I bought one of these units last year, and it does a decent (not great) job of cooling my 12x12x8 office with attached closet. It is reasonably quiet and efficient. But . . . Whoever designed the exhaust unit is either a sadist, mentally deficient, or both. One has to first connect what is essentially a dryer hose to the unit, then run it to a plastic plate and out the window. Sounds easy, right? Well, the hose slips off one end or the other all too easily, and must conform to -boththe unit and the plate at the same time! There is no easy way to adjust the fit. No easy task, especially in the heat!
If you buy this unit, I strongly suggest you set aside some time on a coooooool day before you attempt hook-up to the window. Ask someone to help. An extra set of hands is a real advantage.

Never having bought an indoor A/C before, I was concerned about the effectiveness of these units as compared to window mounted ones. This unit did do the job and I was very happy with it. It cooled my living room down to 72 degrees F on the hottest days thus far in NY. Installation was simple. The only con, which is probably true for all indoor ACs, is the noise. You won't want to watch TV with this unit sitting right by your side. Drainage was automatic and never an issue.Best Deals on Frigidaire FRA123PT1 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner
Keeps master/sitting/bathroom/closet very cool and does it quickly too. I would guess a total of 400sqft. All in all, the only complaint is the bucket dumping but I had done my research and knew about this before buying. On normal cycles, it takes about a week to fill the bucket so no biggy.Honest reviews on Frigidaire FRA123PT1 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner
They show several models that look exactly alike. And since my unit displays no model # I'll post my review here. For cooling off my bedroom which is about 16'x14' it's pretty good. But some of the downfalls are I need to drape a large towel over the exhaust hose because it radiates too much heat. It sometimes expels way too much water. I run the short hose they give you in a gallon milk jug that sits in a large plastic barrel. The hotter the weather the faster the fill up. A longer water drain hose that can reach my window would have been nice. The other problem is it is too noisy and only quiets down when you slowly raise the temperature so the motor shifts down, but that doesn't last very long and the noise starts back up again. If you bring the temp up to where you think you'll be free of a noise upshift so you can sleep all night eventually the room starts to feel warm and that wakes me up. I've had this thing for about 4 years now and it has not had a breakdown, but if I knew for sure who makes a quieter floor air condition that I don't have to bring the temp up just to shift the noise down I would buy it. I guess I'm just afraid to cause I might get something worse.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Frigidaire FRA123PT1 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner
I am on my second one of these units in less than a month, both purchased from Amazon. The first one rarely achieved an air flow from the vent that was 62 F or below, which is the lowest setting you can put the unit on. Also, it arrived with a bent rod that prevented the removal of one of the three air filters for periodic necessary cleaning.Amazon agred to replace it and pay for all the shipping. The new unit promplty arrived and was plugged in today. This one is even worse. The air coming out of the vent has yet to get down to 62 F, even though it has been running at full blast for six hours.
One other thing: the 640 square feet it is estimated to air condition is a $500.00 joke that is not funny. I am trying to air condition a 400 square foot INSULATED garage, and neither of this two units have come anywhere close to bringing it down to the target temp, despite running 24/7, full blast, at coldest setting.
This has been a really expensive and time-comsuming lesson to learn. I am thinking about sending this one back too, and asking for a 14,000 BTU Soleus instead, although the reviews on that unit are mixed.
