I purchased this model because it was the only heater I could find that lets you set a temperature. Most other electrical heaters are simply "low, medium, or high" heat. I wanted something I could set at 55 degrees for my garage and just know that it was working without having to switch it on and off. It's just like the thermostat on your wallset it and forget it.
The first unit I purchased did not work. There is a big sticker on it that says, "if unit does not work, DO NOT take it back to the store, call 1-800-xxx-xxxx" so I called the number. What a waste of time. They asked me when I bought it (an hour ago) and then told me to take it back to the store. That sticker needs to go.
The local store that sold me the unit is really good about exchanges and I tried out the replacement unit in the store before taking it home.
The unit radiates heat nicely. It is good for heating large spaces slowly and consistently. I read that "oil filled" units like this one are really just a gimmick. They aren't more energy efficient than non oil filled varieties but the oil does continue to radiate some heat after the unit has turned off, providing a more consistent heat during "on/off" cycles but does not provide energy savings.
When the unit is first used it does produce some smoke and odorthis is not uncommon for these types of heaters because the manufacturers put a protective lubricant coating on the heating surfaces to protect it during shipping. The fumes from burning this off is potentially toxic to birds. If you own birds you should run it outside or away from birds for the first few hours. This is good advice for any type of brand new device that gets hot.
Unfortunately, if the unit loses power (gets unplugged or the power goes out) it defaults to being OFFmeaning it will not turn on again until it is re-programmed. For this reason the unit cannot be used to heat an unattended location. Many people buy heaters and set them at 40 degrees to keep the pipes in unoccupied areas from freezing. This unit cannot be used in such a location as it can't be "trusted" to remain on.
If I could have found a different heater with 1) a temperature thermostat that 2) doesn't forget it's supposed to work after a power interruption, I would have. I would not buy another one of these units.
Pros: Programmable thermostat
Cons: Questionable reliability, defaults to "off" if power interrupted.

Bought this heater two winters ago to heat a room in our house that isn't used often and doesn't have its own heat. This unit has kept the room at a regular 65 degrees two winters in a row. I appreciate being able to set the temperature and walk away. There's no 'high' 'medium' 'low' and guessing what temp is going to come out, I want 60 or 65 degrees, that's what I get. When guests stay in that room, they can have 71 degrees if they so desire and have been shocked at how quickly it heated up. I also LOVE the digital display.I'm writing this review because I'm about to purchase my second unit for one of our basement rooms that could use a little extra heat. We live in the Pacific Northwest which doesn't get super cold, but the dampness will ruin your house and furnishings if it isn't kept in check!
Don't forget to read the users manual so you know how to properly set the temp, as that's the only thing which isn't clearly evident. If you're reading this, I guarantee you can read how to set the temp in a jiffy!

Based on what I read, I thought this heater had a programmable timer that would allow me to set it to come on every morning at a given time and then shut offin a couple hours. The timer function is an extremely primitive couontdown timer that only allows you to set 1-10 hours before it turns on or 1-10 hours before it shuts off. You cannot have both active and you cannot set a clock timer for on or off. It works well enough, the description was just not complete and was a tad misleading.Honest reviews on Comfort Zone® Digital Electric Oil Filled Radiator Heater CZ9009
It has no problem keeping the 9'x10.5' spare bedroom at ~70° so the yeast will convert all the wort into delicious beer (and CO2).Controls not super intuitive, but easy enough.
