reviews. There is nothing wrong with this cleaner...and if I ever need to contact their customer service and I get lousy service they will not hear the end of it.

I am a director of customer service for another company.

Best Deals on BISSELL ProHeat 2X Healthy Home Full Sized Carpet Cleaner, 66Q4

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I had previously owned a Bissell ProHeat back in 2002 and felt that there was a lot of money invested in a cleaner that didn't really show a lot of promise. When I moved across the country, I didn't feel much of a loss when the moving company accidentally "misplaced" the ProHeat. When I saw the newer 66Q4, I wanted to test it out in order to see if Bissell had made any marked improvements over their previous lines, and alas, there's not a whole lot of change.

For around $300, you're paying for a couple of things. First off, you're paying so that you can clean your carpet on your own time; no need to schedule a professional steam cleaning company to do it for you. You're also paying for the clean that comes with "washing" the carpet instead of just vacuuming up the dust and dirt that's accumulated between the fibers. Most professional steam cleaning companies charge around $100-200 for their services (obviously depending on the size of the house/apartment), so there is a lot to be said for just purchasing your own machine and cleaning when you need to. Unfortunately there has yet to be a single-unit device made that can match the power of the multi-thousand dollar units that the pro's use. The ProHeat is no exception to that rule. So the question comes down to: Will the ProHeat work well enough that your calls to the professionals is lessened? The answer is: Yes, however you will still call them on occasion when you want your carpets "really" clean.

If you are new to carpet cleaners, there are some generic things you should know that apply to all carpet cleaners:

They are heavy and cumbersome, even without the liquid

They are messy, both to use and to clean up

They will probably end up smelling (think vacuum funk)

They take a long time to use (3-4x's as long as a normal vacuum, not including dry time)

The cleaners are expensive and get used up quickly, and arguably, unneeded

The unit itself worked as well as expected. The dual brushes do a good job of agitating the carpet fibers so that a significant portion of the dirt embedded gets dislodged. After cleaning the area was visually "brighter" than non-cleaned areas. However, unlike professional cleaners which have a huge suction pull behind their steaming process, the ProHeat does not do a good job of reaching into the carpet pad underneath. Therefore the ProHeat will do a good job of cleaning the surface stain, however it will not remove all traces of things like pet urine (after a good cleaning with the ProHeat, the black light will still glow). Using the spot cleaner along with a little bit of enzyme-based pet urine remover formula will help. Also, it should be noted that the brushes themselves are quite stiff, so if you are seeing a lot of carpet fiber ending up in the cleaning liquid, you may want to reconsider using a agitation-based cleaner (hypothetically you should already be seeing the same behavior with your vacuum).

All-in-all, the ProHeat isn't a bad unit, however if you're considering "upgrading" from a previous model, there's not much new here; nor has the core functionality been improved. If you've never owned a carpet cleaner and just need something to do a good carpet shampooing twice a year, this is a good buy (I would consider this a bit too bulky for a day-to-day spot cleaner) and the unit itself works great as long as you understand that it is not on par with a professional steam cleaning service.

Honest reviews on BISSELL ProHeat 2X Healthy Home Full Sized Carpet Cleaner, 66Q4

We got this carpet cleaner because we have an autistic child and she can get a little bit messy. I wish we had done more research before buying because now I realize just how bad the design of this cleaner is. Instead of having two separate tanks for the clean and dirty water the Bissell has a bladder system in which the clean water is poured inside the bladder and the dirty water is stored in the tank around the bladder.

If germs bother you then your not going to pleased with the disposal process of this unit. It's a pretty disgusting process of pouring out the nasty smelly water that sits around the bladder that the clean water goes in. The bladder design also makes it difficult to clean the tank out when finished. We used the hand tool a lot and it worked pretty well but now the water isn't spraying out and I have to turn the unit off for a few minutes to get it working again.

Finally I just recently noticed that the bristles on the floor cleaner are no longer spinning. We paid over $200 for our machine and for that much money I would have thought it would hold up better than it has. After reading many of these reviews I think I will be looking at another brand in the future.

##############Spoiler##############

This review is lengthy so here is a summary spoiler and my general recommendations:

SUMMARY:

Based on my experience so far I'd say using the proper chemicals and technique the bissell can do just as good of a job as most professional cleaners if you are willing to put in 2x-3x the amount of time for the same area.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

If you have a large carpeted area (500sqft+) I'd say definitely get a pro.

If you have a few bedrooms or a relatively small area (300sqft or less) and don't mind repetitiveness, some leg work, and giving up the better part of a Saturday then give this tool a go.

#############/Spoiler##############

This is not going to be a complete review of all the product features. However, please consider this a review of the bissell's capabilities and a general carpet cleaning guide to get carpet's really clean with this tool.

MY BACKGROUND:

My dad's company does carpet cleaning professionally and I have worked for him in the past. I am not an expert but I do know a good bit more about carpet cleaning then the average joe.

EXPECTATIONS:

The most important part of carpet cleaning is extraction--getting as much water out of the carpet you are cleaning as you can. So I want this thing to suck.

TECHNIQUE:

I didn't do things by the bissell book. I only used hot water and extraction from the ProHeat, no chemicals in the machine. Before I used the ProHeat I pretreated the carpet with 2 professional cleaning products and began cleaning immediately after I finished spraying down the first room.

I cleaned the carpet in small sections by doing a wet and a dry pass for each section. I repeated this process until the water in the extraction tank was clear and free of foam.

Also, I had all furniture removed from the carpeted areas before starting.

RESULTS!:

I used way to much cleaning product on the pretreatment step. As a result my extracted water was coming clear after 3 wet/dry passes but I was still getting foam. I took 2 additional passes to get a more-or-less foam-less extraction tank.

So 5 passes when using professional equipment could have done the same in 1-2 passes. Keep in mind a professional will saturate the carpet with a lot more water in fewer passes because he has a gas power engined running in a van outside that can extract all that water. In that regard I knew this equipment could not measure up because experience has set reasonable expectations.

However, I wanted to know how clean the carpet got and how dry it was left?

The Answer:

Clean and dry.

The carpet was as dry (or more!) after 5 passes with the bissell then it would be after 1-2 passes with a pro tool (carpet wand/rotovac). With a ceiling fan running it was dry in 12-24 hours which is on par with pro equipment.

Okay Okay, but how clean was the carpet???::

Spotless.

Before cleaning I would say the carpet was a 3-4 on a scale of 1-10 (10 being very clean). Most carpets we did professionally (rated on the same scale) were in the 2-6 range.

The carpet was (by my estimates) 3-4 years old and never cleaned professionally. There were a number of latex paint stains that required spot treatment with a latex paint remover. The whole carpet had a black dingy coat to it either from smoke, paint, or a combination of dirt+grease. There were a couple of pet stains that came out completely without any additional attention.

After 3 passes all of that was gone.

SUMMARY:

Based on my experience so far I'd say using the proper chemicals and technique the bissell can do just as good of a job as most professional cleaners if you are willing to put in 2x-3x the amount of time for the same area.

Although more time is spent using the bissell, the work is far easier. Keep in mind pro's have to drag hoses in and out of houses, up stairs and all around. Also, professional tools are usually either back breaking to use or very heavy compared to this plastic bissell.

CAVEAT(S):

The water will not get nearly hot enough to pull some stains. However, water that is too hot can damage some carpets.

Because the extraction is limited some stains will just not move. This isn't really the bissell's fault though. When some stains (especially red stuff like wine) are allowed to soak into the carpet all the way to the pad, using cleaning equipment can make them more visible by pulling more of the stain up from the pad with the extraction equipment. Even with professional extraction this can be a losing battle in some cases; armed with the bissell think sling shot versus goliath but you don't have any projectiles! IE, if it gets worse with a few passes probably better to replace that area of carpet or just live with it.

I purchased 3 professional cleaning products (1 gallon of each) that combined cost over 100$ and they couldn't be purchase in smaller quantities. The good news is I used way to much and that was 1/10 of a liter of each for a 150 sqft room.

I'm also not sure how durable the bissell will be, but 1 cleaning with it is cheaper then 1 pro cleaning.

(Sorry, I have not yet used the hand tool to review it.)

I bought this heater based on the features and a good CR review as there were a limited # of reviews on Amazon. One thing I liked about this heater is it puts out heat at approx. 24" off of the floor. I use it in my home office and my two previous Holmes ceramic heaters were very low and would direct the heat into my computer air intake which wasn't very good for me or my computer. Although I really didn't think I needed a remote to change the heat settings, I find it very useful to control the oscillation or temp setting. You can change all settings manually on the front panel if you loose your remote. It seems to throw out much more heat than any of my previous 1500W heaters and easily heats my 16 x 16 ft room in short order. The LED display is well lit and the construction is fairly impressive and sturdy. The fan seems to have much more CFM than your average space heater, but without any real dicernable noise especially when on the phone etc. About the only thing I can complain about is that in the Automatic temperature control mode the unit will only run in the high 1500W mode. If you use the Auto thermostatically controlled feature and it's relatively close to you, it will get a little too warm which is easily resolved by turning the temperature down or putting it in the manual mode on low. I think for this heater to keep you warm, it doesn't really need to be within 5ft as you can place it anywhere in most rooms in the auto mode to keep the whole room temperature constant. For the cost, I don't see how anyone could complain about this heater, but I'm sure someone will! I just ordered a second one for my family room which is much larger, but I feel it will handle it with ease. I would have ordered two as I am giving one to my Mother for Christmas, but they restocked and sold out all but one in 24 hours! I'm sure that a lot more people will say good things about this heater. BTW I checked the kW per hour usage with a meter, on the high setting and it uses around 1.36 kWh or around 15 cents/hr at average electric rates, but it is very unlikely that you would need to run this heater constantly on high unless you were heating a very large room. I would assume that it would be about half that on the low setting (750W).

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

Great product! Immediately turns out a lot of heat but the heater itself stays cool to the touch. Love the setting to have the heater automatically monitor the room temp and switch on and off in order to maintain the desired temperature. The only thing I do not like about the heater is that after being turned off, when you turn it back on it goes straight to the heater setting instead of "remembering" that we had been using the automatic temperature monitoring setting.

Best Deals on Lasko 6462 Full-Circle Warmth Ceramic Ceramic Electric Space Heater

I put this heater in use at the beginning of December, 2012 and kept track of the power usage with a Kill-A-Watt meter for that month. I ran it for about 8 hours every night set at 65 degrees to keep the master bedroom warm while the whole-house thermostat was set at 60 degrees. For the month of December the heater used 112.39 kwh which at my electrical rate in Michigan cost $7.83 or 25.2 cents per day. I consider this to be very good. The house is well insulated with outside storm windows on the bedroom. The bedroom is 14x17 ft with an 8 ft ceiling that slopes up to 14 ft.

The only downside that kept it from getting five stars is that it is a bit noisy.

Honest reviews on Lasko 6462 Full-Circle Warmth Ceramic Ceramic Electric Space Heater

This is a sturdy and very responsive heater. The instructions are clear and it puts a lot of heat out. It is light enough to move around easily but solid and not at all wobbly. I would recommend it to anyone needing a boost in a too cold room.

Functionality:

I purchased this because I didn't really like the way my friend's round fire pit worked. I thought that a square fire pit would make more sense. I can't tell you how right I was. The logs fit better and it's much easier to manage starting the fire. With this fires will start quickly, stay hot for a long time and look good doing it.

Appearance:

I really like the way this fire pit looks. My wife loves the pretty stars and moons on the side.

Assembly:

There were no instructions on how to put the side screen together, but it was simple to figure out. I had no issues setting it up, probably took about 15 min.

I really like this fire pit. It is nice and deep and has the pretty cutouts on the side. The cutouts are screened to prevent embers from leaping out. It took only a few minutes to put together. It is solid and sturdy. I would highly recommend this fire bowl.

Best Deals on DeckMate Luna Wood Burning Outdoor Firebowl

Perfect size for my setting. It was easy to put together and I would recommend to others. No issues with the instructions and the mesh screen to cover the holes on the side was a nice touch.

Honest reviews on DeckMate Luna Wood Burning Outdoor Firebowl

Not willing to pay $200 and up for something that's going to sit in the yard. So, this seemed to be the best design for the best price. Plus free super saver shipping. We assembled and used the firebowl last night. Assembly took about 15-20 minutes. Issues: 1) The handle doesn't screw in as tight as I'd like. 2) There are pieces included *not* listed in the instructions; specifically the interior mesh panels. Further, though there are screw holes to fasten the mesh screens together, there are no screws included. Still, they stay in place pretty well. 3) There is no lip for the grate to rest on in the bowl. You just drop it in until the bowl tapers enough to hold the grate. So, that's all a little shoddy / suspect. But still the firebowl worked well; less than 30 minutes after we opened the package, we were sitting fireside. I bought this Fireplace for my girlfriend's birthday and it has been used a lot ever since. It took about 10 minutes to assemble, it was very easy, and has held up great through all of our fires and even through Hurricane Irene. It's a great fireplace as the large sparks and coals can't escape so we can use it on our deck. I highly recommend this bowl for anyone who loves to sit by fires and who loves good deals, because this is well worth the money!

I've only used my fireplace a couple of times, but I get the sense already that a 12-pack of the fuel will last me a season, at least, so it's the perfect quantity to buy. The fuel is easy to use, and burns cleanly...love it.

This is a great little heater if you don't need to heat huge spaces. At 10K BTU it is powerful enough to heat my 640 sq ft basement to 75 degrees even with a crack in the window and outside tempreture of 30 degrees. If you use a good quality Kerosene such as Crown 1-K or a reputable K-1 Clear suitable for use in unvented Kerosene heaters, you get virtually no odor from this heater. Adjust the flame correctly and it is a sweet burner for sure. I may use this one regularly to knock the chill off on those extra cold nights. I would recommend this heater.

This is a solid little kero heater. It doesn't have the traditional twist -type knob for on/off and wick adjustment. Instead, it has a adjustable lever that slides up and down. Next to the lever is a push-type button to extinguish the heater, which sends the lever up to the off position. To start the heater, you simply push the lever all the way down to the bottom position and hold it there briefly. This engages the battery-operated ignition and lights the wick quickly. Interestingly, the heater has a audible chiming sound that is heard when the unit is ignited. After the unit lights ( in about 1-2 seconds) the lever can be released. This causes the lever to sit in the wick adjustable range on the lever slide.I have not had to adjust the wick once since purchasing this unit about 1 month ago.The fuel tank is of the type that is removed, filled and placed back in the heater from a hinged cover on the top of the unit.I was a little confused about the fuel level meter at first but have come to realize that the fuel level meter only shows the fuel level for about the last 25% of kerosene left. Before that it simply remains a solid bar ("full")until the last 25% of fuel is reached in the unit. It is at this point that the meter level begins to decrease.

I am impressed with the efficiency of this heater and it seems to be a well constructed appliance.

The only aspect of this heater that I dislike is the audible chime that sounds when you ignite it. It's not extremely loud (like a smoke detector) but, none the less, could wake up someone in a nearby room if the unit is started while they are sleeping. It only chimes for as long as the wick is held in the "ignite" position, which is very brief.

All in all, a great, fuel efficient little unit. I purchased mine from Ace hardware. If you choose to pick it up at a local Ace store shipping is free. I found a coupon online for $10 off any purchase from Ace of $100 or more and paid about $110 for the heater. Ace shipped it to my nearby store (it was not in stock at the store and was purchased from their online site) in two days.

Update: After owning this for about 2 months, I must say I am pleased with it. No problems, just a few things I had to adjust to that's all. I find the chiming sound that is present when the igniter is used is not as loud as I at first thought. It hasn't been a problem for anyone sleeping in adjacent rooms. The unit is easily portable and weighs about 25lbs when full of fuel. You can pick it up and move up when it is lit (carefully) without the unit shutting off. It has been used in very cold conditions ( 4* yesterday) and still manages to heat the lower two levels of our 1500 square foot tri-level home. At the extreme lows it does struggle to provide adequate heat though. It has proven to be very fuel efficient.

Update #2 After using this heater for two solid winters, it has proven to be a winner. No problems with the wick, igniter, or other parts of the unit. The only issue is the glass globe has become hazy.I have tried to clean it using all manner of cleaners and abrasives to no avail. I plan on replacing the globe this Fall.

I have owned my Sengoku Heat Mate for two winters now. Because I am an emergency preparedness buff, I studied up on the topic of kerosene heaters for sometime. What I like about kerosene heating is kerosene is a very safe fuel to store. It is a lubricant and is not volatile like gasoline or propane. I also like the fact that if the electricity goes out, I can have this back-up heating source (and lighting and cooking!) using kerosene. I am extremely happy with this heater. This heater, unlike other radiant heaters, has a very long catalytic converter. This results in a cleaner burn and a greater heat output. The most important thing you should know before buying this heater is that you need to buy a good wick for it. The factory-included wick is junk. You will have a lot of odors and not a good, clean burn after a couple of uses. I suggest you order a good quality wick from Miles Stair's Wick Shop (Google it). For about 6 bucks you will have a high quality wick instead of the cheap, thin one that is included wiht this unit. You will have a better, cleaner burn, no odor and good heat output. The wick is long lasting, too. The manual that comes with this heater will show you how to replace the wick. It's a little involved, so if you are not handy, you should get someone to help you. Please don't let this disuade you from buying this heater. This heater is really good and it's worth this minor inconvenience. You will have to change the wicks anyway sooner or later so why not learn from the get-go, right? Once you have your wick and ready to go, you remove the fuel tank/canister and fill it up. It holds about a gallone of kero. You insert the canister back in and must wait an hour (only with a new wick or dry wick) and then light her up. The auto ignition makes a high pitch beep as it lights and it usually lights right up within one to two seconds. Now, you must know that all kerosene heaters do produce some odors on light up and shut down. This is normal. It's the nature of the beast. Because I have high celings in my living area, we don't mind too much. However, if you are lighting up your kerosene heater in a small room with low ceilings, you may want to light it in a garage or outside on the porch and then bring it back in once it's burning completely. This is part of kerosene heaters. I don't mind the kerosene smell but some people do and are sensitive to it. You can expect a tank to run anywhere from 10-12 hours depending on how cold it is, how you have the flame set and how many times you shut her down and start her back up. Like I said, I have a large living area with high, vaulted celings. Large kitchen and three bedrooms on the main floor. If it's 45 degrees outside, I can keep my whole upper level warm (about 73 degrees and obviously a little cooler in the bedrooms) with this heater running. For only a 10600 BTU ouput, that's pretty good. My wife, who is cold blooded by nature, loves this heater. So much for emergency use! We find ourself using it all of the time for some extra heating. The kids love it too and even my 5 year old knows how to start her up and turn her off. As with every kerosene heater, after so many hours of use you beging to get a carbon build-up on the wick. Too much carbon can make light-up difficult, longer start up time, and can produce more odors and less efficient burning. To avoid this problem, you must remove that carbon build-up from the wick. And it's very easy to do. You need to do what is called a "dry burn". A dry burn simply means that you allow the wick to burn until there is no more kerosene in the tank. With this unit, you can do it fast with little kerosene waste if you do it right. When you begin to see that it's getting harder to light and takes longer to burn bright and you get more odors, it is time to do the dry burn. Burn your unit as normal, and when you are tank is almost on empty, take your unit outside or into the garage. Remove the catalytic converter, raise the wick and light it. It will burn smokey with the catalytic converter removed but that's okay. Burn it until it goes out. When it goes out, come back and light it again. It will burn for a few more minutes then go out again. Repeat this process a few times and you will see that your wick, although black, is free from carbon deposits. Let cool, wipe down the inside with a damp cloth to clean off any soot, refuel and you're ready to go. I can usually do this in about 30 minutes or less. The secret is knowing that you have just a bit of fuel left in the thank. This way, you waste very little kero doing your dry burn. After your dry burn is complete, you will watch in amazement as your heater (don't forget to let the kero re-soak into the wick for an hour) lights right up in just a second and burns nice, hot and clean. This unit puts out a lot of heat for being such a small guy. Take care of it and it will take good care of you. I also recommend you apply a coat of car wax to the exterior before using. This will help protect the finish and keep your unit protected and looking good for many years. Highly recommend this heater...just not the wick that comes with it!

Honest reviews on Heat Mate HMN-110 Radiant Kerosene Heater 10000 BTU 380 Sq. Ft.

Based on all of the research I put into buying a kerosene heater, this one seemed to fit the bill. The most important consideration was minimal fumes. After reading the reviews and other internet info, I expected better performance. Following all instructions for set up in the manual, I had trouble with both lighting the heater and an unacceptable amount of fumes. Thinking that I had performed the dry burn wrong, I repeated it. It seemed that the problem was resolved. Fast ignition and clean almost fumeless burn. I was loving this heater. Fumes and difficult ignition returned after third use. Performed dry burn again. Heater worked well again for 2 to 3 uses. Repeated dry burn process with same results. Considering I have used only 5 gallons of kerosene, this is way too much effort. Doing the dry burn is a time consuming and cold process as it must be done outdoors. I contacted the manufacturer's customer service and it was suggested I do another dry burn or return the burner to Ace Hardware. I was not impressed with this advice since I have performed so many dry burns already and am not sure that Ace will allow a return after 2 months. (I will have to check this out.) What I really want is a clean burning heater that does not require constant maintenance. I don't know if I got a dud or what. The heater operation is quite simple. It doesn't seem like that much could go wrong. I don't know what to do at this point.

Thid review is a follow-up to all of my previous comments. Based at advice I have received from Adam and Miles Stairs' website, I have changed the wick and repeated the dry burn. (See additions to my initial review.) I am sick of this heater. Having done everything to make it work without fumes, I give up. The initial use after a dry burn is excellent. The fumes return after that and I have to do another dry burn. I am sick of doing dry burns. To compound my problems, the electric ignition is no longer working. Customer service is polite but worthless and so is this heater. I am glad that others are having good luck but for me all of this nursing along is just way too much especially since it does not improve the long term use of the heater. I would never recommend this heater. If zero stars were an option, that is what I would give it.

I'm on my second season with this little heater. At the end of the 2009 winter we threw out the other kerosene heater because this one was so clean burning. Almost no fumes. The glass chimney (catalytic converter) is tall and this means extra-clean burning. Very Fuel efficient providing ~10 +/hours on it's small 1 gallon tank. It's large enough for us to take the edge off the cold in our house living space. If we loose electricity this is also the back up heat for our house. A review on another web site noted quality Japanese parts, good design and clean operation. I purchased the heater directly on-line from Ace and picked it up at a local store.

Another reviewer noted the loud sound the heater makes with the ignition button is pushed. This is not a buzzer but the sound from the pizo electric ignition system. This starter is suppose to be more reliable than the glow type.

This product is almost 100% Citric acid, however for the same price here on Amazon you can buy almost 10 times as much if you buy food grade (Citric acid is used for lots of things including cooking.)

Two tablespoons are about the right amount for each cleaning cycle.

Citric Acid 1 lb., (Frontier)

Citric Acid, priced per pound

Citric Acid 4 Lb tub

Citric Acid (Lemon Salt) 5 Pounds Bulk

Citric Acid 1 Lb tub

On the other hand, white vinegar dissolves all the lime, scale, etc. It's cheap, easy, just a little stinky and takes a little longer.

This is how we've been cleaning our Zojirushi electric pots for the past 20 years.

1) Heat up the vinegar to ~150f or so (in the dispensing pot or separately) then pour in. I use a 4 cup pyrex cup in the microwave.

1.5 (Optional)I add a large mason jar in the middle to displace the vinegar so I get a higher level with less vinegar (Think of how sitting in a bathtub causes the water to rise)

2) Leave overnight

3) Rinse out thoroughly. We save the vinegar for use over and over.

I'd tried vinegar to clean my zojirushi 3 qt device. It didn't work too well.

But this stuff is great!! It only takes about 20 minutes and all that nasty junk on the bottom of the water tank comes off. (I did have to rinse the inside of the device once to get the stuff that had come off the sides, but didn't dissolve enough to go out through the dispenser.)

Make sure you order enough for the size of your dispenser. 3 qts needs 3 packets.

Update 7/16/08 -I think the quantity of cleaner you need also depends on your water quality. For some people, one envelope will work. I tried one the first time I tried to clean the machine. It worked some, but wasn't enough to finish the job. I need three -we have extremely hard water. $6 every 6 months is worth the time I'd spend chiselling the interior out.

I would recommend it to everyone who uses the hot water dispenser. It's very easy to use. Even if you don't see any scald build up, give it a try and you will not believe what is there. You will need one package per one liter size of pot. I only has the stubborn scald at the bottom of the pot so I figure I can put one liter of water just to cover the problem area and only use one package of powder. After the cleansing process is done, the bottom of the pot is cleaned just like the first day I got them. I then spot the ring where the water level was and realized how dirty the rest of the pot actually is. Invisible scald, I would call them. Anyway, I ended up using the rest of cleansing powder for the second cleansing batch. I'm using the pot to boil water for the baby formular. It's important that it's kept clean. This product delivers the result I hope for.

worked on my zojirushi hot water dispenser like a charm. After about one year of use, my zojirushi electric water dispenser was covered by hard calcified deposits. I tried to scrub it off, but it was so calcified nothing would come off. Then I got these, and I couldn't be happier with how easy and effective this product is, all it took was 15 minutes, and it disolved the deposits without harming my electric pot.
